Renault Scenic was released in 1996. It turned out that the novelty is built on the platform of the Megan model. Its body is a compact van. The appearance was in line with the general trend: more dynamism.

The developers have equipped the car with gasoline (volume from 1.4 to 2.0) and diesel (volume 1.9) engines. For a long time, diesel models were not officially supplied to Russia. This trend affected all imported manufacturers. Therefore, domestic motorists had to master a gasoline engine, mainly with 1.6 and 2.0 liters of volume, with a manual transmission. Diesel came in limited quantities through the secondary market.

Russians Renault Scenic 1.6 of the first generation is better known in the restyled version of 1999. The update affected not only the appearance (front, headlights, dashboard), but also the engines. They appeared with a capacity of 107 liters. with. instead of the previous 90 "horses".

Renault Scenic II: notable features

In September 2003, the second generation Renault Scenic was launched. Back on Megan's platform (new version). The updated body design also repeats the ideas of the "big" brother. From there are borrowed an even sloping front, large wide headlights. The new owners nevertheless found a zest: there is more space for passengers.

The interior of the Renault Scenic II is its own. The second generation is better equipped with various electronic sensor and control systems. Official deliveries to Russia were limited to five-seat compact vans. Seven-seaters were also produced. The new 1.6-liter petrol engine produces up to 115 hp. with. and is equipped with a mechanical box.

In August 2006, restyled cars began to roll off the assembly line. This displayed on the engine: 110 Horse power... Russian buyers were offered to choose a mechanic or an automatic machine. Wherein maximum speed differed, 180 and 175 km / h, respectively. It is noteworthy that the 2003 model engine could accelerate up to 185 kilometers. Changes appearance were minimal.

The designers take into account the requirements of customers and respect European traditions. Exterior, interior, engineering stuffing correspond to the times. The list of declared characteristics in many ways remains impressive for today. However, in order to correctly evaluate the car, it is important to listen to the feedback from Renault Scenic users.

Car owners opinion: general opinion about models

First of all, the reviews note a wonderful overview of the road, the spaciousness of the cabin, the possibility of its transformation. Three adult passengers are seated comfortably. The interior is ergonomic. Impulse windows do not pinch accidentally left fingers, hands or head. This is a plus for the safety of children.

These are good family cars. Some reviews say that basic configuration Renault Scenic 2 with a 1.6-liter petrol engine is enough for the daily needs of the car enthusiast and family.

Convenient to carry out transportation. Having disassembled rear seats, you can transport office furniture, household appliances, kayaks and more.

Long journeys are perceived in different ways. We distinguish three factors that influence the opposite of opinions:

  • roads;
  • driver's seat in the first model;
  • driving style.

Clearance (12 cm) obliges to pay attention to Russian roads. These cars are not suitable for driving on poor surfaces and off-road conditions. Travelers in Europe consider this Frenchman an excellent transport, unlike car owners who are limited to domestic spaces.

Drivers who are above average height find it difficult to drive over long distances. In the second Renault Scenic, the designers took into account this discomfort and adapted the control levers.

Not only the convenience of the voyage depends on the driving style, but also the safety. The 1.6-liter engine is not designed for racing. After a speed of 140 km / h, noise disturbs. It is also often observed at engine speeds above 3,500.

Careful road behavior contributes to moderate fuel consumption and prolongs the service life.

Many car enthusiasts write about gas mileage. For example, the 2003 engine (mechanics) on the highway gives the following indicators: 6.8-11.5 l / 100 km. Engine consumption 2001 (mechanics) is as follows: highway - 6-8 liters, city 9-10 liters. These figures are relative. They help you see the extremes of savings and costs.

The chassis works stably. The ride is smooth on normal roads, but the car rolls a lot when cornering and on rough terrain. In general, the car is reliable and safe. A case is described as Renault Scenic 1.6 turned over in a snow-covered pit, the starboard doors were crumpled. The car was pulled out onto the road with assistance. Then the driver sat down, started and drove off.

Today we will talk about the second generation Renault Scenic.

The production of this machine began in 2003 and continued until 2009. In 2006, a restyling took place, during which the "face" changed somewhat. There was a different bumper and a different grille, lensed optics and rear lights appeared. This restyling did not bring more significant changes, and a person who does not know these differences may not notice the difference.

From the jokes of this car - plastic fenders.

When there is a slight blow, or hitting an obstacle, then this wing splits and you have to change. It is simply impossible to restore.

The mirror is not on the door, as usual, but on the counter. As a result, we get a picture: the door opens, and the mirror remains in place. It is very convenient to park with the door open.

Instead of the usual hook on the janitor's leash, they created the so-called "bayonet connector", you can find a cheap Chinese janitor for this car, you can only with an adapter. And moreover, manufacturers of completely low-quality wipers are engaged in this, which are enough for a month, if not for two weeks. So you have to buy here good brushes, then live happily ever after. But they also cost well, on the order of $ 25-30 a couple.

There is no rim on the windshield, which rakes in water and diverts it to the roof. We get an unpleasant story when the water from the wipers is drained to the driver's window. And at a speed not even very high, the water is on the window, limiting the view in the mirrors.

If in the city, it is still not very annoying, or there is just some light rain and slush, then when the dirt on the road sprinkled with reagents, it flows down and successfully freezes, completely restricting the view in the left mirror.

Moving on to the rear of the Renault Scenic 2, we continue talking about aerodynamics and limiting the view. If we drive in wet weather, the dirt flies from under the wheels and the rear window turns out to be smeared with everything. You have to constantly use a cleaner.

