Not so long ago, the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant presented its next novelty - UAZ Pickup 2017-2018 in a new body (photo, configuration, specifications, prices, video and test drive). In fact, this is the same Patriot model, only this type of body has a higher carrying capacity.

This new product from the Russian Federation will be equipped with only one uncontested power unit that runs on gasoline. Volume power plant is 2.7 liters, and the power is 134.6 hp. Previously, a 2.2-liter diesel unit was also installed on the model, but for now the manufacturer decided to move away from using this engine. Only the manual transmission will work with the unit. It is worth noting that the gasoline engine boasts a relatively moderate appetite. In the "highway" mode, fuel consumption per 100 km per hour will be only 12 liters.

Also, the manufacturer was concerned about the safety of the driver and passengers while driving. Now the model will be equipped with several airbags, ABS, EBD, as well as the emergency braking function, the stability assistant and the assistant when driving uphill, however, only for an additional fee. SUVs from the Ulyanovsk plant began to be produced seven years ago, and there were reasons for this. The demonstration of the 2015 UAZ Pickup car was held in the fall of 2014.

Among the innovations, one can note another head optics with LED performance, a different grille and bumper, rear-view mirrors with turn signals and built-in side steps with voluminous niches. Hardly anyone could have imagined that such a luxurious car could be produced in Russia. The whole model range of UAZ.

Exterior

The geometric component of the Patriot head lighting has become more complex, which has acquired more sharp corners. The lower part of the headlights was duplicated with a chain of LED running lights. The large bumper installed in front and the convex wheel arches, which give the car a masculinity, make you noticeable.

Interior

The places where the devices are located are intuitive, the location is convenient. The presence of the new bright green backlight looks nice. The steering wheel turned out to be usual with four spokes. But the manufacturer has already made a promise to correct this defect and not only make a multifunctional wheel, but also equip it with a heating system.

On the console set in the center, the presence of rectangular shapes stands out. By the way, the console has also undergone some changes. Above, a pair of ventilation system deflectors, which have a vertical shape, have found their places. An 8-inch display was placed under them, which also received support for touch input.

He is also responsible for the modern navigation system. At the very bottom, several rows of keys and switches are crowned. The chairs are comfortable. A sofa was placed on the back, on which three adult passengers can easily fit. Moreover, they received attachments for child seats. Free space in the legs has become noticeably more, since the rear seat mountings have been pushed back.

The driver's seat has received good equipment and has all the necessary settings that allow you to adjust the seat in different directions. But earlier, in order to adjust the height of the seat, it was necessary to get up, open the door and keep it open to be able to get to the required handle, and now adjustments can be made without going through such manipulations.

However, there is not as much lateral support as we would like. The quality of the finishing materials used has improved. We also increased the number of compartments, boxes, nets and shelves for the preservation of various things. Aluminum pedal pads look pretty nice. Also, aluminum has found its place on the door panels and center console.

The equipment of the standard modification includes the presence of wheel arch liners, halogen optics, LED navigation lights, athermal glazing, interior fabric upholstery, on-board computer, heating and electric drive of side mirrors, full electric package, immobilizer.

If necessary, the rear seats can be folded down, resulting in 1,200 liters of usable space for loading luggage. Since it turned out to expand the luggage opening, loading and unloading is now even easier than before.

If we talk about interior finishing materials, then there are no clear complaints about them. In addition, the company was pleasantly surprised by placing a 12 volt outlet in the luggage compartment.

UAZ Patriot was built on the existing frame base with dependent suspension. A standard spring-lever structure with trailing arms was installed in front, and there are longitudinal semi-elliptical small-leaf springs at the rear.

Brake system

The braking system is presented on the pickup in the form of front disc brakes with ventilation and drum mechanisms on the rear wheels.

Steering

The steering is represented by a rack and pinion mechanism with a hydraulic booster.

Engineers introduced maintenance-free gimbals and stabilizer lateral stability in the design of the rear suspension, which will make it possible to lower body roll during tight cornering.

The exterior of the UAZ Pickup was changed, which will now allow it to gain the respect of an even larger number of buyers. An LED lighting system has appeared, the luggage compartment has become larger and its width has increased, which made it easier to load and unload luggage.

