For the first time, the seven-seater Chevrolet Orlando, which is a mixture of a compact van and a crossover, debuted at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Three years later, he experienced his first and so far only restyling, as a result of which there were some changes in his exterior. Cardinal changes in appearance the "American" did not happen, but, nevertheless, he began to look better than before. Linger on Russian market this, alas, did not help, because in 2015, amid the economic crisis, General Motors was forced to remove almost everything from Russia Chevrolet models and leave only expensive cars, and of course, Orlando was among the “cleaned up” ones. Find this model in the warehouses of Chevrolet dealers is still real, so details about it will not be superfluous. Read about everything you need to know about the restyled Orlando in our review!

Design

They say that appearance is not the main thing. Maybe, maybe ... Those who agree with this statement will surely like the Orlando of 2013, because in its essence it is a very practical car. And for those who first judge by the cover, the mix of a compact van and a crossover runs the risk of not liking it, because today, when the second decade of the 21st century is gradually coming to an end, it looks frankly outdated. In a word, "brick".

In the course of restyling in 2013, the model changed the exterior mirrors ("turn signals" appeared in them) and front bumper... In addition, the color scheme of the body has expanded and the pattern of optional rims has been changed. This is where all external innovations end. Of the so-called off-road attributes, Orlando has black plastic trims that cover the bumpers, wheel arches and door sills. Such pads reliably protect the body paintwork from rubble and sand flying out from under the wheels - for example, if you have to drive on a summer cottage primer.

Design

The car is based on General Motors' lightweight platform called Delta II. On the basis of a similar design, Chevrolet cruze and Opel astra(pictured), but of them Cruze is naturally closer to Orlando, since it, unlike Astra, rear suspension also semi-dependent without Watt's mechanism. At the same time, the distance between the axles of the wheels of the Orlando is greater than that of the Cruze: 2.76 m versus 2.685 m. The front and rear tracks of the Chevrolet family five-door are 1584 and 1588 mm, and for the Cruze - 1544 and 1558 mm, respectively. As for the suspension attachment points, their geometry, as well as the Orlando dampers and springs, they are, of course, original. Front-wheel drive in any configuration.

Adaptation to Russian conditions

The car is not specially prepared for the Russian road realities. There is no four-wheel drive in any of the trim levels, and the ground clearance is modest - only 165 mm, which makes the Orlando an absolutely urban option. You need to pay extra for a spare wheel, air conditioning or climate control, and from the heaters, only side mirrors, 1st row seats and rear window... The warranty is quite standard: two years without any mileage limitation, or three years with a mileage limitation of 100 thousand kilometers + a 6-year guarantee against perforating corrosion. But since 2013, Orlando has a high-torque two-liter turbodiesel, and it also boasts a very roomy trunk: if loaded up to the window line, its volume is 852 liters, and up to the roof line - as much as 1487 liters.

Comfort

Orlando seven-seater (or five-seater with an arshin luggage compartment) - with the "family" design, which is found in most Chevrolet Korean assembly... On the front panel there is a combination of dark, light and shiny plastic, and on the center console - glossy black plastic "piano lacquer". The uncomplicated instrument panel has a branded turquoise backlight. Air duct deflectors, round, 3-spoke wheel, large keys and "knobs" of the climate control system - all these are different elements of many well-known Chevrolet in Russia. It is immediately clear that the family Orlando borrowed from the Cruze not only the "cart" ... In the version with light leather trim, the interior looks as advantageous and friendly as possible - however, it should be borne in mind that after a certain time, his "lordship" will fade and the interior will be asked to be hanged ... You cannot scold Chevrolet for this, because such a problem is typical for all light interiors.

