Powerful homemade SUV on the basis of the GAZ-66 was built by craftsmen from the city of Belaya Tserkov. We offer you to see the photos and get acquainted with the design of this off-road "monster".

GAZ-66 has a very good characteristics driving off-road. Therefore, on the basis of an army truck, a lot of homemade all-terrain vehicles and SUVs.

The body of "Bizon" is made of body parts of the Volkswagen Passat B4 and installed on the chassis of the GAZ-66 with its replacement gasoline engine for turbodiesel 4.0 (120 hp) with a mechanical 5-speed box from the car Dong Feng DF - 40.

The car body is made on homemade frame from a profile pipe 60 x 40 x 3 mm, which is installed on 12 existing support brackets on the frame of a GAZ-66 car, through rubber cushions. There are seat mountings on the frame.

The engine is mounted on the engine mountings for the GAZ - 66 engine.
The rear gearbox mountings are installed on the transverse beam and secured with 8 M - 10 bolts for the car supporting frame.
The clutch is hydraulic from Dong Feng.
The gas pedal is connected to the engine via a cable connection.

The size of the standard GAZ-66 wheel is 12 by 18 inches. Protective caps are installed on the wheel rims.

For the manufacture of the body, ready-made doors and doorways from the Volkswagen B-4 car were taken. The front body panel, radiator grille, engine compartment fenders, front and rear fenders, rear and rear door arches are homemade.

The front bonnet is made of 1.0 mm sheet steel and features two gas lifters, a latch and a safety hook.

The brake system with a brake booster remains unchanged from the GAZ-66. The vacuum pump for the brakes is taken from a Ford vehicle and connected via a belt drive to the engine.

Volkswagen B-4 lights are installed on the rear fenders, and additional headlights are installed on the rear panel reverse connected separately via a light switch on the gearbox.
At the rear, there is a folding step on which the car's license plate and license plate light are installed.
The side steps are made of a 40x80x2 mm profile tube and are illuminated for boarding passengers at night.

The rear bumper is made of 1.5 mm sheet metal in two parts. In the middle there is an existing GAZ-66 hitch and an additional ball hitch.

The steering of the car remained unchanged, with the replacement of the GAZ-66 vertical gearbox with the GAZ-53 horizontal gearbox. The high pressure steering pump is factory installed on the compressor shaft.
The engine is cooled through a radiator with free and forced cooling through a temperature sensor.
The air intake passes through the air oil filter tractor MTZ... Output exhaust gases through a muffler GAZ -66.
Transfer gearbox and cardan transmission remained unchanged.

A home-made panel (partly taken from Volkswagen) with devices is installed in the cabin: a speedometer, a clock, a tachometer, a fuel gauge, a pressure gauge for air pressure and wheel pumping.

The control is carried out through the brake cable to the existing drum GAZ-66. There are two transfer case shift levers near the handbrake.
The seats are taken from a Mercedes "Sprinter" bus, the seat mountings are welded onto a self-made supporting profile body frame. The front seats are adjustable, the rear seats fold and flip over, freeing the rear of the body. The seats have factory fitted seat belts. On the left side of the driver's seat there is a mount for a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit.
In the rear of the cabin there is an additional swivel double seat, which can be accessed through the rear door. It has handles for opening and closing the door.
Interior lighting is carried out by two lamps: front on the ceiling near windshield, second on back door and lights up when the door is opened.

The curb weight of the car is 2950 kg. The home-made car received excellent off-road capability inherent in the GAZ-66 truck, while the SUV has a comfortable interior and excellent appearance.

The Land Cruiser looks like a child's play compared to the creation of Krasnokamensk resident Vyacheslav Zolotukhin. His SUV, if you can call it that, reaches 5.8 meters in length and 2.3 meters in width. It is even difficult to imagine that the GAZ-66 was taken as the basis for this giant.

Vyacheslav Zolotukhin is well acquainted with Japanese SUVs. In the 90s, he even ferried these cars from the Far East. He had more than one SUV at his disposal. made in Japan... Over time, the car enthusiast wanted something more than standard factory designs. Vyacheslav wanted to get a car of a fundamentally new level that would correspond to his own ideas about capacity, comfort, cross-country ability and reliability. There was a need to independently build one. The achievements of both the Japanese and the domestic auto industry were used as a basis.

