The restyled version of the Skoda Yeti crossover, which appeared in Russia in early 2014, is built on the same platform with the Skoda Octavia A5 and. The PQ35 bogie used for all of these vehicles has a fully independent suspension: MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear. In terms of overall dimensions, Suzuki Vitara is also close to the Skoda Yeti.

The range of engines offered for the Czech model has undergone changes during the presence of the car on the Russian market. At the time of the start of sales in 2014, the crossover had the following motors in its arsenal:

  • 1.2 TSI 105 HP, 175 Nm. Turbocharged engine with compact head, single camshaft, 2 valves per cylinder, 1.6 bar supercharging and 150 bar direct injection.
  • 1.4 TSI 122 HP, 200 Nm. Gasoline four-cylinder "turbo-four" with direct injection into the combustion chambers, a small turbine with a boost pressure of 1.8 bar and phase shifters at the inlet.
  • 1.8 TSI 152 hp, 250 Nm. The most powerful petrol unit available is installed on the all-wheel drive modification of the Skoda Yeti.
  • 2.0 TDI 140 HP, 320 Nm The only diesel engine with a volume of 1968 cc. with battery injection and variable geometry turbine. It has several options for boosting, in this case a 140-horsepower version of the engine is used. Diesel only works in four-wheel drive configuration.

In 2015, the Skoda Yeti motor range was adjusted. The 1.2 TSI turbine gave way to a 1.6-liter "aspirated" engine that has undergone modernization. Updated engine with 110 hp. and a peak torque of 155 Nm since the end of 2015 has been assembled at the plant in Kaluga. In addition to the Skoda Yeti, a number of other models received such a motor. Other changes in the powertrain lineup are the replacement of the 122-horsepower 1.4 TSI with a 125-horsepower version with improved technical characteristics and the exclusion of the 2.0 TDI turbodiesel.

Thus, the list of Yeti modifications, current for 2016-2017, looks like this:

  • 1.6 MPI 110 hp, 155 Nm + 5-speed manual transmission;
  • 1.6 MPI 110 HP, 155 Nm + 6-speed automatic transmission;
  • 1.4 TSI 125 HP, 200 Nm + 6MKPP;
  • 1.4 TSI 125 HP, 200 Nm + 7DSG;
  • 1.8 TSI 152 hp, 250 Nm + 6DSG + all-wheel drive.

The Skoda Yeti all-wheel drive system is based on the 5th generation Haldex clutch. With its help, up to 90% of the torque can be directed to the rear axle, by default, almost all of the thrust is sent forward. The ground clearance of 180 mm, coupled with the all-wheel drive transmission, allows for off-road excursions.

The 125-horsepower 1.4 TSI has the best efficiency among the Skoda Yeti engines. Regardless of the gearbox, it consumes on average about 5.8 liters of gasoline per 100 km. The fuel consumption of an all-wheel drive modification with a top 152-horsepower engine is about 8 liters.

Yeti is a front- or all-wheel drive SUV of the compact segment and, in combination, the first car of a "similar format" in the history of the Czech automaker Skoda, which organically combines the features of crossovers and minivans ...

The main target audience of the five-door is family people with one or more children, with an income above average, who value, in the "iron horse", first of all, unique design, reliability, safety, comfort and functionality ...

"Yeti" is based on a "front-wheel drive" platform called Volkswagen PQ35 - this aggregate base is well known from many Skoda and Volkswagen models (however, the closest relative to the Czech crossover is still the first generation Tiguan). The machine has a supporting body structure, in the load-bearing structure of which high-strength steels are widely used.

Security

It is worth noting that back in 2009 the car became a "round excellent" according to the results of the European crash tests Euro NCAP, earning the maximum possible "5 stars".

But it should be borne in mind that the test car was "in the European basic", ie. equipped with seven airbags and active front head restraints, while those sold in Russia have a maximum number of airbags - six (and there are two of them in the "base").

The first crossover in the history of the Czech automaker was "born" in March 2009 - its international debut took place at the Geneva Motor Show ...

In September 2013, the restyled Skoda Yeti appeared in all its glory at the stands of the Frankfurt Motor Show to the world community.

As a result of the renovation, the SUV has seriously changed its appearance (but in particular - the full face, having received more restrained headlight units instead of the recognizable round optics), acquired small metamorphoses in the cabin, "armed" with a new environmentally friendly engine and received new options.
Another important innovation is the emergence of an all-terrain modification called Outdoor.

