The verdict is this: there is no problem, squeaking is not a reason to change parts if they are in excellent condition (this was said about the entire suspension). They sprinkled the rubber bands with silicone, and there was no squeak on the way back. I climbed on the forums of VAGovodov - a similar problem with golf owners, and dealers say that this is a feature like that. Although, as you look at, the trouble is that nothing breaks. Now, when replacing the wheels with summer ones, for prevention, he himself sprinkled all the rubber bands with silicone, just in case.

Review of Volkswagen Polo Sedan 1.6 (Volkswagen Polo) 2013

Relatives got a polo sedan. At the car market I wrote that I own it, but otherwise it did not give a review to publish. Of course, the model has long been known and widespread, almost everyone said. Well, I will also describe my impressions, suddenly someone will come in handy.

Let's start with the purchase. Initially, we needed the most budgetary normal car with a clearance. In fact, the choice was between solaris and polo. In general, the machines are very comparable in terms of price, performance and size. The choice in favor of polo was made based on the advantages of the laconic design of the polo over the rattling spaceship of Solaris, as well as after reading horror stories on the Internet about the quality of the Solaris. It should be noted that the purely external quality of the cars is absolutely comparable. Everything is very neat.

When buying, they really wanted to order the option with heated windshield, but I would have to wait 3-4 months, and the dealer had a ready-made basic equipment with air conditioning and a head unit. As a result, they sacrificed Wishlist in favor of speed.

The engineers and designers of the largest automobile concerns have always had a difficult task: how to make an affordable, recognizable among competitors, safe and popular car for a wide masses of motorists? We will look for the answer to this question in a comparative review of "affordable sedans" so beloved by the domestic consumer, as the manufacturers themselves position them.

Сhevrolet Aveo is produced already in the third generation. The production of the new model began in 2011. This vehicle is a front-wheel drive compact class B sedan, also known under the nickname Sonic. Most cars received a modern naturally aspirated gasoline unit for 1.4 and 1.6 liters, which can optionally work in conjunction with both automatic and manual transmissions.

Volkswagen polo the model is not new, but it is the sedan that is the novelty that was created specifically for the markets of the CIS countries. The front-wheel drive B-class car is an extended version of the Polo hatchback platform, but it has its own distinctive features. The model was presented to the public in 2010. ICE options are limited to 1.6-liter petrol "aspirated". A choice of automatic or manual transmission is available.

From the front, the car looks very aggressive and unexpectedly fresh for a budget sedan. The main role in this is played by a non-standard for modern cars head optics. We are used to seeing round twin headlight wells on Italian Alfa Romeos or BMWs from the 90s era, but not on a modern mass car. The wide hood has pronounced ribs, which even allows us to speak of a certain proportion of "sport" in the exterior of the front end. The corner grille puts an impressive dot on the overall front view of the Aveo.

The bead continues the given note succinctly. From the back to the front there is an inclined stamping line at the bottom of the doors, rapidly pulling the sides of the car. The rear is of particular interest. Looking at the car from behind is immediately bitter disappointment. There is no trace of sports aggression! And the point here is not at all in the narrowed trunk lid, which looks like short trousers on the body of the car, which do not sit in size on a lanky youth. It's all the fault of the taillights, which would fit a completely different car. They are wide, slightly resembling a rectangle with beveled lines, and are arranged vertically. The back design looks cheap and is a complete fiasco.

Volkswagen Polo Sedan

The front part of the sedan is made strictly, ascetic and very "German". There are significant similarities with the Polo hatchback. Differences are only in the touches: a narrow radiator grille with chrome stripes, a strict front bumper with fog lamp landing niches. Sharp "log cabins" in the lines of the head optics and a large corporate logo make the car recognizable, steadily following the general design concept of VAG. It turned out to be a kind of "intellectual" who was going to take part in a street fight for the first time.

The profile looks a little stretched, but this nuance is well concealed by the "step" of stamping at the bottom of the doors and a strict line above the door handles, which stretches from the edge of the taillights to the very edge of the front lamps. The round fuel filler flap is able to add its own special charm, if you consider the exact side where it is located. The rear part did not receive any design refinements, unlike the Aveo. In the list of potential state employees for personal purchase, Polo confidently takes its place in the top 5 main contenders for purchase. Simple taillights and a slightly tapered, taut and austere trunk lid catch the eye. The ironed lines of the bumper complement the overall picture.

If we consider cars exclusively from the front and from the side, then the Chevrolet Aveo looks much more profitable than the Volkswagen Polo Sedan. It is more modern, bold and youthful. The car will also appeal to middle-aged people. A surprise will await you only when you decide to follow with an admiring glance a cute little car with a bright golden butterfly passing by. Be prepared for at least surprise, and to be frank, for complete disappointment from appearance stern of the car.
Polo Sedan does not prepare any surprises, it is checked! Walk around and look at it at least a hundred times from any angle, but a strict and laconic design idea dominates everywhere, giving the impression of reliability, good quality and ... boredom! A regular sedan from Volkswagen, just a little smaller.
The winner is the Aveo model. One way or another, but the main goal of the Chevrolet designers achieved! The car arouses interest and attracts increased attention, which cannot be said about the Polo Sedan model.

