The off-road component of the Swedish model is not as strong as that of its closest competitors - MINI Countryman and Subaru XV. Yes, in the list of options for the Volvo V40 Cross country there are all-wheel drive transmission, downhill assist, solid-diameter wheels and a protective body kit. But the ground clearance is only 145 mm, and the body overhangs are too big by the standards of crossovers (908 and 816 mm). However, the driver's potential is obvious: the chassis is tuned with an eye to asphalt, the Drive-E family motors are equally productive and economical, and in terms of the number of electronic assistants and proprietary security systems, the car even claims to be the leader in the segment. As for the exterior, it is designed in a win-win Scandinavian style: minimalism, bright design moves and expensive finishing materials.

SMALL YACHT

High sill line, coupe-shaped roof, wheel arch muscles, roof rails and exhaust pipes spaced along the edges of the bumper ...
The V40 Cross Country is like a hot hatchback - the designers have shown forward-thinking, targeting a younger audience. And the recent restyling added solidity to the Swede: the 2017 model year cars sport a mesh radiator grille, a larger Volvo logo and new headlights "Thor's Hammer" - like the cars of the 90 series.

The interior design is in the style of the S60 and XC60. The electronic instrument cluster offers great graphics and advanced functionality. And if desired, the driver can easily customize the "tidy" for himself. You can't find fault with the quality of finishing materials. This is, without exaggeration, a premium level and sophisticated solutions. You can choose as restrained, "Scandinavian" and brighter colors.

The interior of the V40 Cross Country is cozy, but not without ergonomic miscalculations. The main complaint is the tightness, and in both rows. The branded "floating" center console conceals the space around the knees of the front riders. At the back, tall passengers will not only squeeze the backs of the first row of seats with their knees, but also run the risk of propping up the ceiling with their heads. Meanwhile, it's nice that the rear sofa can be equipped with heating for a surcharge.

The volume of the trunk also does not break records: only 324 liters, and the opening of the fifth door is narrow, and the threshold is high. These are the cons. If we talk about the pros, then the backs rear seats fold in a ratio of 40:60, due to the additional raised floor panel (option), a flat area for luggage is obtained, various devices for attaching bags are provided.

I must say that after the reystaling, the interior of the crossover did not look ultra-modern. The architecture of the center console with a battery of buttons and toggle switches is like a greeting from the past. The five-inch multimedia screen is too small by today's standards. Want a seven-inch display? Order a more expensive multimedia system - with a rear view camera, navigation and better music.

In the arsenal of the Swedish crossover there are assistants informing about road signs and driver fatigue, adaptive cruise control, as well as the City Safety system, which can independently stop the car at speeds up to 50 km / h

Be that as it may, the light touch of retro does not detract from the richness of the electronic filling. At the bottom of the aforementioned console, there are buttons for controlling the rear-view camera, lane control systems, warnings of a dangerous approach and a car park. The Swedish crossover's arsenal includes assistants informing about road signs and driver fatigue, adaptive cruise control operating at speeds up to 200 km / h, and the City Safety system, which can independently stop the car at speeds up to 50 km / h and recognize pedestrians. Finally, the proprietary application for Volvo On Call smartphones, after restyling, supports Apple Watch or Android Wear, as well as devices with an operating Windows system 10.

CHOOSE TO TASTE

There is no mechanical transmission for the Swedish model in our market. The most affordable versions are front-wheel drive. If you want to save money, the buyer can choose a 1.5-liter 152-horsepower gasoline engine in combination with a 6-speed automatic or a 2-liter 120-horsepower diesel coupled with a 6-speed robot. Both options are optimal not only in terms of price, but also due to a moderate appetite. power units: combined fuel consumption is only 5.6 or 3.9 l / 100 km respectively.

