Skoda is one of the few brands that offers an all-wheel drive system for half of its models, excluding the very compact ones. Of course, the Czechs inherited such enthusiasm from the parent concern Volkswagen, as well as all the technical "stuffing".

The basis for all Skoda all-wheel drive transmissions is the Haldex clutch, introduced in the fifth generation. In general, the Driving Experience event was devoted not so much to the presentation of cars, each of which we had already experienced in a mono-drive version, but to the updated 4x4 system.

Updated, because there is nothing fundamentally new in Haldex 5. This is the result of an upgrade of the previous generation system aimed at reducing weight and increasing operating speed. If we omit all the technical details, we can say that the system has become a little less hydraulics and a little more electrical.

As before, four-wheel drive for Skoda - without center differential however, the clutch is constantly running with a slight preload, always transferring a small percentage of torque to the rear axle. This allows the Skodovites to call their all-wheel drive models Full Time - permanent all-wheel drive.

The main advantage of the system based on the Haldex clutch is not only in the speed of torque redistribution along the axles, but also in the fact that wheel slip of the leading front axle is not the main argument for connecting the rear ones.

Electronics reads information from a huge number of sensors, from the level of pressing the gas pedal and ending with lateral and longitudinal acceleration. At each moment of time, it is decided whether it is necessary and in what quantity to use four-wheel drive, for example, in order to turn the car in a sharp bend, even if there is dry asphalt under the wheels.

Fully electronically controlled and cross-axle torque distribution, both on the front and rear axles. Of course, there are no locks here, they are imitated by the ESP system, braking each specific wheel if necessary.

The most interesting thing is that this whole complex makes Skoda cars the ride is not so much more passable as it is safer, which was the first thing the organizers of the event tried to show. So, all-wheel drive Octavias and Superb's against their front-wheel drive "brothers".

At the water-flooded landfill, it was necessary to pass three tests in turn, changing every five minutes from a front-wheel drive car to an all-wheel drive one.

The first exercise is entering a gentle turn with a coating with a minimum coefficient of friction. In fact, an imitation of one of the most common causes of accidents on a winter track.

Everything is pretty predictable here. With a quick but smooth cornering, the front-wheel-drive Octavia immediately "floats" out of the corner with its front end. The instantaneous throttle release under the steering correction is rather abruptly suppressed by the intervention of the ESP system, which, by braking the corresponding wheels, cuts off the fuel supply until the car is completely "straightened out".

A more provocative drive under a sharp opening of the throttle in a bend with a turn of the steering wheel at the last moment is immediately reflected by the skid of the stern, which is reflexively extinguished by the counter-fall of the steering wheel under the addition of hectares ... but no, the same stabilization system, this time knocking out the brakes, chokes the engine, preventing the car from being pulled out by yourself. As a result, the same steering correction for smooth deceleration and only then return to the set course.

The all-wheel drive Octavia Combi is really more stable. Behavior on a slippery arc dispenses with sudden movements from the side of both the car and the driver. You can even gently "immerse", controlling the speed limit by the chirp of the ESP - the system intervenes here more correctly, point-wise knocking the slipping wheels. And even if it went over with speed, the all-wheel drive Octavia slides outward more slowly and with the whole "body", allowing the driver to have time to choose ... no, there is no choice: the non-disconnectable "collar" of safety in the critical development of demolition again takes control of everything.

The second and third exercises were similar. It was proposed to pass the "snake" first along the horizontal, then along the slippery surface to the ascent. In both cases, everything is abundantly watered with water.

The long and massive Superb, even with front-wheel drive, is reluctant to provoke. An attempt to "blab" the car on wet asphalt occurs as in slow motion - they smoothly begin to slide rear wheels, for which ESP immediately grabs. But the drive on a very slippery slope with the simultaneous detour of obstacles was given to the car hard, and to the driver - nervously.

To the stabilization system chirping throughout the entire length with "suffocating" dips in reactions to the accelerator, sharp "blows" on the brakes of the driving wheels were added traction control system... As a result, the arrival up the mountain represented a jerky jumping with the danger of rolling back to the foot.

