Hyundai Creta 1.6 at the moment it is offered with a 6-speed manual or 6-band automatic. The power of the gasoline aspirated is 123 hp. Structurally 1.6 liter engine Hyundai creta very similar to the same engine on the Hyundai Solaris. However, there is one important difference. Solaris 1.6 has a variable valve timing system on the intake shaft, while the Crete engine has a phase shifter on both the intake and exhaust shafts. That is, this engine has a double variable valve timing system. The power supply system is a conventional distributed injection. Especially for Russia, the engine was adapted for AI-92 gasoline.

Creta 1.6 engine from the so-called Gamma series. The inline 4-cylinder engine has 16 valves and timing chain drive... The power unit does not have hydraulic compensators. Valves must be adjusted after 100,000 kilometers. The timing chain resource is very high and often nurses more than 300 thousand kilometers. The engine cylinder block is aluminum. Assembling the engine for Hyundai Creta in China at the Beijing Hyundai Motor plant.

Hyundai Creta 1.6 engine, fuel consumption, dynamics

  • Working volume - 1591 cm3
  • Number of cylinders / valves - 4/16
  • Cylinder diameter - 77 mm
  • Piston stroke - 85.4 mm
  • Power h.p. - 123 at 6300 rpm
  • Torque - 151 Nm at 4850 rpm
  • Compression ratio - 11
  • Timing drive - chain
  • Maximum speed - 169 kilometers per hour (with automatic transmission 169 km / h)
  • Acceleration to the first hundred - 12.3 seconds (with automatic transmission 12.1 seconds)
  • Fuel consumption in the city - 9 liters (with automatic transmission 9.2 liters)
  • Combined fuel consumption - 7 liters (with automatic transmission 7.1 liters)
  • Fuel consumption on the highway - 5.8 liters (with automatic transmission 5.9 liters)

When tuning the engine, Hyundai engineers shifted the torque curve down. After all, the crossover is on average 250 kilograms heavier than the same Solaris, and the designers were looking for a compromise between dynamics and fuel consumption.

It is worth noting that the service life of the power unit is quite high. And the engine itself is unpretentious in terms of fuel quality. Another feature can be considered that, together with a modern 6-speed automatic transmission, it was possible to maintain good dynamics and acceptable fuel consumption.

Today we will look at the Hyundai Creta engines, which we will compare with each other and compare with the engines of competitors.

The Korean concern "Hyundai" has established itself in the world market as a manufacturer of reliable power units. They are distinguished by a long service life, reliability and ease of use. Each new car, descended from the factory assembly line, receives an authentic motor, manufactured and assembled at the factory's facilities. Korean engineers did not break the established traditions and installed two gasoline engine:
1. The power unit is 1.6 liters.
2. Motor capacity is two liters.
Both engines are powered by the AI-95. Moreover, the 1.6 liter engine can use the AI-92 as fuel. It is clear that each has its own flavor, but there are certain drawbacks.

As for the features and technical characteristics of the power units of Hyundai Greta
Type of structures power plants- in-line. In both cases, the cylinders are located transversely. They, as well as valves of 4 pieces. There is a difference between engines in volume: 1.6 versus 2.0 liters.
The diameter of the cylinder of the unit of lower power is 77 mm. In the two-liter version, this figure is 81 mm. In terms of compression ratio, there are also differences of 10.3 versus 10.5 more powerful.
Power ratings are also different. The "little brother" is capable of delivering 151 Nm at a maximum power of 123 l / force. The two-liter version has 192 Nm. Installation power at the level of 149.6 horses. Both designs are equipped with a distribution injection system.
Let's define the features of each unit and begin an overview of the basic version.

Powertrain 1.6 MPI

The basic version of the engine is closely related to the Gamma family. She is known not only in Russia, but throughout the entire post-Soviet space. A simplified version of the power plant in question has already been used on a number of Honda and Kia car models. Let's take a look at the distinctive features of the 123 hp engine.
The cylinder block is made of lightweight aluminum alloy. Despite its light weight, it (block) is considered very reliable.
The timing system uses a belt.
System injection injection equipped with a special fuel rail.
Engineers have defined an individual ignition coil for each cylinder.
The unit has 16 valves. The adjustment is carried out mechanically.
Simplicity and reliability - that's the trick of the 1.6-liter power plant.
According to experts and user reviews, the Creta 1.6 engine is very economical. As noted earlier, base gasoline 95 or 92 can be used as fuel.

