This family "almost crossover", immediately after its appearance on Russian market- I found my niche, my fans. The model is designed for an ordinary family with 2-3 children. Taking everyone out into nature, taking with you a tent, bicycles, sleeping bags and a bunch of other absolutely necessary things, and most importantly a barbecue grill and a soup kettle - this will not be difficult with such a machine.

Skoda Octavia The Scout is a sort of all-terrain wagon - it seems like it's not an SUV, but there is four-wheel drive, a significant ground clearance (179 mm) is available, and a huge trunk of 1620 liters - a combination of all this beckons out of town.

Externally, there is nothing special about the Skoda Octavia Scout. The plastic is resistant to scratches along the bottom of the body - it looks rustic, but Skoda does not try to splurge. The machine impresses with its simplicity. But the wheel arches, front and rear bumper and the doors are protected from damage. The bottom is also protected. Round bumper mounted in front bumper, double exhaust pipe and 17-inch Proteus wheels give the Scout a sporty off-road look.

The interior of this car is comfortable, albeit somewhat old-fashioned. But everything is at hand and is made for people, so it does not cause irritation, but some nostalgia - the monochrome screen on-board computer, a green speedometer, a small sunroof you can't stick your head through. And yet all this is of excellent quality. Do not be afraid that something will start to fall off or creak - everything has been done in good faith.

There are very voluminous niches on the doors, a lot of devices for small things - cup holders, pockets, nets in the trunk. The main thing is not to forget what you put where. Interior color onyx looks very harmonious with dashboard... If you wish, you can buy a car with a more expensive interior design option - Alcantara leather trim looks great, it perfectly combines natural and artificial leather.

There are, of course, not entirely successful nuances. For example, the volume of music is regulated by the system depending on what the speed is, but this is done somewhat incorrectly, so you have to constantly intervene in the process. Although ... before, the volume was always adjusted manually and no one complained.

But when emergency braking automatically turns on "emergency gang" - it's annoying. Probably, the idea itself is not bad and serves security, but our mentality does not allow us to fully appreciate it. But, you see, all these are details that you can not focus on. Each has its own disadvantages.

Specifications. Skoda offers petrol and diesel options Octavia Scout, but only a modification equipped with a 1.8-liter turbocharged gasoline engine (152 hp) is supplied to the Russian market (as is already accepted). Both options are currently equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. Although, probably, many owners would prefer an automatic machine (which, by the way, has already become the de facto standard for crossovers).

Perhaps, on real off-road this "first Scout based on the second Octavia" will not always pass, but for Russian roads - be it a city street with "speed bumps" or a gravel lane - this is what you need. The car holds the road perfectly, enters the turns clearly, without the slightest roll. Chassis just amazingly good for a car with no pretensions. Only electronics can turn on the four-wheel drive, but it knows its business. Both on wet asphalt and on a snow-covered track, you will feel calm. Anti Slip Regulation - a system that increases the stability of the car on slippery surfaces, the EDS uphill start system, HBA + DSR brake complexes, which in the event of hard braking will distribute the force to the optimal wheels - all this is about your comfort on the road.

The Octavia Scout may be simple in design, but not so simple in terms of technical characteristics. We have already mentioned that it has a turbocharged engine. So it accelerates no worse than its counterparts, close in weight and class (in 8.7 seconds to 100 km / h) and the maximum speed is not bad - 208 km / h, and the gasoline consumption will pleasantly please - with a weight of one and a half tons, this station wagon burns just under 8 liters per 100 kilometers (mixed mode).

So, this is an almost ideal car for a family leading an active lifestyle - moderately passable, very roomy and, most importantly, everything in it is of German quality. Looks big enough, but there is a little secret - the wheelbase came from Golf and is exactly the same size. But, looking at "Scout", it is hard to believe in it.

Price for Skoda Octavia Scout in 2009, one ~ 969 thousand rubles, because it is offered (on the Russian market) in a single complete set.

Skoda is pretty famous brand in Russia. One of the popular models of this manufacturer is Octavia. It is a compact family car, produced as a liftback and station wagon. However, this is not the only modification of the Octavia. Its all-wheel drive version - "Skoda Octavia Scout" deserves special attention. Test drive, review, photos and specifications- further in our article.

