Adjusting Daewoo Matiz valves is a rather troublesome and difficult task. It is necessary to have not only special tools, but also to know what the valve clearances should be, as well as to be able to adjust them. Regulations technical works for maintenance of ICE Matiz provides for such events every 20,000 km.

According to experts, Daewoo Matiz valve adjustment is necessary for the following reasons:

  • an increased thermal gap causes a decrease in the lift height, and, therefore, in the flow area, as a result of which the qualitative filling of the cylinder with a combustible mixture or air is reduced;
  • reduced clearance contributes to the violation of the tightness of the valve seat in the seat, which directly affects the compression and causes the chamfer of the part to burn;
  • an increase in the clearance in the mechanisms entails a deterioration in the cleaning of cylinders from gases and makes the combustion process of the mixture defective.

Violation of the technological dimensions in the timing mechanisms leads to wear of the valve rods and the seats of the parts. Carbon deposits and related malfunctions of the spring structures lead to a disruption in the operating cycle of the power plant.

The presence of the following signs will help to determine the moment when it is necessary to adjust the Daewoo Matiz valves:

  • drop in power;
  • ringing knock in the timing area;
  • interruptions in the operation of the internal combustion engine;
  • periodic popping in the inlet or outlet.

The presence of the listed symptoms requires immediate intervention, otherwise, breakdowns associated with replacing the timing units will require significant financial investments.

Preparatory work for adjusting valves Daewoo Matiz

First of all, you need to remember that all adjustments are performed on a cold engine. Now we complete a set of the necessary tools:

  • set of open-end wrenches;
  • set of screwdrivers;
  • set of heads;
  • pliers;
  • set of imbus keys;
  • set of measuring probes.

The procedure for adjusting the clearances requires a number of preparatory measures, because it is not so easy to get to the timing units. Disconnect the negative battery cable first.

Removing the air filter housing

The process consists of several transitions:

  1. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, loosen the air duct clamp.
  2. Disconnect the filter connection from the air duct.
  3. For Matiz internal combustion engines of 0.8 liters, disconnect the harness block of the engine control system and the air temperature sensor, remove the hose from the filter housing.
  4. Using the “10” head, unscrew the three bolts securing the filter housing to the air intake and remove them.
  5. Lift the housing with air intake and resonator and remove the two pins from the rubber cushions.
  6. Dismantle the node.

Removing the ignition coil block

The following procedure, without which adjustment of the Daewoo Matiz valves is impossible, is performed according to the diagram:

  1. Press out the retainer for the harness block of the ICE control system.
  2. Remove the block from the ignition coil assembly.
  3. Slide the rubber caps off the coil block leads and disconnect the high voltage wires.
  4. Using the “10” head, unscrew the three bolts securing the coils and the bracket for the cylinder head cover.
  5. Remove the ignition coil assembly.

Dismantling the throttle assembly

The technological map of this process includes the following works:

  1. Disconnect the crankcase breather pipe from the air duct.
  2. Disconnect the hose from the air filter housing and remove the air duct.
  3. Disconnect the terminals of the wires from the XX regulator (for Matiz internal combustion engines 0.8 l).
  4. Disconnect the wires from the position sensor throttle.
  5. Drain the antifreeze from the expansion tank to the "Min" mark.
  6. Use pliers to squeeze the clamps of the coolant hoses to the nozzles of the throttle unit and disconnect them.
  7. Remove the four mounting bolts from the throttle body and intake manifold with a hexagon.
  8. Remove the throttle assembly.

Final preparations for valve adjustment Daewoo Matiz

After implementing the points described above, you need to remove the upper timing belt cover. To do this, dismantle the wheel arch liner from the right front wheel arch and unscrew the four bolts securing the cover with a “10” spanner.

Before directly adjusting the Daewoo Matiz valves, it remains to do a few simple technological operations:

  1. Using pliers, squeeze the edges of the clamp of the vacuum supply hose to vacuum amplifier and slide it further along the hose.
  2. Remove the vacuum hose.
  3. Remove the crankcase breather hose from the cylinder head cover fitting.
  4. Unscrew the intake manifold bracket bolt using a 5-key Allen key.
  5. Compress the petals of the engine control system wiring retainer with a screwdriver and disconnect the harness from the bracket.
  6. Unscrew the bolt fastening the bracket of the connecting pipe with the head on "10" and take it to the side.
  7. Unscrew 8 bolts securing the cylinder head cover using the hexagon to "5" and remove it.

