Hyundai Matrix is a 5-door, 5-seater mini-micro van. M-class machine made in South Korea. Mini MPV in the same assembly was created by the automobile concern of Korea, as a car for trips big family or a delivery car for offices.

Production began in 2001. In some car markets, it was sold under the brand name Hyundai Elantra La Vita. Produced on the Hyundai Elantra XD platform. Prepared together with the Italian studio Carozzeria Pininfarina S.p.A. In 2011, Hyundai Matrix was replaced in the line of Hyundai ix20 models.

Due to the exhaust type extremely inclined forward front glass and the characteristic feature of the geometry of the hood, the engineers managed to increase the aerodynamics of the car, which are characteristic of tall bodies.

Not bad for such a car ground clearance 16 cm provides the minivan with good cross-country ability, in comparison with similar machines. The front wheels are placed in front of the engine, while the rear wheels are almost under the rear bumper. In 2003, the brand was updated, which affected the front and rear lights of the car, and, moreover, the radiator grill.

2005 was marked for Hyundai with another small restyling. The type of head optics, radiator grille was changed, the redesign model of 2006 was left without 2 built into the floor luggage compartment boxes for tools. Tinting at the car glass factory was now available only in the top-end variation, or for an additional fee. And 2008 at the Geneva Motor Show was marked by an updated version of this car, which was presented as the 2nd generation of the brand. This year's model has acquired the distinctive curves of the Matrix.

The air intake nozzle on the front bumper has been enlarged. "Fog lights", head optics turned in the other direction. The front wings have become slightly wider, making a convex arch. The characteristic exclusivity of the Hyundai Matrix is an absolute view in a circle, as well as a high seating position. Large doors make it easy to get into the car.

Hyundai Matrix interior

The interior of the car is very original. Where the instrument panel should be, an information screen is installed to facilitate monitoring the status of all vehicle systems. And the dashboard itself is installed on the console in the center. The seats are good, their rigidity is average, with excellent lateral support, for the driver - with an armrest. The rear seats are adjusted horizontally (by 19.5 cm) - this is very good for the legs, and vertically by 23… 58 grams, which allows convenient placement and a good view of the track. The fifth door is opened as usual - upwards. The salon also has a large number of compartments for storing various things. There is a shoe compartment under the front seats, and their backs are equipped with folding tables. There are also many small containers on the front panel and about twelve cup holders inside the cabin.

There is an onboard computer to fully control the road. The Electronic Time and Alarm Control System monitors all the electronic mechanisms of this vehicle.

What can be said in the conclusion?

Hyundai Matrix is an excellent car with all the above qualities and characteristics. Reviews on the worldwide network about this car are only positive, it's up to you to decide.

In the early 21st century, the Korean brand began courting customers from the Old World. The launch of the Matrix coincided with the opening of Hyundai's European headquarters outside Frankfurt. The Korean van was developed on the compact Elantra platform. The specific body style was created in the Pinifarina studio. Incompletely consistent lines evoke mixed feelings. The owners of the Matrix claim that this madness has its own flavor. The lowered side window line combined with the high seating position gives a sense of space and good visibility. This is confirmed when maneuvering.

It is a pity that the turning circle exceeds 11 meters. Fortunately, parking is not a problem. Hyundai Matrix is only 4.03 m long. In terms of its size, it is comparable to the Opel Meriva, a classic representative of the micro van segment.

Hyundai Matrix has been upgraded twice. In 2005, the radiator grille was enlarged, the headlights changed, and a new one appeared diesel engine... The time for the next facelift came in 2008. The redesigned front end and dark plastic in the cabin changed the car for the better. The optional ESP improves safety and the diesel particulate filter makes the engine more environmentally friendly.

There is no lack of space in the cabin. The front seats are spacious and properly profiled. Steering column it is adjustable only in height, but finding a comfortable driving position is not difficult. Most Matrix on secondary market presented by pre-styling copies with hard and gray plastic. Hyundai could do better. A family car allows you to come to terms with many aesthetic imperfections. Especially when there are enough practical solutions. The rear seat is asymmetrically divided into two parts and changes its longitudinal position in the range of 19 centimeters. The backrest has tilt adjustment and a hidden armrest. There are folding tables and cup holders at the rear of the central tunnel at the disposal of passengers. There is plenty of headroom and legroom. The absence of a tunnel on the floor will be appreciated by the passenger in the middle.

