The first generation Tiguan is virtually the only Volkswagen model in the hugely popular compact / midsize crossover segment. Success in the market: 700 thousand cars of the version before restyling were sold, sales of the post-restyling version continue in many markets, including the CIS region. Therefore, we could not ignore this popular crossover.

SHORT INFO

Market entry - end of 2007, restyling - 2011. Platform - PQ35, Tiguan shared it with Golf V, Passat VI, Audi A3 / Q3, etc. Assembly places: German Wolfsburg, Chinese Shanghai, Vietnamese Haipong, Argentinean Tigre, Russian - Kaluga (first SKD assembly, and from 2010 to full cycle). Motor range: petrol 1.4 and 2.0; diesel 2.0. Transmission: 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, 6/7-speed DSG. Drive type: front, full. Safety: 5 stars in the Euro NCAP test (87% adult, 79% child, 48% pedestrian, 71% active safety). In the CIS market: configurations: Trend & Fun, Track & Field, Sport & Style, special version of Allstar.

RESTYLING

In 2011, the model underwent a planned restyling. External changes affected the radiator grille, headlights and taillights. The update also affected the interior, a three-spoke steering wheel appeared, the list of options was replenished with new positions. From the technical point of view, the engines, gearboxes, and suspension elements have undergone revision. A new Track & Style trim level has been added and several special versions have been added (Allstar, Limited).

SMALL NUANCES

Volkswagen tiguan the first generation is, of course, a mass car. Therefore, he cannot please everyone and in everything. Let's start the generation review with minor flaws, which, depending on preferences, may not be such.

So insignificant shortcomings during operation included average quality noise insulation, weak stove operation, failure of the fan control unit, high fluid consumption when using headlight washers. There are frequent cases of clogging of the drainage system, as a result of which water gets into the cabin under the front seat mats, advice is to regularly inspect and clean the drains. Part Volkswagen owners Tiguan basic configurations complain about uncomfortable front seats with a vertical seating position, and it is almost impossible to achieve a comfortable body position using adjustments.

SERIOUS PROBLEMS

When creating the Volkswagen Tiguan, the German automaker did not take the path of "reducing" the rather expensive crossover Touareg... Instead, the new car was built on the popular PQ35 platform, which also underlies numerous VAG models: Golf V, Passat VI, Jetta V, Audi A3 / Q3, Skoda Yeti and many others. However, in addition to the successful engineering solutions, the Tiguan inherited a number of serious problems of this platform. They concerned engines, gearboxes, chassis, electrics and paintwork.

PETROL ENGINES

In accordance with the demands of the time and the market, the 1.4 TSI engines of the EA111 family became the base for the Tiguan - efficient, economical, environmentally friendly. Depending on the region of sale, they have different technical performance and varying returns. Motors of the CAXA and CZDB series have a power of 122 HP, CZDA - 150 HP. They are all equipped with one turbocharger. But on the CAVA and CAVD series, a mechanical drive compressor is installed in addition to it. This solution made it possible to increase the efficiency of the unit, save it from turbo lag at low speeds, and optimize fuel consumption. However, it was not without its problems. Due to the design features, accelerated wear of the piston is observed in the second and third cylinders. Problems arise after a run of 60-100 thousand km.

The entire family of engines is characterized by problems with the chain, cylinder-piston group, high load on the liners, extreme loads on the lubrication system, problems with the high-pressure fuel pump and turbines, and frequent contamination of the intercooler. Problems are less common for less powerful versions of engines, but they also appear on them. On motors with double supercharging, freezing of the throttle system is observed. The weak link is the compressor drive clutch, which is aligned with the pump. It often needs to be replaced, this usually coincides with the replacement of the pump itself, but in case of combustion, the operation will have to be performed more often.

Unstable engine operation can be observed after 20-30 thousand kilometers. This is usually associated with a stretched chain. In fact, many Tiguan 1.4 TSI engines spent a lot of time at dealer service centers getting their warranty repairs done. That is why, when buying a used crossover with this engine, low mileage can be attributed rather not to pluses, but to minuses.

After restyling, German engineers solved the problem with the cylinder-piston group, adding, in particular, steel reinforcing inserts. However, the problems with the stretch chain have not gone away, as have the self-destructive chain damper.

In addition to the 1.4 TSI, 2-liter petrol units were also installed on the Tiguan. Engines of the EA888 family are presented in the CAWA, CAWB, CCZA and CCZB versions. They differ among themselves in power and minor differences in the turbines and the power system. But their characteristic problems are common. During operation, increased oil consumption, malfunctioning of the high-pressure fuel pump (already after 20 thousand km of run!), Increased load on the crankcase ventilation system (due to unsuccessful compression rings), a problem with coking of the piston group (unsuccessful oil scraper rings and piston ), with contamination of the throttle, with a leak in the camshaft position sensor oil seal (the situation is difficult to correct even by replacing the gasket or the oil seal itself; after restyling, this problem was eliminated), timing problems (but they appear less often than on 1.4 TSI engines).

In general, the 2.0 TSI engines are a more reliable alternative to the 1.4-liter engines. Unless they have a shorter operating life of ignition modules than their "younger" counterparts. However, this problem is well known to the specialists of service centers in view of the widespread use of of this type motors. At the same time, the 2.0 TSI offers good traction across the entire rev range as well as ample tuning options. The standard figures are 170 hp. without any problems in the hands of specialists, they overcome the marks of 200 or even 300 hp. However, in the market for used cars, there is a possibility of running into "racing" copies, which in the future will present problems with the turbine, timing or with the drive of the intake manifold flaps (changes in assembly). In case of careful handling, the engine resource before the first major repair will be approximately 120-160 thousand km.

DIESEL ENGINES

The 2.0 TDI diesel engine is considered the most reliable in design among the units installed on the Tiguan; on the roads there are cars with a mileage of 250 thousand km and without significant repairs in this part. However, there can be problems with it. In the European market, the turbodiesel was offered in several versions (CFFD, CUVC, CFGC, CUWA), the power of which varies from 110 to 184 hp. However, only the 140 hp CBAB version is available on Russian-assembled vehicles. This is explained by the low quality of diesel fuel typical for the region. The fact is that an engine with a Common Rail injection system is very picky about high-quality diesel fuel. Several unsuccessful refuelings can lead to problems with the injection pump nozzles, filters, and the need to flush the fuel tank.