Surprises await the riders and in the car, this time they are pleasant. High-quality plastic, although it is the main finishing material for most elements of the interior space, is assembled efficiently, without cracks, rough cuts or gaps. The main color was black, which was diluted with inserts and finishing of functional elements with chrome.

The most interesting solution in the interior of the sedan was dashboard... It is made in a "motorcycle" style, representing a combination of an analogue tachometer under a small visor, as well as a large digital display that displays large speed numbers and other useful information... For some drivers, this solution may require getting used to, but after 5 minutes driving, everything falls into place. The speedometer is informative, the readings are just fine. Externally, the dashboard is rectangular, the numbers are clear, you should not be afraid of flares. It turned out stylishly, non-standard, innovative. In short, the surprise was a success, it turned out to be very successful.

Seats in the sedan are made of high-quality fabric, pleasant to touch. The profile is implemented as standard for a car of this price category: mediocre lateral support, poorly developed lumbar support. The hardness of the seats is average, nothing unexpected. Seat height adjustment is available, and the range of the backrest and cushion in planes should be enough for a driver of any size. The pillow may seem a little short for tall drivers.

Now a few words about the design of the dashboard and center console. Such things as air vents became an important element on the dashboard. These round "vents" on the sides look very stylish and expensive. Designers have tried nowhere better, the front part of the cabin looks fashionable and modern. In the center are the usual rectangular blowing elements.

The next position in the interior that attracts attention is itself center console... It protrudes above the common plane, received a functional shelf on top and side "ears", which are convenient open niches for storing small things. This beauty is emphasized by the silvery lines in the upper part, which are contours. This is followed by a nice multimedia device with a longitudinal narrow screen of medium size and two stylish controls at the extreme points. Button elements are moved to a separate area a little lower. Looks beautiful, you won’t say anything.

Climate control unit located under the center console overhang and painted gray. At the top is the alarm button, while the bottom is home to three large climate controls. They are round in shape, have chrome rims.

Wheel has a large radius. On the background dashboard seems even bigger than it really is. The rim is comfortable to grip, although it may feel a little thin. The steering wheel is three-spoke, multifunctional. Has the ability to adjust the reach and height.

Central tunnel sloping, separates the driver and passenger area in the front row, but it cannot be called very high. The gear selector lever has an ergonomic teardrop shape. This is followed by the handle parking brake, which is located classically. The center armrest can be called "decorative", as it is narrow and does not promise high comfort on a long trip.

The interior of the Aveo is overflowing with a lot of functional niches, drawers and compartments. The ergonomics of most solutions are excellent, there are no complaints about the functionality of the interior. The dashboard and control elements are illuminated in blue, white and yellow.

In the back row, everything is much simpler, a regular sofa and boring dark plastic. There is a strong contrast in comparison with the anterior areas.

The strict German "classic" has climbed into all corners of the interior space of the compact sedan. The high-quality texture of the plastic material, the excellent fit of the dashboard elements immediately draw attention to themselves. Minimum chrome and maximum black steel main colors salon Polo.

Under the handbrake handle itself, there is a small recess for small items, which seems to be a convenient solution. There is no need to look for a place in the salon for improvised little things.

Wheel has an excellent diameter. The steering wheel itself is lightweight, three-spoke, multifunctional, covered with excellent material. You can observe a light chrome finish, which fits very organically into the overall concept of the interior decoration.

It is worth mentioning separately armrests on door cards... Their width is quite enough to not only lean on, but also completely put the left hand in moments of inactivity. The shape of the armrest itself also contributes directly to this function.

Dashboard classic, without any excess. Tachometer and speedometer scales, and in between trip computer... This element has a small diagonal, but given its convenient location, information reading occurs without any problems. The main colors for highlighting the elements are white and red.

The assessment of the interior should be given with one significant amendment. Everything will depend on the age of the appraiser, his aspirations and personal preferences. Adherents of the classics will be quite enough functional and modest design in the Volkswagen Polo. There is nothing superfluous, everything is in its rightful and painfully familiar places.
For those who strive for novelty and modernism, the Aveo salon will definitely look good. It has style, personality and charm that blends wonderfully with functionality and ergonomics. The designers of Chevrolet surprised with their bold decisions once again, and everything in the interior looks exclusively from the positive side. The Chevrolet Aveo model captivates with its modern look and style, becoming the winner at this stage of comparing the two sedans.

Driving performance

Traction at the bottom is common for a city sedan, the engine comes to life only in the middle rev range. This character entails slightly increased fuel consumption when trying to set and maintain a vigorous pace. Noise isolation is average, the engine is clearly audible in the cabin with an increase in revs, and the wheel arches remind of a change in the quality of the asphalt pavement at speed.

The chassis settings allow you to comfortably navigate over small bumps and minor pits. The suspension is afraid of larger potholes, willingly breaking through with a dull booming blow.

The steering wheel is light and crisp, with a well-defined zero position. On a straight line, the car willingly adheres to a given trajectory. It should be borne in mind that the car is characterized by a small windage. Front and rear axle drifts can start much earlier than many realize. So the thresholds of permitted speeds should not be crossed during active maneuvering.

Brakes and electronic systems form a tandem typical of a low-ambitious representative. There are disc mechanisms at the front, and drums at the rear.

