Thanks to the UAZ Patriot Pickup car provided by Sollers, we had the opportunity not only to get to Krymsk and deliver the cargo, but also to conduct a small test drive of the car, which included large crossings, and off-road terrain.

I want to make a reservation right away that it was not a full-fledged test drive, but rather the impressions of the car obtained as a result of traveling with a specific purpose, to a specific place ...


I owned a Mazda BT-50 pickup, but this was the first time I had a chance to drive and travel in a pickup from a UAZ. Conveniently fit into a car with my height of 192 cm. It turned out right away. I had to tweak the power mirrors and the seat cushion, which has several adjustments. I would like to notice an indistinct "0" on the mirror control panel: given the almost impossible setting to "0" and the location of the remote control, you can accidentally knock down the mirror settings with your right hand.

The first kilometers of the journey showed that the first gear on the pickup is too "cargo", and not everyone will be able to get under way from the second. In terms of comfort, the UAZ significantly surpasses its counterpart from the Japanese manufacturer. UAZ passes bumps and speed bumps are much softer. Riding with an empty body can be quite comfortable, considering that we are driving an almost five-meter cargo SUV.

As a truck, the UAZ Pickup is undoubtedly good ...

The high sides made it possible to load a lot of cargo, including a rather heavy generator and equipment. The boot lid keeps the load dry and safe, has a lock, but is also equipped with internal stiffeners that slightly hide the interior space.

It is difficult to exaggerate the off-road capabilities of UAZ. UAZ Patriot is used quite a lot both for expeditions and for off-road driving. At the Pickup off-road performance more modest because of the overhang of the body, but high ground clearance and plug-in four-wheel drive quite allows you to get to hard-to-reach places, including with a load in the trunk.

We made several trips to and from the main camp to collect the cargo. The car obediently took on the weight and pulled us back, making arrivals through the littered streets ...

And now, it's time to go through the comments and "surprises" that awaited us on the way ...

After some time, on the way, we discovered that the "engine malfunction" light was on. Motor Euro-3 means to reset the error on their own will not work and a test computer is needed. Just in case, we tried to disconnect the battery ... While we were "resetting" the terminals, we found that there was no diagnostic connector! They searched all possible places where he could be, but they never found him. Two experienced uazovods were unable to cope with the puzzle.

Looking ahead, I will say that another UAZ Patriot Pickup stopped by another, was subjected to research, as a result of which the connector was found at one of the "official" places the first time. Our copy turned out to be exclusive. Most likely this is a feature of a particular car, which is not intended for sale, but delivered to the dealer as a test copy.

In addition, the malfunction did not affect fuel consumption, the engine continued to work properly, therefore, they simply hammered the burning light bulb before returning to the service.

Consider the rest of the comments on the car, compare its pros and cons:

What I would like to improve:
- On the go, the RK handle rumbles quite loudly (namely the handle). They say that this disease was fixed on the new UAZ Patriot, but we will definitely check it and tell you in the next posts.
- Buttons for closing the doors are tight enough, and in order to open the door, you have to open them, which is not very easy. It would be nice to be able to open a locked door with the door opener handle.
- The previously mentioned control unit for rearview mirrors is located directly under the right hand resting on the armrest and does not have a clear "0" position.
- It is inconvenient to open the upper glove compartment, and the cup holder strives to fly towards the rear passengers.
- Interior lighting has no off position, in addition, the front passengers have only "reading" lamps, in the complete absence of full-fledged lighting.

What we liked:
- Smooth running in comparison with brothers in ideology.
- High-quality body cover, although it has some design flaws.
- High sides of the body.

And in conclusion, the UAZ Patriot Pickup brought us to the Sea of ​​Azov, where we spent the night, bathed and headed back. I want to note that long-term driving on the road was transferred very well in the seats of the Pickup, and the high seating position made it possible to predict a change in the road situation in advance.

As a conclusion, I want to say that UAZ Patriot Pickup has the right to exist, and it defends this right with fairly serious justifications. Replacing the gluttonous 409th lighter with a high-quality diesel engine, which it promises to be new engine developed by Bosch-ZMZ, the car will be for a certain category of people, even more attractive than Japanese or American classmates for a number of reasons.

Personally, if I consider purchasing a Pickup in the future, I will first of all look at a pickup from UAZ, but on condition that it is equipped with a good diesel unit ...

