The Japanese automaker Suzuki first introduced its Grand Vitara SUV to the world back in 1997. For more than 15 years of history, two generations of the model have changed. In addition, the car has been restyled twice. Of course, the car has gained well-deserved popularity among fans of Japanese SUVs. We invite you to "get acquainted" with this car better and consider for the Suzuki Grand Vitara technical specifications.

From the very beginning, the car was distinguished by a high ground clearance of 200 mm, unchanged until the current release, and was offered to the buyer in two body versions: three-door and five-door. In the first case, the capacity is 4 people, here in the second - 5. Let's consider each of them in more detail in the order of the issued period.

1st generation

3-door Grand Vitara

The model of the first generation with three doors, produced since 1998, was equipped for Russia with a 1.6 or 2.0 liter engine, designed for 92nd gasoline.

  • The first 1.6-liter 94 hp engine was capable of accelerating the car up to 100 km / h in 13.2 seconds and was running exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Fuel consumption in this case was 12 liters per 100 km in the city or 7 liters outside. Maximum speed was 150 km / h, and the curb weight was 1200 kg.
  • A car with a more powerful, 2-liter engine, it became possible to take it already with an automatic transmission in 4 steps. It developed a power of 128 hp, provided acceleration to 100 km / h in 11.4 seconds, consumed 12.5 liters in urban conditions or 8.5 liters on the highway. The curb weight of this configuration was 1260 or 1300 kg, depending on the gearbox. The maximum developed speed is 160 km / h.

The length of the first generation "three doors" was 3810 mm (3935 mm with a spare wheel attached to back door), width - 1700 mm, and height - 1690 mm. The wheelbase was 2200 mm, the front and rear wheel track was 1460 mm wide, and the turning circle was 9 m.The trunk held 210 liters, increasing to 828 liters with the rear seats folded, the fuel tank - 56 liters.

Permanent drive went to the rear wheels with the ability to connect and front-wheel drive. Standard equipment included 215/65 tires on 16-inch wheels.

5-door Grand Vitara

For the five-door version, petrol engines of 1.6, 2.0 and 2.5 liters were provided. Each could be completed with both manual and automatic transmission gear.

  • The car with the smallest 94 hp engine. was able to pick up a speed of 100 km / h in 13.2 seconds, developed a speed of up to 150 km / h and consumed 12 liters of gasoline in the city and 7 on the highway. The weight of such an equipped car is 1310 kg.
  • Machine with a medium, two-liter engine with a capacity of 128 hp. accelerated to a hundred in 11.8 seconds, had a speed limit of 160 km / h, consumed 12.1 liters of fuel in the city or 8.9 liters outside of it. The modification weighed 1385 kg in running order.
  • The largest engine had a power of 144 hp, accelerated the car to 100 km / h in 10.9 seconds, while it required 12.1 liters of fuel in the city and 7.8 liters on the highway and allowed the car to accelerate to a maximum of 165 km / h. Such a curb vehicle had a mass of 1405 kg.

The length of such a five-door modification was 4215 mm, width - 1780 mm, height - 1740 mm, wheelbase 2480 mm. The trunk had a volume of 258 liters, expandable to 1080 liters. Capacity fuel tank- 66 l. The rest of the parameters were basically the same as those of the "three-door" of that time.

2nd generation

In 2005, the developers completely updated the model, which received the 2nd generation classification. Let us dwell in more detail on the technical characteristics of the Suzuki Grand Vitara, currently sold in car dealerships.

3-door Grand Vitara

Now the three-door SUV has found new parameters. Full length from the front bumper to the "spare" at the rear - 4060 mm, width without mirrors 1810 mm, height 1695 mm. The wheelbase is 2440 mm, the front track is 1540 mm, the rear track is 1570 mm. The luggage compartment has a minimum volume of 184 liters with the rear seat backs up; if they are folded, then the space will already increase to 516 liters; the maximum volume is 964 liters. The tires used are 225 / 70R16 or 225 / 65R17.

Engines on the three-door version are equipped with 1.6 or 2.4 liter petrol engines. The first is equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox, the second - with a 4-speed “automatic”. The main characteristics of both modifications:

  • The 1.6 petrol engine has a displacement of 1586 mm3, the maximum power is 106 hp. at 5900 rpm, torque - 145 N at 4100 rpm. Acceleration to 100 km / h takes 14.4 seconds, while the maximum speed is 160 km / h. Fuel consumption is 10.2 liters in the city, 7.1 liters on the highway or 8.2 liters in the combined cycle. The curb minimum weight of the car with this engine is 1407 kg, with all options - 1482 kg, while the total weight is 1830 kg.
  • The 2.4 engine has a displacement of 2393 mm3 and a power of 166 hp. at 6000 rpm, torque - 225 N at 3800 rpm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is 11.5 seconds, top speed is 170 km / h. Fuel consumption - 11.9 liters in the city, 8.0 liters on the highway or 9.4 liters in mixed mode. The curb minimum weight of the car with a 2.4-liter engine is 1461 kg, with all options - 1539 kg, full - 1890 kg.

