Yeti 2009-2014 years of release for the Russian market can be equipped with gasoline engines of 1.2 liters (105 HP), 1.4 liters (122 HP - from 04.2013), 1.8 liters (152 hp) or diesel 2.0 l (140 hp - from 02.2013). For the younger gasoline engines 1,2 and 1,4, transmissions were offered: a mechanical 6-speed or a robotic 7-speed with two DSG clutches. For the 1.8 liter version, which is equipped with 4x4 all-wheel drive, there is a manual 6-speed gearbox or a robotic 6-speed DSG with a wet clutch. The version with a 2.0 liter turbodiesel implies only an all-wheel drive modification with DSG-6. The diesel 2.0 TDI is the most economical in terms of average fuel consumption (6.5 l / 100 km). If we talk about such an indicator as acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h, the most dynamic is the all-wheel drive version 1.8 TSI: 8.7 seconds. for "mechanics" and 9 sec. for the "robot").

Built on the Volkswagen A5 (PQ35) platform, the Skoda Yeti has independent suspension on all wheels: front McPherson type with wishbones and anti-roll bar, rear multi-link with anti-roll bar. Rack and pinion steering includes an electromechanical amplifier as standard. Disc brakes are used at the front and rear (front ventilated). With a wheelbase of 2578 mm, the minimum turning radius is 5.2 m. Good cross-country ability for a compact urban crossover is ensured by the following geometric indicators: approach angle - 19 °, exit angle 26.7 °, ground clearance height 180 mm. All-wheel drive in the Yeti is realized thanks to the 4th generation Haldex clutch. Off-road mode includes a number of functions: hill descent assist or start assist, adaptation of active safety systems to road conditions and deceleration of the accelerator pedal.

The standard equipment of the Skoda Yeti includes front airbags (driver and front passenger), front side airbags, which reduce the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger in the event of a side impact; protective head restraints for front WOKS seats, ISOFIX mountings, third head restraint in the rear row of seats. In more expensive trim levels, a driver's knee pad is added to this list. The standard anti-lock braking system is complemented by a brake force distribution (EBD) system, stability control system, traction control system, tire monitoring system and other equipment. The car received five stars in the EuroNCAP crash test.

Skoda Yeti is perfect for the role of a family car. Possibilities of transformation are provided by the VarioFlex system, which allows you to adjust the position of the rear seats in all directions, fold them in a 40-20-40 ratio, and also completely remove them to form a flat trunk floor. In the standard position, the trunk has a volume of 405 liters, the maximum volume is 1760 liters. When choosing a used car, the 1.8 TSI version with an increased power reserve (and therefore resource) is preferable, moreover, a more reliable robotic DSG 6 was put in tandem with this motor. Of the Yeti's shortcomings, owners often note poor interior heating in winter (especially with the base engine 1,2). The crossover also has some liquidity problems.

The Czech automobile company Skoda has seriously and responsibly approached the design and preparation for serial production of its first crossover, Skoda Yeti. Having shown the prototype of the Yeti Concept at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, the Czechs have been bringing their brainchild to perfect condition for four long years.

The premiere of the serial crossover Skoda Yeti took place in 2009 in the same place, on the shores of Lake Geneva. Regular visitors of the exhibition were able to note a pleasant fact - the Czech SUV, ready for production, managed to preserve the original appearance of the Yeti Concept, which has been aged for four years.
In Russia, motorists were able to contemplate the first crossover from Škoda in the same fall of 2009, when the car appeared in car dealerships. Almost three years have passed since the start of sales, a sufficient time to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the car. As part of the review, we will try to find out whether the Czech company Skoda managed to successfully "bake" its first crossover and whether it turned out to be "lumpy".

From the moment of its debut to this day, the appearance of the Skoda Yeti has not undergone any changes. The front part of the car with four original headlights, round ones serve as daytime running lights and also foglights, rectangular segments are responsible for the low and high beam. The radiator grille is designed in the Skoda family style and is decorated with a chrome strip on top, a powerful bumper with a lower air duct framed by a silver frame. When viewed from the front, the Skoda Yeti is recognizable and original, it is impossible to confuse the Czech crossover with another car even in the dark.
In profile, the Yeti SUV demonstrates the organic image of a station wagon raised high above the road. The sloping bonnet, powerful wheel arches with characteristic stampings will easily mix tires on 215/60 R16 or 225/50 R17 disks. Large glass area, high and flat roof, vertical rear. Calmness and severity, complete absence of aggression, every line and bend of the body is aimed at functionality and practicality.
The crossover looks compact, it confirms this with its external dimensions. With a body size of 4223 mm in length, 1793 mm in width, 1691 mm in height and a wheelbase of 2578 mm, the car is smaller than its main competitors Kia Sportage, SsangYong Actyon, Suzuki Grand Vitara and even Nissan Qashqai. The ground clearance of the Skoda Yeti according to the manufacturer is 180 mm, in real conditions measurements show other figures - 165-167 mm, which will not be enough even for a "SUV". The approach angle was also very small, only 18.5 degrees (you can easily tear off the front bumper). I am glad that the exhaust system and transmission are located in the depression of the central tunnel, there is protection for the engine compartment, the bottom is flat with a polymer coating, only the strongly protruding rear suspension arms and a gas tank are of concern.