The Czech SUV stopped its serial "career" at the beginning of 2018 - it was replaced by a new SUV called Karoq.

Yeti on the Russian market

Skoda Yeti, although a belated participant in the "crossover boom", but it very successfully "fit into the market", and even distinguished itself by a number of interesting features.

For example, it pleasantly surprises with its original, "minivan" body folding, as well as an ergonomic, practical and functional interior.

In addition, a significant role in the success of the crossover was played by the "German ancestry", and in general, the good reputation of the Czech automaker in the eyes of Russian consumers.

In the Russian market, the Skoda Yeti had a really hard time, since it has more than enough competitors. The most obvious of them are: Subaru XV, Nissan Qashqai and Terrano, Jeep Compass, Suzuki Vitara and SX4, Mitsubishi ASX, Renault Kaptur and Hyundai Creta ... the compact SUV segment, in terms of dimensions it is more comparable to subcompact SUVs.

Exterior

Outside, "Yeti" can hardly be called a model of beauty and harmony, and it is not particularly perceived as a full-fledged SUV - the car with its outlines rather resembles commercial "heels". But originality is the main horse of the five-door, because this is what it catches the eye, without causing any rejection, and upon closer examination, it begins to surprise at all with its ingenuous charm.

The pre-styling crossover is incredibly easy to recognize, especially from the front - it flaunts a "four-eyed face" with round foglights that mate directly with the head optics.

After the upgrade, the Skoda Yeti has lost this "zest", attaching restrained lighting equipment and fog lights to the front, located in their traditional places - on the sides of the lower part of the bumper.

In addition, the redesigned car gives out more angular bumpers, taillights with C-shaped brake lights and LED sections, as well as a trapezoidal niche for the number plate (instead of the previous rectangular one).

On top of that, the restyled SUV can be found in two versions - City and Outdoor.

The "urban" modification is distinguished by bumpers and moldings painted in body color and its own line of alloy wheels, while the "suburban" one has off-road decor in the form of unpainted plastic "armor" along the perimeter of the body and front pseudo-protection (that is, a silver lining on the bumper).

As the saying goes “there are no comrades for the taste and color” - someone likes “Yeti”, in others it causes conflicting feelings, while others simply frightens with its originality.

And, it would seem - what significant disadvantages can a car so "sharpened for practicality" have? However, they are, and very significant:

  • Low quality iron and paint. The paint quickly swells at the chipped sites - this phenomenon is most often observed in the area of the rear wheel arches and on all four doors. It is for this reason that it is recommended to wash the car as often as possible, but especially in the winter period after driving along the streets treated with reagents.

    In addition, after a few years of operation, the logos on the hood and tailgate begin to peel off the crossover, and chrome also darkens.

  • Far from ideal aerodynamics, which makes this SUV a terrible "muddy": in bad weather, the side windows in the area of the mirrors are quickly splashed with mud (noticeably limiting the view), as well as the tailgate, rear window and bumper.
  • "Delicate" windshield and headlights. The lobovik is quickly overwritten and scratched, and chips appear on it very readily, while the headlights become cloudy.

Weight and dimensions

The manufacturer Skoda Yeti is positioned as a compact SUV (although it is even inferior in size to many models of the subcompact category): its length fits into 4222 mm (of which the wheelbase "extends" to 2578 mm), the width is 1793 mm, and the height does not exceed 1691 mm.

The ground clearance of the off-road vehicle is 180 mm, while the size of the front and rear track is 1541 mm and 1537 mm, respectively.

Regarding the curb and full weight, these indicators for the car depend on the modification:

Interior

Thoughtful minimalism reigns inside the Skoda Yeti - the car's interior looks thoroughly calibrated and surprisingly "grown-up", but it upsets with excessive restraint and even gloom.

True, such an unremarkable design is more than compensated for by impeccable ergonomics, solid finishing materials and good build quality - as they say, everything here is smart and everything is on the case, but boring.

At the driver's seat - academic order: in the direct jurisdiction of the "pilot" there are exemplary "instrumentation" with two "wells" in which the analog dials are placed, and the "window" of the onboard computer between them, as well as a three-spoke steering wheel.

In the initial versions, the "steering wheel" is extremely simple in appearance and devoid of any additional features, but in the "advanced" trim levels it can boast of versatility, a more developed relief with tides in the grip area and chrome and glossy decor.