5-door Grand Vitara

A car with a five-door body is longer - 4300 mm or 4500 mm, if you count from the front bumper to the rear "spare" in the cover, the wheelbase is 2640 mm. The minimum luggage capacity is 398 liters, with the backrest of the rear row seats raised, folding it will increase this figure to 758 liters, while the maximum volume that can be achieved is 1386 liters.

There are two options for equipping the "five-door" with engines: for 2.0 liters and for 2.4 liters, and each can be equipped with both manual gear shifting by 5 steps, and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The parameters of these configurations:

  • The working volume of the 2.0 liter engine is 1995 mm3. Maximum power 140 HP at 6000 rpm, torque 183 N at 4000 rpm. The car accelerates to 100 km / h in 12.5 seconds on manual gear shifting or in 13.6 seconds on “automatic” and develops a maximum speed of 175 km / h and 170 km / h, respectively. The engine consumes fuel in the amount of 10.6 liters in the city, 7.1 liters outside, or 8.4 liters in a combined cycle with a mechanical gearbox. The automatic will change these parameters to 11.2 liters, 7.5 liters and 8.9 liters. The curb weight of the car with mechanics is 1533 kg, the installation of all options will increase it to 1643 kg, the gross weight is 2070 kg. With an automatic transmission, these figures will be 1548 kg and 1658 kg (the total weight is the same).
  • The 2.4 l engine has a displacement of 2393 mm3. Maximum power 169 HP at 6000 rpm and 227 N at 3800 rpm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes 11.7 seconds on manual gear shifting and 12.0 seconds on automatic, top speed is 185 km / h and 175 km / h, respectively. This type of engine will require a fuel consumption of 11.4 liters in the city, 7.6 liters on the highway or 9.0 liters in the combined cycle in the configuration with manual gear shifting. Equipping with an automatic transmission will increase these indicators to 12.5 liters, 8.1 liters and 9.7 liters, respectively. The model equipped with a manual transmission has a curb weight of 1569 kg, the addition of options changes it to 1655 kg, and the gross weight is 2100 kg. Equipping with an automatic transmission means respectively 1584 kg and 1670 kg, the gross weight will remain the same.

History of the Suzuki Grand Vitara / Suzuki Grand Vitara

In the fall of 1997, Suzuki introduced the successor to the Vitara, the Grand Vitara. The sound prefix Grand, which in Latin means big, majestic, grandiose, great, obliged Suzuki specialists to create a car corresponding to the name.

The frame structure of the chassis and four-wheel drive with a plug-in front axle. The frame is made of steel beams, the cross members of which are positioned so that the maximum torsional rigidity is achieved without unnecessarily increasing the weight of the structure. Front - independent suspension with springs located separately from McPherson struts. The continuous rear axle has a spring suspension on trailing arms with a transverse bar. The front brakes have ventilated discs.

The design of Grand Vitara is dominated by smooth, rounded shapes, large lighting equipment and silver plastic "trim" around the circle stand out.

The interior blends harmoniously with external appearance... The interior trim is dominated by soft, calm colors, everything is done with high quality and soundly. Spare wheel placed on the side-opening tailgate without taking up space inside. The steering column is height adjustable. The rear seats can be folded down individually and the backrests can be folded out to form berths.

The powertrain range offers a choice of 4-cylinder petrol engines with electronic system injection volume of 1.6 and 2.0 liters and a capacity of 94 and 128 hp. respectively. Plus V-shaped 6-cylinder engine with a capacity of 2.5 liters and 144 hp. with multipoint fuel injection, two camshafts in each cylinder head and four valves per cylinder. Together with him, either manual five-speed gearbox transmissions, or a four-speed automatic.

The front axle can be connected at speeds up to 100 km / h, and to engage the lowering row in the transfer case, you must stop.

Steering tuning has found an acceptable balance between off-road power steering and feedback to feel confident in fast cornering.

Standard equipment includes: power steering, power windows, exterior mirrors, central locking, an acoustic panel with speakers, and a wide variety of compartments for small items. Plus two front airbags and belts with pyrotechnic pretensioners.

Optional equipment includes air conditioning, immobilizer and anti-lock braking system.

In 2000, the Grand Vitara appeared with an open body. It is based on a 3-door all-metal version without a rear roof section. This retained the rigid body structure and protected passengers in the event of a rollover.

The Grand Vitara had to compete with tough contenders such as the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. When sales began to fall, the company realized that they could finally lose the battle for the consumer, and set about developing the second generation of the model. It had to be designed almost from scratch, since, for example, the frame structure of the body has already become an anachronism in this segment, and a faceless or even just good design would mean a complete failure.

In 2005, the second generation Grand Vitara debuted.

Before its creation, Suzuki specialists listened to enthusiasts from all over the world who spoke about their requirements for a compact 4x4: design, spaciousness, equipment, technology, safety, and environmental impact. With all this in mind, and without departing from the traditions of the old Grand Vitara, the concern has created a new generation.