The rear of the crossover with a large and comfortable tailgate, a bumper made of unpainted plastic with an insert at the bottom a la diffuser, neat shades of parking lights. The original solution in the form of contrasting (black) to the main color of the rear roof pillars, along with large side and rear windows, give the car lightness and make the interior lighter.

Let's summarize the appearance data and the readiness of the Skoda Yeti body to exit from the asphalt pavement. The car is compact and well tailored. We can safely say stylish, body workmanship and anti-corrosion treatment are correct in German, transmission and chassis elements are protected from off-road surprises, but ... before leaving the hard surface, think once again and calculate the trajectory of geometric cross-country ability.

The Skoda Yeti salon is qualitatively assembled from solid materials, but over time, the interior elements, when driving through the unevenness of the road, begin to creak. The driver's seat with rigid padding, wide-spaced lateral support rollers (thin owners do not have enough body fixation in turns) and an upright seating position. Perfectly getting behind the wheel is a difficult task, even in a car equipped with an electric driver's seat on a long journey, the back gets tired.
The steering wheel is of the optimal size with telescopic adjustment in height and depth, devices in two separate wells are beautiful and informative, between them there is an on-board computer screen. The front dashboard and the center console are of a classic configuration, the placement of the controls is logical and does not cause a problem of long getting used to.
The basic version of Active, however, only with audio preparation, but with the next Ambition configuration for the Skoda Yeti, a 2DIN radio tape recorder with CD MP3 and 8 speakers is available, in rich Elegance music with a multifunctional color Maxi Dot display. An air conditioner is installed in the two initial configurations, and in the maximum, dual-zone climate control.
Heated first row seats with microlift. In the second row, thanks to the VarioFlex system (longitudinal adjustment and tilt of the backrest of the side seats, folding the seats and complete dismantling), three passengers under 190 cm tall can comfortably sit. There is enough space for both legs and overhead. But the high transmission tunnel will interfere with the person sitting in the center. The middle chair can be removed altogether, and the two side ones can be moved closer to the center (two people have a lot of space).

The trunk of the Skoda Yeti crossover is small by the standards of the class and can accommodate from 405 to 510 liters (depending on the position of the rear seats) with five passengers. Folding the rear row, we get 1580 liters, and removing the rear seats from the passenger compartment - 1760 liters of usable volume.
Inside, the Skoda Yeti is cozy and comfortable, it is convenient to get in and out of the car thanks to the wide doors that open at a large angle, but there were some small flaws. Owners complain about a small glove box, miniature rear-view mirrors, quickly dirty side skirts (saved on rubber door seals) and glass in the fifth door.

If we talk about the technical characteristics of the Skoda Yeti, then this Czech crossover is built on the Skoda Octavia platform, inherited from its sister Yeti a completely independent suspension (MacPherson strut front, multi-link rear), all-wheel drive transmission with Haldex clutch (4th generation).
The Skoda Yeti crossover for the Russian market is available with three gasoline engines:

  • 1.2 TSI (105 hp) with 6 manual gearbox or 7 automatic gearbox (DSG) and front-wheel drive, acceleration to 100 km / h in 11.8 (12.0) seconds at a maximum speed of 175 (173) km / h, average fuel consumption 6.4 (6.6) liters. From the owners' reviews, the average fuel consumption is 1-1.5 liters more, it all depends on the driving style. The initial engine of 105 "horses" is clearly not enough for a car weighing under 1400 kg, many owners reflash the engine control unit and raise the engine output to 120 hp. (the car becomes "livelier", the fuel consumption remains at the same level).
  • 1.4 TSI (122 hp) with 6 manual gearbox (or DSG) and front-wheel drive, dynamics up to "hundreds" in 10.5 seconds. at a maximum speed of 185 km / h, the average fuel consumption is 6.8 liters.
  • 1.8 TSI (152 hp) with 6 manual gearbox or 6 automatic gearbox (DSG) and an all-wheel drive system, the most powerful engine installed on the crossover provides acceleration to 100 km / h in 8.7 (9.0) seconds, with a maximum speed 196 (192) km / h, fuel consumption in mixed mode of operation is 8.0 liters. This is a truly crossover, with a powerful and high-torque engine, and most importantly, with all-wheel drive and Off-road mode that helps on descents.

