Ford cars are in demand in our market. The products have won love among consumers for their reliability, simplicity and comfort. Today every Ford model sold by authorized dealer, optionally equipped with an automatic transmission.

Automatic transmission is a popular type of transmission among motorists, the transmission has managed to occupy the right niche, and the demand for it is constantly growing. Among the machines installed on the company's cars, the 6F35 automatic transmission is considered a successful model. In our region, the unit is known for Ford Kuga, Mondeo and Focus. Structurally, the box has been worked out and tested, however, the 6F35 automatic transmission has problems.

Box description 6F35

6F35 automatic transmission, this is a joint project Ford companies and GM, which began in 2002. Structurally, the product corresponds to its predecessor, the box GM 6T40 (45), from which the mechanics were taken. Distinctive features of 6F35 are electrics, outputs designed for all kinds of vehicle layouts and pallets.

Automatic transmissions are produced in America at Ford factories located in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Some components are made and assembled in GM factories.

Since 2008, the box has been installed on cars with front and four-wheel drive, American firm Ford and Japanese Mazda... The machines used on cars with a power plant of less than 2.5 liters differ in comparison with the machines used on cars with a 3-liter engine.

The automatic transmission 6F35 is unified, built on a modular basis, the automatic transmission units are changed in blocks. The method is borrowed from the early 6F50 model (55).

In 2012, the design of the product underwent changes, the electrical and hydraulic components of the box began to differ. Some components of the mechanism installed on vehicles in 2013 ceased to be suitable for early modifications. The second generation of the box received the index "E" in the marking and became known as 6F35E.

6F35 box problems

There are complaints from auto owners of Ford Mondeo and Ford Kuga cars. Symptoms of breakdowns appear in the form of increased pauses when shifting gears from second to third. Just as often, switching the selector from position R to D is accompanied by bumps, noise, and the inclusion of a warning light on the dashboard. Most of the complaints are related to cars in which automatic transmissions are operated in tandem with a power plant with a volume of 2.5 liters (150 hp).

The disadvantages of the box, one way or another, are associated with the wrong driving style, control settings, and oil. Automatic transmission 6F35, resource, level and purity of the fluid, which are interconnected, does not tolerate loads on cold lubrication. It is necessary to warm up the 6F35 automatic transmission in winter, otherwise premature repairs cannot be avoided.

On the other hand, dynamic driving overheats the transmission, which leads to early aging of the oil. Old oil will wear out the box gaskets and seals. As a result, after a run of 30-40 thousand kilometers, there is insufficient pressure transmission fluid in the nodes. This will prematurely wear out the valve plate and solenoids.

Failure to resolve the issue with a drop in oil pressure leads to slippage and wear of the clutches of the hydraulic transformer. Replacement of worn parts, hydraulic block, solenoids, oil seals and pump bushings is required.

The lifespan of the automatic transmission depends, among other things, on the setting of the control module. The first boxes came out with settings that suggested aggressive driving... This increased efficiency and reduced fuel consumption. However, I had to pay with the resource of the box and early failure. Products, late release, were placed in a rigid framework that limited the driver and did not allow the hydraulic block and the box transformer to fail.

Replacing transmission fluid in automatic transmission 6F35

Oil change in automatic transmission 6F35 Ford Kuga depends on the operating conditions of the car. In standard operation, implying driving on asphalt, the fluid changes after every 45 thousand kilometers. If the car was operated at subzero temperatures, experienced slippage, was subjected to an aggressive driving style, was used as a traction vehicle, etc., the replacement is carried out after every 20 thousand kilometers.

The need for an oil change can be determined by the degree of wear. When performing this operation, they are guided by the color, smell, structure of the liquid. The condition of the oil is assessed on a cold and hot box. When checking with a hot automatic transmission, it is recommended to drive 2-3 kilometers in order to raise the sediment from the bottom. Normal oil, red in color, no burning smell. The presence of chips, a burning smell or a black color of the liquid indicates the need for urgent replacement, an insufficient level of liquid in the box is unacceptable.

Possible causes of leaks:

  • Strong wear of the box shafts;
  • Worn box seals;
  • Beating input shaft boxes;
  • Aging of the box seal;
  • Insufficient level of tightening of the box fixing bolts;
  • Violation of the sealant layer;
  • Premature wear of the box valve plate;
  • Clogged channels and box plungers;
  • Overheating and, as a result, wear of units and parts of the box.