The car turned out to be very elegant, dynamic, solid and distinctive. In the exterior, you cannot find a single detail that would hint at its predecessor. The second generation with an integrated frame instead of a fashionable monocoque body, with permanent all-wheel drive, a range multiplier and a cross-axle differential lock. It is absolutely new car which is fundamentally different from old model Grand Vitara.

The new Grand Vitara is available in two body styles: a three- and five-door SUV. The five-door version features a massive C-pillar, which is continued by large taillights - a striking and memorable solution. The gas tank cap is round and can only be opened from the passenger compartment.

The previous model was distinguished by rounded shapes, while the novelty acquired clear lines. Only the bottom of the bumper protrudes slightly, thus highlighting the spectacular fog lights. Above them are large headlights, under a transparent cover of which are hidden reflectors of the low and high beam. A strip of direction indicators runs along the bottom (xenon headlights can be installed as an option). Between the headlights is an impressively sized mesh grille. The rear of the hood near the windshield pillars is decorated with small plastic air vents - a purely decorative technique.

Flared wheel arches add aggressiveness to the new Grand Vitara. The previous version had plastic arches and wide plastic protection around the perimeter. Now the wheel arches are an extension of the fenders. But the protection at the bottom of the doors was left. However, it is almost invisible, since the plastic was painted in body color. The fifth door is hinged type, equipped with a wiper and a third brake light. It also houses a spare wheel with a plastic casing. Rounding out the look of the Grand Vitara are 16 inch light-alloy wheel disks with a striking five-spoke design (17 inch wheels are available as an option).

The dimensions have also changed. So, the 5-door version added 255 mm in length and 30 mm in width. At the same time, the height decreased by 45 mm, which was achieved, in particular, by implanting the frame directly into the body. Moreover, the vehicle's ground clearance remained unchanged - 200 mm. The wheelbase has grown by 160 mm and now reaches 2640 mm, and the track of the front and rear wheels has increased by 40 and 70 mm, respectively. Thanks to this, it has become much more spacious in the cabin.

Everything inside is new. The interior has noticeably freshened up, the ergonomics have significantly improved. The first thing that catches your eye is the decent quality of finishing materials. And also an unobtrusive but obvious desire of designers to emphasize the sportiness of the model. The seats are geometrically designed with ribbed materials that are pleasing to the eye and to the touch. Plastic inserts for aluminum give some lightness to the front panel and the entire cabin as a whole. The welcoming driver's seat has only three adjustments: longitudinal movement, backrest tilt and height adjustment. The steering column is also adjustable, however, only in tilt angle. Wheel- three-spoke with audio control buttons placed on it: switching modes, volume, switching stations / tracks and turning off the sound.

On the horizontal armrest of the driver's door, there is a control unit for the electric windows of all doors and the electric drives for the outside rear-view mirrors. To the left of the steering wheel, under a round ventilation deflector, there is a block that includes a rotating selector for the headlight hydro-corrector, a fog lamp switch and a backlight control button dashboard.

Under the visor of the instrument panel, right in front of the eyes, there are three separate round windows. The central, largest window is occupied by a speedometer marked up to 200 km / h, inside it there are several pictograms and an odometer liquid crystal display, a tachometer marked up to 8000 rpm on the left, and a gear indicator on the right, indicators of the fuel level in the tank and the temperature of the cooling liquids. The backlight is carried out using optitronic technology: it turns on when the ignition is turned on and goes out only after it is turned off, or forcibly with the button located to the left of the steering wheel. In general, the theme of the circle prevails in the interior decoration of the Grand Vitara - the ventilation deflectors, the rim around the automatic transmission lever, the climate control buttons are all round.

The center console is quite massive, but everything on it is organized quite logically. In the upper part there is a small electronic display, which displays the data of the on-board computer and thermometer. Below is an audio system with a CD player. Under it is the climatic unit and the joystick for controlling the all-wheel drive transmission. That is, Grand Vitara, unlike its predecessor, has lost the demultiplier lever - its functions are assigned to this switch, which has several positions: "N" allows you to use the winch, "4H" - four-wheel drive and overdrive, "4H LOCK" - four-wheel drive and overdrive, cross-axle differential locked, "4L LOCK" - all-wheel drive and downshift with locked cross-axle differential.

Quite good ergonomics of the cabin as a whole. The long wheelbase guarantees ample legroom in both the front and rear. The large width of the vehicle interior and comfortable seats allow three adults to ride behind in complete comfort. The back of the sofa is adjustable in tilt angle. The seats are easily and quickly removed if necessary. A sufficiently large luggage compartment can be expanded by folding the rear seat backrest. However, only part of the backrest can be folded in a 40:60 ratio. The luggage compartment of the Suzuki Grand Vitara is equipped with hooks, neat pockets and an additional niche. Low edges allow you to place and remove luggage without any problems. Everything is very well thought out and functional.

This generation has lost its frame. In addition, all the car's suspensions have become independent. Which, of course, affected the handling. The car obeys the steering better, it is more stable in turns. Sustainability is promoted and new system all-wheel drive. Most models come standard 4-way full 4x4 with center differentiation, a system that offers a wide range of traction options for good off-road driving.