But, whatever one may say, the listed modifications are compromise. The Swede is fully revealed with 2-liter gasoline engines(190 and 245 l. From.). The machine with a 190-horsepower unit is offered with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Both versions are very interesting in terms of dynamics. The de facto 5-cylinder engine turns the V40 Cross Country into a sports car that allows you to move very briskly and, as is traditional for the Swedish brand, without any nervousness. The six-speed automatic Aisin does not allow for jerks or delays when switching, and the steering wheel with a distinct reaction force adds confidence when maneuvering. However, everything is learned by comparison. A car with a top-end 2-liter 245-horsepower unit is a complete delight. And lightning-fast reactions to gas, and the ability to spurt from both medium and high speeds. Wherein four-wheel drive vehicle consumes only 8.5 liters per 100 km on the combined cycle. The operation of the 8-speed automatic is also worthy of compliments. Gears shift smoothly, and in case the driver wants maximum drive, there is a sport mode.

The V40 Cross Country suspension is a double edged sword. On the one hand, the short-stroke chassis allows cornering at the highest possible speeds and a sense of connection with the machine. On the waves of asphalt, the car does not sway and is practically indifferent to rutting. To knock him off the trajectory is not an easy task. On the other hand, we are not talking about adapting the suspension to Russian realities. The chassis is frankly stiff. Chassis it works out pits of any caliber in the most detailed way, so if you go on bumpy roads, passengers, especially the second row, are unlikely to enjoy it.

IMAGE - EVERYTHING!

The off-road potential of the "Swede", as already mentioned, is modest. The increase in ground clearance (relative to the related V40 model) was achieved not by recalibrating the chassis, but by installing the wheels bigger size... Geometric cross-country ability and four-wheel drive on the basis of the fifth generation Haldex clutch will allow you to get to the dacha, but it is better not to meddle on rain-washed primers, and even more difficult off-road: a small ground clearance and passenger suspension"Turn on the red light." In other words, the Volvo V40 Cross Country is a solid sports hatchback with a powerful image component. This is to call a spade a spade.

Now about prices and competitors. The introduction of the initial front-wheel drive version with a 1.5-liter 152-horsepower gasoline unit into the lineup allowed keeping the price tag at the level of 1,399,000 rubles. For comparison: Subaru model The XV, which is offered only in all-wheel drive, costs at least 1,599,900 (for the version with a 2-liter 150-horsepower petrol engine and CVT). And for the front-wheel drive MINI Countryman 1.6 AT (122 hp) they ask 1,541,500. As you can see, the price advantage is on the side of the "Swede".

Another argument in favor of the Volvo crossover is the rich basic equipment. Standard complete set The V40 Cross Country 1.5 T3 AT Summum provides seven airbags (including a knee airbag for the driver), cruise control, rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, electric driver's seat, mirrors and side windows, and music High Performance. At the same time, branded security systems, if you buy them in a package, cost quite a reasonable price. A G

Objectively speaking, the Volvo V40 hatchback, which received the promising Cross Country prefix in the name, is not a premiere model. Indeed, even at the Paris Automobile Forum, held in the fall of 2012, the Swedish brand presented it in a similar body design format and with the same name.

The small crossover V40 Cross Country 2016-2017 model year received an updated exterior design, an increased list of equipment and some changes in the design of the interior decoration.

It should be noted that externally, the five-door Cross Country hatchback almost completely repeats the V40 in the "standard" version. Only with hotel touches, the designers individualized the appearance of the novelty, slightly raising the car above the road and decorating the body with a plastic body kit. Another distinctive feature of the crossover will be its 17-inch rims.

Design

The expressive design of the car indicates a very specific audience, which the model is intended for in the first place. We are talking about young car enthusiasts who lead an active lifestyle.

The sloping hood with a pair of double stiffening ribs seems to flow into the volumetric grille. The headlamps have a flowing shape and stylish horizontal LED stripes that divide the headlights in half. Arched roofline and taillights in the form of boomerangs give the appearance of the car sportiness and dynamics. The inflated line of the side glazing of the body organically complements the picture.