Appearance

Design this car was copied from the Skoda Octavia liftback. This can be seen in many of the bodywork elements. In general, the Scout version was designed by analogy with the Audi Allroad, which, in turn, was developed on the basis of the A6.

The Czechs did a similar thing: taking the liftback platform, they increased the ground clearance and added more prominent bumpers and linings on the sidewalls. The car comes standard with xenon optics and 17-inch alloy wheels. In general, the design of the Skoda Octavia Scout car looks nice. The car has the habits of an SUV, and at the same time it is a classic European station wagon.

Are there problems with the bodywork?

As noted by the reviews, the Skoda Octavia Scout is well protected from rust. The bottom is additionally sewn up with plastic overlays. This at the same time protects against the ingress of dirt and at the same time has a positive effect on aerodynamics. However, there are a couple of points on the body. According to the reviews, in the "Skoda Octavia Scout" paint is wiped on the doorways. This is due to the sealing gum. As a result, these areas are covered with a rusty coating. Also on the radiator grill chrome fades. The corporate logo burns out. But this is only observed on versions before 2009. On new cars, there are no problems with either the seals or the radiator grille.

Dimensions, clearance

Auto "Skoda Octavia Scout" has almost the same dimensions as a regular liftback. Thus, the total body length is 4.58 meters, width - 1.77 meters, height - 1.53 meters. Among the features it is worth noting the clearance of the Skoda Octavia Scout. Clearance for standard discs is 18 centimeters. Thanks to this clearance, the car is able to overcome sandy roads without any problems and move confidently on a wet dirt road.

Interior

As noted by the reviews, the Skoda Octavia Scout has a comfortable and ergonomic interior. Everything is in its place. The controls are intuitive to use. However, there are many who give rise to criticism about the design. The interior is frankly old-fashioned. There are no distinctive elements here - everything is strict and familiar, just like on a Volkswagen.

The salon itself is not much different from the liftback. In fact, they are one and the same interior. The plastic in the cabin is soft to the touch, but the upholstery is not durable - say the reviews. On the positive side, the owners note the excellent visibility. Skoda Octavia Scout has informative mirrors and dead zones are minimized.

There is quite a lot of space in the cabin. Even tall people can fit comfortably here. This also applies to the rear row of seats. It accommodates up to three people. The only thing that raises complaints is the high body tunnel.

For Skoda Octavia Scout, only one configuration is provided - the maximum. What is included in the Skoda Octavia Scout package? it includes climate control, front and side airbags, rain and light sensors, anti-roll system and exchange rate stability systems, power steering, electric mirrors and power windows, and steering column with the possibility of adjustment.

Now about weak points Oh. As noted by the reviews, the Skoda Octavia Scout may have problems with the air conditioning system. The reason for this is the failure of the compressor. To prevent this, it is important to monitor the level of refrigerant in the system and not to allow the climate control to operate with a low Freon content. There is also a glitch in the windows - when they try to close, they begin to open again. The reason for this is trivial - contamination of the guides. After cleaning them, the windows work as expected.

The trunk is one of the main advantages of this car. He in the station wagon "Skoda Octavia Scout" has a volume of 580 liters. But this is far from the limit. The backrest can also be folded down. The result is a flat floor and a loading area of a whopping 1,620 liters. This is an order of magnitude more than in such competitors as Ford Focus, Renault Megan and Opel Astra.

Skoda Octavia Scout and specifications

Now let's pay attention to the power section of the car. Officially, Skoda Octavia Scout was delivered to Russia only with gasoline engines. Diesel engines for the Skoda Octavia Scout were not available in Russia. If there are any, these are versions brought from abroad.

The basic engine was an atmospheric engine with a working volume of two liters. He developed a capacity of 150 Horse power... In more expensive trim levels, a four-cylinder turbocharged 1.8-liter unit with 180 horsepower was provided.

What do the owners say about Skoda gasoline engines?

Power units of the FSI and TSI series are generally reliable and technologically advanced. Both engines are equipped with individual ignition coils, variable valve timing and direct fuel injection. Gas distribution mechanism - belt and chain for the older and younger motors, respectively.

But nevertheless, it was the two-liter power unit that turned out to be more reliable. As for malfunctions, over the years of operation, the owners have experienced:

It is also worth noting that the timing belt, according to the regulations, should be changed every 120 thousand kilometers. But experienced motorists are advised to reduce this mileage to 70 thousand. Indeed, if the belt breaks, the owner will go for expensive and serious repairs.