By default, the laconic center console is "decorated" with a pair of symmetrical ventilation deflectors, a two-din radio with a monochrome display and three neat "washers" of the air conditioning system.
A bit of "elegance" in expensive versions is exalted by the color 7-inch touchscreen of the multimedia complex, under which there is a visual block of a two-zone "climate" and five control buttons for secondary functions.

In general, in the Yeti salon it is difficult to seriously find fault with anything, however, there is the same “fly in the ointment” here:

  • Poor visibility - wide A-pillars and a low seat force the driver to actively twist their head around, especially when maneuvering at intersections with pedestrian crossings.
  • In general, the build quality of the car is good, however, the plastic panels of the struts and the ceiling begin to "groan" on irregularities even with low mileage.
  • "Cold" interior (especially in versions with low-volume engines), or to be more precise - a long warm-up. When the frost is below -20 ° C at idle, it takes at least half an hour to warm up the "apartments", while more or less warm inside becomes only after the start of movement.
  • And also the uneven heating of the interior decoration: for example, it can be hot in the car, but the legs will freeze, if the legs are comfortable, then foggy windows overcome, and if you need to provide normal heat to the inhabitants of the second row, the front ones will feel like they are in the "Sahara" ...

Despite the modest wheelbase, the Skoda Yeti interior pleasantly surprises with its spaciousness - even five adults can sit here without any problems. Front riders rely on ergonomically profiled seats with pronounced lateral support bolsters, dense padding and a wide range of adjustments (including height).

In the "base" the car does not have any additional amenities, but in more expensive versions there is a central front armrest, as well as heating, electric drive and seat memory.

The organization of the second row of the crossover is almost exemplary among competitors (and not only). The five-door has a sofa with an optimal shape and filling, divided into three parts, as well as a solid supply of free space on all fronts, without exception.
At the same time, rear passengers are not deprived of comfort elements - the "gallery" moves in the longitudinal direction in the range of 15 cm and has a backrest adjustable in tilt angle (in four fixed positions), folding tables stick out in the front seats, and ventilation deflectors are located on the floor central tunnel ...

But that's not all - in the "top" trim levels, the transformation of the interior allows you to make the car a four-seater by removing the central narrow part of the sofa and moving the side seats closer to each other.

If we take into account the "dry" numbers, then in terms of internal capacity, the compact SUV has the following indicators:

Luggage compartment

At first glance, it may seem that in terms of carrying capacity, the Skoda Yeti simply has nothing to brag about - the car has a rather modest volume, but has an almost regular shape of the trunk, which, in addition to everything, is flavored with fastening nets and practical hooks.

In its normal state, it is able to accommodate 322 liters of luggage (under the shelf), but the second row moving "along the sled" allows you to increase this figure to 405 liters.

But most of all, the crossover impresses with its transformation capabilities - the "gallery" is folded in three sections in the ratio "40:20:40", which brings the capacity of the "hold" to 1665 liters. In addition, the rear seats can be completely dismantled (both completely and in parts), as well as take out the small "spare wheel" with tools and unscrew the foam caches hidden under the raised floor - in this case, the useful volume will be 1760 liters and you get even cargo area.

And that's not all - on some Yeti you can find a front seat with a folding back (optional equipment), which allows you to transport items up to 2.5 meters long in the cabin.

Specifications

On the Russian market, the Czech crossover is offered with a wide range of power units:

  • Gasoline "turbo four" TSI (installed by default on pre-styling versions) with a working volume of 1.2 liters (1197 cm³) with direct injection, variable valve timing and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, developing 105 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 175 Nm of torque at 1500-3500 rpm.
  • Gasoline 1.6-liter (1598 cm³) "aspirated" MPI (became the base after the update) with four in-line cylinders, distributed "power" system, variable valve timing technology and 16 valves, which generates 110 hp. at 5800 rpm and 155 Nm of peak thrust at 3800 rpm.
  • A 1.4-liter (1395 cc) TSI petrol engine with a cast iron block, compact turbocharger, direct fuel injection, intake phase shifters and 16-valve timing, producing 125 hp. at 5000-6000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1400-4000 rpm.
  • 1.8-liter (1798 cc) TSI "four" with turbocharging, direct fuel supply, variable valve timing and DOHC timing with 16 valves, which produces 152 hp. at 5000 rpm and 250 Nm of rotational potential at 1500 rpm.
  • The only diesel - 2.0 TDI (1968 cm³) with a battery injection system, a variable geometry turbocharger, a two-stage oil pump and a 16-valve timing, producing 140 hp. at 4000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm.