Another feature is the filler neck of the gas tank. There is no usual lid, which is screwed on. Instead, the lid is "on a spring". The owners of old wheelbarrows go nuts at gas stations: a pistol arrived, stuck it in, refueled, took it out, put it back in place, closed the lid, sat down and left without rotating anything. This happens very quickly.

Motors

At different times were placed here different motors, among the gasoline there were 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, and a two-liter engine. 1.8 was literally in the first year of production, then removed. It is almost impossible to find a version with a 1.4 engine, because there is only 80 horsepower and for almost 2 tons total mass this is not enough.

At 1.6, the power is something of the order of 113-115 horsepower, depending on the version, and the two-liter has a capacity of 134 horsepower. As for the diesel engines, 1.9 old engines, which were still on the first Stenik, were installed here, as well as 1.5 liter engines.

The last years of production were two-liter Nissan diesel engines with a timing chain drive, the most problem-free. Moreover, their power is under 150-160 horsepower, which is optimal. But finding a car with such an engine is almost impossible due to the expensive customs clearance.

In our case, there is exactly a 106 horsepower poltorashka with a Continental fuel system. There were still weak versions with the Delphi fuel system, it delivers constant problems, as a result of which it is not recommended by specialists. It is expensive to fix everything, they do not like to service her and she constantly makes a fool of her head. There are no particular problems with Siemens Continental. If something happens to the injectors or the injection pump, it can be repaired quickly and cheaply.

If you do not know how visually different engines with a Delphi and Siemens Continental fuel system are, it is easy to see in the cabin. Weak engines 80/85 horsepower in the cabin will necessarily five-speed gearbox gears, on powerful versions there is always a six-speed.

The cars were also equipped with a four-speed automatic, thus DP0, which is now still installed on many Renault budgets. There is no point in buying such a thing, because this machine is slow, stupid, reliable and constantly fooling around.

Also from the gearboxes, there was a six-speed automatic, made by Jatko. There are no questions to it, but they were completed neither in the version with a two-liter diesel engine, which is almost impossible to find. With a machine gun it is doubly unrealistic. So forget it.

The most famous joke of these motors is associated with the cranking of the liners. The fact is that in Europe the oil change service interval in these machines was carried out every 30,000 km. For 30,000 km, any oil turns into water, even on a diesel engine, not to mention gasoline. As a result, the earbuds were erased and rotated, so when we buy this car diesel and we do not know the story, in any case, we change the liners and after that we ride calmly.

Service

As for car maintenance, it is very crowded here under the hood. There are practically enough spread fingers to cover the whole thing, that is, it is unrealistic to crawl up here to do something on your own. It's even a problem to change the light bulb in the headlight. Because it is impossible to crawl up to her. True, if you fold the filler neck of the windscreen washer flap, you can crawl.

It's almost impossible to do something on your own, if you need to change the light bulb in the headlight, you need to do it wisely in the service as follows: the headlight is removed to remove the headlight, you need to remove the bumper, the muzzle is dealt with it. The bumper is removed (fortunately, there are several attachment points removed quickly), the headlight gets out, the light bulb changes. Everything is going back.

Here, many things are done by removing the bumper, this leads to the fact that the bumpers are constantly hanging crooked. On Scenic 2 generations, this never means that the car is damaged. There is even a problem to replace the filter yourself. The fuel filter is in the wing. This means that the car must either be lifted or climbed out of the pit to remove the wheel, remove the wheel arch liner and change from there. It is not very convenient for self-service.

Therefore, if you are going to buy Scenic 2 generations, or even worse Scenic 3 (it is even more difficult there), then get ready for the fact that some elementary things that were previously done in the yard will have to be done at the service, or at least drive into the overpass or some kind of lift.

Trunk

The trunk opens very conveniently, the button is from the bottom, we raise the gate, it opens very conveniently. It fits 430 liters of space, the shape is comfortable, under the carpet there is a full-size spare wheel, and in addition to it, a bunch of different junk is also placed. In addition to 430 liters. still a small organizer in which you can put some trifle.

There are two ways to increase, firstly, the seats in the back move forward and backward, and when we move the seats as far forward as possible, and each of them can be moved, then the space increases.

Secondly, if we want to increase it to almost two cubes, we fold the seats, remove them and get them out of the car altogether. The only question is where to put them, you have a garage, this a good option... If we want to increase the trunk to a minimum, then we simply fold the seats, raise them and get twenty meters in length. With fully removed seats, length 155 cm.

Back row

There are 3 separate seats, two extreme shoulder space is sufficient, the three of us are more or less comfortable. Each seat is adjustable back and forth. Airplane-type tables, you can spread them out and eat, drink something, do not stop for a snack on the way.

You can also fold the center seat into a table, which also doubles as an armrest, which is not here. But a problem arises - a hole in the trunk. Separately, its own lighting, handles with microlifts and very stupid hangers from which things constantly fall.

As for the place, there is a lot of space here, it's a sin to complain. In addition to these folding tables, you can put the front seat: the backs recline, fold forward, and we get another table. But it is rather necessary for the driver, because rear passengers, if they have their own tables, do not need it.

The only thing that is really missing is separate air ducts, because everything was created according to the classics. In severe frost, the blowing power is not enough. There are not enough air ducts between the seats, or in the pillars, so it would be warmer in the back, because in real cold weather, passengers complain that it is cold.