Among the pitfalls of the 1.8-liter turbo engine, the owners note increased consumption oils. It can be up to 800 grams per thousand kilometers. In this case, you must always control the level. Riding with low level oil leads to malfunctions with the timing (hydraulic chain tensioners fail). As a result, the chain slips over the gear. crankshaft several teeth. This increases the risk of valves hitting pistons. There is a problem B with the water pump. The pump loses its tightness over time. There are malfunctions with the turbocharger control solenoid valves. The pump fails high pressure.

Diesel

And what do the owners say about diesel Skodas imported from abroad? Here, too, there were some surprises. So, in these engines, problems with the injector o-rings are possible. As a result, fuel enters the lubrication system without hindrance. Otherwise diesel engine reliable and surprisingly well "digest" our fuel. The resource of the turbine is about 200 thousand kilometers.

Transmission

As for the transmission, the car is equipped with a mechanical six-speed gearbox. There are no problems with her. But on diesel modifications, a malfunction of the dual-mass flywheel is possible. The latter emits characteristic knocks and clicks when working on Idling... As a rule, such a malfunction is diagnosed on a mileage of 150 thousand kilometers or more.

In terms of service, mechanical box unpretentious. An oil change is required every 100 thousand kilometers. And the clutch resource can be up to 200 thousand kilometers. At the same run, it wears out and release bearing... There are no problems with the clutch drive, which is hydraulic.

Four-wheel drive

Without exception, all Scout vehicles come with four-wheel drive. He acts as follows. On hard asphalt surfaces, power is transmitted to the front wheels. However, when slipping, up to half the moment is redistributed to the rear axle. This is done thanks to the Haldex coupling. As interwheel locks - electronic imitation. The system automatically "bites" the turning wheels by means of blocks. Owners recommend disabling the ESP system when overcoming various obstacles, since the car simply refuses to go - the engine constantly decelerates. Locks (or rather, their imitation) are rarely saved.

As for the cross-country characteristics, you should not regard this car as an SUV. As the reviews say, the Skoda Octavia Scout is just a station wagon off-road, but it should not be attributed to SUVs. Its maximum is a snow-covered road or a muddy puddle.

Chassis

Its design is similar to that of a liftback. So, in front there is an independent suspension with MacPherson struts, in the back - a multi-link. Additionally, the car is equipped with two lateral stabilizers... Also note that the Scout uses different springs and shock absorbers.

As for the characteristics of the suspension, it is rather knocked down. The car holds the road well and easily enters corners at high speed. But off-road, this car is powerless - say the reviews. Skoda Octavia Scout has a good ride. The suspension swallows road joints and other irregularities well.

Now about the reliability. According to car owners, the suspension on the Skoda is quite hardy. After 80 thousand kilometers, the rear silent blocks of the front levers begin to fierce. The stabilizer struts nurture about 100 thousand kilometers. Ball joints have a resource of 200 thousand kilometers.

The rear suspension is equally reliable. After 100 thousand, bushings and stabilizer struts are changed. After 150 thousand, the bushings of the rear breakup levers require replacement. The wheel bearings, unfortunately, are changing assembled with the hub. But their resource is large - about 200 thousand kilometers. At the same mileage, the silent blocks of the remaining levers require replacement. But there are also disadvantages. During this time, the bolts become very sour. And it is quite difficult to replace anything in the suspension.

Steering- rail with electric amplifier. The tips have a high resource, the rail itself does not break up to 150 thousand. The braking system includes four disc mechanisms with ABS sensors. There are no particular problems with the brakes. The calipers do not sour and move normally. The pads wear out as on all cars - the front ones after 35 thousand, the rear ones last twice as long.

Summing up

So, we found out what the Skoda Octavia Scout station wagon is. This car has good ground clearance, so that the owner can feel confident on the roads outside the asphalt pavement. However, you should not count on anything more. Off-road capabilities of the "Scout" are small. At the same time, this car is quite versatile - it has a large trunk and a comfortable suspension. If you buy a similar copy, then only after 2009. The versions released earlier had a lot of "jambs" in the body and interior. As for the engine, the most reliable was the atmospheric two-liter power unit on a mechanical box. This combination will be ideal for this vehicle.