The driving performance of the Volkswagen Polo allows it to outstrip the Chevrolet Aveo at this stage of comparison. The German sedan turned out to be better balanced and more honest in handling. Suspension settings and sound insulation played an important role in this assessment. These qualities allowed the Polo to become a more profitable car in comparison with the Chevrolet Aveo, which, although insignificantly, still lagged behind its competitor in terms of estimated characteristics and general impressions from the ride.

Spaciousness

Chevrolet Aveo (Sonic) shows good roominess in its class. The front is roomy enough, especially in height. The stock in width is not completely absent, but there is a slight stiffness inherent in the class of the car.

The rear row of seats makes a similar impression, but three of them on the back sofa can still fit only with controversial and relative comfort. The advantage is the same headroom. But the margin for the legs is minimal, and to be honest, it is practically nonexistent.

The trunk has good roominess indicators, which are constrained by a narrow loading opening. This feature will not allow you to place an oversized load.

Volkswagen Polo sedan looks spacious in width. It really is. There is plenty of room in the shoulders in the front row, but headroom may not be enough.

A similar picture is observed in the back row. With a hint of comfort, three riders can be accommodated on the back couch. It is worth mentioning that the wheelbase provides a perfectly acceptable headroom in the area of ​​rear passengers' legroom. Only the free space above the head remains a little controversial.

The trunk is not the largest in the class, but the wide enough loading opening slightly compensates for this shortcoming. The second plus can be considered the ability to unfold the seat back in the back row with a small shelf.

At this stage of comparison, the car from Volkswagen is in the lead, its interior roominess turned out to be slightly better in comparison with the competitor. Polo offers more free legroom for rear passengers, more space in width, the best trunk compared to Aveo in terms of ergonomics and ease of loading. The only plus for the Chevrolet can be considered the height in the cabin and the larger displacement of the trunk, but this does not allow it to become the winner in the overall standings in terms of spaciousness.

Profitability

A slight lead on fuel efficiency gains Volkswagen car Polo, although this cannot be called an unambiguous victory. Сhevrolet Aveo got slightly better dynamic and torque characteristics in comparison with the competitor.

Whether driving smoothly at city speeds or accelerating smoothly in the Polo, the engine sounds a little louder. And it is worth pushing the gas pedal - both wake up, but in different ways. The tone of the Volkswagen is generally lower, and in some modes it emits a rumbling, somewhat reminiscent of sounds diesel internal combustion engine... (We add that the VW engine starts with vibration, and the DJ's one is quieter and calmer.) The Aveo's moderate humming along the spectrum is closer to the classic gasoline unit. However, with good overclocking, it already catches up with its rival in volume, or even surpasses it. In general, neither one nor the other motor is quiet, only the Volkswagen one also flatter itself, with individual bass notes hinting at sporting ambitions. In vain.

Maybe gray is not the most advantageous color for Aveo, but the car looks catchy and smart in real life. Fighter.

“Follows the gas pedal exactly” is not about our rivals. Both differ in delayed reactions. On the Polo, this is mainly caused by the accelerator setting. Even with a simple release of the brake, and even more so with the initial pressing of the gas pedal, the car rushes forward relatively briskly. In a tight parking lot, you have to be careful here. Further, as the pedal progresses, you expect more impressive acceleration from the car, but it is the most calm. And only later there is a revival. Such damping in the responses is felt even with sharp accelerations on the move. It does not interfere with a quiet ride. In the Chevrolet Aveo, the dependence of the crankshaft spin on the pedal movement is more linear, but the automatic transmission is slower to understand. The result is about the same: when planning a sharp overtaking, both here and there it is worth pressing the accelerator in advance.

The look of the Polo sedan will be called faceless. Such calm taillights could have appeared fifteen years ago and will look normal in fifteen years. Timeless design. But we, going around the car around, came to the conclusion that it is harmonious. All the details go well with each other here. Elegance is "a style characterized by noble simplicity, calmness, relaxation, severity and smoothness." This is according to the dictionary. Exactly.

Pay attention to low hanging supports rear springs Polo. In case of a forced arrival on the curb diagonally, this piece of iron can easily hook the edge of the stone. The same goes for the descent. The support itself is strong, but there is little pleasant in such a scratch. On the road, even with moderate potholes, these elements do not interfere.

For comparison: in the rear third of the Aveo's bottom, there are no such clearly protruding parts, there is a high cross-country ability. At the same time, at the front of the Chevrolet's body, both the belly and the bumper hang lower than that of the Polo. Therefore, when driving through obstacles or just on a broken country road behind driving Aveo you should be much more careful just about the front end. It is easy to catch something here with an aerodynamic "skirt" or underbody protection.

I sit behind the wheel of a dark gray car and ask: "Where is your superiority in power?" Plus 10 "horses" - in this weight category - this is a difference, which theoretically should manifest itself somewhere at the top. Indeed, on the free streets, Chevrolet is trying to break away, spinning the internal combustion engine harder. I change into a silver sedan and understand that Volkswagen is delivering a painful prick in response: its “automatic” not only shifts gears more quickly than the rival's box, but, in addition, is more imperceptible. And up and down the Chevrolet often pops up small jerks. From the "German" small shocks in the transmission can also be achieved if you press the gas heartily and force the automatic transmission to drop more steps. In most situations, the change in planetary gears on the Polo can be seen only by the vibrations of the tachometer needle and by the gear indicator. By the way, on Polo he always shows her number: either in manual mode or in “automatic mode”. Comfortable.

