Engine: 1.6 (101 HP) Checkpoint: M5

Low seating position, the transmission is engaged with effort. Interior noise after 120 km / h. A set of speed with dips. Glasses are sweating, you have to use a fan.

Review of Kia Spectra left by: Victor Kulagin from the city of Pikalevo

I have had a car since December 2007, I bought it at a car dealership, a mechanic. I am very satisfied, the consumption of 10 liters in the city, 6.7 liters on the highway. 3 times went with the whole family on it to the Black Sea. As of March 2014, I have already traveled 230,000 km, I fill in the synthetics of Mobile 1 (I used to pour Esso, then Liquid Molly, and still stopped at Mobile, the engine runs smoother). The spectrum never let me down, it started up quietly at minus 30, if the battery is good and oil. There is not a single hint of corrosion on the body, I will wash it, and it is like new. On the track it holds the road well, low center of gravity, wide base. Spare parts like on VAZ, only the quality is better, the radiator costs 1200 rubles.

Review of Kia Spectra 1.6 by: Alexander from Moscow

In principle, an ordinary budget Russian foreign car.

Let's start with the disadvantages: low ground clearance coupled with pecks on significant bumps. Front struts on rebound work with a knock. Bad noise. The engine is noisy. Incomprehensible hiss of wind at the left front side window. Not comfortable getting in and out of the car. In cold weather, the driver's side window fogs up half. Small resource of the timing belt. Dim fog light. Somewhat fuzzy gear shifting. Parking brake not really.

Now about the pros. Not expensive parts. Normal handling, especially on a winter road, when on the highway, the car goes smoothly. ..the full text of the review of the Kia Spectra 1.6

Review of Kia Spectra 1.6 by: Greks from the city of Yoshkar-ola

Auto 2007 of the simplest configuration without kondeya, el. mirrors, casting, disc brakes at the back. I bought a 2 owner from a peasant handicraft, cars in excellent tech. condition, and external. I gave away from her everything that had been acquired in 6 years of service, starting from the new summer and winter tires on casting and ending with bulbs side lights and washer nozzles windshield 3 sets of wipers. For 9 months of operation, with my not calm driving, both in the city in 1 gear up to 50 km / h, and on the highway 170-190 km / h. I walk all the time, there were no problems, I don't use oil. Changed 2 times after 10,000 thousand. Full text of the review of the Kia Spectra 1.6

Review of Kia Spectra 1.6 by: Seryoga from the city of Veliky Novgorod

I had a Kia Spectra from 2007-2013. During this period, I drove a little sotochku. Auto never let me down anywhere and did not bother me with excessive attention to myself. Not a very whimsical machine, it was even sad to sell. During operation, I changed the timing belt + rollers according to the regulations, filter, spark plug, stabilizer bar. At 85,000 km I changed the ball joint, the torn boot did its job. Everything is very cheap and in any service station they change inexpensively.

Of the minuses unnecessarily soft suspension, a large overhang, you have to be careful to keep the bumper and eats a little too much gasoline for 101 horses, but he eats any of our gasoline and does not sneeze.

Kia Spectra appeared back in 1997. At that time, the sedan was called the Kia Sephia and was built on a redesigned Mazda 323 platform. In addition to the South Korean market, the car was offered in Europe (Shuma), America, Asia, Australia (Mentor) and the Middle East (Spectra).

In 2000, the sedan underwent restyling, and the Sephia emblem was replaced by the Spectra lettering. In Europe and Australia, the name remained the same. The production of the model was stopped in 2004, but in Russia its life was just beginning. Industrial assembly in Izhevsk started in 2004 and ended in 2010. In the summer of 2011, within the framework of obligations to Kia Motors, a limited batch of 1,700 pieces rolled off the IzhAvto assembly line.

Let's take a look inside. The interior of the Kia Spectra does not make a pleasant impression. The interior trim uses cheap, rough and hard plastic in gray shades. The pluses include comfortable, wide chairs with a long cushion, allowing you to comfortably travel long distances. You can't blame the sedan for the back sofa either. And the 440-liter trunk is enough for everyday needs.

Most of the specimens are rather poorly equipped. V standard equipment included an airbag, immobilizer and audio preparation. Hydroamplifier, central locking, power windows, ABS, front passenger airbag and air conditioning required a surcharge.

The car did not take part in the crash tests according to the EuroNCAP version, but in 1999 the Americans from the IIHS National Security Institute took care of this. Of the four possible grades, the sedan earned the lowest "Poor" - bad level security. The driver received injuries to his neck and head, incompatible with life.