How the Daewoo Matiz valves are adjusted

We first learn that for the intake valves the clearance is 0.13-0.17 mm, and for the exhaust valves it is 0.3-0.34 mm. A stylus of the correct size should be moved between the gap with little effort. Now you can start adjusting work in stages:

  1. Turn the crankshaft with the head on "17" clockwise until the mark on the pulley coincides with the number "0" on the bottom cover drive belt Timing
  2. In this position, the clearances of the intake and exhaust mechanisms of the 1st cylinder, as well as the intake of the 2nd and 3rd cylinders are adjusted.
  3. In case of deviations from the recommended dimensions, loosen the lock nut with a wrench "12", while holding the adjusting screw with a slotted screwdriver.
  4. Insert the dipstick into the gap and adjust the engine valve mechanism by tightening / unscrewing the adjusting screw with a screwdriver until the desired dimensional values are obtained. Then tighten the lock nut while holding the screw with a screwdriver to prevent it from turning.
  5. Rotate the shaft 360 ° so that the blue mark on the camshaft pulley aligns with the triangular mark on the lower timing belt cover.
  6. Check and adjust the clearances of the following valve mechanisms: Exhaust 2nd and intake 3rd cylinders and intake and exhaust 4th cylinders.

After completing the adjustment work, all dismantled units and assemblies are installed in the reverse order.

Symptoms: knocking on the engine, the engine "troit".

Possible reason: the thermal clearances of the intake and exhaust valves are broken.

Instruments: wrench set, socket set, flat blade screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, pliers.

Note. Checking and adjusting the thermal clearances in the valve drive should be carried out on a cold engine.

5. Slide the vacuum hose fixing clamp from the outlet line to the vacuum booster along the hose, squeezing the clamp with pliers.

6. Disconnect the vacuum supply hose from the connecting tube.

7. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose from the fitting on the cylinder head cover.

8. Loosen the connecting tube and inlet pipe bracket retaining screw using a 5-key hex.

9. Squeeze the ECM harness retainer tabs using a screwdriver.

10. Remove the ECM harness holder from the bracket.

11. Unscrew the fastening nut of the connecting tube bracket using the “10” socket.

12. Move the connecting tube aside.

Note. Do not disconnect the brake servo hose from the connecting tube.

13. Remove the eight cylinder head cover retaining screws.

14. Remove the cylinder head cover.

15. Remove the mudguard located in the right front wheel arch.

16. Turn the crankshaft clockwise until the notch mark located on the crankshaft pulley aligns with the number "0" located on the lower timing belt cover. Pay attention to the mark on the camshaft toothed pulley: it should be located opposite the mark on the rear cover of the timing belt (use the “17” crown).

Note. In this position crankshaft only the intake and exhaust valves of the first cylinder, the intake valve of the second cylinder, and the exhaust valve of the third cylinder are adjusted.

17. Check thermal gap between the valve stem and the adjusting screw, using a flat dipstick (the dipstick should move in the gap with little effort; the gap should be: 0.13-0.17 millimeters for inlet valves; 0.30-0.34 millimeters for exhaust valves) ...

Note. Follow the instructions below if the clearance dimensions exceed the maximum allowable values.

18. Slightly loosen the lock nut tightening using a “12” spanner (do not allow the adjusting screw to turn, for which hold the screw with a slotted screwdriver).

19. Insert a feeler gauge between the valve stem and the adjusting screw, then use a screwdriver to turn the screw until the clearance is dimensional (see item 17).

Before adjusting the thermal clearances on the valves, you need to get to them. Disassembly begins with the removal of the ignition coil block and throttle assembly.

To dismantle ignition coil block , you first have to move the rubber protective caps from its terminals, and then disconnect the tips of the spark plugs high-voltage wires... Then, using the "10" head, using an extension, you need to unscrew the three fastening bolts that fix the coil block to the cylinder head cover bracket. The block can be removed.

To remove throttle assembly on Daewoo Matiz 1.0 l, you must first disconnect the terminal of the wire on battery... Using a slotted screwdriver, the tightening of 2 clamps that fix the air duct with the nozzles of the throttle assembly and the cover of the air filter housing is loosened. Then we remove the air duct from the nozzles of the filter cover and the throttle assembly and take the air duct to the side. Disconnect the throttle cable from the drive sector.

Now you need to disconnect the block in which the wires are placed from the throttle assembly connector. To do this, you just need to push down on the pad retainer located at the bottom. Next, two nuts are unscrewed (key "10") on the upper mount of the throttle assembly. It is already possible to remove the bracket for the cable to the throttle actuator from the studs of the intake manifold.