Skoda Octavia Scout is a representative of the all-wheel drive class of the model line of the renowned Czech car manufacturer. The Combi model was taken as the basis for the first car of this series, which managed to prove itself from the best side.

general information

The first Skoda Octavia Scout belonged to the “J” segment and were considered full-fledged off-road vehicles in all parameters and characteristics. Unlike its predecessor, on the platform of which the Scout was designed, the ground clearance is slightly higher and amounts to 180 mm, which was noticeable even in comparative photos. This indicator allows the car to move confidently on roads of any quality and structure.

For the first time, the Scout model rolled off the assembly line in 2004 and represented the second generation of the rather popular Skoda Octavia car (encoding 1Z5). The production of these cars continued until 2008. The upgraded Scouts were released to the public in late 2008, and full sales began in 2009. From 2008 to 2013, buyers were offered three modifications of the all-wheel drive Skoda Octavia Scout. The representative of the third generation Skoda Octavia A7 Scout appeared in 2013, and its sales began from the beginning of the next.

The latest Skoda Octavia A7 Scout (5E5) is an all-wheel drive vehicle with increased ground clearance, unlike its predecessors and standard models. The dimensions of the ground clearance and the 4x4 formula allow this machine to be used in the most extreme conditions. According to its technical characteristics, the new Scout can be attributed to the “D” segment, which was a prominent representative of a spacious family SUV. The body shape belongs to the category of station wagons, and the number of seats, including the driver's one, is 5. The same number of doors, including a vertically opening cover luggage compartment.

Powertrain and transmission

Scout models are equipped with both gasoline and diesel power units. The gasoline engine has 1,798 cc. cm. (1.8 liters) in volume and has a capacity of 180 hp. (132 kW) at 6200 rpm. The powertrain is traditionally located at the front of the vehicle and is equipped with an efficient turbocharging system, which ensures the impressive dynamic performance of the new Octavia Scout. Provided injection system fuel supply with its multipoint injection. Another engine option that buyers of these models can choose is the two-liter diesel.

The power of this power unit makes 184 hp, and unlike the gasoline version, this model is equipped only with a robotic gearbox with six steps of operation.

Special attention should be paid automatic transmission Scouts. The drive to all four wheels of the model is permanent, not switchable. The work of the DSG system in its priority is designed for high gears, however, when activated sport mode control stabilizes. The owners of many cars with a robotic gearbox note in their reviews the presence of tangible jerks when changing from one gear to another. The automatic transmission of the Skoda Octavia A7 Scout models is devoid of this drawback and the moment of transition from one gear to another is almost imperceptible. This fact is noted not only by ordinary motorists, but also by experienced specialists in the auto industry.

Car chassis, steering and brakes

The front suspension of the new Octavia Scout is completely independent and is made in the MacPherson style. This mechanism in the front of the car is distinguished by high-quality constituent elements, and the driving characteristics of the described model compare favorably not only with the previous generation, but also with modern representatives of other automotive brands.

The rear suspension of the car has a multi-link design of working mechanisms and is dependent. It is worth noting the work of the designers and engineers of the Czech automobile plant, who eliminated many of the shortcomings of the work. rear suspension this car. So, for the most part, there are no inert movements of the rear of the car when hitting a road obstacle. This became possible thanks to a slightly modified design of the suspension elements and the use of more rigid materials in the manufacture of parts.

High efficiency design brake system of the described model Scout is calculated based on the technical and operational qualities of the vehicle. Front and rear wheels equipped with disc brakes. Moreover, if rear brakes have a conventional design, then they are ventilated at the front. This feature affects the rapid cooling of the disc surface during emergency braking, preventing deformation of the disc due to excessive heating of its surface from friction with the brake pads.

Dimensions (edit)

The length of the Octavia Scout is 4685 mm, which is quite an impressive indicator for a family car of the all-wheel drive SUV class. The model is 1814 mm wide and 1531 mm high. Wherein ground clearance or the clearance is 171 mm. The curb weight of the Octavia Scout is 1522 kg, and the total permissible weight for normal use should not exceed 2092 kg.