Engines

The Korean was equipped with atmospheric gasoline engines with a capacity of 1.5, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 liters. Hinting at the time of their debut, the Spectra motors have acquired the "Millennium Technology", which is eloquently indicated by the inscription on the cover "Mi-Tech". All units are the result of the modernization of Mazda engines. They have a belt-type timing drive.

The most widespread is the 16-valve 1.6-liter S6D engine. This is nothing more than a refined Mazda engine B6. Korean engineers shortened its warm-up time and installed a highly efficient catalyst. The valves are equipped with hydraulic pushers, the block is cast iron, and the head is made of aluminum.

Among the disadvantages are noisy work hydraulic lifters and short service life high-voltage wires, candles and ignition coils - about 50-100 thousand km. After 150-200 thousand km, the starter and generator will require repair.

In addition, malfunctioning of the engine can occur due to the failure of the MAF sensor. DMRV appeared in 2008. Before him, a more reliable MAP sensor was used (measures pressure).

Many owners of Izhevsk Spektr “hit the capital” of the engine, having driven only 45,000 km. When assembling, a timing belt of too low quality was installed. It broke off, and the valves "met" the pistons. Today, many mechanics in the old fashioned way recommend not to tempt fate and change the timing every 40,000 km.

After 100-150 thousand km, the valve cover gasket sometimes begins to poison the oil. Oil also appears in candle wells. If antifreeze is found there, or the head gasket has leaked, then, most likely, the cylinder head has burst and it will have to be replaced. The defect is caused by overheating. The cost of a new head is about 30,000 rubles.

Transmission

The Kia Spectra was equipped with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. Both boxes have their drawbacks.

Mechanics often require bulkheads up to 150-200 thousand km. In addition to the stuffing box leak input shaft, howl or hum builds up over time. However, howl at the first and reverse gears- a common thing, and some owners drive 250-300 thousand km without repair. For the bulkhead, you will need about 20,000 rubles.

In the history of the Spectra, several automatic transmissions have been used. The F-4EAT and F4A-EL are co-developed by Mazda and Jatco. It was installed only with a 1.8 liter engine. In addition, the A4AF3, F4A42 and A4CF2 boxes developed by Mitsubishi were used. The first two could be combined with engines with a capacity of 1.5 and 1.8 liters. But the latter just went to sedans of the Russian assembly.

It is generally accepted that the reliable Spectra machines ended in 2007. According to some sources, it was then that the boxes began to be assembled in China. They suffer from premature wear on clutches and solenoids. The repair should be prepared closer to 100,000 km, which will require at least 30,000 rubles.

Typical symptoms: jolts when switching from 1st to 2nd and overrunning / slipping when changing from 2nd to 3rd. If you pull with the repair, then after a while a crunch appears when starting off and during a stop.

It is necessary to regularly monitor the condition of the CV joint anthers. They either fly off because of flimsy clamps, or are torn from old age already by 100,000 km. As a result, dust and dirt damage the CV joint, which changes together with the drive.

Undercarriage

Ball joints run more than 60-100 thousand km. The silent blocks of the levers are stratified after 100-150 thousand km. Shock absorbers also serve the same amount. By this time, the factory springs may have subsided or burst, especially for those who use turn-to-turn spacers.

After 100,000 km, it may leak or thunder steering rack... The cost of a new rail is from 16,000 rubles.

Closer to 100,000 km, the ABS unit often fails. It's all about the electric motor. Moisture gets inside, which leads to bearing corrosion and oxidation of the rotor winding contacts. The unit lends itself to simple refurbishment. After 2009, they began to use a modernized block with improved moisture protection.

Body and interior

The paintwork is not highly wear-resistant. The bonnet and bumper are chipped quickly. Body iron is not prone to corrosion. Rust pockets usually occur in places of poor-quality body repair.

Water in the cabin may appear due to clogged drains under the outer plastic trim at the bottom of the windshield. In addition, water can enter the passenger compartment due to clogged drain holes in the sills. The water in the thresholds accelerates the corrosion process.

Of the minor faults, one can note the failure of the fuel level sensor and problems with the stove motor (the motor itself or the mode switch fails). After 150-200 thousand km, you should be ready to replace the air conditioning compressor clutch or its bearings.

Market situation

A tired sedan on the move can be purchased for 130,000 rubles. For well-groomed cars, they ask for almost 300,000 rubles. More than 90% of the offers are cars Russian assembly... It is generally accepted that younger copies released after 2008 are less reliable.

Conclusion

Kia Spectra - typical budget sedan which is not highly reliable. However, the cost of repairs against the background of modern technologically complex machines is good news. All common ailments are well understood and easily remedied. Any garage mechanic can handle the repair. There are no problems with the availability of spare parts. Kia Spectra is an offer for those who want to purchase an inexpensive and easy-to-use sedan.