If you stand still and do not improve the installation, then you will be bypassed by the competitors. The engineers of the Korean concern also understand this. So, certain changes have been made to the latest version of the crossover:
improved phase control system CWT;
with regard to the technical characteristics of the motor. The rated power of the engine is 123 l / force with a unit volume of 1.6 liters;
the developers gave preference to the aluminum block of cylinders and the cylinder head;
a coil is used to supply the ignition.
It is necessary to say about fuel consumption. Average indicators at the level of 7 liters per hundred.

Powertrain 2.0 MPI

This engine belongs to the Hyundai powertrain family and is considered a more advanced version. In his favor is the fact that he is operated on a crossover version with four-wheel drive... Although the total operational period is only 3 years. The features of the two-liter unit include the following. The use of a cylinder block, in the production of which light alloy metals are involved.

The chain drive serves 2 shafts at the same time.
The intake and intake shaft is aggregated with the CWT phase control system.
The power unit is equipped with a distribution injection system.
In version 2.0, the valve tappets are adjusted in automatic mode.
The engine can be "powered" by 92 gasoline as fuel. This allows the baseline fuel consumption to be reduced (saved).

Note!

With the existing capacity of 164-167 mares, the Russians are offered only a unit with a capacity of 149.6 l / force. The use of only one version is associated with legislation in terms of transport tax. But this fact did not in any way affect the dynamics of the car.
The Kreta 2.0 power plant is connected to the intake tract geometry control system.
Speaking about the positive aspects of power plants, you should not artificially raise them to the automobile Olympus. It is necessary to reveal the shortcomings, which we will try to do.

Disadvantages of power units 1.6 and 2.0 Hyundai Greta

Although the engines are assembled in China, there is little cause for concern. But, there are certain shortcomings such as: the complexity of the restoration process (repair) and a low threshold for operation. According to the official version, without overhaul engines can operate within 180-200 thousand kilometers. There is unofficial data that the operational life can be increased to 300 thousand with due and regular maintenance... But, we will adhere to the official position of the Korean concern. According to experts, the price of cylinder blocks is too high. The working life of the parts is 250 thousand kilometers. And the cost reaches 80 thousand rubles. So consider the economy.

Problems with cast iron liners. They are filled with liquid aluminum, and are combined with the structure of the block. What does this mean in practice? It is unrealistic to repair and / or change individual elements. Difficulties associated with an aluminum cylinder block. Yes, it is lightweight and reliable - no doubt about it. But, at the same time, it is impossible to squander it. The block wears out quickly. At the same time, its productivity is lost, and fuel consumption indicators increase. Most importantly, the aluminum cylinder block is not repairable.

A few words about competitors
Gathered in this segment big company, which includes representatives Renault Kaptur, Kia Soul, Skoda Yeti. Korean engines are considered to be the leaders. This is due to the power and moderate consumption of gasoline. And also the ability to vary the fuel using AI-95 and AI-92. This fact can only amuse our compatriots.
But the developers made one significant oversight: they neglected the main thing - maintainability, in pursuit of lightness and manufacturability.

What conclusions can be drawn from the above

The 1.6-liter engine boasts an aluminum cylinder block, timing belt and an injection system using an injector. In addition, the engine has a minimum fuel consumption: 7 liters per hundred.
The 2.0 engine is capable of being aggregated with an all-wheel drive system. This puts it head and shoulders above its competitors. Fuel consumption is only 8 liters per 100 kilometers.
The Creta motor cannot be called a perfect creation of technical thought. Although it outperforms its closest competitors. The advantages of Korean motors are reliability, power and economy.

Modern technologies in Hyundai Creta engines

Hyundai Creta mini-crossover appeared on the domestic market in 2016. The car was named after the Greek island of Crete and was originally conceived as a universal model. The Creta has received several modifications, among which there are several all-wheel drive options with a motor to choose from. The Creta engine is suitable for any driver and is designed for different types of driving.

Despite the large number of competitors, among which can be distinguished: Renault Kaptur, Kia Soul, Skoda yeti, new car quickly gained popularity among drivers. The Korean company tried to combine confident design and solid functionality, all at an affordable price.

It should be noted that they coped with the task quite well. The car received not only the original appearance, and quite a pleasant interior. But is everything under the hood as good as outside and inside? What is used in Creta timing or chain? Let's consider these questions in detail and try to answer them.