The length of the crossover is 4,370 mm, its width is 1,783 mm, the height of the V40 Cross Country does not exceed 1,458 mm. The distance between the front and rear axles of the wheels of the new Volvo was 2 646 mm. The ground clearance of the novelty, although declared as "off-road", in practice was only 144 mm. Obviously, with such a ground clearance, you shouldn't leave asphalt roads.

What's in the salon?

The interior design of the Volvo V40 Cross Country is exactly the same as the "regular" V40 model. Modern design, noble finishing materials and impeccable build quality of the interior indicate the premium level of the car.

In addition to the stylish design, the interior is distinguished by verified ergonomics and a high level of comfort, which are provided to the driver and passengers. Cozy front seats have developed lateral support, an optimal backrest profile and a good size of pillows. The dashboard design is typical of the Swedish brand. Natural leather, polished aluminum and even natural wood were used as finishing materials.

But there are questions with the availability of free space in the second row of seats. Despite the successful and comfortable molding of the sofa, designed for two passengers, people above average height will not be very comfortable here.

Not the strongest point of the presented model is its luggage compartment. The vehicle has a cargo capacity of 335 liters, which can be increased to 1,032 liters by folding down the rear seat backrests. Under the double surface of the trunk floor, there was a place for a "dock" and a set of tools.

Having driven a new crossover from Volvo, you pay attention to the almost perfect noise insulation of the cabin - at high speeds in the cabin you can talk without raising your voice, but understand that the car's engine is running on Idling, will only succeed by glancing at the tachometer.

Specifications

For Russian dealers, the Volvo V40 Cross Country versions are intended, equipped with four engine options. By default, the car is equipped with front-axle drive; for top-end modifications, an all-wheel drive system is available, which is based on the fifth generation Haldex clutch. In this case, if the front wheels slip, the system will automatically engage the rear axle.

The petrol engines of the Volvo V40 crossover include turbocharged units T3, T4, and T5 in their list. The basic version has a volume of 1.5 liters and produces 152 hp. maximum power. The middle version is a 2.0-liter engine with 190 hp, the top-end gasoline engine has the same volume of 2.0 liters and, thanks to the twin turbocharging, is capable of developing up to 245 hp. power.

Even the initial gasoline engine gives the car excellent "throttle response" and a tangible pickup after pressing the gas pedal while driving at medium speeds.

The least powerful engine is the diesel unit, which is equipped with V40 Cross Country D2 modifications. This four-cylinder engine develops no more than 120 hp. and does not differ in incendiary dynamics. But the diesel version of Volvo will delight you with its economy. The declared consumption of D2 per 100 km of combined mileage is only 3.9 liters.

Depending on the engine chosen, a 6- or 8-band automatic transmission is offered in a pair.

Of the others technical features crossover can be noted the presence of an electric power steering, ventilated disc brakes on the front axle, as well as a fully independent suspension.

Outcome

With the numerous advantages of the model, critics call insufficient clearance for a crossover, an overly compact trunk and the inconvenience of the process of getting in and out of the second row of seats as controversial points.

Judging by the price of compact crossover, its potential buyers should be far from poor people, because 1,399,000 rubles for a front-wheel drive V40 CC is the price of a much more practical Mazda CX-5 also for front wheel drive... However, Volvo is already a premium product, and against the background of 2 million for the starting Mercedes GLA price The V40 is quite modest, so here you can safely add a plus sign to this model.

The Volvo V40 hatchback in Russia is sold only in the "off-road" modification of the Cross Country - with a 12 mm higher ground clearance, larger wheels, other bumpers and roof rails. Prices start at 1 million 189 thousand rubles for a front-wheel drive version of the T4 with a two-liter turbo engine (180 hp), a six-speed automatic transmission, seven airbags, climate control, a CD-receiver and a City Safety system. For "fitting" we took a hatchback in the T5 modification with a forced up to 213 hp. engine and four-wheel drive. V basic configuration such a five-door is 1 million 279 thousand rubles, but we have - full set options: leather interior, electric front seats, glass roof, navigator, rear view camera, bi-xenon headlights and much more, which made the car almost doubled in price - 2 million 219 thousand rubles.