Chevrolet's digital speedometer is unusual. The brain needs some extra fraction of a second to comprehend a number. Take a quick glance at the classic Polo hand. But we must admit: the creators of Aveo pulled the maximum out of the concept of such a display. The numbers are large, the brightness is sufficient, the color is pleasant. When the dimensions or headlights are turned on, the brightness of the glow, however, decreases, but the perception of numbers still remains good. The speed, as experience has shown, can be determined even in the most critical case - when the low (at sunset) sun shines from behind or at an angle right into the dashboard. In addition, a slight damping has been introduced into the Aveo speedometer readings, so that with small fluctuations in the speed, annoying flickering of numbers does not occur.

At Volkswagen, the brightness of the instrument illumination is not adjustable. This is an example of savings for the sake of the "Budget Car" tag. But the glow of numbers and arrows is quite optimal for most situations. You only want to reduce it in complete darkness. And on the illuminated night streets - just right.

Maybe Polo is able to completely pierce the attacker through the sport mode? I move the handle to position S. Anger in attacks, of course, appears due to the rearrangement of the shift bar up the revs. But since the nature of the response of the motor to the accelerator remains a little inhibited, this mode does not really add to the sport. "Automatic" in sedan Aveo there is no sport mode at all, but our boxer boldly hits backhand, including a banal kickdown. The blow does not reach the target: for acceleration in the conditionally urban range of 40–90 km / h, Volkswagen is still preferable even in the normal D mode. The greatest harmony of engines and automatic transmissions for both four-doors, in theory, should be achieved in manual mode. But I really don't want to resort to it.

Both cars are far from sports cars by their nature, family sedans are. However, in urban conditions they are quite capable of competing with passenger cars of their class and similar (105-115 hp) power. Only for this you need not hesitate to turn the engines, which immediately affects fuel consumption. For the latter, as it turned out later, lingering traffic jams are even more destructive.

Completing the topic of gearboxes and active combat, it is worth noting only an important difference in ergonomics. In the Polo, manual shifts are made with short forward (+) and backward (-) movements of the lever. The creators of Aveo have learned: a swinging two-armed button on the side of the knob of the "automatic" handle is responsible for changing gears manually. As a result, even with a normal set of speed, the hand must be kept constantly on the handle. After removing your palm on the steering wheel and returning it back a little later, you need to spend another second to feel the key and put your thumb on it. Interaction with Volkswagen is more intuitive and therefore faster.

Switch decoration automatic box The Polo's Tiptronic (left) looks expensive, and the box itself is essentially that. The handle on the Chevrolet Aveo is a design refinement, but it loses in convenience. However, for Aveo, this box is a big progress. After all, we have before us the first six-speed sports (with manual mode) "automatic" on compacts with a Chevrolet nameplate. This unit differs from its direct predecessors from the line of automatic transmissions for GM cars in reduced dimensions and weight.

You need to adjust to the brakes on both four-doors. Again in different ways. The first hundreds of meters I drive in a Volkswagen and I cannot understand how hard I need to press on the pedal. There is a pedestrian crossing ahead, you need to slow down. With a slight pedal movement, nothing seems to be happening at all. Then, as the foot moves, the effort begins to grow, and the deceleration clearly increases. And further away the brakes, as they say, grab and even sharper than we would like. Having got used to it, however, you can easily choose the optimum.

Chevrolet Aveo demonstrates that he studied textbooks before the fight. The relationship between the rate of deceleration and pedal movement is more straightforward here. But why am I uncomfortable anyway? The fact is that the pedal stroke of the "American" is a little more, and the effort on it is relatively small, and in addition, it almost does not grow in almost three-quarters of the stroke. There is a feeling of "cotton wool" under the foot. It's a shame: Aveo is able to slow down intensively, but it does not give the driver a sense of confidence, instinctively he wants to press the pedal harder. Only to the very floor does it grow heavier.

Our duelists' outside mirrors suffer from art form. Aveo (left) to a greater extent. It is very much beveled at the top. If for a close left mirror this is uncritical, then in the same right one would like to see more of the situation. In Polo, the exterior mirrors are better in shape. If only they were slightly larger ... In addition, the "German" has not enough salon mirror. This piece of glass should be added at least a centimeter. Disadvantages of one, disadvantages of the other: on this tiny point of the program - a draw.

In a fight, opponents have to maneuver a lot. The Aveo has hydraulic power steering, the Polo has electric power steering. This circumstance, however, does not create any crushing difference in everyday driving. When changing lanes and cornering, both sedans feel quite docile. Still, the "German" steers more respectfully, its steering wheel is somewhat more informative, but the Aveo sedan keeps a slightly greater distance between itself and the driver. This is strange, because the steering wheel is relatively short and, in addition, heavy. And in general, people often dislike electric amplifiers and extol hydro. And it can be seen that the matter is in the settings.

The lunges and parries in the first round are over. The rivals take a break, and the seconds recall that cars with an initial price of up to five hundred are obviously bought not for racing on the streets, but rather for the home, for the family. What family values ​​do we know? Silence in the cabin and smooth running, for example. And also - the space inside, the convenience of transforming the cabin. Finally, everyone wants to get more car for less. Here the results of our rivals are more or less close, but the devil is in the details.

