Good day to all motorists!

I decided to write a review about the Audi A4, this car really hooked me ...

It all started with the fact that I had a Toyota Surf, I decided to sell it. The sale dragged on, on the 6th month of the sale one peasant appeared with an Audi A4 for exchange. We looked, discussed it, gave me winter tires, paid 500 bucks and we went our separate ways)) First impressions were positive! The salon is well-groomed, everything works, nice lighting, climate control, electric mirrors, but for some reason a "paddle" package instead of buttons ... gray plastic looks good on the panel and doors, the consumption is small, quite playful on the bottoms, drove to a hundred - hodovka OK, the levers are new, which is important, since the levers for this model are not cheap! In general, two days of joy knew no bounds!

Strengths:

  • Economical in terms of gasoline

Weak sides:

  • Breakingness

Review of Audi A4 1.8 5V (Audi A4) 1996

Until the Audi of the Germans, he drove only on the trade wind, the rest were Japanese: an old Mazda 626 '87 and a Honda Accord 93.

I don’t know what prompted me to buy an Audi, probably the price, they took it through my stepfather, his client needed money, it was her personal car, the main one was a working one, that is, the condition of the car was almost ideal.

At first everything was fine, the first month, and then repairs after repairs, the levers were constantly changing, the ball ones separately from the lever did not change, the automatic transmission was dead on the track, it was driving in emergency mode at 3 speeds, you can say that I just watched the gasoline flow away.

Strengths:

  • An alarm that will automatically close the windows and sunroof (if electric)
  • Sufficiently high ground clearance
  • Galvanized body
  • Strong body
  • Good noise isolation

Weak sides:

  • Weak suspension
  • Volatile
  • Weak automatic transmission (you need to drive very calmly, or every month to be repaired)
  • 1.8 the engine absolutely does not pull this car
  • Inappropriate (passengers with a height of 1.8 meters are already uncomfortable behind)
  • Hard seats + hard suspension = zero comfort

Review Audi A4 1.8 5V Turbo (Audi A4) 1995

I bought a car from my dad.

1.8 turbo engine. It turned out to be a little charged: a low harsh suspension, a motor with a turbine ... And a pleasant high sound of the engine when accelerating - a metallic clatter ... mmm ...

Car from Belgium: not much exploited, mileage OK. Apparently they tuned for European roads, since the stability is excellent on our golimy roads (Latvia).

Weak sides:

Review of Audi A4 1.6 (Audi A4) 1998

Audi 1.6 petrol. I do not want to say about all the Audi that they are bad, but the one I drove was just disgusting. Prior to that, I went to TOYOTA Camry. What I didn’t like right away was the rather tight steering wheel, it itself didn’t twist to the neutral position after turning, turning on the headlights with an additional handle next to the turn signals, and red instrument lighting. But that's not all, the climate control was made in a very idiotic way. It was inconvenient to set it up on the go. The buttons that were there, for each press, rearranged the temperature by half a degree.

The A4 is in many ways a landmark for the Audi brand. To some extent, it can even be called a “breadwinner”. If you look at the history of Audi, then the volume of production of this model has always been quite significant. And at some time she even took first place.

In addition, many fans of the brand began their acquaintance with the A4, and only then, having appreciated all the advantages, they moved on to other models.

Beyond time and generations

This characteristic can be attributed to engines of the EA827 / EA113 series. After all, various modifications of these units were installed on three generations of the A4 model. The series was represented by 1.6 and 1.8-liter naturally aspirated fours, as well as the legendary 1.8 T modification, which was widely used on a variety of models of various brands of the VAG concern.

Modest 1.6

The younger 1.6-liter unit is a modification of the 1.8-liter unit with a short-stroke crankshaft. Due to this, the working volume of the combustion chambers was reduced. It has a timing belt drive, the resource of which is determined within 60 thousand km. The condition of the belt must be carefully monitored, since if it breaks, the valve bends here. The cylinder head is arranged according to the SOHC scheme, that is, with one camshaft. The presence of hydraulic lifters removes the need to adjust the valves. On injection versions there is a variable valve timing system. The engine has a fairly solid resource. Able to calmly retreat more than 300 thousand km. With careful maintenance, there are also much higher mileage figures.

Problems encountered:

  • Vibration;
  • An unpleasant feature of the motor. It is treated with ECU firmware;
  • Floating idle speed. Possible reasons: idle speed regulator, throttle valve contamination, injector condition;
  • High oil consumption. This can be both a harbinger of a complete "capital", and problems with valve stem seals and rings;
  • Intake manifold cracking;
  • Noisy work, knocking. Most often this is due to the peculiarities of the operation of hydraulic lifters.

Famous 1.8

The basis for the 1.8 engine, in the form of a cast iron block, is identical to the younger unit. The increase in displacement is achieved through a longer piston stroke. The timing drive is also belt-driven. The declared resource for replacement is 60 thousand km. But the "heads" could be installed different. There are three options for 8, 16 and 20 valves. Sometimes, the presence of a 20V cylinder head is mistaken for the "head" of a five-cylinder engine. However, it is not. It's just that a system with five valves per cylinder is used here. All three options are equipped with hydraulic lifters.

Regarding the issue of risks in the event of a timing belt break, the 1.8-liter engine is in many ways similar to its less voluminous sibling. On a single-shaft cylinder head, with 8 valves, there is still a chance that they will remain intact in the event of a break. Two other, more complex constructive options, clearly imply repair after such an incident.

The 20-valve version is equipped with a variable valve timing system. The same cylinder head is also used on the turbo version. Its design differences lie in the presence of a turbocharger with a small intercooler. This gives a significant increase in terms of power characteristics.

With regard to reliability, these motors are doing quite well with this indicator. Under normal operating conditions, atmospheric versions easily pass 300 thousand, and a significant part of them is even more. For natural reasons, the turbocharged version has a smaller resource. Nevertheless, and she has it quite decent. Especially in comparison with modern turbo engines. Most of the copies calmly pass over 200 thousand, and some reach up to 300 thousand. The turbine itself can withstand about 250 thousand km.

Problem areas of 1.8 / 1.8T engines

Since the motors are structurally very similar, their problems also largely overlap. Among the most common are the following:

  • Leaking oil cooler gasket;
  • Regular contamination of the crankcase ventilation system;
  • Failure of the fan viscous coupling;
  • Instability of revolutions. The engine stalls. The most common reasons: idle valve, throttle contamination, the state of the pillow under monoinjection (if any);
  • Increased fuel consumption. The reasons may be a malfunction of the lambda probe or coolant temperature sensor.

Two-liter "aspirated"

The engine with the designation ALT, producing 130 hp, was installed on the second and third generation of the model. Has established itself as a motor with a calm character. It is suitable for those who prefer predictability and reliability over dynamics. The series is deservedly considered one of the best options for low cost maintenance. The resource did not disappoint either. It is not a problem for the motor to overcome the 300 thousand mark.

According to the reviews of the owners and service technicians, many specimens have a very decent oil appetite. It manifests itself first in small volumes, and then grows. Usually the zhor stops at 2-3 liters per 10 thousand, but there are also neglected cases. The collective opinion of the owners and servicemen suggests that the whole point is in the poor design of the rings. Due to the weak strut, they do not work properly. At the same time, many owners of cars with such an engine made repairs, after which they managed to reduce the consumption to 500-700 grams of oil by 7-8 thousand mileage.