The Skoda Yeti also has a wide range of gearboxes:

  • The naturally aspirated engine combines 5-speed "mechanics" or 6-band hydromechanical "automatic".
  • The 1.2 and 1.4 liter turbochargers in tandem are assigned a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-band DSG "robot" with "dry" clutches.
  • Engines 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI relies on an uncontested robotic gearbox DSG with six stages with "wet" discs.

On the crossover modification with 1.2-, 1.4- and 1.6-liter units, only a front-wheel drive transmission is installed, while only the all-wheel drive system "built" on the basis of the Haldex electronically controlled clutch is connected to the "older" engines (on the pre-styling models - the fourth generation, and on the updated ones - the fifth).

By the way, in the company itself, the all-wheel drive "Yeti" is called permanent, and they are partly right - even in ideal conditions, the clutch works with a small preload (sending 10% of the thrust to the rear axle wheels), and if the road situation worsens, the automation can send up to 50 % of the moment.

In general, Skoda Yeti can boast of fairly reliable engines, which are able to travel 200-300 thousand km before overhaul.

However, none of them were without troubles:

All gasoline turbo engines are supplied with a timing chain drive - theoretically, the chain is designed for the entire life of the engine, but in practice it requires replacement after 100-120 thousand km. At the same time, they are characterized by such a problem as the chain jumping over the gear teeth due to stretching and the connivance of an unsuccessful tensioner, which in the most unfavorable circumstances can lead to the repair of the "heart" with bent valves.

Among other things, common misfortunes for "turbo-fours" are unpleasant vibrations at idle, demanding fuel quality, increased "oil consumption" and long warm-up in severe frosts.

The "aspirated" SUV, the only one in the range, does not cause much trouble, but requires renewal of the timing belt at least every 100-120 thousand km. In addition, such a unit with high mileage may have a high oil consumption, but, as a rule, this is solved by replacing the camshaft seal seals.

As for the 2.0 TDI turbodiesel, it is one of the least problematic engines under the Yeti's hood. True, the guarantee of his long and happy life is high-quality diesel fuel: in this case, expensive injectors and high-pressure fuel pumps will last at least 100 thousand km. The timing belt is able to "pass" about the same amount, but then it is better to replace it.

The manual transmissions installed on the crossover are reliable and unpretentious, not causing any special complaints. As a rule, they may require a certain intervention only with a mileage of more than 100 thousand km - for example, replacing differential bearings, leaking oil seals and clutch. According to the regulations, the oil in the manual gearbox of the five-door is filled for the entire service life, but it is advisable to renew it every 60 thousand km.

From the unpleasant - in severe frosts, "manual" transmissions have problems with the inclusion of the first two gears, which is solved by warming up for 5-10 minutes at idle.

The classic 6-speed "automatic" is also good on the Czech off-road vehicle: firstly, it works without kicks and freezes; secondly, with a timely oil change (every 60-80 thousand km), it can serve the entire life of the car.

The robotic DSG7 with dry clutches is one of the weakest points of the Skoda Yeti, especially in the early models. It not only causes inconvenience with "jerky" work, but also does not differ in an increased resource - its most problematic places are the "mechatronics" block and the clutch, which can "run out" after 20-30 thousand km.

"Wet" DSG6 gearbox is much more reliable and, with timely maintenance (oil and filter change every 60 thousand km), it will not cause any serious trouble to the owner.

The common attack of the DSG robots is that they are not very fond of Russian frosts - for normal driving in the cold season, at least a short (5-10 minutes) warming up of the car at idle is required.

Otherwise, in the "Drive" mode, unpleasant vibrations and knocking can be annoying, and an error on the screen of the on-board computer can be an eyesore.

All-wheel drive modifications of the SUV are equipped with a Haldex clutch - the main thing here is to renew the oil every 60 thousand km: if this procedure is neglected, the electric booster pump may fail, the repair of which will cost a pretty penny.

In general, the Czech crossover demonstrates good off-road potential - it is able to plow paths where many of its "classmates" simply will not reach, and all thanks to the same electronically controlled clutch, which skillfully distributes the moment, works with preload and works without delay.

