Well, very rarely above 7.5 liters per hundred. As a professional driver, I can adequately assess that the car is designed to quickly cover hundreds of kilometers.

The only thing is that I would like more active acceleration at speeds over 100. But in the city it’s quite enough. The expense for such a ship is decent. The Mercedes E-class does not provoke me to drive; I only drive economy. You roll for yourself and watch the bustle outside the window. The suspension is excellent (except for the runflat wheels with a low profile), moderately elastic, on Mercedes of older generations it is softer, now they are going the other way, I think it’s better. It “steers” excellently, even compared to the previous generation, much sharper, especially since you can change the steering wheel setting to a more sporty one. The only thing that makes me feel cold inside is sharp potholes on the road, then the body gets hit like a hammer on the fingers. But at least I have 10 fingers, and I have one car, or rather two (the second one is cheaper). Having driven around Europe in a rental Mazda 3 on runflat wheels, I can say that it’s also not a fountain; on excellent European roads it’s also a bit harsh on such tires. Mercedes is more comfortable on our roads.

The choice is obvious to me, since I only like E-shocks in the AMG package. It included: a panoramic roof, lowered suspension, R19 wheels, body kits and a number of others electronic systems. Among the options - white pearl color 114000. Audio system Burmistr 85000. Full power seats 120000. Additional noise insulation measures 110000. I travel a lot on the highway, I decided to try it. The car is very pleasant to drive and drive. So far I like everything. I'll add my feelings later.

Didn't order - listen to the miser. I'll listen, I didn't order it. The rest is silence. Of course, the car is not for winter, so the coming months will only show the exterior and interior. Fortunately, all processes in the graphs are drawn three (at least) times, and there are also a ton of output combinations. So the interesting mosaic will not be boring until spring, and then the asphalt will dry out.

We spent a very long time choosing a car for our beloved, and once we got into the Mercedes showroom, the choice in favor of the Mercedes E-class was definitely made. The interior of the car is simply gorgeous and attracts the attention of passersby. I can say unequivocally - Sport package for this car it was a must. We went for a test drive in a simpler car - it looks so-so. And when we looked at this model, everything became clear. Now a little more about some of the nuances of the Mercedes E-class. Suspension and smooth ride - that was a surprise for everyone, where the vaunted smooth ride and even the comfort mode do not allow you to enjoy a pleasant ride, of course, maybe the whole problem is in the “runflat” and it was decided to install normal tires in the winter to test this theory, the only bad luck is that you will have to carry spare tire in the trunk. Parking sensors - well, Mercedes can’t make parking convenient. I had to drive a lot in BMWs and Audis, where the work of the parking sensors is very clear and logical, but here everything is different, it beeps and that’s it - then it beeps only when there is absolutely nothing left. Moreover, they asked the dealer to fix it, but they said that this was not possible, and it was definitely not convenient to use the parking assistant. I can say that Burmester acoustics are a positive thing - they are definitely better than BOSE and Harman. Virtual panel - in comparison with other German cars, they approached it with soul, setting up this panel allows you to find the optimal and convenient option. How it was possible not to install a trunk closing button on such an expensive car, I personally don’t understand, this is not a Zhiguli, but a business class car, in one word - a disgrace. The dealer offered to install a power increase unit - this was very captivating. So while the car is pleasing with its appearance, it drives clearly mediocre. Mercedes is a beautiful picture, but in terms of practicality, convenience and driving characteristics clearly inferior to its competitors.

