More information about KIA

Founded in 1944, Kia Motors is Korea's oldest car manufacturer. Its name is deciphered as "to leave Asia to the whole world." Kia produced passenger and trucks under license from other manufacturers until 1986, when it began developing its own models in partnership with Ford and Mazda. During the crisis in the late 1990s, the company went through bankruptcy and became partly owned by another Korean auto corporation, Hyundai Motors Company. In the future, thanks to mutually beneficial cooperation, the two companies managed to gain a foothold in automotive markets countries of Asia, Europe and North America, while constantly improving the model range.

In Russia Kia cars won the popularity of buyers with high reliability, as well as an advantageous combination of price / quality. Kia Motors has launched production individual models at Russian production sites - from 2005 to 2011 at the IzhAvto enterprise assembled Kia spectra, and since 2011, the third generation Rio has been produced at the corporation's own plant. In addition, several Kia models are assembled by the Kaliningrad Avtotor by SKD.

Choosing the right engine oil will prevent wear and ensure proper operation car engine... In this article we will tell you which oil to fill in Kia engine Rio. In addition, you will learn how to determine the frequency of work to change the lubricant and oil filter and how to perform these work yourself.

About replacement frequency

The operating manual, which is relevant for cars of 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, recommends changing the oil every 15 thousand kilometers. However, in practice, this recommendation is only suitable for operating the machine in optimal conditions, which is not always feasible in Russia and the CIS countries.

City streets are congested, cars move at low speeds, and stand idle in traffic jams. Under such conditions, the motors operate for a long time at idle, and this does not affect the speedometer readings at all. Also, the quality of fuel at filling stations significantly affects the replacement period, which does not always correspond to the required parameters. Therefore, the optimal vehicle mileage between replacements motor lubricant there will be a mileage of about 10 thousand km, and when operating in difficult conditions, it will be reduced to 7-8 thousand km.

Some experts advise, when determining the moment when to change the lubricant, use the indications on-board computer... With its help, you can easily find out the average speed of the machine. If this figure is more than 50 km / h, you can safely operate the power unit up to a mileage of 15 thousand km. If it is in the region of 30 km / h, the mileage is reduced to 10 thousand km.

Possible causes of oil consumption

This problem occurs even in brand new cars, but most often this "disease" accompanies cars with significant mileage.

Increased oil consumption can be caused by:

  • the presence of leaks in the power unit;
  • wear of the cylinder, pistons, rings;
  • increased clearance between guide bushings and valve stems;

Typical causes of these problems:

  • improper operation of the machine;
  • driving in dusty conditions;
  • work for a long time at idle speed;
  • frequent movement at high speeds.

Which oil is better to choose

The service life of any automotive engine depends on the quality of the lubricant used. It can be difficult to independently decide on the right choice, since trading platforms are filled with a large number of motor oils from different manufacturers and of different quality. Review the recommendations of the car manufacturer, listen to the advice of experts, and only then determine which oil to fill in the Kia Rio engine.

Engine oil for Kia Rio QUARTZ grease HELIX ULTRA oil HELIX oil

Motor lubricants are distinguished according to the season of use:

  • winter lubricants;
  • summer oils;
  • multigrade engine oils.

These products are based on the following materials:

  • mineral oils;
  • semi-synthetic;
  • synthetic.

The manufacturer recommends using synthetic oils for the Kia Rio. Various additives are added to such a product, which improve wettability, have anticorrosive properties, and increase wear resistance. Manufacturer's recommended viscosity motor fluid- 5W-20, 5W-30. Also, multigrade oils with a viscosity of 10W-40 have become very popular.

If the owner decides to change the lubricant on his own, he should take into account the existing features. power units these cars.

  • Shell Helix Ultra;
  • Total Quartz;
  • Divinol;
  • ZIC XQ LS;

Shell Helix Ultra is the most suitable option from the list presented. It has a complete list of the necessary additives that ensure a long service life of the machine. Total Quartz also has a good set of additives. Divinol grease has the lowest consumption. Liquid ZIC XQ LS can also be safely used for this machine. In addition to the listed lubricants, they use the products of Mobil, Castrol, and some others.