Sensitive 2.0 FSI

In 2002, the second generation Audi A4 (B6) was the first of all the models of the concern to try on the new 2.0 FSI engine. Its main feature is direct fuel injection. The new 16-valve aluminum cylinder head has a continuous variable valve timing system.

The high-tech power system turned out to be quite sensitive. This can be a decent hassle for the owner. The quality of domestic fuel and the harsh climate clearly do not contribute to the stable operation of a complex system. At extremely low temperatures, the engine may simply not start. More often than not, the problem lies in the candles. It is solved by replacing it with plugs from the 1.8 T engine, which have a smaller gap.

Loss of power may indicate carbon buildup in the valves. Due to the fact that direct fuel injection is used, the valve is not cleaned normally. Subsequently, this leads to overlapping of the channels. For the first time, this appears on a run of about 100 thousand km. To eliminate it, disassembly and repair will be required. And since this drawback refers to design features, then such actions are likely to be required in the future. The approximate interval is 100 thousand.

With active oil consumption, it is very likely that the rings are stuck. For a more accurate diagnosis, a serious diagnosis is required. But such a malfunction usually manifests itself on high mileage.

Regular cleaning and attention is required. Although some owners solve the issue with radical methods. They reflash the ECU to work without it, and then jam it.

The operating statistics of this engine show that its average resource is 200-250 thousand km. With some owners, with very careful care, the motors pass up to 300. On the one hand, the indicators are not bad, but on the other hand, the motor has many problem areas. In terms of reliability, this is not the best option.

V-shaped atmospheric "sixes"

The motors of this design installed on the Audi A4 of the first two generations can be safely attributed to the representatives of the classic "old school". Due to the fact that the A4 is a mid-range model, they are much less common with four-cylinder options. Indeed, in comparison with them, they require significantly higher maintenance costs by themselves. However, if you initially consider and evaluate them in your niche, then they are quite reliable. This is facilitated by the simplicity of the design (relative to modern analogues), moderate forcing and low operating temperatures.

For engines with volumes of 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8 liters, versions released after 1996 are considered more successful. Apparently the engineers worked on the "childhood diseases". However, some unpleasant surprises can show up. One of these is gummy deposits on valve poppets.

The 3.0-liter V-engine installed on the second generation (B6) has a different design and belongs to the BBJ series. It is difficult to call it the fundamentally best in terms of performance. There is no clear advantage, but the cost of maintenance is much higher. This is facilitated by the complexity of the design.

All motors in this group have a common problem - tight placement in the engine compartment. After all, they were designed to be installed on larger models of the concern. This leads to the need to disassemble a significant part of the "front end" for maintenance and repair. Such a tight arrangement often makes it impossible to inspect the condition of the engine for fluid leaks and other visual manifestations. Often this leads to the fact that the owners notice the malfunction too late. Cases have been recorded when an imperceptible oil leak from under the cylinder head covers led to a full-fledged fire in the engine compartment.

To summarize, the problems with these motors are related to age and oil consumption. Even in a tough urban operation cycle, the resource before overhaul will be no less than 250-300 thousand km. And if the engine was monitored, and repairs were made in a timely manner (for example, replacing caps and rings), then they are able to go through more than 400 thousand.

Legendary 1.9 TDI

At first, the first generation tried on a diesel unit of the EA180 series with a power of 90 hp. The A4 versions had a direct injection, 8-valve single-shaft cylinder head. The engine is noted as being very reliable and not particularly picky about fuel quality. But it is still not worth pouring in a frank surrogate.

In 1998, production of the next generation of these diesel engines began. The series received the designation EA188. The engine has been significantly improved. Instead of a high-pressure fuel pump, pump nozzles were used, and the designs of the intake and intercooler were also changed.

Engines of these series have become very popular. Possessing good characteristics and consumer qualities, they did not sacrifice a resource. Yes, these are not the easiest motors to maintain. They require attention, care and timely maintenance. But if you adhere to these rules, then their runs quietly exceed 400 thousand km.

Reliable 2.0 TDI EA188 series

As the title suggests, the engine is a sister to the famous 1.9-liter unit. A round figure, a working volume of 2.0 liters, was achieved by increasing the diameter of the cylinders. The differences do not end there. The engine received a cylinder head of a completely different design. The DOHC scheme was used with two camshafts. Initially, the engine developed 140 hp, however, later a more powerful version of 170 hp appeared. This version seriously changed the engine. The changes affected almost all the main details. The cylinder head has changed dramatically.

Despite its high manufacturability, the engine is considered very reliable. Its resource is from 400 to 500 thousand km. However, such figures can only be achieved with quality service.

Faults encountered:

  • Problem with injectors on early 170 hp versions;
  • Regular wear of the edges of the hexagon on the oil pump drive. Occurs every 150-200 thousand km. Solved by preventive replacement;
  • Increase in oil level. The reason may lie in the particulate filter or injectors;
  • Loss of traction. Pereduv. This is evidence of problems with variable turbine geometry. It may be jammed.

2.0 TDI with Common Rail

In 2007, a new engine was released based on the EA188 motor. He received the designation EA189. Structurally, it is very similar to its predecessor. The main differences lie in a different cylinder head. Instead of the unit injectors, the Common Rail system was used.

This motor has become a very worthy replacement for its predecessor, because it has no obvious weaknesses. Hence he has a good reputation. And those malfunctions that nevertheless appear are not critical.

Identified characteristic faults:

  • Oil pump hex problem. Occurs on versions with balancer shafts manufactured before 2009;
  • Intake manifold swirl flaps jammed.

The resource is very decent for a modern motor. With good maintenance, it is quite possible to drive 350-400 thousand km on this engine.

V-shaped gears TDI

Quite interesting engines, especially in combination with not the largest car, such as the Audi A4. On the one hand, there are very high indicators of power and traction, and on the other hand, decent reliability and efficiency.

This is especially true for engines 2.7 and 3.0. The real resource of the units may well be 400 thousand km. The main problem with such engines is the injectors. They rarely take care of more than 200 thousand, especially with domestic fuel. Replacing them is very expensive, nevertheless, many motorists are not even deterred by this. After all, in fact, the motor no longer has serious problems. Buying an expensive car also means not the cheapest service, so a significant part of such copies have been successfully serving their owners for many years.

Problematic 2.5 TDI

The direct injection 2.5-liter V6, on the other hand, is usually less well received. These motors can be found on the A4 until 2006. On the units of the first series, there were problems with the timing drive. In this regard, premature wear of the rockers occurred. If the repair is not made promptly, then the most sad consequences are possible, up to the repair of the entire cylinder head. In the future, the drive was modified, therefore, on later units, the occurrence of such a malfunction is unlikely.

But the problem with the high-pressure fuel pump was never solved. Structurally, it is very unsuccessful, therefore it cannot boast of reliability. The consequence of such design miscalculations is its constant overheating, and in the future, and complete failure.

There are questions about the resource of the cylinder-piston group. Its wear occurs much earlier than other units. Also, the problem can be exacerbated by an extended oil drain interval. Therefore, when buying such a copy, high-quality engine diagnostics is simply a must. The variable geometry turbine is also considered not the strongest part of the engine.