When choosing a transmission fluid in a box, follow the manufacturer's recommendations. For Ford vehicles, the native oil is ATF of the Mercon type specification. For Ford Kuga, oil substitutes are also used that are more expensive, for example: Motorcraft XT 10 QLV. For a complete replacement, 8-9 liters of fluid will be required.

With a partial oil change in the automatic transmission 6F35 Ford Kuga independently, perform the following actions:

  • Warm up the box after driving 4-5 kilometers, testing all switching modes;
  • Place motor vehicle exactly on an overpass, or a pit, move the gearbox selector to the "N" position;
  • Unscrew the drain plug and drain the waste liquid into a previously prepared container. Check if there are sawdust or metal inclusions in the liquid, their presence requires contacting the service for further possible repair;
  • Install the drain plug in place, using a wrench with a pressure gauge, check the tightening torque, equal to 12 Nm;
  • Open the hood, unscrew filler plug boxes. Pour a new transmission fluid through the filler hole, with a volume equal to the volume of the drained used fluid, approximately 3 liters;
  • Screw on the plug, turn on power plant car. Let the engine run for 3-5 minutes, move the switch selector to all positions with a pause of a few seconds in each of the modes;
  • Repeat the procedure for draining and filling new oil 2-3 times, this will maximize the cleaning of the system from impurities and old fluid;
  • Finally replacing the fluid and check the temperature of the lubricant;
  • Check the fluid level in the box for compliance with the required rate;
  • Check box and seals for fluid leaks.

When checking the oil level, remember that there is no dipstick on the 6F35 box, check the transmission fluid level using a check plug. This should be done regularly, after warming up the box after driving ten kilometers.

The oil filter is installed inside the box; the sump is removed for removal. The filter element is changed in case of increased mileage and with each removal of the box pallet.

A complete oil change in the box is carried out at a service station equipped with special stands for the procedure. A single drain and fill of oil will renew the fluid by 30%. The partial oil change described above is sufficient, taking into account the regular carrying out and the short period of operation of the box between replacements.

6F35 box service

The 6F35 box is not problematic, as a rule, the owner who misuses the device becomes the cause of breakdowns. Correct use of the box and oil change, according to the mileage, guarantees the operation of the product over 150,000 km without problems.

Diagnostics of the box is carried out in the case of:

  • Extraneous noises, vibrations, crackling in the box are heard;
  • Incorrect gear shifting;
  • The gears of the box do not switch at all;
  • Drop in the oil level of the box, change in color, smell, consistency.

The symptoms listed above require immediate attention to service center for the purpose of diagnostics and troubleshooting.

To prevent premature breakdowns of the product and extend the service life, the goal of the planned activities carried out in accordance with the established technical regulations for the box of the Ford Kuga car. The work is carried out at specially equipped stations, by trained personnel using special equipment.

The 6F35 gearbox installed on the Ford Kuga is a reliable and economical unit. Compared to other six-speed units, this model is considered a successful box. Subject to full compliance with the operating and maintenance rules, the service life of the product corresponds to the period established by the manufacturer.

Changing the oil in the gearbox is much less frequent than changing the oil in the crankcase of a car. Oil wear is mainly associated with thermal and mechanical stress, as well as contamination of the oil by friction products of metals. It is worth noting that the native branded oil approved by the "Ford" concern is intended to work throughout the entire life of the vehicle. This takes into account the relatively benign operating conditions, in addition, the service life of a car in the United States rarely exceeds 7 years (the standard amortization period of a passenger car).

Causes and frequency

Vehicle operation for more than 7 years, and / or intensive operation in severe weather conditions, requires an oil change. In addition, the oil is changed during the repair of the automatic transmission or in the course of eliminating the oil leak. The reason for the oil leak from the automatic transmission can be mechanical damage at high loads, a defective gasket between the parts of the automatic transmission case, poor fit of parts, etc. After each oil change, regardless of the reason for the change, the mileage until the next oil change is reduced. This is due to the natural wear of the rubbing parts, as well as the running-in of new parts.

In practice, for the entire period of operation of "Ford Kuga", the oil change in the automatic transmission takes place 2-4 times. Fresh, clean oil in automatic transmissions is much more important than in manual transmissions, and / or large gearboxes of heavy equipment, which is associated with a lower margin of safety and a large number of moving parts of high manufacturing accuracy.