Choosing a filter

Oil filter

Replacing engine lubricant in a Kia Rio car implies a mandatory replacement of the oil filter. For individual engine modifications, oil filters with different catalog numbers are used. For a power unit with an engine volume of 1.4 liters, the filter has catalog number 2630002503, and if the volume is 1.6 liters, the number is already 2630035504. Its cost can start from 200 rubles, it depends on the manufacturer of the spare part and the margin of the retail network.

Level control and required volume

The amount of fluid to lubricate the engine depends on the type of engine and its volume.

Before checking the oil level, after a trip, stop the engine and wait 5-10 minutes until the fluid drains into the crankcase.

Instructions for measuring the level and adding grease:

  1. Place the machine on a level, horizontal surface.
  2. The dipstick is located at the front of the engine compartment, the filler plug is on the right side of the cylinder head cover.
  3. Take out the level meter, wipe it with a rag and put it back in place.
  4. Remove the dipstick again. The lubricant level should be between the Max and Min marks.
  5. To add oil, turn the oil filler cap counterclockwise and remove it.
  6. Oil must be poured into the engine, controlling its level on the dipstick. Before removing the level gauge, wait a couple of minutes for the oil to drain into the crankcase.

The motor lubricant must be of the same brand, viscosity and quality class as the one filled in before.

DIY engine oil change

There are two ways to change the engine lubricant on a Kia Rio car: this is a vacuum pumping of used fluid or the standard method of draining old oil. For the first case, you will need special equipment that pumps out the lubricant through the hole for the dipstick. Such equipment is not available in all service stations, and it is absent in personal garages due to the high cost.

It is much cheaper to make a replacement in the standard way, in which the service life is drained through the drain hole lubricating fluid... This method is considered more reliable, since most of the sediments and contaminants are collected in the lower part of the sump, from where they can be completely removed.

Required tools and consumables

In addition to fresh oil, you will need the following:

  • oil filter;
  • drain plug sealing gasket. Catalog number 21513-23001;
  • empty containers of the required volume to collect used oil;
  • rags to remove spilled grease;
  • a “17” wrench or similar head.

In some cases it may be necessary, 3 liters will be enough.

Algorithm of actions

The engine oil is drained from the engine only when it is hot. This can be done at the end of the ride, or the motor can be run for about 10 minutes.

Important! When draining oil on a hot engine, be careful not to get burned.

The procedure will be something like this:

  1. The car is installed on a flyover, a lift or over a viewing pit. After that, stops under the wheels should be substituted.
  2. The crankcase guard prevents the lubricant from draining, it must be dismantled.
  3. After that, the waste liquid is poured into an empty container. Before this, carefully unscrew the drain plug. The cap of the oil filler neck is first removed, this will accelerate the flow of the lubricant.
  4. Now remove the oil filter and install a new spare part.
  5. The drain plug is cleaned of impurities, a new gasket is installed on it, and then screwed into place.
  6. The required amount of motor lubricant is poured into the engine, how much to pour it was previously reported. The volume of the poured mixture is controlled by the measuring probe. The lubricant level should be between the Min and Max marks.

Such an operation does not cause any particular difficulties for the owners. It is easy to do in the garage with your own hands.

Filling engine oil into the engine

Replacing the filter

Some difficulties can be caused by the removal of an old oil filter. On a hot engine, it has a high temperature, so work with gloves. It is not always possible to unscrew it by hand; you can use various devices to dismantle it. Some drivers pierce the filter housing with a thin screwdriver or punch, and then use this tool as a lever to turn the filter out of place.

Before installing a new filter, fill it with fresh oil. It will be enough to fill in 150-200 grams of grease, lightly grease its O-ring with oil. After that, install the filter element in its place. To seal the filter, it is enough to tighten it by hand, in the future this will make it easier to dismantle the product that has served its life.