Interchange after interchange, intersection after intersection. So it gradually became clear what the Chevrolet was missing. The steering gear of Volkswagen noticeably changes the degree of assistance depending on the speed. For Aveo, I would like to have a lighter steering wheel at low and medium speeds. Its severity for a car with not the highest sports skills is unnecessary.

Let's go back to the sounds for a while. A Polo driver on a small acceleration is forced to listen to a distinct solution from the internal combustion engine, without even pressing the gas pedal beyond the middle of the stroke. His ward is recouped by the clatter of hooves: the rumble of the tires of the Chevrolet is clearly higher than that of the Volkswagen. For it to calm down, you need a completely smooth asphalt, just yesterday laid. Not that the sound transmission of the wheel arches was very different between the two models. We believe that regular tires play the main role in this behavior of cars. The car with the yellow cross has Hankook Optimo tires, the sedan with the VW badge is Kama Euro.

Taking into account the overall level of soundproofing of the cabin, the acoustic as well as vibration stages of the duel wins the Polo, but not with one goal. For example, the heater fan rustles more clearly (even at first speed). This is clearly noticeable if you do not turn on the music. Therefore, Volkswagen cannot deliver a decisive blow here either.

And we also admit: many of the features of internal noise and smoothness are subjective, and we did not use sound level meters and accelerometers. In addition, from time to time, elusive crickets surfaced in both cars - some weak rattling in the bowels of the front panels (in the air ducts, apparently), and in the Polo - also in the area of ​​the right sun visor. These sounds disappeared themselves as mysteriously as they appeared.

Ride smoothness is partly dependent on tires. Both duelists can be considered comfortable in this regard. In more or less degree. Their pendants do not suffer from excessive gripping or swaying too much in the waves. But here, too, there are tangible differences. Due to the higher profile, regular Aveo tires swallow road trifles a little better. But with serious blows from pits or when driving through rough seams on bridges, the Chevrolet is more shaken by the whole body than the Volkswagen Polo. The suspension of the latter transmits short and rounded pokes from the road to the seats, flavored, however, with a distinct sound accompaniment. Therefore, the Polo sedan makes the impression of being better prepared for a broken roadway. But it’s surprising that we haven’t decided which setting is formally tougher and whose setting is softer. In general, they are similar, only the "German" has a higher energy capacity. On uneven pavement and at speed, its suspension makes it feel more confident.

It is likely that by choosing better tires, the owner of the Aveo will be able to somewhat change the character of his car for the better.

The next round is static - we meticulously examine the salons. Where is the best driver's seat? There is no clear answer. A very subjective criterion. For the thoughts of potential buyers, let's just say that in a Chevrolet, the pillow is softer than a Volkswagen one. Even in the Aveo, the lateral support is slightly more prominent, especially on the back of the seat. But the length of the pillow may not be enough for tall comrades, which will undoubtedly affect on a long journey. This exchange of cautious lunges ends with a prick from Polo: this model has driver's seat height adjustment in all versions, even in the basic one, but in Aveo, such a useful setting appears only in the older configuration of the three.

What's behind? The two outermost passengers in both sedans are comfortable if their height is not much higher than average (otherwise, the rivals show interesting differences, we will say about them below). The average passenger is equally uncomfortable here and there. The central tunnel interferes with his legs. Yes, only in Polo it is slightly higher. Volkswagen also loses in terms of air supply over the heads of the rear occupants. Affected by the difference in body height (Aveo at the withers is 5 cm higher). In addition, in Chevrolet rear glass goes far to the roof. It is it that looms above the backs of the rear riders. This solution added a couple of centimeters of space. Although without them, Aveo would have won on this point.

There is enough room for four adults in the Aveo sedan, albeit without a headroom. Frankly, many B-class cars are closer. In addition, tall people behind here can sit down without taking off what is called their hats. It's also nice that the ceiling handles in Chevrolet have a microlift. Alas, against the background of such luxury, one can see the only place for luggage in the rear of the cabin in a silent reproach - a pocket in the back of the front right seat. There are no pockets in the back doors. And also - the raised window sill line aggravates the feeling of being tight in width. We will talk about it separately.

The Polo salon wins in a number of important ways. For example, it is easy to put up with the missing microlift of the ceiling handles, but the pockets in the rear doors of Volkswagen, and in addition to the bottle caps, will be much more valuable on a long journey. And that's not it.

Another example of the difference between rivals: the door stop at the Polo (left), in addition to the extreme position, has two intermediate ones. Aveo has only one intermediate fixed position. In a cramped parking lot, the difference can be appreciated. And what is even more interesting - all four electric windows in Polo have an "Auto" mode (full lowering and full lifting with one click), while Aveo has none of the four.

The headroom in Aveo is like a blow to the head of an opponent. The German sedan wakes up and responds with a couple of quick lunges. Yes, there is good space for the legs of the rear passengers in the Chevrolet's cabin, but the Polo has much more distance to the front seats, which are adjusted approximately identically! Where one tall man 185-187 cm tall, sitting down behind him in the Aveo, already touches the front back with his knees, in Polo he will have a noticeable gap about the width of a fist. Or even with a fist in a boxing glove. It's not just about the good placement or shape of the seats: with a slightly shorter overall length, the Polo surpasses its counterpart in wheelbase. A second painful injection immediately follows. Although the outer width of the body is wider on the Chevrolet, in the shoulders of the rear passengers and between the armrests rear doors the distance for some reason is greater at Volkswagen. This difference accumulates by 3–8 cm, depending on the measurement locations.

