Problems with the pedal assembly on these cars were identified during internal checks. At the same time, cars produced for the period from 2011 to 2016 were checked.

According to preliminary information, manufacturers will recall about 390 thousand Volkswagen Touareg and 410 thousand cars Porsche cayenne... Employees of the companies report that most of the cars subject to recall were sold on the German market.

Recall that these cars are built on the same platform - that is, in fact, they are the same cars, covered with different bodies. But nevertheless, it will hardly be possible to call the "traveler" Volkswagen Tuareg and "dude" Porsche Cayenne twin brothers.

For example, Volkswagen is much more spacious than the sporty Porsche, which, in turn, is distinguished by presentability and indescribable luxury.

With all this, manufacturers are in a hurry to assure that the elimination of the identified problems will take no more than half an hour for each car.

The main differences between Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne

As you know, the Volkswagen Touareg is considered the most productive, with an engine power of 360 hp, while the engine power of the "weakest" Porsche Cayenne is 300 Horse power... As for the suspension, it is much softer in the family, albeit rather expensive, "German" Tuareg, although its stiffness adjustment systems are installed on both compared cars.

It is worth noting that the "mid-size" Volkswagen Tuareg is not the only car that has been recalled. German manufacturer... Over the past period, the revocation procedure has undergone and Volkswagen passat- there were identified malfunctions in the electrical circuit system.

By the way, representatives of the German automotive company drew attention to the fact that the process of recalling cars is not associated with the recent scandal that erupted around the installed diesel power units, the test results of which, according to some reports, were faked by the company's employees.

If the Touareg has always been a car for serious and solid people, then the Cayenne was chosen by those with petrol in their blood.

The new generation machines are still built on the same platform. And this is noticeable: the body pillars, sidewalls and curvatures of the door panels are identical up to rear rack which is more dynamic in the Cayenne.

True, the visual lightness of the stern plays a cruel joke with the car: it seems that in front of you is not a formidable Cayenne, but a compact crossover.

The new Touareg looks more solid than the Cayenne, but appears slimmer than its predecessor, although dimensions cars, as usual, have become larger.

The only pity is that it is firmly associated with ... the latest generation Golf hatchback. Such a resemblance hardly suits a solid car.

However, inside the Touareg is no less solid than before: a powerful tunnel, double armrests, solid chrome trim ...

You can't find fault with the strict design, but there's nothing to catch your eye. But the sensations are in complete order. Here it is conveniently Volkswagen, and everything is in its usual places. And the chairs are profiled just fine.

The interior of the Cayenne with its many rows of buttons is captivating - nothing to do with the austere interior of Volkswagen!

The bucket seats tightly cover the body, a row of dashboard dials and vents of the vents make the heart beat faster, a nice profiled "steering wheel" itself asks for hands ...

The Touareg is quite capable of accommodating three people - the seat profile is not so pronounced here.

Individual climate control for rear passengers is offered for both cars, but for the Porsche owner it will cost one and a half times more.

Driving force

Diesel V6 and 8-speed automatic t in the Touareg y live well - the engine pulls perfectly in almost the entire rev range, spinning up quickly and gently, and the box tries to keep it in good shape. True, downshifts do not occur instantly, so it makes sense to switch the automatic transmission to sport mode before accelerating on the highway.

Porsche fans diesel unit is still considered exotic. But in vain! The Volkswagen engine for the Cayenne was adapted by reconfiguring the intake and exhaust systems. And although the diesel Porsche exchanges a “hundred” in the same 7.8 seconds as the Touareg, the sensations from acceleration are sharper in it: the exhaust sound is brighter, the response to the gas pedal is sharper. Feels like school! Although, in all honesty, you understand that you still expect something more from Porsche.

The Cayenne, on the other hand, seems more perky when cornering. Our car did not have the proprietary PDCC roll suppression system, but even without it, Porsche writes arcs without swaying and delighting the driver with a good sense of the car.

A simple spring suspension (for a pneumatic one you will have to pay 168,000 rubles) while still remaining comfortable, famously smoothing out irregularities of various calibers.

We got the Touareg with air suspension (94,000 rubles). But it does not make the car softer - in the comfortable mode VW is quite comparable with the spring Cayenne, and in the sport mode it becomes only a little more collected.

But to have fun in corners does not pull even in it - a reliable steering in general does not provide the necessary sensitivity, and the rolls are too large ...

Another thing is that the air-suspended Touareg can easily change the ground clearance by squatting at high speed or standing on tiptoe to overcome the rough terrain.