There are complaints about the seats. Firstly, the profile of the 1st row seats, obviously, was created with the expectation of too thin drivers, otherwise it would not push everyone who is larger a little forward in the area of the shoulder blades. Secondly, the front seats have insufficiently developed lateral support - during sharp turns with its duties, it does not cope as well as we would like. Thirdly, the folding armrest of the driver's seat is too short, which is why the right elbow constantly slips off. And most of all, Chevrolet made a mistake with the "registration" of the lever, which is responsible for adjusting the inclination of the back of the seat. It is pushed in so far that it is almost impossible to grope it from behind. For all their ergonomic miscalculations, the front seats delight with a wide range of adjustments, like the steering column, which makes landing in the driver's seat more or less comfortable, unless, of course, we are not talking about riders under 2 meters tall. Still, there is no more legroom for tall drivers than in the "donor" four-door Cruze.

In the safety rating of the authoritative European organization Euro NCAP, Orlando earned 5 stars out of 5, gaining 80 points out of 100. Euro NCAP experts rated the protection of a driver and an adult passenger at 95%, a child-passenger - at 79%, pedestrians - at 49%, and electronic assistants received 71%. In a side impact crash test and in a dummy test of an 18 month old baby, the car managed to score the maximum points, thus demonstrating true reliability. The standard equipment, which is not poor at all, helped to successfully pass the crash tests, which includes 6 airbags, a tire pressure indicator, anti-lock braking (ABS) and traction control (TCS) systems, as well as stabilization systems (ESC), emergency braking (BAS) and emergency disconnection pedal assembly (PRS). Orlando's additional options include circular parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, cruise control and a rearview camera.

A full-fledged media system will adorn the center console for an additional fee. The optional multimedia complex consists of a 7-inch color touch screen, CD / MP3 radio with 6 speakers, AUX / USB connectors and Bluetooth for connection mobile devices, steering wheel control buttons, rear view camera and navigation. The image from the camera is clear enough, and the sound, graphics and system performance are quite acceptable.

Chevrolet Orlando Specifications

Orlando engine range, which initially included only gasoline "fours" of 1.8 and 1.4 liters. (141 hp / 176 Nm and 140 hp / 200 Nm, respectively), in 2013 it was replenished with a high-torque two-liter turbodiesel, presented in two power options - 130 and 163 hp. (315 Nm / 360 Nm) Each of the engines meets the Euro-5 eco-standard and is combined with a "mechanic" or with an automatic transmission. According to the manufacturer, gasoline modifications consume from 6.4 to 8 liters. fuel per 100 km, and diesel - almost a liter less.

Orlando has been traveling on our roads for more than two years, delighting many motorists with its driving performance, but today we will talk about the 2019 Chevrolet Orlando, which received a new body. My car is something sunk into my soul and I decided to review its capabilities and characteristics.

Alloy looks great alloy wheels 17 inches, new direction indicators on the side mirrors, more complex wheel arches. The swiftness and dynamism of the car's profile is given by the high sill line extending sharply upward, which is duplicated by the clear edges of the stampings located on both sides of the Chevrolet.

Back in the photo updated Chevrolet Orlando 2019, you can see the large corner lamps "cut" into two-thirds by the trunk, as well as a strongly protruding massive bumper. Anyone who already owns a minivan will agree that the updates turned out to be good. The car has become much more attractive.

Freedom in the interior

The seven-seater car can easily accommodate not only seven passengers, but also small luggage. The luggage compartment itself takes only 89 liters, however, if the second and third row seats are folded, this space can easily be increased to almost 1,500 liters. Moreover, the seats are folded both individually and all together.

The ergonomics of the dashboard have changed. Now the devices are located on it more compactly and conveniently. The buttons and controls for the audio system are located on the steering wheel. The three-spoke steering wheel itself has acquired a sporty shape and a comfortable grip.