We will not talk for a long time about the off-road potential of the Czech Skoda Yeti, the car is really poorly adapted for storming rough terrain. And many owners do not risk leaving the hard surface of the road, urban crossovers, to which the hero of our review belongs, is a class of cars artificially created by marketers.
Here is the asphalt for the Skoda Yeti - this is a native element, the car demonstrates excellent handling and steering information content, a stiff and short-travel suspension sensitively holds the road at almost any speed, and how nice it is to take turns on the Yeti ... hot hatchback. Suspension settings, of course, make themselves felt when passing "lying cops", especially in the rear of the car.

Summing up our review, I would like to say that the Yeti turned out from the designers and designers to be original and original, with modern technical stuffing and a cozy interior, which provides a lot of opportunities for transformation.

Let's say right away that the Skoda Yeti is assembled at factories in Mlada Boleslavl (Czech Republic) and GAZ (Nizhny Novgorod). In 2012, the price for the Skoda Yeti for the Russian market starts at 739,000 rubles for the Active package (1.2 TSI / 105 hp with 6 manual gearboxes, where there is: air conditioning, audio preparation, Servotronic power steering, tires on steel rims 215/60 R16 ).
The cost of the Skoda Yeti 4x4 1.8 TSI (152 hp) with 6AKP (DSG) in the rich Elegance configuration starts from 1,089,000 rubles (climate control, Maxi Dot display, tires on Dolomite 225/50 R17 alloy wheels, cruise control, parking sensors ).
By ordering additional options in the form of a leather interior, a navigator, bi-xenon headlights, a parking assistant and other "chips", we will get an increase in the price of the 2012 Skoda Yeti to almost 1,500,000 rubles.

Yeti is a front- or all-wheel drive SUV of the compact segment and, in combination, the first car of a "similar format" in the history of the Czech automaker Skoda, which organically combines the features of crossovers and minivans ...

The main target audience of the five-door is family people with one or more children, with an income above average, who value, in the "iron horse", first of all, unique design, reliability, safety, comfort and functionality ...

"Yeti" is based on a "front-wheel drive" platform called Volkswagen PQ35 - this aggregate base is well known from many Skoda and Volkswagen models (however, the closest relative to the Czech crossover is still the first generation Tiguan). The machine has a supporting body structure, in the load-bearing structure of which high-strength steels are widely used.

Security

It is worth noting that back in 2009 the car became a "round excellent" according to the results of the European crash tests Euro NCAP, earning the maximum possible "5 stars".

But it should be borne in mind that the test car was "in the European basic", i.e. equipped with seven airbags and active front head restraints, while the maximum number of airbags sold in Russia is six (and there are two of them in the "base").

The first crossover in the history of the Czech automaker was "born" in March 2009 - its international debut took place at the Geneva Motor Show ...

In September 2013, the restyled Skoda Yeti appeared in all its glory at the stands of the Frankfurt Motor Show to the world community.

As a result of the renovation, the SUV has seriously changed its appearance (but in particular - the full face, having received more restrained headlight units instead of the recognizable round optics), acquired small metamorphoses in the cabin, "armed" with a new environmentally friendly engine and received new options.
Another important innovation is the emergence of an all-terrain modification called Outdoor.

The Czech SUV stopped its serial "career" at the beginning of 2018 - it was replaced by a new SUV called Karoq.

Yeti on the Russian market

Skoda Yeti, although a belated participant in the "crossover boom", but it very successfully "fit into the market", and even distinguished itself by a number of interesting features.

For example, it pleasantly surprises with its original, "minivan" body folding, as well as an ergonomic, practical and functional interior.

In addition, a significant role in the success of the crossover was played by the "German ancestry", and in general, the good reputation of the Czech automaker in the eyes of Russian consumers.

In the Russian market, the Skoda Yeti had a really hard time, since it has more than enough competitors. The most obvious of them are: Subaru XV, Nissan Qashqai and Terrano, Jeep Compass, Suzuki Vitara and SX4, Mitsubishi ASX, Renault Kaptur and Hyundai Creta ... the compact SUV segment, in terms of dimensions it is more comparable to subcompact SUVs.

Exterior

Outside, "Yeti" can hardly be called a model of beauty and harmony, and it is not particularly perceived as a full-fledged SUV - the car with its outlines rather resembles commercial "heels". But originality is the main horse of the five-door, because this is what it catches the eye with, without causing any rejection, and upon closer examination, it begins to surprise at all with its ingenuous charm.

The pre-styling crossover is incredibly easy to recognize, especially from the front - it flaunts a "four-eyed face" with round foglights that mate directly with the head optics.

After the upgrade, the Skoda Yeti has lost this "zest", attaching restrained lighting equipment and fog lights to the front, located in their traditional places - on the sides of the lower part of the bumper.

In addition, the redesigned car gives out more angular bumpers, taillights with C-shaped brake lights and LED sections, as well as a trapezoidal niche for the number plate (instead of the previous rectangular one).

On top of that, the restyled SUV can be found in two versions - City and Outdoor.