Salon

When we sit down forward, we see that there is no classic combination of switch devices, the tidy is in the middle and it is electronic. There is no classic ignition lock, there is a key card with buttons for opening and closing the doors and trunk, and there is a retractable key that is used if the battery is dead and you need to open the doors.

There is no climate control in our version, it is an ordinary cooled stove. The package is simple and, on the whole, I really like how it was conceived, although it looks somewhat toy. But, on the other hand, it's fun.

The main joke is that the blower speed regulator and the temperature regulator are made on the same handle. Why this was done was unclear. But five, there are 5 directions of blowing, and you can also set intermediate ones. The air conditioner is turned on here, heating is also turned on here. rear window and heated mirrors.

The 1.5-liter diesel engine has antifreeze immersion heaters (ordinary glow plugs) and in winter the car warms up quite quickly. 5-10 minutes at idle and it is almost warm. If they do not work, then in a frost of minus 10, 15, 20, the car in city mode will not warm up to an operating temperature of 90 degrees, even after 20 km of travel.

What exactly upsets this car is the radio. In a car produced in 2008, there is not only USB or even AUX, it does not have a banal MP3 from a disc. This regular CD is old. Judging by the location of the controls, which are absolutely the same as that of the radio tape recorder that was on the previous generation of Scenic and Magan, this is the same radio tape recorder, although it has changed slightly.

For sound quality. There are 4 speakers in the doors, a speaker in each door, and tweeters under the windshield. Sound quality is below average, nothing impressive, I would like better sound.

With regard to the convenience of landing. In front, the steering wheel is adjustable in reach and height, the radius of departure is a little lacking.

The seat itself is quite comfortable, the pillow is more or less long, the legs lie almost completely on the pillow, nothing gets tired or swollen on the road. even 300 km without stops can be passed here without any problems.

What else you have to get used to, there is a very wide steering column, and the paddle shifters are very short, while they have minimal travel and indistinct fixation.

On the steering wheel there is a cruise control adjustment button and a sound adjustment.

In the cabin, the only 12-volt outlet is located in the ledge where the gear lever is located.

There is no cigarette lighter and ashtray in my version, because of this I have to not smoke in traffic jams.

The plastic here is so soft that you can literally bend it. On the devices, the plastic is already tougher, the bottom is some kind of Chinese plastic, it does not look very presentable.

The protective visors are absolutely ordinary, the mirrors are attached, there is no illumination. There is a cool, panoramic mirror.

The glove compartment is gigantic, refrigerated. In the summer, when the air conditioner is turned on, you can put some water there and it will remain cold.

What I like here in the front is that there is a lot of space here, you can sit waddle as you want.

The door is lined with fabric, and it is dissatisfied with a rough one. The armrest is sheathed to her. When we ride in the summer with bare hands and put the elbow from a long trip it chases a little. I would like to put something like velor here. The salon of the first Scenic was, perhaps, due to the velor and a little more comfortable.

Storage space is not limited to the glove compartment, there are pockets in the doors, wet wipes can be safely placed there, there are pockets with stamping for a bottle. And inside you can find a lot of places where a lot of things are placed, the main thing is not to forget where, what they put.

Go

The back one is turned on according to the scheme, we pull the latch up, and turn it on next to the first, conveniently. The permeability is quite good, 16 cm of ground clearance is enough. The only drawback is the large front overhang.

The suspension pleases with its softness, despite the fact that the rear beam runs very smoothly and swallows road irregularities. There is a very high energy consumption, it was not possible to achieve a breakdown of the suspension even once.

A two-mass flywheel in a diesel version, if it dies, a replacement costs a pretty penny, a clutch with a two-mass flywheel costs about $ 600 to change.

I am pleased with the gorgeous visibility, a huge front windshield, the side glasses seem to be in an aquarium.

Disc brakes, front and rear everywhere. Rear brake discs are compressed, wheel bearings, if they die, have to be changed along with the brake discs. At a speed of even 50 km, wind noise is now heard, on the frontal and on the struts, if we return to the issue of sound insulation.

Corrosion resistance, good for 8 years that the car has existed in nature, there is only one beetle on the doorstep, appeared for the same reason that the side was slightly damaged.

Rust is nowhere else on the body, there are no beetles on the bottom, it practically looks new. In turns at speed, a little roll. At the base it keeps the road at a speed of 140, you can drive on the track, steer with just two fingers. Consumption in the city is somewhere on the order of 6 and a half liters, along highway 4.

Outcome

The car has a lot of space inside and has a modest size of 4.2 m, which makes it very convenient to use in the city, it is comfortable to park. There is enough space for five people. The car is quite reliable, it does not cause any serious problems and if you take care of it, it will delight you for many years.

Renault Scenic 2 (Renault Scenic) - compact MPV of class C of the French company "Renault". For the first time Scenic appeared 13 years ago, and, since then, it is rightfully called one of the most futuristic compact vans on the market. This car is hardly suitable for those who like to burn rubber in traffic light races and cut through the city at night at maximum revs. This car will be interesting for those who are used to driving out of town on weekends, and not alone, but with a larger family, as well as for those who value practicality and comfort in cars more than appearance and large engine displacement.