The shape of the measuring devices has changed a bit. It has more irregular lines and curves. The blue ice interior lighting looks great. As for the equipment of the 2019 2020 Chevrolet Orlando, the main focus was on safety. To this end, the car was equipped with modern systems, as well as side, front airbags and curtain airbags. Available:

  • ABS system;
  • emergency braking system;
  • hydraulic braking support system;
  • adjustable steering column;

Disadvantages and advantages of Orlando

Many owners of the new 2019 Chevrolet Orlando 2019 are unanimous in the opinion that the unconditional advantages of the car are:

  1. Roomy and spacious interior.
  2. Opportunity to accommodate a large company of 7 people.
  3. A relatively affordable price for many, which is quite consistent with the quality.
  4. Excellent economy.
  5. High dynamics, good handling, road stability.

Still, there were some drawbacks. Among them are:

  1. Low level of noise isolation.
  2. Sufficiently stiff suspension.
  3. Not too high-spirited engine.
Competitors are not inferior

In the segment of family cars, one can also highlight Opel Zafiru and Toyota Verso. The first competitor of the 2019 Chevrolet Orlando has an attractive, modern design, which is perfectly complemented by large slanting headlights, petal-shaped fog lights, a beautiful, stylish radiator grill.

The equipment of the car is modern. In the presence of an ABS system, exchange rate stability, airbags. The cabin is quite spacious. The dashboard features large control options windows. The center console pleases with its ergonomics, as well as a large screen of the on-board computer.

Toyota Verso looks extravagant, original and unusual. The front part resembles a squinted predatory fish. This image is created by sweeping triangular headlights, a V-shaped radiator grill with a fairly sharp angle, as well as a huge "mouth" of the air intake. Toyota's interior has undergone radical changes. Changed the color of the interior lighting. Now it has changed from orange to icy white. The exterior is complemented by black decorative inserts that frame the color touchscreen.

From modern equipment, there is a security system, seat belts with pretensioners, a panoramic sunroof, climate-cruise control, electric mirrors, a navigation system. The technical indicators of both competitors are given in the table below.

Automobile Engine, l / h.p. Consumption, l / 100 km Acceleration, s Transmission price, rub.
Opel Zafira 2,0/170 7,6 11,5-12,9 5 manual transmission From 722,000 to 850,000
Toyota Verso 1,6/132 6,8 11,7 6 manual transmission From 851,000 to 1,125,000
1,8/147 7,1 10,4 6 manual transmission

New chevrolet The 2018 Orlando will only be the second generation of this vehicle. For several years now, its predecessor has been successfully traveling on our roads and pleases people with large families with its spaciousness. The last generation of the car showed good driving performance and it was also quite comfortable and convenient.

New body Chevrolet Orlando 2018 got a completely different look. Almost every detail has changed for him. Yes, the old design is guessed, but now it has become much more stylish, even somewhat aggressive, not like many family minivans.

The front part is also decorated with a rather large radiator grill, which divides part of the body into two halves. It is on this part that the brand name of the company is located. The sharper front lights are now LED-filled and are now positioned closer to the center of the bumper.

The small air intake in the lower part was redesigned, giving it a strictly rectangular shape, and it ends with somewhat rounded elements, inside which a thin strip of fog lights was placed.

Together with all this, a pronounced relief appeared at the front. The body then sinks, then heaves outward, taking on various forms.

On the side, the arches of the wheels began to stick out even more strongly from the main body of the body, from semicircles turned into almost squares. If earlier the doors themselves were slightly convex, now they are so straight that you can apply a level. The mirrors have grown somewhat, and also acquired repeaters for turning lights. The size of the glasses has decreased slightly, but the pseudo-resistant ones have become wider. Discs remind bigger wheel sports car, and not an ordinary family car in everyday life.

Behind new model everything also has a sheer bumper, but with minor changes. The lights have become rectangular and do not creep into the tailgate anymore. The bumper itself dropped a little, because of which the car became somewhat more aggressive. If earlier the exhaust pipes were hidden under the bottom, now they are located right in the bumper.

In general, the car has significantly improved its appearance and has turned from an ordinary inconspicuous car into a stylish and presentable car.