The "urban" modification is distinguished by bumpers and moldings painted in body color and its own line of alloy wheels, while the "suburban" one has off-road decor in the form of unpainted plastic "armor" along the perimeter of the body and front pseudo-protection (that is, a silver lining on the bumper).

As the saying goes “there are no comrades for the taste and color” - some people like “Yeti”, in others it causes conflicting feelings, while others are simply frightened by its originality.

And, it would seem - what significant drawbacks can there be in such a "practical" car? However, they are, and very significant:

  • Low quality iron and paint. The paint swells quickly at chipped sites - this phenomenon is most often observed in the area of \ u200b \ u200bthe rear wheel arches and on all four doors. It is for this reason that it is recommended to wash the car as often as possible, but especially in the winter period after driving on streets treated with reagents.

    In addition, after a few years of operation, the logos on the hood and tailgate begin to peel off the crossover, and chrome also darkens.

  • Far from ideal aerodynamics, which makes this SUV a terrible "muddy": in bad weather, the side windows in the area of the mirrors are quickly splashed with mud (noticeably limiting the view), as well as the tailgate, rear window and bumper.
  • "Delicate" windshield and headlights. The lobovik is quickly overwritten and scratched, and chips appear on it very readily, while the headlights become cloudy.

Weight and dimensions

The manufacturer Skoda Yeti is positioned as a compact SUV (although in terms of dimensions it is even inferior to many models of the subcompact category): its length fits into 4222 mm (of which the wheelbase "extends" to 2578 mm), the width is 1793 mm, and the height does not exceed 1691 mm.

The ground clearance of the off-road vehicle is 180 mm, while the size of the front and rear track is 1541 mm and 1537 mm, respectively.

Regarding the curb and full weight, these indicators for the car depend on the modification:

Interior

Thoughtful minimalism reigns inside the Skoda Yeti - the car's interior looks thoroughly calibrated and surprisingly "grown-up", but it upsets with excessive restraint and even gloom.

True, such an unremarkable design is more than compensated for by impeccable ergonomics, solid finishing materials and good build quality - as they say, everything here is smart and everything is on the case, but boring.

At the driver's seat - academic order: in the direct jurisdiction of the "pilot" there are exemplary "instrumentation" with two "wells" in which the analog dials are placed, and the "window" of the onboard computer between them, as well as a three-spoke steering wheel.

In the initial versions, the "steering wheel" is extremely simple in appearance and lacks any additional features, but in the "advanced" trim levels it can boast of multifunctionality, a more developed relief with tides in the grip area and chrome and glossy decor.

By default, the laconic center console is “decorated” with a pair of symmetrical ventilation deflectors, a two-din radio with a monochrome display and three neat “washers” of the air conditioning system.
A bit of "elegance" in expensive versions is exalted by the color 7-inch touchscreen of the multimedia complex, under which there is a visual block of a two-zone "climate" and five control buttons for secondary functions.

In general, in the Yeti salon it is difficult to seriously find fault with anything, however, here too there is the same “fly in the ointment”:

  • Poor visibility - wide A-pillars and a low seat force the driver to actively twist his head to the sides, especially when maneuvering at intersections with pedestrian crossings.
  • In general, the build quality of the car is good, however, the plastic panels of the struts and the ceiling begin to "groan" on irregularities even with low mileage.
  • "Cold" interior (especially - in versions with low-volume engines), or to be more precise - a long warm-up. When the frost is below -20 ° C at idle, it takes at least half an hour to warm up the "apartments", while more or less warm inside becomes only after the start of movement.
  • And also the uneven heating of the interior decoration: for example, it can be hot in the car, but the legs will freeze, if it is comfortable for the legs, then foggy windows overcome, and if you need to provide normal heat to the inhabitants of the second row, the front ones will feel like they are in "Sahara" ...

Despite the modest wheelbase, the Skoda Yeti interior pleasantly surprises with its spaciousness - even five adults can sit here without any problems. Front riders rely on ergonomically profiled seats with pronounced lateral support rollers, dense padding and a wide range of adjustments (including height).

In the "base" the car does not have any additional amenities, but in more expensive versions there is a central front armrest, as well as heating, electric drive and seat memory.

The organization of the second row of the crossover is almost exemplary among competitors (and not only). The five-door has a sofa with an optimal shape and filling, divided into three parts, as well as a solid supply of free space on all fronts, without exception.
At the same time, rear passengers are not deprived of comfort elements - the "gallery" moves in the longitudinal direction in the range of 15 cm and has a backrest adjustable in tilt angle (in four fixed positions), folding tables stick out in the front seats, and ventilation deflectors are located on the floor central tunnel ...

But that's not all - in the "top" trim levels, the transformation of the interior allows you to make the car a four-seater by removing the central narrow part of the sofa and moving the side seats closer to each other.

If we take into account the "dry" numbers, then in terms of internal capacity, the compact SUV has the following indicators:

Luggage compartment

At first glance, it may seem that in terms of carrying capacity, the Skoda Yeti simply has nothing to brag about - the car has a rather modest volume, but has an almost regular shape of the trunk, which, in addition to everything, is flavored with fastening nets and practical hooks.