A bit of history:

The Renault Scenic concept car was first presented at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1991. The development of the serial model began in 1995, after the premiere of the Renault Megan hatchback, on the basis of which it was built. The official premiere of Renault Scenic took place in 1996. Despite its rather high cost, this model was a very popular car in the European market (about three million copies were produced during production). This was confirmed by the title "European Car of the Year" awarded to him in 1997. In 1999, the manufacturer made a small upgrade, during which the front of the car and the dashboard were changed. Also, the changes also affected the line of power units - 16-valve 1.4 liters (98 hp) and 1.6 liters (105 hp) were modified. In 2000, the first Scenic "RX4" rolled off the assembly line, the novelty differed from the standard version of the car by the presence all-wheel drive, increased ground clearance to 210 mm and slightly modified exterior design. It was discontinued in 2003.

Renault Scenic 2 premiered in March 2003 at the Geneva Motor Show. Unlike its predecessor, the novelty has not only a common platform with, but also external similarity. Both cars were built on new platform Alliance "Renault-Nissan" - Nissan C. In addition to the usual version, a seven-seater modification, which was called "Grand Scenic", was presented on the market. In 2006, a restyled version of the car made its debut at the Paris Auto Show. The main changes: the radiator grille received a new style, the bumpers began to be painted in body color, the design changed rims and interior. Grand Scenic became available in two versions - five- and seven-seater, there were "smart" parking sensors, squeaking not only when parking, but also at the risk of collision with another vehicle... In 2007, an all-wheel drive version of the model, called the "Scénic Conquest", appeared on the market - the successor to the RX4.

The third generation of the model was presented in March 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show. The car has traditionally inherited the platform and design of the new one. At the end of 2011, Renault Scenic 3 was restyled. In the course of the renovation, the design of the front part has radically changed, new power units of the Energy family have appeared, the list of equipment has expanded. In 2013, another restyled version of the model was presented in Geneva, which was given a modern look, and the list of available equipment was also supplemented. Simultaneously with the updated model, Renault presented an off-road modification of the compact van called Renault Scenic XMOD.

Weaknesses and disadvantages of Renault Scenic 2 with mileage

The paintwork, like most modern cars, is rather weak, because of this, scratches and chips appear even from a slight mechanical impact. The body iron is well galvanized, due to which it is not prone to corrosion, even in the places of chips, rust does not appear for a very long time. One of the most common problems is bonnet lock failure (stops closing). Workaround: Pull back the latch before closing the bonnet. Lubricating the lock is often enough to fix the problem. If the windshield wipers cease to cope with their duties (most often from the passenger side), it is necessary to replace the trapezium leash bearing (5-10 cu).

Over time, the rear window washer starts working every other time, the reason is the valve of the washer fluid flow switch wedges. Before buying a car, be sure to check the heating of the rear-view mirrors, the failure of the heating element is a fairly common phenomenon. Also, special attention should be paid to: door locks - keyless entry stops working and the rear window - bursts with sudden temperature changes. During operation, you need to carefully monitor the drainage system and, if necessary, clean it, otherwise, it will clog and water will begin to enter the passenger compartment through the air intake. Often, moisture gets on the electronic unit, which is responsible for controlling the fan of the climate system and disables it.

Power units

The Renault Scenic 2 powertrain lineup includes not only gasoline, but also diesel engines: petrol - 1.4 (98hp), 1.6 (105, 111 and 113hp), 2.0 (136 and 165hp). ; diesel - 1.5 (80, 86, 100, 106), 1.9 (115, 120 and 130 HP), 2.0 (110, 150 and 160 HP). All power units are equipped with a timing belt drive; it is recommended to replace the belt with guides and tension rollers every 60,000 km. To replace the timing elements, it is advisable to turn to experienced specialists, the fact is that the pulley has a keyless fit, and if you do not hold out the fastening bolt, the pulley can turn, thereby provoking a fatal meeting of the valves with the pistons. The crankshaft damper pulley serves 150-200 thousand km. Problems with the damper are prompted by rattling, rattling in the engine area, which disappears when you press the clutch pedal. At the same time with timing belt it is recommended to change the pump as well, since very often its resource does not exceed 80,000 km.

Another ailment that is common to all motors is the failure of the cooling fan resistor. Symptoms - the fan runs constantly at medium speed. The most common is considered gasoline engine 1.6, its weak point is the unreliability of the phase regulator (crackling appears when starting a cold engine and diesel at idle, also, the engine may not start the first time) and failure of the camshaft position sensor. The 2.0 engine, like the weaker unit, is not without problems with the phase regulator; in addition, the owners note an unpleasant squeak while the engine is running. The reason is the peculiarity of the operation of the crankcase ventilation system membrane.

On both power units, the ignition coils are not famous for their reliability; the Sagem coils have gained the most notoriety. If the engine stops starting, the reason most likely lies in the oxidized contacts of the crankshaft sensor or freon pressure in the air conditioning system (it is tied into a common power supply circuit with other sensors of the power unit). Both engines do not like the economical driving mode (coasting, etc.), as a result of such operation, malfunctions arise in the ignition system - carbon deposits appear on the spark plugs. Also, this mode can provoke ring coking. The service life of a gas pump rarely exceeds 100,000 km.

