Advantages and disadvantages of the Opel Mokka 2016-2017 revealed based on reviews real owners... More detailed pros and cons of Opel Mokka 1.4 and 1.8 with mechanics, automatic, front and four-wheel drive 4 × 4 can be learned from the stories below:

Owner reviews

In general, the car is good, it holds the road, it is stable, I like the design. My car drove 37,000 km and… let it down !!! On the way from Moscow to Belgorod, I stopped for tea, turned off the engine, and it did not start again. The scoreboard says "Low engine power"! Brought home on a tow truck, and now there is a repair.

Also, one cannot fail to note the uncomfortable driver's seat - the side "wings" on the seat are not completely missed and press.

Sergey Kucherenko, a review about the Opel Mokka 1.7 diesel (130 hp) AT 4WD 2014

Video review

The machine is not bad, but somehow DULL: it is impossible to disperse from a place, if necessary. She first slows down, and then, THINKING, goes into mode. Therefore, if on the X-Trail of my husband I easily go around the tail of the cars and easily fit back into the stream, not being afraid of NOT HAPPENING to change lanes, then here you will think 10 times before deciding to overtake.

In general, the Mocca handles well, easily goes through all the turns on any road. At first I was afraid of this so-called INTELLECTUAL all-wheel drive: the devil only knows, when it turns on - there is no information on the scoreboard. But, it seems, snowy roads pass decently at the dacha, however, it was not necessary to get out of the pits.

Comfortable fit, although the seat adjustment is awkward. A lot of space, the satellite on the right does not interfere. Very good forward visibility: due to the strong slope of the front of the machine, it seems that you begin to see the road directly from the front glass.

Highly high consumption gasoline. I have considerable driving experience, I can drive economically. On the same X-Trail, my consumption is on average 1.0-1.5 liters less, although the car is noticeably more powerful.

Arina Kovaleva, review of the Opel Mokka 1.8 (140 HP) AT 4WD 2013

At the moment I own a car for 3 months, mileage 3,000 km. I will compare Mokka with the previous Sid and parent Mokka 1.8.

Engine: we live in a small town, it is not always possible to accelerate to 60 km / h, therefore it is hard to say about the consumption. When I go to the regional center (Volgograd), I get 12-13 liters of conder in traffic jams, if more or less on the roads, then if you wish, you can meet the top ten.

On the highway at a speed of 100-110 km / h, it shows 6.5-7.5 liters. In terms of consumption on parental 1.8, it's hard to say for sure, I drive a little on it. I spotted only once, when I drove a car from the passenger compartment along the highway. At 100 km / h, the Mokka with a 1.8-liter engine ate an average of 8.5 liters. The dynamics of the 1.4 are noticeably better, especially on the track.

The machine switches smoothly, without noticeable jerks. It sometimes dulls during active driving, especially when going downhill. In case of serious overtaking, when there is a long line of trucks, cars and oncoming traffic in dense traffic, you have to switch to manual mode. The location of the gear shift key is inconvenient.

Suspension. The suspension is moderately stiff, the soul does not shake out. When you load the rear, a slight swing of the stern on the waves begins on the track. Of course, before the buildup of Solaris Mokke is far, but still not very comfortable. Shock absorber breakdowns were not even once.

Salon. Already Sid's width is unambiguous. The three of us are very cramped behind, you won't go far. Similar in size to Solaris. My height is 183 cm, I sit down by myself perfectly, there is a lot of legroom in the back seat. There is enough overhead too.

Review of Opel Mokka 1.4 (140 HP) with automatic transmission in 2013

Appearance. Well, here the taste and color, to each his own. I like. The color white was also taken deliberately - it seems to me that it is more suitable for this car.

Engine and automatic transmission. The mileage is now 1,700 km, the fuel consumption in a city with moderate traffic jams is 12 liters per 100 km. According to the BC, it can be seen that the consumption is falling, since in the first hundred it was 17 liters per 100 km. I like the work of the engine and automatic transmission in a pair, but I drive calmly, measuredly. I don’t press the gas into the floor, I don’t scoff at the car. With this driving style, there is a confident feeling that the power reserve is quite enough.

Salon. Here, of course, GM is great. Everything is convenient, everything is at hand. The landing is adjustable to suit any desire (you want it lower, you want it high). The seats are comfortable, even for me (height 188 cm, weight 120 kg). With all my dimensions, I am really comfortable. A son with a height of 180 cm rides behind me and does not feel any inconvenience either.