The salon has also changed a bit. The dashboard now looks much better, and the 8-inch touch-enabled display in the center console indicates that car company does not stand still, but wants to develop. Of course, the seats are still far from ideal, however, they have been improved when compared to the pre-styling model.

There is plenty of free space in the UAZ Patriot Pickup cabin. It is a pity that while the company does not provide for the provision of various security systems or at least the presence of airbags, because the car is still not small. The package bundle, even the basic one, has a pretty good list of options.

The motors, of course, are not so powerful, but they cope with their task. System all-wheel drive together with such a high level of ground clearance, it will allow you to pass even where other cars simply cannot pass. Hopefully, the car company will continue to improve its cars, because they are already able to compete to some extent with European cars.

It's already chilly in the Murmansk region at the end of September. At night, the temperature is about zero, and this is the norm for the Arctic. But when you spend the night in a tent on the shores of the Barents Sea, it seems that it is even colder outside the window (or rather, behind the tent). The tooth does not fall on the tooth. And as soon as I fell asleep, something roaring and belching clouds of smoke drove up to our tent camp. APC! The soldiers who arrived reported that sudden exercises were announced in the Middle Peninsula, and therefore we need to stay closer to the coast - in the center self-propelled artillery installations will shoot.

I didn't want to sleep at all, and not only to me. Out of harm's way, we turn off the camp and set off on the route ahead of schedule. There are eleven updated UAZ vehicles in our column. I pass by - this is already a passed stage (ЗР, № 10, 2018). I am only interested in, which I have never traveled on.

Thanks to the handrails in the doorways, it has become convenient to climb into the cabin. There are no other visible changes in the interior. Although further refinement suggests itself. It would not hurt to have a two-stage (or better - three-) seat heating. The current one works on / off and fries like crazy. Climate control is the same: set 21 ° - cool, 22 ° - hot. If I were to the military on that armored personnel carrier, they would consider me a sissy. But the buyer, who paid 1,100,000 rubles for the car, has the right to demand correct work, even in the smallest details.

I squeeze the clutch: when compared with the Patriot tested in the summer, it is much easier to press the pedal. The strokes of the 5-speed mechanics are just as short, the selectivity is high. I remember very well that on the Patriot, the gearbox lever did not vibrate - thanks to the integrated intermediate damper. Here he noticeably itches. It looks like the same lever is installed on the test machine.

There are no good asphalt roads in these parts and never have been. In Soviet times, there were many military townships (now they are abandoned), and there were army Urals and Ulyanovsk "goats".

The pickup is like a fish in water. He forges half-meter fords with defiant ease, climbs the cobblestone hills without any problems - it was never necessary to switch to the lower register of the razdatka (its reduction coefficient is still 2.542). As well as engage the forced rear cross-axle lock. On inclines, the slope hold-down system came in handy, which makes starting off a lot easier. But the clearance of 210 mm is too small for an all-terrain vehicle: every now and then you beat the gearbox against stones, effectively striking sparks. This show goes without consequences, but it would not hurt to increase the clearance to 220-230 mm. In terms of "geometry" the Pickup is inferior to the usual Patriot: the rear overhang is longer, and the exit angle is 21 ° against 30 °. So you have to be careful at the excesses.



But in front of the kamenyuk, the Patriots had to be careful, shod with tires measuring 245/60 R18. To break through such is a trifling matter! We constantly stopped to change shoes. They put other tires on the Pickup - 235/70 R16, and thank God. They are noticeably more cut-resistant and better at absorbing fines.

Shots in the fog

The upgraded ZMZ Pro motor proved to be excellent. Compared to the previous version, the compression ratio was increased, the cylinder head was reinforced, pistons made of heat-resistant alloy were installed (taking into account the further appearance of the version with LPG) and a two-row chain. Power has increased from 135 to 150 hp, and torque has increased from 217 to 235 Nm. But it is much more important that the thrust peak is shifted to the zone low revs... Thanks to this, even on difficult terrain, you can drive without touching the accelerator - the engine pulls confidently at 800 rpm. Almost diesel character! For an all-terrain vehicle, it fits perfectly. By the way, next year UAZs will have compression motors. Moreover, these will be imported units, but the manufacturer is still kept secret.