When to change the oil

The wear of lubricants is contamination by friction products and other mechanical impurities. Other reasons are associated with oxidation and destruction of molecules. The main cause of oil wear in automatic transmissions is contamination by friction products.
The classic methods for diagnosing oil quality are the color and smell of the oil. The odor of different batches of oil differs markedly, in addition, the shades of odor may depend on the duration of storage of the oil in polymer containers (contamination with polymer decomposition products). Besides, smell is a very subjective criterion.

More accurately, you can make an assessment by the color of the oil and the presence of mechanical impurities of metal shavings. It is most convenient to check the oil when checking the oil level on a cold and hot automatic transmission (heating occurs due to friction when the car is moving). During the operation of the automatic transmission, all friction products are distributed in the volume of oil. The photo shows the color of fresh ATF oil, oil after 500 km of run, and after 80 thousand km.

Oil contaminated by friction products cannot properly perform any of the functions assigned to it: friction increases, abrasive wear of surfaces accelerates, a suspension of solid particles appears, clogging the clutch nodes of thin parts, etc. Particular attention should be paid to the presence of thin metal shavings in the oil, which indicates severe wear of individual parts, which may be the result of a breakdown and / or an incorrectly installed part.
The color of the oil for the automatic transmission "Ford Kuga" allows not only to distinguish between the brands of oils, but also helps to find out in case of a leak, from which system the fluid is. For example, oil in automatic transmission and power steering has a red tint, antifreeze is green, oil in an internal combustion engine has a yellowish tint.
The most common reason for changing the oil in the automatic transmission "Ford Kuga" is oil leaks. Oil leakage from automatic transmission can be caused by one or more of the following reasons:

  • wear on the surfaces of the shafts, which leads to a gap between the shaft and the sealing element;
  • wear of automatic transmission oil seals;
  • play in the input shaft of the automatic transmission;
  • wear of the automatic transmission sealing element and the speedometer drive shaft;
  • loosening of the bolts that ensure the connection of parts of the automatic transmission case;
  • damage to the sealing layer in the joints between the following parts of the automatic transmission: pallet, automatic transmission housing, clutch housing, crankcase, etc.

Oil leakage from the automatic transmission entails accelerated wear of all moving parts of the automatic transmission, in addition, oil can get into the clutch, which violates the conditions of its operation. Diagnosis of oil leakage is carried out by visual inspection, as well as by periodically checking the oil level in the automatic transmission. the check is carried out for two risks min and max with hot oil, and for two lower risks min and max, for an oil temperature below 25 * С.

The most common faults of the "Ford Kuga" automatic transmission. associated with oil leakage from the gearbox:

  • the valve body wears out and becomes unusable;
  • plungers and channels of the valve body are clogged with mechanical particles, which leads to a shortage of oil in the packages and provokes wear of the sleeve, rubbing parts of the pump, etc.;
  • rubberized pistons, thrust discs, clutch drum, etc; overheat and burn out;
  • the steel discs of the gearbox overheat and wear out quickly.

Change of oil. Instructions

It is best to choose a fully synthetic oil, since it retains its properties more stable, in addition, synthetic oils have a lower viscosity with a higher covering ability, all synthetic oils are more resistant to thermal and oxidative degradation than mineral oils.

Synthetic oils for automatic transmissions of Ford Kuga are sometimes called "irreplaceable", since, this oil filled in by the manufacturer for the entire service life of the car. Unlike mineral oils, high-quality synthetic oil practically does not lose its properties during 4-7 years of operation, but it does not protect against the accumulation of friction products. If the automatic transmission has been operated for some time in conditions of lack of oil, it is necessary to check the degree of contamination of the oil, and, if necessary, replace it.

Distinguish between partial and complete oil change in the automatic transmission "Ford Kuga"

Partial oil change in automatic transmission "Ford Kuga" can easily be done by yourself. To do this, unscrew the drain plug on the sump of the automatic transmission crankcase, having previously fixed the car on the overpass, and collect the oil in a container for further disposal. With a simple drain, only 25-40% of the total oil volume flows out, the remaining 60-75% remain in the torque converter, so this can be called not a replacement, but an update. To completely update the oil in the Ford Kuga automatic transmission in this way, 2-3 oil changes are required.