And behind them is a lattice in the form of honeycombs. Stylish.

The plastic steering wheel of the Aveo is pleasant to the eye and to the touch (our Polo, by the way, has a leather one, but this is an expensive equipment), its small details are well worked out. The plastic on the front panel of the Chevy, though tough, is interesting in terms of the selection of texture and color combination. Pictures do not convey this feeling of texture.

Volkswagen Polo is a mixture of simplistic solutions with unusual features. He, for example, cannot open the hood without opening the driver's door. Some may find this inconvenient, but, in my opinion, this is a tribute to safety. The handle of the hood lock at the "German" is made in such a way that it rests against the end of the door and cannot turn. And the fuel filler flap? For both sedans, it is unlocked by opening the central locking system. But for Aveo, the lid can then move freely to the side, and for Polo, you need to slightly press on it so that it snaps off. These are trifles, of course, but the difference in the volume of gas tanks cannot be called a trifle. The Polo's advantage of nine liters is an extra hundred kilometers on the highway.

A couple more strikes of the Chevrolet in the direction of the opponent. The Aveo radio tape recorder in this configuration is equipped with a Bluetooth interface (the more expensive Polo does not have it). And another minivan will envy the abundance of storage compartments in the front of the Aveo cockpit: three open boxes on the front console, a recess in the upper part of the panel, pockets in the doors, a case over the driver's head, and even two glove compartments. The top has a USB connector. Moreover, by connecting a phone, player or camera to it (say, for charging), the device can either be left in the glove compartment or picked up by slamming the lid. After all, it has a neat slot for wiring (in the picture it is visible on the left). What a striking difference from the dwelling of the rear passengers, which looks gloomy and empty in Aveo.

The Polo's interior is visually much simpler than that of the Aveo, one might say, it is more classic. The plastic is tough, but it looks nice. There is only one glove compartment in the Polo. On the inside of its lid there is a case and a coin box, and in the bottom of the glove compartment, under a snap-on door, there is a secret "basement" for service book... What else can the salons of our heroes compete with? Draw on cup holders - 3: 3. True, the Aveo's two front ones are equipped with spring-loaded teeth. But on hooks for clothes, Polo wins with a score of 4: 2.

The Aveo starts a new round by opening the boot lid. It has 502 liters of volume versus 460 liters of the Polo. A strong argument that a family man will appreciate. However, Volkswagen also finds here how to respond to a dangerous attack. It has a wider trunk entrance. Eight centimeters, when viewed in the middle rear lights... In addition, Volkswagen has a pair of closing handles in the lid upholstery (Chevrolet does without them at all). And the hold at Polo slams shut with a dull sound, and at Aveo it rattles with metal. But the lid upholstery of the Chevrolet is made of a soft material, similar to felt, while the Polo has hard plastic screwed on, and even then it does not completely cover the lid.

The trunk of the Chevrolet Aveo is more spacious than that of the Volkswagen. The shape of the cargo compartments is similar, the loading height is almost the same, and the lid hinges interfere in about the same degree.

You can open the trunk of the Polo either with a key or with a button on the driver's door. Aveo has a button on the lid itself. Inside is a slightly smaller but neatly designed space.

An interesting situation is developing with the transformation of the rear seats. Both rivals have split backs. And Chevrolet here wins over with the simplicity and lightning speed of their folding. I pulled the lock lever - the back fell forward. The pillow on the Aveo is one-piece and does not transform. In extreme cases, it can only be removed and left in the garage. With Polo, there is much more fuss, and it seems that here he will never fight off an attacker in life.

Each of the unequal halves of the Polo seat cushion must first be folded forward. Moreover, in two movements - first we raise the front edge, then pull the back. Then you need to pull out the relatively tight fungi of the latches and fold the backs, but not completely. The next step is to remove the headrests one by one (you cannot simply drown them down, so it will not work to lay the backs behind the pillow). The backrests can now be completely lowered. Uf. And how do we see the result? Chevrolet has not only a larger trunk, but also a slightly wider and higher window between the trunk and the passenger compartment. This is an uppercut. At the same time, the Aveo fighter recklessly leaves the flank open: the ease of placing the cargo is noticeably affected by that very uncomplicated pillow. Because of it, on the floor of the cargo compartment, the backs in the Aveo form a step as high as 13 cm. The Polo also has a step, but noticeably lower - about 8 cm. Touchet.

Polo's austere appearance is in harmony with its essence. Everything is thought out and meticulously verified.

There are no fanciful shapes and lines in Polo. But the interior pleases in German with careful execution in detail and in general it looks expensive when compared with other state employees.

The reverse transformation is similarly troublesome for Polo and light-hearted for Aveo. In a Chevrolet, the backrests simply snap into place when pressed on them, and in a German car, after installing the backs in place, the retaining fungi must be drowned down. So, in the ease of handling the seats, the American-Korean device outperforms the brainchild of a company from Wolfsburg. But again Volkswagen Polo is not going to give up, because the practicality round is not over. Under the boot floor of the Chevrolet lies a narrow stroller so unloved by many Russians. But the "German" is equipped with a normal spare wheel, albeit a 14-inch with a higher profile (another example of saving on matches), although the main wheels and tires in this configuration are 15 inches.