Suspension. Again, not for everybody. I would like a little softer, but then I need to put the 16th wheels, and appearance there is no desire to change. But on the move the car is good, it does not fall down in turns, the unevenness of the road passes well. I haven't felt all-wheel drive yet, but its device is the same as on Antara, so that's enough for me.

Ergonomics. The climate works without glitches and perfectly fulfills its functions. Everything is at hand and is exactly where you expect it. On-board computer - you need to figure it out, while there is no need for it. The standard audio system is enough for me.

The overview is great. I love the high seating position, so the seat is set high. The racks don't really bother me. But it is not very convenient to look back (small rear glass), but here's the driving experience different cars helps, after all 23 years of experience.

The owner drives an Opel Mokka 1.8 (140 HP) AT 4WD 2014.

For three years we have driven 80,000 km along the roads of Russia: from Karelia to Lake Baikal. It's okay for now. Passed all THAT. There are almost no problems. It rolls well, is stable (even in winter) and dynamic. Great car for traveling across the vastness of Russia. Moreover, it is quite economical. On the highway, 8 liters per hundred at 140 km / h.

The interior is warm and well ventilated. The headlights are normal and well regulated. Interior lighting and illumination of instruments and buttons are sufficient. Six speakers are more than enough for a small body. The seats are comfortable for any size, heating is pleasant and necessary for the cold weather of the Urals. Starts up in any frost, though I have auto heating.

There are also disadvantages, namely: fabric door trim (they get dirty), a low hanging front bumper (there were problems on Olkhon Island on Lake Baikal) and weak protection under the front bumper, which was already bursting all over from stones and collisions on the hard crust. The car is clearly designed for a normal road.

The trunk is small, but there are many different pockets and compartments for small items. In the first autumn, when warming up, the windshield cracked.

Review of Opel Mokka 1.8 (140 HP) with mechanics 2014

The ad for the coffee crossover, when it first hit the market, called for "Get out of the flow!" And many decided to break free. They even accepted pre-orders for it, the interest in the car was genuine. However, no one particularly managed to escape. Mokka reached Ukraine with almost a full complement of engines, including a 130-horsepower 1.7 turbodiesel - the only one from the line of engines capable of spurring an almost one and a half ton crossover.

We also got two petrol engines for 140 "horses": a 1.4-liter turbo engine and a good old Opelevsky 1.8-liter aspirated engine. The latter turned out to be more popular with us. Perhaps because it could be bought with a 6-speed manual or with an automatic transmission. Until the middle of 2014, the youngest was entitled only to the MCP.

Of the aesthetic troubles, only the peeling chrome of the exterior finish is noted, and even then not all. The interior trim and its resistance to stress are beyond criticism. The percentage of cheap plastics here is negligible. They also amicably praise the high seating position in the front, note sufficient comfort in the back and, as a rule, annoy the modest dimensions of the trunk.

When a truck rushes by ...

In general, you will not find serious complaints about the car on the network. Glitches do happen, of course. This is still Opel with all that it implies, but in general, we repeat, the children's ailments of the crossover were bypassed. He is praised for the overall positive background, the convenience of the front seats, excellent equipment, the quality of the original, but at the same time, ergonomic (a rarity for Opel) interior. Many are satisfied even with the dynamics, although sometimes it is not easy to “break out of the stream”. But the Japanese Aisin machine gun seems to be well deservedly respected. So far, there are no complaints about its reliability. As there are none of them, and to the work of both motors, but this is, rather, behind the youth of years.

People also like handling, although a specialist, having paid tribute to the directional stability that is not bad for a short-wheelbase car, will quickly find an empty steering wheel, and dangerous rolls caused by a high center of mass in corners, and just banal windage. Mokka flinches as a truck zips by. Insulation also leaves much to be desired.

Roll your lip

Well, since we have not yet been able to collect representative statistics of breakdowns, we will turn to the generalized shortcomings, again, collected on the owners' forums. Is a short line of motors a disadvantage? Rather, the problem today is in official services, which are rarely able to solve complex issues with electronics. One of the misfortunes of the crossover comes to mind here. The system likes to turn off the four-wheel drive at the most inopportune moment, about which an unpleasant warning lights up on the display. Because of this, many are sure that 4x4 works here arbitrarily, and the clutch is prone to overheating. Which is not entirely true.