The GAZ-66 was used as a base for the development of an SUV. This choice was made quite deliberately. However, this Soviet model also has its drawbacks. These include a lousy gearbox and engine, and general layout machines with a heavy engine and cab. Front axle in terms of weight distribution, it was not the most successful solution. But the GAZ-66 also has its advantages. This is especially true for military vehicles produced before 1975. Then the cars were made conscientiously. A light army truck was designed, with the calculation of the possibility of landing from the air.

One of the main advantages of the GAZ-66 is a flexible and durable frame made of 6 mm steel, as well as strong bridges. However, in the process of "civilian" operation, another drawback appeared - the engagement of the front wheels. But this problem can be easily eliminated, just enough to have some skills.

The inspiration for the design was the bare chassis of the GAZ-66 without an engine, cab and gearbox. The skeleton of the machine was ready. The wheelbase has been completely preserved. To create the body of the future giant, parts of Japanese medium-sized trucks... As an engine, the master used a unit from the five-ton giant Hino. The volume of the engine was 7.5 liters. The gearbox is 6-speed. Vyacheslav left the distribution box with his own, from the 66th, only replaced domestic bearings with imported counterparts. After that, the noise level in the car decreased noticeably.

A huge engine compartment is hidden under a huge hood. Vyacheslav borrowed the air purification system from KamAZ. The designer also decided to add a forked exhaust system. This is necessary in order to use only two compact cans instead of one huge muffler. The tank, with a volume of 180 liters, is positioned inconspicuously in front of the rear axle and is additionally equipped with protection.

Fitting the power section of the car also required significant changes: the frame cross members were redone and the fasteners were replaced. One frame had to be cut at the edges. From the point of view of the correct distribution of the load, the weighty diesel was combined as far back as possible.

This, in turn, favorably influenced the overall design of the body. It turned out to be quite traditional for all types of jeep: with a short overhang and a bridge brought forward. To lower the center of gravity, the bulky engine was positioned as far away as possible. For this, the pallet had to be additionally modified.
From the inside, the interior of an SUV looks more like a cruise cabin.

The cockpit from Isuzu Elf was taken as a basis. The luggage and rear section had to be borrowed from the Noah minivan. To dock the rear part with the cab, it was necessary to expand the dimensions with inserts and make the original rear window. The front ensemble of the car is no less interesting. For the manufacture of the wings, tank GAZ - 3307 were used. The radiator grille of the SUV is assembled from two Prado grilles. The headlights had to be borrowed from the Delica.

Take the steering wheel from a Honda passenger car. The controls turned out to be faster and sharper than those of the trucks.
The "cabin" of the SUV can easily accommodate three people. At the front is a Hiace seat that can rotate and fold into a table.

Both bumpers of the SUV were custom made from metal. Vyacheslav does not like plastic and trusts only metal. All welding seams in the SUV's structure remain invisible. In the original version, the front doors were equipped with special cutouts for the wheel arches. They are now solid.

The wheels of the car were redesigned, as a result of which the outreach increased by 10 cm. The tires were supplied from the "Tiger". It is lighter and smaller than the native one from the GAZ-66. The front hubs have become detachable. Vyacheslav used a design of the type of threaded couplings.
For reliability, the body is planted on 12 supports. Each support is made of three rubber pads.

Few can collect from sewing machine a computer. And even more so, few people are able to create a real Jeep out of a GAZ-66 military truck. But Vyacheslav Zolotukhin from the city of Krasnokamensk could! And he created Mega Cruiser Russia - beware, Hammer, your time is long gone.

This proved that the limits of the inventors' capabilities are just conventions. Instead of tuning famous brands cars in his own way, the inventor decided to create his own SUV in the form in which he wanted to see it, combining the capabilities of the Japanese and domestic car industries.

The foundation

So, at the heart of the new SUV is the chassis from the GAZ-66. The infamous Soviet military truck had many drawbacks, including: bad engine and a gearbox, a generally bulky car body, a motor above the front axle. However, until 1975, the model was made for defense. It was lighter, because it was also created for the purpose of landing from the air.

Accordingly, it is based on a fairly strong frame, strong bridges. And the problem of constant engagement of the front wheels has been eliminated.

As a result, the new super SUV required a bare chassis with the engine, transmission and cab removed. After all, the wheelbase is completely preserved, which means that the car already has a durable and practical skeleton.