The dashboard hit the very top of the center console. Only the main signaling devices were left in the driver's field of vision - the direction indicator, the minimum fuel level and the oil pressure turned on parking brake and high beam, open doors and others. The simple look of the badges clearly confirms that until recently Hyundai was focused solely on functionality. The arrangement of the instrument panel is the only extravagance. Inside, everything is very trivial. In addition to the convenient air conditioning control panel and the classic audio headunit, there are several compartments for small items.

The 354-liter trunk doesn't disappoint. Especially when you consider the compact dimensions of the Matrix body. The backrest of the rear sofa can be folded down if necessary. To get a flat floor, simply lift the folded sofa up to the upright position. The large opening of the fifth door and the low sill make it easy to load large items. There are hidden compartments for small items under the bench in the second row.

Independent suspension of both axles provides good comfort absorbing most of the irregularities. The situation changes when the driver decides to hit the gas harder. When cornering quickly, the body starts to roll, and the steering characteristics do not allow assessing the margin of adhesion of the wheels with the road. Even the engine noise, clearly audible from both gasoline and diesel units, frightens off dynamic driving.

For the Hyundai Matrix, gasoline engines with a working volume of 1.6 liters (103 hp, 141 Nm) and 1.8 liters (122 hp, 162 Nm) were provided. Any of them for an additional fee could be combined with a 4-speed "automatic". The line included and diesel unit- 1.5 liters (82 HP, 187 Nm; since 2005 102 HP, 235 Nm and 110 HP, 235 Nm).

The turbodiesel used after 2005 deserves positive recommendations. Three-cylinder diesel engine Italian company VM Motori with timing belt, gave way to a four-cylinder diesel engine of Hyundai's own design with a chain-type timing drive. The new turbodiesel is quieter and has high torque. The latter is sorely lacking gasoline engines... Good traction could only be achieved by turning the gasoline engine up to 4500 rpm. Therefore, overtaking on a loaded car makes you seriously tense up.

Hyundai Matrix is not the best in DEKRA ratings. During technical inspections, a loss of tightness in the power-assisted steering system was relatively common. Corrosion has been detected repeatedly brake pipes... DEKRA experts also note the rapid wear of brake discs and pads, and the appearance of cracks on the CV joints. With a mileage of more than 100,000 km, play appears in the ball bearings and suspension bushings.

At first glance, the list of faults can seem long. However, most of the problems are due to careless exploitation. Severe failures that can immobilize the vehicle are rare. There are problems with the immobilizer and starter. In some instances thermostats are rented.

Matrix owners most often complain about corrosion attacking the rear fenders, wheel arches and body edges.

Those interested in buying diesel versions can be recommended 102 and 110 strong modifications. Earlier diesels had problems with the injection system.

Finding spare parts is not a difficult task, especially if the Internet is used for this. All thanks to the technical affinity of the Matrix with other Hyundai models. Equally important, the prices for branded substitutes are quite affordable.

Hyundai Matrix is an undervalued car, and therefore quickly loses in value. Yes, its exterior and interior are not impressive, but the mechanics and internal volume give no reason for disappointment. If your budget is limited, but you need a moderately fresh family car, then the Hyundai Matrix is worthy of your attention.

Advantages:

Affordable cost of used copies;

Spacious salon;

Few major malfunctions.

Disadvantages:

Specific body design;

Poor interior trim;

Potential resale issues.

The Matrix was designed based on the Lantra III, Hyundai Motor Company's first station wagon. However, the parameters of the body have undergone quite strong changes. The car is the second minivan of the company (the first was Trajet) and the first compact van in particular. It debuted first in Asia with the Lavita, and then in Europe in 2001, where Hyundai introduced the same model, but called the Matrix. The version for the European market received a more powerful engine, a 1.5-liter unit with a capacity of 100 hp is installed on the Lavita.

While creating Matrix, Hyundai specialists, first of all, aimed to create a car in which it will be good, convenient and comfortable. It is perfect for family walks and business trips. In urban areas it is distinguished by good maneuverability and small dimensions (height - 1635 mm, length 4025 mm), but at the same time the car pleasantly surprises with its spacious interior.

Matrix is designed by the legendary Italian studio Pinifarina.

It is easy to get inside through large doorways. The interior design is original. So, for example, in place of the dashboard there is an information display with a set of warning lamps, which greatly facilitates control over the state of all systems. And herself dashboard placed on the center console and turned to the side to constantly be in the driver's field of vision. As a result, the visibility is increased, and it becomes easier to follow what is happening on the road.

The seats are solid, moderately stiff, with sufficient lateral support, the driver's - with an armrest. The rear seats are adjustable horizontally (195mm range) for extra legroom and vertically (23-58 degrees) for comfortable seating and better road visibility. The Hyundai Matrix windshield has a convex shape and is somewhat recessed - this improves aerodynamic performance and also increases visibility.