An obvious disadvantage is the lowered front "lip", which collects snow in front of it in snowdrifts and quickly cracks against the curbs. Headlights fog up. And the adaptive AFL lighting adjustment system is often buggy, especially in cold weather with cold headlights. Almost all Mokka owners disagree with the windshield wipers. Frozen, they scratch the glass, and the hood edge prevents them from being lifted for cleaning. The search for a "technological position" (vertically in the middle) does not lead to anything.

Eventually

Recently, prices for Opel cars faltered in comparison with competitors. Today you can take a very good option at an affordable price. Maintenance, too, will not bring any special costs, but do not forget that Opel is able to greatly lose in price even in short periods of time. And Mokka is no exception.

Suspension

The suspension is somewhat stiff, and at high speeds (over 140 km / h) jumps are felt, which are quickly extinguished. It is believed that the suspension on the Mokka is one of the strongest in the class. And to "ushat" her up to 100 thousand kilometers, you need to try hard. However, you should not abuse its strength either. The car is designed for city driving.

Transmission

Over time, the machine exhibits losses in the transmission of torque through the liquid. In manual mode, delays are especially noticeable. With these settings, it is possible that Opel is saving its automatic transmission for a longer service life. Allowing to fully equalize the speed of rotation of the shafts, it gently shifts gears.

Engine

Motor 1.4 on idle not loaded, why warm it up after launch is a problem. Excessive condensation forms in the pan - it simply cannot evaporate. After 100 thousand km of run, the CPG and phase shifters may make noise, which will have to be changed. Therefore, we still recommend choosing a 1.8-liter engine.

I'll write right away: I practically don't understand cars, I can't even change the oil myself, so I won't use automotive terms and jargon phrases, because I just don't know them. I've always driven cars: Honda Civic, Ford focus, Audi A6. I live in a private sector, and every autumn I have to overcome a bumpy road with numerous holes. And lately, after heavy rains, I've been wading and making mud from clay (a couple of years ago a sewer was laid here). But when winter comes and cars make a track, which freezes after the rain, it becomes very difficult to leave. For this reason, my wife and I began to think about buying a crossover.

Considered models such as Renault Duster, Nissan terrano, Kia sportage and Ford Kuga... They were looking for a new car, not used. The last two options fell off because of the price. First, we settled on the new Duster. But somehow, by chance, I came across news about an accident in which Renault Duster got into and formed like a house of cards, while the second car was not badly damaged. This made me think about safety, and my wife was not attracted by the boring look of the Renault crossover.

After calculating the budget, gritting his teeth, we nevertheless decided to look for a little used one. After two months of active searches in Moscow, an Opel Mokka turned up.

The car was sold to an official dealer under the trade-in program. On examination, it turned out that the car is not a bit, there are small scratches on the bumpers and mirrors, the interior is clean. The condition pleased - we decided to buy.

So what we got: a 2013 car with only 43,000 km of mileage, a 1.8-liter petrol engine and a manual transmission. The package includes: climate control, heated front seats, steering wheel (for the first time I came across this marvelous, but, as I remember winter and driving with gloves, I think that this option will be to my liking), power windows for all doors, cruise control, radio tape recorder CD / MP3 with AUX-input, "fog lights", alloy wheels R18, cruise control and radio on the steering wheel, alarm, engine protection.

The body is gray. The front bumper was a little disappointing right away: it is rather low, almost like a regular one. passenger car, but there is a protection in the form of a rubber pad. Nevertheless, it is better not to drive up close to high curbs. Distance from ground to rear bumper is 19 cm. The wipers do not rise completely, the hood interferes - this is a minus.

The salon is very comfortable for those sitting in front. The plastic is pleasant to the touch, not like the Duster. There are many buttons on the center console, but it is not difficult to understand them. Silver inserts look great. Neon lights are crazy.

The monochrome monitor located in the center displays the name of the radio station, sound level, temperature and other data. The driver sits high, the visibility is good. When parking, you don't have to look in the salon mirror, it doesn't help much: the rear window is small, even in the Ford Focus there was more, so I focus on the side mirrors. The sound of the radio is good, six speakers. There are a bunch of all kinds of glove compartments and compartments. Under passenger seat a drawer is provided. The steering wheel is adjustable in height and reach. It is pleasant to the touch and is lined with leather. The armrest is not the most comfortable and at first interferes with gear shifting, but I'm used to it too, although in extreme cases it can be raised.