3 / 3

Whether the Skoda Superb Combi 4x4. Yes, the traction control also works roughly here, but due to the fact that the front wheels pull up the hill, and the rear wheels immediately push, the car moves with minimal ESP intervention, that is, it is smoother, smoother and ... noticeably faster. In general, the advantage is clear and obvious.

For Skoda yeti the organizers of the test prepared more serious off-road ones. Although, I must say, without our native mud mess this is somehow not off-road - so, geometric obstacles.

But first, bench tests of the Haldex 5 coupling on a roller trestle. This is where you can clearly see how the distribution of torque occurs and the speed with which the system detects a "slipping" wheel. Of course, the positive result was predictable, otherwise they would not have been driven out, but not to say that the Yeti copes with this exercise once or twice.

Already in natural conditions, the Yeti easily crawled along the sloping mountains, without causing any problems to the driver. And overcoming the steepest descent, when the driver and front passenger literally hang on the seat belts, became the main attraction at all - the operation of the electronic descent system from the mountain was checked. In fact, the crossover, playing with the brakes, drives off itself at the lowest possible speed - the driver only needs to decide to release all the pedals.

The most exciting task was overcoming the "snake" inside the ravine. Yeti, of course, pleased with both geometric cross-country ability, and a rather successful struggle with diagonal hanging, however, when falling onto its side, it was rather frightening. The fact is that the maximum lateral tilt angle for a crossover is 45 degrees, after which there is a rollover, and of course there is no inclinometer in the car. So when the car fell from one side to another in free fall, the heart sank a little - it suddenly took more than 45 degrees.

The Yeti most uncertainly overcame the sandy climbs, which again forced him to speak with an unkind word about the work of ESP. As soon as you start wagging the steering wheel on a shaky ascent with slipping wheels, choosing the optimal ascent trajectory, the electronics instantly perceives this as a loss of stability and immediately chokes the engine even when the Off-road system is on.

Skoda Octavia is a car that has become famous for its reliability, unpretentiousness and high comfort of movement. In the history of the model, which has 20 years, three generations of cars have come out, each of which is better and more technologically advanced than the previous one. Today we will tell you about the rarest and most exotic Skoda Octavia 4 × 4 "combi" and all its features.

General concept

The Skoda Octavia A7 station wagon is a real old-timer lineup stamps. The first versions of the all-wheel drive model appeared back in 1999, a year before the first restyling. The trunk volume of the station wagon with the rear seats folded down reaches 1,500 liters, and the interior of the "combi" A7 is more comfortable for family trips.

For this car, a line of atmospheric and turbocharged engines is provided, which includes several diesels. A 1.6 diesel is provided for older versions, while a 2-liter turbocharged diesel produces 140 Horse power and a maximum torque of 320 Newton meters, which gives the Skoda Octavia station wagon enviable traction.

The Skoda Octavia station wagon for the first time with all-wheel drive appeared in 2000 and has the designation Octavia Combi 4 × 4. Later, several versions with a diesel engine appeared. Unlike the front wheel drive version, Skoda version The Octavia 4 × 4 "combi" has several key features that both externally and internally distinguish the station wagon. off-road.

First of all, the exterior of the car has a different look. Here you can note the tuning package, which is aimed at protecting the off-road vehicle from impacts and damage when going off-road.

The thresholds are protected in the form of reinforced plastic overlays. With such protection, it will be possible to avoid not only scratches, but also significant dents, which can often be found in modern crossovers.

Arches received similar protection. This type of tuning, according to the manufacturer, will allow the all-wheel drive station wagon to avoid significant damage and corrosion.

Of course, the advent of all-wheel drive is accompanied by some changes to the suspension. She received reinforced elements, which for the regular version of the station wagon are supplied with the "Package for bad roads". Thanks to constructive nuances new system, ground clearance managed to increase by 3 centimeters even on diesel versions.

Octavia Combi 4 × 4 is recognizable by some more external designations. So, on the trunk lid "combi" you can see the characteristic Scout lettering. Once in the cabin, you will be able to find the inscription "4motion", which indicates the presence of an intelligent all-wheel drive system on both gasoline versions and station wagons with a diesel engine.

