Technical features

The body of Primera had electroplating, thanks to which it was practically not subject to corrosion. For its manufacture, a special technology was developed that allows bending the flanges of the wings, which were previously spot-welded to the wing plane, during the body assembly process.

There were also innovations in engines. The main goal of Japanese engineers was to improve the power characteristics of the engine while maintaining the working volume. The gas distribution mechanism and the exhaust system have undergone modernization. Cast iron gave way to aluminum, and the cylinder head received a variable valve timing mechanism. This made it possible to obtain more than 100 Horse power developed power.

Changes have been made to the braking system. Thanks to the use of the new eighth series ABS from Bosch, which was lighter and more compact than its predecessors, and also worked more efficiently, especially in combination with Nissan system Brake Assist. Nissan engineers did not ignore and passive safety, especially in the field of protecting the driver and passengers from side and frontal impacts. To protect pedestrians, the front bumper was made using soft filler, and the lower part of the fenders, on the contrary, is more rigid, so that in a collision, deforming, only the bumper absorbs kinetic energy.

The chassis is traditional: MacPherson strut in front, a conventional semi-independent beam in the back. The front suspension is attached to the body on a specially insulated subframe, which ensures a smooth ride, reduced noise and vibration levels.

Compared to classmates

Nissan Primera differs from its classmates, first of all, by its futuristic design, both the body and the interior.

Its highlight is the unusual-looking console and instrument cluster located in the center. The console is very much like a computer keyboard. Primera cars of the early 90s are characterized by a calm appearance. Despite the external similarity, the station wagon differs significantly from the sedan with a hatchback in design. The main difference is the three-link front suspension, which gives the P10 legendary stability and handling. The station wagon uses McPherson and a dependent beam, which are more reliable and durable, so that rear suspension the station wagon is practically indestructible. However, this makes the workhorse (station wagon) much worse than the Primera in sedan and hatchback bodies, a characteristic feature of which is a very clear steering. Multi-link suspension here it is tough, but moderately comfortable. Due to its sophisticated design, the Primera does not roll to the side in sharp turns, and bumps in the road are passed with much less rumble in the cabin than any of its competitors. There is a little hum, but there is no separation from the road surface, yaw and other "pleasures". It is clear and predictable behavior on the road that many owners call the first advantage of the car.

The interior of the car is without unnecessary frills, everything is quite simple, but nevertheless it is very convenient and functional. The trim levels in the P10 were as follows: LX, SLX, GT. The GT version externally differs in other bumpers, a spoiler, original wheels, door sills. In the cabin, there are seats with more developed lateral support. The original color scheme, which is used only on the GT, is not velor, but a special black and black-gray fabric. Landing of the car is slightly lower. Steering column adjustable in all versions. There are also knobs for adjusting the clock and resetting the daily mileage. When moving, all buttons and controls are accessible only by hand movement (no need to bend over). The fuel tank hatch is opened remotely from inside the passenger compartment with a special lever installed on the floor near the driver's seat. The control of the air ducts of the ventilation, heating and air conditioning system of the passenger compartment is equipped with electric drives and is carried out using buttons, there is also a switch for fan operating modes. A box container is located at the bottom of the console (a cassette holder can be installed there, just a container for small things or a container with a spring-loaded lid (the latter is most common)). At the very bottom there is a cigarette lighter and an ashtray. Central lock and electric windows are equipped with many cars from the beginning of production. In the station wagon version, a spacious luggage compartment allows you to place a large amount of luggage, and, if necessary, spend the night with relative comfort. The luggage in the trunk is protected from prying eyes by a soft sliding shelf, which has two fastening positions in the luggage compartment - depending on the amount of inclination of the rear seat backs.

Several engines were offered for the car. Gasoline GA16DS - 1.6, 90 hp. (carburetor), and in 93 it was replaced by GA16DE - the same 1.6, but with distributed injection with a power of 100 hp. SR20DI - mono-injector 2.0 with 115 hp, from the 93rd SR20DE –125 hp, later 135 hp. The power of 2-liter engines is indicated as basic, but the real one is very approximate and not stable, since when VINs of cars of different years break through, mention of reduced engine power is often found. Diesel LD20 (75 hp) was produced until April 1996. The engines are quite reliable and, with proper operation and timely maintenance, are capable of reaching up to 200-300 thousand km before overhaul. Carbureted versions of engines often experience jerking during operation due to a tendency to misalignment and misalignment with the catalyst.

The rear part of the P11 suspension has changed, now it is made, as in the W10 - a beam with a Scott-Russell mechanism, and in front only the lower arm has changed (or rather, one of its silent blocks). The handling of the car, especially its cornering behavior, has become exceptional. The car developers managed to bring the car axle weight distribution closer to ideal. However, in the new P11, the new rear suspension is more likely to break down than in the P10.

The configuration options remain the same as those of its predecessor - SLX and GT. There were also GX (the poorest, replacing the LX) and SE (the richest: 4 pillows, leather, sunroof, air conditioning, music, etc.). The rest of the names are secondary, do not carry significant information and serve purely marketing purposes.

The interior is probably half of the promised 600 changes - in the upholstery of the doors, the plastic of the dashboard. The interior is now two-tone, with a dark top and a light bottom. The engines have been updated but remain the same. Their characteristics have changed somewhat. The elegance, sportiness and technology of the exterior of the Primera is continued in the interior of the vehicle. The front panel is made in two colors, with a dark top and a light bottom. The climate, navigation and audio systems, as well as other devices on the car are controlled by the latest interface with a joystick and six multi-function keys, which eliminated many traditional buttons and switches. The new QR20 2.0L engine features a rigid ladder-type cylinder block and a compact balancer system for superior smoothness and quiet operation. The use of lighter parts, a low-noise chain and a plastic valve cover allows this engine to perform as close as possible to the characteristics of a 6-cylinder engine in terms of its performance. Its maximum power is 103 kW (140 PS) at 6,000 rpm and torque is 192 Nm at 4,000 rpm.

16-valve turbo diesel engine YD22 with a volume of 2.2 liters, with two camshafts and with Common Rail technology, similar to the engine found in the recently launched X-Trail.