Also, turbodiesels are characterized by problems with the particulate filter, freezing of diesel fuel, with the throttle valve due to the wear of its plastic drive, and problems with the power system. After a run of 90-100 thousand km, problems with starting a warm engine are common due to a failure of the pressure reducing or pressure valves. It is also worth noting the frequent problem with antifreeze leakage in cars with an autonomous heater. This happens after a run of 20-40 thousand km due to a leaking tee of the lower pipe at the outlet of the radiator, or due to a radiator leak at the junction of plastic and metal parts.

MANUAL TRANSMISSION

The choice of transmissions for the first generation Tiguan is quite large. Here and 6-speed "mechanics", 6-speed "automatic", as well as the famous 6- or 7-speed "robots" DSG.

Manual transmissions are gradually losing ground. However, there is still a demand for them, and therefore they are available for the Tiguan. Perhaps, it was with the manual transmission that the owners of the crossover had the least problems. The clutch resource is approximately 60-80 thousand kilometers. It is also worth paying attention to the timely repair or maintenance of dual-mass flywheels. Otherwise, you will have to spend money on repairing the box and starter.

AUTOMATIC GEARBOXES

The most common automatic transmission option in the Russian Tiguan market is the Aisin model 09G (M) hydromechanical transmission. This is the world's first 6-speed automatic transmission, developed by a Japanese company in cooperation with VAG. It has been installed on various Volkswagen models since 2003 and has proven itself to be quite reliable. However, in the case of the Tiguan, the box works in conditions of severe overheating, especially while driving in traffic jams or in off-road mode. Therefore, it is recommended to install a "package for hot countries" (a separate radiator and filter for automatic transmission), as well as an oil change every 40-60 thousand kilometers. The valve body, which is quite expensive to repair, can also break down. In general, the box can last 100-150 thousand km without any intervention with an upgrade, but it is better to extend this period by taking care of the changes.

Preselective "robots" DSG deserve separate words. Volkswagen's proprietary development in the case of the Tiguan proved to be not the best way. Because of this, different versions of the boxes were offered in different markets, some of which may not have been available at all. For example, the 7-speed DSG of the DQ500 series with "wet clutch" was installed on the most powerful versions of the crossover, and in Europe it was aggregated even with the most productive versions of the 1.4 TSI engine. This transmission is considered even more reliable than the 6-speed DSG of the DQ250 series. But each of them, like the classic "automatic", is also prone to overheating when driving on low speeds... This leads to contamination of the oil with clutch lining wear products. Therefore, the oil change interval should be halved. After restyling in 2011, the 6-speed DSG gearbox of the DQ250 series was still offered in our market, but only in combination with a 1.4-liter engine and front-wheel drive.

Also of note are the rear axle drive clutch problems on the all-wheel drive versions of the Tiguan. The fourth generation Haldex clutch was installed on the pre-styling version. In conditions of too frequent active acceleration or frequent off-road trips, it overheated, which led to the failure of the system pump (with a run of 50-90 thousand km). In this case, the all-wheel drive crossover became front-wheel drive. A good prevention is an oil change every 30-40 thousand km. By the way, after restyling, the model was already equipped with a fifth generation Haldex clutch, which is more reliable and less prone to overheating. One of the common problems can be called hum and, accordingly, the replacement of the outboard bearing of the propeller shaft after 40 thousand km.

SUSPENSION

The front suspension of the Tiguan is independent, spring-strut type MacPherson, it is installed in a one-piece aluminum subframe, the rear is multi-link. The suspension is reliable, well adapted both for driving on flat surfaces and for off-road excursions. The service life of shock absorbers is more than 100-120 thousand km, levers - more than 120-150 thousand, wheel bearings - more than 60-80 thousand kilometers. More frequent replacement will require rods of anti-roll bars, some front and rear bushings.

Quite common problems with squeak are associated with silent blocks, especially on machines of early years of production. As a rule, the problem makes itself felt after 40 thousand kilometers, but it can appear earlier. The silent blocks begin to creak one at a time, the reason is road dirt, which clogs up quite easily in them. As a result, unpleasant extraneous squeaks occur, over time the silent blocks begin to require replacement. The problem also occurs after restyling, but its manifestation depends on the operating conditions of the car.

BRAKE SYSTEM

The Tiguan has disc brakes, ventilated at the front. In general, the braking system is technically quite reliable and does not require replacement over a relatively high mileage... As a rule, discs need to be replaced every 50 thousand km, the front brake pads will last for 30-60 thousand, the rear ones - 40-80 thousand km.

But in the operation of the ABS system, serious problems were identified. Under certain conditions (for example, in bends, when the road surface is rut), the system does not work correctly and increases the braking distance, which has an extremely negative effect on safety. The problem is associated with a defect in the software of the ABS control unit, which is common on vehicles manufactured between 2012 and 2014. As a result, the manufacturer released a new firmware version, which does not completely solve the problem, but still significantly shortens the braking distance compared to the factory settings. On vehicles manufactured after 2014, the problem has been resolved. However, when choosing a supported Tiguan, you should pay close attention to this nuance, since many owners have not turned to service centers to update the firmware.

One of the pioneers of the compact crossover niche, popular among domestic car enthusiasts Volkswagen Tiguan. The first mention of the creation of a car of this class, the German concern made back in 2006.

The release began in 2007, and after 4 years, the model has undergone minor restyling. As a result of the update, the shape of the front and rear bumpers, drawing of optics, minor transformations in the cabin and modification of the range of motors.

Production in Russia was almost immediately set up at a subsidiary in Kaluga. For Russians, 3 basic vehicle configurations and a wide range of engines were offered, consisting exclusively of turbo engines.

The main difference between the 4x4 configuration was the use of bumpers with a large bevel of the skirt, which made it possible to overcome the increased angle of rise.

The very name of the Tiguan model is a fusion of two words. Translated into Russian, it means tiger and iguana. Marketers managed to combine a large predatory cat with a large lizard. Surprisingly, it sounds nice.