The seats in the back are for two, the three of them will already be cramped. The trunk turned out to be small: I tried to load a children's tricycle into it - it was not possible. Even a stroller when folded was able to fit only after I detached and removed the lid in the side shelf of the trunk. Backseat folds into a flat floor. Noise isolation is average. I drove a 2009 Audi A6 for six months - I didn't notice the difference in the noise level between these cars, but compared to the Focus it feels good.

Opel has repeatedly stated its desire to create a full-fledged line of cars, which is why in 2012 the first subcompact city crossover Opel Mokka appeared. GM Gamma II platform on which it is built new car, was already used by the designers of General Motors during the design Chevrolet aveo third generation. The same platform is used on another crossover that has a lot in common with the Mokka - the Chevrolet Tracker. German racing driver Joachim Winkelhock took part in the development of the platform for the model. Therefore, we can say that the Opel Mokka has got a kind of sporty character.

A car from Opel differs from its counterparts from other manufacturers by a wide range of options. According to the documents, this compact crossover, but in fact the volume luggage compartment much more than competitors. What does this mean? The spacious interior and trunk tells us that the car is ideal not only for everyday city trips, but also for long trips with the whole family. Reliable power units are one of the advantages of the model. It is about what the resource of the Opel Mokka engine is in the article.

Powertrain line

In Russia, the crossover is available with three different gasoline engines and two transmission options. The car is distinguished by good dynamic performance due to the petrol 1.8-liter engine with 140 "horses" and the torque of 178 Nm at 6300 rpm. The diesel 1.7-liter engine also provides high productivity crossover, contributes to the output of power in 130 Horse power and produces a torque equal to 300 Nm at 2500 rpm.

Both motors are aggregated by a manual 5-speed gearbox, which contributes to the car's economy when driving around the city. Automatic all-wheel drive plays a significant role in fuel economy. When there is no need for a 4x4 formula, for example, within a city, Mokka is operated by front wheel drive- additional fuel economy.

So the gamut power units model has the following installation options:

  • a petrol 1.4-liter engine with 140 horsepower mated to a 6-speed gearbox, direct fuel injection and a turbocharger in the intake manifold;
  • a diesel 1.7-liter engine with 130 forces with a 16-valve timing and a direct fuel injection system;
  • naturally aspirated 1.8-liter engine with 16-valve timing and fuel injection technology.

The 1.4-liter petrol engine provides the crossover with maximum dynamism - acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just 9.9 seconds. The suspension is adapted to Russian operating conditions - an independent spring suspension is installed in the front, semi-independent at the rear. The brakes are front, like the rear, disc, ventilated. Generally, great car for daily comfortable trips around the city.

The engine with a working volume of 1.4 liters with a power indicator of 140 forces received the marking - A14NET. This is a fairly new power unit, since it was first installed on cars of the General Motors family in 2010. A distinctive feature of the engine is the presence of turbocharging at a relatively small volume. A resource-intensive chain serves as a timing drive, serving over a distance of 100-120 thousand kilometers. This motor is equipped with hydraulic compensators, which frees the driver from the need to periodically adjust the thermal clearances. In addition to the Opel Mokka, the A14NET power unit is also equipped with such cars as the Opel Astra and Astra GTC.

The main drawback of the engine is considered a chronic disease typical of the "opel" engine - leaks of engine oil through the valve cover gasket at an early stage of the machine's operation. At the same time, even the owners of new cars that have not yet passed the running-in stage run the risk of coming face to face with this ailment, and there is nothing left but to disassemble new engine and change the gasket. Many especially novice drivers are frightened by the sound of the A14NET - it is characterized by diesel clatter, which is due to the presence of hydraulic lifters. Often, the pump starts to whistle ahead of time - it is best to replace it immediately and not delay the repair, especially since the cost of replacing it is relatively small. In general, a good, original power unit, not without flaws, the average resource of the Opel Mokka 1.4 engine is 350 thousand kilometers.

The European branch of General Motors, with the support of Japanese designers, has developed a diesel power unit with a displacement of 1.7 liters and a capacity of 130 horsepower. The motor was used in a number of Opel cars - from Corsa to Vectra, and later on Cruze and Mokka. How long does this motor run? Much depends on the specifics of the operation of the crossover with diesel engine, timeliness and quality of service.

The engine received a turbine, which, by the way, is not among the most reliable units. power plant... She "walks" on average 250-300 thousand kilometers, after which it requires renovation and repair. What kind weak spots installation? These are weak rubber seals, crumbling ahead of time, which leads to the leakage of the working fluids of the motor outside. It is worth noting that these same shortcomings are inherent in many old engines from General Motors.