It's already chilly in the Murmansk region at the end of September. At night, the temperature is about zero, and this is the norm for the Arctic. But when you spend the night in a tent on the shores of the Barents Sea, it seems that it is even colder outside the window (or rather, behind the tent). The tooth does not fall on the tooth. And as soon as I fell asleep, something roaring and belching clouds of smoke drove up to our tent camp. APC! The soldiers who arrived reported that sudden exercises were announced on the Middle Peninsula, and therefore we need to stay closer to the coast - self-propelled artillery mounts will shoot in the center.

I didn't want to sleep at all, and not only to me. Out of harm's way, we turn off the camp and set off on the route ahead of schedule. There are eleven updated UAZ vehicles in our column. I pass by - this is already a passed stage (ЗР, № 10, 2018). I am only interested in, which I have never traveled on.

Thanks to the handrails in the doorways, it has become convenient to climb into the cabin. There are no other visible changes in the interior. Although further refinement suggests itself. It would not hurt to have a two-stage (or better - three-) seat heating. The current one works on / off and fries like crazy. Climate control is the same: set 21 ° - cool, 22 ° - hot. If I were to the military on that armored personnel carrier, they would consider me a sissy. But the buyer, who paid 1,100,000 rubles for the car, has the right to demand correct work, even in the smallest details.

I squeeze the clutch: when compared with the Patriot tested in the summer, it is much easier to press the pedal. The strokes of the 5-speed mechanics are just as short, the selectivity is high. I remember very well that on the Patriot, the gearbox lever did not vibrate - thanks to the integrated intermediate damper. Here he noticeably itches. It looks like the same lever is installed on the test machine.

There are no good asphalt roads in these parts and never have been. In Soviet times, there were many military townships (now they are abandoned), and there were army Urals and Ulyanovsk "goats".

The pickup is like a fish in water. He forges half-meter fords with defiant ease, climbs the cobblestone hills without any problems - it was never necessary to switch to the lower register of the razdatka (its reduction coefficient is still 2.542). As well as engage the forced rear cross-axle lock. On inclines, the slope hold-down system came in handy, which makes starting off a lot easier. But the clearance of 210 mm is too small for an all-terrain vehicle: every now and then you beat the gearbox against stones, effectively striking sparks. This show goes without consequences, but it would not hurt to increase the clearance to 220-230 mm. In terms of "geometry" the Pickup is inferior to the usual Patriot: the rear overhang is longer, and the exit angle is 21 ° against 30 °. So you have to be careful at the excesses.



But in front of the kamenyuk, the Patriots had to be careful, shod with tires measuring 245/60 R18. To break through such is a trifling matter! We constantly stopped to change shoes. They put other tires on the Pickup - 235/70 R16, and thank God. They are noticeably more cut-resistant and better at absorbing fines.

Shots in the fog

The upgraded ZMZ Pro motor proved to be excellent. Compared to the previous version, the compression ratio was increased, the cylinder head was reinforced, pistons made of heat-resistant alloy were installed (taking into account the further appearance of the version with LPG) and a two-row chain. Power has increased from 135 to 150 hp, and torque has increased from 217 to 235 Nm. But it is much more important that the thrust peak is shifted to the zone low revs... Thanks to this, even on difficult terrain, you can drive without touching the accelerator - the engine pulls confidently at 800 rpm. Almost diesel character! For an all-terrain vehicle, it fits perfectly. By the way, next year UAZs will have compression motors. Moreover, these will be imported units, but the manufacturer is still kept secret.

Climbing one of the peaks, I heard a strong roar: in the foggy distance I saw a battery of self-propelled guns, synchronously beating in the direction of the center of the peninsula. Powerful! I drive on, but my head is spinning: if only they did not start practicing shooting at moving targets ... Willy-nilly I accelerate.




At a fast pace and on a bumpy road, the tail of the car became unpleasant to throw up. In the Patriot at the same speed, there is no particular deterioration in comfort. What's the matter? I found the answer under the belly of the truck. Rear suspension The pickup is the same: there are four leaves in springs (the Patriot has two of them) and an old stabilizer lateral stability(For the Patriot, the thickness of the bar was reduced from 21 to 18 mm). For a car focused on cargo transportation and carrying 725 kg, this is justified. Throwing wheels into the back - went softer. However, squeaks on irregularities did not disappear, although with a run of 900 km there should be no extraneous noise at all.

