On my Largus station wagon, after the fender was scratched, the metal for some reason bloomed. Rust appeared near the chip. Is the body of the Lada Largus not galvanized?

Different brochures say one thing: all external panels are zinc-protected! It seems that it cannot even be otherwise. But I could not find zinc on the metal where there was a scratch. What does it mean? I just want to find out who is cheating whom.

There are not many external differences between the Largus. And only by looking closely, you can determine that the cross-version is slightly higher than the donor. It has unpainted bumpers with gray accents on the bottom, as well as additional black wheel arch liners and sills. Regular Largus are equipped with 15-inch wheels, and 16-inch wheels are used. That's just spare wheel both have the same 15-inch, so in the first case the spare wheel is full-sized, and in the second only in the status of a stowaway. Pleasant discrepancies

In the course of measurements, it turned out that the ground clearance of the Cross version was already 210 mm (under the engine crankcase). For a car that, as conceived by the creators, should regularly move off the asphalt, this is not bad. For the usual Largus, the ground clearance was 182 mm under a similar shield in the engine compartment. By the way, the manufacturer claims that when fully loaded, including passengers in the last, third row of seats, the ground clearance will be at least 170 and 145 mm, respectively.

Our Cross turned out to be 35 kg heavier than the usual Largus. But one plastic body kit, which gives brutality and protects the paintwork of the car from scratches when driving over rough terrain, cannot weigh so much. Some of these 35 kg can be attributed to wheels bigger size... Perhaps there are other technical solutions that give the model additional mass?

We drive cars onto lifts, remove wheels and conduct an inspection with passion. Despite the apparent identity, differences were found. Largus with the Cross attachment has original front struts. In particular, the spring cup is welded to the body 30 mm higher than that of the station wagon. This also provides an increased ground clearance. By the way, both models are equipped with Monroe stands at the factory. The rear gas shocks are also different. This is confirmed by the identification numbers. The bodies and rods of the shock absorbers at Largus Cross are longer, and the length of the rear suspension springs is also increased.

As I was told at VAZ, when working with the cross-version suspension, the engineers were faced with the task of preserving the suspension settings of a conventional Largus as much as possible, and they succeeded. In terms of handling and driving comfort, the cars are very similar. At the very least, the average driver is unlikely to feel the difference in car behavior on a good road. But when driving on a dirt road or broken asphalt Largus Cross slightly wins in terms of smoothness due to the increased rolling radius of the wheel and wider tires.

Cross economy

It is unlikely that there will be conditions in which the geometric cross-country ability of cars will play a decisive role. Still, the difference in ground clearance is not so significant. More important, I think, are the fuel consumption figures. "Raised" Largus spends 1.4 liters more for every hundred kilometers of run in the city and 0.8 liters more when driving on the highway in comparison with a station wagon without a Cross attachment. At least that's what the manufacturer says. But this is already a noticeable difference, especially at a long distance. What is it caused by? Considering that gear ratios cross-modification gearboxes have not changed, it remains to rely only on aerodynamics, wheel size and an additional 35 kg of curb weight.

Summarize. If you want a slightly better ride and comfort, or if you need to regularly wade through fields and small bushes without damaging the body, take Largus Cross. If every penny counts, a station wagon will do - it is both cheaper and a little more economical to operate. By the way, Largus without the Cross prefix is ​​also available with 92 gasoline. But the 102-horsepower sixteen-valve installed on test cars is designed for 95th gasoline.

As for sales statistics, out of 26,460 Largus sold in 11 months of 2016, 50% of sales fell on regular Largus. Another 30% of buyers preferred the Cross version, and the remaining 20% ​​chose the van.

On the Lada Largus, the VAZ engineers managed to bring the body to perfection, which became an advanced stage in the epic of the Russian car industry. Painting

The Largus body is painted in a special workshop, the modernization of which has not yet begun. As promised, this will happen soon. By the middle of summer next year, body painting will begin using nanotechnology. Several bodies, for the purpose of experiment, have already been painted in this way. And the result immediately impressed with the brightness of the paintwork and its durability.

How is painting done using nanoscale methods? The paint is deposited on body parts using electricity and a magnetic field. Then the body is waxed, and then give it a personal color. Work is also underway to improve the coverage.

It will be interesting to know that wax increases the metal's ability to resist corrosion by several times. For this reason, it is injected in large quantities into cracks and hard-to-reach places in the body.

Rigidity

The body was assembled at a height. This increases the torsional rigidity. Today it is 14,000 N * m / degree. For our domestic car, this is a very good indicator.

Note. So, the body was subjected to torsion testing more than once: the load was applied to the door opening of the rear part of the body. So what? The result of deformation is only 1.5 mm, when these changes in the body of some foreign cars and domestic cars during similar tests reached 5-6 mm.

1. How did the name Largus come about and what does it mean?

AVTOVAZ for new car chose the name based on current trends in automotive naming. In the bulk of the names of high-capacity cars, LADA Largus also refers to such cars, associated with travel, with a large interior volume and luggage compartment... Translated from Latin, Largus means "generous." This car will really turn out to be "generous". There is a lot in it. Lots of seats, a lot of luggage space, lots of interior space, lots of transformation options, and so on.

2. Do you plan to install VAZ engines, an automatic transmission, diesel engines on the Lada Largus?