The A18XER motor is, in fact, an exact copy of the Z18XER, but with one difference - it was "squeezed" by the Euro-5 economy standards. Factory index F18D4, installed under the hood of the car Chevrolet cruze... Structurally, this engine is an in-line "four" with a 16-valve cylinder head. The variable valve timing system is installed on both shafts. Similar engineering solution can be attributed to the advantages of the power unit, since the A18XER is characterized by high efficiency, power and an acceptable level of fuel consumption.

But it often happens that the solenoid valve fails prematurely. Most often, the first problems begin at the turn of 100 thousand kilometers. If a problem is found, the valve must be replaced. In some cases, banal cleaning helps. But if the procedure did not bring the desired effect, only a replacement. A18XER is equipped with a reliable timing belt with a resource of more than 120 thousand kilometers. The engine differs from the previous developments of the General Motors concern by the presence of a receiver with a variable length and the absence of an EGR valve, which can also be attributed to the obvious advantages of the engine. There are no hydraulic expansion joints, which means that the driver will have to independently adjust thermal clearances after every 100 thousand kilometers.

The adjustment of the clearances in the A18XER is carried out by the selection of tared glasses. Often, the owners note how the engine starts to run after the first 100 thousand km. The reason may be a failed ignition module, which in A18XER rarely "lives" longer than 90-100 thousand km. These are the main malfunctions that may be encountered Opel owner Mokka with A18XER installed at the turn of the first 100-150 thousand kilometers. On average, the resource is 360 thousand, and the figure strongly depends on the quality of service and operation of the car.

Opel Mokka engine resource according to owner reviews

As the practice of operating the Opel Mokka shows, the main difficulties that await the owner at the first stages are turbine malfunctions in the case of a tubodiesel modification, problems with a particulate filter and EGR valve, leaks of engine working fluids outward. The maximum possible resource depends on how quickly and efficiently the owner of the crossover will eliminate these troubles. It is fair to say that the aforementioned problems are common to many modern motors, both new and already used. Minor breakdowns are repaired relatively inexpensively, while serious repairs that can grow from a banal trifle will be much more expensive. What other problems can be felt during the operation of the Opel Mokka? Further in the reviews of car owners.

A14NET 1.4

  1. Maxim, Stavropol. I have a 2012 car with a 1.4L A14NET engine. I like the crossover, it pleases and reliable motor... Driving an Opel Mokka covered 140 thousand kilometers, recently replaced the timing chain, which served 120,000 km. The motor practically did not deliver any problems throughout the entire frontier of operation. The turbocharged version of the car, the dynamics are sufficient for normal operation within the city. I change the oil every 7,500 kilometers, I prefer to fill in GM 5W30 Dexos, which the manufacturer recommends to use. I am sure that with the proper attitude to the car, the engine will fully exhaust its resource, which is much more than 300,000 kilometers.
  2. Igor, Tula. In 2014, he acquired an Opel Mokka with a 1.4-liter turbocharged A14NET engine. Now the odometer shows a mileage of 80 thousand kilometers. I have not even changed the timing chain in 4 years of operation, nothing rings, no knocks, no rpm float, no troit. I am completely satisfied with the purchase made and I don’t regret the money spent - I took a new car from the salon, it really is worth the money. I recommend that all crossover owners monitor the condition of the air system - change filters regularly and do not neglect the passage of MOT. Then there will be no problems with your car.
  3. Andrey, Moscow. The A14NET engine has proven itself well on the Opel Astra, I know several drivers who speak flatteringly about this car. At the very Opel Mokka in 2015, the resource is nothing at all - 60 thousand kilometers. I practically did not touch the engine, everything is new, I have not yet changed the timing drive, pump, rollers - everything is new. More than once I heard people say that "Opel" motors "run" 200,000 km - this is absolutely not the case. I admit that any engine, even the most reliable one, can be put down even for 50,000 km, but if you approach it wisely, the installation will last more than 300,000 kilometers.

The declared 350 thousand kilometers resource actually takes place, but in practice, owners of a crossover with an A14NET engine often face other figures. The resource of the motor is in correlation with the timeliness of the scheduled maintenance and the quality of service of the machine. Provided that the car is filled with high-quality fuel and the regular replacement of the lubricant recommended by the manufacturer, the engine resource will be fully depleted.