The Volvo V40 is the most stylish of all Volvo models. A cross between a station wagon and a hatchback, it has a dynamic silhouette not typical of the Swedish brand. Sophisticated but harmonious body plastic gives the car sportiness and light aggression. The V40 is especially good at the rear - gracefully curved LED taillights and a large spoiler above back door give it a special charm, and the black insert under rear window continues the tradition of the shocking C30. From eternal family values - forward to youth dynamism! And the dynamics of this hatchback does not occupy. Acceleration is powerful and smooth, with diesel pressure, the steering wheel is "short" and precise, and all the other mechanisms in this car work perfectly. Except that the suspension is stiff, and the low-profile tires do not tolerate the pits and cracks of our roads poorly.

The interior is the realm of Scandinavian design. Simplicity of forms and reverent attitude to the material are brought to perfection. The traditional "floating" console of the instrument panel with four "twists" and a "little man" of the air conditioner is strewn with a whole keyboard of buttons. Playing this "piano" on the go is not only inconvenient, but also dangerous. The abundance of various settings and the multi-stage required actions, in my opinion, are in conflict with the vaunted safety Volvo cars... Sure, a pedestrian airbag and anti-collision automatic braking are great, but the front and rear are wide. rear pillars significantly limit the view, the video camera quickly becomes covered with dirt, and the marking tracking system loses its meaning together with its disappearance. Of all the devices, the most useful in Russian conditions would be, perhaps, the BLIS system and pedestrian recognition in the dark.

Progress is unstoppable and the Volvo V40 is at the top. It remains to be regretted that our country is still at the bottom.

Leonid Golovanov

Volvo. I'm rolling. Not a sausage on Malaya Spasskaya, but a man. Which sounds proudly. Especially - in such silence, broken only by the quiet "odd" five-cylinder hum of a Volvo turbo engine.

It would seem that a golf-class "hatch" based on the previous Focus for more than two million rubles is a delusion of a madman, Alice in Wonderland, a robbery in the middle of a northern day. But I'm not offended. Moreover, I am pleased. At the wheel of a Volvo V40 XC (you will allow me to abbreviate the branded Cross Country here too) you feel that this is premium. And finally, the point is not at all in the numerous safety systems: take away all those radars and cameras, the "forty" Volvo will remain more than a worthy competitor to the cars of the "big German three". After all, the "one" BMW is much simpler, there is too much golf in the Audi A3, and there is even more of it in the Mercedes A-class. And then ... Focus? What are you talking about - this is a slightly stripped-down Volvo S60. Taste. Dignity. Tight leather-covered the steering wheel is light, but informative: in moderation - feelings of the road, in moderation - isolation from the outside world. In a straight line, the car goes as if by itself, in bends - complete obedience to the driver and an even perfected temper. Powerful acceleration - lagged but gentlemanly. "Automatic" is smooth, the suspension is compressed and energy-intensive. Normal clearance. Four-wheel drive. And radar cruise control that can guide you even in the city.

I also don’t understand why Steve Mattin was fired. He is now in a Lada, but the V40 is his last brainchild as Volvo's chief designer, and I remember how excited he was when he came to the booth of his former employers at the Paris Motor Show, where the new 40 was shown for the first time. He has nothing to be ashamed of - well done, Steve.

And I, perhaps, would have driven such a car, if it were a little more sporty. And cheaper.

Ilya Khlebushkin

I don’t understand why this Volvo suddenly became a Cross Country? Neither for country, nor even more so for cross-country, it is not good. And let the gigantic wheels and unpainted lining on the sills and bumpers try to pass it off as a crossover, but the ordinary light ground clearance will not be misled.