The four available engines offer a variety of performance combinations, from fuel-efficient to uncompromising power and rotation. In the domestic market, the Suzuki Grand Vitara is offered with two petrol engine options. Two-liter four-cylinder with a capacity of 145 hp. and a 2.7-liter V6 with 184 hp. In the first case, you can choose a five-speed "mechanics" or a four-speed "automatic". The top version of the V6 is aggregated with a new automatic five-speed transmission. For European buyers of the Grand Vitara, the choice is slightly different - the base engine is 1.6 liters (100 hp) plus a 1.9 TD turbodiesel. A two-liter version is also available for the five-door body. There can be an “automatic machine” with any configuration.

Suzuki specialists paid special attention to safety. ESP adds stability provided by the vehicle's low center of gravity with four main features: anti-lock braking system (ABS); electronic brake force distribution (EBD); traction control (TCS); and stability control. The Grand Vitara Corps provides the first line of defense plus a survival spot. The pedals are designed to minimize injury to the limbs and the airbag system to prevent injuries... All models come with child seat mountings that are made to ISO FIX standards.

In 2008, the Suzuki Grand Vitara was restyled. A reason to update your famous model the manufacturer found more than a solid one: the car celebrated its 10th anniversary. External changes are not revolutionary. In fact, the exterior of the updated car is not much different from the body design of the previous, pre-styling generation. dimensions the updated model is 4060x1810x1695 mm, the wheelbase is 2640 mm. The car got modified front bumper, new front fenders with dedicated wheel arches, exterior mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators and a larger mesh grille. Sporty notes in the exterior design of the Suzuki Grand Vitara are "performed" by 18-inch wheels, which are installed on five-door modifications of the car. On the other hand, the variants of the model equipped with 17-inch wheels have a pronounced off-road look. In addition, restyling has expanded the color palette of body paint. With all this, the model has retained its individual, recognizable appearance.

The interior of the salon has significantly freshened up, the ergonomics have improved. For example, the information screen integrated into the dashboard is now in front of the driver's eyes, where information about the operation of the vehicle systems is displayed in an easy-to-read format. On the comfortable steering wheel located on the adjustable column, as before, you can see the buttons for controlling the audio system and the climate control system, only now these buttons are supplemented with illumination. The location of some elements has changed. Most of the function keys are located on the center console: a climate control button, a heater control knob, a head unit that combines the functions of a radio receiver and a six-disc CD changer. The automatic transmission selector, in addition to the Power mode button, houses the front seat heating keys and a 12-volt electrical outlet. More powerful engines forced Japanese engineers to improve the level of soundproofing of the cabin. In addition, along with high-quality plastic, the interior of Grand Vitara, depending on the version, has chrome elements (for example, five-door modifications have chrome handles), as well as trim details styled in ebony.

The changes also affected the technical part. Two new engines have been added to the range of motors. One with a volume of 2.4 liters, equipped with an automatic variable valve timing system, the other - a 3.2-liter V6. The new 2.4-liter powertrain replaces the previous 2.0-liter engine with 140 hp. The new engine installed on the three-door version of the model has a power of 166 hp, the same engine installed on the five-door version with a five-speed manual transmission, develops up to 169 hp Equipped with a 2.4-liter engine and five-speed manual transmission, the three-door Grand Vitara accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 11.2 seconds. and develops up to 180 km / h maximum speed.

6-cylinder V-shaped engine with a volume of 3.2 liters. has a power of 232 hp. at 291 Nm of torque, it consumes up to 10.6 liters. in a mixed cycle. The five-door version of the Grand Vitara, equipped with a 3.2-liter engine and a five-speed automatic transmission, accelerates to 100 km / h in 9.3 seconds. and has a top speed of up to 200 km / h. Version with the latest power unit is considered a "flagship" - only it in the basic configuration received such options as Hill Descent Control (a system that maintains a speed of 5 or 10 km / h during descent) and Hill Hold Control (brakes a crossover standing on an uphill when moving the foot from the brake to the gas ).

In the list of modifications of the "facelift" model, there was also a brake system, now disc brakes are installed instead of rear drum brakes. The supporting frame that the previous generation Grand Vitara had is now gone, and the center of gravity of the crossover has become lower, which has a positive effect on the cornering characteristics.

According to the results of a series of crash tests of the EuroNCAP series, the updated model Suzuki Grand Vitara received 30 points for ensuring the safety of its passengers. High safety indicators have become achievable due to the fact that the body of the model consists of a rigid frame, energy-absorbing zones and deforms upon impact, without causing much damage to the passengers of the car. In addition, the Grand Vitara has the systems necessary to ensure active safety, which, in addition to ESP and ABS, also include the system for keeping the vehicle on the descent and ascent (HHC). Passive safety passengers in the cabin are guaranteed by six airbags, of which two are frontal, two side and curtain airbags, as well as three-point seat belts with pretensioners.