The main competitors of Volkswagen Tiguan, by right, can be called Kia Sportage, Renault Duster, Toyota Rav 4, Skoda Yeti. Each of them, in its own way, has a number of advantages and disadvantages. Perhaps in price, but maybe in functionality and reliability. This is exactly what we will try to figure out.

What problems can used options have?

The design of the German crossover is not endowed with simplicity. The most sophisticated systems of the engine, transmission and electrical equipment provide a high level of comfort, dynamics and controllability. But the flip side of this bonus lies in frequent breakdowns.

Best and worst motors

As mentioned earlier, the entire line of power units for the domestic market is turbocharged engines.

The most basic engine is considered to be 1.4 liters. petrol TSI, 150 hp and a torque of 240 N.m. Amazing traction, dynamics and efficiency. The internal combustion engine is equipped with a classic turbine and a mechanical supercharger capable of disguising a turbo lag.

Fantastic efficiency of the motor, often turns around for it, the rapid wear of components and assemblies. A motor with a small volume, pumped up to the parameters of a 2.5-3 liter atmospheric analogue, simply cannot cope with the load.

Several objects fall into the risk zone at once. Overheating and high pressure in cylinders 2 and 3, design flaw. Burning pistons and seizure marks are not uncommon, especially among "active" drivers.

The timing chain today is far from the strong point of most foreign cars, as it used to be. The Tiguan is no exception. The resource is not great, about 100 thousand kilometers. And her pacifier can fail twice as fast.

A relative of the same unit, 1.4 liters, with a capacity of 122 hp. It has no additional pressurization. This, in part, makes it more reliable. At least the problems with the CPG were cut off by themselves.

The turbine, on the other hand, runs 150-200 thousand kilometers without any problems. But the stretching of the chain and the failure of the damper, unfortunately, remained an unresolved headache.

This internal combustion engine is extremely rare in the secondary market, and its capacity is not quite enough for a one and a half ton SUV. It is installed, as many have already guessed, only on a mono-drive version.

To prolong the life of the timing chain, we strongly recommend that you do not put the machine on the included speed. And if, nevertheless, you want to doubt the reliability parking brake, then put in gear, it is better after fixing with a handbrake.

Turbo diesel 2.0, found in two versions. The first, with a capacity of 170 hp and a torque of 350 Nm, was installed on cars before the 2011 restyling. And the second, its counterpart, in a deformed form, produces 140 forces. With a weaker turbine and lower ecological class (EURO-4).

No major flaws were found in these power plants. Clogged diesel particulate filter, a common occurrence in diesel engines. Especially often, it occurs where the daily mileage is not great.

Also, there are cases of pump leakage, ahead of schedule. The timing drive, here the belt, from replacement to replacement, is 120 thousand kilometers. If the belt breaks, the cost of repairing the cylinder head can exceed 50 thousand rubles. Volkswagen parts are very expensive.

With regards to the gasoline 2.0, the engine at different times was presented with several power ratings. Before the update, it was 170 and 200 hp, and after that options with 180, 210 and 211 hp were added. The motor has proven itself only on the positive side. A minor drawback is the leakage of the camshaft position sensor gasket. It is found closer to the run of 60-70 thousand km.

Exterior silhouette and salon space

The body of the German crossover is strong and torsionally rigid. The paintwork, as in general and that of most rivals in the class, does not have high resistance to stones on the road.

Chips are not uncommon in cars over three years old. Surprisingly, Tiguan is not afraid of corrosion and bugs. The body is galvanized. One major flaw in most SUVs is the aerodynamic turbulence at the stern. Frequent accumulation of dirt at the lower edge of the trunk. It is there that you should look for rust from a "used" German.

The salon is made in the traditional Volkswagen style. Everything is strict, laconic and thought out to the smallest detail. Good sound insulation and convenient functionality.

The rear seats have adjustments, both by tilting the backrest in several positions, and by sliding back and forth. In other matters, the latter, significantly compensates for the small volume of the trunk, which a large number of owners complain about.

There are also cases of complete or partial breakage of the multi rudder loop. As a result, the sound signal, volume control and information system control stops working.

Transmission types and wheel arrangement

Front-wheel drive is only available with a 1.4-liter petrol engine in both variants. Due to this, the design is simplified, and with it a number of problems are eliminated by themselves.

All other units have four-wheel drive, working with a Haldex clutch. Weak point in the 4x4 version, the outboard bearing of the propeller shaft is distinguished. A knock in the area of the central tunnel of the bottom is a clear sign of its failure.

Coupling connecting rear axle, has proven itself not bad. Regular and premature oil changes, with a filter element, guarantee a long life. Do not forget that heavy towing or overheating in off-road conditions will negatively affect the resource.

On post-styling machines, they began to use robotic box gears DSG-6, designed for an increased torque of 325 Nm. This gearbox works on "wet", due to which increased productivity and resource.

The design feature consists in a single oil circuit for the clutch and the transmission itself. As a result, clutch wear products can easily get into the main compartment. An oil change (expensive) is best done in advance. Do not forget that the chip tuning of the internal combustion engine reduces the resource of such a box by about half.

Automatic transmission for 6 speeds and "mechanics" are not a hassle. Serious malfunctions when correct operation, are single.

Chassis and steering

Volkswagen Tiguan 1st generation, built on the Golf 5th generation platform. Some of the sores were inherited. Compensation for this is the excellent handling received from the hatchback.

The ground clearance of the car is 200 mm, which is quite solid for a city SUV. The front and rear suspension is completely independent. Typical MacPherson performance and multi-link aft.

In the zone of vulnerability, the rear silent blocks of the front levers fall here. Fortunately, for replacement, you do not need to change the entire lever, as with most competitors. Just one detail is enough.

Hub bearings do not run for long, about 35-50 thousand kilometers. This is due to the adaptability of the car to good roads. Many owners treat the problem by fitting higher profile tires. The suspension will become softer, but the handling is worse.

Let's summarize

Buying a used German crossover on the secondary market is a kind of lottery for a person who does not understand a lot about this. It will not be superfluous to conduct a comprehensive diagnosis from well-qualified specialists.

This car is technically complex. The choice is probably worth a complete set with the simplest power filling. Thus, avoiding a number of possible failures. The more promising ones are two-liter engines with manual transmission and automatic transmission. Don't forget the suspension and steering as well. Although the risk of running into here is much less.