Consequences of untimely replacement

If the timing of the oil change is not observed, accelerated wear of the engine parts occurs. Modern oils have additives that improve their properties. Working in high temperature conditions, these additives gradually burn out, the lubricant performance deteriorates. As a result, oil starvation can occur, which can cause cranking of the crankshaft liners.

Parts of the turbocharger compressor suffer greatly from the used oil. Contaminated grease clogs the oil supply channels, which can cause seizure of the shaft of this unit or other mechanisms. Old oily liquid does not dissipate temperature well from overheated engine parts, which also has a bad effect on its condition.

Changing the engine oil is an important procedure that does not forgive mistakes. Let's consider it on the example of a car Kia rio, very popular in our country. The readers are presented with many useful information that will surely be valuable for both beginners and experienced owners Kia ceed.

As you know, without qualified and timely service, any car will break down, and the upset owner will eventually sell it. First of all, it is necessary to pay special attention to the engine of the car (in this case, the Kia Ceed), since it is the "heart" of the car. The same goes for the choice, as well as the frequency of engine oil changes.

How often to change the oil on a Kia Rio

Kia has set the same oil change interval for all generations of Kia Ceed. So, it is once a year or every 15 thousand km. This is in theory, but in practice the situation may differ - take, for example, different operating conditions, climate change, road surface quality, driving style, etc. These factors determine how fast the oil will be consumed. In this regard, some experienced owners have calculated the replacement interval themselves. So, let's name the most suitable oil change intervals for Kia Ceed:

  1. Every 15 thousand km - subject to speed mode from 50 km / h and more
  2. Every 10 thousand km - subject to the speed limit at 30 km / h
  3. Every 7 thousand km - if the speed limit is less than 20 km / h

It turns out that the lower the average speed, the more often there is a need to change the oil.

Tolerance and class

At the right choice oil, all parameters must be taken into account, the appropriate class and tolerance must be selected. More information about this is indicated in the user manual for the Kia Ceed.

To date, three generations of Kia Rio are known. There is a well-founded opinion that the newer the car, the more stringent the oil quality requirements for it.

For example, for the first generation Kia Rio, we recommend an oil with API SL classes, as well as ILSAC GF-3. In fact, now all the oils available on the market meet the specified grades. The main thing here is that this standard is not higher than the specified one, that is, of a higher class.

For the second generation Kia Rio, oil with API SM and ILSAC GF-4 standards is suitable. It often happens when the design of the car supports more high standard- for example, as in this case - API SN and ILSAC GF-5.

The third generation Kia Rio is designed to support more modern oils with API SN and ILSAC GF-5 parameters.

As for the additives, it is not recommended to add them to the oil, since they really quality oil there must be sufficient lubricating properties.

Viscosity

Modern power plants equipped with Kia Rio cars have small gaps in piston group... In this regard, such motors require oil with a low viscosity in order to avoid "dry" friction and better remove heat from the heated components of the internal combustion engine. As a result, it turns out that with the release of all new generations of Kia Rio, the recommended viscosity index is gradually decreasing - if earlier it was at the level of 40, now it is no more than 20. These parameters need to be given special attention, since engines with a lower viscosity do not support oils with higher viscosity. In extreme cases, non-observance of the rules can lead to premature wear of the most loaded engine parts due to their oil starvation.

How much oil to fill in Kia Rio

Let's pay attention to the amount of oil to be poured for a specific Kia Rio engine:

  • Diesel 1.1 75 HP with. (production started in 2011). Required volume - 4.8 liters
  • Gasoline 1.2 87 HP with. (Since 2011). Volume - 3.3 liters
  • Gasoline 1.3 75-82 HP with. (2000) - 3.4 liters
  • Petrol 1.4 97 l. with. (2005). 3.3 liters
  • Petrol 1.5 98-108 HP with. (2000). 3.3-3.7 liters
  • Diesel 1.4 90 HP with. (2011). 5.3 liters
  • Diesel 1.5 109 hp with. (2005). 5.3 liters
  • Gasoline 1.6 112 HP with. (2005) - 3.3 liters
  • Gasoline 1.6 123 HP with. (2011) - 3.3 liters

Which company oil to fill

Change engine oil on a car KIA Rio can be at a service station (STO) or independently. This procedure is described in some detail in the manual for the car, and is not particularly difficult. Taking into account the prices for service stations, it is best to change the oil yourself. This will significantly save the family budget.