To top it off, two screws (hexagon "5") are loosened, holding the lower fastening of the throttle assembly. The throttle assembly moves from the studs. The adsorber purge hose is disconnected from the fitting on the throttle body and the throttle body itself is removed. Do not forget to remove the throttling assembly flange gasket. Please note that in the Daewoo Matiz 0.8 l the throttle assembly is removed a little differently.

After removing the throttle assembly, a dismantling queue was established upper timing belt cover ... Squeezing the ends of the vacuum brake booster clamp with the vacuum supply hose from the inlet pipeline to the vacuum brake booster with pliers, slide the clamp along the hose. The vacuum supply hose can now be removed from the connecting tube. Further, the crankcase ventilation hose is removed from the cylinder head cover fitting. The hexagon "5" is used to unscrew the screw securing the intake manifold with the bracket of the connecting pipe.

In the next step, detach the wiring harness holder from the bracket. To do this, it is enough to squeeze the petals of the holder of the wires going to the engine control system with a screwdriver. Turn the head "by 10" to turn off the fastening of the bracket of the connecting tube. We move the connecting pipe to the side without disconnecting the vacuum brake booster hose from it. We unscrew the eight screws securing the cylinder head cover with a "5" hexagon. The cylinder head cover can now be removed.

We shoot mudguard connected to the right front wheel arch. To do this, dismantle the right front wheel. From the bottom of the car, use a Phillips screwdriver through the hole in the front subframe to unscrew the screw of the lower attachment of the shield. Using the "10" head, unscrew the nuts of the upper and front mountings of the shield. That's it - the mudguard is released.

Adjustment of thermal gaps.

After removing the shield on Daewoo Matiz 1.0, it is already possible to adjust the thermal clearances. For this, the piston of the first cylinder at TDC is installed at the end of the compression stroke. To achieve this, we turn the crankshaft clockwise (with the head on "17") by the pulley mounting bolt until the mark in the form of a cutout on the crankshaft pulley aligns with the number "0" on the lower timing belt cover. You need to watch that the mark on the toothed pulley camshaft was placed opposite the triangle mark on the rear cover of the timing belt. Having achieved this position of the crankshaft, you can already inspect and adjust the valve clearances in the following order:

Intake and exhaust valves of the first cylinder;

Intake valve of the second cylinder;

Exhaust valve of the third cylinder.

We check the thermal gap between the valve stem and the adjusting screw with a flat feeler gauge. With all this, the probe should move in the gap with little effort. The clearance should be within the permissible range of 0.32 ± 0.02 mm for exhaust valves and 0.15 ± 0.02 mm for intake valves.

If the value of the thermal gap does not coincide with the permissible, then we loosen the tightening of the lock nut using a 12 key, while keeping the adjusting screw from turning. It is most convenient to hold the screw with a slotted screwdriver. To achieve the required clearance, you need to stick a dipstick between the adjusting screw and the valve stem, and then turn the screw with a screwdriver to the appropriate values. After - we tighten the lock nut, with all this the adjusting screw is held by a screwdriver. At the end of the adjustment, all clearances must be rechecked again.

We continue to adjust. Turn the crankshaft 360 ° clockwise. With all this, the blue mark toothed pulley the camshaft should be located opposite the triangular mark on the rear timing belt cover. In this position of the crankshaft, we check and, if necessary, adjust the clearances of the subsequent valves:

Exhaust second cylinder;

Intake third cylinder;

Intake and exhaust of the 4th cylinder.

After finishing the adjustment of the valve thermal clearances on the Daewoo Matiz 1.0 l, all removed units and parts are installed in reverse order.

Automobile Daewoo Matiz has a fairly small, and therefore economical engine. But sometimes, in the flow, it is necessary to gas up so as not to fall out of the general mass of motorists. To keep the engine running, it must be checked regularly. It is also important to periodically adjust the work of the GDS system.

What time is it desirable to adjust the valves on the Daewoo Matiz?

Each internal combustion engine requires adjustment of the clearances of this mechanism. Valve adjustment at Daewoo Matiz is recommended to be carried out every 20 thousand kilometers.

Experts talk about the following factors indicating the need to adjust the valve:

  1. A wider thermal gap will cause a decrease in lift height and flow area. As a result, the engine receives less fuel and air.
  2. Conversely, the reduced thermal clearance compromises the tightness of the valve seat in the seat. This can cause the chamfer of the part to be burned, which in turn will negatively affect the compression.
  3. The cylinders began to be less cleaned of gases, and the combustion process of the mixture became of poor quality if the gaps increased.

In the event that the dimensions specified by the technologists are violated in the timing system, the valve stems and the landing sites of engine parts wear out. Carbon deposits and associated damage to parts with springs can cause engine failure.

