In July, the VAZ boxes had not yet been placed in Khreya.
There are also jambs in imported boxes ...
I could not resist and drove today to replace the fifth gears. The master said that there are repairs of renosh boxes, including complex ones.
They drove my car onto a lift, removed the wheel and got access to the fifth gear cover:

They removed the cover, saw the gears:

They are not very easy to remove, special pullers are used. And the time is not fast. To my question - why don't you heat, the master answered - only Armenians heat
In the end, everything was done in about two hours with short breaks. Elf 75w / 80 oil, poured into TO-1 with a mileage of 15450 (now 25200), is as clean as a tear. It was poured back. In the litrushka, just in case, after replacement, I have 700 grams left, about 100 of them were useful for refilling (they spilled a little during disassembly).
Now about the impressions. At a speed of 105 km / h, I took pictures of the tidy 1. BEFORE and 2. AFTER:
1. 2.
Taking a picture on the go is not very convenient, but the difference in rpm turned out at this speed of about 300 rpm. Maybe a little more. It's a pity that I took off the multitronics, otherwise it would have been more accurate in numbers (and not in the direction of the arrow).
A few more photos by which you can compare the turnovers I got with yours:

So far I have traveled only 60 km after the replacement, so there is not enough data. But a bold plus of replacement is already clearly visible - at a speed of 120 km / h, a strong hum ceased to appear. It is absent both at 130 km / h and at 140. I did not accelerate any more. The silence in the cabin is unusual, but very pleasant.
I also misled myself
Before leaving for the service station, I dropped the readings of the standard BC, upon arrival I saw a consumption of 8.6 liters. Of course, the route was along the M5 Ural, which is now in perfect condition on my section. Well, winter wheels contribute to an increase in consumption. Before returning home, I dropped the BC again, and upon arrival I found an expense of 8.0. At the same time, he gave the gas even more seriously in order to test the new gears. Thought .... Consumption cannot fall so sharply, miracles do not happen. And only half an hour later I remembered that I was driving to the service on AI 92 gasoline of the Sh network, and before the road back I filled in 30 liters of the same 92, but the L. network. There everything fell into place, everything is fine with the consumption and there are really no miracles.
In the course of further operation, I will observe the flow rate, but I do not expect any special changes.
About elasticity. At 55 km / h now, of course, you cannot turn on the fifth. A reasonable minimum is 70 km / h, and 80 is better. By the way, the cue has somehow adapted and now lights the green arrow up at a speed of 75 km / h. The fourth will now have to be tucked in more often, but this is for the best - overtaking will occur with a margin. If you have a cruise, such a fifth is only a plus and a joy.

The Lada Xray car has been on the country's market for a long time. The Internet has accumulated a lot of reviews, wishes and complaints from the drivers of this car regarding the transmission. Recall that when designing this car, the designers were faced with a choice: how to equip the Lada's transmission, except for the version with mechanics. There were two options: an automatic gearbox and a robotic transmission. The decision made by AvtoVAZ was to choose the second option. Having analyzed all the factors affecting the implementation of a particular box, the developers settled on the option with a robot. Why? And what came of it? Let's try to figure it out.

Semi-automatic on Lada X Rey

After the presentation of the Lada X Rey concept with a manual gearbox, the question of an alternative to mechanics remained open and was of great interest to potential consumers. The need to develop a variant of the box, in addition to a manual transmission, was unconditional. This is especially true for residents of megacities, who deal with such a phenomenon as traffic jams every day. It is physically not very convenient to switch speeds manually using a lever in this driving mode.

The drivers wondered what kind of automatic machine would be on X Ray, and it turned out to be an AMT semi-automatic (auto-mechanical transmission). During the time elapsed from the presentation of the Lada at the exhibition to its launch into mass production, AvtoVAZ decided to introduce a semi-automatic robotic box as the second version of the transmission. This type of transmission is a five-speed gearbox, similar in principle to a manual gearbox, in which the function of disengaging and engaging the clutch with the road is carried out by an electronic control system (because of this it is usually called a robot).

The box for Lada X Rey is developed on a five-speed platform from the VAZ 2180 and has similar technical characteristics. Moreover, the main mechanism of this checkpoint was not replaced, but only improved together with the German concern "Friedrichshafen".