As noted above, the new Skoda Scout is quite roomy, as evidenced by the volume of the luggage compartment with a standard rear row seat position of 588 liters. If necessary, the capacity of the trunk can be increased by first transforming the second row of seats. This operation will increase the capacity of the luggage compartment to an impressive 1,718 liters, and in many photos of the transformed cabin, an almost flat horizontal surface can be noted.

The wheelbase of the described model of the Skoda Octavia family is 2679 mm. The distance between the front wheels is slightly larger (by 32 mm), in contrast to the rear. So, this figure between the front wheels is 1538 mm, and between the rear wheels 1506 mm. Octavia Scout cars are equipped with alloy wheels, the size of which is R17. In this case, the tires must correspond to the parameters of 225 to 50. Fuel tank can hold up to 55 liters of fuel.

Performance Indicators

Despite the high power rating of the Octavia Scout model, as well as its dynamic qualities, fuel consumption is below average for Vehicle such a segment. This was made possible by the successful combination of engine and type robotic box gear shifting. So, when driving within the city, the turbocharged Skoda model The Octavia Scout with a 1.8-liter engine consumes only 8.5 liters. When operating the car in suburban mode, this figure is 5.9 liters, and in the combined cycle, this figure is one liter more - 6.9 liters.

The manufacturer regulated maximum speed car up to the mark of 218 km / h. At the same time, the model can reach a speed of 100 km / h in just 7.8 seconds, which is considered a rather impressive indicator for an all-wheel drive car.

Exterior and interior design

To match its dynamic qualities, the described Octavia Scout has the same expressive appearance judging by the photo of the exterior. Compared to its predecessors, the new Skoda Scout model has become more aggressive with features of body parts that emphasize its speed qualities. The front bumpers are equipped with diffusers and have a more organic appearance compared to the previous model.

The differences in the interior from the standard model of the same generation are minimal when comparing the photos. It is worth noting only the presence of additional “Scout” nameplates and the trim of the interior elements from a different material (inserts that imitate wood have appeared).

As the owner of the most famous Scout in Russia, I want to share my operating experience over the past 3 years. The off-road wagon turned out to be an indispensable vehicle for all occasions and repeatedly rescued from the most unusual situations. As of 2011, the Scout was an uncontested version of a car for 1 million rubles with a station wagon, a ground clearance of more than 180 mm, four-wheel drive and acceleration to a hundred in less than 9 seconds.

Below I present the full history of the operation of the car for 90 thousand kilometers (the Scout has never been to any official dealer for maintenance), I will share the cost of maintenance, improvements and other useful information, which will also be relevant for almost all car owners on the A5 (PQ35) platform. So let's get started.

It all started around here. In those distant times, Skoda cars in some unknown way passed me by, and I could not even imagine that someday I would have a Skoda. I looked closely at the Audi A4 allroad for a long time (on the A6 allroad in 2009-2010 I drove a total of about 20 thousand kilometers from Murmansk to Vladivostok), but its price did not match my income, and even at the Audi dealership I was persistently inclined towards Octavia Scout. I denied it for a long time, until quite by accident I got a diesel Scout for a test (by that time, the quotas for deliveries of diesel versions in Russia were over). Having successfully driven 7 thousand kilometers on it, having traveled to the Urals and back, as well as setting my own record for traveling by car (2300 kilometers in 24 hours). After that, I no longer doubted the right choice car.

So, Skoda Octavia Scout with gasoline engine 1.8TSI second generation EA888, all-wheel drive with 4th generation Haldex clutch and six-speed manual transmission. I fully service the car with my own hands and recommend this to all my friends. From official dealers in Russia, you need to stay away - for your money, not only will they not do the work prescribed by the rules, they will break something along the way. Per . You say - what about the guarantee? Well, for example, look at me, 3 years of car operation in conditions far from ideal - not a single breakdown during the warranty period.

2. Let's go directly to the car. What is good about Skoda is its cheap parts, which, moreover, can be bought literally on every corner. There is a choice from original parts, non-original with different levels of quality (from Chinese, to OEM with an erased VW AG logo at a price twice lower than the original), as well as sales from those who are engaged in modifications to their car. For example, a person makes a chip in the engine, he needs to update the hardware. He puts on the new, and the old remains with him and lies idle. And often these are parts with a mileage of 10-15 thousand km and they can be bought for a quarter of the price of a new one.