Era of TFSI

The VAG concern, and its Audi brand in particular, are among the leaders in the implementation of innovative technological solutions on their cars. The engines were not spared either. There is a trend towards a gradual transition to turbo engines. If earlier the turbo versions were positioned as sports or "charged", then from the third generation began a rapid displacement of "aspirated".

2.0 TFSI EA113 series

This motor was introduced in 2004 as a replacement for the 2.0 FSI. In addition to the turbine itself, the engine is structurally different enough. First of all, the cylinder block, which in this case is made of cast iron. Many other design details have also undergone major revisions.

Among the common problems is oil consumption. Appears mainly with medium runs. The main reasons for this are the valve stem seals and rings. There are also times when the culprit is the crankcase ventilation valve.

The appearance of knocks and the so-called "diesel" indicates problems with the camshaft chain tensioners. And the loss of traction at high speeds indicates that the injection pump pusher is worn out. He has a relatively small resource, moreover, it is recommended to check his condition every 15-20 thousand km. Such manifestations in the range of the entire acceleration indicate problems with the bypass valve.

Not very long life on this engine and ignition coils. Pay attention to the intake system. It is periodically necessary to clean the intake manifold and monitor the condition of the intake manifold motor.

1.8 TFSI first generation (EA888)

It first appeared in 2007 and was positioned as a completely new development. Despite the fact that this was the first generation, it is considered a relatively successful option among the TFSI. Its resource allows the motor to exceed 250, or even 300 thousand km. But this will require very high-quality service from understanding masters.

The identified problems are not that many, but they are. So, the owners can be annoyed by noises and metallic sounds. The reason lies in the timing chain, which stretches to about 100 thousand km. The chain problems don't end there. It may jump. This happens most often when parking on a slope with the hood up. The jump itself occurs at the start. The problem is especially relevant for cars manufactured before 2010. Then it was partially eliminated by modifying the tensioners and the chain itself. Nevertheless, such cases continue to be recorded, although much less often.

Floating speed may indicate coking of the valves. The reason lies in the design itself with direct fuel injection. It happens that the reason is in the swirl flaps of the collector, which are prone to contamination.

Increased oil consumption can signal a problem with the oil separator. In general, the engine, as a representative of the modern high-tech school, is very sensitive to the quality of the oil and the fuel consumed.

1.8 TFSI second generation (EA888)

A new generation appeared already in 2008. For a while, both generations were produced in parallel. The engine has received some changes. The cylinders were honed in a different way, changes were made to the design of some parts, and other attachments were installed. Thanks to this, the engine fits into the Euro-5 environmental standards. And although in principle there are few differences from the first generation, the units turned out to be very different in terms of reliability.

The main problem with these motors is a crazy oil appetite. The culprit of this phenomenon is the piston rings of a special design. They were made very thin and with small drainage holes. The first symptoms may appear as early as 50 thousand km, and by 100 thousand the oil can be consumed by whole liters for just one thousand kilometers. All this leads to the fact that the car may require major repairs already in the region of 100 thousand km. There is no single solution to the problem. Sometimes it helps to replace rings with more suitable constructive ones. But it so happens that the condition of the cylinders forces you to make a boring. And this entails the installation of oversized pistons. It is worth noting that in the end the problem was solved by the manufacturer at the end of 2011.

The consequences of such a butter oil can be floating revolutions. This is due to oil deposits from the abundant ingress of oil into a variety of engine cavities. To eliminate the phenomenon, disassembly and tidying of the cylinder head will be required. Some instances require such procedures every 50 thousand km.

In the interval of 100-150 thousand km, an extension of the chain occurs. There is only one solution - replacement. Necessarily the whole set and, most importantly, on the details of the new sample. The high pressure fuel pump can also add troubles due to which gasoline can get into the oil. It is treated only by replacing the assembly.

It is rather difficult to talk about any statistics of the resource of these engines. After all, a lot depends on the operating conditions, quality service and, most importantly, the prompt elimination of the causes of malfunctions. In addition, the engine is very negatively affected by short runs and regular driving in city traffic jams.

2.0 TFSI second generation (EA888)

Only the second generation of engines of this series was installed on the Audi A4. Structurally, it was developed on the basis of the second generation 1.8 TFSI, while taking over all its diseases and problems that were discussed in the previous section.

2.0 TFSI third generation (EA888)

In 2011, the series was replenished with a new generation. The engineers made an effort to rehabilitate themselves from the extremely problematic second generation. In the main issue concerning the problem of excessive oil appetite, they have been able to achieve some success. But it is still impossible to call the motor super reliable.

For example, a change in the injection design from direct injection to injection into the intake manifold made it possible to significantly reduce the formation of carbon deposits, but not completely eliminate it. Also, the problem of chain stretching has not been resolved. It is still necessary to carefully monitor its condition after 100 thousand km.

The figure of 100 thousand is significant for this motor. In the area of this run, it becomes necessary to adjust the turbine actuator. In the area of the same hundred, oil pressure may drop. There may be several reasons: the worn condition of the camshafts and bushings, a malfunction of the oil pump or pressure sensor, filter defects, and the quality of the oil itself.

Another known engine problem is associated with phase shifter valves. In this case, the motor "troit", "diesel" and shaking appear. Only the replacement of the faulty unit will help in this. The thermostat and pump also have a low resource.

As for the common resource, it is undoubtedly higher than that of the predecessor of the previous generation. Nevertheless, it is still very individual, as the motor is very sensitive to operating conditions.

A little about flagships

The most voluminous engine installed on the Audi A4 is 3.2 FSI. This is if you do not take into account the "charged" modifications S4 / RS4. It is not so easy to meet him, since his main purpose was to complete the larger models of the brand and the concern. Therefore, such a specific combination often attracts only true fans of the brand, for whom dynamics is very important.

Direct fuel injection made the engine very moody about its quality. But this is not the biggest problem. The specially coated aluminum block on the cylinders, in combination with the high operating temperatures, results in a fairly rapid scuffing of these surfaces. It is difficult to predict this phenomenon. Some motors quietly drive up to detection and 200 thousand, and some do not reach even 150 thousand. The consequences of this are increased oil consumption, loss of power, the appearance of extraneous noise, strong vibration. There is only one way out of this - major repairs.

Supercharged heir

In 2008, the 3.0 TFSI EA837 series was released. For its development, 3.2 FSI was taken as a basis. The cylinder block has been redesigned for supercharging, and a different crankshaft and pistons have been installed. As a result, this reduced the working volume to three liters. The cylinder heads have been slightly modified, but generally remain the same. The main innovation was the presence of a compressor.

The new engine and some unpleasant features were inherited from the ancestor. So it was not possible to completely overcome the problem of scoring. On this unit, it no longer stands so sharply, nevertheless, on some specimens this occurs. Especially if you often drive actively on an unheated engine. The manifestation of this is usually an increased oil appetite. Although it could be caused by the same rings.

In addition, the engine has a rather weak exhaust system as a whole. Burnouts, destruction of catalysts and other violations of the integrity of the structure occur periodically. Some copies annoy with a bang at startup. To identify the cause, a competent diagnosis of the contents of the cylinder head will be required. The low pressure fuel pump and pump are not reliable.