We will mention an insignificant, but significant difference associated with a spare tire niche. Both Chevrolet and Volkswagen in it, in addition to a wheel, a jack and a cylinder wrench, remain empty space for all sorts of things, such as a cable and an electric pump. But in Aveo, this place is bare metal, and Polo has prudently inserted an organizer made of dense foam. It seems that we more often blamed Polo for saving on penny details? We take our words back.

In the meantime, the counting is going on, let's remember how the Russians rated the German mix from budget nodes and thoughtful little things. According to the results of the first half of 2012, the Polo model took the eighth line in the list of the most demanded cars. And of the almost 36 thousand cars sold, 94% are sedans. 77% growth compared to last year, against the backdrop of a 12% overall increase in our automotive market- a speaking indicator. Well, the Chevrolet Aveo sedan is only going to interfere with the statistics of the leaders, because its sales began in February of this year, and potentially the most popular basic modification will appear at dealerships in October.

In our competition, more attention of the judges was paid to Chevrolet as the Russian debutant of this year. The younger Volkswagen mainly acted as a catch-up. But it gradually became clear that the young and cocky Aveo, which has a number of strengths, there is a lot to learn from the creation of German engineers.

By the way, about the bases. The four-door Polo, produced since June 11, 2012, now has ABS by default in the initial version of Trendline, and now it is possible to order an air conditioner as an option. Previously, neither one nor the other in the most affordable Polo sedan could not be. There is such a car, supplemented by a radio tape recorder, almost as rounded as the starting four-door Aveo (LS grade) with added air conditioning (this car has "music" by default). But then, in the two older trim levels, the gaps grow. Volkswagen is becoming more expensive than its competitor. This is partly justified by the equipment, but thoughts gradually creep in, why not buy something larger for that kind of money?

The test Polo was much more expensive than the test Aveo: the "German" has climate control instead of an air conditioner, there is electric heating windshield, 65% tinted rear windows, anti-theft bolts ... But all this did not affect the outcome of the meeting.

The spectators, we look, reached for the exit. It remains to declare the result. Volkswagen Polo won. He won not with one blow, but on points. He made many, many small holes in the enemy. And if all of its numerous "a little", "a little" or "much better" are put together, then you understand: despite all the budget, Volkswagen's proprietary slogan - Das Auto - is quite suitable for the Polo sedan. The four-door Aveo is an attractive option for its price. Bright exterior, interesting interior, especially if we talk about its front half, a large hold. But Aveo loses in comfort, inferior in driving properties. The main difference between the duelists lies not so much in the nominal characteristics, but in the aftertaste. The new Aveo, playing, as before, in the budget league, no longer gives the impression of a frankly cheap car. Volkswagen Polo, on the other hand, gives the impression of being expensive.

The verdict is this: there is no problem, squeaking is not a reason to change parts if they are in excellent condition (this was said about the entire suspension). They sprinkled the rubber bands with silicone, and there was no squeak on the way back. I climbed on the forums of VAGovodov - a similar problem with golf owners, and dealers say that this is a feature like that. Although, as you look at, the trouble is that nothing breaks. Now, when replacing the wheels with summer ones, for prevention, he himself sprinkled all the rubber bands with silicone, just in case.

Relatives got a polo sedan. At the car market I wrote that I own it, but otherwise it did not give a review to publish. Of course, the model has long been known and widespread, almost everyone said. Well, I will also describe my impressions, suddenly someone will come in handy.

Let's start with the purchase. Initially, we needed the most budgetary normal car with a clearance. In fact, the choice was between solaris and polo. In general, the machines are very comparable in terms of price, performance and size. The choice in favor of polo was made based on the advantages of the laconic design of the polo over the rattling spaceship of Solaris, as well as after reading horror stories on the Internet about the quality of the Solaris. It should be noted that the purely external quality of the cars is absolutely comparable. Everything is very neat.

When buying, they really wanted to order the option with heated windshield, but I would have to wait 3-4 months, and the dealer had a ready-made basic equipment with air conditioning and a head unit. As a result, they sacrificed Wishlist in favor of speed.

What about the budget? All three cars do not spoil the look of the city - and even decorate the courtyard on its outskirts. More interesting than others, perhaps, Aveo - and not only because a beginner. Four separate round headlights are boldly and so close to the heart of an experienced Russian motorist who stood in long lines, first for a VAZ "three-ruble note", then for a "six" ... dirt and crammed insects?

As for the interior of the Aveo, we have two news. Let's start with the good one: fresh youthful design coexists with good ergonomics. And how intriguingly the turquoise glow spreads through the "veins" of the audio system, as soon as you insert the key into the ignition switch! And although our experts scolded the "motorcycle" dashboard, I personally liked it, and I got used to it instantly. It's great that, as in the Polo, the steering wheel can be adjusted not only in height, but also in reach, and the side bolsters on the back of the seat hug you and not at all on a budget. Add the adjustment of the lumbar support and the "lift" of the chair - and here's the ideal for you. The symmetrical front panel extends far into the bonnet, giving you the feeling that you are in a class above the car. And also - a lot of compartments for small items: in addition to the shelves at the center console and a capacious "basement", there are two glove boxes. The one at the top is smaller, but it has a USB connector. Nice, but far away: if you connect a smartphone to the audio system, the cord will stretch through half of the salon.