Baptize it Gran Turismo? By again: the trunk for long-distance travel is modest, and under the hefty hatch of the underground there is only a crutch.

Maybe a Family-Room? The atmosphere inside is cozy, albeit in the spirit of Scandinavian techno-minimalism, the materials are the envy of many, and the emphasized worship of safety is about the same. It remains to "clean up" on the "floating" console - to put in place the proprietary heap of the blind keyboard and replace the gear lever with a luminous selector circuit, which looks like a cheap craft from a Chinese trinket store.

No, Family-Room won't do either. The back row is cramped, the roof presses on the crown, my feet get stuck in a trap under the front seats - and even my fourteen-year-old son kissed the low doorway.

I think I've found it: Town Streets! Feeling like the fastest fish in a dense city school is hampered only by an unimportant view back and a frightening collision warning system with red flashes and a siren. Although it can either be turned off, or set up in a less panicky mood.

Under the wheels there is a snowy slurry, but on the dense and plump steering wheel, like a BMW, there is a transparency of the summer sky. Heavy, like frame SUV, treading on "little things" with increasing speed turns into a flying gait, the gearbox does not harm, and even a five-cylinder turbo engine on a golf-class hatchback simply must be a provocateur.

With such talents, even the price of a million dollars is not deterred. But I would still change my name so that everything is fair.

Konstantin Sorokin

This is not cross or country! And in general, no matter which side I looked at new Volvo V40 in pseudo-off-road guise, I did not see the whole image. Design, excuse me, too. The Volvo C30 has it. The XC family also clings to individuality. And here - a faceless collective image on the theme of the current golf-class hatchbacks.

It's good at least that from the inside the car is perceived as an ethnic "Scandinavian": aesthetically polished, flaunting impeccable materials and stuffed with the latest generation of electronic assistants. Instead of cameras, microwave sensors monitor the situation in the dead zones - this is also an indicator of the technical level. But why am I sitting so low? Why, driving into the parking lot, scraping the ice with a plastic body kit? Because there is no trace left of the real Cross Country. So enjoy the dynamic "shooting" of the 250-horsepower turbo engine, enjoy the road handling and in no case drive off the asphalt.

Sergei Znaemsky

Iron mark, the symbol of iron, the mark of Mars, the order of courage ... Is it still on the nose of a Volvo? Isn't it time to change it to a stylized Venus mirror? Who is the loveliest, most premium and fashionable in the world? The V40 Cross Country, of course!

Crossover is not a gender or a vocation, it is a trend, a style. This is look. Large boots with high soles for a tight-fitting suit, an advanced instrument device, a bauble for an illuminated transmission selector - this is the hero of our time. More precisely, the heroine.

Step outside. And there...

Oh my god, I'm in danger in the blind spot! The distance is shrinking! Speed exceeded! We are losing our streak ... How terrible it is to live!

Judging by the number of panic attacks on-board electronics, by the diligence with which the car “blows on the water”, defending itself “from the fool,” and by the importance that the Swedes attach to the promotion of such systems, drivers of the most basic level of training behind the wheel are not just not excluded, but and are especially welcome. Here it is, a new breed of Volvo driver: if even the cook is capable of running the state, then who cannot cope with a small Volvo?

If you are just such a “desperate housewife” who was tempted by the cautious little crossover V40 Cross Country in the T5 version, I hasten to please you - you have a chance in court, or even pre-trial, to return each of the 2 million 219 thousand rubles spent on it. Because you were deliberately misled: promoting the V40 in Russia as a SUV is much more promising than as a "hot hatch", which it is by birth.

If you turn off all electronic insurers and find a patch from which winter has not yet had time to retreat ... What the hell is a mirror! Flame motor, light-footed "automatic", muscular chassis and filigree handling - here it is, men's Volvo-driving!