As for the indicators of dynamics and efficiency, here at Skoda Yeti things are as follows:

Chassis

Standard "Yeti" is equipped with independent suspensions:

  • a MacPherson-type design with lower wishbones is used at the front,
  • behind - a multi-link system with one longitudinal and three wishbones.

“Around” - with coil springs and anti-roll bars.

As for the chassis, here the crossover can be considered a "round excellent student" - it holds a straight line with reinforced concrete, even if the asphalt is damaged by the track. To many, the "hodovka" of this five-door will initially seem a bit harsh, since it unnecessarily conveys the profile of the roadway to the senses, but almost everyone in the end recognizes it as really comfortable - the suspension copes with all large potholes and does not allow swinging on the waves.

But the main advantage of the chassis is the highest endurance: it does not cause any trouble and does not need serious intervention, even at high mileage. Unless only at the turn of 70-100 thousand km, the stabilizer struts will have to be replaced, and nothing more.

Steering

Regardless of the configuration "Yeti" is equipped with rack and pinion steering with an electromechanical amplifier.

Maneuverability is one of the main advantages of this compact crossover: it perfectly takes turns, even despite its high silhouette, allows you to confidently maneuver in dense city traffic and easily avoid obstacles that suddenly appear on the way.

In addition, the car boasts an almost perfect power amplifier setting - its steering wheel is light, but informative.

Brake system

Disc brakes are applied on all wheels of the car, but if on the rear axle they are conventional, then on the front axle they are ventilated, with a single-piston floating caliper.

The five-door and the brakes do not deserve any complaints - they quite effectively cope with the tasks assigned to them.

In terms of reliability, there are no special problems here, except that every 30-40 thousand km it is worth changing the front brake pads, and every 80 thousand km - the rear ones (but these are consumables).

Prices and equipment

In the secondary market of Russia, you can find many supported Skoda Yeti variants with a wide range in price, and the most common cars are with a 1.2-liter engine, a "robot" and a front-wheel drive transmission, while diesel variants, on the contrary, are extremely rare.

Crossovers of the early years of production are offered at a price of ≈400 thousand rubles, versions with a turbodiesel will cost from ≈600 thousand rubles, and all-wheel drive modifications with a 1.8-liter engine start at ≈450 thousand rubles *.

If you want a restyled car, then you should prepare at least ≈ 500 thousand rubles for a low-power version with front-wheel drive, and for a version with a 1.8 TSI engine and an all-wheel drive system, you will have to pay from ≈700 thousand rubles *.

The “freshest” copies of the off-road vehicle cannot be bought cheaper than ≈800-850 thousand rubles for simple configurations, while for the “top-end” versions you will have to pay from ≈1.2 million rubles *.

As for the equipment, in the "base" Skoda Yeti has:

  • two front airbags;
  • black roof rails;
  • electromechanical power steering;
  • power windows for the front doors;
  • interior transformation system VarioFlex;
  • air conditioning;
  • 16-inch steel wheels;
  • heating and electric drive of outside mirrors;
  • cooled glove box;
  • audio preparation with four speakers;
  • electric heating of the washer nozzles.

"Top" configurations are able to boast of a much more "tasty" list of equipment (however, they could be retrofitted with the widest number of options):

  • six airbags;
  • dual-zone climate control;
  • 17-inch alloy wheels;
  • Cruise control;
  • heated front seats;
  • four power windows;
  • audio system with eight speakers;
  • multifunction steering wheel with leather sheath;
  • fog lights;
  • stabilization system (ESP);
  • help function when starting up the hill;
  • LED taillights.

* as of the beginning of 2019.

In general, the Skoda Yeti is an amazingly versatile car that can hardly be called unambiguously a family, youth or old man. This is a comfortable and functional crossover with "nimble" motors, high-quality performance and impressive interior transformation capabilities, allowing a little more ordinary cars and not annoying with serious problems.

If you need a car for purely urban operation or long-distance travel on the highway, then almost any version of it is suitable here, however, for off-road trips (although, of course, it can hardly be called such), the choice is limited only to modifications with 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines. because only they have an all-wheel drive system. The same versions will be the most preferable for those who like dynamic driving, as they have the best power ratings.

If reliability is a priority, it is best to pay attention either to cars with manual or automatic transmissions, or again to solutions with 1.8- and 2.0-liter engines.

