Held simultaneously with the test of the restyled G-Class SUV. So "Mercedes" are trying to show that the GLK is a worthy member of their off-road family, and not just another premium SUV. However, now there is a certain amount of cunning in this statement, because during the update, the crossover has become much closer to the asphalt.

At the time of its appearance on the market in 2009, the GLK really claimed the title of the most "off-road" crossover among its premium brethren. He had almost 20-centimeter ground clearance, permanent all-wheel drive with a traction distribution in a ratio of 45:55 percent in favor of the rear axle, as well as an optional "off-road" package with underbody protection and a special algorithm for the control electronics. Now, the base clearance has decreased by 20 millimeters - to 177 millimeters. According to engineers, to improve handling and reduce fuel consumption, but in fact - because GLK owners too rarely leave the asphalt roads.

Ground clearance situation new Mercedes-Benz GLK is generally a bit confusing. In official press materials, 177 millimeters of "base" ground clearance are valid for rear-wheel drive versions with a 2.2-liter diesel engine. At the same time, the data on the value of the clearance of all-wheel drive modifications are indicated with the already installed Offroad Engineering package, which now includes a ground clearance increased by 30 millimeters.
This is 207 millimeters for diesel versions and 210 millimeters for a car with a gasoline V6.

If you subtract 30 millimeters from these figures, which the off-road suspension adds, you get the same 177 millimeters for a diesel engine and 180 millimeters for a gasoline. new car... However, for some reason, such indicators are not indicated anywhere in the official documents of Mercedes-Benz.

By and large, all the work on the chassis in the restyled GLK boiled down to an easy upgrade of the suspensions. Due to the changed kinematics, the springs and shock absorbers were re-calibrated on all versions, but no “mechatronics” is still provided for the chassis of the Mercedes-Benz crossover: only pure mechanics and hydraulics of self-adjusting shock absorbers that change their stiffness only by changing the cross-section of the bypass valve in stock.

The line of motors has been updated slightly. The petrol 3.5-liter "six", popular in Russia, is a new one, equipped with direct fuel injection. In our market it will be available in two variants of forcing: with a capacity of 306 Horse power and with 370 Nm of torque (GLK 350) and 250 horsepower (350 Nm), which will replace the three-liter V6 on the GLK 300 version. Diesel Russians are offered so far in one version - a volume of 2.2 liters and a power of 170 hp, but in Europe there will be as many as four: three versions of a 2.2-liter engine with a capacity of 143, 170 and 204 forces, and a diesel V6 with a capacity of 265 forces, which develops 620 Nm of torque. We will not have basic rear-wheel drive modifications of the GLK either.

What are other news?

First of all, design. The exterior of the updated GLK now has fewer chopped edges, slightly related to the original Gelandewagen, but even more chrome: shiny grille strips and bumper covers, chrome trim for LED foglights. The headlights have become more rounded, and the “drips” in their corners are even more expressive.

“The previous GLK divided potential buyers into two camps: one clearly liked its rough, chopped design, and the other definitely did not like it,” explained Matthias Sobota, product manager for the GLK project, over dinner. “By developing the updated crossover, we tried to blur the line between these customer groups. His appearance is now more versatile, but at the same time, it seems to us, no less expressive. "

Sobota may be right, but the charisma in the appearance of the Mercedes-Benz GLK has now become less, and it looks best from the perspective ¾ from the rear, where its angularity is still clearly visible.

But the restyling only benefited the salon. Here, at first glance, not a single old detail remained at all: a new steering wheel, a tidy from the updated C-Class with a color screen in the center of the speedometer, a large LCD display of the navigation system, expensive very high-quality finishing materials and ... not a single flat plane. , not a single sharp edge! Even the vents of the ventilation system were changed to round ones with aluminum trim - like on the SLK and SL roadsters.

The selector of the "machine" moved from the central tunnel to steering column, freeing up space for cup holders and the joystick of the COMAND multimedia complex. The COMAND system itself on the GLK is now also the latest, with voice control, Internet access and the ability to use online applications for reading news and, and even searching for free parking spaces.

How is the new GLK going?

As comfortable as before. Changes in the suspension did not affect the smoothness of the ride: GLK still smoothes any road surface, even the most mediocre in quality. And along the mountain dirt road, which was part of a test route in the foothills of the Alps, the Mercedes-Benz crossover rushes with enviable equanimity. Chassis energy efficiency is excellent. The GLK is not afraid of tosses or holes, resiliently and almost silently swallowing most irregularities.