The Trend & Fun package is purely urban in nature and has very weak off-road qualities. This version is available in front-wheel drive only.

Sport & Style is intended for fans of a sporty driving style, and in addition to the modified suspension characteristics and a powerful engine, it is equipped with 17-inch wheel disks.

The off-road version of Truck & Field is equipped with a special "offroad" mode, which includes electronic locking of center differentials, modified shock absorber settings, hill descent assist and hill start mode. Permanent all-wheel drive provides the car with excellent traction on any surface, and electronic system control instantly detects wheel slip and distributes torque, due to which the probability of a car stalling into a skid tends to zero.

The range of engines supplied to the domestic market includes turbo engines with a volume of 1.4 to 2.0 liters and a capacity of 122 to 210 hp.

Depending on the vehicle configuration, a manual or 8-speed automatic transmission is installed on it.

The history of the creation of the Volkswagen Tiguan

For the first time this car was presented in Frankfurt in 2007. And this model was restyled in 2011. It should be noted that this is an all-wheel drive five-seat crossover. In this case, the basis for the creation of the car was the platform of the legendary car - Volkswagen Golf.

In the process of the last restyling work, the manufacturers not only "corrected" the appearance of this handsome man, but also worked hard on the safety of the car, and in particular on its technical filling.

The appearance of the new Volkswagen Tiguan

The updated version is very similar to its predecessor. However, you can see the reasonable practicality of the updated machine (this is especially evident in the Track & Field version). And one more step Volkswagen became an external combination of styles of all produced cars. Those. the Tiguan has features of several other models. But, in general, he looks like an older brother - Touareg.

The car shows style, design and, of course, swiftness and energy. Volkswagen specialists have highlighted the fog lights and two-piece headlights with LED running lights... Also, the car has updated side skirts, chrome roof rails and alloy wheels... The whole view of the car with its spaced arches speaks of freedom of movement. When choosing this model, remember that different versions will give the Volkswagen Tiguan a personality. (Track & Field is off-road, while Sport & Style is more sporty).

Interior decoration, interior and technical filling

The new version of the crossover received a multifunctional steering wheel, the location of the buttons on the front console changed slightly. The engine start button has also changed its place and is located to the left of the gearshift knob.

All instruments and control buttons are in the driver's line of sight. Excellent visibility from the driver's seat is complemented by the minimum blind zones located behind the front pillars of the car.

When you sit inside the Volkswagen Tiguan, you immediately feel the quality (like all "Germans"). Perfectly fitted panels, soft-touch plastic and thoughtfulness make you fall in love with this car. Pleasant backlighting, perfectly readable devices will give comfort to any driver. However, there are some small complaints: the front part of the driver's seat is slightly recessed, which is not very convenient for tall people. However, electric seats can help solve this problem.

I am pleased with the wide range of steering column adjustments, so that the driver, having spent a little time, will be able to get comfortable. For rear passengers, they also provided the possibility of increasing legroom: the seat moves forward / backward by 16 centimeters. As for the luggage compartment, from almost 500 liters, you can easily make 1500 by simply folding rear seats... It is also worth noting that the loading height of the machine is optimal, and such operations do not create problems.

In terms of technical fillings, the Volkswagen Tiguan will delight its customers with light and rain sensors, dual-zone climate control, an 8-speaker car radio, adaptive cruise control and a panoramic roof.

The manufacturer paid no less attention to security systems. Let's start with "smart" headlights that will not blind the driver passing in the opposite direction, and will also illuminate the road in the direction of the turn (when you turn the steering wheel, the headlights also turn).

The vehicle is equipped with a driver fatigue monitoring system. In the process of driving, she independently analyzes the driving behavior and, if there is a slowdown in reactions, she strongly recommends stopping. The lane assist system is also pleasantly surprising. This system monitors the road markings and informs the driver about crossing the lane (without the turn signal turned on, the system recognizes "unauthorized movement" and the car will return to the original lane). It should only be noted that most of these options are not included in the standard package, and, accordingly, if necessary, their installation will require additional funds.

Engines, transmissions and driving behavior

Here is where to roam when choosing. The Volkswagen Tiguan is offered with a range of 1.4-liter TSI petrol engines with 122 and 150 horsepower. As for the smallest in the lineup, along with it, a strat / stop fuel economy system is installed on the car. Further, the lineup is represented by the 2.0 TSI with 170 and 200 hp. And the line is completed by diesel units with a volume of 2.0 and a capacity of 140 "horses". Here, of course, everyone must decide for himself.

I would like to note that all engines pull perfectly from the very bottom. And already the dynamics and maximum speed to the best of everyone's capabilities. As for the gearboxes, the mechanics are installed only on 1.4 TSI. All other motors are equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

And now about the driving performance. On the pavement, the car feels great: it just drives, holds the road well and swallows holes. On the off-road, you can connect a lot of "assistants", but the suspension travel is clearly not enough on some bumps, and you can easily "punch" it. With regard to cross-country ability - it is better not to climb far in the mud on a Volkswagen Tiguan, but it will calmly withstand a trip to the country house on a washed-out road. As for the torque distribution system, it turns on only when the front wheels begin to slip, transferring part of the force to the rear axle.

Disadvantages and problems of car operation

Despite the famous pedantry of German designers and engineers, judging by the reviews of the owners, the car still has some minor flaws:

The ignition key hole is not illuminated. Quite an unpleasant little thing that can be attributed to the forgetfulness of the creators of the car.

Insufficient visibility and small size side mirrors. There are no special problems with the left mirror - with small adjustments, there are practically no dead zones left in it, but with the right mirror things are much worse. There is no rounding on the mirror, so you will have to tinker with its settings for a long time.

Tight closing of the passenger doors, because of which the doors have to slam in order for the door closing system to work.

Incomprehensible operation of the automatic transmission. Before reaching the 100 km / h mark, the automatic machine does not even try to engage an overdrive sixth gear. Switching occurs only when accelerating to 120 km / h, which leads to increased consumption fuel.

The original design of the trunk - the right compartment is not covered with plastic, respectively, the body of the car and its insides, along with the wires, are visible.

The small size of the driver's armrest box does not allow to accommodate everything necessary for the driver's needs. But the size of the armrest box is offset by the abundance of drawers located under the seats and a large glove compartment.