In 2010, Suzuki announced an upgrade to export versions of the vehicle. Grand Vitara 2011 model year has lost the spare wheel on the tailgate, due to which the overall length of the car has decreased by 200 mm. Instead of a spare wheel, the manufacturer offers a sealant and a compressor for quick wheel repair. The 1.9-liter diesel engine has been upgraded to comply with the Euro 5 environmental level. The basic equipment of all versions of the crossover includes a self-locking center differential and an electric downshift in the transfer case. All models are equipped anti-lock braking system brakes and brake force distribution system.

In 2012, the Suzuki Grand Vitara underwent another upgrade. The presentation of the European version of the car took place at the Moscow Motor Show on August 29, 2012.

In Russia, the car is offered in two body versions: three-door and five-door options. The three-door Grand Vitara is 4060 mm long, 1810 mm wide, 1695 mm high, 2440 mm wheelbase and 200 mm ground clearance. By the way, the three-door boasts a good indicator of the geometric cross-country ability of the body, the angle of entry is 29 degrees, the angle of departure is 36 degrees, and the longitudinal cross-country ability is 20 degrees. The 5-door version of the Grand Vitara, focused on comfort and optimal use of the usable space, has the following external parameters: length is 4500 mm, width is 1810 mm, height is 1695 mm, wheelbase is 2640 mm, ground clearance is 200 mm. The weight of the car varies from 1533 kg to 1584 kg. For a five-door with a body geometry, things are a little worse, if the angle of entry is the same as that of a three-door brother - 29 degrees, then the angle of longitudinal cross-country ability is slightly less - 19 degrees, but the exit angle is much less, only 27 degrees.

The 2013 Grand Vitara has changed quite a bit in appearance. Instead of a mesh, the radiator grill received two cross-members expanding to the middle, and a stamp appeared on the front bumper, reminiscent of a "kenguryatnik". The optics of the headlights have changed, the foglights are located in the wells, an apron has appeared along the edge of the bumper. The rear part is crowned with a large tailgate opening to the side and vertical lights.

Depending on the configuration, the rims can be 16-inch steel, or, for example, cast. In addition, Suzuki designers have created sporty 18-inch 7-spoke alloy wheels in urban style especially for the inhabitants of metropolitan areas. Fans of suburban life will certainly love the 17-inch 5-spoke off-road wheels.

For the restyled Grand Vitara, the following body colors are offered: Pearl Pnoenix Red (red), Silky Silver Metallic (silver), Pearl White Metallic (white), Pearl Nocturne Blue (blue), Bluish Black (black), Metallic Quasar Gray (dark gray) , Metallic Pearl Gaia Bronze (bronze), Bison Brown Pearl Metallic 2 (brown).

The car interior continues the severity and straightness of the body lines. The interior changes are cosmetic, the materials used in the decoration have become better. The interior is not only comfortable but also functional. The steering wheel is adjustable only in height and has a minimum set of buttons (music control). Illuminated steering wheel switches improve visual control of the audio system. The information display, integrated into the dashboard, informs the driver in Russian about the current operating modes of the car. For vehicles with 2.4 liter engines, the panel also displays the transmission operating mode, current fuel consumption, average speed and power reserve, among others. The Grand Vitara salon has a huge number of all kinds of drawers and pockets where you can put various useful little things.

The driver's and passenger's seats are heated and have a set and range of adjustments sufficient for a convenient location. In the second row of the five-door version, there is room for three passengers, but at the rear of the three-door, two passengers can hardly be accommodated. On the 5-door model, the rear seat has an armrest that divides it into two seats for maximum rear seating comfort. The trunk of the five-door Grand Vitara is designed to carry 398 liters with the rear row occupied, folding the second row seats will be able to load up to 1386 liters. The short body of the crossover with four passengers has a tiny luggage compartment of 184 liters, with the driver and front passenger increasing its cargo capacity to 964 liters.

In Russia, the 2013 Grand Vitara is offered in three trim levels. In the basic version, power steering, power windows for all doors, central locking, air conditioning, on-board computer, heated front seats, heated electric mirrors, front and rear fog lights, six airbags, CD MP3 music, fabric seat upholstery, 225/70 R16 tires on steel wheels.

The maximum equipment has a combined leather upholstery, a color touch screen (6.1 inches), a Garmin navigator, an audio system with voice control (CD MP3 USB AUX iPhone and iPod, Bluetooth), cruise control, alloy wheels with 225 / 60R18 tires, headlights with xenon filling and washer, engine start button.

In the process of updating the specifications Japanese crossover have not undergone special interference from the company's engineers. Fully independent front suspension with MacPherson struts and rear axle multi-link (five levers). Independent suspension and permanent all-wheel drive provide a smooth ride and stability on the road. Blocking center differential and a downshift in the transfer case allow the vehicle to overcome obstacles.

All 5-door models are equipped with a 3-mode all-wheel drive transmission with a limited slip center differential, which provides a wide range of tractive force distribution options for driving on various types of roads and off-road. The switch for one of the 3 four-wheel drive modes is located on the center console, which makes it as convenient as possible to select the desired mode. To switch to N (neutral) or 4L Lock (low gear with a locked center differential), the shift knob must be recessed, which prevents accidental unwanted activation of these modes.