With the off-road package, the crossover does not hesitate to storm rocky roads with difficult terrain: ground clearance 21 centimeters is enough almost everywhere, if you go "headlong". There is only one drawback - the travel of the passenger, in fact, the suspension is too small. Therefore, on rebound, shock absorbers sometimes work a little harshly, and on large holes the wheels hang early in the air. However, the GLK is not afraid of diagonal hanging: crunching brakes, it is able to crawl almost everywhere. Especially if he is shod in more or less "evil" tires.

On the asphalt - softness in habits, traditional for "Mercedes". The empty, light steering wheel responds to the driver's actions with laziness, but in turns it becomes quite informative. The rolls are small, but you don't want to go really fast in the GLK, even with a top-end 306-horsepower gasoline engine. Its pleasant for observers outside the baritone in the cabin, due to good noise isolation, sounds flat, the responses to the gas pedal seem to be slightly damped, the machine in the "drive" mode relaxed goes over the top gears.

You can slightly cheer up the GLK by switching the transmission to "sport" mode, but the character of the crossover will not fundamentally change. The difference between a gasoline and a diesel car is much more noticeable: the GLK 220 CDI with a 170-horsepower engine turns out to be slightly denser in suspension, and in terms of acceleration in the mid-range zone, it does not lose in the least to the more powerful V6 thanks to 400 Nm of torque, available already from 1400 rpm. minute. But the sound pumped up - with active driving, its ugly rattling still breaks through the soundproof mats.

The Mercedes-Benz GLK (X204 body) is a compact SUV from the Mercedes-Benz manufacturing company. The GLK is 4.53 m long and is based on the C-class platform (204 series) and has been sold on the European market since October 2008. This car appeared on the American market in January 2009. In 2008, two concept versions of the SUV were exhibited at the Detroit International Auto Show, and the production model was represented by the German auto industry at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2008.

As mentioned above, two versions of the GLK were exhibited in Detroit in 2008. These were the Vision GLK FREESIDE and Vision GLK TOWNSIDE models. Both versions have short overhangs at both the front and rear (816 mm front and 957 mm rear). The front pillar is narrow enough and does not interfere with the all-round view.

The Vision FREESIDE has a ground clearance of 201 mm and overhang angles of 23 degrees front and 25 degrees rear. The wide gray FREESIDE side skirts protrude beyond the contours of the body to give the vehicle an imposing appearance.

Mercedes Vision GLK FREESIDE (2008)

The ground clearance of the GLK TOWNSIDE is small, this car is a SUV and is designed for urban conditions rather than off-road. It does not have sills like the GLK FREESIDE. Both models are equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels. Both Vision models have a 4-cylinder 2.1-liter engine with 170 hp. Mercedes GLK350 Sports Package X204 (2008-2012)

The GLK “Sport-Paket Exterieur” has a sporty yet elegant appearance. This impression is created by the presence of a large number of chrome moldings. This package includes aluminum roof rails and a 3-louvre radiator grill. This package also includes a 20 mm lowered sports suspension and 19-inch alloy wheels. In mid-December 2009, the GLK 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model was released. Off-road qualities

Despite the fact that the GLK was created primarily for city driving, it has all the qualities of an SUV. The 4MATIC all-wheel drive system allows torque distribution in a 45:55 ratio. At the same time, support is provided for systems such as ESP, ASR and 4ETS. A new multi-plate clutch has been developed for the GLK that supports the AWD system in conditions of insufficient tire adhesion (for example, when the road is covered with snow or ice). In this case, the center differential lock may turn on.

If you want to get more fun out of cross-country driving, you can order the “Offroad-Technik-Paket”. This package includes the installation of the "Offroad-Fahr" block. In complex road conditions it activates additional off-road functions. A special "off-road" function is also available in the Comand APS multimedia system, providing a dynamic route planning mode on a digital terrain map. Restyling

On June 30, 2012, a restyled version of the GLK entered the market. The main changes were made to the front of the car. The headlights have become more rounded, the radiator grille has increased, the shape of the air ducts has changed, and the front bumper has become less angular. The taillights have also changed, with new reflectors positioned higher. The exhaust pipe has widened slightly, it is firmly fixed in rear bumper... The GLK now has a new steering wheel inherited from the C-Class.

Some details are still recognizable, for example, the cruciform nozzle made of aluminum and the assistance systems inherent in the same C-class. In addition, on models with an automatic gearbox, the shift lever is located under the steering wheel, and on those with mechanical box, gear shifting is done in the usual way.