The front suspension has undergone the same transformations as the Patriot suspension. Pickup got open steering knuckles, which made it possible to radically reduce the turning radius by 0.93 meters. In addition, both pivots (previously only the lower one) take the vertical load in them, which should increase reliability. The unit is not subject to lubrication, but periodic adjustment of the axial clearance is still necessary for it. To improve handling, the castor was increased from 3 to 3.5 °. Really, driving performance on the asphalt became much better. True, the "overwhelmed" corner also has the opposite effect: on irregularities, the steering wheel beats harder. To compensate for this, the Ulyanovsk people installed a steering damper. With him the steering wheel remained "quiet" even on the road strewn with stones.

After ten minutes of godless shaking, the wheels on the cargo platform unlocked and began to fly around the compartment, but I didn't even feel it. This is what a cargo platform separated from the cabin means - in a station wagon they would have arranged Stalingrad! The UAZ cargo platform is shorter than that of foreign cars-classmates, however, for the everyday needs of a conventional fisherman-hunter, the capabilities of the Pickup are enough for the eyes. And an ATV or a snowmobile will not fit into the mentioned foreign cars either.

Perhaps the main operational drawback is high consumption fuel. Off-road, the Pickup burns about 17 l / 100 km, and on the highway it requires at least 12 liters per hundred. This is a lot for a four-cylinder car. The ability to digest 92nd gasoline is little consolation. The transition to a six-speed mechanics would help to reduce consumption: it will allow to "drop" the engine speed at main speeds. But the Ulyanovsk people do not even stutter about such a box. But next spring. Consumption, of course, will not decrease, but comfort and status will be added.

Until recently, I associated UAZs, if not with a tent, then with a rickety rural house without amenities. Over the past five years, a good-quality repair has been done in it: a decent cladding has been mounted, the roof has been shifted, and the sewerage system has been installed. It remains to reduce heating costs, and you will want to live in this house.

The specialists who worked on the restyling of the UAZ Patriot pickup tried to make their "hero" turn to face the city. And although the U-turn was not completed, a car from Ulyanovsk can bring joy not only to the residents of the village, but also to active and practical townspeople.

A car wash worker walks from the work area to the recreation area with the words: "Pickup owner, the car is ready!" Sounds solid, serious, thorough. So much so that I once again peer at the brainchild Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant... The pickup, built on the basis of the UAZ Patriot SUV, underwent a significant restyling in 2014, after which it became more difficult to associate it with military or specialized equipment - there were urgently missing electronic assistants, previously unthinkable attributes of comfort for this model, the exterior was "combed" in the latest fashion, and the cabin seemed to have become habitable.

But the brutal character of the Ulyanovsk "hard worker" has not changed. This is still a heavy (from 2135 kg) frame pickup with a Patriot SUV aggregate base, a double full-fledged cab and a cargo compartment, in which the side height is as much as 650 mm! The wheelbase in comparison with the soplatform Patriot is increased by 240 mm (up to 3000 mm), as a result, the body length of the hero of the test is impressive - 5125 mm. The car comes in three trim levels - basic Classic, improved Comfort and top-end Limited, which we chose for testing. For a surcharge, you can get a plastic body cover (as in our case) or a full-fledged kung.

War and Peace

Before the restyling, it was extremely difficult to imagine a woman driving a UAZ Pickup - there was not an ounce of frivolity in the appearance of the Ulyanovsk pickup, only sheer persuasiveness. And here you are - the front lighting has got LED strips, there are steps integrated into the body, the rear-view mirrors with "turn signals" have increased in size and can now be folded, the door handles on the side doors have become more convenient. There is a mini-revolution in the cabin: the front panel was "dressed" in soft plastic, a multimedia complex with a 7-inch touch screen, video playback, USB / AUX ports, Navitel navigation system covering all of Russia, as well as Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine, as well as with a rear-view camera with trajectory prompts. In addition, already in basic configuration there are electric drives for windows of all doors and external mirrors. Air conditioning, heating of both rows of seats, mirrors and a windshield are now available for ordering, additional heater interior, ABS and even leather seats. Finally, instead of a lever that connects four-wheel drive and a low range of gears, there was a swivel washer - almost the same as in the "glamorous" crossovers.

