Made by the author for a special order. The future owner wished to make some kind of crossing of a regular UAZA with a gas-66 and add to this composition more wheels and a few gadgets for better off-road cross-country ability. The model of such an all-terrain vehicle has undeniable advantages due to the bridges, which are virtually indestructible even under the most terrible operating conditions. In addition, they have blocking and swapping, which is also very important.

A very controversial project, even in my far from technical point of view, but nevertheless it was born.

Consider the mechanisms and materials used in this all-terrain vehicle:
1) engine internal combustion left from the UAZ.
2) Manual gearbox from Gas -66
3) Front and rear axle from the same Gaz-66
4) The author used A-trans with dimensions of 1300 by 700 as wheels.

Let's consider in detail the most basic manipulations and improvements of the all-terrain vehicle.

First you need to familiarize yourself with the frame of the structure, after all, there are two completely different cars both in terms of characteristics and class, they had to combine into one indestructible composition on a new frame.

After the construction of the frame, the author began to install the basic elements of any all-terrain vehicle, and cars too.

In order to better understand the device of the all-terrain vehicle, as well as understand the stability of the machine, you need to look at the location of the engine. After all, it is the all-terrain vehicle engine that carries the bulk of the entire structure.

For a comfortable ride on bumps and bumps, as well as for greater durability and reliability of the structure, it is necessary to reduce the load on the frame and axles, and this can only be achieved by installing a shock absorption system.

Unfortunately, the front spring mount in the photo is seen rather poorly, but best quality the author did not provide. I can only say that the author had problems regarding the difference in width, however, the solution was about the same as for the rear spring, so the mount looks almost the same.

As for the wheels, everything is fine. The selected rubber is probably only inferior in weight to the best tires from TREKOL, but thanks to these tires we can say that everything will be in order with the axles and they will last a long time. And because of the TREKOL, there is an increased load on the bridges, therefore, choosing reliability, the author decided to abandon them.

What are the advantages besides an interesting design and impressive appearance does this model all-terrain vehicle?

One of the author's good ideas was the decision to use side boxes, which can be seen on the sides of the frame, at the bottom. These side boxes are hollow inside, that is, they are filled with air. This was necessary so that the all-terrain vehicle could move not only on land, but also on water. That is, it is these boxes that provide the buoyancy of the all-terrain vehicle. Actually, thanks to this solution, thinner wheels could be used than TREKOL.

As already mentioned, the main feature of the all-terrain vehicle in reliable and non-kill bridges from Gaz-66, their excellent qualities (as well as the build quality) are proved by the fact that during the year of intensive operation of the all-terrain vehicle, no problems were found regarding the bridges of the all-terrain vehicle.

But changing the pressure in the wheels takes time. It takes 10-15 minutes to inflate or deflate all four wheels.

Plating process

Corrugated sheets increase the strength. When starting to choose them, it is necessary to take into account that the thickness of the material is 1.5–2 mm. The sheets are fastened with M5 screws, which cling to the frame with special heads. Of course, it will not be possible to create a maximum density between the frame and corrugated sheets... There will be sloppy marks after work, so you need to use rubber pads.

However, if you are not able to weld pipes or do not have the opportunity to acquire them, then you can leave the native body of the UAZ. Homemade ATVs based on this car are different, and some of them hardly change at all in appearance. Having taken up its strengthening, take care not only of the side walls of the car, but also of its roof. Pay particular attention to the underbody of the vehicle.

Having strengthened the body, you can proceed to the sheathing of the car. The process begins with the fact that we remove the old skin. Of course, it could be done during the strengthening of the body, which does not have fundamental difference.

The material for the new cladding can be either aluminum or corrugated duralumin. The latter material is the most preferable, because it has shown itself very well, resisting negative environmental factors, and the duralumin is almost not subject to corrosion. Moreover, the corrugated coating makes its sheets much stronger than other materials with a similar composition.

When choosing duralumin sheets, make sure that their thickness is at least 1.5 and no more than 2 mm. In the process of attaching them to the frame, you will need M5 screws. They have countersunk heads that cling to the frame.

Of course, it will not be possible to tightly attach the corrugated aluminum to the metal frame on the all-terrain vehicle. Poor-quality joints and gaps will remain everywhere. Therefore, it is necessary to use rubber pads, which are used as plugs.

Treat the plating process with extreme caution, because it is she who is the most problematic in all the work. So, for example, by poorly fastening structural elements to an all-terrain vehicle, you can make it vulnerable to external influences.

We will also give you this advice: M5 countersunk head bolts, as well as all the places that will then be used as fasteners, should be treated with liquid silicone. This will help protect the car from corrosion, as well as moisture that can get into the passenger compartment while crossing river fords.

We will cover the interior of our cabin with thin foam rubber and soft plastic. To glaze the interior, you can use trixel glass. When working on interior decoration, do not forget to treat the interior with silicone or liquid rubber in the same way as they did with the body.

The thin foam rubber that we use to improve sound insulation can be replaced with foam rubber. But if you do not care about comfort, then you can do without such measures at all. If you put separate blocks on each wheel, then you need to install a standard UAZ hub in the largest roller. For this reason, torque will be transmitted to the entire track mechanism. The advantage here lies in the steering control and ease of control. The ground clearance of this all-terrain vehicle will be impressive. Some people make it a little easier by placing the tracks on top of the wheels. On such tracks, it is difficult to overcome obstacles in the form of fallen trees. The rest of the structure is completely carried out in the same sequence as on a conventional swamp vehicle.