Hyundai Creta engine range

The engine is the heart of any car and the specialists of the Korean brand know this better than anyone else. Hyundai cars have always been distinguished by reliable engines with an increased resource and ease of use. They equipped the lineup the most optimal power units for such a body:

  • Gamma G4FG with a volume of 1.6 liters
  • Two liter Nu G4NA.

Older versions of these nodes have worked well: the owners often noted the absence of serious problems during operation. Engineers have refined the design of engines for the Hyundai Creta, thereby improving technical characteristics. These changes helped make the slightly outdated motors quite competitive. In the front-wheel drive version, there is a new generation of suspension at the rear (beam with vertical shock absorbers and changed attachment points) in front, nothing special: the usual McPherson.

The all-wheel drive modification is similar in design, but rear suspension independent with an electro-hydraulic clutch, similar technical solutions were used in Tucson and Santa Fe. In addition, variations of the car are distinguished by the power steering: on the basic hydraulic, and on the more expensive ones - electric.

Engine with a volume of 1.6

Which engine should the buyer choose? Let's start with volume 1.6. GAMMA G4FG has a decent power for such a volume, low level noise and has good indicators of environmental friendliness.

The updated engine has 123 horsepower, which is complemented by 155 Nm of thrust. The unit is distinguished by the following parameters:

  • aluminum block of cylinders;
  • two camshafts;
  • fuel rail injector;
  • separate ignition coils that go for each of the cylinders;
  • the use of a chain in the gas distribution mechanism;
  • intake and exhaust CVVT system.

These technical solutions made it possible to create a balanced motor that is unpretentious and economical. In addition, it can be refueled with 92 gasoline without losing traction, which is of great importance. Hyundai engineers have also optimized the software component, leaving electronic system management. The GAMMA G4FG engine can be combined with a 6-speed manual or automatic, depending on the selected configuration.

Two-liter motor

This engine variation is more dynamic and, like the first, is a modified version of the old unit and has the name G4KD. Updated motor has the same design with an aluminum block of cylinders, a timing chain and two shafts. In addition, valve lifters are present here, as a result of which the need for constant adjustment disappears.

Here, as in the 1.6 liter engine, there is a "dual" CVVT system, which is provided for both the intake and exhaust shafts. For the domestic market, the engine will be supplied with multipoint injection. The power of the two-liter "engine" is 150 hp. Similar to the previous engine, this modified MPI can be fueled with 92 gasoline.

One of the main innovations of the engine is the appearance of hydraulic lifters and roller levers in the valve drive. Thanks to this, it is not necessary to regularly check the valve clearances and the levers themselves, as a result of which reliability increases and the overall performance characteristics power unit: wear and fuel consumption are reduced, while the power, on the contrary, increases.

Thanks to the modernization, the maximum torque in the engine is available for more low revs... Like the first variant, the G4KD is combined with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission. The motor shows very good dynamics at above average revs and, in general, quite decent for such a car.

Conclusion

The undisputed network in Hyundai engines Creta and fly in the ointment. This is mainly due to the aluminum block. The units are high-tech, but have poor maintainability indicators.

Cast iron sleeves poured into the block are practically impossible to get, and there is no possibility of boring. Some owners say that the vehicle's resource is limited to two hundred thousand kilometers, while others say that they have "run over" more than 300.

In any case, the entire block can be changed, although it will cost a lot. The indisputable advantage of the Hyundai Creta is the ability to buy an economical car with a 1.6-liter engine, good power and four-wheel drive, which competitors obviously cannot boast of.

Crete's engines are not perfect, but if we compare them with competitors, we can conclude that they have a simple design, sufficient power and unpretentious operation, which is very important for a responsible driver. Over time, owners will be able to find out what the actual engine life is and draw appropriate conclusions.

The Korean company Hyundai has become popular among motorists due to the use of low-maintenance power units with balanced technical characteristics. Each model has unique motors, developed and manufactured in our own production facilities. Creta's line of crossovers is no exception. Consumers are offered such Hyundai Creta engines as:

  • 1.6 MPI;
  • 2.0 MPI.

Each of them runs on gasoline fuel. In addition, they are characterized by both positive aspects and disadvantages. There is a constant discussion in the community regarding the possibility of using other engine options. There is a need to use motors on diesel fuel, or instances with a turbocharger. On the other hand, what is currently available has long been familiar to domestic owners of other car models of the Korean brand. The modernization of the design has led to an increase in competitiveness, while maintaining the simplicity and reliability - something that is appreciated by Russian drivers.