Skoda Yeti's entry into the Russian market cannot be called successful. The car appeared back in 2009, then its appearance went almost unnoticed: someone laughed at the design, and someone did not perceive the budget crossover for a high price. But in 2012 Bigfoot's business got better due to two reasons - a more serious design and a cheaper version with a 1.2 TSI engine and a robotic gearbox.

We invite all motorists to familiarize themselves with this model, and see what technical characteristics the car has received. We will also test the car in action to find out how much the characteristics correspond to the description. The updated design will not be left without attention. Go!

General acquaintance

Yeti is a front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive crossover of the Czech company Skoda. The car was built on the basis of the fifth generation VW Golf hatchback. It has existed on the Russian market since 2009. The latest version of the car is delivered to Russia in three trim levels (Active - budget version, Ambition - medium, Elegance - top), for which 4 engines are available:

  • The first 1.2 TSI engine with 105 "horsepower" can be supplied in a budget or medium configuration. Along with it comes only a 6-speed manual transmission. Its approximate fuel consumption per 100 kilometers is 6.4 liters;
  • The second unit was the 1.2 TSI with 105 hp. and a 7-speed DSG gearbox. This engine can be installed in any configuration. Its mixed fuel consumption per 100 km is 6.4 liters;
  • The third 1.4 TSI engine comes with a 7-speed DSG and has 122 horsepower and a fuel consumption of 6.8 liters per 100 km. Also available in all trim levels;
  • And the last variant is the 1.8 TSI with all-wheel drive, 6-speed DSG and 152 hp. available only in mid and top configurations. Its fuel consumption is 8 liters per 100 km.

Unfortunately, diesel does not reach Russia (2.0-liter engine with 140 hp). The premium version of Elegance differs from other trim levels only in the choice of engines and filling. Top versions, which have received all-wheel drive, can be equipped with a special system that helps off-road. They also include a downhill assistance system.

Since 2014, a new Yeti has appeared with a redesigned design and some innovations: the modification with the new name Outdoor does not differ much from the car that we described above, the changes only affected the design, new suspensions and additional engine protection appeared.

Drive

Having seen the technical characteristics of the car, you can also evaluate the main parameters in the Skoda Yeti. And also find out for whom the small-run Yeti will be interesting, and who should look at it, and who should not. There is a 1.2 TSI engine in a variety of cars that belong to the Volkswagen concern. The company does not hesitate to install the unit on both workhorses (for example, the Volkswagen Caddy) and B-class hatchbacks.

But in a crossover, he meets for the first time and therefore many drivers are interested in how he will cope with his task. After all, we know that small-run turbocharged engines have begun to be mastered by manufacturers in the framework of the struggle to reduce toxicity and obtain efficiency. But in reality, the effect is the opposite: in order for the car to "drive", the motor has to be spun up. And the consumption runs up no less if the unit of the usual volume was in the car. What happened in the case of the Skoda Yeti?

It turned out as usual: on one side of the engine, a single-drive car is enough to briskly ride around the city, effectively starting from a traffic light under the surprised looks of other drivers. The 7-speed DSG gearbox is quickly mastered, and then, skillfully manipulating the gas medal, you can rush at high speed. In general, the Skoda Yeti is a pretty nimble car that has a low-power engine. The Czechs reaffirm that balance is the most important thing. In this example, we can observe how a car with a weak engine produces high performance.

According to the passport, acceleration to 100 kilometers takes 12 seconds. But this is on a straight road and from the spot. Feelings from the response and driving on the pedal differ from the passport data. But no miracle happened: fuel consumption with moderate driving on empty roads can easily keep the waste in the region of 8 liters per 100 kilometers. But it is worth standing in a traffic jam for a while, as the flow rate rises to 10 liters. If you give all your best and ride only during rush hour, then on the on-board computer you can see the figure of 12 l / 100 km. Therefore, you should not expect from the Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSI beyond efficiency. But the dynamics of this car is at the highest level.

The steering is also just a pleasure: it is informative and very transparent, the Skoda Yeti drives at the level of some hatchback. Only in corners it rolls a little more than a hatchback. On the track, the car holds the road with dignity, without shaking and unnecessary swaying. What's really odd about the Yeti is the suspension: it can be soft on tight corners and stiff on bumps. It is not recommended to storm a speed bump at 40 km per hour - it will shake you heartily.