Under the hood are petrol engines familiar from pre-styling models. The three-door version of the SUV is powered by a 107-horsepower 1.6-liter engine. It accelerates the car to 100 km / h in 14.4 seconds. Fuel consumption averages 8.2-8.5 liters. The maximum speed is 160 km / h. The five-door modification is offered with engines of 2.0 (140 hp) and 2.4 liters (169 hp). Transmission - 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. But the 3.2 liter version of the Suzuki Grand Vitara is no longer sold, apparently due to low demand. Diesel versions, alas, on Russian market also no.

The developers of Grand Vitara 2013 paid special attention to safety: the body structure combines a rigid frame of the frame and crumple zones that absorb impact energy. The rigidity of the body is reinforced by impact-resistant beams installed in the doors of the car.

On vehicles with a 3.2L engine, Hill hold control (HHC) not only improves active vehicle safety, but also increases off-road capability. Even the standard equipment of the Grand Vitara includes ABS, EBD and six airbags: two front, two side and protective curtains. Also, all cars are equipped with special ISO FIX fasteners for child seats and three-point seat belts (for front seats - with pretensioners and restraint limiters).

The basic equipment of the Suzuki Grand Vitara includes power accessories, immobilizer, fog lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, two front airbags, heated front seats, roof rails and automatic climate control, power steering, height adjustable steering column, information display (clock, overboard temperature, fuel consumption indicator), audio preparation (4 speakers). Optionally, the car can be equipped with an audio system with a CD changer for 6 discs and steering wheel control, R17 alloy wheels, a keyless engine start system, cruise control, leather interior. The 1.6 Grand Vitara is only offered in a three-door body. At the same time, the short four-seater version has a base of 2.2 m, a small trunk and a small rear sofa that folds out separately. But the 5-door Suzuki Grand Vitara with a two-liter engine comfortably accommodates five passengers, while the central tunnel is made as low as possible to create as little inconvenience as possible. For the transportation of large luggage, the sofa is folded in parts, and the luggage compartment volume increases from 275 to 605 liters. In 2012, the car was restyled.

The Grand Vitara has three gasoline engine volume of 1.6 liters (106 HP), 2 liters (140 HP) and 2.4 liters. (169 hp). All cars are equipped with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic. The electronically controlled automatic transmission has two operating modes: Normal and Sport. In addition, among the secondary sales segment, you can find other versions for different markets, where a 1.9-liter diesel engine or the most powerful one can be installed. Gas engine volume of 3.2 liters (233 hp). However, cars with such engines are not officially supplied to the Russian market.

The Suzuki Grand Vitara crossover combines increased cross-country ability with the dynamics and controllability of a passenger car thanks to its frameless design and independent rear suspension... In addition, the Suzuki Grand Vitara is equipped with a Drive Select 4x4 transmission control system with a switch in the passenger compartment. It works in several modes: 4H - four-wheel drive for normal roads; 4H Lock - allows you to turn on the center differential lock and will come in handy in bad road conditions; 4L Lock - with the inclusion of a low range of the gearbox for heavy off-road. If the vehicle needs to be towed, the switch is placed in neutral (N) mode to disconnect the transmission from the engine.

The safety level of the Grand Vitara is quite high. The basic equipment includes front and side airbags, curtain airbags, ISOFIX mounts, seat belt pretensioners, door stiffeners. Electronic systems include ABS with EBD (electronic distribution system braking force), as well as an auxiliary braking system. In more expensive versions, the car can be equipped with a help system when starting up and when descending from a slope, as well as electronic stabilization system ESP, which prevents skidding during cornering. This generation shows high results in crash tests.

Suzuki Grand Vitara's success is driven by worthy off-road qualities and affordable prices. By the way, the cost of the new basic 5-door version is less than 1 million rubles. The prices for used cars are even more interesting, while the maximum configurations look very favorable. And even with a two-liter engine, the car is great for everyday city driving. And, of course, the Grand Vitara demonstrates high reliability, as befits a Japanese car.

The popularity of the Suzuki Grand Vitara is so great that for many years it was produced all over the world and under different names.

Success and international recognition are objectively deserved - the versatility of the model in the aggregate of qualities is unmatched.

ATTENTION! Found a completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also did not believe until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

For a long time, the compact SUV remained the best-selling, and the car took its rightful place in the Russian market, and on a par with the right-hand drive twin brother Suzuki Escudo.

Whoever went, he knows, he will understand

The Grand Vitara is interesting and unique in that it is the most off-road in its class. Because there is permanent all-wheel drive, a ladder-type frame is built into the body, there is a center differential between the front and rear of the transfer case, there is a differential lock system and a reduced speed, which gives improved off-road qualities. The interior of the model is not particularly outstanding, solid, laconic, simple, not attracting attention, but not old-fashioned.

In the constant all-wheel drive of the Japanese on the track, even in bad weather conditions - ice, rain, winter road, there is a feeling of complete safety and reliability. If you happen to get into more serious off-road conditions, a differential lock and a low gear will come to the rescue.