Sequence of actions for partial replacement oils in the Ford Kuga automatic transmission box according to the simplified scheme:

"THIS INFORMATION IS BEING UPDATED"

A complete oil change in the Ford Kuga automatic transmission is carried out by pumping oil through the automatic transmission using a special installation available in the car service. In this case, a noticeably larger amount of oil is required than is needed for a partial oil change. One flushing takes one and a half or even double the volume of fresh oil. In terms of cost, a complete oil change in a car service is more expensive than a partial oil change, but a new portion of oil works longer due to a more complete washout of friction products from the automatic transmission.

Filling with oil is carried out through the technological filler hole (at the bottom of the plug of this hole there is an oil level dipstick). Using the dipstick, we control the oil level in the automatic transmission, usually when it is cold. After changing the oil in the automatic transmission, we clarify its level after driving 10-20 km, and when the automatic transmission is already warmed up, we check the oil level. If necessary, add oil to the level. The frequency of oil changes depends not only on the mileage, but also on the nature of driving a Ford Kuga. You should be guided not by the recommended mileage, but by the degree of contamination of the oil with mechanical impurities, systematically checking its frequency visually.

The most stable part of the car is the gearbox. Repair of this element is extremely rare. But this does not mean that the gearbox does not need proper care.

Like any other mechanism, all parts of the manual transmission are subject to friction during operation. To reduce the friction of all elements, attention should be paid to the quality of the lubricant and its volume in the Ford Kuga car. Gears, shafts and other gearbox components are optimally lubricated by transmission oil. With constant friction, which is accompanied by thermal effects, the protective function of the transmission additives is reduced. In the process of wear of parts, the smallest particles often come off, remaining in the lubricant.
Under the influence of negative processes in the gearbox, it is necessary to urgently replace the transmission fluid by contacting specialists or on your own.

Functions of oil in manual transmission in a car

Before the shift lubricant, should you decide what product to fill the gearbox with? While the car is moving, the gears, bearings and shafts of the manual transmission are in contact with each other. The transmission fluid resists shock and friction.

The oil removes metal dirt, dust, rust, heat from the mechanical components, which appear in the process of friction. For the care of the gearbox in difficult operating conditions, special mixtures with additives have been developed. Thanks to these additives, the service life of the transmission increases, while maintaining its properties for a long time.

Every motorist tries to prolong the operation of a manual transmission. Contrary to the opinions that mechanical box there is no need to change the oil, it is worth doing it periodically. For smooth operation car, changing the oil in the manual transmission on the Ford Kuga is necessary when the mileage is 100 thousand km.

A manual transmission requires much less attention than an automatic transmission. But, nevertheless, even the mechanical unit begins to make noise over time, gear shifting becomes poor. With an insufficient transmission level, the lubrication of the rubbing elements deteriorates. Dry friction and thermal expansion result in noise and howling as the machine moves. To avoid problems in the operation of the gearbox and the car in general, you should periodically check the fluid level.

How to change the oil in a manual transmission on a Ford Kuga yourself?

The car owner must remember that even a manual transmission can fail over time. Serious damage can be avoided by observing the manufacturer's instructions for operating the car and manual transmission.
Understand that need to replace the lubricating fluid in the manual transmission, you can use the following featured:

  • High fuel costs.
  • Vibration, transmission noise.
  • Poor fluid quality due to leakage.
  • Poor powertrain strength.
  • It is impossible to spin the engine up to the maximum rate.

Before performing the process of changing the lubricant, careful preparation is required for changing the oil in the manual transmission in Ford Kuga, subject to the timing of its change. The manufacturer of the Ford Kuga car does not provide for an oil change in a manual transmission. However, in some situations, this procedure is simply necessary. Often, drivers are faced with the problem of changing the fluid, since special holes and devices for this work are not provided by the manufacturer.

If an oil change is necessary, you need to find out what includes list necessary tools for changing the oil in a manual transmission in a Ford Kuga? To work, you must have:

  • Standard set of wrenches in different sizes.
  • Hexagon 8.
  • Syringe or funnel for pouring new mixture.
  • Container for used grease.
  • New transmission oil.
  • Rubber gloves, overalls.
  • Rag.

