Daewoo Nexia is the most widespread and popular car made in Southeast Asia. However, it would be wrong to consider it “purely Asian”. Opel Kadett E, produced in Germany from 1984 to 1991, owes its birth to the "deushka", as the owners affectionately called it.

The first copies of the model produced under license from Opel left the Daewoo assembly line back in 1986. The car was exported to the USA and Canada under the name Pontiac Le Mans, and in the markets of other countries it became known as Daewoo Racer.

The first Racers appeared on the Russian market in the early 90s and were sold unofficially through "gray" dealers. In 1994, the first restyling of this model took place, during which the front and rear parts of the body, headlights, taillights were completely redesigned, in addition, the wheelbase of the car increased by 100 mm. After modernization, the model received a new name - Nexia (in the domestic market of Korea it was offered under the name Cielo).

And soon Daewoo branches in various countries began to assemble: UzDaewoo in Uzbekistan, Krasny Aksai in Russia and Rodae in Romania.

Until 2002, only one 1.5-liter was offered for the Nexia Gas engine, developed at one time by the Opel company. Its power was both 75 and 90 liters. with. depending on the head of the block: if it is 16-valve (it was extremely rare), then the car produced almost 100 hp. Well, if the 8-valve - 75 hp. For the Nexia, there were 2 types of gearboxes: a 4-speed automatic (only for European versions) and a five-speed mechanic, which proved itself well on the Kadett. The Nexia was available in 3 body styles: sedan, 3- and 5-door hatchback. Hatchbacks were produced in Romania only for the European market. Their production ended in 1997.

For Russian market Nexia was offered only in a sedan body and in two trim levels: GL and GLE. The first equipment was frankly "empty": a simple cassette radio and air conditioning (until 2002), there was not even a tachometer. antenna + 4 speakers (by the way, the sound quality is not bad), bumpers in body color, power steering, central locking... European cars had a driver's airbag and ABS.

The salon, by the standards of the class, is not bad and is designed for more or less comfortable accommodation of 4, not too tall people. Its finish is at a high level for such a cheap car. That only there is velor, very pleasant to the touch, which will cover the interior and upholstery of the doors. Soundproofing is also excellent. The front seats have good lateral support. By 2002, at factories in Romania and Russia, the production of Nexia was phased out and moved entirely to Uzbekistan. At the same time, a restyling was carried out, during which Nexia acquired rear "crystal" lamps, a decorative plastic trim on the trunk lid, a chrome-plated radiator lining and new door panels in the cabin.

The car, due to its attractive price, good road performance and reliability, is very popular in Russia, three times became the sales leader among foreign cars from 1999 to 2002 and to this day it confidently keeps in the top five. Restyling

Since 2008, the car has been removed from production in Uzbekistan, and in return it was developed a Daewoo Nexia restyling, which has become more improved and modified. The second family is not produced in a hatchback body. The company only offers the car in sedan form.

It is clear that after the restyling, the appearance of the Nexia has changed. The car received new halogen optics with a lens system. As elsewhere, there is a flip side of the coin here, because simple forms have made it possible to drastically reduce the production cost, which is really important for a budget car. Throughout the entire production period, 2 basic configurations were produced: GL and GLE. GL was considered budgetary and was equipped with unpainted bumpers and rear-view mirrors. The second version already had painted bumpers and built-in fog lights.

It is worth emphasizing that fog lamp glasses often crack. This is partly due to the fact that the headlights of the auxiliary lighting get hot, and when water gets on them, the lens cracks. Not such powerful configurations were shod in 13-inch wheels, and more powerful modifications came with 14-inch wheels.

It would seem that the difference is only one inch, but thanks to the even wider tires, the handling is noticeably improved. If you come across a Daewoo Nexia with 14-inch wheels and the DONC name, it means that the car in front of you is not older than 2002.

All plastic has improved a lot in quality, all unloved cracks and gaps have disappeared, it was possible to increase the noise insulation in the cabin.

The steering wheel received a brand new rim with a special notch for the fingers. The calm illumination of the devices will not leave you indifferent either. For extra money, you can install a sliding sunroof on top. In the second generation of the famous sedan, more expensive plastic was used, and the quality of fastening elements and parts improved significantly.

The front panel has oval and rectangular details. All elements are located comfortably and have been backlit. Some of the controls, or rather the buttons for the electric package, are installed on the driver's door.

Transmission

Synchronized operation of power units with 5-speed manual transmission and one clutch disc, which, in practice, has a "heavy" shifting device. If the timing belt breaks, the engine will need to be sorted out, although the fact that the valves will necessarily meet with the pistons is not guaranteed.

Suspension

The front-mounted suspension is independent, spring-loaded on a McPherson strut platform. At the rear, semi-independent structures with springs and a torsion beam are used. The petrol 1.6-liter 109-horsepower engine has one interesting point. To reduce the emission of toxic gases, an EGR valve is installed on it. However, from "our" gasoline, the recirculation system is often clogged, so most car owners shut off this valve.

However, the power plant also adopted some of the disadvantages of the German motor. Often the lambda probe leaves the working position, oil flows from under the valve cover and difficulties arise with the functioning of the thermostat, which opens earlier than necessary.

The fact that the oil is flowing is not the whole problem. Often, oil flows into the candle wells, after which the internal combustion engine begins to triple. But on the power unit, occasionally oil is coming between the piston rings, therefore, in this regard, the F16D3 is reliable.

Just like all cars, an Uzbek-made sedan requires passing Maintenance, and in the engine you need to change the oil at the same time interval as indicated in the established regulations.

As with other vehicles, the oil should be changed every 10,000 kilometers. If the conditions for using the vehicle are difficult (heavy loads, operation in a hot region), the oil must be changed after 5,000 kilometers.

There are no special recommendations for oils for Nexia engines. So that the oil does not burn and blackness does not appear on the elements from the inside power plant, it is good if it is of high quality and has good additives. Many drivers already know that it is precisely because of fake oil that carbon deposits and a reduction in the resource of the power unit occur. Counterfeits do not have high-quality additives that have the necessary lubricating properties and reduce the friction of parts.

Daewoo Nexia previously passed crash tests in a frontal collision at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour. Then everyone was frightened by the driver's door jammed in the opening, the welded seams that simply parted in the floor area, and the metal of the B-pillar, which bent from the tug of the seat belt.

Daewoo Nexia is a popular car and, to some extent, legendary for a Russian motorist.
