After overstepping a short foray into the territory of real off-road and getting acquainted with the great and terrible, the heading "five things for which ..." returns to the cozy territory of "urban crossovers". However, is it really that cozy? Renault Kaptur has been waging a war with another vigorous upstart - Hyundai Creta for a month now, about which and which turned out to be, to put it mildly, not infallible ... So what prevents the "Frenchman" from gaining the upper hand?

Hate # 5: Back row crowded

When assembling a compact crossover, as in principle when creating any car of small dimensions, engineers solve this problem: why give a little more space in the rear of the car - the trunk or the rear row of seats? In Renault Kaptur, the problem was solved in favor of the trunk, here it has quite a decent 387 liters in its assets. But if you are more than 180 cm tall, you are hardly destined to sit on the back sofa with the proper comfort - there are few places in the knees when landing "by itself". This is not the biggest problem of Capture, but many owners note it.

Love # 5: rich options

But in terms of equipping with options, Capture is in complete order. Yes, there are those who complain about clearly “marketing” configurations, forcing instead of the “middle” to take almost “full stuffing”, but this is, perhaps, a common place for most car brands in the middle price segment. But those who have chosen rich configurations invariably praise multimedia, cruise control, as well as powerful heating and blowing of the windshield. And the price does not fly to sky-high heights - for a little over a million you can get an almost top-version. Many? But at Crete, more or less decent configurations are just beginning with this amount.

Hate # 4: poor visibility

A rather unexpected drawback for a modern crossover, because we all have long been accustomed to the wide body pillars of current cars - they are made as such in the name of passive safety. However, Kaptyur's front body pillars (the so-called "A" pillars), most likely, also have an extremely unsuccessful angle in terms of visibility - they are piled up to the roof so much that almost every second car owner rests on them with a glance - and writes a comment full of discontent about this. Small and uncomfortable side mirrors complete the picture, with which Kaptur continues the sad tradition laid down by Logan ... No, the mirrors are completely different, but, according to the owners, they still lack space.

Love # 4: high ground clearance

Maybe it's not really out of place, but the UAZ Patriot comes to mind again - we got this love for it with continuous reservations: for any plus of the car, there was always some "but". Everything is not so bad at Kaptyur, but here this idea can be traced - there are those who declare that the ground clearance is, they say, good, but more could have been done.

Note that these comrades are clearly one of those who moved from the Niva or (again, he, but what is that, holy, holy!) Patriot. But those who owned civilian "puzoterki" are delighted with the geometric cross-country ability of Kaptyura. Indeed, 204 mm of clearance (albeit passport ones, with an error) is necessary and sufficient in the conditions of an average Russian city, where Kaptyura really belongs.


Hate # 3: no cup holders

It is impossible to create a car that suits a Russian if there is nowhere to put a glass in it. But seriously, with the useful volumes and cavities in the Kaptura cabin, it turned out to be an obvious mistake. In addition to the rattling "gazelle" box with a lid on the "crown" of the front panel and rather modest pockets in the doors of containers, there is simply no place - there is absolutely nowhere to put any everyday trifles like flash drives, pens, business cards and coins in the interior of the crossover.

The only niche entrusted with these functions is under the dashboard, and it is clearly overloaded with functions - it contains a cigarette lighter, a four-wheel drive control washer (on 4x4 versions), and that notorious cup holder. It is too small, glasses of any size do not hold in it, and high ones also interfere with the gearbox selector. A cup holder for rear passengers is no better, nothing can be put into it.


Love # 3: informative steering wheel

And here we will make a reservation - there are also those who do not consider the steering wheel of Kaptura to be adequately informative. However, if we take into account the rather civilian image of the car, the large suspension travels and by no means a low center of gravity, it turns out that the steering of Kaptyur is really set up quite well. The electrohydraulic booster does not transfer too much road trifle to your hands (the exception is uneven turns at high speeds) and tells the steering wheel quite; the car stands well on the high-speed line. Yes, this is not a sports car, but there is some kind of rally enthusiasm in it - thanks to the precise steering wheel and good suspension (see below).


Hate # 2: a cheaply decorated salon

Ardor with enthusiasm, and a Russian person loves to be richer, but for a lifting price - whatever one may say, but from the inside you look at your car 90% of the time. And here Kaptyur gives a blunder - even the most loyal buyers of this car celebrate the cheap hard plastic of the interior. This drawback, as it were, continues the previous reason for hatred - everything is not very good with the Capture's interior, from the texture of the plastic to the lack of illumination of important areas and several illogically located buttons. Yes, these are all budgetary costs. And even though the ergonomics of the interior space is well verified, a fair number of owners visit the feeling that comfort is a little lacking.