Salon

Restyling Orlando 2018 did not pass by the side and the interior equipment. The photo shows that here, too, the car has noticeably increased. Yes, he is not replete with rich materials, because he does not need it. Fabric and plastic are used in the decoration, sometimes you can see the chrome edging and leather inserts.

The center console is strongly elongated upward, and at the very top there is a small multimedia display for controlling all kinds of functionality of the model, which is surrounded by many functions and wide vents. The gear knob was placed a little lower in order to free up as much space as possible for the armrest, which easily rises and turns, and another glove compartment.

The steering wheel looks simple. On it you can see several buttons that are responsible for the phone and audio system. But behind it was placed quite modern and stylish instrument cluster... On the right and left are the speedometer and tachometer large sizes which are beautifully highlighted in blue. In the center you can see the on-board computer, and a little higher - additional instruments displaying the amount of fuel and other important indicators.

Much has been done here for greater passenger comfort. The front row has many settings and adjustments, as well as heating, even in the basic version. The finishing materials are pleasant, not slippery, which is very important in the absence of lateral support. In total, the car is designed for seven passengers.

Luggage compartment small - only 90 liters, but you can always fold the two rear rows, moreover, any of the seats is lowered independently of the others. Thus, you can get up to one and a half thousand liters of free space.

Specifications

The new Chevrolet Orlando will be equipped with one of two possible engines with the following characteristics: 1.8 liters, with a power of 141 horsepower, or 2 liters, already developing 163 horsepower... Both motors can be either with a manual transmission for six modes, or with an automatic transmission for five. Fuel consumption will be 5.7 and 6 liters, respectively.

It should be noted right away that such motors are not at all enough to easily overclock this car... After all, its weight is not so small. Therefore, there may be some problems on the track. In the city, a very stiff suspension with a small stroke, which responds perfectly to all the flaws of our roads, will disappoint a little. Not everyone will also like the weak soundproofing, because of which the roar of the engine trying to pull this giant out will be heard throughout the cabin.

Options and prices

Chevrolet will provide three trim levels for its new product. Basic - LS, will receive anti-lock braking system, a system for emergency braking, several more systems to improve braking and control, all kinds of safety systems in the form of belts and airbags, several parking sensors, as well as an electric power steering. The price of this version is 1.26 million rubles.

The next modification is LT... It already additionally includes stabilization and stability systems, several more safety systems and fog lights. For this version you will need to pay 1.3 million rubles.

The latter is the top-end equipment of the LTZ, includes improved cruise control, rain and light sensors, automatic open and close side mirrors, and a full range of driving assistance and safety systems. This pleasure is worth 1.41 million rubles.

Release date in Russia

The start of sales in Russia is planned to begin in the first months of the new year. Then it will be possible to conduct a test drive of the model in any of official salons.

Competitors

The car has two main competitors - Opel Zafira and Toyota Verso. If the design of the first one does not reach the level of Orlando, then the second one will even surpass it. But there is practically no difference in equipment. Unless competitors have to pay a little more to get about the same set of functions. For example, Toyota's engine is slightly weaker, but it is able to pull the car a little faster, spending even less fuel both in the city and on the highway. At Opel, the situation with dynamics practically does not differ from Chevrolet. So, you will have to choose, focusing on personal preferences or reviews from acquaintances or friends.

The Chevrolet Orlando debuted at the 2010 International Paris Motor Show. Relevant at the moment is the first restyling of the car, which was released in 2013. The novelty is rather difficult to distinguish from its predecessor, because outwardly global changes in the appearance of the car did not occur. First of all, we can notice the new side rear-view mirrors, from now on, turn signal repeaters flaunt on them, this will make the car more noticeable. Also, the front bumper has undergone minor changes, one new position has been added to the color palette and the design of the optional alloy brake discs has been changed.