It's great that the Swedes have finally managed to catch up with BMW and Audi in driving temperament, that there has been a rejection of excessive glamor in appearance, that a new chief interior designer has been invited from Bentley, who will certainly bring order to the Swedish family of knobs and buttons in front of the driver. Maybe then marketers will find the courage to spit on fashion and declare that Volvo is still a masculine brand. Or not? We have already forgotten how to recognize this by the emblem.

Igor Vladimirsky

Here's a station wagon for you, buyers. Large, with roomy interior, powerful engine - and even four-wheel drive. Do you take?

No, we don't need a shed!

And if we slightly lift it, put it in black plastic and call it an SUV?

Here is a dialogue explaining why the "ordinary" station wagons Subaru Legacy and Volvo V70 have already left the Russian market, leaving the Outback and XC70 in their place. The Audi A6 Avant is still holding on, but last year about thirty such station wagons were sold - Allroad is ten times more popular! Is it any wonder that Volvo decided not to bring the "regular" V40 hatchback to our market at all, having relied on its "crossover" version?

But it's one thing - a large station wagon grafted from light off-road (at least it goes with an unpainted plastic body kit), but a golf-class hatchback with silver-plated inserts disguised as power protection will be ridiculous except for Oka with a "kangaroo". And this is a shame, because I liked the Volvo V40 itself.

Is the love of Russians for ostentatious "off-road" so great that you can sacrifice beauty? In my opinion, “just” the Volvo V40 is one of the most beautiful cars of our day. But, alas, we cannot see the true purity of his lines.

An amazingly interesting salon! And in front of the driver is a real control panel! You sit down - and for a while you forget about everything in the world. In the middle there is a panel with a wonderful graphic typewriter, a huge transparent sunroof, an unusual luminous knob on the gear lever ... But when it becomes necessary to use all this beauty, you freeze again, but from confusion. Small buttons are scattered across the center console, and you won't be able to use them on the go without skill. To simply turn on the sound of the audio system, you need to click not on the wheel, but only on one part of it. I'm used to the fact that when you press the seat heating button, the indication appears on the button itself. And here it was a sting, a sting, but nothing caught fire. I thought it wasn’t working. Later I realized that I had to look at the display. She noted the almost complete lack of a backward view - and remembered that she faced a similar problem while driving the equally spectacular C30, which, by the way, has many similarities with the V40: from the interior design to the stunningly beautiful rear end of the body.

The car is going very well. Reception, reliable, intelligible. This car is like a cozy blanket on wheels, which is pleasant to wrap up in every time. And yet I miss the spark, the spark, the little imp that should live in my car. Doesn't turn on.

Vladimir Melnikov

In the Russian representative office of Volvo, unlike, say, Auto Review, the issue of the premium status of the brand was resolved long ago - and, of course, positively. That is why the advertising slogan for the V40 Cross Country hatchback for the ruthlessness of creativity can only compete with the "delights" from BMW - "Innovative"! And the union of two stickers on the doors of a hatchback parked near my house gave birth to an even stranger combination - "Innovative Butts".

Stop, this is true! Fifteen years ago, the Obukhov company, at that time an ordinary service for the repair of Swedish cars, offered "reverse tuning" - an increase in ground clearance on passenger models, the installation of power underbody protection ... Then the Swedes were skeptical about these experiments, although the Obukhovites actually anticipated the appearance cars with Cross, Scout and Alltrack attachments! The roads are a lot better now than they were then, but hey, the demand for elevated versions is only growing.

If you also need one for your day-to-day curb warfare, the V40 Cross Country is not a bad option at all. Of course, provided that you are leading these fights alone or at most together. Because the trunk here is not Volvian modest, but rear seats… What are the back seats?

But there is something cool ahead: excellent finish, beautiful, multifaceted dashboard... And the V40 rides in a way that none of the cars modified in the Obukhov Autocenter dreamed of. Are advertising slogans really that powerful? With its behavior, the V40 Cross Country really reminds me of a BMW! Dense suspension, informative steering wheel, quick and precise reactions. Driving a Volvo has never felt so good.