Sports modifications

The most famous version of Skoda with all-wheel drive is a car built on the basis of the A7 and does not have the ability to install a diesel engine. However, there are several more all-wheel drive versions that are built on the A7 platform. Their example is the sports versions of the RS and the Skoda Octavia Scout Revo 4x4.

The PC version is based on the liftback, which has been produced since 2013. RS has several unique features that make it instantly stand out from the entire lineup.

Moreover, changes relative to ordinary A can be found both in terms of design and technical part.

Concerning appearance, then the color scheme of the model is somewhat different. The PC version can be found both in bright blue and snow-white shades. On the radiator grille, which has a slightly different shape, there is a corresponding inscription. In addition, it can sometimes be found on the side of the body and doors in the form of stickers and markings. The rear of the Octavia RS 4 × 4 is equipped with a chrome trim, which also defines the sporty version.

The interior of the Octavia RS 4 × 4 also has several key features. So, wheel has a sporty design and the front seats have stiffer lateral support. The RS suspension has been reinforced for increased durability and reliability.

Diesel is not available for the PC version. Instead, a two-liter gasoline unit with a capacity of 220 horsepower was developed for the Skoda Octavia. Such a motor is not available for any other modification of the A7. The RS engine has increased fuel consumption, which is predominantly 98 octane. In return, the buyer gets a car with improved dynamic characteristics and overclocking indicators.

The gearbox offered for the Octavia RS 4 × 4 is also specially designed. This version is the only one for PC modification. The unit has a robotic type and has a two-clutch system. This solution contributes to more reliable integration of the engine with the gearbox, while providing faster gear changes.

Another version that has a sporty bias is the Skoda Octavia Scout Revo 4x4. This version is extremely rare, and for the most part it is used in international sports competitions.

Skoda Octavia Scout Revo 4x4 looks like the Skoda Octavia station wagon built on the A7 platform. Technical stuffing that is installed on this car, is similar to that found on the PC version, and diesel is not available here either. The fifth generation all-wheel drive system works in automatic mode and is installed on the Skoda Octavia Scout Revo 4x4 in serial order.

Principle of operation

At the moment, everything sports modifications Skoda Octavia installs a fifth-generation all-wheel drive system, conventionally named by the manufacturer 4motion. It is based on the Haldex clutch, which takes over the distribution of torque between the front and rear axles.

The intelligence of the clutch operates to deliver a small percentage of torque to the rear axle at all times, giving the manufacturer the right to call such a system a constant mode of action.

With sharp accelerations, the torque is distributed equally between the axles, thereby eliminating slipping on wet asphalt and loss of power. Moreover, the clutch is fully integrated with the stability control systems and responds instantly to the slightest speed changes.

The fifth generation of the clutch has no significant design differences from its predecessor. All the efforts of the designers in its design were put on to lighten the mass of the parts and to minimize the amount of hydraulics.

The principle of operation of the system is based on the fact that at a certain moment the pump begins to supply oil under high pressure to the channels. Thanks to this, the driving and driven parts of the mechanism fit tightly to each other, and the rear spine is connected in a certain proportion. In this regard, the main disadvantage of such a system arises. Pump high pressure at untimely replacement oil burns out, and high pressure channels can leak and lose their tightness.

Summing up

Skoda Octavia in versions with all-wheel drive are technologically advanced and powerful cars. However, the 4motion system is imperfect and not without its drawbacks. However, practice shows that the systems of the latest generations do not have the same shortcomings as their predecessors, and with each version they work better and more stable.

The update, or restyling, gave Octavia a new bumper and headlights, electronic systems and, perhaps most importantly, all-wheel drive (previously offered only for the station wagon). How useful it is and how it works - we'll figure it out in the course of ours.

I waited and prepared for this moment. It had to happen sooner or later - and it did. I seem to be testing a car that ... has no competitors ?! However, let's go in order.

The first point of the 7D program is the selection of competitors that are as close as possible in price and technology for the tested machine, in order to put pros and cons in a virtual comparison - when the car, respectively, performs better or worse than its classmates. And now, right off the bat: can you name the cars with which an all-wheel drive Czech liftback with 180 horses and a price of 1.6 million will compete ?! It seems there are none.