In its normal state, it is able to accommodate 322 liters of luggage (under the shelf), but the second row moving "along the sled" allows you to increase this figure to 405 liters.

But most of all, the crossover impresses with its transformation capabilities - the "gallery" is folded in three sections in the ratio "40:20:40", which brings the capacity of the "hold" to 1665 liters. In addition, the rear seats can be dismantled altogether (both completely and in parts), as well as take out the small "spare wheel" with tools and unscrew the foam caches hidden under the raised floor - in this case, the useful volume will be 1760 liters and you get even cargo area.

And that's not all - on some Yeti you can find a front seat with a folding back (optional equipment), which allows you to transport items up to 2.5 meters long in the cabin.

Specifications

On the Russian market, the Czech crossover is offered with a wide range of power units:

  • Gasoline "turbo four" TSI (installed by default on pre-styling versions) with a working volume of 1.2 liters (1197 cm³) with direct injection, variable valve timing and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, developing 105 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 175 Nm of torque at 1500-3500 rpm.
  • Gasoline 1.6-liter (1598 cm³) "aspirated" MPI (became the base after the update) with four in-line cylinders, distributed "power" system, variable valve timing technology and 16 valves, which generates 110 hp. at 5800 rpm and 155 Nm of peak thrust at 3800 rpm.
  • A 1.4 liter TSI petrol engine (1395 cc) with a cast iron block, compact turbocharger, direct fuel injection, intake phase shifters and 16-valve timing, producing 125 hp. at 5000-6000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1400-4000 rpm.
  • 1.8-liter (1798 cc) TSI "four" with turbocharging, direct fuel supply, variable valve timing and DOHC timing with 16 valves, which produces 152 hp. at 5000 rpm and 250 Nm of rotational potential at 1500 rpm.
  • The only diesel engine - 2.0 TDI (1968 cm³) with a battery injection system, a variable geometry turbocharger, a two-stage oil pump and a 16-valve timing, producing 140 hp. at 4000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm.

The Skoda Yeti also has a wide range of gearboxes:

  • The atmospheric engine combines 5-speed "mechanics" or 6-band hydromechanical "automatic".
  • The 1.2 and 1.4 liter turbochargers in tandem are assigned a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-range "robot" DSG with "dry" clutches.
  • Engines 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI relies on the uncontested robotic gearbox DSG with six steps with "wet" discs.

On modifications of the crossover with 1.2-, 1.4- and 1.6-liter units, only a front-wheel drive transmission is installed, while only an all-wheel drive system “built” on the basis of an electronically controlled Haldex clutch (on pre-styling models - the fourth generation, and on the updated ones - the fifth).

By the way, in the company itself, the Yeti all-wheel drive is called permanent, and they are partly right - even in ideal conditions, the clutch works with a small preload (sending 10% of the thrust to the rear axle wheels), and if the road situation worsens, the automation can send up to 50 % of the moment.

In general, Skoda Yeti can boast of fairly reliable engines, which are able to travel 200-300 thousand km before overhaul.

However, none of them were without troubles:

All gasoline turbo engines are supplied with a timing chain drive - theoretically, the chain is designed for the entire life of the engine, but in practice it requires replacement after 100-120 thousand km. At the same time, they are characterized by such a problem as the chain jumping over the gear teeth due to stretching and the connivance of an unsuccessful tensioner, which in the most unfavorable circumstances can lead to the repair of the "heart" with bent valves.

Among other things, common misfortunes for "turbo-fours" are unpleasant vibrations at idle, demanding fuel quality, increased "oil consumption" and long warm-up in severe frosts.

The "aspirated" SUV, the only one in the range, does not cause much trouble, but requires renewal of the timing belt at least every 100-120 thousand km. In addition, such a unit with high mileage may have a high oil consumption, but, as a rule, this is solved by replacing the camshaft seals.

As for the 2.0 TDI turbodiesel, it is one of the least problematic engines under the Yeti's hood. True, the guarantee of his long and happy life is high-quality diesel fuel: in this case, expensive injectors and high-pressure fuel pumps will last at least 100 thousand km. The timing belt is able to "pass" about the same amount, but then it is better to replace it.

The manual transmissions installed on the crossover are reliable and unpretentious, not causing any special complaints. As a rule, they may require a certain intervention only with a mileage of more than 100 thousand km - for example, replacing differential bearings, leaking oil seals and clutch. According to the regulations, the oil in the manual gearbox of the five-door is filled for the entire service life, but it is advisable to renew it every 60 thousand km.

From the unpleasant - in severe frosts, "manual" transmissions have problems with the inclusion of the first two gears, which is solved by warming up for 5-10 minutes at idle.