However, the heir is still more reliable than his capricious ancestor. Subject to the rules of good service, the motor can easily live 200-250 thousand km.

Why, who wants to buy a used car, might want to buy an old but decent looking Audi A4 B5? We will answer this question in detail in our article. But it is worth clarifying that, first of all, this car attracts with its price and relatively modern look, although it was produced until 2001.

Despite the fact that competitors from German manufacturers, at the time of the termination of production of the Audi A4, there were already more modern models, but their cost is higher, and the technical condition and equipment of the Audi A4 is worthy of the current time.

In addition, the car was equipped with a well-chosen range of powertrains, which covers the many tastes of consumers. The motors included simple units with low power, units focused on efficiency and engines with increased power. And as an option, a proprietary drive system and climate control were available, which will delight many owners.

Body quality Audi A4 B5

Before making an informed choice of one of the copies of this car, it should be borne in mind that the model has been produced since 1994, and today it has a decent age. Therefore, you should not expect an ideal condition from a used car, even the youngest copy has already passed the 15-year mark. Agree, this is a respectable age for modern cars.

But even the first copies can boast of a relatively good body condition, although traces of corrosion will already appear in many places. Due to the fact that the entire body of the car is made of galvanized metal, rust appears and spreads reluctantly. At the same time, the quality of the paintwork is at a good level, although the models before restyling in 1997 have a weaker paint quality.

Therefore, when inspecting a car and detecting repainting, this is not a reason to be sure that the car has been in a serious accident. It is possible that the owner conscientiously monitored the condition of the Audi A4, and put it in order for personal use.

Nevertheless, when examining the car, it is worth paying attention to the condition of the main body elements, which play an important role in the body structure and its rigidity. Also, it is necessary to inspect the thresholds, roof pillars, the joints of the engine shield and the niche under the windshield. Moreover, in the latter case, there were precedents of complete clogging of drains, and the niche turned into a real aquarium. This has a detrimental effect on the bodywork, and water can enter the electronic engine control unit, which is not protected from moisture.

Also, it will not be superfluous to look through the luggage compartment. The most vulnerable place in the rear of the car is a niche for a spare wheel, and two side tool niches. By the way, the presence of moisture in the luggage compartment is a serious cause for concern about the reliability of some of the electronics. There is a switching unit for the standard anti-theft system, a parking sensor control unit and other elements of the rear electrical system.

Even well-groomed and fresh-looking specimens can hide many small and not very small problems with the body. All the same, it is necessary to take into account the age of the car and the desire of sellers to present their car in a favorable light, without spending large sums on repairs. But it is worth paying tribute to the designers and engineers who created this model, this car holds up with dignity even after 20 years of operation.

The last word about the state of the body will be said that the future owner should carefully consider the inspection of the car and identify traces of major repairs. Unfortunately, in the secondary market, you come across restored copies that were welded from two or more cars.

Interior quality of the Audi A4 B5

In the cabin, we can conclude that at the time of production of the model - it was made of high-quality materials, but time takes its toll. Therefore, future owners will have to face some "age" problems.

First of all, this refers to the worn condition of the seat covers and the steering wheel trim. Also, there will be scuff marks on the door handles and buttons. But it is worth noting that this model has a high maintainability factor, and the search for original, but used, elements will not be difficult, and their cost will surprise you with their relative cheapness. In addition, the owner will have at his disposal an extensive market of Chinese parts with quality and price for every taste.

Therefore, such frequent problems as a broken lock on the glove box, or a broken armrest will not cause any particular problems. The only thing that will cause inconvenience is a capricious automatic climate control system, with regular failure of sensors, a gear motor and a control unit, but restyled versions are more reliable in this regard. By the way, the airbags on this model are easily replaceable and readily available in the aftermarket of spare parts.

For the rest, I see no reason to describe all the nuances of the car's interior, which, at best, will be 16 years old.

The quality of electrical and electronics on the Audi A4 B5

The car has been produced since 1994, as already mentioned, which implies simplicity in the wiring and electronic stuffing of the car in comparison with modern models. Therefore, even age-related diseases will not cause much trouble. But it will be necessary to take into account some of the nuances.

For example, routing wires under the hood, and especially in the doors, is not very successful. Therefore, given the age of the car, the owner will have to deal with frequent wire breaks or outgoing contacts. Also, the owners note the low quality of the button blocks for controlling the power windows, the trunk lock and the safety hatch drive. Therefore, you can prepare in advance for the purchase of these items.

Also, the wiring can have numerous marks of unprofessional repair, which will complicate future maintenance. In some cases, you have to change the wiring to the original wiring harness in the cabin and under the hood.

Also, in practice, it is noted that there are flaws in the fuse box from the designers who installed insufficiently powerful elements on some parts of the car. Because of what, you have to have a couple of sets of different fuses in stock. In addition, there may be problems with the central locking.

Chassis and suspension

Many readers who have studied in detail the information about the Audi A4 B5 may have a false idea about the complexity and high cost of maintaining the front suspension. This fact is undeniable, the complex multi-link suspension was difficult to maintain, and the cost of parts reached unimaginable prices, but this was the case at the time of production of the model. At the moment, everything has changed, and today a complete replacement of all levers will cost from 3,000 to 12,000 rubles. It depends on how exactly the owner decides to repair the levers, replacing them with a new high-quality kit, or purchase remanufactured ones, which leave a little less than new components.

The same applies to relatively weak springs, which quickly "get tired". Today, you can purchase new and inexpensive domestically produced springs or choose between Chinese and European brands. By the way, the rear suspension on the front-wheel drive modifications is made of a single beam (albeit a complicated design). Therefore, the repair consists in replacing two silent blocks.

The rear suspension on cars with the proprietary quttro all-wheel drive system is more complicated. It is a two-wishbone design, characterized by excellent maintainability and availability of all elements, including all bushings and silent blocks, the cost of which starts from 200 rubles for non-original ones and reaches 850 rubles for original elements.

But the steering rack will have to be replaced by 200,000 km, but more often than not, cars in the secondary market have a higher mileage, and probably with a new rack. But you should take a closer look and diagnose if in doubt. The same applies to the hydraulic power steering pump, but its resource exceeds 250,000 km.

Powertrains Audi A4 B5

Considering that the car has been produced since the mid-nineties, then all the engines with which this model was equipped are of an outdated but reliable design. Therefore, there are no special and expensive problems with them.

Power units with a displacement of 1.6 liters and eight valves are distinguished by a successful design. At the same time, with a capacity of 101 hp, they look decent in city mode. But, for many car owners, there may not be enough power on country roads. The only drawback may be that constant operation at high speeds will lead to coking of the piston rings.

The simplicity and solid period of use of these motors has led to the fact that maintenance of the power unit costs modest amounts. But it is worth remembering that many offers on the secondary market already had to undergo one or two major overhauls. If you know that the first service takes place at the turn of 250,000 - 300,000 kilometers, and the subsequent ones depend on the quality of the used components and the level of the master, then the future owner will understand how many repairs were made. But before buying, it is worth conducting a detailed diagnosis in order to know in advance about future repair costs.