Filling

The stuffing of the SUV is the parts of Japanese medium-duty trucks. Six-cylinder diesel engine from Hino with a volume of 7.5 liters. From him, a gearbox is also built into the car. The distribution box remained from its predecessor, GAZ, but it was completely redesigned by the master and got rid of Soviet bearings.

As a result, the noise has been significantly reduced and the car has become a pleasure to drive. The hood of the car is huge. The air cleaning system of the super SUV is borrowed from the good old domestic KamAZ. The cone-shaped adapter to the engine air pipe is made, it's hard to believe, from the sleeve of a tank shell! Among other things, a bifurcated exhaust system is installed in the car, and in front of the rear axle there is a 180-liter fuel tank, borrowed from the ZIL-130.

Super SUV inside

Inside, the converted GAZ-66 looks very comfortable and spacious. The Isuzu Elf's twin wide-body cab is matched with the rear luggage compartment of the Noah minivan. For docking, we had to expand the dimensions with inserts and make the original rear window.

Steering wheel from passenger car the Honda brand matches perfectly with the steering gear of the five-ton Hino. The handling is more adequate than that of trucks. Rear seats designed for three people, however spacious salon does not make sitting four people particularly uncomfortable. Double front passenger seat can be folded into a table without any problems.

And a little more about the features of the exterior

The bumpers of the car are made of metal, carefully and neatly: fit and joints of all parts are invisible. For example, earlier the doors had cutouts for wheel arches, but now they are completely solid, as if they were.

The rubber is from the GAZ "Tiger" car, it is smaller and lighter than the native one, because driving performance higher. Native discs are made "inside out", respectively, the wheel overhang is increased, which means that the entire track is expanded (by 20 cm).

The wheels are simply unrecognizable. The track is widened, stainless steel bolts, off-road tires KI-115A R18 - all this makes the converted GAZ-66 unrecognizable and unlike its predecessor. Also, the front hubs have been redesigned, now the owner will be able to "disable" the wheels.

Reliability and quality of performance

The body is mounted on the frame with 12 supports. Each of them consists of three rubber pads. This is how Japanese craftsmen create body supports for their powerful expensive cars.

This amazing super SUV called Mega Cruiser Russia is the creation of Vyacheslav Zolotukhin from Krasnokamensk, which took a year and a half to build.

The project was based on the military truck GAZ-66. Despite significant drawbacks: an unimportant engine and a four-speed gearbox, poorly thought out weight distribution due to the cab located above the engine, the GAZ-66 car had its advantages. Strong axles, solid 6mm steel frame, front and rear differential locks rear axles was carried out automatically. That is why only the chassis was borrowed from the donor, and the original cab, engine and gearbox were removed forever.

As power unit Mega Cruiser Russia uses an atmospheric 7.5-liter 6-cylinder cast iron diesel engine from the Japanese medium-duty truck Hino. Together with the engine, a six-speed gearbox was borrowed from the five-ton engine. The handout came from a donor.

Despite the general, the car was dressed in a new image. The hood is original, the fenders are made using those from the GAZ-3307, the radiator grille was assembled from two grilles from Prado, the headlights from Delica, the luggage part from the Noah minivan, the double cab from the Isuzu Elf truck, both bumpers were made independently from metal.

The interior for the Mega Cruiser Russia also inherited from the Isuzu Elf truck, but was slightly modified. The steering wheel, for example, was borrowed from a passenger car honda... Up front is a HiAce double passenger seat that even pivots and folds into a table. Well, in the back there is easily enough space for four people. If it was my will, I would, although who will hunt you in the tundra?

Wheels on Mega Cruiser Russia are "inside out" native wheels of the original car. By resorting to this simple trick, it was possible to increase the offset of each wheel by 10 cm and thereby widen the car's track by 20 cm, which had a positive effect on the stability of the tall car. The rubber used for the homemade Russian SUV is the same as for the Tiger SUV.

The size of the Russian off-road homemade product resembles a hero from automotive world and can compete with

domestic production, the birth of which took place in the Soviet Union. Already the legendary GAZ-66 has a really incredible, very high cross-country ability.

This is ensured by the special design of the wheels and, without exaggeration, the famous limited-slip differentials. This car, no doubt, will be interesting for many skillful motorists who cannot imagine their life without a variety of experiments for more than one year.