A17DTS 1.7

  1. Mikhail, Novosibirsk. I don't want to jinx it, but for now diesel engine A17DTS surpasses all my even wildest expectations. What I want to note first of all is the level of fuel consumption - only 6 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km, which is good news. Comfortable fit, comfortable interior, high-quality suspension, the steering wheel does not hit, there are no vibrations, the car stably and confidently holds the road. So far, I have driven 50,000 kilometers, the engine works without problems in any modes, the manual transmission also does not cause problems. I am sure that more than 300,000 kilometers will pass with quality service.
  2. Oleg, Perm. Motors that have traveled 500,000 kilometers are not uncommon. I myself am familiar with the drivers, whose Opels passed half a million without significant breakdowns, and after that the engines were also capitalized. 2016 A17DTS turbo diesel car, still in perfect condition, and the power unit is as good as new. I try to change the filters and candles after 15,000 km, the oil is 7,500 km, I fill in only the original lubricant. The ignition coil module, which Opel owners often sin on, is "native" and did not cause problems. Highly quality car, but pay attention to the condition of the diesel fuel, which you pour into the car's gas tank.
  3. Stanislav, Chita. Machine in 2013, A17DTS diesel engine with turbine + manual transmission. As the owner treats the driver, so she treats him. I am undergoing manufacturer-regulated maintenance and am not running the engine at maximum speed. In the end, no problem. An acquaintance also has an Opel Mokka, so already for 70 thousand kilometers he managed to put the engine down.

The diesel 1.7-liter engine is demanding on the quality of the fuel, which is typical of all modern installations powered by diesel fuel. The motor is not perfect, but resource-intensive and reliable. Ideally, the resource of the Opel Mokka 1.7 engine is 350-380 thousand km, on average, the installation serves for 300 thousand km without serious breakdowns.

A18XER 1.8

  1. Sergey, Cheboksary. I own Opel Mokka 1.8 since 2013, during this time the mileage was 100 thousand kilometers. I change the oil after 8-10 thousand km. I exclusively use Mobil 0W40, which makes the A18XER quieter, smoother and more fuel efficient than others engine oils... Oil does not "eat" - pour from replacement to replacement. The belt served 100 tyk, which is slightly less than the maximum resource of the timing drive, however, with my driving style this is normal, since I often twist the engine a lot. AI-95 gasoline and nothing else. I am completely satisfied with the car, the engine, surprisingly, does not cause problems - the flow rate is normal, nothing flows or leaks. In general, I recommend this modification of the crossover to everyone, the resource of 300-350 thousand km is more than real.
  2. Ilya, Tyumen. 2013 Opel Mokka, 1.8-liter A18XER engine, 200 thousand km mileage, thermostat changed, corrugation exhaust pipe burned out even with a run of 90 thousand km. At the service they said that they refueled unsuccessfully, and in general, this engine is sensitive to the quality of fuel, so refuel only at proven and certified gas stations. I myself fill in AI-95, mainly Lukoil.
  3. Egor, Moscow. As for me, the most serious problem of the A18XER engine is a weak ignition module. I almost immediately replaced it, since the "native" one went out of order literally a year later, and I took a new car from the salon. The Opel Mokka is ideal for Moscow - the suspension is energy-intensive, the fuel consumption is normal, it doesn't eat much, I change the oil after 7-8 thousand km, I had no problems finding the GM 5W30 Dexos. Go through MOT in time and change the lubricant, then the phase regulators will live for a long time, and the motor as a whole will not cause problems.

The A18XER is one of the most reliable units in the Opel Mokka powertrain range. The resource of the motor, according to the owners, is 350-360 thousand kilometers.

We list the "sores" of the most compact and most popular Opel crossover in Russia, which left our market along with other models of this deutsche mark shortly after appearing.

Released on the world, including the Russian car market, in the fall of 2012, the Opel Mokka crossover did not have any special talents. However, it appeared at the right time - at the height of fashion for small SUVs. The attractive appearance of the new car of the democratic German brand, popular in our country, was quite enough to win the hearts of Russian buyers and customers.

Most of them, who rarely left the asphalt and generally the city limits, did not care that the Mokka had a small ground clearance, a very conventional four-wheel drive and a cramped interior.

Despite all this, the small crossover quickly gained popularity and in the first full year of sales in Russia became the second most popular model of Opel after the Astra. And a year later, he was already a bestseller of the brand and was included in the Top 10 of the most popular compact crooks in our country. However, the incredible success of the model against the background of a general drop in Opel sales in our country was interrupted by his sudden departure from Russia. Nevertheless, in a little over three years, Russian official dealers managed to sell almost 45,000 SUVs, many of which are now available on the secondary market at fairly attractive prices.

