While developing the interior, Subaru specialists did not become wise, and therefore, the XV almost completely repeats the interior of the Impreza hatchback. In a word, the interior of the car is very commonplace. In the center dashboard an information display is located, displaying data on the operation of the main components and assemblies. The center console received a large color touchscreen, embodying the functions of the navigation system and the multimedia center. The image of external cameras is also projected here.

The luggage compartment cannot be called roomy, only 310 liters. It is saved by the fact that the rear sofa folds out into a flat floor, which increases the trunk volume to 570 liters. You can limit yourself to folding only one half of the sofa.

The model has exceptional driving characteristics and economical fuel consumption. The range of engines consists of three units: two petrol 1.6 and 2.0 liters with 115 and 150 hp. respectively, and a 2.0 liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 147 hp. For the Russian market, Subaru XV is offered with two engines, 1.6 and 2.0 liters, 114 and 150 horsepower. The first is offered in tandem with either a 5-speed mechanical box transmissions, or with a continuously variable "variator" Lineartronic, the second engine - either with a 6-speed manual transmission or with the same Lineartronic.

The new Lineartronic CVT is, according to Subaru, "an innovative engineering development." The main feature of the variator is the installation of a chain for transmitting torque between the two variator pulleys. This solution increased the efficiency by about 5% compared to the belt design. In addition, by optimizing the position of the shafts and other main internal components, the continuously variable transmission has turned out to be more compact and lighter, which has led to an improvement in all key indicators: reduced fuel consumption, improved ride and feedback.

There are MacPherson struts in the front, double wishbones in the back. Disc brakes are installed on all four wheels, with the front pair being ventilated. Naturally, there is a proprietary system of symmetrical AWD all-wheel drive. Depending on the transmission, the all-wheel drive is based on either a multi-plate clutch with electronic control or viscous coupling with center and self-locking differential. Vehicles with CVTs use an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch that distributes torque in a 60:40 ratio. The transmission control unit reacts to driving conditions such as acceleration, hill climbing, cornering, and adjusts the torque distribution between the front and rear wheels in real time. For example, when front wheel slip is detected, the system increases the proportion of torque distributed to the rear wheels, thereby providing significant tractive effort.

The model has a high level of safety and received a maximum rating of "5 stars" in the tests of the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) in 2011. The use of high tensile steel sheets in the body shell has resulted in a reduction in weight. This model has one of the lightest bodies in its class, and offers classic strength, in particular increased bending stiffness.

The driver's foot slope has been made thicker than previous models to increase durability and protect the driver from pedaling backwards in the event of a collision. Reinforcement elements are used at the base of the A-pillar to increase the strength of the connection between the A-pillar and the upper frame. This ensures that the impact energy from a frontal collision is efficiently transferred from the frame to the strut. This feature offers a high level of safety in terms of crash protection. High-strength elements are used in the sidewalls of the car, where there are few deformable zones. This helps to minimize body deformation in the event of a side collision. The move to a double-beam structure for the tailgate helped to limit the level of deformation of the panel around the outside door handle, increasing occupant protection in the event of a side collision.

The rear of the chassis is designed to distribute rearward collision energy evenly to the left and right with diagonal elements, helping to minimize deformation of the passenger compartment. In line with the new Euro NCAP protocol, Subaru has increased the foam energy absorbing element and the lower center bumper bracket.

Inheriting the new seat design of the Subaru Legacy, the seats are designed to limit the severity of neck injuries and to gently guide passengers in the event of a collision. The developers have not forgotten about the airbags either - in the Subaru XV there is a complete set of them: front, side, curtains, driver's track airbag. Moreover, the front airbags have a so-called double structure - a bend in the center, so that the passenger's neck is exposed to less impact when deployed. But that's not all: the front cushions open first in width, and then in volume, which excludes the possibility of a person's head slipping to the side during its deployment. Also introduced are airbags for the driver's knees. By expanding the protection zone, the curtain airbags support a wider range of shapes and seating positions for passengers.