The engine itself, very unpretentious in maintenance, and a large number of new and used spare parts, including more modern cylinder blocks, will be an excellent help for repair and further operation.

Motors with a volume of 1.8 refer to a younger and more technically complex design. They feature a more sophisticated valve timing system with five valves per cylinder. And more powerful versions with a turbine have an intake phase control system, and have their own "weak points".

The most common questions about 1.8 motors are related to heavy wear. Therefore, you can often find motors with a noisy timing chain due to stretching of the links of the chain itself and wear of the tensioner. Cases with leaks of the heat and oil exchanger, pipes of the cooling system and coking of the ventilation system of crankcase gases are not uncommon.

Otherwise, the motor is equipped with a reliable piston group and is assembled from high-quality materials. This makes it possible to operate the power unit and more than 300,000 km without major repairs. Most often, this motor has to be repaired due to attachments and additional systems.

Also, it can be separately noted about the good possibilities of forcing the engine. Today, there are many tuning parts from different manufacturers. Also, many craftsmen have learned to sort out hydraulic chain tensioners, which reduces the cost of work, and there is no need to search for original parts.

Powerful modifications of the model with V6 engines were completed with some of the most reliable models of units in the rich line of Audi. These engines are distinguished by their absolute unpretentiousness to fuel quality, tolerance to overheating, a large gap in oil quality and excellent repair capabilities. In addition, the unit's own resource exceeds 400,000 km. But this property also has a downside, because of its reliability, the engine does not require attention until it is completely worn out. Therefore, most of the cars on the market with six-cylinder engines require major maintenance.

Of the standard "sores", it is possible to note the unsuccessful design of the crankcase ventilation system. And a relatively small resource of the elements of the gas distribution mechanism. Although the engine has a high fuel consumption (about 12 liters per 100 km), if you can find a copy in good condition, then it should be taken.

Also, more modern units with a 30-valve cylinder head do not bring much trouble to their owner. In addition, they have less appetite for fuel. But the more complex design is more expensive to maintain.

There are not very many diesel modifications, but they are present on the secondary market. For all the time, the model was equipped with in-line four-cylinder engines and V-shaped six-cylinder engines. The first version was produced with a working volume of 1.9 liters. At the same time, it had atmospheric and turbocharged modifications with a capacity of 75 and 115 horsepower, respectively. It is believed that the most powerful modification of a turbocharged diesel engine for 115 horses was equipped with low-resource pump injectors. But this statement is not entirely true, they are very demanding on the quality and purity of fuel. Otherwise, the motors are considered very reliable and resource-intensive.

The V-6s are not entirely successful when compared to previous diesels. Even though the motors were equipped with classic nozzles paired with a reliable injection pump, they had their own problems. But there were also advantages - according to the assurances of the drivers, the diesel modification of the Audi A4 B5 with a 150 horsepower engine had better dynamics than the gasoline modification with a 193 horsepower engine.

In principle, most of the problems appear due to the age of the aggregates. Therefore, there are frequent cases of problems with the cooling system. Or rather, with a small area radiator, leaks in cracked pipes and with breakdowns of the system pumps. In addition, most cars have serious problems with the wiring in the engine compartment, which leads to regular malfunctions of various systems.

On a car over the age of 15, do not expect working catalytic converters. On most specimens, they have been cut out for a long time or are in a completely clogged state. The same applies to most attachments. By this time, all the auxiliary elements are already working out their resource, and are completely replaced by analogs or "breathe in incense."

First of all, before buying this car, you should pay attention to the search for "collective farm" repair or tuning. Due to its reliability and low cost, the car has gained popularity among the younger generation of drivers who are trying to transform the car and its power unit for greater dynamics, or reduce the cost of necessary repairs.

Transmission on Audi A4 B5

As with all elements of this model, there are no particular complaints if we consider the car as new. But everything changes when you consider the age of the car and its mileage.

The manual transmission is quite reliable, but there is a constant risk of damage to the dual-mass flywheel, which were installed on cars with V-shaped sixes and 1.8-liter turbocharged engines. Most often, the flywheel is changed to a used part and is forgotten until the next time. But there are masters who prefer to replace it with a regular one. At the same time, many parts have to be changed, which can cost a pretty penny. And delaying the repair when the first signs appear is fraught with the destruction of the box body.

It is worth noting that the all-wheel drive versions with the proprietary quttro system do not differ in high operating costs. The rear gearbox is reliable and able to work for a long time. And the propeller shaft calmly survives a mileage of 250,000 km. But this statement is true for cars operating in a quiet mode. Therefore, when choosing a car, it is worth paying attention to the condition of the cardan; its restoration can be expensive and take a lot of time to find the necessary parts.

But automatic transmissions are more varied and more rare. The fact is that most cars with automatic transmissions lost their boxes back in the 90s. Simply, replacing the broken box with mechanics was easier and cheaper. Therefore, finding an Audi A4 B5 equipped with an automatic transmission is not an easy task, all the more, you need to look for a copy in good condition.

On cars with gasoline engines 1.6 - 1.8 liters and a diesel unit of 1.9 liters, a four-speed transmission developed by VolksWagen was installed. This box has gained real popularity among automakers due to its reliability and unpretentiousness. But it is worth clarifying that the transmission on the restyled and pre-styling modifications is seriously different in the electronic control system.

On turbocharged engines of 1.8 liters and V-shaped sixes, more modern machines were installed in five steps. This box has a good resource and a streamlined repair or restoration mechanism.

In addition, it is worth clarifying that the car was equipped with numerous options and modifications of machines. Also, front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions are structurally different. Therefore, you will have to carefully search for spare parts in catalogs.

Five-speed gearboxes have a good resource and are slightly preferable to four-speed ones. Basically, the box suffers from worn out linings for blocking the gas turbine engine and worn out valves of the hydraulic block. If you stop servicing the gearbox, then massive problems will begin with the oil pump, the pressure of the oil itself in the box, the filter, and so on. The first signs of problems that have begun are jerks and jerks when switching between the steps.

Although a five-speed automatic machine easily tolerates overheating, constant operation in extreme modes affects the performance of the electronic filling, and reduces the resource to 150,000 - 200,000 km. But using the car in a quiet mode, the machine can work up to 350,000 km.

Output

Despite the age of the Audi A4 B5, it looks quite attractive to purchase. But nevertheless, it is better to purchase a restyled version, which got rid of many childhood diseases, and the galvanized body will allow the car to look in good condition for a long time. It should be borne in mind that simple and reliable, but outdated power units have a good appetite for fuel, but their unpretentiousness and maintainability can compensate for these shortcomings.

Again, given that the youngest specimen is currently at least 16 years old, before buying, it is imperative to carry out a full and comprehensive diagnosis of all vehicle components.

The first generation of the Ingolstadt Quartet received the B5 index. The AUDI A4 B5 has been in development for five years, the serial Audi sedan was introduced in 1994. Based on the year of the start of production, we can conclude that the "four" is the same age as the representative one, but other elite representatives of the "D" class were the direct competitors of the model: and. The B5 is built on the same platform as the Passat. The model turned out to be quite in demand, in 1995 alone, 290,000 cars were sold, while the plan for the year was 250,000. In 1998, the millionth car was sold. A4 production ended in 2001.