Replace lubricating fluid necessary, subject to safety regulations. To avoid injury, the machine must be well secured. For these purposes, a viewing hole, jack or overpass is suitable.

When working, it is necessary to use protection for hands and eyes, in order to avoid getting burned. Change the lubricant when it is warmed up. power unit... This will improve the fluidity of the waste fluid when it is drained. Drain the oil carefully as it may be hot.

During regular maintenance of the car, it is recommended to check the lubricant level. The vehicle operating instructions say that the oil in the manual transmission is filled for the entire service life. But if there is a need to replace it, it should be changed after 100,000 km of run, or about once every seven years.

Draining old oil and flushing the sump with removal of chips

Changing the lubricant will help reduce the wear of gearbox parts and extend the life of the machine. Before filling in a new fluid, it is necessary to drain the old oil from the tank in the Ford Kuga manual transmission. The grease should be drained following the instructions below:

  • To warm up the oil, start the engine and drive 10 - 20 km. The replacement process should start within 10 to 15 minutes after traveling by car.
  • Place the car on an inspection pit or overpass.
  • Unscrew the oil filler cap. This will help drain the fluid quickly.
  • Check the O-ring on the cover, replace if necessary.
  • Place the waste oil container underneath.
  • Unscrew the drain plug.
  • Drain the grease into a container.

After removing the waste fluid, the car owner must replace the oil filter. The filter change is always carried out during the change of the vehicle lubricant. After draining the mixture, it is necessary to check its condition for the presence of impurities, dirt, shavings. If the waste is contaminated, it is necessary to flush the pan.

Step-by-step process for flushing the pan:

  • Remove the bolts that secure the pallet.
  • Remove the pallet carefully.
  • Drain the rest of the oil into a prepared container.
  • Use a metal brush to clean the inner surface from old liquid, metal shavings, dirt, debris.
  • Wipe the pallet with a dry cloth.
  • Install the pallet in place by tightening the mounting bolts.
  • Screw on the drain plug.

Before screwing on the drain plug, check the drain plug gasket. If necessary, it should be replaced with a new one. At this stage, the process of draining the old oil and flushing the sump is complete. To complete all the work, it remains to fill with new fluid.

Filling new oil in automatic transmission

In manual gearboxes, it is recommended to use a transmission mixture with SAE 75W-90 and API GL-3 (for a gearbox old model), API GL-4 or API GL-5 (for modern manual transmissions). The right decision when choosing a fluid for a car is to use API GL-5, SAE 80W90 mineral gear oil for a manual transmission Ford Kuga. GL-5 fluid is recommended for Vehicle working in difficult conditions. GL-5 contains 6.5% multifunctional additives.

So, changing the oil in the manual transmission on the Ford Kuga ends with filling in a new lubricant. The sequence of actions is as follows:

If there is not enough oil in the manual transmission, it should be filled until it flows out of the filler hole. We must not forget that it is forbidden to change the oil by mixing liquids of different markings and manufacturers. In the operating instructions for the car, you can always find which lubricant should be used when operating the manual transmission and the car as a whole.

By adhering to the instructions for changing the lubricant, you can complete the entire replacement process. transmission oil in a manual transmission by yourself.

"Ford Kuga" quickly gained popularity in the market. This is a compact urban crossover, which is rich in equipment, excellent design and interesting solutions available from competitors only in more expensive models. "Kuga" is distinguished by its reliability and durability. If you properly take care of the car, carry out necessary measures on maintenance, the car will rarely bring any problems and unplanned repair costs.

When changing the oil in the Ford Kuga automatic transmission, it is necessary to assess the condition of the lubricant.

One of the main elements of a car is the engine and gearbox. In terms of reliability, the automatic transmission is inferior to the manual transmission, since the machine has a larger number of moving elements and complex electronics. But this did not stop the Ford company from creating a really high-quality and efficient automatic transmission. For a "Ford Kuga 2" it is not necessary to contact a car service. The procedure can be done by hand, if you properly prepare for work, purchase the necessary consumables and take a standard set of tools.

Frequency and reasons for replacement

During operation, the automatic transmission "Kugi" encounters mechanical and thermal loads and suffers from contamination of the transmission oil resulting from friction of parts. Auto concern Ford claims that the oil filled from the factory does not have an expiration date, but can be used for the entire operational period. But it is important to understand that in the United States, cars are usually in operation for no more than 7 to 8 years. At the same time, the road and climatic conditions are clearly more benign than ours. Therefore, for confident and trouble-free long-term operation of the "Kuga" in Russia, the oil in the automatic transmission needs to be changed.