Reasons for choosing Togliatti residents in favor of a robot

The robotic checkpoint at one time made a leap in the progress of the world auto industry. However, the experience of using this development by many foreign companies, as a kind of know-how, was not always unambiguous. In theory, this is a variant of the transmission, which is designed to create stubborn competition for automation on demand among consumers. But in reality, during the long-term practice of introducing this alternative, even the eminent European concerns had not entirely successful cases of producing cars with semi-automatic machines.

There are many reasons for and against choosing such a transmission. And when choosing the best option, which system should be an alternative to mechanics, automobile factories compare many factors in favor of a particular box. The robot has its merits and demerits. In the case of AvtoVAZ, there were the following reasons for introducing a semi-automatic gearbox.

  1. Manufacturing a robot is less costly than an automaton.
  2. The prototype for the creation of the robot was the mechanics from the VAZ.
  3. Both manual and automatic shifting are combined in one vehicle, which attracts more consumers.

Regarding the first advantage from the list, it can be noted that when using it, the manufacturer significantly reduces the cost of manufacturing a car. Due to this, AvtoVAZ was able to offer a competitive price on the market.

If X Ray was stuffed with an automatic transmission (automatic gearbox), then we can confidently say that the car would cost 50-100 thousand rubles more.

The fact that the robot is developed on the VAZ platform is even more beneficial for the formation of a relatively low price. The third plus of X Ray, as mentioned above, attracts both lovers of automation and adherents of manual control. This advantage, in addition to simplifying pricing, makes the Xray model even more successful in terms of demand and marketing in general.

Specifications and prices of complete sets with different boxes

Lada Iks Rey is on sale in various configurations. The cost of the Lada also depends on these variations. The most budgetary version of X Ray with basic equipment can be purchased at a price of 590 thousand rubles. The most complete hatchback has a cost of just over 720 thousand rubles.

The creators of this model have developed different types of motors for different transmission options. The five-speed mechanics is produced in combination with a domestic unit, the volume of which is 1.6 liters, and the amount of horsepower under the hood is only 106. Also, a Japanese engine with a similar volume, but the power of which is slightly more - 110 liters. with.

AMT is combined with only one type of motor. The unit is more voluminous - 1.8 liters. With the increase in the size of the cylinders, the amount of power of the given car also increased. It is 122 horsepower.

In the new Lada x ray, modern gearboxes are used, the development of which was carried out specifically for this model. The presented checkpoints are the next step for AvtoVAZ vehicles. They deservedly sound positive among motorists who have tested them in action.

There are three gearbox options for xRay, of which two were developed by the French, and the third by AvtoVAZ itself. The first two options have a five-speed mechanical gearshift, and the domestic gearbox is a robotic automatic. Domestic AMT transmission quickly proved to be the most reliable and high-quality among this type of gearbox. When used, the driver can quickly switch between mechanical and automatic modes.

Gearboxes are divided into the following options:

Mechanics in lada xRay

The X Rhee manual transmission is divided into two variants: JR5518 and JR3512. Although they both have 5 gears, they differ in the clarity of the shift and the reliability of the transmission as a whole. Unlike the old gearboxes used by the manufacturer, the new ones are much quieter and vibrate less. The shift lever travel has become smooth and easy to move, which reduces the applied forces while driving.

In addition, the new gearboxes use much less oil, thanks to the shifting of the shift mechanism to the upper sphere. These changes have led to a decrease in the likelihood of difficult gear shifting in negative temperatures, as well as the complete disappearance of the problem with thickening and freezing of oil.

The gearshift module for x ray, which is responsible for the smoothness of the shifting, was produced in germany. The output shaft and new synchronizers betray the quietness and durability of the box.

Robotic checkpoint in xRay

For strategic reasons, AvtoVAZ decided to replace the conventional automatic x ray with a robotic gearbox. Initially given, but after a while she was able to gain an excellent reputation, showing in practice its advantages. She was able to bypass foreign counterparts in quality of performance.

It has built-in electrical components that compensate for the clutch operation. The clutch itself was produced by Valeo, and the actuators are from Germany. The box contains protection to prevent incorrect switching. The checkpoint is low. It offers both manual and automatic modes, as well as a gear reset mode. Gear changes are quick and twitch-free.

The automatic transmission in xRay is able to adapt itself to the driving style, and does not require warming up even in severe frosts. In general, the owners are positive, but there are also questions about its work. For example, the need to fix the pressing of the gas pedal or during the stop is not camping. In some cases, there may be slight twitching of the checkpoint.