Background

The first compact crossover of the Opel brand under the “coffee” name Mokka, located in the brand's model line one step below the “Antara”, was first presented to the public in the spring of 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show. The model was built on the same global Jem Gamma II platform as the Chevrolet Aveo, as well as the last two generations of small Spark hatchbacks. The SUV went on sale in Europe in early October of the same year. In the UK, the car is known under the name Vauxhall Mokka, and in North America and China in a revised form as the Buick Encore.

Also, the model has a "twin brother" - Chevrolet Trax. He's Holden Trax. Initially, the SUV was produced at GM Korea's facilities in South Korea. But in the fall of 2014, due to the strong demand for the Mocca, Opel also launched production of a crossover at a plant in Zaragoza, Spain. The SUV was updated in 2016, that is, after the cessation of sales in Russia. It received the name Mokka X and a sportier look. In particular, new bumpers, changed lighting equipment, revised interior and instrument cluster as well as a new 152-strong Gas engine 1.4.

"Resale"

The selection of used Opel Mokka crossovers sold in our country for more than three years is not so small. In addition to three engine options, two types of gearboxes, used cars can have both front-wheel drive (50%) and four-wheel drive (50%). Moreover, both of them are equally divided. However, four-wheel drive can only be obtained on a gasoline "Mokka". In combination with mechanics, all-wheel drive was available on cars with a turbo engine, and with automatic transmission - only with "aspirated".

SUVs with a 6-speed automatic transmission (54%) are found slightly more than with 5- and 6-speed manual transmissions (46%). The overwhelming majority of Opel Mokka in the secondary market - with naturally aspirated 140-horsepower petrol "four" 1.8 (75%). Cars with a 1.4 turbo engine of the same power are three times less (24%). And with a 130-horsepower 1.7 diesel engine under the hood, there are units on sale (1%). After all, such crossovers were the most expensive. They were offered to customers only with a gun and only in the top-end Cosmo configuration.

Body

The very first "Mokkam" brought to Russia recently turned 5 years old. You should not expect any serious problems from a galvanized and well-painted crossover body, unless the car was in an accident. Local foci of corrosion can appear only in places of paint chips on the hood, fenders, above the windshield and in the lower part of the doors. Do not be alarmed by the red smudges under the license plate cover on the tailgate.

The culprits of their appearance are small penny self-tapping screws for attaching a decorative chrome strip on the back. It's easy to change them. By the way, the chrome on this pad for 7,100 rubles peels off over time in the first place. Then the covering of the fog light framing is bubbling at 1400 rubles per front bumper... Less often, chrome peels off from a false radiator grille for 4200 rubles. The problem of bursting windshields, inherent in Opel models from the 2000s, has not spared the Mokka either.

The windshield can crack both from temperature differences in the passenger compartment and on the street, and from falling stones from under the wheels of other road users. The new original costs more than 30,000 rubles. But, having changed it more than once, SUV owners usually prefer more durable counterparts from 8,000 to 12,000 rubles. Not the most durable in "Mokka" and lighting equipment. Head optics plastic for 10,200 rubles for a conventional headlamp and 39,200 rubles for xenon peels off over time, and taillights 15,000 rubles each sometimes crack.

Engines

In Russia, the Opel Mokka was officially sold with only three rather powerful engines, well known from the Astra J and Chevrolet Cruze. These are 140-horsepower in-line petrol "fours": atmospheric 1.8 (А18XER) and turbocharged 1.4 (А14NET). And also the reliable 130-horsepower diesel 1.7 (A17DTS) developed by Isuzu engineers. The time-tested naturally aspirated 1.8 has proven itself well under the hood of the Opel Astra H. This engine with a timing belt drive with a low-noise belt for 2,500 rubles, which should be changed after 120,000 km with two rollers for 4,800 rubles, is demanding on the purity of the engine oil.

Failure to replace it regularly can undermine the health of the variable valve timing system (CVCP). If it's not okay, the engine rattles like a diesel. By the way, rare on Russian market diesel "Mokki", judging by the reviews of the owners, is very good, quite reliable and quite economical. The key to the success of its long and problem-free operation is high-quality fuel at proven gas stations and replacement fuel filter from 1600 rubles every 30,000 km or 2 years of operation. This engine, like other diesel engines, does not like long driving in traffic jams. It can cause failures in the EGR valve for 18,000 rubles.