The A5 platform has several weaknesses, all of which are VW's desire to save money. After massive cases of breakdowns, they nevertheless refined problematic units and replaced components.

3. In addition, the Scout has its own problem areas... The first is the front brakes with 288 mm discs. Chickens laugh for a one-and-a-half-ton car: they are enough for a mono-drive Octavia, but the Scout is 200 kg heavier (VAG has become generous with 312 mm discs only for diesel Yeti)! The solution is simple, you only need to change the brackets holding the brakes and the discs themselves. To save money, you can take used discs from the brackets from the owners of the Octavia RS, they often go to the track and upgrade the brakes to 345 mm discs, and they do not need a standard kit. Replacement is done on our own in half an hour, regular disks can also be sold. For example, I bought a used set from RS for 5 thousand rubles and sold my 288 mm discs for 2 thousand. The budget for the brake upgrade is 3 thousand rubles. This is the most important improvement for the Scout, it is not safe to ride on the standard brakes!

4. You should also pay attention to the too soft and uninformative clutch pedal. The problem is that the driver does not feel the catching moment, does not completely remove his foot from the clutch pedal and squeezes the gas to the floor. The clutch is not fully closed, the engine reaches the maximum torque zone - the clutch is on fire. The situation is aggravated off-road, when the wheels easily slip into slipping, and the driver does not feel it. Roughly a third of Scout owners successfully burn clutch on less than 30,000 kilometers. Under the guarantee, they reasonably refuse to change it, and people get about 15-20 thousand for spare parts, plus work. The solution is elementary - to train yourself to instantly remove your left foot from the clutch pedal as soon as the car starts moving. As you can see, my grip is alive with a mileage of 90 thousand kilometers, although the car drove a lot outside the asphalt.

5. A visual demonstration of the possibilities for the transportation of goods and the arrangement of a berth. Without moving the front seats, you get a full-fledged flat berth with a length of 185 cm.With a closed lid, you can also transport three-meter items without any problems.

6. Everything you need is stored in the underground covered with a lid. This is an old photo from a post two years ago (), the range of useful travel items has expanded by now.

7. One of the first trips to the test site near Bronnitsy. At that time, I was not so well versed in the specifics of work. all-wheel drive with preventive locking, but already a little bit accustomed to the principles of imitation of interwheel locks using standard brakes.

Here is a short video from that time:

8. Suspension strokes are small, but do not forget that this is originally a car... The Scout has a package for bad roads (PPD), which is completely identical to what was put on the usual Kaluga Octavia assembly. Its purpose is to raise the car using longer springs (the Scout's clearance is even higher due to the tire profile increased by 5%).

9. The problem arises due to the fact that the shock absorbers remained standard and they have limited rebound travel. When the trunk is empty, they knock on speed bumps. You have to come to terms with this. While the car was new with the rigidity of the body, everything was perfect. When hanging diagonally, it was possible to close and close all the doors, and the gaps between them and the bodies did not change. For 3 years, the rigidity of the body has dropped and now, when passing irregularities with diagonal hanging, you can hear how the seals on the doorways creak.

10. During the first year of operation, nothing was done with the car except for routine maintenance. The scout runs on 92 or 95 gasoline (according to the manufacturer's specification - http://victorborisov.ru/professor/ea888/ssp436.pdf). VAG on all cars for Russia glues a sticker 98 (95), even if it is an eight-valve atmospheric engine volume of 1.6 liters, do not believe what is pasted on the fuel filler flap, see the official documents of the manufacturer.

11. There is no difference in dynamics and consumption between 92 and 95 gasoline. City consumption less than 10 liters, 7.5-8 on the highway. This is summer data. The air conditioner practically does not affect the consumption, and in the winter season the consumption increases by 1.5-2 liters. The engine is regularly cranked out before the cut-off, but in general it is operated in a calm rhythm. Most of the run on the track.

12. For 3 years of operation and 90 thousand kilometers I spent 230 thousand rubles on gasoline.

13. Once again I will note the adequate cost of spare parts. Departure into the forest through an overgrown clearing ended with a torn off ABS sensor. The price of the issue is 700 rubles for a new original sensor.