Choosing a high quality and reliable transmission is one of the most important points when choosing and buying a new car. Which gearbox, of those proposed as a transmission for Lada XRay, will best meet the expectations and needs of potential buyers, you can find out in this article.

What gearboxes are installed on X Ray

The choice is not very great - the manufacturer offered only two options in the range of available transmissions. However, the proposed types of boxes are quite capable of meeting the needs of any domestic driver.

Available for this model: a five-speed robotic gearbox - AMT and a five-speed manual gearbox. What they are - it is necessary to tell in more detail.

5-speed manual transmission

A manual gearbox for Lada XRay, according to many experts, will become one of the most popular vehicle equipment options. As a manual transmission, a French development will be used, successfully used by the Renault concern, which in turn was provided to equip many Renault and AvtoVAZ models. The front-wheel drive high hatchback Lada XRay is no exception. This box shows good results and works like a clock.

The service life and resource of the box, previously used by the French manufacturer to complete the second generation Renault Logan, do not raise any doubts about its quality and durability. It is quite unpretentious to use and rarely requires major repairs.

Previously, this manual transmission has already been successfully used in the assembly of the Lada Vesta, released for sale in November 2015. As the customer reviews of Vesta show, this unit does not cause any complaints in operation, therefore it will become a worthy choice for every buyer of Lada Kh-Rey.

The only question a potential buyer may have is some imbalance in terms of motor power. For some reason, the designers have created a fairly rigid framework when assembling power units, so the manual transmission is used only in conjunction with two not the most powerful engines. The Russian engine VAZ-21129 (1.6 liters, 106 horsepower) and the Japanese H4Mk (1.6 liters, 110 horsepower) are weaker than the VAZ-21179 engine (1.8 liters, 122 hp), which is available only with AMT. For example, in the most budgetary version of X Ray, the power is 106 hp. may not be sufficient to provide the necessary vehicle dynamics.

5-speed robotic automatic transmission (AMT)

As for the automatic machine, AvtoVAZ used its own development - a robotic five-speed transmission with the ability to "intercept" control in manual mode. It will be possible to use the "robot" proposed by the developer for equipping the Lada XRay only in the configuration of the power unit together with the VAZ-21179 engine, which has a volume of 1.8 liters and a rated power of 122 hp.

You can learn more about how the automatic transmission of a domestic manufacturer works in more detail in numerous videos that were created both by independent experts and by journalists from major print media on automotive topics. In general, the operation of the variator was considered quite good, taking into account the latest adjustments from the manufacturer.

The disadvantages of AMT include the tendency to automatically downshift when climbing a steep slope. If the car starts to reduce power, there is a risk of losing momentum when overtaking on this hill (despite the built-in electronic stability control). The incorrect adjustment of the traction control system, which muffled the engine speed when the bearing front wheels slipped, also contributed to this misunderstanding. Since these nuances were noticed even during the first test drives, it is hoped that the manufacturer corrected these shortcomings in time. As a last resort, it is recommended to intercept manual control by switching the variator.

The second nuance is common to all automatic transmissions. One way or another, the electronics "slows down" a little with an increase or decrease in gear, so there are some delays in the operation of the mechanism. An experienced driver with manual transmission will get significantly better car acceleration rates than even the most advanced automatic.

Why AvtoVAZ abandoned its own mechanics

One of the most important questions about the Lada XRay transmission can be precisely this factor. Why did the manufacturer ignore its own manual transmission in favor of a French design? There are several reasons for this.

First, the French design really shows a higher level of reliability. This unit is more durable, does not require such frequent oil changes and generally behaves much better. During the operation of cars equipped with a five-speed French manual transmission, questions arise extremely rarely.

Secondly, domestic designers were never able to fix the Russian mechanics of their own manufacture by the beginning of the serial production of X Ray. This unit, used in some developments of the concern, preceding Vesta (for example, in Kalina and Grant), showed too high a noise level - the operation of the box was audible even in the car, which put a lot of pressure on the nerves of many drivers.

If we consider that the prices of the French and domestic manual transmissions are quite comparable (the domestic one is slightly cheaper than the foreign one), then this solution turns out to be the most reasonable and profitable when fully considering the assembly of the Lada X-Ray.