In addition to the air suspension, the Touareg has retained its other off-road arsenal. True, crawler gear and differential locks are now offered for a surcharge, and base car comes with a simplified transmission and a conventional "self-blocking" type Torsen in the center differential.

But the Cayenne, which has none of this even for a surcharge, has essentially turned into an ordinary crossover. From the previous arsenal, only the assistant descending from the mountain and the off-road mode of on-board electronics, which is activated by a key on the tunnel, remained. For a surcharge, only a package of underbody protection (55,000 rubles) will be offered. The rest of the owners, apparently, do not need.

The interior of the Touareg is unmistakable. You don't have to get used to the location and functionality of the buttons and levers. As befits a VW car, the ergonomics are great too. It is pleasant to sit in the driver's seat - tight seats with adjustable lateral support allow you to drive both collected and relaxed. The materials themselves and their color combinations are well chosen. True, there is nothing to catch the eye. Boring? Thoroughly!

In one of the five "dials" of the instrument panel there is a display on which you can display the navigator map. The graphics are no worse than on the console screen.

The new style of Porsche interiors fits the SUV. The scattering of instruments and slender rows of keys visually may overload the interior, but they do not harm the convenience of use. In addition, this interior adjusts to a dynamic mood - only plump chairs with a dozen adjustments are worth what! And in terms of the quality of finishing materials, the new Cayenne, perhaps, will give a noticeable head start to the previous one. One has only to bear in mind that most of them are offered for a considerable surcharge.

With the change of generations, both cars, as usual, have become technically more perfect and more interesting in appearance. The Touareg remains a solid and serious car, not even afraid of off-road conditions. The Cayenne has become what it essentially was before - a powerful crossover with a perky character, which is not spoiled by either a diesel engine or a simple spring suspension. Despite the same technical base, these are still ideologically different machines, the audience of which will hardly overlap.

Ten years ago, no one would have thought that it was possible to compare Porsche and Volkswagen. But times are changing. Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, according to the intentions of their creators, are cars with different character, charisma and for a different lifestyle. And the designers and engineers were tasked with creating cars that meet the spirit of the brand, but at the same time unify the components and assemblies used as much as possible.

The SUV from Porsche leaves a feeling of mild confusion. The easiest way to save the face of the brand is to take and attach the front end of "nine hundred and eleven" to the enlarged body of a passenger station wagon. It turned out to be either a high-raised Porsche 911, with its recognizable headlights and fenders, but it seems, like the Touareg, diligently licked. The first five-door, five-seater and off-road Porsche.

The Touareg makes a completely different impression. The smooth lines of the body are precise and laconic and, rather, not aggressive, like in the Cayenne, but the calming ones are reliable. If from the outside this car is in many ways simple and ascetic, then the interior is striking in luxury. The interior is comfortable, the steering wheel, instruments, the automatic selector, the scissor pedal are the same as in the VW Phaeton. So the Touareg is equipped like an executive sedan! Finishing with high-quality leather and wood, metal decor elements - the feeling of luxury does not leave for a second!

It's no secret that the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne are based on the same platform. And with a similar base, the designers had to work a lot on the chassis and gearbox settings. After all, if Volkswagen created, first of all, a comfortable car for all occasions, then the Porsche engineers had a different task - to make a "sports SUV", having lost a minimum of comfort.

A six-speed Tiptronic from the Japanese company Aisin is installed on both the Cayenne and the Touareg. The jerks when shifting are minimal, there are practically no mistakes in gear selection, the "sport" mode is truly sporty. But a little "thoughtfulness" during the transitions, especially "down", is still felt. In the manual mode of the gearbox control, it turned out that the gearshift keys on the steering wheel are inconvenient - the movements with the thumbs are unnatural, requiring habit. Of course, all the features of the Porsche's box and engine are manifested precisely in sport mode- The 3.2 liter engine, of course, cannot be called a cannonball, but it fully meets its acceleration dynamics.

The question is which is better - Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg or BMW X5 suggested itself. Three primordially German SUVs of practically the same price class. Moreover, two of them are practically brothers, and the third is a recognized standard of a luxury SUV, which has undergone a serious update and modernization.

By pursuing big test this time, the editors tried to equalize the cars in all respects: all cars - with six-cylinder naturally aspirated engines volumes of 3.0 and 3.2 liters. All - with "automatic" with the possibility of manual gear selection and medium configuration.