Love # 2: good exterior

But passers-by hardly know about these sorrows - they still continue to turn heads at Kaptyur. Moderately catchy front end, laconic feed, harmony in the proportions of the silhouette and an interestingly designed lower part of the sidewall, in which a wide molding forms a kind of "waist". Capture looks lean and very topical - it looks like Renault's head office has finally realized that even a not too expensive car should not look like a steamed rutabaga. Both men and women celebrate Capture's good looks - a rather rare case when the unisex design worked as it should.



Hate # 1: lack of momentum

This appearance and character would match! But no, judging by the reviews, none of the "engine + transmission" options provides sufficient acceleration dynamics. Owners of versions 1.6 MKP, 1.6 AKP (of course) and even 2.0 (AKP) complain about the sluggish nature of acceleration. A rather elderly four-band "automatic", installed on Kaptyur, is trying its best to save fuel, tucking the top gear already at 65 km / h, but it also remains voracious, and does not add a fighting character to the car. Appearances are deceptive? Perhaps this is the case with Renault Kaptur.


Love # 1: a proven platform

But to put a new, in the style of "foreign" Captur, body on the proven "trolley" Duster was absolutely the right decision of the developers. The suspension, of course, was reconfigured, but it, having remained a little roll in the corners, still swallows irregularities of any type with a bang. It is dense and very long-travel - this is what most modern crossovers are very lacking, and, therefore, this is what Kaptyur is utterly superior to competitors in. It has excellent suspension settings. And that's great.


It is interesting that during the months of owning a new car, Kaptyur, as a rule, does not reveal any significant defects of an operational nature, which is quite rare nowadays. The same Creta, with which comparisons cannot be avoided today, have a sufficient number of acquired "stocks". However, the number of small but sensitive design flaws that Kaptyur has, albeit slightly, outweighs in the eyes of consumers the disadvantages of Crete, which has powerful motors, a solid interior and an equally rich scattering of options. Today, this is valued more than the absence of corrosion and electronics problems. Perhaps that is why Hyundai Creta is now in sixth place in the Russian Federation, and Renault Kaptur is only in seventeenth ...

But for both of these crossovers, which have recently appeared on the market, the "bouquet and candy" period of life with their owners from among the first purchasers has already come to an end. The new Renault Captur 2016 has only recently entered the Russian market, but has already gained such popularity that the French concern decided to export a Russian-assembled SUV to the CIS countries. The crossover itself is assembled in Russia, at the Renault Russia plant in Moscow, which was previously called Avtoframos. Rubber products are a clear drawback of Renault Captur. Perhaps the matter is in the composition of the rubber.

This is especially noticeable on the seals. A defect appears in clicks during door opening. On the rear doors, the seal next to the lower molding is most often problematic. In the process of opening, it breaks, crumples against the front door and turns out, and this field clings to the inner side of the molding. Naturally, such an element will not last long.

In addition, trouble begins with the upper front door seal - during opening, it touches the rear door element, as a result of which it folds back. A click is also heard.

As practice shows, the only solution is to contact a Renault dealership. However, some salons refuse to make a warranty replacement, arguing that the case is admissible. Of course, the owners of competing classmates can gloat and be in complete confidence that they have definitely made the right choice and bought the most reliable and problem-free car. But there are no ideal cars, and the fact that your favorite model has not yet appeared in this heading means only one thing: we just haven't gotten to it yet.

- The area of ​​the rear seat (the back part, where you can see the fastening bolt), there was not enough carpet, and also where is the hood opening handle (maybe just me?)
- The rear glass is not glued evenly (clearly visible)
- After installing the trailer (I removed the bumper for laying the wiring and connection), the plastic body kits of the rear wheel arches do not stand up normally, although everything is in place and all the latches are intact.
- I tried to sleep in the driver's seat ... I twisted it for an hour and drove on. The more you lower it, the steeper the protrusion rests against your lower back. I don’t know how anyone, but I’m complete crap. In Prior, Niva, Grant is better.
- Lack of factory roof rails (could have already been delivered in the latest configuration).

In the lineup of the Renault Kaptur company, it is not the first car of this class, but due to its more modern appearance, it significantly surpasses its classmate (Duster) in popularity. Pros:

The top engine is aggregated with a 6-speed manual transmission (TL8) or a 4-speed classic automatic (DP8). The advantages of the 1.6 engine include its unpretentiousness to fuel, with the recommended 95th it can be safely refueled with 92nd gasoline. Also, the obvious advantages are the low cost of repair and maintenance, the acceptable reliability of the unit.

The disadvantages of this motor include poor acceleration dynamics and the absence of hydraulic lifters - because of this, every 70-100 thousand km, it becomes necessary to adjust the valve clearances by selecting pushers. With the onset of cold weather, this engine has problems with starting; on many copies, an oil burner appears on the first thousand kilometers. A metal chain is used in the timing drive, here it is quite reliable and does not bother with early sprains.