In general, having bought a Mercedes E-class and driven it, this is what I will tell you. I won’t buy a Japanese one again - it’s just an indescribable feeling, I’ve never felt such pleasure from a car. I still want to go somewhere quickly, even if I don’t really need to go there. The interior is just a fairy tale, it makes this car 10 out of 10. At night it’s like you’re driving a spaceship, the dynamic lighting does its job. The seats are comfortable, the on-board computer is simple and clear. The music "Burmister" is fire (there is even better, but the prices are higher). 2 liters of turbo is enough for the city, the acceleration is great. There were cameras all over the city and now I don’t accelerate above 70 at all, and it’s not just me, but the whole city. There is an “active sport” mode - this is when you barely touch the pedals and the car accelerates without delay, but I only drive in comfort. Four-wheel drive It drives confidently through snowdrifts and has never gotten stuck. Control. I don’t even know how to describe it, but you feel the car completely. You can say that you are one with the car, the Camry and the Phoenix, as if there were some kind of troughs after it. The lateral support of the seats helps a lot with this. The car is 19 hard. He really doesn't like rare holes. If you want to remove the hardness, you need to install 17 wheels and you will be happy, but I like 19, I won’t change (I saw that some comrades put 20). There are all sorts of tricks, like you open the trunk with your foot (it’s big, by the way), it parks itself (who needs it), it brakes itself if you’re lazy and you’re flying into someone’s ass. Suction cups on the doors (cool thing). The first maintenance cost only 30 thousand rubles (checking light bulbs 3 thousand rubles, checking air filter 3 thousand rubles. And so on). There is only one thing that infuriates me about the Mercedes E-class - the emergency warning button. It's not possible to get used to it at all.

However, the model had enough advantages. First of all, comfort has been improved through the use of a new active suspension, improved aerodynamics and a new mechatronic interior. In addition, passport requirements and, most importantly, real consumption fuel due to the transition mainly to engines with direct fuel injection, seven-speed automatic transmission, and also reduced aerodynamic drag. Special care was taken about safety: among the options there was a night vision system, radar for emergency braking and cruise control, a blind spot monitoring system, “smart” airbags, and lateral support adjustments. Well, the body, of course, has become even stronger.

The 2013 restyling was remembered by many precisely because one simply wouldn’t dare call it a facelift. The appearance was redesigned very thoroughly: the car received new head optics, and with the help of small touches the appearance was transformed incredibly - from a rough and faceted projectile, the car turned into an example of elegant style with an admixture of hi-tech. The interior has also been refined: it has more color and smooth lines, and also the gloomy gray plastic and massive steering wheel have been abandoned.

They also worked thoroughly with the technology - the line of gasoline engines was replaced with a new one in 2011, removing the fairly outdated and frankly unsuccessful engines of the M271 and M272 series. After restyling, the five-speed gearboxes of the 722.6 series were almost completely replaced by the seven-speed 722.9, and in 2014, the latest nine-speed gearbox was installed on the E350 BlueTech. LEDs have been installed in the optics, but the night vision system has been removed from the range of options. The model was produced in this form until 2016, when it was replaced by a completely new car in the back of the W 213, which became much more interactive, economical and, perhaps, even more comfortable.

As for reliability, there was no obvious reduction in the number of failures, and the cost of operation even increased, despite, in general, children’s age. I propose to look into this situation in a little more detail.

Body and interior

The oldest cars currently are approaching seven years old. It is still too early to talk about any punctures in the anti-corrosion protection; the cars are painted well, and traces of corrosion can only be found with a very careful inspection. Minimal damage to the joint sealant on the sill and trunk panels with barely visible traces of rust is definitely a bad sign. Such defects occur regularly, but so far they have not caused any particular problems. And most often they are associated with “shock loads” - primarily operation in hot summers, salty winters, diagonal distortions and racing on bad roads.


Obvious corrosion at seams or at the edges of arches and sills is very rare, unless, of course, the car has been in a serious accident with replacement of panels with non-original ones or serious work on straightening damaged elements. By and large, if you notice corrosion, then you don’t have to look at the car any further: these are the consequences of either an accident, or very harsh use; all other problems do not yet manifest themselves at such a young age.

Well, if you are looking far into the future, then look for a car with perfectly intact seam sealant and apply an additional layer of anti-corrosion on the bottom - the protection looks weak, despite the large amount of plastic, and the internal cavities need protection, the experience of past generations of the E-Class says that it is better to do this right away.