1.6 MPI

The presented motor is part of the Gamma line with the designation G4FG. This is the most popular and best-selling Creta 1.6 engine, which is used in parallel in a number of other models. Vehicle... The line, although it cannot boast of the highest power indicators, was not taken as a basis by the engineers. The management set before them a fundamentally different task - to provide a "golden mean" between noise, performance, dimensions, environmental performance and economy. According to critics, the specialists were able to more than successfully cope with their mission.

The 1.6-liter Gamma G4FG engine is not fundamentally new development engineering laboratory of a Korean manufacturer. The basis is taken by another, no less popular Hyundai Gamma G4FC engine, which is very popular among Solaris owners. As for the performance indicators, considering the working volume, they are more than good - in the "stock" it is 123 horsepower... Traction - 155 Nm.

Hyundai 1.6 G4FG engine

If we consider the technological features of the presented engines, it is important to note here that the engineers decided to use a cylinder block made of aluminum. The design provides for two DOHC overhead camshafts. The gas distribution mechanism works thanks to a chain with a sufficiently high resource. The fuel system includes a multipoint injection system consisting of a rail and an injector. The intake mechanism is equipped with a constant variable valve timing system, called the abbreviation CVVT. The ignition system differs from that on some other engines in that the coils are now located separately - each of them is responsible for only one cylinder. As for the cylinders themselves, each of them received four valves.

An interesting decision was made for hydraulic lifters. They are now completely absent. An alternative is the gap adjustment system, which is mechanically adjusted every 90 thousand kilometers. The use of these technological solutions had a positive effect on the production of balanced engines capable of demonstrating a good safety margin, unpretentiousness, and also the ability of Hyundai Kreta to “digest” 92nd gasoline. Most importantly, the 1.6-liter engine has a moderate appetite.

The G4FG has a number of unique features. If we consider the key features, it is again worth highlighting the CVVT system, but here it is installed at the outlet and at the inlet immediately. Keeping the ECU from Bosch allowed for improved performance through some tweaking of the software. In total, the 129-horsepower motor is enough to comfortably ride around the city. But for those who find the 1.6-liter engine sluggish, it is highly recommended to pay attention to the two-liter version.

2.0 MPI

The Creta Nu G4NA 2.0 2.0-liter engine is not new. This is a significantly modified version of the two-liter aspirated G4KD. Initially, it was neither powerful nor economical. However, there were no complaints about him either. Nu G4NA 2.0 was first introduced in 2013. As for the design, in front of us is the same two-liter naturally aspirated engine, built on the basis of an aluminum cylinder block. The gas distribution mechanism has a chain drive. A two-shaft head and hydraulic valve lifters are mounted in parallel. As a result, the use of the latter allows drivers to avoid the need to constantly check and adjust them. On the other hand, there were some peculiarities.

Hyundai Nu G4NA 2.0 engine

As in the case of the 1.6-liter version, the CVVT system is also dual, that is, it is present at the inlet and outlet. Of greatest interest is fuel system... For Russian consumers, the manufacturer will initiate the supply of vehicles with conventional distributed injection. European buyers are more fortunate because they get direct injection engines and a modified CVVT system, where you can quickly adjust the height to which the valves are raised. As in the case of the less productive version, the power unit of the Creta 2.0 also supports the ability to run on 92 gasoline.

The intrigue has developed with the performance indicators. In the passport documentation, it ranges from 164 to 167 hp. For Russian consumers, the figures are more modest - 150 hp. There is a good reason for this - the owners do not have to spend more funds to pay tax fees. On the other hand, the decrease in performance is caused only by the software. You may ask - what does all this mean for the client, how can this data affect him? Everything is very simple - the buyer receives a car with a power lower than the declared one. If necessary, using a banal chip system, you can raise 14-17 forces without technical adjustments, while not being afraid that such changes will negatively affect the state of the power plant.

Based on the above, it can be noted that power units Cretes are characterized by good performance and efficiency. On the one hand, a potential buyer has a choice in favor of economy or dynamics. On the other hand, if you like it better two-liter motor, you can significantly increase dynamic characteristics a simple chip. If fuel consumption is more important, it is better to pay attention to the smaller 1.6 MPI model.