The main advantages of a two-liter engine is a cast-iron cylinder block, resistant to thermal loads, camshafts and a crankshaft are made of the same material. In addition, the motor has a reputation as a reliable and unpretentious unit with an impressive resource of 300-400 thousand km. The disadvantages of this engine include a small resource of the phase regulator (50-70 thousand km) and individual ignition coils, floating engine speed, current oil seals and gaskets, increased engine noise. It is also possible to note malfunctions of the autostart system on both engines, insufficient dynamics and high fuel consumption (10-13 liters in the city). It is worth adding also floating engine speed with the heated windshield turned on when the car is fully warmed up (they increase on cold, but keep stable).

Transmission

As for the transmission, there are practically no complaints about the work of the mechanics, on the little things one can note the current oil seals, the fuzzy shifting of the gears, the increase in vibrations at idle. But the automatic transmission has certain drawbacks - jolts when switching, thoughtfulness before kick-down, sometimes illogical choice of gear, etc. At the same time, they praise him for maintainability and availability of spare parts. The disadvantages of the variator include a small resource of 150-200 thousand km, sensitivity to quality and service time, and high cost of repair or replacement. The all-wheel drive system is implemented using a GKN electromagnetic clutch. This system has no obvious disadvantages; the advantages include good driving characteristics and reliability of the mechanical part of the unit.

Undercarriage

Despite the fact that Renault Captur is built on a common platform with the Duster - B0, the suspension of these cars has significant differences. The Kaptur used a different front subframe and different front levers, there were reconfigured shock absorbers and springs. Such changes made it possible not only to achieve better handling, but also to maintain an acceptable level of energy consumption of the suspension. The advantages of the chassis include long suspension travel, reliability and good handling. Of the minuses, one can single out the appearance of noise when driving over bumps - clicks, knocks. The main source of the problem is the stabilizer struts, which may be asked for replacement after a couple of thousand kilometers. Fortunately, in the overwhelming majority of cases, they are changed under warranty.

Also, the cause of the appearance of noise can be a plastic wheel arch liner - it gets under the shock absorber spring. The reason is a sloppy installation at the dealership. Often the brakes are also a source of noise - when the brake pedal is pressed, a squeak occurs. Another weak point is the CV joint boot. The use of unsuccessful clamps, which pinch the low-quality rubber of the boot, leads to the rapid destruction of the boot. The ABS system is poorly adapted to our operating conditions, because of this, with the arrival of cold weather and slush on the roads, it begins to present unpleasant surprises in the form of failures. The reason is poor security of contacts. To avoid trouble, you will have to install additional moisture protection.

The interior design turned out to be quite emotional and modern. Only the steering wheel, the quality of the plastic, the multimedia system and little things in the manner of the seat heating buttons say about the family ties between Renault Kaptur and Duster in the cabin.

Advantages:
  1. Equipment- starting with the basic configuration, Renault Kaptur has an impressive list of equipment for this price: keyless start, air conditioning, an audio system with remote control, heated seats and mirrors, two airbags, ABS, ESP, HSA.
  2. Noise isolation- surprisingly (considering the cost of the car), it turned out to be of high quality.
  3. Comfortable front seats- many owners note the successful design of the front seats, claiming that they do not get tired even on long trips.
Disadvantages:
  1. Quality of finishing materials- Poor quality of finishing, especially the hard plastic of the interior, is noted by even the most loyal buyers of this car. The driver spends almost 90% of the time inside the car and only 10% near it, so the quality of interior trim materials for many plays an important role.
  2. Ergonomics- the buttons for turning on the seat heating are located at the end of their base, the cruise control button is also located in an inconvenient place, namely under the handbrake handle, the automatic transmission selector is devoid of indication of modes. The cup holder, a 12 volt outlet and the transmission mode switch were hidden in a niche for small things, it turned out very compact, but using it is quite problematic. Of course, you can get used to it over time, but why complicate things so much.
  3. Deflectors- most often problems arise with the central deflector. Cause: the hinge fails - the adjusting disc rotates, but the curtains remain stationary.
  4. Glove box- when strong vibrations appear, it spontaneously opens, when you try to close it, a skew arises. If at the same time all the fasteners are intact, it is unlikely that it will be possible to eliminate the trouble without contacting the service.
  5. Insufficient visibility- the front pillars of the body (the so-called “A pillars”) have an extremely unsuccessful angle in terms of visibility - they are piled up to the roof so much that almost every second car owner rests on them.

Renault Captur wins from many competitors not only for its attractive appearance, low cost of purchase and further maintenance, but a higher level of comfort and reliability. In addition, this model, even in the basic version, is endowed with such options that rivals in the class do not have even in the maximum configuration. Plus, Kaptur has good liquidity in the secondary market.