This is not to say that the Chevrolet Orlando looks outdated, despite the fact that its appearance has not undergone significant changes. In general, the car looks quite interesting, primarily due to its origin, it is a mixture of a compact van and a crossover. It has a large roomy body with three rows of seats, but at the same time, some off-road attributes. For example, black unpainted plastic lining on bumpers, sills and wheel arches. They are designed to protect paintwork a car from rubble and sand flying from under the wheels, in the event that you decide to ride on a dirt road.

Chevrolet Orlando Dimensions

If we talk about size, then new chevrolet Orlando has not undergone any changes, it overall characteristics remained the same: length 4652 mm, width 1836 mm, height 1633 mm, wheelbase 2760 mm, and the size ground clearance will be 165 mm. The car will perform well in urban areas, curbs and potholes will not care for him, but on treacherous rough terrain, the driver should be very careful not to damage the precious units and the body of the car.

The size of the trunk of the Chevrolet Orlando can only please, with the backrests of the third row of seats up, only 89 liters of usable space remain in the back. But if you do not plan to take on board seven people, then the third row will not be needed, it can be folded, then as much as 466 liters of empty space will be freed up for any of your needs. In addition, it is worth noting that the seats fold down into a completely flat floor. If, on a whim of fate, you have to transport something very large, then you can remove the second row, and in this case, you will have 1487 liters of usable space at your disposal, this is a truly impressive result, it is comparable to the performance of some small commercial vehicles.

Chevrolet Orlando engine and transmission

Chevrolet Orlando is equipped with two engines and two variable transmissions. There are few options, but they all meet most of the needs of a potential buyer and are able to reveal all aspects of this multifaceted car. It will suit both lovers of quiet and economical driving and fans of high speeds.

  • The base engine of the Chevrolet Orlando is a naturally aspirated gasoline four with a volume of 1796 cubic centimeters. Thanks to the solid size of the combustion chambers, the power unit develops good power, namely 141 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 176 Nm of torque at 3800 rpm crankshaft per minute. Such an engine allows the compact van to accelerate to a speed of one hundred kilometers per hour in 11.6 seconds with a five-speed mechanical box variable gears and in 11.8 seconds automatic transmission... The maximum speed will be 185 kilometers per hour in both versions. Despite the good dynamic performance, the power unit does not differ in gluttony, the Chevrolet Orlando equipped with a manual variable transmission will consume 9.7 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers at a city pace with frequent acceleration and braking, 5.9 liters during a measured trip in the countryside. highway and 7.3 liters of fuel per hundred in the combined cycle. For a car with an automatic transmission, these figures are: 11.2 liters, 6 liters and 7.9 liters of fuel per hundred, respectively.
  • The Chevrolet Orlando also has a more powerful engine, a 1998 cc in-line turbocharged four on heavy fuel. Thanks to the large volume and the use of compressed air in the process of fuel combustion, the power unit develops a solid power, or more precisely, 163 horsepower at 3800 rpm and 360 Nm of torque at 2000 crankshaft revolutions per minute. Thanks to a solid herd under the hood, the car demonstrates good dynamic characteristics: acceleration to a hundred will take 11 seconds, and maximum speed will be 195 kilometers per hour. Diesel Engines are renowned for their excellent torque at low crankshaft speeds and low fuel consumption. This powertrain is no exception, the Chevrolet Orlando will consume 9.3 liters diesel fuel for a hundred kilometers at a city pace with frequent acceleration and braking, 5.7 liters during a leisurely trip on a suburban highway and 7 liters of fuel per hundred in a combined driving cycle. It is worth noting that the compact MPV is equipped exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission of variable transmissions.

Equipment

Chevrolet Orlando has a rich technical filling, inside you will find a lot of useful devices and ingenious systems designed to make your trip comfortable, interesting, and most importantly, safe. So, the car is equipped with: six airbags, standard parking sensors, a rear view camera, climate control, multifunction on-board computer, light and rain sensors, full power accessories, heated seats, glass and side mirrors, a seat lift, a tire pressure sensor, cruise control, leather interior, a standard navigation system and even a blind spot monitoring system.