External review of the Audi A4 B5

In 1994, only a sedan was introduced, but a year later a station wagon, with its own name - Avant, entered the market. The versatility of the latter was complemented by roof rails, they are not at all superfluous, since the volume of the luggage compartment of the Ingolstadt car cannot be called a record. The station wagon premiered in Bologna. Audi door handles in both body types are made for the lower grip - this is the trend of the past. The body itself is galvanized and if the car did not tolerate high-quality body repair, then even on the body of copies of the first years of rust you will not see. The car is put on 195/65 R15 tires.

Salon and Equipment

The dashboard is made in the traditional style for the brand - white instrument scales and red arrows. There are no deep "wells" here, as in newer machines, but this does not harm readability. The basic equipment of the cheapest car included front power windows, central locking, front airbags. The front seats can be adjusted in height. The optional seat heating has six modes. On the center console, the triangular emergency gang button takes the leading place, to the right of it there is a retractable cup holder. The climate system unit is located below. The rear sofa is able to comfortably accommodate two passengers, but tall people can rest their knees on the back of the chair, and three will be too cramped in the shoulders. As mentioned above, the trunk of the station wagon is not too roomy - only 390 liters, for a station wagon this is clearly not enough, even the sedan holds more - 440 liters. Our motorists will surely like having a full-size spare wheel, not a stowaway.

Technical part and characteristics of the Audi A5 B5

The least powerful 1.6-liter gasoline unit has an eight-valve cylinder head and produces 101 horses. The next in power - 1.8l 20v (five valves per cylinder) - 125 forces, the turbocharged version 1.8t produces 150hp. Six-cylinder units have great power: 2.4 - 165hp, 2.8 - 193hp. It is worth remembering that Audi's six-cylinder units eat up oil and its level should be monitored, because during oil starvation, seizures may appear, and the oil pressure lamp may not light up.

The 1.9t diesel engine produces 90 and 110 forces (depending on the modification), such a motor was installed on the Volkswagen Passat of those years. The most powerful diesel engine - 2.5t V6 produces 150 forces and allows to develop 220 kilometers per hour on the highway.

In gasoline units, the oil should be changed at least once every 15,000, and the 2.5t diesel is especially picky about the quality of the oil, it should be changed every 7,000 km.

The timing belt should be replaced after 60,000 km, although the manufacturer indicates - 120,000, but there are known cases of belt breakage after 70,000 km.

Already in the basic equipment there is ABS and power steering.

Unlike most of the "D" -class, the A4 has a multi-link suspension in front of it, not a McPherson. It is the front multi-link with four levers for each wheel that provides the car with excellent handling and stability. But this design is not very reliable, the upper levers run longer than the lower ones, the lower ones, with constant German operation, it is advisable to change every year. Some owners decided to inject the ball joints, passing the needle through the boot - this allows to increase the service life of the lower arms by 7,000 - 10,000 km. The ball joints themselves are pressed into the lever and change together. Fortunately for the owners, new lower arms began to be installed in 1998, which are capable of pushing out 40,000. Almost all AUDI A4 B5s that are on the road today are already equipped with such lower arms, even if they were released before 1998.

At the beginning of production of the B5, ball joints were installed in the stabilizer struts, they were designed for a mileage of 20,000. In order to increase the reliability of the unit, Audi engineers introduced new struts with silent blocks as in the "80", the improved struts run at 40,000 - 60,000.

Front hub bearings and steering tips live for 50 - 70 thousand.

The rear suspension of the front-wheel drive versions is generally more durable than the front, but the wheel hubs at the rear live less: 30,000 - 40,000. Maintenance of the rear suspension of the Quattro will cost three times more.

Shock absorbers serve 70,000 - 100,000 each.

ABS sensors are not very reliable, they usually ask for replacement once a year.

Spark plugs should be changed every 30-40 thousand, and not 60,000 - as indicated by the manufacturer.

As a gearbox, a five-speed mechanic and an automatic machine for four and five steps are offered. In the Audi machine, the oil change should be carried out at 50-60 thousand. It is very important to fill in ATF (recommended by the manufacturer), and not Dextron - many people pour it. The clutch on the manual gearbox serves 130,000 - 150,000.

The six-speed manual is found only on the sporty S4 and RS4. The RS4 has been produced since 1999 and only as a station wagon. Under the hood of the RS4, a turbocharged 2.7 V6 was installed, which produced 380hp and allowed to gain 200 km in 17.7s, it takes 4.9s to accelerate to the first hundred. The S4 has the same displacement engine, but it produces a less impressive 265hp.

Let's pay attention to the technical characteristics of the AUDI 1.8t quattro with mechanics, in the sedan body.

Content

Since 1972, Audi began producing a family of middle-class cars, called the Audi 80. In 1994, these cars became known as A4 and the last model of the "eightieth" series, the Audi 80 B3, was produced since 1994 under a new index.

All A4 cars were produced in two body styles: 4-door sedans and Avant station wagons, but some models were also produced in a 2-door coupe body (B6 and B7).

At the moment, the seventh generation of the Audi A4 B7 is in production, which has been produced since 2007. But according to some rumors, Ingoldtshadt is already working on a new generation of its middle class.

Audi A4 B5

The first generation of Audi A4 (if we count with the Audi 80 - the fifth) appeared in 1994 and replaced the previous model Audi 80. But since the A4 in its segment was a continuation of the “eightieth” model line, it received the internal code Audi A4 B5. Although technically the A4 was developed from scratch - a completely new platform with a multi-link suspension, new gasoline and diesel engines from 1.6 to 2.8 liters (except for the 2.6 engine borrowed from the previous model) and redesigned transmissions.

In 1999, the car underwent restyling, during which it received a full set of airbags already in the basic version, modified versions of engines and an improved suspension.