Car "Ford Kuga 2" is carried out after 3 - 7 years. It all depends on the conditions in which the crossover was. If bad weather conditions acted on the car, you had to drive on difficult roads, with a load and other negative factors, then the oil will wear out faster. Without replacing the transmission fluid in time, you may encounter a breakdown of the entire automatic transmission. Each subsequent replacement is carried out at a shorter interval than the previous one. This is due to the natural wear and tear of structural elements.

Usually for the entire operational period on the "Ford Kuga" 2 - 4 times. The presence of fresh oil in the machine is much more important than in the mechanics, since the automatic transmission has a smaller margin of safety and a larger number of moving elements are used in the design. To determine the degree of wear of the transmission oil, they are guided by the color and smell of the fluid. But the smell is considered a rather subjective criterion, therefore it is better to look at the color and texture of the composition. Check the condition of the oil on a cold and hot gearbox. This allows you to distribute the entire volume of fluid through the automatic transmission, to raise the sediment from the bottom of the crankcase.

When the oil becomes contaminated with friction products, it ceases to perform its functions correctly. Friction increases, abrasive forms, surfaces wear out. Hard shavings can penetrate into parts and provoke further breakdowns. The most dangerous is the presence of metal shavings in the oil. This indicates a strong wear of the gearbox elements.

By the color of the oil in the automatic transmission, you can understand its condition and determine the presence of leaks. Transmission oil is red when fresh. Over time, it can turn almost black, which indicates the need for an urgent replacement. When draining the liquid, try to use a tissue or other filter material, which will show traces of chips, if any. The reasons for the transmission fluid leak from the automatic transmission of the Ford Kuga car can be:

  • shaft wear;
  • wear of oil seals;
  • play on the input shaft;
  • wear of the automatic transmission seal;
  • loosening of the bolts connecting the body elements;
  • damage to the sealant;
  • valve body wear;
  • clogging of channels and plungers with mechanical particles;
  • overheating and combustion of rubberized pistons, thrust disks, clutch drum;
  • overheating and wear of transmission discs, etc.

Although the official operating manual indicates the figure of 160 thousand kilometers as the period between, in practice it differs several times. Taking into account the operating conditions of the Kuga car in Russia, the climate and driving style, it is best to change the oil in the automatic transmission at least every 60 thousand kilometers. Most car owners do this procedure every 40-50 thousand kilometers. This is the optimal interval so that the oil does not have time to wear out and bring additional problems to the owner of the crossover.

Oil selection

The next question is the right choice, because what kind of oil the car owner will pour into the machine American crossover"Ford Kuga 2", the condition of the car will depend. For Ford cars and other American brands, it is recommended to buy oils with the Mercon LV ATF specification. In the case of Ford Kuga, car owners prefer Motorcraft XT 10 QLV transmission fluid.

On average, about 400-500 rubles are asked for a liter of such oil. You will need to purchase about 8.5 - 9 liters of the composition. Procedure self replacement does not come out very cheap, but when contacting specialists you will have to spend even more.

It is important to consider that the specified transmission oil loses its original red color relatively quickly. This is normal. Even if the oil darkened after a while and changed the smell, this does not mean that the automatic transmission is damaged.

The composition has an adequate cost, therefore, look for cheaper alternative options doesn't make sense. Experts advise to fill only synthetic transmission oil into the Ford Kuga car. This is due to its stability and preservation performance characteristics... Synthetics have lower viscosity and high coverage. Plus, synthetic oils are more resistant to thermal degradation and oxidative destructive processes. In this component, they significantly outperform their mineral counterparts.

Synthetics are poured from the factory and called irreplaceable. Although in fact this is not entirely true. Under ideal conditions, the oil can really last its entire operational life. Under normal conditions, factory oil with the specified specification easily lives in the box for 4 - 7 years, without causing problems to the car owner. Although even the highest quality and original transmission fluids will not be able to protect against the formation of friction products. It all depends on your attitude to the automatic transmission and the care of the gearbox.