Diesel motors

Renault Scenic 2 with diesel power units were not officially supplied to us. Most of these specimens were imported through outbids. As a rule, in Europe, such cars are bought with a mileage of 150,000 km and above, and here at secondary market most of these cars are sold with a mileage of 100-120 thousand km. In Europe, the average car service interval is 20-25 thousand km, which negatively affects the engine resource. In a power unit with a volume of 1.5 liters, after 150-200 thousand km of run, it cranks the connecting rod bearings. Symptoms - a knock appears during the start of a cold engine, as well as when the speed increases. To avoid costly repairs, the liners are recommended to be replaced after 150,000 km. Replacement of liners costs 120-150 USD. If the liners are not replaced in a timely manner, you will have to change the crankshaft - $ 600-800. This ailment was not spared by the 1.9 DCI turbo engine. Unlike a weaker engine, here this ailment manifests itself on a mileage of over 250,000 km. The turbocharger is reliable and, if properly operated, can last more than 200,000 km, replacing the turbine will cost $ 300-400. Depending on the year of manufacture and engine size, the car was installed fuel systems different manufacturers: Delphi (the most capricious) - was installed on cars until 2006, Siemens - from 2006, Bosch (the most reliable) - was installed only on 1.9 DCI motors.

Transmission

Renault Scenic 2 was equipped with two types of gearboxes - 5 and 6-speed mechanics and four-range automatic transmission DP0 (installed in tandem with gasoline power units). The mechanics are reliable and do not bother their owners often. The most common ailment of manual transmissions is oil leakage at the junction of the clutch housing and gearbox, the problem is not widespread. Also, some owners note unpleasant twitching at the beginning of the movement - the problem is treated only by replacing the clutch kit. The average clutch resource is 120-150 thousand km.

But, the automatic transmission on cars of the first years of production turned out to be a rather problematic unit. Problems with automatic transmission can begin after 70-90 thousand km of run, twitching will serve as the first symptoms of the upcoming repair of the box. If you do not contact the service, over time, the box will go into emergency mode work. The reasons are faulty oil seals, valve body, solenoid valves, torque converter, etc. On cars manufactured after 2006, the first problems with an automatic transmission begin after 120,000 km. The cost of repairing an automatic transmission ranges from 200 to 400 USD.

The reliability of the Renault Scenic 2 chassis

An independent MacPherson suspension is installed in the front, and a semi-independent beam at the rear. In good condition, the Renault Scenic 2 suspension is capable of providing a fairly comfortable ride. The chassis is the Achilles' heel of this model, especially on cars of the first years of production. The weak point of the front suspension is the wheel bearings, on pre-styling versions they could fail after 15-30 thousand km, on restyled cars the situation has improved significantly and the bearing life increased to 70-90 thousand km.

Also, spherical bearings can be attributed to consumables here, on average they walk 60-70 thousand km. The stabilizer struts take care of up to 80,000 km, the bushings up to 120,000 (over time, the bushings "eat up" the stabilizer, because of this, when replacing them, their seats have to be compacted). Shock absorbers and thrust bearings (I can creak after 50,000 km), with careful operation they will last 100-120 thousand km. Silent blocks and levers nurture up to 150,000 km. Rear suspension it is considered not to be killed, despite this, on some specimens, after 100,000 km of run, it was necessary to change the silent blocks (change assembly with a beam). Closer to 200,000 km, replacement of the shock absorber springs is required - the coil of the spring breaks off.

In the steering system, the weak point is the right rack bushing - it quickly breaks. Symptoms are knocking from the front of the car while driving on uneven roads. Also, branded steering tips are not famous for their endurance - the average service life is 40-50 thousand km (when replacing, it is better to give preference a good analogue). At the same time, the steering rods are capable of serving up to 130,000 km. V brake system sometimes there are problems with the correct operation of the automatic parking brake (electric handbrake) - the pads do not completely move away from the disc. The reason is that the cable is sour (replacement is required), also, the ailment can be caused by the failure of the double relay on the control board, in which case the repair will cost 300-500 cu.

Salon

The quality of Renault Scenic 2 finishing materials corresponds to the class of the car. Of the shortcomings, only uncomfortable front seats and squeaky plastic can be noted. Things are much worse with the reliability of the electrical equipment of the cabin. Most often, owners are faced with a malfunction of the power windows and the air recirculation system. Also, a common ailment is the failure of the dashboard and a break in the driver's airbag connection loop. If moisture enters the passenger compartment, due to a clogged drainage system, over time, the electrical wiring begins to rot, as a result of which the electrical equipment of the rear of the car (wiper, feet, room lights, etc.) fails. On a car with a mileage of 100-150 thousand km, there may be problems with air conditioning. The most common is a seized air conditioner compressor. Often, the air conditioner stops working due to the failure of the electromagnetic clutch and pressure sensors. Also, deterioration of the system piping and seals at the joints can lead to a malfunction of the air conditioner.

Outcome:

Renault Scenic 2 is suitable for those people who value comfort and practicality in cars. If we talk about the reliability of this model, then it is difficult to call this car problem-free due to numerous minor malfunctions; after many years of operation, many owners have an ambiguous impression of the car. The best option for the purchase is considered to be a car of the last years of production; before buying, it is recommended to carry out a full diagnosis in a specialized service.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your feedback that will help the readers of our site when choosing a car.

With engine 1.6

  • Anatoly, Pyatigorsk. Renault Scenic - my first minivan, I bought it with my wife. 1999 car, current mileage 188 thousand km. Very reliable car if it is serviced in a timely manner. Fuel consumption with a 1.6 engine reaches 8-9 liters.

The maximum speed is 170 km / h, acceleration to the first hundred in 13-14 seconds. A compact and high-quality minivan with character, however, like all French cars. In the urban cycle, you can keep within 8-9 liters per 100 km.