Dimensions and luggage compartment

Let's now take a look at the dimensions and ground clearance of the Yeti:

  • The ground clearance in this car is 180 millimeters. This clearance is considered average for crossovers;
  • Wheelbase dimensions - 2580 mm;
  • Length - 4220 mm;
  • Width - 1790 mm;
  • Height - 1690 mm;
  • The Skoda Yeti weighs 1345 kilograms.

Such dimensions indicate that the crossover is quite compact and lightweight, which significantly increases maneuverability.

Skoda Yeti got a great trunk. Despite the compact body, the trunk of this car has a volume of 405 liters. And this is only with the back row. It is impossible not to mention the possibilities of changing the rear row. Due to the transformation, the trunk becomes significantly larger. All three chairs can individually fold their backrests parallel to the floor. And if there is a desire, then they can generally be folded to the front row of seats, and thereby creating a huge additional trunk.

If we take into account the vertical lid with which the trunk is equipped, then a lot of cargo can be placed in the car. By the way, in Europe, this car was recently recognized as one of the most successful models for a family that prefers outdoor activities. And this is not surprising: a voluminous trunk where you can put a lot of useful things for travel, a relatively affordable waste of gasoline and top-level safety equipment. After reviewing all the technical specifications, we can take a general look at the interior and end our Skoda Yeti review.

A few words about design

In addition to unusual optics, the Skoda Yeti can be distinguished by such unusual appearance details as the chopped line of the front end and the roof itself, this car even got an angular front glass. The rear part of the body also cannot boast of a smooth transition of lines, the luggage compartment lid is completely perpendicular to the ground - it resembles the shape of a car "heel". Nevertheless, the car looks stylish, the latest reystaling brought only positive results for the Skoda Yeti.

The Outdoor modification claims to be an SUV. But what signs of an SUV did she get? There is an unpainted underbody section that is not afraid of chips or scratches. Also, the black bumper adds a bit of wildness to the design. What turned out to be unfortunate is the protective front and rear bumpers, which serve the opposite purpose: any impact on something hard with such "protection" will lead to a dent, while the dark plastic would not care.

If we talk about the geometric cross-country ability in the Skoda Yeti, then it is quite modest indicators: 26 degrees at the rear and 19.4 at the front. If we compare with Nissan Qashqai, then our Bigfoot will be stronger than him in off-road capabilities. An important role is played by the clearance and dimensions of the car, which are suitable for conquering unknown places.

As for the Yeti interior, it is made at the highest level even for the most budgetary configuration - all the necessary elements are at hand, the system control keys are intuitively located. Safety systems ABS, ESP, EBD are present, which is very important. The driver will be able to sit behind the wheel with ease and growth under two meters - there is a lot of free space for both passengers and the driver. His seat is customizable in all respects, as is the steering wheel.

Outcomes

We have studied all the important aspects of this Skoda model. Of the main advantages of the Yeti, one can single out a huge trunk, an affordable waste of gasoline, size, excellent dynamics and a spacious interior. The car does not have high power, it is a calm and safe assistant for the family. High ground clearance allows you to go on light off-road and not be afraid of curbs when parking. But this is the Yeti - a city car that loves to get out into nature.

For any automaker, the restyling procedure is not so much upgrading a car to warm up consumer interest in it, as working on mistakes. Especially over those that brand fans constantly complain about. As a rule, we are talking about various design, technological, economic, marketing and design mistakes. Apparently, the Czech company Skoda decided that their Yeti crossover was already perfect, so the head optics was the only mistake actually corrected during the restyling, minor innovations do not count. Well, they have a right. Read all the details about the "updated" Yeti in our review!

Design

It's no secret that the main limiting factor for the sales of the first Yeti was a non-trivial appearance. Skoda fans who are not ready for experiments, who are accustomed to the conservative Czech style, did not like the Bigfoot at all: it looked too cartoonish and frivolous against the background of other models of the brand. On the other hand, the public liked it more open to new ideas, but such an audience was not enough for successful sales.

In connection with the failures of the first generation car, the Czechs thought about it and decided to redraw the main controversial element of the Yeti - the head lighting equipment. And at the same time, they took up the revision of the bumpers, the radiator grille and, for the sake of symmetry, the taillights. As a result, "Bigfoot" frowned and became more strict, solid and ... a little boring. The only thing that completely retained its originality in its appearance is the visual division of the body into the driver's and the passenger-and-freight parts. Evil tongues argue that Yeti is for retirees and people burdened with all the hardships of family life, but it is difficult to agree with this, given the decent dynamics and many "smart" solutions that progressive motorists value so much. Yeti - for those who know a lot about solid and practical cars.