Mysterious operating mode of the headlight washer. The algorithm of work is rather complicated and it takes a lot of time to get used to it.

Poor sound insulation of wheel arches - when driving on a gravel or sandy road, there is a strong knock from gravel and sand in the cabin.

The problem with the driver's mats and the gas pedal during winter operation. Ice begins to form on the mat under the gas pedal, which reduces the travel of the gas pedal. This is due to insufficient insulation of the bottom of the car, which is why ice forms both under the mat and on top.

In principle, all the identified shortcomings are not critical for the operation of the vehicle. Over time, you can get used to the operation of the engine and gearbox, and the problem of tight closing of the doors can be solved by revision or installation of other seals.

Advantages of the car

Rich basic equipment - even as standard, the car is equipped with the ABC system, the stability control system and the tire pressure monitoring system.

The presence of a full-fledged multimedia center with a large color active LCD display. The location maps for the navigator and multimedia files can be stored on a hard disk with a maximum capacity of 30 GB.

A modern navigation system independently memorizes up to five hundred intermediate points when moving along a route for which there are no navigation maps.

Comprehensive underbody and engine protection that includes engine protection from gravel

Large trunk volume, which, moreover, can carry up to 650 kg of cargo. In addition to the roof rack, all versions of the car are equipped with roof rails, which allow you to carry up to 100 kg of additional cargo on the roof.

Excellent quality of interior trim.

Excellent vehicle handling. Even in the front-wheel drive version, the crossover perfectly obeys the steering wheel and is controlled in one go. Moreover, in sharp turns body roll is minimal, reflecting excellent suspension settings and intelligent vehicle design.

Low consumption fuel for vehicles with diesel engines.

Attractive appearance and excellent ergonomics of the car interior.

High ground clearance allows you to feel confident both in winter and in moderate off-road conditions.

Results, configurations and prices Volkswagen Tiguan 2013

Summing up, I would like to note that the Volkswagen Tiguan of the 2013 model year has every chance of competing with its fellow crossovers. This car will suit energetic and modern people who like compact cars, but are no longer satisfied with hatchbacks. The price of this car ranges from 800,000 to 1,350,000 rubles.

Overall, the car is very attractive and even despite the higher price compared to its main competitors, the new Tiguan will find a large number of fans. Despite its relatively minor flaws, it is an excellent example of a stylish and modern urban crossover.

This is not to say that VW did not produce compact SUVs until 2007. For example, there was the Kübelwagen, aka Typ 82, which was made from 1939 to 1945, and in recent history the Golf of the 2nd generation had an off-road configuration ... But the unequivocal success of the Touareg and the high demand for everything that remotely resembled an SUV clearly hinted that it was time to release a small, which means practically “people's” crossover.

The public showed the new car in 2006, and sales began only at the end of 2007. It turns out that the hero of today's review, the Volkswagen Tiguan, will soon celebrate its tenth anniversary. During this period, he managed to collect a large number of both positive and negative reviews, collect both fans and haters of the model. Whichever one is right, this is one of the most popular cars in its class, and its life cycle has just ended - last year on the MQB platform. It's time to take stock of the release of the old one.

Platform

Volkswagen Tiguan "2008-11

When creating a junior crossover model, the company did not reduce the large and expensive Touareg. The new car was created on the inexpensive mass platform PQ35, on which other cars of the concern were already produced. Of course, the engine of the new car stands transversely, the rear axle drive is connected via a Haldex clutch, a multi-link in the back, MacPherson strut in front. And everything for which the Golf and related cars love: excellent ergonomics, high quality of finishing and workmanship. And, of course, the car inherited all the negative qualities of this platform - not the most successful motors and gearboxes, as well as complex electronics and suspensions. However, first things first.

Why the Tiguan is good

The first reviews from journalists about the car were enthusiastic. The handling is excellent, the dynamics are very convincing, the fuel consumption with the 1.4 engine and diesel engines is extremely low. And even the off-road qualities of the car in the Trend & Fun, Sport & Style trim levels turned out to be very high, and the “road” version of Track & Field was limited primarily by the angles of the front exit due to the use of a more aerodynamic bumper.

Without much exaggeration, we can say that the car turned out to be one of the best in its class, surpassing both the Toyota RAV4 and the European bestseller Qashqai.

Boxed confusion

As usual, it was not without a fly in the ointment - very quickly the Europeans discovered that it was in off-road sorties that the preselective “robots”, which VW was so proud of, did not perform well. Clutches quickly overheat when driving slowly over rough terrain. Probably for this reason, in the Russian versions of the car, they immediately refused to use even the very reliable DSG 6 and the new DSG 7 series DQ500 (with "wet" clutches).

The dubious "robot" was replaced with the classic Aisin hydromechanics, and with 1.4 engines, only "mechanics" were offered until 2011. The "wet" DSG-6 was installed only after restyling and only for front-wheel drive cars. The Europeans, on the other hand, were equipped with a DSG on cars with 1.4 engines, and also with wet clutches, as with "adult" engines. For two-liter gasoline engines with a capacity of 170 and 180 hp. put Aisin until 2010, keeping DSG on more powerful ones. In general, the story with the automatic transmission is confused to the point of impossibility.

Assembly

A special detective story is associated with the choice of the place of manufacture of the car. The Portuguese plant SEAT Auto Europa claimed the potential for a very popular model, which would save jobs after the completion of the VW Sharan / Ford Galaxy. Both the government of the country and the trade unions took the side of the plant.

But keeping in mind that the quality of the cars of this plant is not the highest, VW nevertheless built a new Auto 5000 factory specifically for the production of the Tiguan in Germany, in Wolfsburg. At the same time, the specifics of assigning models to factories became known: it turns out that within the company there is internal competition among industries for the release of a certain model, and this competition is very tough. The presence of investors at the plant itself, and production indicators, and much more are taken into account. By the way, as a result, Tiguan was made not only in Wolfsburg, but also in the Russian Kaluga, and in Shanghai, and in the Vietnamese Haipong.

