The pluses include a large glazing area and, as a result, good overview, although, judging by the reviews about Toyota Venza, with a height of more than 190 cm, all this is not relevant.

The car has two engines to choose from - a 4-cylinder and a V6. The 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine produces 181 hp. at 5800 rpm and 182 Nm of torque at 4200 rpm. Fuel consumption is estimated by the EPA to be 11.7 liters in the city and 9 liters on the highway (front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models). Acceleration to 100 km / h is 6.7 seconds.

The 3.5-liter V6 has 268 hp. at 6200 rpm and 246 Nm of torque at 4700 rpm. It is very convenient, because, for example, for me, when landing in my former cars in a dirty season, I often had to shake off my trouser leg due to the fact that my leg was rubbing against the dirty outer part of the threshold. In this station wagon, this is excluded, because only the door from the outside gets dirty. The driver's seat looks like a home chair or even a sofa - it has almost no side supports, because of this, the driver's body is almost not fixed and a feeling of imposingness is created. Considering that in sports and dynamic performance this car does not stand out in any way, then, in principle, a special fixation of the driver is not needed here. Freedom, space and convenience - this is what you first feel while sitting behind the wheel of a Venza.

In terms of handling, one can note a very smooth ride, a suspension that absorbs all irregularities and an electric power steering with variable effort. At high speed, the steering wheel becomes heavier, this gives more stability when driving on the track. Outside the city, by the way, Venza rides like a tank - confidently and unshakably. Cheerful automatic transmission gears skillfully and in time changes gears in such a way as to maintain constantly that range of engine speeds at which the required torque is created. The low center of gravity of the car allows cornering with minimal heel, which, although felt, is negligible. This station wagon is also very stable due to the presence of the VSC stability control system.

In winter, this crossover is very warm. The engine warms up quickly and the stove works fine. Air vents for the rear passengers, passing through the center armrest, will keep them from freezing. The disadvantage of this solution is that the temperature in the armrest with the stove turned on is quite high and it will not work to store food there. And there is plenty of room in the center console. The armrest lid slides up to reveal a deep “drawer”, plus the lid with cup holders slides to the side to reveal another deep storage space. Venza is quite whimsical in the choice of fuel and eats gasoline no worse than AI-95. At the same time, the consumption for all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive versions of the crossover is slightly different. In urban conditions, Toyota with front-wheel drive consumes about 12.3 liters per 100 km, but when driving on the highway, this figure drops to 7.1 liters. According to the manufacturer, in mixed mode, the car will consume a little more than nine liters.

Four-wheel drive consumes a little more fuel. The city is characterized by indicators at the level of 13.3 liters per hundred, for the highway - eight liters. Mixed mode consumes about 10 liters of fuel.

Recall that the above figures correspond to a 2.4-liter engine. The older 3.5-liter unit will not be sold in Russia due to a banal conflict of interest. A similar top-end six-cylinder engine is installed on another crossover from Toyota - Highlander, which is both more expensive and sells well. Apparently, the manufacturers had concerns that when installing a more powerful engine in the Toyota Venza, customers would buy it, and not more expensive cars.


The Venza has a fully independent suspension, both at the rear and at the front. Here MacPherson stands are used, which are specially tuned taking into account not very high-quality roads, so typical for Russia. The front wheels are equipped with ventilated brake discs, while the rear wheels are equipped with non-ventilated ones.


Even the basic equipment boasts a rich set of electronic assistants: brake assist system, brake force distribution system, anti-lock braking system, traction control as well as an uphill start assist system.

With a quiet ride, the Venza shows softness and swallows almost all the bumps in the road. As long as there are no large pits and bumps, you can drive at speed even on a dirt road. There are no suspension breakdowns even when overcoming large irregularities, but this should not be abused. Many experts consider the Japanese car Honda Crosstour to be among the competitors of Toyota Venza. However, the Crosstour is a clean all-rounder with not very high driving performance... Until recently, the Toyota Venza crossover was intended exclusively for sales in the North American market. However, with the release updated version Venza 2014 model year, presented at the prestigious auto show in New York, became a crossover in Russia.

City car

Objectively speaking, the Venza is not a full-fledged crossover in the conventional sense. If we approach the classification strictly, this model is rather a versatile all-terrain vehicle that occupies an intermediate niche between traditional station wagons and crossovers.