Take your time. First, let's figure out the price. The base for the all-wheel drive Octavia in the Style configuration is 1,668,000 rubles. Going through the long list of packages and options and ticking the boxes far from everywhere (but not greedy either), I got to the amount of 2.1 million and stopped to take a breath. LEDs-sensors-big wheels-electronic assistants ... All I need!

And with such a price, you can already look for rivals. Since Skoda makes an application in the class of powerful and four-wheel drive, let's ask the price of the cars of those manufacturers who have been here for a long time. And let them be cars, which are usually called "premium": the main thing is technology and money, and the image will follow.

When we were discussing this choice of opponents on the air, we met with the support of the listeners. This means - meet and you eminent, fast and four-wheel drive competitors, one smaller, the other more. Both in the body of a sedan, which is nevertheless closer to the Czech liftback than a kurgozny hatch. The table shows the base prices, and how they can be increased - for Skoda, BMW, and Audi - I gave an example above. Let's see how the Czechs play this "hockey"!

There are more changes in the appearance of the Octavia, but the headlights and bumper are the most noticeable and, I would say, outstanding (the length of the car, by the way, has increased by 11 mm). As for the separated four headlights ... I heard the opinions of colleagues that "in the photo it really does not look very good, but in real life the car is better." So: no better.

I understand that after a while, as always happens with restyled cars, I will get used to it and will consider my old face obsolete. So it was with the previous generation of "Octavia". But for now - thank you, I cannot praise the appearance. This is my subjective assessment, I will not argue with a different opinion.

But Skoda has a remarkable property, which is realized thanks to its close relationship with Volkswagen, Audi and other brands of the concern. The easiest way to describe it is this: you sit in the Octavia, and you feel in the Golf or even A3. Materials, fit quality, ergonomics are at the highest level.

The only thing I will reproach for is that on the new very large (9-inch) multimedia screen, the control technology without buttons is implemented. That is, they are drawn but not clicked. I still consider this decision, generally accepted for smartphones, tablets and other household appliances, as applied to a car. For me, nothing has been invented better than the old "Volkswagen" classic buttons around the screen. The driver needs reliability and clear feedback, which I have always envied when trying to unlock the screen of my smartphone in cold weather (the most effective way is with my nose, in my opinion. If you know a better way, please tell me).

Skoda would not be Skoda without offering simply clever solutions. The umbrella under the passenger seat is a trifle, we've seen it before. Better answer, how do you open a bottle of water while driving? Are you pinching with your knees too? And in the new Octavia, the niche for the bottle is made in such a way that it will keep the container from rotating: unscrew the tight cork with one hand. Class!

The result of the first round, when we examined and looked around in the car, will not be a plus or a minus. Somewhere in the details yielding, and somewhere winning, "Skoda" as a whole is quite consistent with the level of competitors, and this is a success.

When I started driving the second generation Octavia ten years ago, I noticed that I was taking the longer road home; moreover, I overstep the last turn, so that later on, I should be properly driven on a wide avenue to the nearest turn. I liked it so much that the car sticks to the road, the way it listens - I just didn't want to stop. And every morning, leaving the entrance, I was glad that there was a trip in such a car. Not a test drive of the novelty, but the usual daily driving cheer up! Then there were other cars that could do the same, but I remember the first one best.

The current third "Octavia" has retained this remarkable feature, and driving in the sudden disgusting weather from Gelendzhik to Dzhubga, I was glad even for trucks that were collecting long tails of cars: we will go for a couple of minutes longer. 180 forces and four-wheel drive made it possible to use any opportunities for overtaking, despite the stormy winds and heavy rain. Directly along the stream of water, under which the asphalt has disappeared, we boldly take acceleration and confidently outrun the slow-moving ones!

I would like to note the precise and very intelligent operation of the adaptive cruise control and the very sensitive "line-assist" - the steering wheel seemed to cling even to the half-erased markings and confidently corrected the trajectory of the car. Recently it was exotic, then the destiny of the premium class, and now it is taken for granted in the most mass segment!

Skoda has an excellent navigation system with many advantages and one, but often decisive disadvantage. Moreover, the disadvantage does not apply to the Czech brand, but to any car with standard system navigation: old maps. For example, a new interchange at the intersection of the M-4 and A-147 highways (turn to Dzhubga and Sochi) has been operating for a year now, and you still won't learn it, unfortunate navigators!