First impressions

Five years ago, no one would have thought that it was possible to compare Porsche and Volkswagen. But times change ... Touareg and Cayenne ... According to the intentions of their creators, these are cars with different character, with different charisma and for a different lifestyle. And the designers and engineers were tasked with creating cars that meet the spirit of the brand, but at the same time unify the components and assemblies used as much as possible. Indeed, in addition to the common platform, even the production of bodies was planned at one plant in Slovakia. Moreover, getting acquainted with both cars in detail, one gets the impression that the task of the designers was simplified: the already finished Touareg had to be turned into a Cayenne. Indeed, for all the completeness and refinement of the Touareg's design, the Porsche SUV leaves a feeling of slight confusion. The simplest move to save the face of the brand is to take and attach the front end of "nine hundred and eleven" to the enlarged body of a passenger station wagon. It turned out to be either a high-raised Porsche 911, with its recognizable headlights and fenders, but it seems, like the Touareg, diligently licked. Controversial decision ... Controversial Porsche ... It is also the first five-door Porsche, the first five-seat Porsche, the first off-road production Porsche ...

The Touraeg makes a completely different impression. The smooth lines of the body are precise and laconic and, rather, not aggressive, like in the Cayenne, but reassuringly reliable. If from the outside this car is in many ways simple and ascetic, then the interior is striking in luxury. The salon is made in the image and likeness of a phaeton one - a multifunctional steering wheel, instruments, an “automatic” selector, a “scissor” pedal are the same as on the VW Phaeton. So the Touareg is equipped like an executive sedan! Finishing with high-quality leather and wood, metal decor elements - the feeling of luxury does not leave for a second! But more on that later ...

The updated X-Fifth is good as always. Yes, it has been released for the sixth year, but it cannot be called outdated. Moreover, the xDrive all-wheel drive transmission and active power steering are just the beginning of a loud list of technical innovations in the updated X5.

Interior

The steering wheel - again evokes associations with a Porsche 911, the handrails along the central tunnel, and the ignition switch to the left of the steering wheel - all in the spirit of Porsche.
But ... Disappointment gradually begins to displace the first delight.
The feeling of "Porsche" in the Cayenne cabin still does not arise. Quite high, off-road seating has nothing to do with recumbent racing, and massive wide seats do not in any way resemble the narrow, sporty "buckets" of the Porsche 911.
Before your eyes - a wide "board" of the front panel with well-readable devices and a typical Volkswagen small screen on-board computer... The instrument lighting does not evoke any emotions - everything seems to be readable and in place, but absolutely faded (here it is worth noting that the Cayenne Turbo dashboard looks like a real car). The center panel in this version of the Cayenne does not add any emotion: Yes, heated seats and a stereo - this is clear and immediately visible. But look below. Two simple plastic joystick keys - what's this? Climate control? No! This is a banal air conditioner, and with a yellow matrix display, on which the divisions are displayed in small dots. On the left is the air force, on the right is the temperature. And under the mysterious plastic cap with the PORSCHE inscription - air flow control! The dull impression is diluted only by the tunnel with its curved handrails and the original "joystick" for transmission control.

Even realizing the fact that we have the cheapest version of the Cayenne in our hands, see the switches for the wipers and power supply units from VW of previous models, press and read information from the small display "from VW", think (!!!) about HOW to adjust the temperature in salon - this is already too much. This version, which is cheap for Porsche, and not at all cheap compared to its competitors, lacks the gloss and shine of a real Porsche!
But in general, throwing aside the nit-picking details unworthy of a Porsche, it is Spartan comfortable for an SUV, visibility (with the exception of small narrow mirrors) also has no complaints.

VW Touareg
You can repeat once again - luxury on the brink of decency. An expensive steering wheel, the rim of which is trimmed with wood on the outside and leather inside, has many functional features... Cruise control, sound control, on-board computer control - far from the whole list of steering wheel functions.

The on-board computer menu has a lot of modes and settings that allow you to customize almost everything "for yourself". Another of the pleasant moments of the on-board computer is that in any operating mode of the "automatic" the driver knows which gear is currently on: in addition to the laconic letter "D", the gear number is displayed on the instrument cluster.
The blue illumination of the instruments is very pleasing to the eye at night, but too small digitization of the speedometer (5 km each) is very irritating to the eyes.
And here is an interesting functional solution - the handle on the central tunnel, which is responsible for engaging a downshift, as well as blocking the center and cross-axle differentials.

With all the crazy number of buttons, keys, knobs and knobs, they are all logical, understandable, and are exactly where they should be.
Although the Cayenne and Touareg have the same seat design and electronics, the Touareg's seat profile is more comfortable.