Of course, we must remember that this is not a classic all-terrain vehicle, but an urban crossover and its suspension is low, the ground clearance is only 200 mm, but the car honestly works out on it and passes where most classmates get stuck.

Add to this reliability, does not break, unsurpassed quality and non-lethality, together with an excellent price tag, you get the most honest car in terms of hardware, and cross-country ability and functional ratio.

A bit of history

In fact, 1988 can be considered the starting point of creation, when the first Suzuki Escudo came out. But officially, under the name Grand Vitara, it rolled off the assembly line in 1997. In Japan it is called the Suzuki Escudo, in the USA it is called the Chevrolet Tracker. In Russia, the start of sales took place together with everyone and ended with the end of production in 2014. It was replaced by the Suzuki Vitara until 2016.

The debut of the new generation is scheduled for 2020 - 2021, according to the top manager of the Russian representative office of the Takayuki Hasegawa brand, due to the continuing demand from the customers of the division and dealers, who confirm that Russia lacks such a car. Most likely, it will be built on its own original base, and not on the inheritance of the carts from Vitara.

1st generation (09.1997-08.2005)

On sale three (an open-top version is available) and a five-door frame crossover with rear-wheel drive and the Part Time 4FWD system, the essence of which is the ability to manually connect / disconnect the front axle by the driver at a speed of no more than 100 km / h, and turn on the downshift only at full stop.

In 2001, the lineup was replenished with an elongated modification (the wheelbase increased by 32 cm) XL-7 (Grand Escudo) with a three-row cabin for seven people. The giant is equipped with a 2.7-liter V6 power unit that develops up to 185 hp.

The first Grand Vitara is equipped with 1.6 and 2.0 petrol inline fours with 94 and 140 hp. and V-shaped six-cylinder, giving out up to 158 hp. In some countries, a 2-liter diesel engine was exported, developing up to 109 forces. A five-band mechanical or 4-zone automatic transmission is completed in tandem with an internal combustion engine.

2nd generation (09.2005-07.2016)

This is the most bought generation, produced for 10 years without radical changes, the happy owners of which were a huge army of car owners. What is remarkable, all cars for the domestic consumer were assembled in Japan.

The second Grand Vitara received a frame integrated into the body and a permanent all-wheel drive with a differential lock and a reduction speed. In Japan, the novelty is available in four design solutions - Helly Hanson (especially for outdoor enthusiasts), Salomon (chrome body trim), Supersound Edition (for music lovers) and FieldTrek (luxury equipment).

In 2008, the manufacturer carried out the first minor modernization - the front bumper was changed, the front fenders became new and the wheel arches, the radiator grille were highlighted, the noise insulation was strengthened, a display appeared in the center of the dashboard. The restyled version acquired two new engines - 2.4 liters 169 hp and the most powerful 3.2 liters 233 hp. The latter was not officially supplied to Russia, as well as the diesel 1.9 liter Renault, which was exported to other markets. The gearbox for all cars is a five-speed manual or a four-speed, electronically controlled automatic with two modes - normal and sport.

On the short three-door four-seater baby, only a 1.6 liter engine with 106 hp is put, its base is 2.2 meters, a small trunk and rear seats that fold separately. In a five-door configuration, five passengers are quite comfortable, and a two-liter engine with 140 hp. enough for full everyday driving in the city. To transport oversized luggage, the rear row folds out in parts, and the volume of the cargo compartment is increased from 275 to 605 liters.

The second change to the Grand Vitara in 2011 concerned cars for the foreign market. The spare wheel has been removed from the cargo compartment door, thus the length of the vehicle has been reduced by 20 cm. The ecological level of the diesel engine has been brought to Euro 5 compliance. basic configurations received an electronic drive in the razdatka for turning on / off the reduced speed and a self-locking differential. The forced lock button is located on the center console.

Additionally, an option is available - a driver assistance system when driving down a hill. It maintains a speed of 5 or 10 km / h according to the transmission mode. And also at the start of the rise and the ESP skid prevention system. The three-door car did not receive an improved transmission, therefore increased cross-country ability does not possess.

More pluses

Among the advantages of the Suzuki Grand Vitara, besides the main one - the transmission, along with the cost, dynamism and reliability, good controllability, one can note a high level of safety with the highest scores according to the results of crash tests.

An important advantage in the exterior is spacious salon, both for the legs, so above the head and to the sides, which the majority in the class do not have. Excellent visibility. The plastic, although tough, is of high quality, with plenty of space for every little thing.

... and cons

There are drawbacks, like everyone else. Of the important - high fuel consumption, as a payback for four-wheel drive. In the city, a 2.0-liter with a manual transmission eats up to 15 liters per 100 km. What can we say, about more powerful and with a gun. A rare case, on the highway it turns out to keep within 10 l / 100 km. Most car owners say low level aerodynamics. The car is noisy and tough. The volume of the trunk is not small, but the shape is not comfortable - high and narrow.