Outcome

Chevrolet Orlando keeps up with the times, the compact van has a modern and pleasant design. Due to its unusual outward appearance, such a car will not merge with the gray everyday stream and will not get lost in the parking lot of a large shopping center. Salon is the kingdom of space and comfort. You will be able to take on board up to 7 passengers and be sure that even a long trip will not give you or them the slightest discomfort. The developer paid special attention to ergonomics, all necessary elements will always be at your fingertips, and the controls will be polished and clear at an intuitive level. Inside you will find a lot of useful devices and technical innovations designed to make it easier to use the car and not let you get bored on the road. The American manufacturer is well aware that a car is not a toy, which is why a modern and powerful power unit is located under the hood, which is a fusion of innovative technologies and many years of experience in the field of engine building. Chevrolet Orlando will serve you for long kilometers and will give you unforgettable driving emotions.

Video

Moreover, nowadays they are trying to make off-road vehicles from such cars that, at first glance, are not suitable for this at all! Chevrolet went even further, pouring two products into one bottle at once - a compact MPV and a crossover.

Chopped shapes, an impressive pediment with large headlights, a protective plastic perimeter and even lining a la aluminum protection under the bumpers - Orlando really has enough attributes to match the role of an off-road vehicle. Moreover, "Chevy" also seduces with a 7-seater salon, the back row of which looks quite full in order to take into its arms not only delinquent teenagers.

Add to this a loud surname and a sonorous memorable name, received in honor of a sunny resort in Florida; finally appreciate the attractive price ... Now you understand why "Orlando" is more and more common on our roads? For three months of sales, this car sold 1949 copies - a very impressive number, even by the standards of crossovers! And among the vans "Chevy" is the best.

What is the price?

You won't have to look for the reason for the popularity of Orlando for a long time - just look at the price tag: an impressive compact MPV with a 7-seater saloon starts at 719,000 rubles. Total! At the same time, you will not find a catch in the equipment of the basic version - at least at first glance: there is a full power accessories, a radio tape recorder, a quartet of airbags, central locking and heated front seats. There are even such nice little things as a rear armrest with cup holders and an eyeglass case! But the cheapest car does not have an air conditioner. It can be ordered separately, but it costs decently - 36,000 rubles.

And here it already becomes clear that if you buy Orlando not for the last money, then the LS version will be much more profitable.

Firstly, it has an air conditioner. Secondly, the remaining 45,000 goes to burglar alarms, fog lights and a range of interior improvements, as well as the much-needed window airbags, ESP and belt pretensioners for the family car. And finally, thirdly: LS is the most available equipment, which can be supplemented with an automatic transmission.

Whether it is worth stopping at this or preferring the third version of LS + is up to you. In principle, a 20,000 surcharge for alloy wheels, climate control, USB connector and an audio system improved by tweeters seems quite adequate. Happen to me to choose "Orlando" as vehicle for my family, I would take just such an option.

But LT, which is sold exclusively with automatic transmission at a price of 899,000 rubles, no longer contains anything that a buyer of a budget van could not do without. Really useful options it should be admitted except that the rear parking sensors and electric folding mirrors. However, you will not be able to get these benefits separately: all configurations are rigidly fixed.

Nevertheless, within 700-900 thousand, you cannot find another 7-seater car that would combine the advantages of a van and a crossover. An alternative to Orlando in terms of functionality can be considered only off-road vehicles of various calibers, the prices of which are 1.2-1.7 million. Cross-Turan "or" Nissan-Grand-Livina ", which we have never sold.

And among the purebred vans, the closest in price is only "Zafira-Family" (from 784,900 rubles). But this is a seven-year-old model, which, moreover, does not look like a crossover at all.

So it turns out that Orlando found itself in a market segment where there is no one else besides it. So his lot is to cut coupons. It is gratifying that it is not only the price that helps to engage in such a pleasant activity of Chevy.