The result of the second round is also zero, and this is actually an indicator of the efforts of the Czechs, who are on an equal footing with very serious rivals.

If I say that in urban conditions I discovered the clear advantages of the powerful four-wheel drive Octavia, I would be wrong. Just nice car, with all the necessary auxiliary electronics, decent dynamics and ample maneuverability.

The main thing is that I finally managed to find a clearly and on business parking assistant! A year ago at the "Scout" I was glad how simple and accurate it works, but here I managed to simulate a really difficult and cramped race, which the car coped with independently and quickly. I give up: useful parking assistants exist. An example is Skoda-Octavia.

This is not a property of the cars of this segment, it is the preferences of the audience. "Disco" fully responds to them. And this means that even though personally to me he is in the city and does not seem to be a good choice, there are no downsides: the car is on the level!

Although the repairs on the M-4 "Don" sometimes forced us to jump along the side of the road, and then, for the sake of a beautiful shot, we turned onto a rocky lane that steeply went into the mountains, let's make a reservation right away: the cars participating and mentioned in this test were made all-wheel drive for the sake of controllability. Somewhat better flotation is a side effect.

Yes, "Octavia", having connected the rear wheels with a clutch, will overcome the icy rise, will not save in the winter in the mountains, wet grass is also nothing to it, and the track with liquid mud will not frighten. Only it should be very shallow. The ground clearance of 153 mm is too little to seriously argue "will pass - will not pass". By the way, prepare another 8,900 rubles for such disputes: branded engine protection will be very useful!

The opponents are no better in this respect, so there is parity in this round as well. And if you really need better cross-country ability than conventional passenger car- take a closer look at the "Scout" or "Yeti". And "Kodiak" is just around the corner.

Octavia is longer than competitors, has a close wheelbase, but its main advantage is the body, which is a cross between a sedan and a hatchback. Huge backdoor and an incredibly capacious 568-liter trunk, which can be almost tripled by folding the backrests rear seats provide an edge over rival classic sedans. All kinds of nets, hooks and clamps help organize this space in the most convenient and practical way.

Not only for luggage, there is also quite enough space for people here: the four of them cannot have any complaints, the five of them will be a little closer and lose the armrest. There are two USB ports in the back (where can we go without them today!), A 230 V socket, a shutter ...

A practical liftback celebrates a victory over a prestigious sedan: I put the first plus on Octavia!

And for future buyers I will note: if you choose beautiful 17-inch wheels (plus 15 thousand rubles), then ask for a stowaway as a spare wheel, that is, a narrow wheel, because the previous 16-inch, even though full-size, will also be in the status of a temporary one before tire fitting. Why then waste space on it?

And only in the most extreme case - 92, get to the next gas station. Fuel with an octane rating of 98, also indicated in the diet, seems to me to be a reassurance. Moreover, it is not found at every gas station and is not always of the proper quality.

In terms of consumption, Skoda does not stand out either for the better or for the worse: during my test drive along the seaside section of the M-4 with serpentines and ascents, it turned out about 8 liters per hundred. Coincides with the middle level.

All-wheel drive "Octavias" are offered in two bodies, in two trim levels, and in total in the range of restyled cars - three engines, three boxes, two bodies, four levels of performance, and I still do not take into account the Scout version. The range is more than wide.

The price of 1.6 million is very, very much for Skoda. But even being screwed up with options up to 2 million and above is a little against the background of competitors. And here comes the time of the main question: which is more important, name or money? Real qualities or prestige?

I answer it with one more plus, because objectively Skoda's offer looks very interesting on the market. You just need to know what to compare it with. I know.

Skoda Octavia 4 × 4 - honorably withstood the comparison with competitors that formally belong to the prestigious segment. The final score is evidence of this - not a single minus and two pluses. The result is somewhat unexpected, but therefore even more valuable.

The all-wheel drive Skoda Octavia Combi 4x4 is also available for order in Russia. The car has new body A7, advanced transmission and engine.