Signs to help you understand when it's time to make an adjustment:

  • The engine power has dropped;
  • A resounding knock is heard in the timing area;
  • Engine interruptions occur;
  • Pop in / out pops intermittently.

If, in the presence of these faults, you do not start renovation work in the near future, it will cause serious cash costs in the future.

Therefore, let's look at the order of adjustment. Daewoo valves Matiz.

Preparatory stage of work

It is important to know that you only need to adjust the valves with a cold engine.

The tools should include:

  • Wrenches (they are open-end) - a set;
  • Screwdriver set;
  • Socket set;
  • Imbus keys (set);
  • Measuring probes;
  • Pliers.

Getting to the valves requires some preparatory work.

It is necessary to de-energize the battery, observing safety precautions. To do this, disconnect the minus wire from the battery.

To do this, do the following:

  1. The air duct is fastened with a special clamp, we loosen it with a flat screwdriver.
  2. We take the filter branch pipe, which is air, and disconnect it from the air duct.
  3. Remove the hose from the air filter housing.
  4. If your car engine has a volume of 0.8 liters, then you need a harness block electronic system to separate the internal combustion engine control from the temperature temperature.
  5. The filter housing is attached to the air intake with three screws. Turn them off with a socket head on "10".
  6. Raise the air intake and voice box slightly, remove the pins from the special rubber cushions.
  7. Dismantle the assembly.

Now we remove the ignition module.

Adjusting the valves on the Daewoo Matiz without this procedure is almost impossible.

In doing this, we do the following:

  1. We find the fixer and squeeze it from the harness block of the engine control system.
  2. The coils are attached to the cylinder head cover holder; to remove them, you will need to unscrew three bolts with the "tenth" socket head.
  3. Remove the ignition module.
  4. Now we remove the throttle assembly.

This action is also performed in several stages:

  1. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube from the duct tube.
  2. Also, remove the hose leading to air filter, after which we remove the air duct.
  3. It is required to disconnect all wires from the regulator idle move... This applies to the 0.8 liter Matiz engine.
  4. The throttle body has a position sensor. We also disconnect the wires leading to it.
  5. Antifreeze must be drained to the minimum mark.
  6. On the hoses that supply coolant to the throttle block, it is necessary to squeeze the clamps with pliers and disconnect them.
  7. The throttle body and intake manifold have four securing bolts. They need to be turned out with a hex wrench.
  8. Now we can remove the entire throttle assembly.

One last thing to do right before adjusting.

When the work is completed, remove the cover from the timing belt. To do this, you need to remove the front arch liner on the right and 4 mounting bolts.

Now there are a few more simple operations to be done:

  1. A vacuum hose is routed to the vacuum amplifier. It is necessary, using pliers, to clamp the clamp from the edges and move it along the hose.
  2. Remove the vacuum supply.
  3. Remove the ventilation crankcase inlet from the cylinder head cover union.
  4. The screw for the inlet pipe holder must be loosened with a “5” Allen key.
  5. It is necessary to squeeze the petals of the fixing element of the wires located in the control system power unit using a screwdriver. Disconnect the harness from the holder.
  6. With a socket head for “ten”, unscrew the bolt that secures the bracket for the connecting hose and move it to the side.
  7. Unscrew the bolts (8 pieces) that secure the cylinder head with the "fifth" hex wrench and disconnect it.

And now about the main thing: we normalize the valve clearances on the Daewoo Matiz

It is important to take into account the information that for the intake valves, the clearance should be from 0.13-0.17 mm, and for the outlet 0.3-0.34 mm. In this space, with some effort, the probe should move.

Next, step by step, we proceed directly to the adjustment:

  1. With the seventeenth socket head, in the direction of the clock hand, turn the crankshaft so that the mark on the pulley coincides with the mark "0" on the timing belt cover from below.
  2. In this position, the clearances of the inlet / outlet of the first cylinder, the inlet of the second, and the exhaust system of the third cylinder are adjusted.
  3. If you see that the dimensions do not coincide with the ideal, which are recommended by experts, you need to loosen the locknut with a "12" key.
  4. The main thing is to hold the adjustment screw at the same time with a slotted screwdriver.
  5. Insert a dipstick into the gap and adjust the valve by unscrewing / tightening the adjusting screw until the required values are obtained.
  6. Next, tighten the control nut while holding the adjustment screw in parallel with a screwdriver.
  7. It is necessary, by turning the shaft, to achieve coincidence on the lower camshaft cover, the blue mark converges with the "triangle" at the timing belt on the bottom cover.
  8. Now it is necessary to implement the regulation of the clearances: the release of the second and third cylinders, and the inlet / outlet of the 4th.