After restyling, two new engines appeared in the GLK-class. The GLK 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY has been updated with a 265 hp / 195 kW engine and, for the first time, the X204 has a 4-cylinder engine. It is a 2-liter engine with 211 hp / 155 kW, turbocharger and direct fuel injection.

Awards

GLK won AUTO TROPHY 2008 among SUVs worth over € 30,000, and according to the results of the competition held by Autobild magazine in 2009, it was named SUV / SUV Car of the Year with a value ranging from € 40,000 to € 60,000.

Prospects for the future

With the release of the GLK 300 BlueTEC HYBRID in March 2012, a plug-in hybrid model appeared for the first time in the GLK-class. The concept, called the Vision GLK BlueTEC HYBRID, was already on display at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. 4-cylinder turbo diesel "Common-Rail" with a volume of 2.1 liters, paired with an electric motor.

The quality of the interior is fully consistent with the premium essence of the Mercedes GLC - several types of high-quality leather or suede, natural wood, carbon fiber and aluminum.

By default, the interior of the premium crossover is five-seater, with ample space provided in both rows of seats. At the front, there are ergonomic chairs with unobtrusive lateral bolsters, padding that is optimal in terms of rigidity and a large number of adjustments. At the back there is a comfortable sofa with a folding armrest and individual ventilation deflectors, but also a tunnel that is too high and wide, interfering with the average passenger.

In the five-seater layout, the luggage compartment of the car has 550 liters, and in the two-seater - 1600 liters. The backs of the "gallery", divided in a ratio of 40/20/40, can be brought into an almost vertical position (the so-called "cargo mode"), freeing up several liters of volume without harming the seats.

In the Russian market, the restyled Mercedes-Benz GLC is offered with two four-cylinder engines (but in four modifications), each of which is separated into a bundle of a 9-band "automatic" and four-wheel drive with imitation of interwheel differential locks by means of electronics, distributing traction between the wheels in a ratio of 45:55 in favor of the rear axle:

  • The petrol versions rely on a 2.0-liter M264 unit with a two-flow turbocharger, direct fuel injection, a Camtronic variable valve timing system and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, which by default is also supplemented by a 14 hp belt-driven starter-generator. and 150 Nm, operating from a 48-volt electrical system. The motor itself is declared in two levels of boost:
    • on the GLC 200 4Matic version, it produces 197 horsepower at 5500-6100 rpm and 320 Nm of torque at 1650-4000 rpm;
    • and on the GLC 300 4Matic - 249 hp. at 5800-6100 rpm and 370 Nm of peak thrust at 1650-4000 rpm.
  • Under the hood of the diesel modifications is the 2.0-liter OM654 turbocharged engine with Common Rail battery technology and a 16-valve timing structure, also available in two pumping options:
    • 194 h.p. at 3800 rpm and 400 Nm of rotational potential at 1600-2800 rpm;
    • or 245 hp at 4200 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 1600-2400 rpm.

From standstill to 100 km / h, the mid-size SUV accelerates after 6.2-7.9 seconds, and accelerates to a maximum of 215-240 km / h.

Gasoline cars, on average, have 7.4 liters of fuel for every "hundred" of mileage in the combined cycle, and diesel cars - 5.4-5.9 liters.

It is worth noting that before the update, the all-terrain vehicle was also equipped exclusively with 2.0-liter "fours", but its gasoline units produced 211 and 245 hp. (GLC 250 4Matic and GLC 300 4Matic), and diesel - 170 and 204 hp. (GLC 220 d 4Matic and GLC 250 d 4Matic). In addition, a hybrid version of the GLC 350 e 4Matic (320 hp and 560 Nm) was delivered to us.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is built on a modular "rear-wheel drive" MRA platform, which implies an independent spring suspension on both axles - four-link at the front and five-link at the rear. "In the base" the car is equipped with springs and electronically controlled shock absorbers, optionally (but not for Russia) available pneumatic system Air Body Control with five modes of operation, variable clearance value.

An electromechanical amplifier with an adjustable gear ratio is implanted into the steering mechanism of the five-door, and its brake system presented by disc devices with ventilation "in a circle", supplemented by modern assisting electronics.

On the Russian market, Mercedes-Benz GLC is offered in three fixed trim levels to choose from - "Premium", "Sport" and "Sport Plus".

  • The premium crossover in the initial configuration will cost 3,650,000 rubles, and regardless of the modification - whether it be the GLC 200 4Matic, or the GLC 220 d 4Matic.