Climbing one of the peaks, I heard a strong roar: in the foggy distance I saw a battery of self-propelled guns, synchronously beating in the direction of the center of the peninsula. Powerful! I drive on, but my head is spinning: if only they did not start practicing shooting at moving targets ... Willy-nilly I accelerate.




At a fast pace and on a bumpy road, the tail of the car became unpleasant to throw up. In the Patriot at the same speed, there is no particular deterioration in comfort. What's the matter? I found the answer under the belly of the truck. Rear suspension The pickup is the same: there are four leaves in springs (the Patriot has two of them) and the old anti-roll bar (the thickness of the bar was reduced to the Patriot from 21 to 18 mm). For a car focused on cargo transportation and carrying 725 kg, this is justified. Throwing wheels into the back - went softer. However, squeaks on irregularities did not disappear, although with a run of 900 km there should be no extraneous noise at all.

The front suspension has undergone the same transformations as the Patriot suspension. Pickup got open steering knuckles, which made it possible to radically reduce the turning radius by 0.93 meters. In addition, both pivots (previously only the lower one) take the vertical load in them, which should increase reliability. The unit is not subject to lubrication, but periodic adjustment of the axial clearance is still necessary for it. To improve handling, the castor was increased from 3 to 3.5 °. Really, driving performance on the asphalt became much better. True, the "overwhelmed" corner also has the opposite effect: on irregularities, the steering wheel beats harder. To compensate for this, the Ulyanovsk people installed a steering damper. With him the steering wheel remained "quiet" even on the road strewn with stones.

After ten minutes of godless shaking, the wheels on the cargo platform unlocked and began to fly around the compartment, but I didn't even feel it. This is what a cargo platform separated from the cabin means - in a station wagon they would have arranged Stalingrad! The UAZ cargo platform is shorter than that of foreign cars-classmates, however, for the everyday needs of a conventional fisherman-hunter, the capabilities of the Pickup are enough for the eyes. And an ATV or a snowmobile will not fit into the mentioned foreign cars either.

Perhaps the main operational drawback is high consumption fuel. Off-road, the Pickup burns about 17 l / 100 km, and on the highway it requires at least 12 liters per hundred. This is a lot for a four-cylinder car. The ability to digest 92nd gasoline is little consolation. The transition to a six-speed mechanics would help to reduce consumption: it will allow to "drop" the engine speed at main speeds. But the Ulyanovsk people do not even stutter about such a box. But next spring. Consumption, of course, will not decrease, but comfort and status will be added.

Until recently, I associated UAZs, if not with a tent, then with a rickety rural house without amenities. Over the past five years, a good-quality repair has been done in it: a decent cladding has been mounted, the roof has been shifted, and the sewerage system has been installed. It remains to reduce heating costs, and you will want to live in this house.

Fines do not come and will not come to us. The carrying capacity of our pickup, according to the manufacturer's data, is 725 kg, and in the registration certificate vehicle written "other cars", while many foreign competitors were ranked among flatbed trucks with a carrying capacity of more than a ton. Even if they carry only air in their bodies, any sane person understands that they are buying them as a more affordable alternative to expensive SUVs. The difference between curb and full masses- more than 1000 kg - if you please pay fines from video cameras on a regular basis. Or change your car ...

On back seat two adults are quietly accommodated. But you have to sit like in school - with a straight back.

And we are overwhelmed with a feeling of gratitude to the prudent UAZ residents who left the car in the passenger category: we can drive freely even around the Kremlin itself. And we go.

By the way, it is more convenient to do this than before, due to the fact that last year UAZ Patriot and Pickup underwent a deep restyling (we talked about it in detail in No. 24/2014).

The cabin has become more comfortable, and appearance such that not only drivers, but also pedestrians look at the car. And the reason is clear - there are few such cars in Moscow. Practically no. Alas, in January prices for Ulyanovsk products had to be raised due to the large number of imported components. And now our pickup truck costs 699,000 rubles. v basic configuration"Classic". On the test, we have the most expensive version of the possible - "Limited", with diesel engine, which cost 879,990 rubles. even without a plastic cargo compartment cover (hereinafter, prices are as of the end of February 2015).