I have a five-seater version, but the salon is designed for full-fledged five seats, passengers are spacious in all proportions. • Constantine, Dnepropetrovsk. I like the car, I drive with comfort. Renault Scenic is a great option for the city and long trips, just for my wife and I needs. • Nikolay, Lipetsk. Standing car just for my needs. Renault Scenic cost me inexpensively, moreover, it is undemanding to maintain. Original spare parts are inexpensive, the 1.6 engine is very economical, it does not bother with breakdowns. In the city, consumption is at the level of 9-10 liters.
  • Vladimir, Perm Territory. The wheelbarrow pleases me, the children and my wife. We bought this car together, and tested it together. After all, the voice of every family member is important to me. We found a suitable option - in the end, the choice fell on a powerful 1.6-liter version with a capacity of 116 liters. with. Renault Scenic is ideal for household chores. I have a seven-seat version of the Grand. I work as a taxi driver, for these tasks the minivan seems to be indispensable. And for this he has an economical 1.5-liter diesel that consumes no more than 8 liters per 100 km.
  • Vasily, Minsk. Good car, not a bit regretted the purchase. I turned up a suitable copy of 2012, with a range of 65 thousand km. Renault Scenic is my first minivan and I was in awe of its spaciousness, especially after my Fiat Panda. The 1.5-liter diesel is even more economical than the 1.2-liter Panda. The stage consumes within 6-8 liters.
  • Mikhail, Vologda region. Renault Scenic will be commended for its comfort and economy. The car is worth the money, and copes with the duties of a minivan. Consumes 6-7 liters on average.
  • Sergey, Murmansk. I liked the car, it suits in all respects. Firstly, it is of course reliability and practicality, inexpensive maintenance. I will also praise Scenic for good visibility due to the large glass area - from this point of view, the minivan is thought out to the smallest detail. Oh yes, I will also note a large number of small compartments in the cabin, which is very convenient - children have where to hide their stash. A car with a 1.5-liter diesel engine and mechanics consumes only 7-8 liters per 100 km.
  • Oleg, Taganrog. The wheelbarrow pleases - both me and all the household. We bought it with my wife, it was in 2013. An excellent family car, unpretentious to operate, and very economical. With engine 1.6

  • Nikolay, Stavropol Territory. I am satisfied with the car, I am satisfied with the car in all respects. Despite the release of a new generation, the previous Scenic is still relevant by modern minivan standards. I have a 2013 version, after restyling. A reliable and practical device for every day. I drive comfortably, my family is happy. Design for an amateur - a kind of 50-year-old family man. With a 1.6 engine in the urban cycle, you can keep within 10 liters per 100 km, 7-8 liters on the highway. I fill in 95th gasoline.
  • Alexey, Tyumen. Renault Scenic was bought to replace Lada Largus. All the same, I wanted a more modern and functional car. The choice fell on a French car, on average. The stage artist looks original and family-like. High and wide body, very spacious inside. With a 1.6-liter engine, you can get away with 10 liters per 100 km.
  • Denis, Leningrad region. Scenic - a car is what I need, it satisfies all my needs. Both the wife and the children like the car. Everyone is happy. In addition, Scenic brings me a good income - I earn extra money on the delivery of small and medium-sized household appliances, which fit into the salon without any problems if the rear seats are folded. For example, a washing machine or mini-refrigerator will fit. 1.6-liter engine consumes 10-11 liters, I have a version with a gun.
  • Svetlana, Kaliningrad. The car is worth the money. I have a previous generation Scenic, version 2015, after the second restyling. In general, I love minivans, and I was interested in every generation of Renault scenic. But still, I was "ripe" only for this generation, so there is nothing to compare with. Objectively, I will say that the car is practical and reliable. Service in the dealership is inexpensive, with a large selection of original spare parts. In the city, the car consumes 10 liters. A 1.6-liter gasoline engine is installed under the hood. He has good dynamics, besides, I note quite easy handling for this class.

Rich functionality, advanced equipment and a lot of space in the salon - what a family needs. I dreamed of a minivan for a long time, but everything did not go well. In two years I traveled 79 thousand km, everything works as before. Strong body, reliable handling and minimal roll when cornering. The 2.0 engine adjusts for fast driving, but the steering wheel is frankly empty - it is light, but it is convenient with it in the parking lot. • Elena, Magnitogorsk. A car for all occasions, my children are happy. I needed a minivan for ordinary family needs - I take the children to kindergarten, and then to work, and vice versa. So we are both satisfied with this car, and we have fun. The choice was right. And I will say more that our Renault Scenic will certainly serve us for more than one year. In two years we have driven 70 thousand km, or there will be more. With a 2.0 engine, gasoline consumption is within 10-12 liters, depending on the nature of the ride.

Renault Scenic II is a popular compact van from Renault, the official sales of which started in 2003 (the car was produced until 2009). Over the years, the Scenic has become one of the most demanded cars in this class, gaining a place in the sun from German and Japanese manufacturers. There are several reasons for this. First of all, Renault cars have an optimal price / quality ratio. Secondly, the French managed to create a small but roomy family car with an attractive appearance. But whether such a car turned out to be reliable, and what problems the owners face during operation, now we will try to figure it out.

Specifications Renault Scenic II

Car class - M;

Make and body type - JM, minivan;

Body dimensions (L x W x H), mm - 4259 x 1810 x 1620;

Wheelbase, mm - 2685;

Tire size - 195/65 R15;

Volume fuel tank, l - 60;

Weight, kg - 1315;

Trunk capacity, l - 430 (1840).