Usually, do-it-yourself engine oil change on Kia Rio 2011-2017, is no different from the procedure that is carried out at the service station. The recommended frequency of changing engine oil on the Kia Rio is 15,000 km. But in practice, it is better to make a replacement after 7000-10000 km. This is not surprising when you take into account the condition of the roads and the urban pace of the car with frequent stops. All these circumstances lead to a rapid deterioration in the quality of engine oil. First of all, the lubricating and cleaning properties of the oil deteriorate, which greatly increases engine wear and reduces its resource. At the same time, with the replacement of the engine oil, one should not forget about the replacement of the oil filter. Oil and filter are always changed at the same time on any car.

In practice, changing the oil on the KIA Rio independently can be done in two ways:

- Vacuum pumping of oil. Vacuum pumping is usually done through the engine oil dipstick hole. This method is good because there is no need for a lift or overpass. The main disadvantage is the need to use special equipment, which is not even available in every service station.

- Draining from the pallet of the car. The second, traditional and proven method for decades, is more reliable, since all waste accumulates in the engine sump. Vacuum pumping is simply not capable of pumping out all of the waste oil from the sump.

To change the oil, we need:

  1. Oil filter - 26300-35503.
  2. Engine oil - usually authorized dealer pour barrel SHELL HELIX ULTRA 5w-30, it is recommended by the KIA plant. But you can buy it in an ordinary four-liter canister. When choosing an oil, it is worth considering what is indicated in the guarantee: 5W-30 oil of SN or SM class (SN- is better, since it is a more modern standard).
  3. Engine oil pan drain plug gasket - 21513-23001
  4. Wrench for "17" for twisting the drain plug.
  5. Flushing oil 3 liters.

Change of oil.

The replacement process is carried out on a warm engine, the heated oil is more fluid and easily drained from the lubrication system.

- After a ten-minute warm-up of the engine, you need to drive into the inspection pit. If necessary, this is not difficult, you should unscrew a few fastening bolts. will prevent us when replacing the oil filter. At a certain level of dexterity, it is possible to remove the protection not completely, but to unscrew only two bolts fastening to the subframe.

- Then it is necessary to drain the used oil from the crankcase into a container specially prepared for this purpose. The crankcase plug must be unscrewed very carefully, as the oil is very hot, it is better to use gloves and glasses.

- After the oil has glass, the plug can be changed in two ways, with and without flushing oil:

  1. With flushing oil. Tighten the drain plug after replacing the drain plug gasket, and fill in about 3 liters of flushing oil. Run the engine for about 10 minutes and drain the oil again. (There is a way to remove residual flushing oil by repeating the flushing procedure only, using 2-2.5 liters of oil, which you will fill when changing.)
  2. No flushing oil. With this option, we remove the remnants of the used oil from the crankcase, for this we use a syringe with a curved needle.

The question of the use of flushing oil is in cases where it is not known which oil was filled earlier or a switch to another type of oil is made. In other cases, you can do without using it. Modern engine oils already have detergent and cleaning properties in the required amount for cleaning the engine lubrication system.

- Now you can twist the oil filter for replacement. As a rule, this can be done by hand without using a special tool. Before installing a new filter, it is worth pouring 150-200 ml of oil into it. Then we carefully screw on the new oil filter with our hands. There is enough hand strength to tighten the filter, this will allow you to easily twist it with your hands the next time you change it.

If it didn't work out to remove the filter by hand, it doesn't matter if there is a special tool or the old old-fashioned way. It's simple, we take a thicker screwdriver and a hammer, punch through the filter with a screwdriver and unscrew it with this lever.