14. The officially declared ground clearance is 180 mm, in fact it is at least 200. The lowest point is the rear suspension arms, but they affect the cross-country ability only when driving reverse and only because the engineers made the wrong design of the mudguards. They are torn off the screws, they bend and interfere with driving. The entire bottom is covered with plastic anthers, a conditionally vulnerable spot is the gas tank, but once in winter I drove it over the fittings sticking out of the ground and it was left undamaged. Thick in front plastic protection engine (she goes to standard equipment but cunning dealers managed to sell it separately for an additional fee, a similar story with salon rugs - they are also in the Scout database). You should not be afraid for the engine. below is the strongest aluminum subframe that absorbs all the impacts.

15. Pull a three-ton Vogue firmly glued to the bottom in a stream, while the road goes up? Elementary. Here is the merit of the dynamic sling, with which, as practice has shown, even 3-4 people are enough to manually pull out the stuck car. The disadvantage in such situations for the Scout is the manual transmission and the aforementioned likelihood of burning the clutch. That is, moving uphill under load is not an option.

16. After a year and a half of operation on the front suspension, the rear silent blocks of the front levers were replaced due to another Kroilov VAG. They are punched through, rip easily, and generally provide poor steering feedback. The price of the issue of the zapresovannyh 1500 rubles a piece, separately gum can be taken for 400-500 rubles. Detail goes to Audi S3. In general, any improvements begin and end with the installation of a bolt-on of factory parts from a soplatform Audi (in particular A3). On a run of 60 thousand kilometers, I changed the oil in the Haldex clutch. In fact, the oil was practically clean, it was more important to change the filter. The story with him is as follows - VAG believes that it is not necessary to change it and it is enough to change the oil, but we both know that it is pointless to change the oil if the filter is tightly clogged with wear products of the clutch discs. If you do not change the filter, then by the time you run 80-100 thousand km, the electric pump will simply burn out, which creates pressure in the clutch.

17. To date, only the car's suspension has been replaced. rear springs since they sagged due to the transportation of goods for the construction of a country house. For two springs, I paid 1,500 rubles (I found it from a person who mistakenly bought them for a mono-drive Octavia and of course they did not suit him because they were excessively stiff). One of the biggest "breakdowns" is the replacement of both rear wheel bearings, which buzzed exactly 2 years after purchase. The reason is simple - wheel disks on the Scout, they are extremely effective at pulling in dirt, it dries up and we have a strong imbalance of the wheels. The regular repetition of this story led to the fact that both wheel bearings crumbled (by the way, due to unification on four-wheel drive vehicles they are completely identical to the front ones). The cost of one wheel bearing is 2600 rubles.

18. I change the oil every 10 thousand kilometers, using "obsolete" engine oil with a 502 tolerance. The most curious thing is that the engine has no oil consumption! The calculation is simple, average resource engine oil with 502 tolerance - 250 hours. My average speed is 45-50 km / h, so I confidently fit into the oil resource when changing every 10 thousand kilometers. In general, it is more correct to always count the oil change interval not by mileage, but by engine hours. Especially if you regularly get stuck in traffic jams and your average speed rarely exceeds 20 km / h (this is the standard average speed in Moscow). With butter was interesting story last fall, when it froze after the first and only gas station in its life at Gazpromneft gas stations. You can read more about this here -

19. In fact, nothing critical has happened. I did not bother replacing the injection pump, in the fall-winter I warm up the engine for 2-3 minutes and no problems. In summer and spring, this problem does not exist in principle.

20. By the end of 2012, a solution was found to completely disable the stabilization system. By default, only traction control ASR and it was problematic to train normally in sliding on frozen lakes (in conjunction with the fact that the electronics stubbornly cut off the gas supply until the steering wheel was put straight). The solution was found by the American owners of the VW Golf R platform. they were supplied with cars with a non-disconnectable system, in contrast to European cars where it was possible from the factory. They compared the encoding of electronic units and found the bits responsible for this option. The solution has been successfully applied to all vehicles of the A5 platform. The 1.8TSI engine has a chronic disease - "fogging" of the intake manifold in front of the turbine. The problem lies, as usual, in the savings multiplied by the design features. The bottom line is that when discharging gas, when the turbine has already caught up with excess pressure in the intake manifold, the release of this excess into the atmosphere is not used to relieve pressure (Euro5 and all that), but there is also no separate valve to return it back to the intake. The damper is simply opened on the turbine and it closes on itself. What is the bottom line? Excess air flows back into the intake. And there is a plastic pipe with a welded seam from the crankcase ventilation. And this weld is defective (every second car). As a result, if you actively use engine braking, you will get oil leaks at the junction of the pipes. The funny thing is that the official answer of the VAG is that everything is fine, it should be so. In fact, you need to take the glue and fix the factory defect of the weld.