Typical problem areas Renault Scenic II

Body:

Paintwork- rather soft, because of this it quickly becomes covered with small chips and scratches.

Body iron- due to high-quality galvanizing, the metal of the car is not prone to the formation of corrosion (even in the places of chips, the metal does not "bloom" for a long time), an exception may be cars that are poorly restored after an accident.

Equipment- most of all complaints are caused by the hood lock, over time it stops closing. If you have a problem, do not rush to buy a new lock, first try to lubricate it, often this operation helps to restore its performance. For a temporary solution to the problem, you need to pull back the lock tongue before closing the hood. Another trouble spot the bearing of the trapezium leash is, if it is faulty, the wipers do not do their job well enough (most often the problem is observed on the wiper on the right side), since the repair is inexpensive 5-10 dollars. For cars manufactured before 2006, it is not uncommon for the rear window washer to stop working. The reason - the valve of the washer fluid flow switch is wedged. Also, weak points include the unreliability of the heating elements for heating the rear-view mirrors and the keyless entry system - it stops working over time.

Rear glass- may crack at a sharp temperature drop.

Moisture in the cabin- as a rule, water enters the passenger compartment through the air intake, the reason is that the drainage system is clogged. This problem is dangerous because moisture can get into the electronic unit, which is responsible for the performance of the climate system motor and disable it.

Powertrain ailments

For all Renault Scenic II engines (except for a two-liter diesel engine), the timing drive is equipped with a belt and, if it breaks, it usually bends the valve. Therefore, every 60,000 km it is recommended to change the rollers and the belt itself in order to ride with peace of mind. It is better to carry out work on replacing the belt in a specialized service center or from a qualified auto mechanic. The fact is that the pulley has a keyless fit, and if the fastening bolt is not tightened properly, the pulley can turn and provoke the valves to meet the pistons. The resource of the crankshaft damper pulley is 170-200 thousand km - if it is faulty in the area of the power unit, a rattle, rattling appears, which disappears after pressing the clutch pedal. If you do not want to visit the service station once again, it is advisable to replace the pump at the same time with the belt, since it rarely goes more than 90,000 km. The fan resistor is briefly enough in the engine cooling system - it may become unusable even after 50,000 km. In case of its malfunction, the fan runs uninterruptedly at medium speed.

K4J- the dynamics of a car with such an engine will suit only calm drivers and beginners, it is not recommended for drivers with an aggressive driving style. Depending on the quality of service and operating conditions, the engine resource will be 300-400 thousand km. To the most common malfunctions this engine can be attributed:

Malfunctions of the crankshaft position sensor- accompanied by unstable operation of the power unit (revolutions are floating). Treatment - often the problem is solved by cleaning the sensor, if the faulty element does not help, it will have to be replaced.

Original ignition coils- are another weak point of this motor, if they fail, the engine begins to triple. Solution to the problem - when replacing, it is recommended to give preference to a high-quality analogue.

Knock and noise in the engine- as a rule, valves requiring clearance adjustment are noisy, main and connecting rod bearings, pistons and piston pins can also knock - if extraneous sounds appear, you need to deliver the car to the service as soon as possible.

Other malfunctions- leakage of the crankshaft oil seal, also the owners often complain about the leaks of the power steering pipes, and the loss of tightness of the cooling system.

K4M- is the most popular engine in the lineup, and not only on this model (installed on, Logan and others). The resource of the motor, with proper maintenance, is 400+ thousand km of run. Despite the fact that the engine itself is not bad, it has a couple of significant drawbacks:

Troit engine- there may be several reasons: the ignition coils, injectors, spark plugs are out of order. If after diagnostics it turns out that they are in order, measure the compression.

Float turns- you can talk about the possible causes of floating engine speed for hours, but most often the culprit for this ailment will be air leaks, a dirty throttle valve, an idle speed regulator or some other sensor.

Phase regulator- despite the manufacturer's declared resource of 100-150 thousand km, it is at risk and may fail even with a significantly lower mileage. If it malfunctions during cold start of the engine, crackling and diesel engine appear at idle.

Camshaft position sensor- is often the reason for the appearance of increased vibrations and unstable engine operation.

Crankshaft- as a rule, owners of Spanish-assembled cars encounter a crankshaft pulley breakage. The reason is the destruction of the damper spring.

F4R- this engine, like a weaker motor, is not devoid of problems with a phase regulator (it fails every 60-70 thousand km), a crankshaft position sensor and a small resource of ignition coils (branded Sagem coils are considered the most problematic). In addition, other surprises may await the owners of a car with such a motor:

Increased oil consumption- the oil level in the engine must be closely monitored, as it is constantly disappearing somewhere. Like many used cars, part of the oil goes to waste, and what more mileage, the higher the consumption, the rest flows out through all kinds of gaskets. The most problematic area is the rear crankshaft oil seal.

Piston group- troubles with a piston can hit the pocket hard, the most common problem is burnout of pistons or valves. In the presence of problems, the noise of the engine (diesel) increases significantly.

Carbon deposits on candles- appears as a result of prolonged driving at low speeds or coasting.

Engine won't start- most often the culprit is the oxidized contacts of the crankshaft and freon pressure sensors. The fact is that they are tied to a common power supply circuit with other sensors, because of this, the motor cannot start.

Gasoline pump- often fails without serving even 100,000 km.

Throttle valve- quickly clogs up (the use of low-quality fuel speeds up this process), after which the engine does not start in the best way. The problem is solved by cleaning.