- After completing all the procedures with the key on "17" we tighten the drain plug, having previously replaced the gasket.

If you are the owner Kia car Rio 2011-2015 years of release, then you are in luck - these models are installed very reliable and modern engines... However, it should be noted that without proper care, any motor will soon begin to fail and it will be necessary to forget about its capabilities.

One of the most important aspects in servicing power units on the Kia Rio (including 2013 and 2014) is the regular oil change, and you can do this even more often than the manufacturer recommends. In our article we will consider what kind of better oil fill in your car, what are the options and compare their pros and cons.

It is absolutely clear that the oil must be changed regularly and in a timely manner. This is especially true for cars from 2011, 2012 and 2013, since they have been in operation for some time and the engine is receiving a serious load. The main indicator of an oil is its viscosity, which helps determine the degree of fluidity. Using the right oil, you can completely protect your engine from premature wear. For engines that are installed on the Kia Rio, you need to use a product with a viscosity of 5W-30 or 5W-40. It is also advisable to always monitor oil filter and change it at the same time as the oil, whatever the condition.

Engine oil selection

Before you run to the store and purchase the goods of a particular company, you need to find out what characteristics the oil should have for use in the 2011-2015 Kia Rio. Given these features, we have selected several suitable options, which we will consider:

  • Shell Helix Ultra.
  • Total Quartz.
  • Divinol.
  • ZIC XQ LS.

The first option is one of the best oils in terms of price - quality ratio. The analysis showed that this product has the necessary set of necessary substances and additives, and therefore its use for Kia motor Rio is entirely justified. Moreover, Shell Helix Ultra oil does not lose its qualities for a long time and retains its protective properties, which is also an undoubted advantage for this option.

Total Quartz also has impressive performance and is capable of keeping all engine components in top condition. The price of this product is small, but at the same time it fulfills itself 100%. As in the case of the previous version, the oil retains its characteristics even at a fairly high mileage.

Divinol oil boasts low consumption. It should be noted that this brand is little known, but this does not affect its quality in any way. Therefore, this option is perfect for your Kia Rio and will fulfill all its functions.

Another good product with affordable price is the ZIC XQ LS. It has an impressive list of additives, and this directly affects the protection of the engine from wear. It can also be safely poured into the engine of your car.

Which of the oils is better is difficult to say, because they are all good. Of course, you can pick up another oil, more expensive, but the options presented by us are the most optimal for the 2011-2015 Kia Rio. The first replacement should be done after 3000 km of run, since this is enough to run the engine. Subsequent replacements should be at least once every 10,000 km. In this case, you need to fill in about 3 liters of liquid, then check its level, and it should not be higher than the F mark.

Replacement process

You can change the oil either at a service station or do it yourself. The first option is much simpler, but it involves monetary costs. If you do not want to pay, then you can do everything yourself. To do this, you need to drive the car into the "hole" and unscrew the plug, which is located on the motor sump. Be very careful here as the oil is hot and can harm you. When it is completely drained, you must remove the filter.

After all these procedures have been completed, it is recommended to remove the remaining dirty oil from the sump. To do this, you can use a syringe on which a curved tube will be worn. It should be noted that this is an optional procedure, but it certainly will not be superfluous. Next, you need to pour fresh product into the Kia Rio engine and the car will not let you down.

Among other things, you will need to prepare the following tools and materials in advance:

  • 1. Rubber gloves.
  • 2. Newspapers and rags.
  • 3. Bucket (to drain old oil into it).
  • 4. Socket wrench (for removing the plug from the pallet).
  • 5. Open-end wrench (for removing the filter).

So, we tried to give some tips on which oil to choose for the Kia Rio. As you can see, it is not difficult to do this and replace it. The main thing is to clearly know what characteristics are necessary for your engine and purchase only high-quality and suitable oil... Whichever you choose from our list, you can be sure of its reliability.
