The preparation of the new Focus has entered the home stretch: the main development process has already been completed, now the model is being fine-tuned, and the photo spies have caught camouflaged prototypes on the roads. According to the British publication Autocar, new Focus will be presented at the beginning of 2018, but some details about the car are already available.

The fourth generation Focus will be built on the same Global C platform that underlies the second and third generation models. The car will practically not change in size, but the wheelbase will grow by about five centimeters, which promises increased room for rear passengers. According to this parameter, the current model is inferior to most competitors and even some! This will make the car lighter by about 50 kg.

The main body type in Europe will remain a five-door hatchback, although there will also be a sedan and a station wagon, and in addition there will be an "off-road" version of the Active with plastic overlays on the body and a slightly increased ground clearance according to the sample. Moreover, it is possible that such machines can be ordered with four-wheel drive: In this case, the transmission is borrowed from the Ford Kuga soplatform crossover.

The European engine range will be slightly reduced: the initial aspirated 1.6 with 85 hp will disappear from it. The current 1.0 EcoBoost turbo engine will become the base, but the number of boost options will grow from two to three (100, 125 and 139 hp). Gasoline turbo engines of 1.5 and 2.0 liters are still in the program. The only remaining diesel engine may be the 1.5 TDCi engine (now it is produced in versions with a capacity of 95, 105 and 120 hp), and the two-liter engine, most likely, will be installed only on the "charged" ST version. In addition, the all-electric Focus will remain in the range.

However, for us, these calculations are not too important: in Russia, the motors will certainly be completely different. For example, now our Focuses do not have three-cylinder turbo engines or diesel engines. The main engine is a gasoline engine with three boost options (85, 105 and 125 hp), and the most powerful is a 1.5 turbo four (150 hp) imported from Romania.

In a spy photo of the interior, you can see that the shape of the front panel has become much more laconic and resembles new fiesta... This should add room to the cabin: the massive bezel makes the current Focus feel cramped. The journalists of the Autocar edition cite the words of one of the Ford designers, who admitted that they went too far with the front panel of the "third" Focus and Fiesta of the sixth generation. It is still difficult to say something definite about the appearance, but the photographs show that rear pillars hatchbacks have lost small windows, and the rear optics for the first time in the history of the Focus will go to the trunk lid.

In Europe, the third-generation Ford Focus could not repeat the success of its predecessors: in a record 2011, 292 thousand cars were sold, while the demand for the second-generation model reached 440 thousand copies a year, and the "first" Focus found more than 500 thousand for three years in a row. buyers.

The hatchback has two gearboxes: a 6-speed "mechanics" or the latest intelligent 8-range "automatic" with a torque converter. The most powerful gasoline engine allows the Focus in the hatchback body to accelerate to a maximum speed of 222 km / h, and it will take 8.3 seconds to accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h. Characteristics of the 150 hp heavy fuel hatchback modification: maximum speed 210 km / h, acceleration to 100 km / h in 8.5 seconds. Considerable attention is paid to improving efficiency. Probably, following its main competitor in the C-class, the novelty will already be equipped with a heated rear row of seats in the base.

The entire line of Ford Focus 4 2018 is equipped only with turbocharged engines of the EcoBoost and EcoBlue families.

Petrol EcoBoost will be presented in two variations:

While we're on the subject of drive, let's take a look at the drivetrain and suspension. There is no unambiguous information from the manufacturer, which is strange. It is known for certain only about the presence of a 6-speed mechanical box gears and a 6-speed "robot".

It is also worth considering the emergence of the Power Shift machine, which has proven itself in the third generation of the Focus. But what really remains a secret and at the same time arouses some interest is a completely new automatic transmission with 9 steps.

As for the suspension, we can definitely say that the increased wheelbase will significantly affect the driving characteristics of the 2018 Ford Focus 4. But we cannot yet say whether this suspension will be smoother and more comfortable or whether the car, like a cat, will cling to the roadway, it all depends on the suspension and steering settings.

It is also worth considering that, despite the increase in the dimensions of the Ford body, its weight is noticeably lower than that of its predecessor and will amount to something about one ton. This is achieved through the use of high-strength steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber in the body structure, which will make the car lighter.

With regard to the drive, of course, preference will be given to the front drive wheels, of course, except for the "charged" versions, which will be equipped with all-wheel drive.