The classic 6-speed "automatic" is also good on the Czech off-road vehicle: firstly, it works without kicks and freezes; secondly, with a timely oil change (every 60-80 thousand km), it can serve the entire life of the car.

The robotic DSG7 with dry clutches is one of the weaknesses of the Skoda Yeti, especially in the early models. It not only causes inconvenience with "jerky" work, but also does not differ in an increased resource - its most problematic places are the "mechatronics" block and the clutch, which can "run out" after 20-30 thousand km.

"Wet" DSG6 gearbox is much more reliable and, with timely maintenance (oil and filter change every 60 thousand km), it will not cause any serious trouble to the owner.

The general attack of the DSG robots is that they are not very fond of Russian frosts - for normal driving in the cold season, at least a short (5-10 minutes) warming up of the car at idle is required.

Otherwise, in the "Drive" mode, unpleasant vibrations and knocking can be annoying and an eyebrow error on the on-board computer screen.

All-wheel drive modifications of the SUV are equipped with a Haldex clutch - the main thing here is to renew the oil every 60 thousand km: if this procedure is neglected, the electric booster pump may fail, the repair of which will cost a pretty penny.

In general, the Czech crossover demonstrates good off-road potential - it is able to plow paths where many of its “classmates” simply cannot reach, and all thanks to the same electronically controlled clutch that skillfully distributes the moment, works with preload and works without delay.

As for the indicators of dynamics and efficiency, here at Skoda Yeti things are as follows:

Chassis

Standard "Yeti" is equipped with independent suspensions:

  • at the front, a MacPherson-type design with lower wishbones is used,
  • behind - a multi-link system with one longitudinal and three wishbones.

"Around" - with coil springs and anti-roll bars.

As for the chassis, here the crossover can be considered a "round excellent student" - it holds a straight line with reinforced concrete, even if the asphalt is damaged by the track. To many, the "hodovka" of this five-door will initially seem a little harsh, since it unnecessarily conveys the profile of the roadway to the senses, but almost everyone in the end recognizes it as really comfortable - the suspension copes with all large potholes and does not allow swinging on the waves.

But the main advantage of the chassis is the highest endurance: it does not cause any trouble and does not need serious intervention, even at high mileage. Unless only at the turn of 70-100 thousand km, the stabilizer struts will have to be replaced, and nothing more.

Steering

Regardless of the configuration "Yeti" is equipped with rack and pinion steering with an electromechanical amplifier.

Maneuverability is one of the main advantages of this compact crossover: it perfectly takes turns, even despite its high silhouette, allows you to confidently maneuver in dense city traffic and easily avoid obstacles that suddenly appear on the way.

In addition, the car boasts an almost perfect power amplifier setting - its steering wheel is light, but informative.

Brake system

Disc brakes are applied on all wheels of the car, but if on the rear axle they are conventional, then on the front axle they are ventilated, with a single-piston floating caliper.

The five-door and the brakes do not deserve any complaints - they quite effectively cope with the tasks assigned to them.

In terms of reliability, there are no special problems here, except that every 30-40 thousand km it is worth changing the front brake pads, and every 80 thousand km - the rear ones (but these are consumables).

Prices and equipment

In the Russian secondary market, you can find many supported Skoda Yeti options with a wide range in price, and the most common cars are with a 1.2-liter engine, a "robot" and a front-wheel drive transmission, while diesel options, on the contrary, are extremely rare.

Crossovers of the early years of production are offered at a price of ≈400 thousand rubles, versions with a turbodiesel will cost from ≈600 thousand rubles, and all-wheel drive modifications with a 1.8-liter engine start at ≈450 thousand rubles *.

If you want a restyled car, then you should prepare at least ≈ 500 thousand rubles for a low-power version with front-wheel drive, and for a version with a 1.8 TSI engine and an all-wheel drive system, you will have to pay from ≈700 thousand rubles *.

The “freshest” copies of the off-road vehicle cannot be bought cheaper than ≈800-850 thousand rubles for simple configurations, while for the “top-end” versions you will have to pay from ≈1.2 million rubles *.

As for the equipment, in the "base" Skoda Yeti has:

  • two front airbags;
  • black roof rails;
  • electromechanical power steering;
  • power windows for the front doors;
  • interior transformation system VarioFlex;
  • air conditioning;
  • 16-inch steel wheels;
  • heating and electric drive of outside mirrors;
  • cooled glove box;
  • audio preparation with four speakers;
  • electric heating of the washer nozzles.

"Top" configurations are able to boast of a much more "tasty" list of equipment (however, they could be retrofitted with the widest number of options):

  • six airbags;
  • dual-zone climate control;
  • 17-inch alloy wheels;
  • Cruise control;
  • heated front seats;
  • four power windows;
  • audio system with eight speakers;
  • multifunction steering wheel with leather sheath;
  • fog lights;
  • stabilization system (ESP);
  • help function when starting up the hill;
  • LED tail lights.

* as of early 2019.