"Turbo four" 1.4 with a timing chain for 2000 rubles - the third most reliable in the list of Mokki motors. With high-quality fuel and qualified service, this modern 16-valve valve can last up to major repairs of at least 150,000, or even 200,000 km. Replacements during the operation of the "turbo four" may require: a mass air flow sensor from 7400 rubles, a clogged adsorber valve costing 3000 rubles or a pump for 7900 rubles. If the turbine fails, prepare at least 37,300 rubles for a new one.

Checkpoint

Not all of the "Mokka" gearboxes were received from "Astra". Instead of the 5-speed manual gearbox F17, the gasoline "atmospheric" crossover received a D16 mechanics with the same number of steps. But the 6-speed M32 is the same as that of the Opel hatches. When choosing a car from the first, pay attention to the integrity of the oil seals and gaskets - this box sometimes suffers from oil leaks. She, like the second, because of his low level there are problems with bearings from 400 rubles, synchronizers for 4500-5000 rubles and with a differential.

So do not miss extraneous hums, noises and vibrations in the box during a test drive and pay attention to the clarity of the gears. Despite their shortcomings, both mechanical boxes"Mokki" is still more reliable than the 6-band automatic GM 6T40 also from "Astra". In addition, he is thoughtful and unhurried. In order for the automatic transmission to work better, the oil in it should be changed more often than the prescribed 50,000 km. The least problematic are the modernized machines on machines no older than 2014.

They should not overheat, and the operation of the torque converter should not cause any complaints. The all-wheel drive transmission with electronically controlled multi-plate Borg Warner clutch is reliable and does not cause concern. Unless the previous owner climbed into the mud by car and drove through deep puddles, considering the "Mokka" an SUV. In this case, both the electronic unit of the clutch under the bottom for 14,900 rubles and the clutch itself for 80,000 rubles may require repair or replacement.

Rest

Undercarriage "Mokki" without major problems and losses serves at least 100,000 km. Before this run, replacement may require front shock absorbers for 5700 rubles and stabilizer struts from 800 rubles. Ball joints for 1300 rubles and wheel bearings for 3100 rubles are often nursed on a crossover for a little more than 30,000 km. Brake pads from 900 rubles do not often live up to 50,000 km. But the brake discs for 3800 rubles are twice as long. With the electrics, the Opel Mokka is doing worse.

Moreover, often problems are with equipment, on which the operation of the engine directly depends. For example, the ignition module for 12,150 rubles for gasoline versions of the SUV sometimes starts to junk after 60,000 km. Not every "Mokka" travels more than 100,000 km with the same generator, which costs 25,800 rubles. At the same mileage, you may have to change the radiator fans for 12,200 rubles due to the low resource of their bearings. Well, the ABS sensors on the front wheels can “die” every 50,000 km from moisture ingress with enviable regularity.

How much?

Prices for used "Mokki" start in Russia from about 580,000 rubles for early 2012 copies with a basic atmospheric gasoline engine 1.8, 5-speed mechanics, front-wheel drive and mileage up to 150,000 - 180,000 km. Crossovers with a 1.4 turbo engine can be found a little more expensive - from 600,000 rubles. And for diesel options their current owners are asking for a minimum of 790,000 rubles.

All-wheel drive Opel Mokka with mechanics and automatic are offered from about 620,000 rubles and more. The freshest crossovers sold from dealer remnants in 2015 are estimated at a maximum of 1,100,000 rubles. Most often these are cars in the top-end Cosmo configuration with leather interior, rich equipment, all-wheel drive and automatic transmission. Their mileage usually does not exceed 50,000 km.

Our choice

A small attractive Opel Mokka with mileage, despite the presence of some problems and "sores", can be a good purchase. After all, a dynamic, topical looking crossover with a striking appearance, decent equipment and decent quality of interior trim at about the price of the new Solaris is an excellent offer. Choosing such a car, it is better to give preference to the version with the least problematic combination of gasoline "aspirated" 1.8 and mechanics.

It is quite possible to find such a crossover in good condition with a range of up to 100,000 km and one owner in a TCP for about 700,000 rubles. If you definitely need a crossover with an automatic transmission, then it is also better to look for it with this engine and preferably no older than 2014. But the cost of such a car will already be noticeably more expensive. Overpay for automatic transmission will have at least 50,000 - 100,000 rubles. But on the other hand, you will get a car not only with automatic transmission, but also with an automatically connected all-wheel drive.