Conclusions for potential buyers

The conclusion is simple enough, but not too obvious. Since the mechanics are equipped with two less powerful engines, without the possibility of installing it on the flagship VAZ-21179 engine, and the automatic machine, on the contrary, cannot be installed on weaker engines, the buyer is seriously limited in his choice. Choosing mechanics, he automatically excludes from his field of vision the most productive engine from the proposed line, and choosing an automatic machine, he loses the opportunity to save on the motor, choosing a less demanding fuel.

Nevertheless, this defect causes more attention to the Lada XRay "Comfort" configuration, in which a choice of mechanics with a Japanese engine and an automatic transmission on a 1.8-liter engine is available. According to many experts, it is this configuration that will be the most sold and demanded.

Until the release, the Lada X Rey model remained a rather expected car for a number of obvious reasons. First of all, modern design, economical and efficient motors, as well as the presence of an automatic transmission, combined with an acceptable price against the background of competitors in this class, made the Lada XRAY model quite popular and in demand.

At the same time, maximum attention was initially focused on the type of transmission and features. Next, we will consider what a fret X Ray with automatic transmission is, what an automatic transmission is for X Ray, and also what to look for when choosing a version of Lada X Ray, an automatic transmission.

Xray Lada model: automatic transmission

As you know, the modern car industry today offers several types of automatic transmissions at once. Until recently, the most common was the so-called, which for a long time was actually the only available option. This type of automatic machine is quite reliable, provides high comfort and smoothness while driving, maintainability, etc. However, there are also downsides.

Given the fact that classic automatic transmissions are expensive to manufacture and subsequent maintenance, complex in terms of design and repair, and are often not economical solutions (due to reduced efficiency and losses in), engineers and automakers are constantly looking for cheaper and more cost-effective options.

At one time I tried to compete with a torque converter automatic transmission, but certain features did not allow the variator transmission to supplant the traditional automatic transmission. For this reason, the next type of automatic transmission was the robot. Moreover, today there are two types of robotic gearboxes at once - single-disk (with one clutch) and.

  • Each of these types of "robots" has both pros and cons, but many manufacturers began to actively install such gearboxes on their cars instead of the usual hydromechanical automatic or CVT. The Lada Ixrei model was no exception.

So, on the Xray model, robotic gear shifting is implemented, and the type of the box is. In other words, this car is not equipped with an automatic, but a robotic gearbox. Now let's look at what features the Lada X Rey automatic robotic box has.

First of all, Khrei is a front-wheel drive car, the main power unit for this model is a gasoline engine with a displacement of 1.6 liters and a capacity of 114 hp. with. Such a motor assumes installation in tandem with a 5-stage. The manufacturer also offers a more powerful 1.8-liter engine with an automatic robot AMT.

  • So, AMT is the same 5-speed manual transmission, however, instead of manual control, the transmission operates under the control of an ECU and special actuators (servomechanisms, actuators).

Otherwise, mechanisms were additionally installed on the standard five-speed manual transmission that are responsible for engaging / disengaging the clutch, as well as for selecting the desired gear and engaging it in automatic mode and depending on various road conditions. All this is controlled by a special electronic unit, in the memory of which certain operating algorithms (software, firmware, software) are "wired".

Thus, the whole process is fully automated, which gives the driver the convenience of an automatic machine combined with high fuel efficiency, acceleration dynamics and reliability of a manual transmission. By the way, engineers who specialize in the production of transmissions, as well as various components and assemblies for cars (both passenger cars and trucks) and other types of equipment, took a direct part in the creation of a robot box for Lada X Rey.

This AMT gearbox is already familiar to many motorists from the Kalina and Priora models, but there the box is installed in tandem with a 1.6-liter 106 hp engine. On the Lada X-RAY, the engine is more powerful and larger in volume (1.8 liters and 122 hp), as a result of which the robot box was additionally adapted to work in tandem with such an internal combustion engine.

Also, when developing AMT for Ixrei, not only another engine was separately taken into account, but also the weight of the car, various technical characteristics, etc. Even the automatic transmission Lada X Rey was being finalized in real conditions (the pre-production version was actively tested by German specialists). After a series of tests, many important changes were made to the algorithms of the AMT.

One way or another, the model went into series. The AMT box turned out to be cheap to manufacture (which influenced the final cost of Lada Khrei) and quite economical. The main task facing the developers was successfully solved.