"The most innovative" gives rise to delight! Here it stuck ...

Ivan Shadrichev

There are Volvo and more beautiful, but in general this style is rather pleasant to me. The car is plump, and the hood would fit for a larger one; however, for the rear passengers it is cramped, both in the knees and feet, and in height - I’m not God knows what a giant, but I can barely fit “behind myself”.

I’m not bad at the wheel. Perhaps, for one little thing: the tachometer on the fashionable "virtual" dashboard turned out to be blind to me, and I could not understand the meaning of the indications of the arrow located symmetrically to it on the other side of the speedometer on the move. I suspect that she talks about fuel economy, and if so, then I do not regret at all that I was forced to ignore her movements. For I stomped on the right pedal heartily - and, I must admit, I gave myself pleasure. It is very pleasant, especially when the permissible overtaking zone is only two hundred meters, and you easily fit into this framework. And the quiet roar of the motor is pleasant to the ear. However, I will not call a completely comfortable ride: if the vibrations of the car are smoothed out on a good ride, then it is worth moderating the pressure - and the suspension will begin to allow both yaw and detailed repetition of pits and protrusions. Yes, and she is talkative in potholes.

What I liked unconditionally was the cornering behavior. For the time being, the stabilization system does not interfere with the control process at all, allowing it to slide in small angles. She wakes up exactly when I myself was about to correct drifts and drifts.

The rest of the electronic assistants were mostly upset. Take road sign reading, for example. With regard to our homeland - catch after catch. Here I crawled a speed bump, in front of whom there is a sign with the number 20, but there is no cancellation! And here I am with the wrong hint, until another restriction is met.

Warnings about dangerous encounters in the capital are also a hassle. These advisers work tirelessly, which is why you yourself panic from the imminent and inevitable collapse. I would like to immediately leave the car - and headlong into the subway, so as not to go out on highways again.

If I dare to drive, it’s as if it’s easier to drive.

Nikita Gudkov

In the competition for the most meaningless option on Russian market the road sign recognition system will win by a huge margin. Although in Volvo V40 these signs are displayed very conveniently - in color, on the field of the liquid crystal "speedometer". A mark appears on the interactive scale, and if you exceed the speed, the sign will flash for a couple of seconds.

But only in four out of five cases, the actually allowed speed was completely different! The main flaw is that the camera does not recognize the signs of the beginning and end of settlements, which in our country mainly determine speed mode... The system does not "recognize" the intersection, to which most often, according to our Rules, speed limit signs operate.

In second place in the rating of uselessness is the lane keeping assist system. Why help and not retention? Because at Volvo, it does not steer, but only hints at the intersection of the markings with a weak vibration of the steering wheel. When we drove the V40 Cross Country “to take a detour to St. Petersburg” (AP # 7, 2013), the vibration was almost constant - on our winter roads we had to drive over the markings all the time, avoiding holes, ice and snow.

Active cruise control ... Okay, perhaps I will not put it in third place - I will leave the "bronze" for the seven-color interior lighting. And cruise control, by the way, works here from zero speed, that is, it can drive a car in a traffic jam. There are delays in acceleration and deceleration, but not catastrophic. And if you are not embarrassed by the fact that the distance to a crawling car in front is always such that someone can climb (again, Russian specifics!), Then an active "cruise" will really allow you to relax while driving.

Let electronics be our future. Volvo assures that it is possible to fulfill the ambitious plan so that by 2020 people do not die in cars of this brand, it is possible only through electronic means. In the more traditional "automobile" areas, almost all reserves have been selected, and perfection has been almost achieved.

But it turns out that a car for 1.3 million rubles (in the basic configuration of the V40 Cross Country, I only lack seat heating) costs almost twice as much. Only one painting "metallic" at Volvo costs 40 thousand rubles, and "helpers" - and that is more expensive. Well, all of them!