In general, the Skoda Yeti is an amazingly versatile car that can hardly be called unambiguously a family, youth or old man. This is a comfortable and functional crossover with "nimble" motors, high-quality performance and impressive interior transformation capabilities, allowing a little more conventional cars and not annoying with serious problems.

If you need a car for purely urban operation or long distance travel on the highway, then almost any version of it is suitable here, however, for off-road excursions (although it can hardly be called such), the choice is limited only to modifications with 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines. because only they have an all-wheel drive system. The same versions will be the most preferable for those who like dynamic driving, as they have the best power indicators.

If reliability is a priority, it is best to pay attention either to cars with manual or automatic transmissions, or again to solutions with 1.8- and 2.0-liter engines.

In 2009, the Czech model Skoda Yeti literally burst into the Russian market of crossover cars. He conquered the Yeti (that is, "Bigfoot") primarily with excellent technical characteristics and comfort, making tangible competition to such models as Nissan Qashqai, Mitsubishi ASX, Hyundai ix35 or Kia Sportage.

"Yeti" in colors and sizes

The Skoda Yeti was created on the Volkswagen A5 platform, which is quite logical: in 1990, Volkswagen AG became a co-owner of the Skoda enterprise, which merged into the German concern, which had previously absorbed the German Audi and the Spanish Seat.

I must say that the idea of creating an SUV (and in terms of driving performance, the Skoda Yeti is very close to this class of cars, which will be discussed below) did not arise out of nowhere. Since the 30s of the last century, the automobile enterprise had experience in creating army and even tanks (there is a legend that the last of three hundred light tanks of Czech production was knocked out in 1941 near Moscow).

Of course, "Yeti" neither externally nor from the inside even remotely hints at the turbulent military past of the Skoda brand. The exterior of the car is moderately peaceful, but still not without a hint of its off-road purpose: the overall dimensions of the Skoda Yeti (length 4.22, width 1.8, height 1.65 meters) and, most importantly, the clearance increased to 18 cm indicate clearly extraordinary abilities, which are fully manifested in the all-wheel drive version.

The body colors of the Skoda Yeti also offer a choice between an aggressive SUV and a peaceful SUV. There are exactly a dozen of them - from neutral white and silver to brutal black and green.

Skoda Yeti body palette:

  • black
  • Red
  • burgundy
  • Brown
  • green
  • blue
  • blue
  • Gray
  • beige
  • silver
  • White.

Luggage space and interior comfort

To match the external dimensions of the car and the interior, the height of which is from 1.08 m at the front to 1.03 m at the rear. The luggage compartment is very voluminous even with the rear seats folded out - 410 liters, and in their folded position - up to 1760 liters.

I must say that the designers treated the rear row of seats of the five-seater station wagon with special love, making it transformable. The so-called VarioFlex system, where the row consists of three separate seats, allows, in the absence of a central one, to move the outer seats to each other by 8 cm each. The panoramic roof, which is also equipped with a sunroof and an electric curtain, allows passengers during the trip to do some distraction-entertaining business, for example, counting a crow.

In general, the interior, made in the original two-color solution, is very convenient: full power accessories and such nice little things as a lot of trunks and glove compartments for small items create the maximum comfort possible while driving.

Increased attention is paid to the safety of the driver and passengers. Depending on the configuration, a pair of front ones can be supplemented with four side ones. The Yeti's crash tests have shown exceptional results in terms of vehicle reliability, having received the highest rating in Euro NCAP. Passive safety features ingenious technologies such as bi-xenon headlights with cornering lights and more than a dozen other driver assistance aids ranging from traction control (ABS) to DSR.

Moreover, even such a moment as "interference from behind" is taken into account, that is, during sudden braking, emergency stop signals are automatically turned on.

  • Basic security systems Skoda Yeti;
  • reliable body, reinforced with a technologically calculated system of stiffeners;
  • Isofix child seat fastening mechanism;
  • system of blocking differentials in case of dissimilar coverage of the curtain (EDL);
  • up to nine airbags (option)

Specifications Skoda Yeti

From the point of view of the power filling of the car, there are four variants of engines for the Yeti on the market today, duplicating those of Volkswagen: gasoline with a volume of 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 liters and a two-liter diesel. All of them are turbocharged, with a capacity of 105 to 152 liters. with. Moreover, the record belongs not to a diesel unit, which develops maximum torque at 1800-2500 rpm, but an internal combustion engine of 1.8 liters, the maximum return falls on a mode from 1500 to 4500 rpm. True, the fuel consumption of this Skoda Yeti model is noticeably higher: on the highway - 7-8 l / 100 km, in the city - 11-12 liters (subject to a non-aggressive driving style). For comparison: the weakest engine of 1.2 liters consumes almost the same amount of gasoline as a two-liter diesel engine of diesel fuel - 6-7 liters per 100 km.