Despite the scale of the innovations, it was not possible to break the military-utilitarian spirit of the "Ulyanovsk". Most importantly, for this model, airbags and seat belt pretensioners, a multifunctional steering wheel and a stabilization system are still not offered (UAZ officials promise to correct the situation during a new restyling, scheduled for 2016). The doors of the UAZ Pickup close with a characteristic metal slap, like in military trucks, and the mechanisms for their locking work in the same sonorous manner: neither give nor take - a shot. It was not at all possible to open the lid of the cargo compartment of the test machine at all the first time - somewhere I had to push, turn something, poke a key in the well.

With the fine-tuning of the seats, the situation is better. Firstly, the driver's seat has received an extended range of adjustments, including height and lumbar support. The rear seats have got new headrests and Isofix mounts. Under the back row cushion, there is a storage area for the tool. True, there is only a hint of the profile of the seats in both rows, and the filler is hard, which is why the back begins to numb on long trips. Be that as it may, in terms of comfort, there is progress. On the plus side, let’s write down the fact that, unlike many competitors, both rows of seats are not cramped. Wheel equipped with a hydraulic booster, can be adjusted by tilt. New instrument cluster with outside temperature sensor and trip computer informative and cute.

Town and Country

At speeds up to 80 km / h, however, there are no particular difficulties with course control. But it is worth getting into the left, high-speed, row of the TTK or MKAD, as the car begins to require steering (and at a tangible angle) to maintain a straight trajectory. Taking into account the fact that the stabilization system is not allowed even for a top-end pickup, you have to be careful - slow down and go into the right, slow-moving rows. The braking dynamics of the UAZ Pickup, alas, is also not outstanding, although it is quite acceptable if you adhere to a calm driving style. The front brakes are disc, ventilated, rear - drum type. It is good that for the top configuration they are offered anti-lock braking system and distribution system braking efforts(EBD). When choosing a car, do not skimp on these important options.

The capabilities of a 2.7-liter, 128-horsepower petrol engine, working in combination with a 5-speed "mechanics", are enough for calm starts and the same unhurried acceleration. I still can't say that the car lacks dynamics - the engine pulls perfectly in the middle rev range, making it easier to drive over rough terrain. In a word, the aggregate base is quite consistent with the appearance and design.

In terms of improvement, I would like to get rid of the vibrations from the transmission, which are quite noticeable when accelerating to lower gears... And also to achieve a more delicate operation of the gearbox. With selectivity, everything is not bad here: you don't miss the transmission, but the third one is stuck with a characteristic metallic sound. And to maintain upshifts, the gearbox will respond with a disgruntled hum - they say, stop saving fuel, switch down!

I liked the suspension both in the city and off-road. The ride is decent by the segment's standards; when passing speed bumps, the UAZ Pickup does not throw rear passengers into the air, like other competitors. And, of course, everything is in order with energy intensity - the suspension does not break through on serious bumps. As for off-road cross-country ability, here the car is at a height - you can crawl through mud and shallow snow without even turning on the downshift. However, there is still an Achilles heel - the inability to cope with diagonal hanging, because there is no rear differential lock, and there is no ESP that could slow down individual wheels.

Tailored to the needs

In terms of practicality, everything is going well. The engine easily digests the 92nd gasoline, which can be filled both from the starboard side and from the left - there are two necks, and the tanks are combined. The cargo compartment is quite spacious (internal dimensions 1400x1500x650 mm, useful volume - more than 1.3 cubic meters) - just a dream of a farmer, fisherman and traveler. It seems to me that they are the main target audience. For fastening the luggage, metal lugs are mounted in the body. And to make it more convenient to place the load in the body, not only side steps but also a rear metal underride bar that you can stand on. On the folded back side, you can sit or stand without any problems (note for tourists). And in the rear overhang of the pickup, under the bottom, was located spare wheel... The solution is standard, but what I would like to recommend to the designers is the protective cover for the spare wheel, because the wheel will inevitably splash with mud, and it is problematic to remove it.