International premiere of the "all-road" hatchback Volvo V40 with Cross attachment Country was officially held as part of the Paris Motor Show in September 2012 and was unexpected, because the public expected to watch the XC40 crossover from the Swedish manufacturer.

In March 2016, the five-door will appear at the Geneva Motor Show in an updated look with a tweaked "face", an expanded list of available equipment and a slightly improved interior.

Five-door body Volvo V40 Cross Country is dressed in a stylish and expressive design, and its differences from the usual "forty" are reduced only to a slightly increased ground clearance, plastic linings on bumpers and sills yes standard wheel rims dimension of 17 inches.

The "raised" hatchback is 4370 mm long, which fits the 2646 mm wheelbase, 1783 mm wide, and 1458 mm high. The clearance under the bottom of the equipped vehicle is set at 144 mm.

Inside, the Volvo V40 Cross Country copies the standard model: beautiful and modern styling, noble finishing materials and premium performance. The front seats in the "off-road" hatchback are comfortable, with a well-developed profile, but the rear sofa, despite the layout hospitable for two passengers, does not differ in excess free space.

Cargo capacity is not strong point"Raised" Volvo V40 - its volume varies from 335 to 1032 liters. But the positive points in the "hold" piggy bank are brought by the ideal shape, high-quality finish and the "dock" placed under the double floor.

Specifications. In Russian Volvo market The V40 Cross Country comes with a choice of four engines, exclusively automatic boxes transmissions and standard front-wheel drive, although all-wheel drive technology is also available for the "top" versions with a fifth generation Haldex multi-plate clutch, which connects, if necessary, the wheels of the rear axle.

  • The petrol part of the "off-road" Volvo V40 is presented in three versions - T3, T4 and T5:
    • The initial version is equipped with a 1.5-liter "four" with turbocharging and direct power supply, producing 152 "horses" at 5000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque limit at 1700-4000 rpm and working jumper with a 6-speed "automatic".
    • The intermediate version is a 2.0-liter unit with a turbocharger and direct injection technology, which has 190 Horse power at 5000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque at 1500-4000 rpm.
    • The "top" modification is equipped with the same motor, but with double supercharging, as a result of which it generates 245 "mares" at 5500 rpm and 350 Nm at 1500-4800 rpm. Both motors mate with an 8-speed automatic transmission, but for the "senior" version, only four-wheel drive is available, and for the "junior" one is also front-wheel drive.

Gasoline "forty" show good driving performance: from a standstill to 100 km / h, they "shoot" in 6.1-8.5 seconds, and the maximum gain is 210 km / h. Their passport fuel consumption ranges from 5.6 to 6.4 liters per combined “hundred” of run.

  • The diesel version of the D2 is the lowest-powered in the Volvo V40 Cross Country line - under its hood is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder turbo, producing 120 horsepower at 3750 rpm and 280 Nm of peak torque at 1500-2250 rpm.
In partnership with it, a 6-speed automatic transmission appears, which allows the car to change 190 km / h, leaving behind the first "hundred" in 10.6 seconds, and consume no more than 3.9 liters of fuel in a combined driving cycle.

Structurally Cross version Country almost completely repeats base model: front-wheel drive architecture Ford C1 with independent chassis "in a circle" (front MacPherson strut and rear "multi-link"), electric power steering and brake discs on four wheels, supplemented by ventilation on the front axle.
The differences between the "off-road" hatchback are only in different calibrations of springs and passive shock absorbers, as well as a body raised by 12 mm.

Options and prices. Volvo dealers in Russia offer the V40 Cross Country in Summum, Momentum and Ocean Race trim levels starting at RUB 1,309,000.
Already in the "base" the car has: ABS, ESP, seven airbags, dual-zone "climate", rear parking sensors, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, premium audio system, leather interior, 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control and other modern "gadgets".