It is also recommended to clean the “aquarium” – the niche under the windshield. The drains are small and quickly become contaminated with the remains of leaves - this usually does not threaten the body, but there will be a lot of problems with the electrical part, and it will spill into the interior. Rubber seals dry out after three to five years, and then the interior floor covering will become wet.

The radiator brackets and various small things under the hood will tell you a lot about the operating conditions. On cars that spend the night in a damp underground garage or in a snowdrift on the street, light corrosion will be on many components and fasteners of the “hood” - this is a feature of many new and expensive cars.

A large number of plastic parts on the bottom and their price can play a cruel joke. Even if the metal of the body is impeccable, it takes a while to bring the car into ideal condition You may need a round sum of money. The aerodynamic panels of the engine compartment, fender liners (there was a recall campaign on the front ones) and in general all the lower plastic, including the lining of the suspension arms, are easily damaged. If an M271 series engine, the most common on these cars, is installed, and its oil cup is leaking, then the plastic of the engine compartment is most likely in very poor condition, even on cars produced in 2012-2013.

Peeling chrome, door handles and wiper blades are the problem with cars from Moscow and St. Petersburg; road chemicals quickly kill all decorative coatings.

On a car with a panoramic sunroof, the guides are at risk; they become dirty and creak. If you do not pay attention to this, you can burn the drive motor or break the rollers and levers of the system. And the very first rain will increase the number of problems many times over. By the way, the drainage of a panoramic sunroof gets clogged much faster than a simple one. It is worth blowing out every year and this must be done very carefully - the tubes are attached, to put it mildly, very weakly, they easily fly off when exposed to compressed air, after which you will have to remove the entire hatch mechanism and put the tubes on clamps.

Before restyling, the optics, both front and rear, quickly lose their seal and sweat. And the ignition units for xenon headlights and control units also collect moisture. In general, you need to be very careful when driving through puddles and washing the engine compartment; it is better to use special cleaners rather than water. There are enough electronic units here.

After restyling, the optics have become better; in any case, the headlights are not prone to fogging, but the beautiful “check marks” of the LED lights may go out. Their repair has already been mastered, but most services will offer to replace the entire headlight. Cars with LED low beams have a different problem: “eternal” LEDs actually last only a couple of years; they usually lose their luminosity in the summer, in traffic jams. It is strongly recommended to use only the DRLs in such conditions, and not the neighbors.

The Command multimedia system fails relatively rarely. Most often, failures are related to the module rear camera, it is connected directly to the “head” of the device and with a CD changer. A few more problems are caused by non-standard firmware with Russification and new navigation for cars from Europe; such software often works unstable.

Too many problems for a relatively new car? But pay attention, “E-shki” are exploited for slaughter. They work both as corporate cars and as “personal cars” for those who drive themselves and do not consider it an expensive limousine.

Electronics and electrical

In addition to the complexity of the problems, there is a minimum. It doesn’t break down very often, but if it does break down... If you don’t light a cigarette, don’t discharge the batteries, and monitor the serviceability of the generator, then all the complex electronic components work stably. Of the serious troubles, we can only remember the piezo injectors and the OM651 engine control unit, this is a 2.2 diesel. The injectors died, the block was changed along with them, but also more a new version The control unit sometimes loses power to the injectors. In general, Delphi electronics did not perform well. After the warranty period, all this is extremely reluctant to change, check when purchasing.


Electronic units in the engine compartment often suffer from leaks, especially the ignition and headlight control units. The keyless entry system is sensitive to strong interference, failures happen too often, and besides, it can simply drain the battery in just a day or two, giving false alarms. Otherwise, you just need to remember that all servos, displays and touch panels have a limited resource, and besides, these things are quite fragile. And those made by Mercedes are also expensive. There are very few machines that, when diagnosed, show a complete absence of errors and malfunctions in the operation of the actuators.