By the way, about affordability compared to an SUV. In our case, it is absent, since a regular Patriot, with a closed body of a universal type, the same diesel engine and in the same Limited configuration, costs 10,000 rubles cheaper. So you can buy this pickup only because of a great love for pickups. Which happens (and often) even among the townspeople.

In my opinion...

I'm sorry, but did the designers take part in the restyling? These are people with art education, right? Or just ordered from the Chinese led strip, cut and put them in the headlight blocks on site? The former UAZ looked, albeit old-fashioned, but harmonious, but this one is awkward and ridiculous. However, for the owner of "Patrick" design is not an argument. The main thing is the engine, and the diesel engine ZMZ-51432, by the way, is not so bad. 270 Nm of torque is enough to pull over two tons. But the peak torque range is very narrow: from 1800 to 2800 rpm. In city mode, you have to develop juggler skills, constantly tucking in the optimal gear. And when you turn on the odd ones, it is easy to pinch your fingers on the climate unit with the lever. One of the owners of the Patriot told me that he was pushing the lever forward with his fingers. This is a very Russian approach to "solving" a problem. It's like driving on a smoother curb instead of repairing the road.

In my opinion...

After restyling, it is more comfortable to sit than before, the finishing materials are better, the assembly is better. And all the same: the wheels are straight, and the steering wheel is turned 30 degrees clockwise. It is clear, a new car, and there is no 50 km on the odometer, they did not have time to correct it ... It is known that a normal UAV starts life with new car only after full broaching. But our pickup truck is no longer so cheap to forgive its "crooked steering wheel".

I turn the key in the ignition lock - I hit the panic button, the UAZ is humming with displeasure. Nothing, I'll remember. With the turn of the key, a shudder from the diesel engine goes through the body, and in motion its knock overlaps the dashing whistle of the turbine. Okay, the music is loud. So, what about economy? 13.9 liters per "hundred" is a lot. After a five-hundred-kilometer long-distance trip along the M2, I reduced it to 12.5 liters. All the same, not the promised ten. During the trip, I noticed that I was more often in the right lane, among long-range trucks, than in the left, on the way of flying foreign cars. The right is somehow calmer. You have to work less with the steering wheel, the gear lever, the pedals ... And all the time you have to pull out into the field. Yes, it is not for nothing that the registration certificate in the “Vehicle type” column says: “Other cars”. Exactly!

In my opinion...

A couple of days before I happened to be behind the wheel of a UAZ "full-size" pickup, an unusual version of the car came across on the road. Painted with flashes of fire, lifted, supplemented power bumper, he proudly and unhurriedly cut through the morning stream on the Garden Ring. And on the rear side of it flaunted a warlike couplet: “No infection will take me! I am a Russian man, I am an UAZ driver! "

Not otherwise, the gender challenge of fate, you can’t name it in another way. All the more so because it has somehow happened historically that before that, not a single Uaz SUV had come across to my hands. And here at once such splendor: for five meters in length, for two widths, height - under two meters. And on the "handle" with a diesel engine! Yes, along the narrow central Moscow streets: envy, Europe!

The pickup surprised me with quite adequate responses to both the steering wheel and the pedals - to be honest, I expected it to be much worse. It's a bit heavy, of course, well, and the car is not for "jewelry" work and jabbing at traffic jams. True, one more surprise saves - a rear-view camera, which I never expected to meet here. On a more or less high-speed line, of course, you have to work at the wheel - the car prowls. But it was not possible to get into the snow-mud during the week. Well, the trouble is the beginning!

Outcome

Against two editors who have long loved heavy off-road equipment and put positive ratings to the UAZ pickup, one fan of light and fast (read - sports) cars spoke. And he took his short trip behind the wheel of the UAZ more like an attraction. And not the most pleasant one, which he does not want to repeat. Alas, he probably never drove a UAZ not around the city, but where he belongs - on country roads, into muddy roads. But maybe someday it will happen, and then the look will change. It happens.