Breakdowns and problems in operation

Body and interior

The fame of indestructible, stainless and maintenance-free cars, which arose in the 90s on a wave of hobby, brought Volkswagen immense popularity in Russia. However, everything goes to the point that a "rollback" of public opinion will soon occur. And it's not just the DSG boxes. Well-painted bodies of both Kaluga and German cars look better in general aged than their Japanese competitors, and even some European ones. And plastic panels protect the paint from sandblasting and stones, which means they make the paintwork more reliable.

But corrosion gradually manifests itself at the seams, the sealant swells, red traces appear, paint flies around in the most unexpected places, for example, on door openings. And this despite the fact that the average age of cars is still completely "childish", which means that all the problems have not yet appeared. In general, it is recommended to pay close attention to the state of the body in terms of corrosion, and not just on the subject of traces of accidents. By the way, the plastic door linings do not hold very well, and when mobility appears, they will easily spoil the paint at the attachment points, so keep the doorways clean, free of dirt and ice. If you already have a Tiguan, then you should think about an anticorrosive solution - it is much cheaper than solving problems with the body in another five years. The salon of cars on the PQ35 platform is generally distinguished by excellent ergonomics, high quality and ... boredom. The Tiguan is no exception. Comfortable, convenient and "gray" car will appeal to those who are not looking for new sensations, but simply thirst for quality and convenience.

Of course, there are disadvantages: for example, the seats are weak, the driver's mechanics often fail, and the “skin” of the coating turns out to be not very natural and completely unreliable - already by 80 thousand run the leather seats look wrinkled. A common problem with all platform machines is crickets in the ductwork. Here, too, extraneous noise is often created by the right air duct and its flaps. And also frankly tight door seals, which at first interfere with easy closing, literally after three or four years, they crumble and start making noise and letting dust and dirt from the street. Most often, the problem is eliminated with an extra layer of seals, because installing a new original will again make the door slam, like in old Zhiguli. The not too reliable climate block of pre-styling cars is sometimes changed to a new one, with "twists", without waiting for failures, and in general, thanks to the multitude of cars on this platform, some of them have long turned into "constructors". On used copies, there are buttons from other trim levels, and boxes for seats with Audi, and lighting with a Passat, and seats with a Golf GTI.

Don't be too scared. The owners really like the car, but the simplicity of its interior is annoying for many, so, armed with catalogs, many are looking for interesting configurations from soplatform cars. Then, armed with Vasya the diagnostician, they courageously install unknown options and devices. What cannot be installed is normal navigation, and in general multimedia is not the most successful here. Poor support for Android and iOS devices, lack of normal display of traffic jams, high price for a frankly outdated solution ... These features can be forgiven for the cheaper Golf, but the crossover is much more expensive and this kind of greed of the manufacturer already looks bad. A rather serious problem is the tendency of machines on this platform to clog the drain and gradually wet the floor mats. This leads to multiple electronics failures and problems with the wiring harness, especially the part that goes to the front right door. There are also cars with assembly flaws, and not always Russian. Poorly screwed elements, incomprehensible "crickets" are not necessarily the result of interior repairs. There are copies that clearly have these problems from a factory in Germany.

Electrician

As you understand, the electrical part can cause a lot of hassle on cars over the age of three to five years. Moreover, for the younger ones, there are no problems at all, except with multimedia systems. As a result, opinions differ greatly: someone is already faced with difficult-to-solve electrical problems and curses everyone and everything, and someone by the age of five has no serious breakdowns and only sees with displeasure an increasing oil appetite. In general, the electrician is quite reliable and does not irritate with minor glitches and failures. In addition, it looks like more than a dozen car models, and it is well known both in official and unofficial services. Only problems can be treated in very different ways, if they have already appeared. Officials often have replacement of harnesses and blocks, which turns out to be very expensive, and for craftsmen - local repair, replacement of individual parts of harnesses, drying of connectors ...

If you take care of the door harnesses, do not allow the connectors to acidify, monitor the drainage of the engine shield and do not flood the engine compartment with dirt, then there are good chances that the car will be limited only to annoying failures, for example, climatronic or taillights. In the fourth or fifth year of life, you can expect the "death" of the battery. The load on it is large, the generator operates at low voltage even at negative temperatures. On the oldest cars, it is recommended to pay close attention to the wiring to the steering rack, there are quite large currents, and if the connectors are sealed, they will simply burn out. Replacing the rail and wiring harness can be up to half the cost of the car, so it's best to be sure in advance. But in general, as you can imagine, the price of electrical repairs can be shocking.

Chassis

To the credit of the PQ35 platform, all VW cars can be considered almost perfect in this. Even taking into account the fact that there is a multi-link at the back, there is no particular doubt about the reliability. The main components of the suspension travel 100-150 thousand kilometers, wheel bearings serve the same amount. Most often, only the rear silent blocks of the front levers, anti-roll bar links and some rear silent blocks are changing. The repair price is also not prohibitive, a good selection of non-original components and even an inexpensive original.

The brake system also did not disappoint, and the discs and pads are very moderate, and they serve for a long time. Disks - usually at least 50 thousand kilometers, pads - at least 30-40. But the firmware of the ABS unit is inconvenient for many. According to the results of the journalistic investigation of one publication, it turned out that the system too loosens the wheels in the corners and on the "comb", which can lead to serious consequences. This is where all the bikes of the ABS opponents manifest themselves - the system simply does not allow to slow down. The situation can be corrected by updating the unit's software, this should be done free of charge as part of a recall campaign, but for some reason, on most machines, the firmware is still old, factory-installed. The new firmware does not completely solve the problem, but it noticeably shortens the braking distance in such situations, so it's worth updating.

Transmissions

Mechanical gearboxes do not have serious problems with the resource, but traditionally I will remind you that the flywheels here are dual-mass, very expensive. Sometimes they need to be repaired or changed, otherwise there is a chance to break the box and the starter for a very serious amount. But with automatic boxes, as mentioned above, there is a complete leapfrog. In Russia, the car was sold mainly with a hydromechanical automatic transmission Aisin TF60-SN / VW 09G / M, which is considered reliable and problem-free. Until it breaks, of course. Indeed, on most VWs, this box works in conditions of very severe overheating and the Tiguan is no exception. Changing the oil every 40-60 thousand kilometers and installing a "package for hot countries", which includes a separate radiator and filter for automatic transmissions, are highly recommended.