Brakes, suspension and steering

The brake system fully complies with brand standards: high quality all components and excellent work. The air suspension has become noticeably stronger, protection against road dirt has once again been improved, and pipelines and electronics, including all sensors, have become more reliable. The service life of the “pneuma” is more than 150 thousand kilometers, but it should rather be measured in years, because the wear of the elements is largely related to the age of the cylinders.

Electric power steering does not cause problems; it was installed on cars with gasoline engines of the M274, M276 series and some diesel engines. But the pump of a conventional power steering on the M272 and M271 does not differ in service life, which is affected by the high load on the unit when using wide tires. The resource of the rack, steering rods and tips is quite long - the tips and rods need to be checked and replaced closer to one hundred thousand kilometers, and the rack usually with a slight play does not require replacement even at runs of three hundred thousand kilometers. Failures of the Servotronic system (Mercedes calls this “parametric steering", surprisingly, are extremely rare.

Transmission

The mechanical boxes and the transmission itself are extremely reliable, fortunately they have been worked out for years. And even all-wheel drive transmission differs in resource and reliability. Unless the elements front gearbox and the front axle drives can fail over runs of up to hundreds of thousands of kilometers. Transfer case at risk only on all-wheel drive vehicles with a top-end three-liter diesel engine and on AMG versions.

WITH automatic transmissions everything is a little more complicated. Until 2011, most four-cylinder cars were equipped with an old and very reliable five-speed gearbox 722.6 series, long established and improved. By the way, the latest firmware for this unit dates back to 2014, with them the wear of the gas turbine linings is slightly reduced due to the less active operation of the “cold” blocking and an increase in the “adaptability” margin. By modern standards, it is a very reliable unit, with a service life of the mechanics and hydraulic unit of about 250-300 thousand kilometers, without “childish problems”. With timely replacement of the gas turbine engine blocking lining at mileages of 150-200 thousand kilometers and frequent replacement oil does not cause much trouble until the main clutches, bushings and planetary gears wear out. On E200 versions this automatic transmission can be found until 2013.


The automatic transmission of the 722.9 series, also known as 7G-tronic, which has been installed on six-cylinder versions of cars since 2009 and on other cars since 2011, cannot boast of such refinement and problem-free operation. The main difficulties were eliminated on the restyled W 211, but the W 212 also had its fair share of problems. And the first versions of 7Gtronic +, optimized for start-stop modes, also added failures. Failures of hydraulic units, wiring and overheating plague the boxes to this day. And, perhaps, this automatic transmission is one of the most serious shortcomings of post-restyling cars.

However, it, of course, has advantages: the fuel consumption of cars with a seven-speed automatic transmission is surprisingly low - in combination with gasoline “fours”, the average can be less than eight liters, and with the diesel OM651 – even less than six liters. It is highly recommended to change the oil every 30-40 thousand kilometers and install an external automatic transmission radiator, as well as remove the box thermostat.


Since 2014, BlueTech diesel models have also been equipped with a nine-speed 9G-tronic automatic transmission. Again, many “childish problems” were revealed, but at the moment they are being fixed under warranty, and there are almost no problems with overheating on diesel engines. With such an automatic transmission, fuel consumption is slightly reduced. In “highway” modes, diesel consumption drops below three liters per hundred, and this is for a two-ton car.

Engines

Pre-styling engines are mainly the “hit” of recent years in the form of the 1.8-liter M271 Evo engine with a compressor, as well as engines of the M272 series. By the time the W 212 was launched, most of the engine problems had been eliminated, although the M271 still has a low timing chain and sprocket life, and the M272 still periodically wears out the intake manifold and lifts the cylinders.

All engines of this generation too often suffer from oil leaks: on the M271, an unsuccessful “cup” of the filter is leaking, and on the M272, the heat exchanger is also leaking. Take a look at the list of problems with these motors: essentially, the difficulties are the same, but the age of the cars is less. But given the well-functioning design, serious problems arise only if all warnings are persistently ignored.

The main problem of the M272 - the short life of the timing chain - has receded. Motors of later years of production have a service life of this unit on average of about 200 thousand kilometers, and besides, the chain rarely jumps right away.