The transformation of the cabin allows the rear seats to be fully folded down and get one flat surface, which is very convenient when transporting goods. Backdoor opens traditionally - up. The trunk, despite the short overhang, is large enough; a full-size spare wheel is located under its floor.

Provided in the cabin and many convenient storage compartments. Two niches in the side walls of the trunk and under the row of the rear seats are for tools. There is a shoe compartment under the front seat, and folding tables are installed in the backrests of the front seats. There are also many small containers on the front panel and about 12 cup holders throughout the cabin.

For complete control of the situation on the road, an on-board computer is provided. It displays information about fuel consumption and distance to refueling, tracks the distance traveled, travel time and much more. A special sensor warns when the handbrake is on.

The heart of the Matrix today can be one of three engines: 1.6 l / 103 hp, 1.8 l / 122 hp, as well as a three-cylinder turbodiesel with 82 hp. The car is delivered to Russia only with the most powerful 1.8 liter engine.

Transmission to choose from: automatic or manual.

Brakes on Matrix with anti-lock braking system, disc in front, and drum in the back.

MacPherson front suspension is the best option equipping passenger car. Rear suspension Dual - link successfully copes with the side roll of the car when entering a turn.

Matrix has a good security system. The body is the first line of defense. Critically important elements the bodies, made of high-strength steel, provide maximum rigidity and protect the driver and passengers. In a collision, the load-bearing structures of the body are deformed according to specially calculated schemes - this allows you to extinguish the main force of the impact. The presence of airbags and seat belts with pretensioners is natural.

The fuel pump and filter are combined into one unit and are located inside the gas tank. This is the safest of all existing systems... Leakage and ignition of fuel after an accident are excluded.

The Hyundai Matrix comes standard with ABS and EBD. These systems ensure an even distribution braking efforts depending on the road surface and interior load and shorten the braking distance.

Hyundai Matrix headlights use the Multi Focus Reflector (MFR) system. The light from the lamp hits the reflectors, which refract the light into the guide lens and prevent oncoming drivers from being dazzled.

Hyundai Matrix combines all the virtues you should have modern car: reliability, safety, comfort, convenience and power.

Well, that happened. There was a car and no car. Sold for 380 tr.
I will try to describe brief history possession of this device, although I myself practically did not operate it, my wife went. Actually, she also leveled it from all sides, which had a great effect on its price when it was sold. Before that, in exactly the same trimmed state, the Chevrolet Lacheti was sold, to which, after 4 years of operation, not a single question arose at all (the crushing of the iron on the curb does not count).
To begin with, I bought the Matrix, in a state of extreme haste, the reason for which I will not describe. Before me, the car drove around Moscow. When buying, 430 thousand Russian money were transferred. signs. After 30 min. drive, the ABS lamp came on. The hmyr who sold this pepelats to me naturally threw himself into denial, like everything was fine yesterday.
After arriving at the corporate service at the NSC (at Energetikov in the Autoworld), a diagnosis was made - the contacts from two sensors were rotted away. These are the consequences of the Moscow winters with their wonderful reagents. This is science to all of you. Never buy a car from Moscow! All sensors have been replaced. In addition, it was revealed that it was necessary to replace all rubber bands on the racks, eggs, silent blocks, etc. In short, everything that was rubber, everything became stiff and fell apart. I feel sorry for these unfortunates, fate has already given them cosmic prices for real estate and food, and then there are reagents.
Everything was replaced. "Pleased" with the price. We gave about 20 tr. with work. Then there was TO 60 for 32 tr. (additionally changed all the pads) But as I understand it, this is typical for this brand. First, lure you with a favorable price, and then squeeze you out of the service. Fortunately, the office where the wife works paid for everything. The wife's boss appreciates her, but she has an extremely scandalous character and it is easier to pay than not to pay. In this case, this property of her character was highly appreciated by me.
You need to write a separate review about the Autoworld service, but in general, it's horrible.
Now, about the pros of a car.
A roomy interior with compact dimensions is a fact. Warm in winter and cold in summer, this is also a fact. Started up in cold weather badly before replacing the timing belt for TO 60. Perhaps the corners swam. After replacement, it wound up like a clock. The suspension is very flexible and the car behaves like a regular sedan. I had the good fortune to own Renault Scenic for two years, there is something to compare. Although in terms of comfort and performance, this is heaven and earth.
Shumka is not very good, but not entirely bad either. Not bad ground clearance, but I immediately put 195-60-15 tires. It has become higher, quieter, more comfortable, but in the winter snow is packed. Bad, but not critical.
There are IsoFix mounts, which is very good for families with children, like mine. For example, on the FF-2, not all trim levels have it. Full of all kinds of shelves, which adds convenience.
Minuses.
They don't really exist. The main disadvantage is not the car itself, but the attitude towards it in our country. It is extremely unpopular, not fashionable, and young people are ashamed to ride it. For this money, they'd rather buy a BMW 98-00 and prancing around. But this, I think, will pass. In Europe, I saw a huge number of Matrixes, including restyled ones after this version, which we did not sell at all.
Summary.
Is the car good - yes. Will I recommend it - no, not now, not in our country, unless you take it for a very long time.
P.s. I sold it in one day. But, firstly, I was lucky and the person was looking for the Matrix (and this, believe me, is rare), and secondly, I gave a very reasonable price.
Good luck to everyone and not a rod or a stone.