Real feedback on the fuel consumption of the Audi A4 B5 per 100 km

  • Valery, Khabarovsk. I bought a car from a friend. I knew that although he was in 1995, he was in excellent condition - an acquaintance really looked after the car. The engine (volume 1600 cubes) has just recently been overhauled, everything has been replaced, so the consumption is normal - in winter in the city up to 13 liters, in winter - 10. On the highway there is even less - only 6.5 liters.
  • Denis, Arkhangelsk. I drive a 1997 Audi A4, 1.6 engine mechanics. Despite the fact that only I have it for 10 years, in general there are no problems with it. For all the time I changed only the timing, well, I repaired the hodovka periodically - this is a normal phenomenon on our roads. In the city, I have a maximum consumption of 12 liters, on the highway about 6 liters - I think that this is not much.
  • Igor, Uglich. They brought the car from Germany. It was produced in 2000 and had one owner in Germany. I've been driving it for 2 years - I'm happy with everything. The engine is 1.8 liters, very good, on the highway up to 150 km / h it goes completely unnoticed, while the consumption is up to 8-9 liters, if you go 100-110 km / h - then generally 7 liters. In the city, of course, there are more from 11 to 14, depending on traffic jams and the time of year.
  • Semyon, Lipetsk. I have an Audi A4 B5, 1.8AT, 2000. The car is very good, it goes briskly for acceleration - the machine does not blunt at all. On average, 10 liters come out for me, in winter, of course, it jumps to 12-13 liters. The only negative is that the electronics have recently become buggy, so I plan to change it to something fresher. By the way, if I take it, I'll only be Audi.
  • Sergey, Tambov. The car is almost twenty years old - it was released in 1997, but as of its state you cannot tell at all. Of course, many components are slowly wearing out - the shock absorbers are already weak, the discs quickly eat up the pads, and the rear suspension generally began to behave "tough". But the engine is awesome - 2.6 liters with a high-spirited automatic, great in terms of dynamics. In addition, its consumption is not as large and as one might think - in a city more than 15-16 liters does not happen even with traffic jams, and 10 liters on the highway, but this is if it is normal to drown into the floor.
  • Vladimir, Oryol. For the fourth year I own an Audi A4 in the back of a B5, 1995. The machine, of course, is already old, but given that the spare parts are quite affordable and inexpensive, the repair is not a problem, especially since I have not yet had large-scale work. The most expensive thing I changed was the generator. The engine is 2.6 with a handle, so the consumption is sane - in the combined cycle, about 10 liters comes out.
  • Dmitry, Orenburg. I bought my Audi "four" in 2010 - at that time she was 13 years old. Despite the fact that I repaired it decently, I do not complain about anything. A very good 2.4-liter engine - it accelerates very quickly, and practically does not eat oil - it comes out about a liter per 1000 km. In the city, consumption is about 14 liters.
  • Victor, St. Petersburg. Recently I looked through cars produced in 2003-2005 - they are not suitable for my Audi and even outwardly, although mine is 1999. The engine is good - 2.8 liters, but gasoline eats like bad - in the city, even in the most economical mode, there is no less than 15 liters. After traveling for six months, the clutch flew - I had to change it.
  • Anatoly, Belgorod. Before buying an Audi A4 in the "fifth" body, I drove exclusively in the domestic auto industry. When I moved to the "German" - as if I got to heaven. A 1999 car - then the phrase "German quality" meant a lot, such cars are not being produced now. There is a separate song about the motor in general - a 1.9-liter diesel engine, it does not work - it sings simply. In the city, I have a consumption of up to 7 liters, no more, and on the highway in general 5 l / 100 km.

Audi A4 B6

The production of the second generation Audi A4 in the "sixth" body began in 2001. Despite the fact that this model was in production for only four years - from 2001 to 2005, more than a million cars were produced during this time, and almost 30% of them were station wagons.

Audi A4 B6 was equipped with a wide range of engines. Of the gasoline engines, versions were offered with atmospheric engines of 1.6, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.2 liters, as well as turbocharged engines of 1.8 and 2.0 liters. Among diesel units, only supercharged engines with a volume of 1.9, 2.0, 2.5, 2.7 and 3.0 liters were installed.

"Six" was the first Audi A4, on which a new automatic transmission of the Multitronic type was applied - it was installed along with the usual Tiptronic automatic transmission and a 5-speed manual transmission.

Real fuel consumption of Audi A4 B6

  • Mikhail, Astrakhan. I drive an Audi A4, model B6, with a 1.6 liter engine, mechanic. I have owned it for five years now - I am happy with everything, the power of the 1.6-liter engine is enough both in the city and on the highway, while the consumption in the city is not higher than 11 liters. Of the minuses - the ground clearance would be higher and a very sensitive fuel system to the quality of gasoline. Once I just refueled at some left gas station (there was no other option), when a gas pump flew after 100 km.
  • Gennady, Anapa. I have always believed that the best cars are assembled in Germany. Believe me, there is something to compare with - a couple of times I got pure "Americans", the build quality just sucks. At the moment I ride an Audi A4 in the back of a B6 - they drove from Cologne on request. Complete set with an automatic gearbox and a 2-liter motor, year of manufacture - 2001 The only thing I did was to eliminate the increased oil consumption as soon as they drove in, and that's it. As for the consumption on the highway, it consumes from 6 to 7 liters, in the city there is no more than 12 liters.
  • Andrey, Yekaterinburg. Everyone says the Japanese make good cars. So, if you compare my 2001 Audiuhu A4 with the same Japanese, this is heaven and earth. By the way, although it is believed that VW Passat and Audi A4 are made on the same base - that's all bullshit. I had a Passat before - the hodovka was falling apart, Audi has no such problems at all. And diesel is generally a fire - 6.5 liters in the city, 4.5 liters on the highway - this is with a volume of 1.9.
  • Ruslan, Moscow. What I like about the Audi A4 is that it really still has that famous German quality. And the equipment in my model with a 2.4AT engine is quite rich - an ESP system, a Multitronic automatic machine, heated seats, a 10-year body warranty. Although the engine is voluminous and also with a gun, the consumption is not that big - 7.5 liters on the highway, 13.5 liters in the city.
  • Alexander, Vladikavkaz. Before buying an Audi A4 in the sixth body, I rode a 1991 Audi 80. After changing the car - happy as an elephant. The motor is a V-shaped "six" of 3 liters, pulls very well both at speed and in the city, while its consumption is really small - about 14 liters in the city (without serious traffic jams), and 8-9 liters on the highway ...
  • Dmitry, Irkutsk. I bought a car from my good friend. I knew that he was watching him, he was constantly doing MOT and all that, so I agreed to buy - the car is still produced in 2001, I think that this is a decent period. A friend himself showed where there are chips on the body - I would not have noticed them in my life, but before the sale I completely did MOT, replaced candles, pads, filters and other consumables. By the way, I advised you to choose only proven gas stations - a 2.5-liter diesel engine does not really like our diesel fuel, although with normal diesel fuel it has a consumption of up to 10 liters in the city, and 5.5 liters on the highway.
  • Pavel, Togliatti. When I bought my 2001 Audi A4 B6 1.8MT, it had already run 70 thousand. I have owned it for seven years, skated almost 100 thousand more - there have never been any serious breakdowns. A reliable and high-quality middle-class car - without unnecessary luxury, but everything with it. Spare parts are true (if you take the originals) are decent. Mixed mode consumption - 9 liters.
  • Evgeny, Khabarovsk. I believe that Audi is generally the best brand, probably the only one of the Germans who has not deteriorated over time. I have driven an Audi A4 in the back of a B6 before - the car has served me faithfully for almost 8 years. With an automatic transmission and a 1.8-liter engine, I spent up to 12 liters in the city, on the highway - 7, and the car accelerated very quickly. Now I sold it and I drive a new A4 - there are even more positive impressions.

Audi A4 B7

The B6 generation was replaced by a new generation - the Audi A4 B7, based on the same PL46 platform. Despite this, the car had a modified body geometry, modified control settings, more modern electronic systems and a new line of power units, which were based on engines created using FSI technology. But the basic engines remained the same - naturally aspirated 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter engines, a 1.8 turbocharged engine, and a 2-liter turbodiesel.