Resource- with proper maintenance, it runs 300-350 thousand km, after which a major overhaul is required.

Disadvantages of diesel engines:

K9K - one and a half liter power unit has a fairly simple design, despite this, problems with it can be quite serious.

Turns the crankshaft liners- this problem is usually faced by car owners with a mileage of 150,000 km or more. The reason is a decrease in the performance of the oil pump. If you delay for a long time with replacing the liners (100-120 cu), you will have to change the crankshaft (about 600 bucks).

Common Rail fuel system- very sensitive to fuel quality. Most often they fail - injectors (they start knocking, if the faulty injector is not changed, the pistons may burn out), the EGR valve and the particulate filter.

Injection pump system Delphi- over time, it begins to drive metal shavings, which clogs the nozzles, the fuel supply line and the tank. If it malfunctions, the motor starts to shake. Treatment - replacement of the injection pump is required, and in advanced cases, nozzles and lines.

Turbine- on many copies it fails up to 100,000 km. Reason - wear products of liners fall crankshaft that contribute to the destruction of the rotor bearing bushings.

Electrician- the boost pressure sensor and the crankshaft position often fail, other glitches are also possible.

F9Q- like a one and a half liter engine, it is not devoid of problems with the crankshaft liners, but unlike it, the problem occurs at a later run - 200-250 thousand km. Also, the failure of the boost sensors, crankshaft position and fuel injectors is considered a common occurrence.

Oil leaks- most often the engine stop flaps are leaking, the reason is the wear of the seals.

EGR valve- if you often drive at low speeds, the bistro valve becomes clogged with soot and gets jammed.

Turbine- often fails due to oil starvation. This is due to the lubrication supply line clogged with sludge. Turbine replacement will cost 300-400 USD.

M9R- the problem with the liners and the two-liter engine has not passed, since it is found here much less often than in previous engines. When saving on fuel, you need to be prepared for early failure of the fuel equipment, EGR valve and DPF filter (particulate matter). In addition, one more thing can be noted weakness of this motor - stretching the timing chain, this happens at a mileage of 120-150 thousand km.

Weaknesses of the transmission

Mechanics- the gearbox is reliable, its main drawback is the appearance of an oil leak at the junction of the clutch housing and gearbox. Also, on some specimens, jerking at the beginning of the movement may appear. To eliminate this trouble, you will have to replace the clutch kit. With careful operation, the clutch travels 120-150 thousand km.

Automatic transmission- the reliability of this transmission can be divided into two types - before and after restyling. In the first case, the box turned out to be problematic (it can fail after 50 thousand km of run), most often the culprit for premature box repair is - oil seal leaks, failure of the valve body of solenoid valves and torque converter. For cars produced after 2006, the first problems with the transmission, as a rule, arise after 120,000 km of run.

Disadvantages of the Renault Scenic II chassis

The suspension of the Renault Scenic II is quite comfortable, but on the first copies it did not differ in particular vitality. So, for example, wheel bearings could fail after 15-20 thousand km of run, and ball bearings rarely nursed more than 50,000 km. After restyling, the situation has improved significantly.

Average resource original elements front suspension:

  • Stabilizer struts - 50-70 thousand km.
  • Stabilizer bushings - 90-100 thousand km, it is not worth tightening with their replacement, as they quickly "eat up" the stabilizer.
  • Ball joints - 70-90 thousand km.
  • Hub bearings - 80-100 thousand km.
  • Shock absorbers and thrust bearings - their resource depends a lot on driving style and operating conditions, they run from 60,000 to 120,000 km.
  • Silent blocks - rarely require replacement before 150,000 km.

Rear suspension:

  • Silent blocks of a beam (change assembled with a beam) - serve 100-150 thousand km.
  • Springs rear shock absorbers- may ask for replacements closer to 200,000 km. The reason - the coil of the spring breaks off.

Steering- here the steering tips are considered problematic (they serve 40-60 thousand km, it is better to take an analogue for replacement) and the steering rack, or rather its right sleeve. Steering rods nurture up to 150,000 km.

Brake system- Renault Scenic II brakes are reliable, the only thing that can periodically cause problems is an electric handbrake, over time the cable will sour in it, because of this, the pads do not completely move away from the disc. Also, an unpleasant surprise in the form of a failure can be presented by a double relay on the handbrake control board - repairs cost $ 300-400.

Salon and electrics

The quality of materials and assembly is pretty good for an inexpensive car, the only thing that can be criticized is the insufficiently comfortable front seats (personal opinion of the author). But an electrician is able to present a lot of unpleasant surprises:

Frequent faults- malfunctions of the electric windows, the air recirculation system and the dashboard, the driver's airbag connection loop is often frayed.

Wiring rots- the cause of this trouble is moisture that gets into the passenger compartment if the drainage system under the hood is not cleaned. If there are problems with the wiring, a large number of electrical equipment begins to malfunction, and not only in the cabin.

Air conditioning- its weak point is the electromagnetic clutch and pressure sensors; also, even a slight wear of the system pipeline and seals at the joints can affect the performance of the air conditioner.

As a result:

Worth the money. This car can accommodate a large family with a lot of luggage. The car is unlikely to appeal to motorists who do not like to pay much attention to the car and fix minor jambs (noise insulation, plastic creak, etc.). Despite possible minor malfunctions, Renault Scenic II leaves a pleasant impression, thanks to a fairly high level of comfort. In addition, the functionality of this model with its broadest transformation possibilities is captivating.