KIA "Spectra": pros and cons.
December 2007 I bought new kia"Spectra" of Izhevsk assembly in the FB2272 configuration (ABS with four disc brakes, air conditioning, PTF, manual transmission). Of course, I am not an expert in the field of automotive industry, and this material, first of all, is the view of an ordinary user of this product. I hope my observations will serve as food for thought for those who are thinking about buying this model. Moreover, I do not give a comparison of "Spectra" with cars of other brands and do not give any advice, decide for yourself - only "naked" facts.
Body. Trunk. Salon.
You can argue for a long time and unsuccessfully about whether the design of the car is outdated or not - this is a matter of taste and preferences, nevertheless, it is much more important that the body conscientiously fulfills its aerodynamic functions and is easy to use. With these responsibilities the body "Spectra" copes well. There are no special complaints about aerodynamics, but at speeds above 140 km / h the car starts to lift off the ground a little and, if the road is uneven, the control becomes a little nervous on the waves of asphalt. The exterior mirrors whistle loudly in crosswinds and at high speeds (160-170 km / h). You get used to the dimensions very quickly, and informative mirrors and bumpers that protrude beyond the body help in this. With a considerable length for a city car, parallel parking does not cause any particular difficulties. But, however, I would like to note such a feature of the car as permanently dirty side windows of the front doors in wet weather, and the dirt from the windshield is focused precisely in the viewing area of the side mirrors, and the water from the driver's "wiper" falls on the left side window.
At first glance, the Spectra trunk is only pleasing: spacious, has a good loading opening, equipped with mounting hooks and independent lighting, and the rear seat back folds two to three. When it comes to loading, there are two main drawbacks that significantly spoil the impression of the trunk volume figures. Yes, the seats can be folded separately, but access to the passenger compartment is blocked by a bulkhead that serves as a torsion amplifier for the body, and the opening in it is very small. The second disadvantage is the trunk lid hinges, which have a very long overhang. Because of this, a lot of useful space is lost, however, this drawback is inherent in most other cars. The question may arise, how objectively these disadvantages interfere? Judge for yourself: for all its dimensions, four regular wheels do not fit into the trunk! However, you don't carry them with you every day.
The interior of the car does not impress with its size, but it is quite comfortable. There is plenty of room in the front and back so you don't feel cramped. Getting in and out of the rear passengers is difficult due to the wide cushion rear seat, but this disadvantage is compensated by the comfortable position of the passenger on the seat itself, which, you see, is more important on the road. Despite the boringness repeatedly emphasized by journalists, the finish is quite solid. The plastic doesn't look cheap, the joints fit well. Velor is non-staining and easy to clean. In general, the interior, although it looks "boring", is nevertheless quite bright and pleasant to the eye. Good impression lubricated only by the not very comfortable driver's seat and squeaks of the headliner. But, if you can still fight with the latter, then as for the driver's seat - here you have to come to terms with the inconvenience, although I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that my back felt pretty good during the trip from St. Petersburg to Crimea and back. The armrest is probably worth a lot of money, so instead of it, there is a "container for small things" between the front seats. The glove compartment is not equipped with illumination, apparently due to its modest size (although there is a regular place for illumination inside). With interior lighting, everything is five points. Bright light and smooth shutdown delay are standard for modern cars. There are no special complaints about the ventilation of the cabin, except for a clear tendency to fogging the driver's side window. I solved this problem by using an aerosol anti-fogging agent. Well, and finally, a little fly in the ointment. The vehicle body has no towing eyes, either at the front or at the rear. So if, God forbid, you get stuck somewhere, pulling the car out without risking breaking the bumpers will be very problematic.
Engine. Transmission. Running gear. Brake system.
I will not repeat myself about technical characteristics and go directly to the sensations during operation. The engine does not bother with noise until the tachometer needle approaches 3000 rpm. Those. acoustic comfort you will experience smoothly accelerating to a speed of about 80 km / h. The pleasure can be extended for some more time if the further acceleration is carried out in fifth gear. If you prefer a sharper acceleration with the inclusion of "fifth" to "hundred", then the speed set will be quite loudly commented on by the engine. In order for the "Spectra" to quickly accelerate, it is necessary to constantly keep the engine speed at least 4000 rpm, otherwise the acceleration will be at the level of domestic "basins". In general, the car very quickly discourages the idea of "drag racing". This is facilitated by the engine strangled by the EURO norms, but the gearbox is still to blame for the most part. The transition from the first gear to the second is especially unfortunate. The work of the clutch is also specific. It is not always possible to clearly catch the moment of engagement. But in a calm, unhurried movement you don't feel all this. Gears are engaged clearly and effortlessly, the car goes smoothly and ... boring. However, as anyone. Smooth running, probably, at one time was one of the advantages that seduced the American consumer. But what is good for flat roads is not quite suitable for Russian ones. The notorious smoothness of the course actually turns into a very tangible and sharp shaking on the bumps of our "speedways". The suspension “swallows” small cracks and pits almost imperceptibly, but does not like shallow recesses very much, driving into them with all its kilograms and sharply throwing you behind it. In a word, it gallops. Another interesting thing: the front shock absorbers rebound very sharply. This is manifested by the fact that when the wheel enters the hole and this hole is deep enough, or it is not a hole, but a small "road springboard" of which there are plenty on our roads, the shock absorber rod is fully extended, and the wheel hits the limiter with all its weight. At the same time, a very unpleasant and strong knock is heard. The most interesting thing is that in this case your speed can be very different from 5 to 200 km / h. - it does not matter! The way out is to be attentive to this feature of the car, otherwise the service will have to be visited much earlier than the scheduled time. In the corners, no special rolls are noted, the car keeps the trajectory pretty well. The brakes (all disc, front - ventilated) are pleasantly pleased with the presence of ABS, which reacts to blocking with a slight delay, which gives the driver some freedom in driving, but always clearly aligns the car on the braking trajectory, without giving a chance to skid. We put brake system solid four. By the way, I do not recommend buying and installing 195 / 65R14 tires specified in the operating manual on standard disks. it is wider than the disc, but in practice it turns into a yaw of the car.
Summary.
Summing up, Spectra makes an impression rather positive than none. This is a decent example of a budget family car for every day. The efficiency of the engine will not hit the family budget with gasoline bills (although it is written in the passport to fill not lower than AI92, - I tried it, - it's still better than AI95), but THAT is quite expensive.