So it turns out that UAZ Pickup, unlike a number of competitors, plays in a completely unique niche, which I would define as “utilitarian and recreational”. Losing to foreign competitors in terms of comfort, he is quite capable of plugging them in the belt in terms of adaptability to Russian realities (take at least heated seats in both rows and an inexpensive autonomous heater) and, of course, in terms of price-quality ratio. For the initial version of the UAZ pickup, they are asking 784,000 rubles today. At the same time, you can save up to 230,000 rubles in addition if you buy a car on credit, under the trade-in program and other promotions. Competitors can only dream of such prices.

Not so long ago, the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant presented its next novelty - UAZ Pickup 2017-2018 in a new body (photo, configuration, specifications, prices, video and test drive). In fact, this is the same Patriot model, only this type of body has a higher carrying capacity.

This new product from the Russian Federation will be equipped with only one uncontested power unit that runs on gasoline. Volume power plant is 2.7 liters, and the power is 134.6 hp. Previously, a 2.2-liter diesel unit was also installed on the model, but for now the manufacturer decided to move away from using this engine. Together with the unit, only mechanical box gear. It is worth noting that the gasoline engine boasts a relatively moderate appetite. In the "highway" mode, fuel consumption per 100 km per hour will be only 12 liters.

All-wheel drive, plug-in. If necessary, the rear axle drive can be switched off.

The suspension has not changed at all after the modifications. Its front part consists of a dependent axle, and the rear part consists of semi-elliptical springs.

So, the dimensions of this mighty car are as follows:

Do not be surprised that the cargo compartment of the new item is simply huge. So, the length of the platform is 1 m 37.5 cm, the width is 1.5 meters, and the height of the sides is 64 cm. The platform can be covered with a fabric roof, thus the volume of the compartment will be more than 1,100 liters.

After revision, no drastic changes in appearance the car did not happen. Improvements are noticeable only in the bow. The radiator grille now looks like a mesh with a branded emblem and chrome stripes. The headlights have not changed at all, although now a small LED strip runs along the bottom of the optics, which performs the function running lights... Below is the familiar large bumper with round fog lights.

When you look at the profile of the pickup, the large side mirrors are immediately striking, as well as the very comfortable and durable footpegs. By the way, the footpegs are well positioned and do not hide the solid ground clearance at all.

If you look at the side part more closely, you can see how large and roomy the car is. luggage compartment... For the convenience of loading things and other cargo, the manufacturer has installed a folding back wall.

Salon UAZ Patriot 2017-2018 in a new body

Everything inside the Russian open off-road vehicle is strict, but neat. In general, the interior is completely identical to the Patriot model, however, some details are still different.

The center console houses a widescreen display that displays actions with a modern multimedia system. The screen is 7 inches, so it will be very convenient to use it. The multimedia system is equipped with such modern systems as Bluetooth, a navigation system with maps not only of the Russian Federation, but also of the CIS. For an additional fee, you can install a camera for a 360 ° view.

In the more expensive version, the SUV will be equipped with a multimedia steering wheel with various buttons and the ability to adjust the reach and tilt.

Also, the manufacturer was concerned about the safety of the driver and passengers while driving. Now the model will be equipped with several airbags, ABS, EBD, as well as the emergency braking function, the stability assistant and the assistant when driving uphill, however, only for an additional fee. In the minimum configuration, the equipment of the car is the simplest.

As before, the UAZ Pickup 2017-2018 in a new body is perfectly prepared for the Russian harsh winters. Additional comfort for the driver is created by the heating system for side mirrors, windshield and rear window, as well as the front row of seats. For an additional fee, a steering wheel heating and a prestarting heater of the system are available to start the engine in the lowest temperatures.

Previously, buyers often complained about the quality of the noise and sound insulation of the cabin. And after restyling, this problem was partially solved. Now additional protection will be installed on the floor, on the doors and on the roof.

Cost of UAZ Pickup 2017-2018 and equipment

After the update, the car became available in 4 versions: Standard, Comfort, Privilege and Style. The minimum equipment will be equipped with halogen optics with LED strip, heated and adjustable side mirrors, power windows, fabric upholstery, audio system, front airbags.

Also, the manufacturer has already announced how much the UAZ Pickup 2017-2018 will cost. The prices are as follows:

  • the "Standard" equipment will cost 869 thousand rubles;
  • "Comfort" equipment - 959 thousand rubles;
  • complete set "Privilege" - 1,039 thousand rubles;
  • set "Style" - 1,080 thousand rubles.