About eternal - no comments. Even after a facelift. If an attentive person still notices changes from the outside (the radiator grille has changed, the front and taillights), then the salon remained simple in a driver's way. The instrument cluster has been constant for almost 20 years, the arrangement of buttons and keys is subject to clear and understandable logic - you find any of them intuitively.
It is worth noting the new, truly sporty steering wheel, comfortable and grippy in any part of it.

The X5 was the only car in the test drive with manual seat adjustments that didn't lose its sportiness.

Ergonomics and driver comfort
There is no objective assessment here. The opinions of the editorial staff were divided more on preferences for a particular brand than for a real balanced comparison:
The BMW and Cayenne have more cramped conditions compared to the Touareg, but this is dictated by their "sporty" character. Visibility for all cars is almost the same, all cars have steering adjustments in two directions. The number of electric seat adjustments in the Cayenne and Touareg is compensated for by the sporty, manual seat profile in the BMW.

Convenience of rear passengers
In width, the difference between the cars is barely noticeable, and in terms of legroom, there is a slight advantage on the Tuareg's side. But if the three of us sit in the back, then the Touareg is less comfortable - the massive central tunnel is to blame, although the floor in the other two cars is even. The BMW interior is only slightly behind the Touareg in terms of rear passenger legroom, but the central tunnel is significantly smaller here.

Luggage compartment
The luggage carriers of all cars are equal in volume and similar in shape. But for the carriage of luggage, the Volkswagen Touareg is better suited due to the "correct" shape luggage compartment... Unlike the Touareg and Cayenne, BMW has backdoor double-leaf (with separately opening glass), and the lower part folds back to a horizontal position, "lengthening" the flat floor. Only practice shows that getting to the depths of the trunk, bending over a closed or open side, is simply unrealistic. As compensation for the inconvenience, BMW is the only one with a full-size spare tire.

In the Cayenne, the balance of suspension settings is clearly biased towards handling - stiffness is felt on every meter of the road. Moreover, the higher the speed, the sportier the car behaves. The Porsche goes through long corners giving the feel of a real car. Electronic power steering clearly transmits all movements, giving you the confidence to control everything. By the way, the sound from under the hood at high revs is somewhat reminiscent of the boxing Porsche "sixes"!

Yes, the Porsche Cayenne is a road car. For a very good roads! On smooth highways, fans of the brand will recognize their Porsche in Cayenne.

Volkswagen Touareg well follows the gas pedal, "automatic" gently and quickly shifts gears from first to sixth. Of course, the Aisin box also has a Sport mode for the Touareg, and then the upshifts are much later than at 2500 rpm in normal mode. Also, in Sport mode, the box does not include the sixth gear, but when braking it goes into lower gears, so that at any moment it is ready for a sharp increase in speed.

The handling of the Touareg is the same as that of the all-wheel drive versions of "regular" cars. Firstly, it is amazing stability with sharpened steering responsiveness on a straight line. In corners, the Tuareg exhibits smooth, soft and predictable responses, although body roll is much stronger than on the Porsche and BMW. If ESP is working, then the car goes on rails. And if you turn off the stabilization system, the Touareg first slides with the front wheels, and only then goes into a smooth and easily controlled skid.

Yes, both the Touareg and the Porsche are beautiful! But Bmw x5, even a 3-liter one, even with an old 5-liter stepped box, this is a real drivers car! How the X5 takes off, how it picks up speed, how fast the gear changes! The transition to a step or two "down" is also faster than competitors. And on the straight line and on the bends, "X-five" behaves incomparably. Working in collaboration with the stabilization system, the xDrive all-wheel drive transmission pulls the car into a corner, instantly redistributing torque between the axles. Even with the DSC stabilization system turned off, the X-Five enters the corner more confidently than Volkswagen and Porsche.
Unlike competitors, X5 has no blocking center differential, but this is already a minus, which, most likely, will pop up on winter test drive, where, predictably, X5 will not take the best place.

And now the cars are on the same straight line. The assumptions that BMW will be more dynamic at acceleration than Porsche have come true by 100%. Even without accurate electronic measurements, the difference in the declared accelerations (8.8 seconds to 100 km / h, versus 9.7 seconds to 100 km / h) was obvious. Surprised that the "lumpy" Touareg did not lag behind his sports brother at all!
Even the fact that the streamlining coefficient of the already 6-year-old X5 body is 0.36, while the aerodynamics of the newer Cayenne is Cx = 0.39 ...