As soon as all the valves on the Matiz are adjusted, it is necessary to install all the constituent elements of the engine, in the opposite order from the analysis.

Daewoo Matiz. Steam comes out from under the expansion tank cap (white smoke)

Breakdown of the cylinder head gasket

The most common answer to such a problem is the burning out of the cylinder head gasket (cylinder head), if it is not difficult for you to disassemble the engine, your first thought will probably be to change this gasket. But imagine that there are two more reasons that antifreeze squeezes out of the system.

1- This airlock in the coolant system, because of it, not only the stove in the cabin may not work, but this is already a sign of a plug in the coolant - coolant, provided that the fluid level is normal, but the thermostat may not work correctly. Which can lead to an increase in pressure in the cooling system. Well, squeezing out antifreeze.

2- This is a problem associated with the expansion tank, well, and the smart cap of this tank.

To improve the circulation of coolant through the engine system, when the engine is started, a small pressure is created by the pump, which increases the efficiency of the cooling system. If insufficient pressure is created in the coolant system, the engine will heat up faster. Which can cause the antifreeze to boil or decompose. When the decomposition of antifreeze boils, vapors are looking for weak spots... Such as wooden rubber o-rings for the cooling system, poor pipes, expansion tank or radiator cap not tightly tightened.

The cylinder head is, of course, also not a minor problem, but it can also be diagnosed and, as it turned out, it is very simple.

We start the engine, open the cover of the expansion tank, if on idle you can see bubbles that come from the main hose, this is one of two things, either an air lock is broken, or a problem with the cylinder head gasket.

If this is an airlock, then you can get rid of it by gasping and waiting for a while, the most effective procedure is very difficult in the description, since you need to carry out a number of sequential actions and it is better to show them on the camera.

If there is no plug and there is a problem with the cylinder head, then you will have constant or weak bubbling in the expansion barrel or the level of antifreeze will gradually go away.
If your coolant goes somewhere and there are no traces on the engine, then there may be coolant either in the cylinder or in the muffler, which also often happens. This indicates a problem with the cylinder head.

Expansion tank malfunctions

First, be sure to look at the drips of antifreeze along the barrel, there are three problems with it:

1- the cover of the expansion tank (the cover gasket is stiff) allows air to pass through, there is also a deformation of the cover of the RB - an expansion tank - only replacement with the original.

2- the thread of the expansion tank cap is torn off, in which case a new cap will not help for a long time!

3- the expansion barrel is leaking or bursting along the seam, which manifests itself from an increase in pressure in the engine coolant system, there are cases that as engine cooling the slot joins and the coolant stops squeezing out.

4- air leaks (it happens, but rarely)

Most importantly, this is a visual inspection for the subject and places of leaks, and checks for damage to the hoses.

Pay attention to the thread on which the tank cap was screwed.

It so happens that if you tighten the lid, it rises crookedly and the liquid easily comes out of the tank. If you look at the thread of the tank, it is not really clear whether it is intact or not, but if you highlight it on one side, it is all ripped off.

Other reasons

1. White emulsion (foam) on the oil dipstick or on the oil filler cap indicates that coolant has entered the lubrication system, most likely through a hole in the cylinder head gasket. Sometimes, though rarely, the gasket is intact and the leakage occurs due to a crack in the block itself. But in any case, if there is a white emulsion in the lubrication system, you need to sound the alarm, or even better, pick up a tool and fix the malfunction.

2. White smoke from exhaust pipe when the engine is running, indicates the penetration of coolant into the cylinder (s) of the engine. At the same time, its level decreases, since it partially "flies into the pipe". The exhaust of a car can be white when the engine warms up, a large amount of condensate and high air humidity - this is not a malfunction, but if there is always a lot of smoke, it is worth considering.

3. Oil spots on the surface of the coolant in the expansion tank or in the radiator indicate the penetration of oil where it should not be.

The reason is most likely a malfunction of the cylinder head gasket. At least it's worth checking it out.

4. Bubbles leaving through expansion tank or radiator indicate coolant penetration exhaust gases... There is a hole somewhere, and most likely it is in the gasket of the block head. A certain amount of bubbles may appear when replacing the coolant - this is normal, but if the antifreeze is constantly "bubbling" - then something is wrong.

5 . Clogged oil filler neck

6. Antifreeze leaves under the exhaust manifold mounting stud

8. Water from the radiator enters the cylinder block - it is necessary to replace the radiator