And this automatic transmission also has a very capricious and difficult-to-repair valve body, and very expensive at the same time. In general, such a box can travel its 100-150 thousand kilometers even in hard modes and without additional cooling, but if you are counting on a longer operation, then it is better to intervene in the factory design and seriously think about improvements. After 2011, cars with DSG DQ250, also known as DSG-6, were officially sold. This venerable box has not so many problems, especially in combination with the 1.4 engine. She is also prone to overheating in traffic jams and especially when driving off-road. Because of this, as well as because of the rapid contamination of the oil by wear products of clutch linings, it is worth halving the oil change interval and being prepared for valve body failures-mechatronics. However, it is definitely not worth demonizing this box. Clutches in an oil bath do not burn and do not crumble, as on a "dry" DQ200 (DSG-7), and it transfers the moment even from a two-liter engine perfectly. There are few specialists on the car, there are a number of nuances on the mechanical part, and the valve body is not officially repaired. But everything is unofficially repaired, and you can even order spare parts yourself, for example, on AliExpress. In Europe, such a box was installed on front-wheel and all-wheel drive cars with 1.4 150-160 horsepower engines and on two-liter gasoline engines from the very beginning of the model's production. We have few European cars, but they are still found. Again, an external heatsink and external filter for this box are highly recommended.

The most powerful engines are 2.0 TSI 211 hp. even we relied on the DQ500 series seven-speed DSG gearbox. In Europe, it was installed on all diesel engines, and even on some 1.4, not to mention the 200- and 211-horsepower versions of the two-liter engine. Such a "robot" is noticeably more reliable than a six-step, and certainly has nothing to do with the notorious "dry" box DQ200 at all. This unit was developed for the commercial VW Transporter and made it really reliable. This is not to say that it is completely problem-free, but it tolerates movement at low speed in difficult conditions much better due to different gear ratios, and is less prone to contamination and mechatronics failures. And its clutch resource is much higher. On minibuses, even during urban operation, there are cars with 300-400 thousand mileage and without any work on the "robot". The box has only one drawback: if something goes wrong, then the contract unit will be very expensive, and there will be very few specialists. And the price of consumables bites.

Even on dorestyling cars, the rear axle drive clutch turned out to be very troublesome - there is a fourth generation Haldex. And with frequent off-road trips and regular "annealing" the oil change interval in practice should not exceed 30-40 thousand kilometers. Moreover, both the oil and the filter for the system are easiest to find in catalogs ... Volvo (part number 31325173). If you neglect the replacements, then the pump of the system will fail, and the car will turn into a strictly front-wheel drive one. After 2011, the clutch was changed to Haldex V - it is much more reliable and corny does not allow itself to overheat so much. Transmission overheat light on dashboard will light up more often, but the clutch itself no longer requires such a frequent oil change.

Gasoline engines

Motors 1.4 of the EA111 family on it are of several series: CAXA and CZDB with a capacity of 122 hp. and the 150 hp CZDA each have one turbocharger. But CAVA and CAVD differ in an interesting power system - it uses a turbine and a drive compressor at the same time. However, the main problems of the family remained: a weak piston group, a weak chain, a lubrication system operating at the limit, a high load on the liners, weak turbines and high-pressure fuel pumps, a quickly contaminated intercooler with a weak pump. It is expected that low-power versions are less likely to have problems with complete failure of the piston group, but 150- and 160-horsepower versions suffer from turbine failures with compressors and fatal piston destruction. Motors with double supercharging are also distinguished by enviable complexity - the throttle system is prone to freezing in winter. The compressor drive clutch, combined with the pump, costs about 30 thousand rubles and is a consumable. It needs to be changed at the same time as the pump, and additionally, out of turn, when it burns out, which is not so rare.

1 / 2

2 / 2

It's amazing how, with such a set of design flaws, there are cars that have already traveled 200 or more thousand kilometers with only the timing chains replacing and general engine maintenance. Perhaps, the choice of oils and its timely replacement or successful operating modes affect. But there are also enough poor fellows in whom the car spends half of its life in warranty repairs. It's funny that such cars with very low mileage often look advantageous when sold on the secondary market. But you need to understand: the high price of a low-mileage car in this case often means that during its short life the SUV spent a lot of time in the service, waiting for the next warranty repair or "kulants" (preferential post-warranty repair). In general, with a 1.4 engine, you need to be very careful, and it is better not to take a car with this engine at all. Motors of 2 liters of the EA888 family have several options at once: CAWA, CAWB, CCZA and CCZB. But the essence is the same - these are almost identical engines with minimal differences in the power supply system and turbines. The common problems of this family are the tendency to coke the piston group due to unsuccessful oil scraper rings and piston, high load on the crankcase ventilation system due to unsuccessful compression rings, constantly dirty throttle and weak timing (however, much more reliable than 1.4). Strengths these engines have excellent traction throughout the entire rev range and fantastic tuning capabilities. Even a simple chip tuning is able to make the Tiguan a competitor to the Golf R. 300-340 hp. - this is not the limit for a nominally 170-horsepower motor. The flip side of this is the presence of both a huge number of cheap firmware, and a whole heap of cars left by "racers". If the engine was handled carefully, then most likely its resource before serious repairs will be 120-160 thousand kilometers, the timing and serious "maslozhor" are unlikely to allow more.

If the motor was seriously chipped, then anything is possible. First, they often serve better, and more frequent oil changes and the best oil can perform a small miracle - there will be no "maslozhor". But the timing and turbines here will be in a more deplorable state. There are also problems with the drive of the intake manifold flaps - it is corny that the plastic rod flies off due to wear or the filter in the vacuum drive gets clogged, but the officials change the manifold assembly. Even on two-liter engines, the resource of the ignition modules is noticeably less than 1.4. Owners often try to find some solutions, order modules from other engines, look for modules from Audi, etc., etc. But this does not change the essence of the matter, even the original NGK modules with their own candles fail quite often. Again, due to the prevalence of this family of engines, the problems and solutions have long been known. It's just that most car owners tend to hide their heads in the sand and prefer expensive official service and official solutions. But on the Tiguan, there is no particular alternative to the petrol 2.0TSI. Diesel motors in many ways more reliable, but they have their own nuances.