Budget korean car, which was produced by the company for some time, and then it was produced in our country and had good success not only in our country, but also in the USA - this is the KIA Spectra.

The car went into production in 1999 and was initially sold only at home for a year and under a different name, and then mass production was launched for sale all over the world. Official production and sales were completed in 2004, but after that production continued at the Izh-Auto plant with the permission of KIA, so it lasted until 2011.

Design

The appearance of the car is rather outdated by modern standards, but still it looks good against the background of competitors in the aftermarket. The front of the sedan received a relief hood. Quite simple halogen optics, between which there is a small grille made of polished metal. The bumper is quite massive when compared to the size of the car. It is equipped with large round fog lamps.

On the side, the model has a smooth line extending from rear light to the front. Conventional beveled arches have 14 wheels. The doors are decorated with chrome molding, and the turn signal is duplicated on the front arch.

The rear is simple, with a low spoiler lip on the boot lid. The optics are quite simple, and the massive bumper is also not distinguished by any elements.

Dimensions (edit) sedan KIA Spectrum:

  • length - 4510 mm;
  • width - 1720 mm;
  • height - 1415 mm;
  • clearance - 154 mm;
  • wheelbase - 2560 mm.

Specifications

The model was equipped with any of 3 types of gasoline 4-cylinder atmospheric engines.

  1. The first engine had a volume of 1.6 liters and with its volume it produced 101 horsepower... The motor will take 11 and a half seconds to accelerate the car to the first hundred. The unit consumes 10 liters in the city and 6 on the highway. The motor receives complaints, it does not work stably, that is, it pulls well in the first gear, not very well in the second, and in the rest it is already better.
  2. The next engine has a volume of 1.8 liters and produces 126 forces. Unfortunately, nothing is known about the dynamic performance of this unit, since it was not supplied to our country. Known maximum speed equal to 196 km / h and the combined cycle consumption is equal to 10 liters.
  3. The last engine is a 2-liter unit with a capacity of 140 forces. For some reason, it accelerates the car slower than the weakest one. The KIA Spectra engine takes 12.2 seconds for the sedan to reach the first hundred, and the top speed will be only 175 km / h. Combined consumption is just over 9 liters.

All motors are offered in a pair with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Regardless of the engine and gearbox, the car will always have front-wheel drive... The gearbox travel is very large, and the clutch pedal is pressed just lightly. It's hard to say plus or minus, decide for yourself. The settings of the units are incomprehensible, it shows itself well on high revs, but gives a very sharp pickup at 4000 thousand, and this thrust could be tried to be distributed over the entire range.