Is it worth buying, if yes, with which engine

Having weighed all the pros and cons, rather yes. Because there are few good, reliable, durable cars now. Manufacturers have not been interested in playing long games for a long time. They need to frequently change units, parts, mechanisms, machines for new ones. The Suzuki Grand Vitara is different. There are many timeless classics that will serve well for decades.

No turbocharged internal combustion engines, no robots, no variators - perfectly smoothly and imperceptibly working hydromechanics with a long resource. The most important thing when buying commercial vehicle- do not get into expensive repairs or frequent replacement expensive items. Choosing this Japanese also the price will be more than adequate.

Objectively, for a 5-door car, two liters, and with passengers on a trip out of town and beyond, will not be enough. Around the city, from work, home, shopping - enough. Therefore, 2.4 liters with 166 hp. - just right, and 233 horses, which produces a 3.2 liter - too much. For such power, the car is light, it becomes dangerous, maneuverability is lost.

In general, the car is a real Japanese shy woman who has everything you need to feel calm and safe on the road, to know and be confident, and not to guess whether it will stretch or will not stretch out on the site off road... When creating the Grand Vitara, Suzuki did not spend on creating a super-fashionable design, placing emphasis on the main thing.

The current generation of Suzuki Grand Vitara has been produced since 2005, and during this time the car has been updated several times. Yes, the period is rather long, especially for a crossover, but Grand Vitara has not lost its relevance. "Japanese" is presented in a 3 or 5-door version, the first will be discussed.

In general, a three-door crossover or SUV is now quite difficult to meet, unless, of course, we take into account the Russian Lada 4 × 4. There are only a few cars in this segment, including the Suzuki Grand Vitara 3D. At first glance, the crossover is perceived as a woman's car due to its compact size, but this is not entirely true. Of course, it looks less serious than the five-door version, but at the same time it is more interesting and dynamic.

At the same time, there is something rough, one might even say masculine, in the appearance of the three-door "Vitara". Well, the impression is enhanced by a spare wheel hanging on the tailgate just like a real SUV. As for specific figures, the length of the car is 4060 mm, height - 1810 mm, width - 1810 mm, wheelbase - 2440 mm.

But in the cabin of the three-door Suzuki Grand Vitara, little says that this is an SUV, even the high seating position does not convince. The dashboard design is typical of a passenger car, only the transmission mode selector says that the car is capable of driving outside the pavement.

The salon of the "three-door Grand Vitara" looks somehow gloomy, even inserts for aluminum are not able to significantly revive it, some color display of the navigation system would not interfere with it, but, alas, it does not exist. However, using the audio system, climate control, and other functions is convenient and simple. Finishing materials used are quite high quality, pleasant to the eye and to the touch.

There is enough space in the front seats of the three-door Suzuki Grand Vitara, and the back is quite free, but only two passengers can sit there. The luggage compartment is small - its volume is only 184 liters, but by folding the rear seat it can be increased to 964 liters.

What is a car on the move? So, the three-door Grand Vitara is equipped with two naturally aspirated engines - a 1.6-liter with 106 horsepower and a 2.4-liter producing 166 "horses". The first is combined with a 5-speed "mechanics", the second - with a 4-band "automatic". The behavior of the car on the asphalt surface is worthy of respect. True, the 106-horsepower unit for this crossover is catastrophically small - sometimes there is not enough traction, acceleration is sluggish, but before each overtaking it is better to calculate the trajectory in advance.
But the Grand Vitara 3D with a 166-horsepower engine rides noticeably more vigorously - there is almost always enough power and reserve of thrust, only the old 4-band "automatic" somewhat conceals its real capabilities and is pretty dull. But even in this case, the car easily accelerates from medium speeds, which is why you can safely overtake.

The suspension of the Japanese "rogue" leaves a double impression. It works out fine irregularities, joints and pits perfectly, the ride is quite acceptable, but on an uneven primer the “Vitara-three-door” shakes noticeably, although the suspension does not allow breakdowns.

In general, the three-door Suzuki Grand Vitara is something between a crossover and an SUV. On the one hand, it has an honest permanent all-wheel drive with a center differential lock, a reduction gear, short overhangs and a base, but on the other hand, the suspension travels are not the greatest, and there is no frame and continuous axles. But everything is equal, the off-road potential of the car is high, it is capable of much, but the capabilities of the three-door "Vitara" should not be overestimated.

The three-door Suzuki Grand Vitara has its advantages and disadvantages, and if the former are similar to the five-door version, the latter are largely individual.
The positive aspects of the car include compact dimensions, overall structural reliability, good handling and cross-country ability, low price, affordable service, thoughtful ergonomics of the interior space and high-quality assembly.
Negative points - cramped rear seat, small luggage compartment, not very convenient access to the rear sofa, is perceived by many as a woman's car, not a quick "automatic".

In the Russian market, the Suzuki Grand Vitara in 2015 with a three-door body costs from 1,139,000 rubles for the 106-strong version and from 1,539,000 rubles for a more powerful version. It is safe to say that for all its compact appearance, this is not a woman's car at all!