At the same time, even taking into account all the modifications and adaptations, as well as the low cost, not all drivers like such an automatic machine. In other words, before buying a car with such an automatic transmission, you need to separately take into account certain disadvantages of the AMT box.

Disadvantages of the AMT robot on the Lada Xray

On the one hand, the car received a new modern engine from AvtoVAZ (16-valve VAZ-21179, volume 1.8 liters, power 122 hp, 170 Nm.). It would seem that with such characteristics of the internal combustion engine, paired with an adapted and tuned robot, the dynamics should be excellent. However, on the other hand, it is the shortcomings of the AMT box in this bundle that are fully manifested.

Immediately, we note that there is no fault of ZF specialists who developed the gearbox and software. The main problem is that AMT boxes themselves, although cheap, are far from an ideal solution, which is confirmed by the sad experience of many manufacturers around the world.

AvtoVAZ understands this very well, but the priority is to save money and reduce the cost of the car in any way in order to be able to compete. To be clear, single-disk robots such as AMT are the cheapest type of robotic gearboxes.

  • If you do not go into details, immediately after the development they began to be installed by the largest automakers (European, Japanese, etc.). As a result, such robots found themselves under the hoods of budget models, as well as on cars from the middle segment of 2006-2009 (for example, Toyota, Ford, Honda, Opel, Peugeot, etc.).

Taking into account the fact that these machines were positioned as an affordable replacement for the "classic" automatic transmissions and advertising companies focused on their advantages, many car owners purchased cars with such an automatic robot. However, it later became clear that.

First of all, due to the design features (automated mechanics), when driving, a driver who has moved from a "classic" machine immediately notices jerks, delays and failures. The reason is a mechanical clutch instead of a gas turbine engine, as well as delays in the actuation of servo mechanisms, since time is spent on switching on / off, selecting and changing gears, etc.

These disadvantages are in fact a more serious disadvantage than the advantages of AMT in the form of low cost, as well as good acceleration dynamics simultaneously with better fuel efficiency.

It should also be noted that in the future, the owners of the robots also faced rapid wear of the clutch and breakdowns of the servomechanisms that control the gearbox, already by 80-100 thousand km. mileage. On many cars, it was required to regularly adapt the clutch (every 15-20 thousand km), and the clutch itself "went" about 60-80 thousand km.

If we add to this the rather high cost of servomechanisms and their low maintainability, combined with the high cost of individual spare parts for AMT, then such robotic mechanics in terms of reliability turned out to be not at all the "unkillable" unit (by analogy with the manual transmission), as many expected.

As a result, large world manufacturers began to quickly abandon this type of robotic transmissions in favor of "classic" automatic transmissions, CVTs or the newest preselective double-clutch robotic transmissions ().

  • If we talk about Lada Xray with a robot, even taking into account the modifications, the potential of a powerful engine cannot be fully realized with a box of this type. The car "bites" its nose when switching, there are unexpected failures and pauses.

In fact, the box works more or less predictably only in quiet mode, but with dynamic driving, you can forget about smoothness and instant responsiveness. Even the manual mode does not help (by analogy with), since it is also semi-automatic.

Also, unlike an automatic transmission, with an AMT box, the car itself does not go forward after the driver releases the brake pedal. To be more precise, XRAY will start moving only after the driver presses on the gas, which clearly complicates the process of moving in traffic jams.

Let's sum up

As you can see, if you need a car with automatic transmission and the priority is Lada X Rey, the automatic transmission on this model is both an advantage and a disadvantage. First of all, the transmission itself is not an automatic automatic transmission, but an automated mechanics AMT (robotic gearbox) with all the pros and cons that we discussed above.

As practice shows, today such boxes are usually put on cheap cars to reduce the cost. Also, although the design of the gearbox itself is relatively simple and reliable, the weak point is the clutch and actuators, and the latter can quickly fail, are difficult to repair and are expensive.

Finally, we note that robots of the AMT type are more suitable for calm drivers who prefer a measured driving style. With active acceleration, ragged driving pace, maneuvering and constant rearrangements, jerks, jerks and failures are inevitable.

Also, the operating conditions directly affect the service life of robots of the AMT type. These boxes may require maintenance and repairs as early as 80 thousand km. (at least replacing the clutch), if the car is operated in a busy city in a start-stop mode. To increase the resource of AMT and its elements, how does it differ from an automatic transmission, as well as how to maintain and what cannot be done with a robotic transmission of this type.