To the large trunk, the Skoda Octavia Combi station wagon also received four-wheel drive, an ideal car for summer trips. It is worth pointing out right away that in Europe the all-wheel drive version of the Skoda Octavia Combi 4x4 has diesel engine, in Russia, the car is offered with a gasoline turbo engine with a working volume of 1.8 liters with a capacity of 180 hp. As a gearbox, there is a DSG robotic automatic machine with 6 steps.

Externally, the front-wheel drive version of the station wagon and the 4x4 modification are not much different. If only with a 4x4 badge on the trunk lid of the Octavia Combi 4x4, as in this photo.

The all-wheel drive transmission itself is borrowed from the Skoda Yeti crossover. About which we wrote a great article. The main unit of the transmission is the advanced Haldex 5 clutch. The operation of this all-wheel drive transmission differs in some peculiarities. On normal roads, more than 90% of the torque is transferred to the front wheels. But it's worth going to slippery road or outright dirt, then thanks to the Haldex clutch, the same 90% of the torque can almost instantly be transmitted to the rear wheels of the Skoda Octavia Combi 4x4 and vice versa.

Characteristics of the new Skoda Octavia Combi 4x4

As for the size and dimensions. The Skoda Octavia Combi 4x4 is not much different from the usual Skoda station wagon. But there are also some peculiarities. So the ground clearance is slightly less, due to the fact that the mass of the car is increased. For example, the Octavia Combi station wagon with a 1.8 TSI turbo engine weighs 1352 kg in running order, and with the same engine, but in an all-wheel drive version, it is 100 kg more. Accordingly, the fuel consumption is higher, and the dynamics are slightly worse. The fuel consumption of the Combi 4x4 in mixed mode is 6.7 liters of gasoline, and in the front-wheel drive version is 6 liters. By the way, the volume of the gas tank in the all-wheel drive version of the 4x4 station wagon is 55 liters, while the usual Octavia Combi has exactly 50 liters. Rear suspension in the 4x4 version it was completely redesigned, since it was necessary to place additional components and transmission units there.

Options and prices Skoda Octavia Combi 4x4

In Russia, the all-wheel drive Combi is offered only with a 1.8 TSI engine with a capacity of 180 hp. Plus 6-speed DSG box... The price of the most affordable version of the Skoda Octavia Combi 4x4 starts at 1,061,000 rubles in the average Ambition configuration. In the top-end version of Elegance, the car costs 1,134,000 rubles. Actually, the car does not have many competitors in this class, classmates do not offer anything of the kind. Neither the Ford Focus nor the Chevrolet Cruze with the Opel Astra have all-wheel drive station wagons on Russian market... Actually, in the absence of competition, the price of the Skoda Octavia Combi 4x4 is more than a million rubles. Only the all-wheel drive station wagons of Subaru, which also have a rather high price, can compete with a car from the Czech Republic.

It is unlikely that the demand for an all-wheel drive station wagon in our country will be great, due to the fact that for the same money you can take a crossover, the same Yeti, for example. Therefore, the manufacturer did not offer a large number of variations with several engines.

Video Skoda Octavia Combi 4x4

A small video review of the all-wheel drive Skoda Octavia Combi 4x4.

It is also worth mentioning the off-road version of the Octavia Combi 4x4, which is called the Skoda Octavia Scout. This modification except front wheel drive and increased ground clearance has a lot of external differences. Such as door sills and wheel arches, more protected bumpers. As the representatives of Skoda in Russia promise, the Skoda Octavia Scout will appear in the near future.

The path of the third-generation Czech all-terrain station wagon to Russia turned out to be quite long ... First there was the spring world premiere of 2014 in Geneva, later the off-road station wagon looked at Moskovsky international motor show and only in October, at last, was the start of official sales in our country.

The price of the Octavia Scout 2015 model year in Russia turned out to be slightly higher than the expected one, but not so much as to scare off potential buyers, since the advantages of this machine were quite consistent with the money requested for them.

By the third decade of December 2016, a restyled "off-road vehicle" arrived, which completed the renovation program for the entire Octavia family, stretching over three stages.

The car has undergone almost the same metamorphosis as the standard model - it has changed "in the face" due to the "four-eyed" optics, received new versions (albeit "not for Russia") and "equipped" with previously inaccessible equipment.