Independent counting suggests that Volkswagen won this test. Which is logical. Firstly, this car was developed from scratch, taking into account all the achievements and developments of the concern. Secondly, in Tuareg everything is taken into account to the smallest detail, and indeed, in its universal and consumer qualities, it surpasses its competitors. And, thirdly, there is a very compelling argument - Tuareg, depending on the configuration, is cheaper than similarly "packed" competitors by 130-160 thousand crowns. This is already serious.
Although, "driver" natures will like only BMW X5. And here already without compromise!
As for the Porsche Cayenne, it is an expensive "brand". And an expensive lifestyle. Understandable and accessible to few. And there will still be those who discover the world of Porsche with the Cayenne.

Touareg 2018. Fans of the model immediately divided into two camps, some of which are disappointed in the model, due to the complete transformation of the once serious SUV into an urban SUV, others are happy with modern technologies and engineering solutions in the new model.

Of course, these points of view have a place to be, because initially the Touareg was a real SUV with an honest all-wheel drive, a low gear and a center differential lock. On the other hand, the second generation was very late on the market and was no longer relevant, because the 2nd generation Touareg was born in 2010 exactly 8 years ago.

Since we are interested people and consider the model not from the point of view of a simple consumer, but from the point of view of model fans, let's start from afar and fast forward to 2002, when the car was first presented at the Paris Motor Show. Then the Touareg made a big impression, as it combined the comfort of business class sedans and off-road qualities large frame SUVs.

In 2007, the car underwent a restyling, which undoubtedly benefited, since the first generation was not very reliable due to the electronics. The line of motors has also been updated, they have been improved and get rid of old problems. A new three-liter diesel engine has appeared which has gained immense popularity in the world market, mainly due to its combination of power and consumption. A little later, we were presented with a charged version of the Touareg r50 with a 5-liter diesel engine, familiar to us from the first Tuareg. The car received nice buns, adaptive cruise control and a blind spot tracking system. In 2007 it was cool and few competitors could boast of the same options.

It is worth noting that the Volkswagen Touareg in the Russian Federation was bought by wealthy people and mostly honestly earned with money, because Volkswagen never shouted about itself and was never a premium brand, like Mercedes or BMW, but meanwhile it was not inferior to them in terms of comfort and any driving characteristics.

In 2010, absolutely new Touareg which raises the bar for competitors. The new one was even better controlled, and the new one simply impressed with its dynamics and torque. The car received all the modern systems that were popular at that time. By off road Touareg everything was also moving well, although slightly worse than the previous generation and it is not even connected so much with the device all-wheel drive as with a new body and its painted lower bumper parts.

In 2014, there was a restyling. A more modern appearance and refinement of NF children's sores made the car truly flawless. Finally, bi-xenon headlights were already installed in the base and the terrible halogen, as it was on the second body, was no longer there. The most popular diesel 3-liter engine was also modernized and the adaptive cruise control system was improved. But no matter how good car was not, time takes its toll and in 2018 this body is already morally obsolete, as well as all the electronic filling.

And finally, a new generation was introduced to us. Most auto bloggers and auto journalists agreed that the new Tuareg will be the same Q7 with fewer options and a different design. As we understood this is not entirely true, the Volkswagen Touareg is built on the MLB platform, the car also received a very aggressive aspiring design and advanced optics.

Also, the interior decoration of the Tuareg has changed quite a lot, two huge monitors adorning dashboard and the multimedia control unit are in perfect harmony with the atmospheric lighting that runs along the perimeter of the entire cabin. The long deflector on the passenger side, we are already familiar with the Audi Q7 and as for me it looks a little alien here.

The high-tech center console is not overloaded with buttons, two transmission control washers, the choice of the four-wheel drive mode and height ground clearance... Also, the gearshift knob on the Tuareg has disappeared, now there is a modern joystick, it looks good, but still the coolest and most comfortable handle was in the first generation, it resembled the thrust control on an airplane. Now, in the front row, you have access to massage.

From the pleasant thing on the car, it became possible to order door closers. The rear of the car looks very massive new LED lights set new fashion all lineup Volkswagen, while the elongated chrome Touareg lettering reminds us of the Porsche Cayenne's family ties, as well as the first night vision system.

But if appearance it's a matter of taste for everyone, the new line of engines is out of the question.

We will not focus on the technical details of the power units, let's just say that the three-liter diesel engine remained, but interestingly, this is the new diesel v8 4.0 accelerating the Volkswagen Touareg to a hundred in 5 seconds, its torque is 900 Newtons and the power is 415 horsepower.