Reviews on the fuel consumption of the Audi A4 B7 per 100 km

  • Anton, Moscow. Before his Audi in the back of the B7 already owned the same, but the previous generation. In general, I wanted to take a Japanese, but my wife really liked Audi and therefore decided to take this brand. I've been driving it for more than six years now - I'm happy with everything, I've never had any complaints. In fact, it contains all the advantages of the B6 and a number of new options. As for the consumption, it practically did not change - on average, with a 2.0-liter engine and an automatic gearbox, I get 9 liters.
  • Vitaly, Sevastopol. I don't know why people are so fanatical about Audi. I used to drive only the Japanese, but the devil pulled me to buy an Audi A4 in the back of a B7. She does not drive - she constantly breaks down, and in part costs crazy money. I drove 50 thousand on it - during this time I repaired the gearbox, the clutch, twice the suspension and little things. The only thing I like is the average fuel consumption of 9-10 liters, while the automatic transmission and the 1.8-liter engine.
  • Valery, Kursk. Before buying an Audi A4, I drove only VAZs - "ninety-ninth" and "ten". Naturally, for me, Audi is the pinnacle of engineering in everything that the automotive industry can create. A torquey 1.6-liter engine consumes a little gasoline - in the city up to 10-11 liters, on the highway in general 6 liters. The only weak point is the suspension, but with our roads, it is quickly killed in any car.
  • Konstantin, Chelyabinsk. I drive an Audi A4, 2005, 1.6MT engine. I bought a car in 2007 with 40 thousand mileage. Immediately I drove with the seller to the service station to see my friends - they made a diagnosis and said that the car was in perfect condition. It is very economical - in the city there is no more than 10 liters of consumption, on the highway you can invest in 6.5 liters. Naturally, if you heat 160 km / h, then the consumption will be much higher.
  • Irina, Kostroma. I have long wanted to buy myself an Audi, only A3, but I found a good offer - A4 2006, 1.6 engine, very good condition. Unlike other women, I don't like the automatic machine at all, so I always choose mechanics. On average, I consume up to 8-9 liters, but I drive carefully. What I don't like is that some kind of knock in the suspension has recently begun to appear - you will have to go to a car service.
  • Andrey, Moscow. Since the car was bought as a family car - that is, both of us and my wife had to drive - we also chose together. I wanted to buy something good, so we looked mainly at Germans and Volvo. We stopped at Audi A4 - in terms of comfort it is not inferior to BMW and other expensive cars, and at a price it is much more attractive. Diesel engine, 2 liters - so I consider the consumption of 8 liters in Moscow to be very economical, especially since 4.5 liters is generally available outside the city.
  • Vladimir, Dnepropetrovsk. The car was brought to me in 2012 from Germany - a seven-year-old Audi A4. Although she had a consumption of 150 thousand at that time, I believe that on German roads this is nothing - at least in the car service they said that the suspension, although aluminum, is in excellent condition. I have a 1.9 liter diesel engine, so the consumption is low - in the city up to 7.5 liters, on the highway - 4.5-5.0.
  • Sergey, Nizhny Novgorod. Joining the reviews of Audi owners - the car has no problems with increased oil consumption. The maximum that comes out for me is 1 liter of oil for 8000-8500 km, no more, as some say. And gasoline consumption is quite sane - with a three-liter engine and multitronic in the city cycle, the costs are 15 liters with traffic jams and traffic lights.
  • Nikolay, Voronezh. I think this is one of the best diesel cars out there. Good throttle response of the engine, very stable on the highway at high speed - 160-170 km / h goes quietly, while the consumption is 5-6 liters. There are certainly more in the city - up to 7.5 liters. The only negative is that it is rather small for our roads.

Audi A4 B8

Since 2008, the Audi A4 has been in production in the B8 version. The car was presented back in the fall of 2007 - it was a completely new model, built on the MLP platform, identical to that on which the Audi A5 model was created. Despite the fact that the new platform has increased dimensions compared to the PL46 platform, on which the two previous models were based, the total weight of the car due to the widespread use of modern lightweight alloys has decreased by almost 150 kg.
Traditionally, the range of power units has also changed. For the A4 B8, the base is now a turbocharged 1.8-liter FSI engine with 120 hp. Also installed on the car are gasoline turbocharged engines with a volume of 2.0 liters, a forced version of a 1.8 liter engine with a capacity of 170 hp, and turbodiesels 2.0, 2.7 and 3.0 liters.

Fuel consumption rate Audi A4 B8 - owner reviews

  • Grigory, St. Petersburg. I have probably been driving an Audi for about 15 years already. Therefore, if I buy a new car, then only with four rings on the radiator. Usually I bought a used car - but this time I decided to buy a new one. I took the basic version with a 1.8AT engine, 2010. The salon is really bigger and more comfortable, the engine is economical - about 11 liters comes out in the city. But all the same, the main drawback of this series - low ground clearance - remained.
  • Valery, Tula. Through friends in 2011, I bought a two-year-old Audi A4 with a mileage of 40 thousand in Germany. I took a 2-liter diesel engine, with a turbine and an automatic gearbox. There are 110 thousand on the odometer, and the car is like new. Outside the city, if you don't drive much, then you can keep within 4.4-4.8 liters, in the city there is actually more - 7.5 liters. For repairs - 2 times to repair the front bumper, because due to the low clearance, I hooked them with the curb.
  • Valentina, Lipetsk. In general, I wanted myself a small car like Hyundai Getz, but my work colleague dissuaded me - they say, it's better to take a good Audi with a run than a new "box". By the way, he helped me choose a car - a diesel Audi A4 2010, with a 2.7 engine and an automatic transmission. It turned out to be more expensive than I had planned, but the car costs 200%. The main thing is that the consumption is less than in the same Goetz, in the city there are 8 liters, no more.
  • Gennady, Akhtyrsk. I don’t know how, but Audi engineers manage to make the car better with each new generation and at the same time retain the classic recognizable features in it. Excellent finish and quality, a powerful and reliable 2-liter engine, a confident and dynamic Multitronic automatic machine, comfort and convenience - in general, everything is with him. Even the consumption is small - 12 liters in the urban cycle for a car of this class and with such an engine - this is not so much as it seems at first glance.
  • Kirill, Moscow. Until Audi went to Skoda. Cars in the same class, but Audi still has richer equipment and more comfortable interior. And Skoda has no trace of engines with a volume of 3 liters and a mixed mode consumption of 10 l / 100 km. But the Skoda is higher - literally 3-4 mm, but you can feel it.
  • Yuri, Penza. Audi A4, diesel 3.0MT, 2009 Build - Germany, thoroughbred "German" with all that it implies. The downside is that the car is designed for Europe, so it has a low ground clearance - the Germans do not expect that we have not roads, but anti-tank ditches. But the body - the car is 6 years old and not a single speck of rust. On the highway, a diesel engine consumes only 5-6 liters, no more, but in the city I travel a little.
  • Dmitry, Korosten. In principle, the car is not bad - but the one who claims that spare parts and service for it are cheap is blatantly lying. In fact, maintenance costs good money, and the engine consumes oil, be healthy. On the other hand, if you do everything right, there will be no problems with the car at all. In terms of consumption - I have a 1.8AT engine, an average consumption of 8 liters.
  • Nikolay, Tver. Before buying an Audi A4 in 2012, it took a long and painful time to choose a car. It seems that I would like a better car and at the same time there was not so much money and there was not much money. We stopped at the Audi salon last - I thought that there were only executive class cars. We were surprised to find that for the planned amount we can easily buy an A4 in the basic configuration - a 1.8-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, automatic, and standard equipment. But even in the base, the Audi is much cooler than the "stuffed" Renault and Hyundai, and the consumption is low - on average 10 liters.