Step-by-step instruction

If you decide on your own "Ford Coogee", you do not need to be afraid to do such work. There is nothing complicated and nothing that even a novice motorist could not cope with. Try to follow the instructions, observe safety rules and use only high-quality consumables that meet the requirements. In the case of the 2nd generation Ford Kuga crossover, which we are considering, the 6F35 automatic transmission is the most running and popular transmission option. Therefore, we will consider the procedure for replacing the transmission fluid using this box as an example.

"Ford Kuga" 2nd generation is equipped with a modified version of this automatic transmission. Immediately consider the fact that there is no dipstick in the 6F35 automatic transmission. To check the oil level and its current condition, use the inspection and filler plug. Try to check the transmission oil periodically. To do this, warm up the automatic transmission. This can be done by a short trip of 5-10 kilometers or by moving the automatic transmission selector in all positions with a mandatory delay of 5 seconds in each of the modes.

Regarding oil filter... In the case of this box, the automatic filter is located inside the transmission. Therefore, you cannot get to the filter element without disassembling the very structure of the gearbox. If your Ford Kuga has already covered a sufficiently large number of kilometers, and the time has come to change the transmission fluid, you need to competently prepare for the procedure and follow the instructions. Be sure to first look at the instruction manual that came with your crossover.

Read carefully about the gearbox installed on your version of the car, its specifications, design. This way you will know better about the location of all components, which will greatly simplify self service machine.

For complete replacement gear oil on the Ford Kuga crossover should be contacted by a car service that has special equipment. If you do not want to spend money on the services of specialists, then you can change the oil in a garage. The procedure, which will be discussed further, should be carried out 2-3 times. This will completely clean the torque converter. In the case of a single cleaning, you will be able to drain no more than 30% of the transmission oil, which will not allow you to fully restore the normal operation of the box and get rid of the resulting contamination.

Even 2 - 3 partial replacements performed in a row are cheaper than flushing the system with a special installation at a car service. One professional flush requires 1.5 to 2 full volumes of gear oil. The cost is more expensive.

Although the effectiveness of replacing old oil with new one speaks in favor of professional protection with the use of equipment. In this way, it is possible to remove the maximum amount of mining from the crankcase. And a partial replacement will not allow you to 100% get rid of the old grease in the automatic transmission crankcase. If the machine is not used for so long, the replacement is carried out according to the recommendations, then a partial replacement will be quite sufficient.

When you change the oil in the Ford Coogee gearbox, first check the level with the gauge plug on the cold automatic transmission. Then you need to drive 10 - 20 kilometers, and when the box is warmed up, re-measure the amount of transmission oil. Do not rely entirely on the recommendations of the automaker or the experience of other owners of the crossover "Ford Kuga" regarding the frequency of replacement of consumables, including oil in automatic box... You need to take into account your specific situation, regularly monitor the condition of the car and respond in time to any negative changes in its behavior. This will avoid serious breakdowns and costly repairs.

Changing the oil in the Ford Kuga gearbox is most often associated with the repair of the automatic transmission itself, or it is replaced with a new one in the course of work to eliminate oil leaks, since it must be drained for work. The oil in the automatic transmission is poured by the manufacturer once for the entire service life of the car. It is recommended to entrust the oil change in the Ford Kuga automatic transmission to professionals, but in some cases you can handle this operation on your own.

Functions ATF oils in the automatic transmission of Ford Kuga:

  • effective lubrication of rubbing surfaces and mechanisms;
  • reduction of the mechanical load on the units;
  • heat removal;
  • removal of microparticles formed due to corrosion or wear of parts.
The color of ATF oil for automatic transmission Ford Kuga allows not only to distinguish between oils by type, but helps to find out in case of a leak, from which system the fluid escaped. For example, oil in automatic transmission and power steering has a red tint, antifreeze is green, and in the engine it is yellowish.
Reasons for oil leakage from automatic transmission in Ford Kuga:
  • wear of automatic transmission oil seals;
  • wear of the surfaces of the shafts, the occurrence of a gap between the shaft and the sealing element;
  • wear of the automatic transmission sealing element and the speedometer drive shaft;
  • play in the input shaft of the automatic transmission;
  • damage to the sealing layer in the joints between the automatic transmission parts: pallet, automatic transmission housing, crankcase, clutch housing;
  • loosening of the bolts that ensure the connection of the above-mentioned parts of the automatic transmission;
The low oil level in the Ford Kuga automatic transmission is the main reason for the failure of the clutches. Due to the low fluid pressure, the clutches do not press well against the steel discs and do not contact each other tightly enough. As a result, the friction linings in the Ford Kuga automatic transmission are very hot, carbonized and destroyed, significantly contaminating the oil.