The second incarnation of the "Czech Scout" is larger than its predecessor and much more aggressive in terms of design. The exterior is based on the contours of the base third-generation station wagon, but a stylish off-road plastic body kit with reinforced bumpers, special design wheel rims, increased ground clearance and “Scout” nameplates make it easy to distinguish the all-wheel drive station wagon from the city version.

The body of the new item consists of almost 70% of high-strength steel and a certain proportion of ultra-high-strength steel, which made it possible to reduce the weight of the car relative to its predecessor by an average of 27-30 kg. A significant step forward was also noted in terms of aerodynamics, and this is a direct contribution to reducing fuel consumption and improving acoustic comfort in the cabin.

As for the dimensions, the length of the "second" Octavia Scout is 4685 mm, the wheelbase is 2679 mm, the width of the body does not exceed 1814 mm, and the height rests against the mark of 1531 mm. The ground clearance (ground clearance) of the "all-terrain" station wagon is 171 mm.

The interior of this modification is almost identical, in terms of design, to the interior of the regular version of the 3rd generation Octavia, but more expensive materials are used in its decoration in several combinations. In addition, numerous “Scout” inscriptions are distributed throughout the interior, harmoniously fitting into it and reminiscent of the “off-road” character of the car, and the pedals are equipped with stylish metal pads with rubber anti-slip inserts.

The interior of the car is very ergonomic, spacious, and on both rows of seats, and is supplemented roomy trunk with a convertible double floor, a set of fasteners, a double-sided mat and a convenient loading height.

The minimum trunk volume is 588 liters (610 liters without a spare wheel), but with the second row of seats folded down, it increases to 1718 liters (1740 liters without a spare wheel). Also note that with the backrest of the front passenger seat it becomes possible to transport lengths of almost 3 meters.

Specifications. Russian owners of an off-road wagon will have to be content with only one option. power plant... For this role, the Czech manufacturer chose a 4-cylinder in-line gasoline unit with a displacement of 1.8 liters (1798 cm³). The engine fully complies with the Euro-6 environmental standard, and the list of its equipment includes a 16-valve timing, direct fuel injection, a variable valve timing system, a Start / Stop system and turbocharging, which together allows to develop 180 "horses" of maximum power at 5100 - 6000 rpm. As for the torque, at the peak, reached at 1350 - 4500 rpm, it rests on the 280 Nm mark, making it possible to accelerate the station wagon from 0 to 100 km / h in an acceptable 7.8 seconds, and this without activating the Sport mode ". Well, the upper speed threshold is marked at 216 km / h.

The Czechs also did not provide a choice of gearboxes - the only engine is paired with the only 6-speed "robot" DSG with two clutches, which allows achieving a very reasonable fuel consumption of the AI-95 brand at the level of 6.9 liters in the combined operation cycle. Of the minuses of the gearbox, we note the "classic" desire to quickly switch to top gear, which often leads to delayed switching during active operation of the accelerator, so that for aggressive driving it is better to use the "Sport" mode, in which these "flaws" are not so noticeable.

The "second station wagon Octavia Scout" was built on the basis of a slightly modernized VW MQB platform. The front end is supported by standard MacPherson struts independent suspension, while the rear is supported by an independent multi-link structure. Unlike the European version, the Russian version is equipped with more energy-intensive shock absorbers and a special package "for bad roads", which includes, among other things, engine crankcase protection.
The wheels of the front axle of the car have ventilated disc brakes, the rear wheels are assigned to simple disc brakes. The rack and pinion steering system demonstrates an electromechanical amplifier as an assistant. We also note that already in the base, the five-door is equipped with ABS + EBD, BAS, ESP systems and uphill assistance technology.

As stated at the outset, the Octavia Scout is a 5th generation Haldex all-wheel drive wagon with EDL. The system is capable of transmitting up to 90% of traction to the rear axle, as well as redistributing the moment between the wheels of the rear axle (up to 85% per one wheel), which guarantees good cross-country ability on light off-road conditions and excellent stability on wet or icy asphalt roads. In this regard, the “Scout” modification is as close as possible to crossovers, which will surely “spoil the nerves” in our market.