The suspension of the model works separately, the driver with active driving will have the feeling that the rear part cannot keep up with the muzzle. I am glad that with sharp turns there are no strong rolls, and with a quiet ride, the car rides smoothly. Also, on rough roads, the undercarriage makes very terrible and frightening sounds. The brakes are completely disc and there were no complaints from the owners against them.

Interior

The salon is not very roomy, but only people of large build will complain about the defect. On the driver's door there are buttons for all power windows and a button for blocking these power windows. There is also a lever on the opening handle that locks all doors.

The driver of the KIA Spectra receives a 4-spoke steering wheel, behind which the usual dashboard with on-board computer... The center console is also simple, it has a couple of buttons on top, a radio tape recorder and a selector for the stove and air conditioner, there is also a niche for small things and an ashtray. The entire center console may not be made of plastic, but of wood, but this depends on the configuration.

Under the gearshift lever, the engineers placed two cupholders and an armrest into which you can fold something. Rear passengers get nothing but power windows and that is not in every configuration.

The luggage compartment is acceptable for a family car, its volume is 440 liters, but you can fold the rear row of seats and get 1125 liters. As a result, I would like to say that the manufacturer saved a lot in the cabin, hard plastic and self-tapping screws in a conspicuous place spoil the impression of the KIA Spectra. You will not find much difference with AvtoVAZ.

By the way, there is an interesting and useful, but slightly unusual function. If power unit is started and someone opens the door, the alarm will turn on.

Price

As you know this car has already been discontinued, and it will not work to buy it new. We will tell you about the prices that were before and about the prices of those present at secondary market... The manufacturer offers 4 types of configurations, the base costs 11,500 dollars, and there is practically nothing in it, not even a power steering.

The second trim will cost $ 700 more, and it will already receive central locking and front power windows. The third configuration is no different from the basic one, except that automatic transmission gear.

The latest version cost almost $ 15,000 and it already had power steering, automatic transmission and two airbags. You can buy this car on the secondary market, its average price is 200,000 rubles.

Previously, the Spectra belonged to a budget car and now nothing has changed, if you like it, you can take it for normal city driving and just drive, but no more.

Video

Kia Spectra ground clearance or clearance as for any other passenger car is an important factor on our roads. It is the condition of the road surface or its complete absence that makes Russian motorists interested in the clearance of the Kia Spectra and the possibility of increasing ground clearance using spacers.

To begin with, it's worth honestly saying that real ground clearance Kia Spectra may seriously differ from that declared by the manufacturer. The whole secret is in the method of measurement and the place of measurement of the ground clearance. So find out real situation affairs can only be done by yourself armed with a tape measure or a ruler. Official clearance of Kia Spectra Russian assembly is 156 mm, with an automatic gearbox, this figure is 154 mm. In reality, the clearance is only about 12 centimeters!

Some manufacturers go for the trick and declare the size of the ground clearance in an "empty" car, but in real life we have a full trunk of all sorts of things, passengers and the driver. That is, in a loaded car, the clearance will be completely different. Another factor that few people have in mind is the age of the car and the wear and tear of the springs, their “subsidence” from old age. The issue is solved by installing new springs or buying spacers under sagging springs Kia Spectra... The spacers allow you to compensate for the drop of the springs and add a couple of centimeters of ground clearance. Sometimes even a centimeter in the parking lot at the curb plays an important role.

But do not get carried away with the "lift" of the Kia Spectra's ground clearance, because the spacers to increase the clearance are focused only on the springs. If you do not pay attention to the shock absorbers, the travel of which is often very limited, then self-modernization of the suspension can lead to loss of control and damage to the shock absorbers. In terms of cross-country ability, high ground clearance in our harsh conditions is good, but at high speeds on the track and in corners, there is a serious buildup and additional body roll.

So the measurement of the actual (real) ground clearance of the Kia Spectra, see the photo below.

That is, before the elements exhaust system only 120 mm. Note that there is even less clearance under the metal engine guard.

The problem of low ground clearance on the Spectra is solved by installing spacers between the pillar and the body. Moreover, you can buy spacers for both the front suspension and the rear. The choice on the market is huge, you can take expensive aluminum original spacers (as in the photo) or look for cheaper options from another material of dubious origin.

When designing a suspension and choosing the amount of ground clearance, any car manufacturer is looking for a middle ground between handling and cross-country ability. Perhaps the easiest, safest and most unpretentious way to increase clearance is to install wheels with “high” tires. Changing wheels makes it easy to increase the ground clearance by another centimeter.

Remember that a major change in ground clearance can damage the Kia Spectra CV joints. After all, "grenades" will have to work from a slightly different angle. But this only applies to the front axle. Moreover, a serious change in ground clearance can lead to uneven rubber wear.