Modifications of the WV engines on the Skoda Yeti, coupled with the transmission

  • 1.2 TSI MT
  • 1.2 TSI DSG
  • 1.4 TSI MT
  • 1.4 TSI DSG
  • 1.6 MPI MT
  • 1.6 MPI AT
  • -1.8 TSI DSG 4 × 4
  • 2.0 TDI DSG 4 × 4

Of course, this indicator depends not only on the workload of the car, the driver's driving style and the number of traffic jams on the way, but also on the type of gearbox. There are two types of them in the Skoda Yeti: manual transmission (5- or 6-speed) and robotic (7 gears). The latter is similar in principle to conventional "mechanics", only the clutch moment is provided not by pressing the pedal, but by an automatic hydraulic or servo drive with a signal from an electronic processor. He is entrusted with the moment of changing the pairs of clutch gears to change the gear ratio from high to low and vice versa.

The undoubted plus of the "robot" box in the main component of the unit is that it is mechanical. The rest is electronics, which provides optimal modes when the clutch is activated, especially if it is double, which stimulates the smooth transition to the next gear. True, the electronic "brains" of the checkpoint fail more often than the nerve endings of a living person, which make it possible to engage the clutch with the left foot at the right time. But it is rare enough to last 100-200 thousand kilometers, following the recommendations for car maintenance. But for women and lazy men it is quite convenient.

But for active drivers, fans (including winter), "mechanics" are more suitable. The manual transmission on the Yeti is soft, as they say, obedient. In off-road conditions, this is the most suitable option, ensuring that prolonged driving on snow, mud under increased loads will not create gear shifting problems.

"Yeti" all-wheel drive

Well, if they are seriously talking about the transmission, it would be just a crime not to talk about the drive systems for transmitting torque to the drive wheels.

As already mentioned, the Yeti is available with two transmission options: front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. With a lonely leading front end, everything is clear: purely "SUV" for urban operating conditions with a claim to permissiveness. By the way, not only crossovers of the SUV class (according to the European classification, to which the Skoda Yeti belongs), but also more brutal cars, a priori sharpened off-road, for example, the legendary American Jeep Cherokee, sin with such an arrangement.

But with all-wheel drive at the "Yeti" everything is much more interesting. It is necessary to make a reservation right away: Yeti will crawl almost everywhere - both through mud, and slurry, and in snowdrifts, but not in a deep rut, which will put the body on bridges, and your "Bigfoot" will helplessly flounder with its paws into the void, without clutching wheels solid ground.

“He’s all-wheel drive, he has to get out!”, - the owners of the “Yeti” are indignant. As one good trophy raider put it, "remember, son, four-wheel drive doesn't owe anyone anything." Even the elevated Land rover Defender is powerless in a deep rut. Like our UAZs and GAZs, recognized leaders in overcoming forests, swamps, sands and other Russian scum.

But on smooth (with respect to 18-centimeter ground clearance, of course) snow, mud, swamp "Yeti" has something to surprise the owner. The rear pair is not connected here forcibly, but with the help of the Haldex clutch, the control of which depends on the readings of the sensors of the engine control unit, the ABS system and other units that control the parameters of the engine and chassis. At low speed (up to 30 km / h), an auxiliary off-road complex functions separately, which controls the transmission when starting off on ice, mud and other slippery surfaces. The opposite function - holding the car - off-road provides for extreme descents.

The anti-slip mechanism (ABS) is also original: in extreme mode, it temporarily blocks the rotation of the wheels in such a way that a “snowdrift” of soil forms in front of the tread, due to which the further advance of the car is ensured. For the honorary title "Absolute SUV" "Yeti" lacks a full center-line (although there are no axles here - independent suspension) and inter-wheel blocking. Although, on the other hand, why are they, if electronics rules?

Restyling Skoda Yeti

Of course, not all of the Skoda Yeti features and options listed above are present in the base model. For seven years, the car was supplemented with new options, mostly not significant, but also other organs of perception. Today there are three configurations - Active, Ambition and Elegance, differing mainly in the interior of the cabin. And do not let the buyer be confused by other names assigned to this noble car, such as: - Yeti Outdoor - Yeti Monte-Carlo - New Superb - New Superb Combi - Hockey Edition - Kodiaq.

The difference is in the country of sale, but from the inside and outside the same kind, reliable Skoda Yeti of the 2009 model. Is that a modernized one.

In 2013, there was an alteration, called the buzzword "restyling", but in fact, little changed in the car. The headlights were added with light, the front decorative grille was slightly changed ... The already mentioned panoramic roof with a hatch for “selfie” and a rear-view camera for comfortable parking appeared.

By the way, in the latest configuration of the Yeti there is a parking system, when it is better not to touch the steering wheel: the controller will park the car itself, provided that the driver does not press the accelerator pedal.

And yet, the Yeti was not created for parking. His element is an active drive that does not go beyond the boundaries of a well-thought-out country trip. Whether in summer or winter, he certainly won't let you down in solving such a problem.
