For the consumer, in the final analysis, it is not “marketing wars” that are important, and it is also impossible to refer to “patriotism” indefinitely - the main thing is that it drives, does not break down and is inexpensive.

The Russians have known this four-door only since 2004, but its history began much earlier - in 1992, a model called Sephia debuted in South Korea, which has undergone several updates during its "life cycle", and in 2000 it was renamed "Spectra" ... At home, the car was produced until 2004, at the same time its production was established at the Izhevsk Automobile Plant (up to 2011, the enterprise collected over 104 thousand of such sedans).

Outside, the Kia Spectra does not make a strong impression - there is nothing to catch the eye in the exterior of the car, and its design sends directly to the 90s of the last century. But at the same time, the sedan looks neat and very harmonious, and you can't even call it scary - a "friendly" front end with neat lighting equipment and a nice bumper, a classic three-volume silhouette with a long hood and a tangible "outgrowth" of the trunk, a pretty stern with flashy lights and "plump »Bumper.

Dimensions "Spectra" fully correspond to the concepts of "golf" -class according to the European classification: 4510 mm in length, 1415 mm in height and 1720 mm in width. The front and rear axles of the four-door are 2560 mm apart, and its "belly" is separated from the roadway by a ground clearance of 154 mm.

The interior of the Kia Spectra also lacks design delights - a simple and boring atmosphere reigns inside, which is slightly "enlivened" by well-thought-out ergonomics. An archaic, but informative "board" of instruments, a simple four-spoke steering wheel and an inconspicuous center console with asymmetric ventilation deflectors, a digital clock and three "twists" of the climate system - everything is primitive, but reliable and functional. The decoration of the car is tailored exclusively with budget materials - hard plastics and ordinary fabric.

The main advantage of the Spectra salon is a solid supply of free space on each of the rows of seats. The front seats offer riders an acceptable profile with unobtrusive lateral support and wide adjustment intervals, while the rear sofa has a very good configuration and soft padding.

The luggage compartment of the Kia Spectra is not impressive in its scope - in the standard form its volume is 440 liters, and when folded in the ratio "2: 3" rear seats increases to 1125 liters. And he has obvious problems with the shape: the wheel arches protrude noticeably inward, and the opening is narrowed by slanting lights. The underground niche houses a full-size spare wheel and the necessary tools.

All "fours" direct power in full to the wheels of the front axle using a 5-speed "manual" gearbox or 4-speed "automatic". Basically, the Kia Spectra uses a front-wheel drive bogie borrowed from the Mazda Familia, with a transversely mounted powertrain. All wheels of the car are suspended by means of independent suspensions: McPherson shock struts are used at the front, and a multi-link architecture at the rear (in each case with steel springs and anti-roll bars).
Ventilated pancakes are used on the front axle of the three-volume brake system, and in the back - more simple "drums" (on versions with ABS - disc devices). "Koreets" is equipped with a "gear-rack" steering complex, in which a hydraulic control amplifier is mounted.

Options and prices. In Russia, "Spectra" was sold from 2004 to 2011 and was in stable demand. At the end of 2016, at secondary market our country, this sedan can be purchased at a price of 120,000 rubles, while the cost of the most "fresh and packaged" modifications exceeds 350,000 rubles.

The list of standard equipment of the car includes: a pair of front airbags, power steering, air conditioning, power windows for four doors, fabric trim, central lock, standard immobilizer, audio preparation and some other items.

Design

The appearance of the car is rather outdated by modern standards, but still looks good against the background of competitors in the aftermarket. The front of the sedan received a relief hood. On the side, the model has a smooth line extending from rear light to the front. Conventional beveled arches have 14 wheels. The doors are decorated with chrome molding, and the turn signal is duplicated on the front arch.

The rear is simple, with a low spoiler lip on the boot lid. The optics are quite simple, and the massive bumper is also not distinguished by any elements.

  2. The next engine has a volume of 1.8 liters and produces 126 forces. Unfortunately, nothing is known about the dynamic performance of this unit, since it was not supplied to our country. Known maximum speed equal to 196 km / h and the combined cycle consumption is equal to 10 liters.
  3. The last engine is a 2-liter unit with a capacity of 140 forces. For some reason, it accelerates the car slower than the weakest one. The KIA Spectra engine takes 12.2 seconds for the sedan to reach the first hundred, and the top speed will be only 175 km / h. Combined consumption is just over 9 liters.

All motors are offered in tandem with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Regardless of the engine and gearbox, the car will always have front-wheel drive... The gearbox travel is very large, and the clutch pedal is pressed just lightly. It is difficult to say whether this is a plus or a minus, decide for yourself. The settings of the units are incomprehensible, it shows itself well on high revs, but gives a very sharp pickup at 4000 thousand, and this thrust could be tried to be distributed over the entire range.

The suspension of the model works separately, the driver with active driving will have the feeling that the rear part cannot keep up with the muzzle. I am glad that with sharp turns there are no strong rolls, and with a quiet ride, the car rides smoothly. Also, on rough roads, the undercarriage makes very terrible and frightening sounds. The brakes are completely disc and there were no complaints from the owners against them.

Interior


The salon is not very roomy, but only people of large build will complain about the defect. On the driver's door there are buttons for all power windows and a button for blocking these power windows. There is also a lever on the opening handle that locks all doors.

The driver of the KIA Spectra receives a 4-spoke steering wheel, behind which is the usual dashboard with on-board computer... The center console is also simple, it has a couple of buttons on top, a radio tape recorder and a selector for the stove and air conditioner, there is also a niche for small things and an ashtray. The entire center console may not be made of plastic, but of wood, but this depends on the configuration.


Under the gearshift lever, the engineers placed two cupholders and an armrest into which you can fold something. Rear passengers do not get anything except power windows, and that is not in every configuration.

The luggage compartment is acceptable for a family car, its volume is 440 liters, but you can fold the rear row of seats and get 1125 liters. As a result, I would like to say that the manufacturer saved a lot in the cabin, hard plastic and self-tapping screws in a conspicuous place spoil the impression of the KIA Spectra. You will not find much difference with AvtoVAZ.

The spectrum has never let me down, it would calmly start at minus 30, if the battery is good and oil. On the body there is not a single hint of corrosion, I will wash it, and it is like new. On the track it keeps the road well, low center of gravity, wide base. Spare parts like on VAZ, only the quality is better, the radiator costs 1200 rubles.