Diesel motors

Actually, there is also only a two-liter diesel engine. In Russia, only the 140-horsepower CBAB was officially sold, but the Europeans were offered the entire range, from 110 to 184 hp. (CFFD, CUVC, CFGC, CUWA), including with urea neutralization. These motors are as reliable as they can be. reliable diesels with their extremely vulnerable power system, particulate filter and diesel fuel that freezes in winter. In addition, on top-end motors, there are piezo injectors with a limited resource and frequent failures. If you are a neat owner, then the diesel will delight you, but one unsuccessful refueling - and now there are four nozzles of 30 thousand rubles each, plus a high-pressure fuel pump, plus all filters and an expense for flushing the tank and replacing it. A total of 160 thousand. And the savings were gone. A common misfortune of all cars with an autonomous heater is the obvious corrosion of its pipes and antifreeze leaks. This, by the way, applies not only to diesel, but also to gasoline cars.

What should you choose?

Let's just discard all unnecessary things. For example, cars with 1.4 engines, unless you have a fad on fuel consumption. You should only be afraid of DSG on the Tiguan if you spend half your life in traffic jams. Well, or if you are a Muscovite, which is almost the same thing. Everyone else will love the seven- or even six-speed DSG, although a simple Aisin with proper care is just as good. Which one of two-liter engines to choose is already a personal matter of the future owner. Diesel engines are definitely more resourceful, but noticeably more expensive in the repair of fuel equipment. Petrol engines have a quite predictable average resource, understandable problems with oil consumption and other "nuances" that can also be solved, if there were money. And if you absolutely need all-wheel drive, then the restyled Tiguan with the more reliable Haldex V clutch is definitely the best choice. The bonus is a slightly more interesting interior and exterior. But in any case, before buying a Tiguan, it is worth first assessing how ready you are for the deadly calmness of this car's design, internal and external, and whether you are resistant enough to the temptations of its dynamics and driving characteristics.

Owner reviews

In the car for 1.5 million, the button for opening the 5 door was completely frozen (this is at -2 degrees), and condensation formed in taillights... At the same time, fogging of both lanterns is not a warranty case (the officials billed 1,800 rubles for removing and installing the lanterns and drying them on a battery within 5 hours). This is the German quality ...

The gasoline consumption of the new Tiguan (automatic, 2.0 l) in winter, when driving with vegetables, did not fall below 16.5 l / 100 km. And this is after competent running-in (no more than 2,000 rpm for 1,500 km).

Liked: handling, comfort, dynamics, Shumka.

Disliked: fuel consumption, lack of USB input on the head unit.

Video review

Here they write about the steering wheel, yusb, etc. - it's all nonsense. The main drawback of the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2 is the fuel consumption of 15-16 liters ... If this is not stressful for you, then I kindly envy it.

Otherwise, the perfect crossover for the city. Optimal price-quality ratio. For six months of intense use, no questions asked.

Sergey Krel, drives a Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 (180 HP) AWD DSG 2016

We are driving a new VW Tiguan 2 from March 2016. Equipment - CLUB. The first maintenance took place at 11 thousand km, i.e. earlier than 15 thousand. By the way, all VW dealers have a special offer on Sundays - a 20% discount on maintenance. Before passing MOT, they refueled 95, periodically there was some kind of whistle for a few seconds when starting the engine, then it disappeared, the speed dropped to 0.8 in two minutes. Gone MOT - everything is OK, changed the oil, filters.

They asked about the whistle, no one answered intelligibly. We live in Crimea, 98 gasoline has been delivered to us since September. We switched to it. And a miracle - the whistle is gone, the rpm after starting the engine drops in 10-15 seconds. The car is high-spirited, the turbine turns on when the driver needs it, i.e. when overtaking in low gear and helps a lot.

Noise isolation is good. When we bought it, they scared us with oil consumption - nothing like that. There was practically no expense. In general, comfortable, dignified, crossover))

Consumption on the highway - 5.4-6.0, city - 8-10, up to 11 - if there are traffic jams. There is a good function - Autohold - keeps the car on the descent and ascent, like a handbrake, when you need to move off, you press the gas pedal and there is no rolling back at all.

Accelerates well and briskly, holds the track steadily. The speed of 120-130 km / h is not felt. I did not like the interior trim. The fabric would be better.

Irina, review of Volkswagen Tiguan 1.4 (125 HP) mechanic 2016

A very comfortable car, dynamic and economical, stylish and modern. The daily commute becomes a pleasure for the whole family. For 30 years of driving, I changed 10 cars - Tiguan did not disappoint. Of the shortcomings, I will only note that the seat upholstery material could be better.

Marina drives a Volkswagen Tiguan 1.4 (150 hp) AWD DSG 2017

Where can I buy?

The car was purchased in the spring of 2017. I had three main requirements: diesel, webasto and bumper off road... I bought this - Comfortline equipment + six option packages.

I often go outdoors (fishing, mushrooms), so I decided to change the BMW sedan to something higher. In principle, I am satisfied with the replacement, but, as they say, there are nuances. After the purchase, I pasted over the entire front of the car with a film (I drive quickly and sometimes far, and the headlights and paint become cloudy in a couple of years). I installed a mesh in the bumper - the radiators look too defenseless))

LED cornering lights, especially at night and in the rain - this is a class! Stripes LED backlight I liked the doors and thresholds too, cozy.

I do not like the fabric upholstery on the doors - it gets dirty quickly. For some reason, several electrical connectors were placed under the neck of the washer reservoir - you miss a little, and liquid gets on them. In some modes, the rearview mirror shakes and vibrates. Dipped beam - well, very close.

Review of Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 diesel (150 hp) with robot and all-wheel drive 2017

The car is purely masculine in design, austere, as my friend says: “not very smart and not very simple, effective - that is, the golden mean”. I completely agree with him.

I'm 99% satisfied with the car. What was initially embarrassing was the harsh suspension. In my configuration, there are 18 discs, 17 are decently softer, but I still don't want to change the wheels. I really like how they look. About gas mileage - 9.8 liters yesterday from work to home. Today back 12 liters, collected all the traffic lights.

Aerodynamics are also on the level. Side windows get dirty only with birds, and cats walk on the hood and leave prints of their paws. VW did not foresee this))