Tuning GAZ 66 Partizan


All kinds of modifications to the GAZ 66, and the modernization of other cars - an occupation that requires patience, skills and, of course, money. Sumy already depends on the volume and quality of the work performed. A prime example original tuning domestic off-roader-all-terrain vehicle, known as "shishiga", is a project called GAZ-66 Partizan.

The car that turned out looks very similar to the foreign Hummer, but it is based on the GAZ-66 chassis, which can withstand heavy loads on the off-road. The chassis is supplemented with native gas units - an engine, suspension, gearbox and razdatka.

Thanks to the engine displaced backwards, the bonnet line is kept low. The salon consists of two cabins "shishigi", the trunk and the hood are made of fiberglass. The cabin is glazed with standard glass. The driver's seat is very comfortable, the controls are in their usual places.

Thanks to the displacement of the engine, the weight distribution of the all-terrain vehicle was improved, the center of gravity was also lowered and the handling and stability were increased. Four people can easily fit in the cab of such a car. In the middle of the car, like the Hammer, there is a transmission tunnel. The dashboard is homemade, the indicators are simple and nondescript.

The purpose of the car is practical, there was no task to specifically create comfortable conditions. In addition to the usual copying of the Hammer, the craftsmen also made their own changes. There are samples in which controlled - and. the rear ones turn, and the front ones. This is another advantage of this off-road car.

Tuning the GAZ 66 engine: no chip tuning needed

As a rule, the modification of the presented car model with a 200 kg V-shaped engine ZMZ-66. However, let's return to our days and take a closer look at tuning the GAZ 66 engine.

When modifying this car, most often, they are limited to installing an MTZ engine, a D.245 diesel engine on it (or altering it, as in the video) or carry out the procedure for bracing the rings.

However, this is, let's say, the "simplest" option, if there is a desire to carry out solid tuning and install a relatively economical engine, then you can safely use Isuzu with a volume of 4 - 4.5 liters, used. In addition, the ZIL-130 very kindly "saved" for us the gearbox with the fifth gear, full synchronization and the necessary spare parts.

There were cases that the craftsmen completed the hydraulic coupling from the Shtaer-560 for the car, but there was no particular need for this. It is impossible to conduct GAZ 66 without a computer in the car. Therefore, they are limited to the modifications indicated above.

Any modernization of a car should be aimed at eliminating various kinds of problems and bringing it to a state of perfection. One of the main tasks in the finalization of the "shishiga" is to eliminate noise and dust inside the cabin, as a result of which, all the insides should be carefully insulated.

For this, it is carried out, during the implementation of which you can use such materials as vibroplast Silver, gerband SFP, visomat PB-2. You can also supply a soft 200 liter DVD player.


Tuning the dashboard GAZ 66: add brightness

The dashboard of the presented car model is quite good, it does not need to be changed. The only thing that can be done is to complement it with beautiful lighting. To do this, you need LEDs as backlight diodes. It is better to choose with white light, because they are brighter and more popular than blue light. With the help of LEDs, a good level of backlighting and a significantly improved readability of the dashboard can be achieved.

First you need to unscrew the panel screws and remove the cover, dashboard and glass. The arrows should be removed carefully. According to the recommendations of experts, you do not need to pull the device; you should remove it by gently shaking it in different directions.

Carrying out such a GAZ 66, you need to follow the sequence of installing the LEDs. A popular way is to mount an LED in place of the factory lamp. This allows, in the end, to create excellent quality and high reliability. LED backlight... Then you need to mount the backlight, check the polarity and install the panel in its original place.

Alternatively, using special programs on a computer, you can create your own stencil on devices and install it in them. Such a minor innovation will beautifully complement the overall modernized interior of the car.   1. Surely many are interested in the question of how to paint a GAZ 66 with their own hands beautifully and efficiently? It is difficult to imagine, but there is nothing complicated in this procedure. First you need to get permission from the traffic police, and then you can proceed directly to the process. Choose a drawing at your discretion. It all depends on your imagination (of course, you won't be able to create 3-D tuning the first time, but patience and dedication help to achieve a lot).
  2. As an option for upgrading a GAZ 66 car, you can use an interesting contraption - a speedometer twist. With this device, you can independently increase the mileage of the car. It must be connected via the diagnostic connector of the vehicle via the CAN bus. This is the most modern device for cheating mileage.