Design

The crossover is built on the basis of the larger old Skoda Octavia: from it he borrowed a "bogie" with a McPherson front suspension and a rear multi-link, as well as supercharged engines and an all-wheel drive system with a Haldex clutch. True, unlike the pre-reform version, equipped with a 4th generation electro-hydraulic clutch, the restyled version received a 5th generation mechanism, which is lighter and faster. The new clutch works with constant preload and transfers 4 percent of the traction to the rear axle even under standard conditions, but it does not completely lock and in the absence of grip on the front wheels can send back no more than 90 percent of the moment.

Adaptation to Russian conditions

With the Yeti, like other Skoda cars, primarily positioned as a family car, it should come as no surprise that its off-road capabilities are limited, even with the all-wheel-drive version. Still, its 180-mm ground clearance and good geometry of short bumpers are not enough to conquer the Russian off-road. But for the city and the suburban primer - a completely different matter. For the harsh Russian winter, Bigfoot has heated front seats, side mirrors and windshield washer nozzles. An electric heated windshield and a parking heater are available for a surcharge, as well as two-zone climate control Climatronic (in the "base" - an ordinary air conditioner).

Comfort

In the cabin, the changes are minimal: like the restyled Skoda Superb, there are new steering wheel and DSG gearshift lever, and that's it. In general, this is good, because the Yeti salon can be considered an example of ergonomics and comfort anyway. The seats on the 1st row have a neutral shape and profile, which makes them comfortable for riders of any size. For comfort, high growth will not become an obstacle, since the seats have a wide range of adjustments, and the steering column is adjustable both in height and in reach. The 2nd row is not very spacious, but this is more than compensated by the incredible functionality of the rear seats. The sofa is divided into 3 parts, each of which moves, tilts, folds or is completely dismantled. It is noteworthy that such a solution is usually used in minivans, but not in compact crossovers.

Skoda has definitely learned attention to detail from the parent carmaker Volkswagen: drawers, hooks, shelves, slats, cup holders, pockets, straps and fasteners eloquently testify to this. Even the buckles of the seat belts have special clips. The Yeti's luggage compartment is not the most spacious in the class, but it is well-organized. When the rear sofa is folded, its volume increases from 405 liters. up to an impressive 1580 hp A full-size spare wheel is traditionally kept in the boot underground. In addition, after restyling, a flashlight appeared in the cargo compartment - another "smart" solution from Skoda.

In crash tests of the European independent organization Euro NCAP Yeti earned 5 stars out of 5, demonstrating excellent results: driver or adult protection - 92%, child-passenger protection - 78%, pedestrian protection - 46%, safety devices - 71%. The standard equipment, which is far from poor, helped to get good marks, which includes front airbags, an Era-Glonass panic button, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and a stability control system (ESP). More expensive trim levels include side airbags, curtains, cruise control and an uphill start assistant. For a surcharge, you can purchase a rear view camera, parking sensors, driver fatigue sensor, knee airbag, as well as an anti-theft alarm with volume, roll sensors and an autonomous siren.

The car's entertainment systems have not undergone any changes. The base Yeti has a simple radio preparation with an antenna and 4 speakers, and the top one has a two-din radio with 8 speakers, an SD card slot, Bluetooth wireless protocol and AUX / USB connectors for connecting mobile devices. For a full-fledged multimedia complex Amundsen with navigation, you will have to pay extra. Both the head unit and Amundsen have quite acceptable sound. Optional "multimedia" pleases with quick response and image quality. In addition to it, the Swing and Bolero audio systems are also available.

Skoda Yeti Specifications

Yeti has three engines today, and all gasoline. The base 1.6-liter MPI engine with multipoint injection develops 110 hp. and 155 Nm, combined with a five-speed "mechanics" or with a six-speed automatic transmission. An intermediate option is a 125-horsepower 1.4-liter TSI engine. (200 Nm), which is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, or with a 7-speed "robot" DSG, and the top version is a 1.8-liter TSI engine with 152 hp. (250 Nm). The latter is in tandem with a six-speed DSG transmission and, unlike the others, is combined with all-wheel drive. According to the manufacturer, the average fuel consumption is between 5.8 and 8 liters. per 100 km, depending on the modification. It should be borne in mind that the real "appetite" may be greater.