Outside and inside

At first glance, it is noticeable that Orlando is not trying to seem extravagant and sophisticated. Chopped forms and dumpy posture - that's his style! Such a design may be unconditionally liked or, on the contrary, cause persistent rejection, but it is unlikely that anyone will remain indifferent.

You don't need to look closely at the Chevrolet for a long time to find such advantages as a high roof, wide doors, thresholds that are pretty far from the ground and practical overlays made of unpainted plastic in its appearance. And from the stern, the car can really be mistaken for a crossover! In addition, it is clearly visible that the "Orlando" has bumpers suspended high enough, so that when parking near high curbs, you can not be especially careful. In general, appearance is a clear plus of the car.

But inside, the crossover essence does not give itself away: this is a typical large station wagon with a tall ceiling. As befits a representative of the "bus" family, the interior of the "Orlando" is light and airy. On the second row, space reigns: there is enough space in width for three adults. For a more comfortable fit, the back of the sofa can be tilted. There is enough room for legs: only the passenger whose height exceeds 190 cm will be propped up by the front seat - and even then, provided that an equally significant individual is seated in front of him.

The third row can also be called full-fledged: 91 cm separates the pillow from the ceiling - by the way, this is more than on the sofa of the Solaris sedan, which is so popular in our country. The minimum distance to the back of the sofa is 0.6 m - perhaps the best indicator among compact van! In addition, if you put the back front seat a little more vertical, you can free up another 4 cm of legroom.

However, if from the point of view of roominess "Orlando" can be considered almost the best of the compact van, then according to the level of outdoor service it is nothing more than good: tables in the backs of the seats, hiding places in the floor, removable chairs - all this is not about "Chevy" ... However, the designers did not forget to equip it with the obligatory attributes of family cars: Orlando has a lot of cup holders, comfortable armrests, hooks for clothes and even 12-volt sockets on all three rows of seats.

Loading suitcases

As you might guess, in the struggle for space in the cabin, the trunk first of all suffered: behind the backs of the third row, only a couple of small handbags can fit. However, a similar sin is found behind many 7-seater cars.

But if at least one of the six seats is folded into the floor (for this, it is enough to pull the gripping handle on the back), Orlando will provide a hold comparable in volume to the trunk of a conventional golf-class hatchback. Unless, for a more reliable fastening of loads, you will have to buy rigging nets: there was no room for them in the staffing table.

It is logical that as the number of passengers decreases, the trunk will increase in useful volume. And if in the standard 5-seater configuration the car provides 466 liters of luggage, then folding both rows of seats, we get an almost 1.5-cc van.

Moreover, at the beginning of next year, the cargo capacity of the car will be even more obvious: a version with a folding back of the right front seat will enter the market, in which it will be possible to carry long vehicles up to 2.7 m in length.

The only pity is that the engineers placed the boot curtain too low: large suitcases will hide under it only flat. In addition, the high threshold of the hold is also a disadvantage.

Behind the wheel

Again, compact vans, like crossovers, often captivate with a high seating position at the wheel. Orlando is no exception. Drivers who prefer to sit at the very top will certainly appreciate the large (within seven centimeters) range of seat height adjustment. Steering column has full set adjustments; and the handlebar itself of the optimal diameter is rich in comfortable tides in the grip area. In general, a person of any height and build can comfortably get a job at the Chevy.

True, the overall ergonomics of the Orlando are still not perfect. "Mechanics" makes you get used to long lever strokes; and when manipulating the joystick for adjusting the mirrors, which has a vertical orientation, you have to bend your hand unnaturally. Like many other vans, Orlando has a large glass area, but even significant objects can go unnoticed behind the high sill line.