And here's the bad news: the feeling of a budget car still does not leave. Doors bang loudly, the gaps between the panels are uneven, and the smell of hard plastic barely heated by the timid March sun makes you wrinkle.

Another thing is Volkswagen Polo ... Oh, and the doors rumble even more, and hard materials, to put it mildly, are far from sophisticated. Solid design? Against the backdrop of Solaris' Asian ornateness, yes, Volkswagen is a reserved aristocrat, but the comparison with the Rio is no longer in favor of the Polo. The low and hard seat of the Kia is no worse than the Volkswagen one - it's a pity, not everyone will find a comfortable fit: the steering wheel reach does not change.

Chevrolet does not feel very well on bumpy roads, requiring steering and slowing down because of the danger of a breakdown. On the smooth asphalt, the Aveo doesn’t give you any happiness from driving, but at least it doesn’t cause negative emotions. The low effort on the steering wheel is quite informative, and the sensitivity is calibrated and completely great. It's a pity, early spring good roads we have little left - the snow seems to be melting together with the asphalt now.


Fashionable appearance is the only thing that sets the Chevrolet Aveo apart from the mass of budget sedans: the driving properties are mediocre. Let's see what the reliability turns out to be

In the city, there is enough such dynamics - you can even get under way from the second gear, and in the fourth gear it is tolerable to accelerate from 40 km / h. It is also pleasant because there is little joy in changing gears - the lever moves too sweepingly. And from a speed of 100 km / h, the reverse side of the "short" transmission declares itself: the noise of the engine, spinned up in fifth gear up to 3000 rpm, dominates in the cabin. The noise from the tires also comes out at an increased volume. Moreover, we drove the Aveo both on winter studless tires Bridgestone Blizzak WS60 and on regular summer tires Hankook Optimo K415: the timbre is different, and the volume is the same.

As a result, it seems that we can congratulate the designers of Chevrolet on their victory over the engineers: there is a bright appearance, but there is no driving character. It is possible that the tiny ground clearance is another element of this victory.

And the Rio was surprisingly quiet. Even at 120 km / h, you can communicate with fellow travelers without raising your voice. While you want to leave Polo already at 90 km / h - it is even noisier than Aveo! The tires are buzzing, the wind is howling, and the engine seems to have been installed right in the cabin, somewhere behind the lid of the glove box. Therefore, let's not regret the lack of a USB connector on the Polo: it is still difficult to listen to music at high speed.

In terms of layout and ease of control of blocks of audio and climate systems, all cars are similar. The functions are easy to use. Perhaps Kia has better multimedia connectors located at the base of the center console. The Aveo has a USB slot tucked away in the top glove compartment, while the Polo has no audio inputs at all.

But in Russia, Aveo will receive only four Euro NCAP stars: the stabilization system for the Russian market is not offered even for an extra charge.

How much?

The Volkswagen Polo sedan (1.6 l, 105 hp) can be bought for 429,100 rubles, and the basic configuration of the Trendline already has two airbags, power windows, a fully folding rear seat, a trip computer, central locking and adjustable steering wheel height and reach. The Comfortline package looks much more attractive for 514,900 rubles - with air conditioning, ABS, electric and heated mirrors, heated front seats, a separate rear seat and metallic paint, and our sedan for 527,520 rubles also had a CD-receiver and leather steering wheel braid. A six-speed "automatic" for Polo will cost 45,900 rubles. The times of huge queues for the Kaluga sedan are over - the cars are on free sale and in the nearest deliveries, but if there is no suitable one among them, you will have to place an order and wait from three to five months.

Warranty - two years without mileage limitation.

Chevrolet Aveo (1.6 l, 115 hp) formally costs from 444 thousand rubles, but cars in the basic configuration LS with two airbags, ABS, front power windows, CD player, central locking and a rigidly fixed rear seat will go to dealers only in the fall. In the meantime, you can buy a sedan in the LT version for 487 thousand rubles - it has an air conditioner, rear head restraints, a Bluetooth transmitter and a folding backrest rear seat... Our Aveo with full power accessories, heated front seats, steering wheel adjustment and metallic paint costs 515 thousand rubles - 12,500 rubles cheaper than the Polo sedan that participated in the test, but Chevrolet does not have an on-board computer or seat height adjustment. But the surcharge for a six-speed "automatic" is only 33 thousand rubles. There is not much in the free sale of cars, but the ordered sedan will have to wait no more than a month.

The warranty is three years or 100,000 km, but the mileage is not limited for the first two years.

The Kia Rio sedan in the initial Comfort configuration is equipped with a 1.4 engine (107 hp) and costs 469,900 rubles, but already in the "base" there are two airbags, ABS, air conditioning, front power windows, on-board computer, a split rear seat back and height adjustment of the driver's seat, although the steering wheel in all trim levels is adjustable only in height. The Luxe version with a 1.6 engine (123 hp) has full power accessories, a CD receiver, heated front seats and costs 529,900 rubles - almost like a Polo sedan with similar equipment. And in our hands was Rio performed by Prestige for 569,900 rubles - with six airbags, climate control and light-alloy wheels. For a four-speed "automatic" for Rio you need to pay 40 thousand rubles.