Due to a lack of oil or poor quality oil in the Ford Kuga automatic transmission:

  • plungers and channels of the valve body are clogged with mechanical particles, which leads to a shortage of oil in the packages and provokes wear of the sleeve, rubbing parts of the pump, etc.;
  • steel transmission discs overheat and wear out quickly;
  • rubberized pistons, thrust discs, clutch drum, etc; overheat and burn out;
  • the valve body wears out and becomes unusable.
Contaminated automatic transmission oil cannot fully remove heat and provide high-quality lubricant parts, which leads to various malfunctions of the Ford Kuga automatic transmission. Heavily contaminated oil is an abrasive slurry that creates a sandblasting effect under high pressure. An intense impact on the valve body leads to a thinning of its walls at the locations of the control valves, as a result of which numerous leaks may occur.
You can check the oil level in the Ford Kuga automatic transmission using a dipstick. The oil dipstick has two pairs of marks - the upper pair Max and Min allows you to determine the level in hot oil, the lower pair - in cold oil. Using the dipstick, it is easy to check the condition of the oil: you need to drip oil onto a clean white cloth.

When choosing a Ford Kuga automatic transmission oil for replacement, you should be guided by a simple principle: it is best to use an oil recommended by Ford. Moreover, instead of mineral oil you can fill in semi-synthetic or synthetic, but in no case should you use oil "lower class" from the prescribed one.

Synthetic oil for automatic transmissions of Ford Kuga is called "irreplaceable", it is poured for the entire service life of the car. This oil does not lose its properties under the influence of high temperature and is designed for a very long service life of the Ford Kuga. But we must not forget about the appearance of mechanical suspension as a result of wear of the clutches with a very significant mileage. If the automatic transmission has been operated for some time in conditions of a lack of oil, it is required to check the degree of its contamination and, if necessary, replace it.

Ways to change the oil in the automatic transmission Ford Kuga:

  • Partial oil change in the Ford Kuga box;
  • Complete oil change in the Ford Kuga box;
A partial oil change in a Ford Kuga automatic transmission can be done independently. To do this, it is enough to unscrew the drain on the pallet, driving the car onto the overpass, and collect the oil in a container. Usually up to 25-40% of the volume flows out, the remaining 60-75% remains in the torque converter, that is, in fact, this is an update, not a replacement. To update the oil in the Ford Kuga automatic transmission to the maximum in this way, 2-3 replacements are required.

A complete oil change in the Ford Kuga automatic transmission is performed using an automatic transmission oil change unit, by specialists in the car service. In this case, you will need more oil ATF than the Ford Kuga automatic transmission can accommodate. One and a half or double volume of fresh ATF is used for flushing. The cost will be more expensive than partial replacement, and not every car service provides such a service.
Partial ATF oil change in Ford Kuga automatic transmission box according to a simplified scheme:

  1. Unscrew the drain plug, drain the old ATF oil;
  2. We unscrew the automatic transmission pan, which, in addition to the bolts holding it, is processed along the contour with a sealant.
  3. We get access to the automatic transmission filter, it is advisable to change it with each oil change, or rinse it.
  4. At the bottom of the pallet there are magnets that are necessary for collecting metal dust and shavings.
  5. We clean the magnets and rinse the pan, wipe dry.
  6. Install the automatic transmission filter in place.
  7. We install the automatic transmission pan in place, replacing the automatic transmission pan gasket if necessary.
  8. We tighten the drain plug, replacing the drain plug gasket for the automatic transmission.
We fill the oil through the technological filler hole (where the automatic transmission dipstick is located), using the dipstick we control the oil level in the automatic transmission to a cold one. After changing the oil in the automatic transmission, it is important to check its level after driving 10-20 km, already with the automatic transmission warmed up. Top up if necessary. The regularity of oil changes depends not only on the mileage, but also on the nature of driving a Ford Kuga. You should be guided not by the recommended mileage, but by the degree of contamination of the oil, systematically checking it.