Finally, the most obvious ergonomic miscalculation should be recognized as the too tricky algorithm for controlling the on-board computer: information that can be obtained on many cars with a couple of clicks on a single button, in Orlando you get by rotating the wheel and stomping the keys located on the right steering column lever ... And if the situation with fuel consumption or power reserve is even more or less clear, then for the interpretation of inscriptions like "Unit set" or "Code" you have to refer to the operating instructions, which explains that it turns out that we are talking about units of measurement or faults in different systems.

On the roads ...

The 1.8-liter engine, with variable valve timing and variable intake tract length, produces 141 forces. With this knowledge, I expected excellent dynamics from Orlando. But I was deceived: the engine is lucky with obvious strain and perhaps stalls under thrust at low revs! Meanwhile, the engine must be lively: "Zafira" with exactly the same engine goes much more fun!

Only after 2500 rpm does the engine wake up, and when the tachometer needle passes the four thousandth mark, it demonstrates the ability to quickly gain momentum. And yet "Orlando" allows nimbleness only in those cases when there is no one else in the car except the driver. At full load and with the climate control turned on during acceleration, it is intolerable to sleep. And this is on the "hand"!

And how do modifications with a 6-speed "automatic" behave? The box shifts smoothly and insinuatingly, but for automatic convenience you will have to pay with temperament, accustoming yourself to drive extremely slowly. The automatic transmission, in its striving to please the ecology, tries not to burn excess gasoline, does not allow to get carried away with high revs. Trying to stir up the Orlando runs the risk of throwing the box out of balance. And when it does happen, you will hardly be able to adapt to the randomness of switching. Unless shifting the transmission selector to manual mode, you can achieve at least some understanding. True, do not blame me if the salon is filled with a rumble: on high revs the motor is not shy about howling.

But "Orlando" drives very well. The car always follows the given direction exactly and pleases with small rolls. And only at speed in corners with uneven surfaces it becomes noticeable how the rear axle strives to jump off the trajectory. The suspension preserves in any case optimal balance between comfort and energy intensity. On small irregularities, the "Chevy" seemed slightly harsh, and on the tiles framing tram rails, showed an amazing softness of the step. But even very serious potholes are not able to force the van to cross the border of comfort: sometimes it even comes to the point that on seriously broken country highways you start to drive according to the principle “more speed, fewer holes”: the car is very condescending to such barbarism.

... and without them

However, you shouldn't abuse the all-forgiving suspension. Chassis "Orlando" though strengthened taking into account the considerable "bus" weight, it is still borrowed from the passenger "Cruise" and in no case is designed for merciless operation in harsh conditions.

And yet, by the standards of a van on a primer, Orlando demonstrates decent endurance. From the ground to the steel crankcase, I measured 16 cm. The sills are raised another 4 cm higher, and the muffler and suspension parts are firmly pulled to the bottom. Eh, the Chevy would also have four-wheel drive... But no: only the front wheels can drive it. So on the off-road, the dispute with real crossovers "Orlando" will lose. But against the background of competitors in a class like "Mazda-5" or "Citroen-Grand-C4-Picasso" our "crusader" looks good.

Security

The Euro NCAP "Orlando" crash tests were excellent. The car scored 34.4 points, which earned the maximum possible 5 stars. This high result is explained by the fact that the Chevrolet is good at withstanding side impact, and this test is carried out exclusively with the presence of window cushions. In Russia, as we have already said, they appear only in the LS version simultaneously with the dynamic stabilization system and seat belt pretensioners - the latter reduce the risk of chest injury.

For the transportation of children, you can use both ordinary armchairs and those that use isofix mounts - the corresponding loops are provided on the sofa. By the way, already in basic configuration Orlando allows you to deactivate the right front airbag: this is a necessary measure for installing a child seat with the backrest facing forward.

Operation, service

The factory warranty for Chevrolet is three years and 100 thousand kilometers. At the same time, in the first year of operation, you will receive claims for all components and parts, with the exception of consumables (wiper blades, brake pads, clutch disc lining, etc.). In the second year, some restrictions already appear: in particular, you may be denied a free replacement of shock absorbers.