21. A self-made snow blower is convenient both for clearing the road to the dacha and for building a track for rally-sprints on ice. Attaches to the towing eyelet.

I am piling at full speed on the ice on thorns.

22. Experiments with reduced pressure on low-profile tires. The Scout, in my opinion, has the ideal tire size - 225 / 50R17. They do not have much of a sidewall crushed on the asphalt and they confidently swallow holes and irregularities. For 3 years of operation, I have never ruled regular wheels. On the right - an example of a traditional departure, hell knows where to look at night.

23. As practice has shown, many people underestimate the capabilities of off-road station wagons and crossovers. Almost everything depends on the skills and experience of the driver.

24. Here's a good demo on gas mileage. The volume of the tank is 60 liters. On the right, there are any plastic small things torn off at the bottom during the next pokatushki. The price of each part is 30-40 rubles.

25. By maintenance the picture is as follows. A liter of engine oil is 300 rubles, a total of 5 liters will cost 1,500 rubles. In fact, the filling volume is 4.6 liters. Oil filter 350 rubles and a drain washer 3 rubles. Cabin filter 300 rubles. This is for replacement every 10 thousand kilometers. In total, 10 replacements in 3 years, about 2,000 rubles each. Also, every 30 thousand kilometers a replacement air filter(300 rubles). Oil and filter for the Haldex coupling for 1,300 rubles, for a total of 2,600 rubles. Oh yes, on a run of 75 thousand kilometers I changed the candles (250 rubles apiece), slight twitching began during intensive acceleration. And on the same run I changed the fuel filter for the first time (!), The issue price is 500 rubles. That is, consumables cost a penny, you don't even need to count.

26. This summer I got into an accident for the first time. Tags "didn't even slow down", "came from behind." The woman just left the body repair, gape, and there was a traffic jam ahead. I smoothly stopped and after 5 seconds she drove in. Scout's got a pound of clay off the muffler and the decorative trim was scratched. Swift's time to get back to body repair: bumper, hood, headlight, fender. By the way, the "unpainted" plastic on the bumper is actually painted in matte gray and is easily scratched. But he was created for this, I do not understand people who arrange a tragedy because of a small scratch on the bumper. You bought a car to drive or blow off dust particles? These are probably the same people who wrap the TV remote in a bag.

27. Believe it or not, but on a run of 90 thousand kilometers, I have only 50% wear on the front pads! And the front discs have generally passed more than 135 thousand (remember, these are used discs from the Octavia RS).

28. A clear illustration of how the rims are clogged with mud and ice, which subsequently led to the replacement of the rear wheel bearings.

29. Long tried to remember what else broke down in 3 years. Remembered! Dimension bulbs burned out. Both front, almost all rear and license plate lights. It is not surprising since the lighting unit is configured so that the dimensions are always on and if the rear ones can be tried to be turned off, then the front ones cannot be turned off in any way. Bulbs cost 10 rubles and do not present any problems with replacement.

30. What is wrong with the Scout? Just huge banks. Passengers regularly complain that they get seasick when I try to grab a bunch of turns. In principle, I put up with this, although you can solve this problem by replacing the shock absorbers (back to the package for bad roads).

31. As for the rest, this is an uncontested version of a driving all-wheel drive "barn" for adequate money. If the "shed" is not needed, then the same VAG has alternatives. For example the Seat Altea Freetrack which rides even better and costs the same.

Excellent departure last fall with like-minded club. Great light off-road school practice.

32. I am often asked what I think about the new one, whether I will take it myself. This is a difficult question, undoubtedly the new Scout is better in everything, and I will recommend him to all my friends and acquaintances, because all the same, the last generation has been discontinued. But if we talk about me, I'm not sure that 3 years is a period to change a car. In addition, there are plans to switch to a more versatile and practical body type (what exactly - you can try to guess).

Surely forgot something, so feel free to ask questions.