The Koreans developed the five-seat inexpensive compact MPV "Matrix" immediately "with an eye on" the European markets, so the development of the design of this car was entrusted to the Italian studio "Pininfarina" (one of whose specializations is the design of cars). And to make it affordable - they created it on the platform of the "third Elantra" (which by that time had already "paid for itself" long ago) ... And now - in 2001, in Frankfurt, this "compact South Korean pragmatist", also known under the name "Lavita".

In 2005, Hyundai Matrix underwent the first modernization - then, in addition to updating the exterior, its 3-cylinder "diesel" was replaced by a new, more powerful, 4-cylinder.

The second "wave of updates" overtook the compact MPV in 2008 - its appearance, again, was "adjusted to the current corporate style" (the Italians were still engaged in this business) and the diesel engine was increased in power. In this form, he remained until "the end of his career" - that is, until 2010.

Although formally (its platform is "golf-class" - with a wheelbase of 2600 mm) it is a compact car, but in terms of size (thanks to short overhangs) it can be mistaken for a "subcompact". Its length is only 4025 mm, width - 1740 mm, and its height is quite "Ven'ovskaya" - 1685 mm. By the way, its ground clearance is also quite practical - 160 mm.

The outlines of the body of this compact van are quite harmonious (a “layman” may even take it for a hatchback) - a similar effect is achieved thanks to the accentuated differences in the door openings and the sloping hood that smoothly merges into the windshield, as well as the longitudinal edges and stampings. The 15-inch wheels also play an important role in the "harmony of the image". However, the "massive front end", after the last "restyling", definitely gives it a compact van.

Thanks to the huge doorways, as well as the high-positioned seats, it is very easy to get inside the Hyundai Matrix - in fact, you "enter" the salon (only slightly bending down). However, the automaker positioned it this way - as "a car that is bigger inside than it looks from the outside" ... Indeed, the car is quite spacious and this is not an "optical illusion" at all. There is enough space in width and length, but the height of the ceiling "will not upset even a basketball player."

Large windshields coupled with generous exterior mirrors and a high seating position - all this provides excellent visibility. But for the same reasons, every Hyundai Matrix owner will benefit from tinting the windows (in the sun, the salon turns into an “oven”). In this context, it is good that already standard equipment Hyundai Matrix provides for the presence of an air conditioner.

Landing in this car is "bus" - the legs are at an angle of 90 degrees, the back is vertical ... however, it is quite comfortable to sit. The Koreans made the seats sound and moderately hard, the driver's armrest is quite enough. In addition to two mandatory adjustments, there is also the possibility of changing the height of the pillow parts, as well as setting the lumbar support. The steering wheel is very pleasant to the touch, has an optimal diameter and section, and is adjustable in height.

Instrument panel, which, in addition to the tachometer and speedometer, has temperature, fuel level and display sensors on-board computer, is located unusually - in the center of the dashboard. The rest of the data is transmitted to warning lamps, which are located in a more familiar place - right in front of the driver. Is it reasonable or not? It is difficult to understand, but an experienced driver will be able to get used to it in a couple of days. The rest looks pretty comfortable and familiar.

The gearbox selector is located "in the floor" (or rather, in the lower area of the center console). Control of wipers and lights, like most Korean models of the automotive industry, are located on the steering column switches. Mirrors and glasses are electrically operated, the buttons of which are located on a convenient door armrest. The heated seats are switched on "on the floor" - near the handbrake.

There are incredibly many cup holders and small pockets in the Matrix. There are large convenient pockets in the doors, and the rear seats hide the presence of two drawers under them, two more are in the trunk. The backs of the front seats have folding tables equipped with gas springs.

In the back seat, the legs of passengers feel at ease, even when the front seats are pushed back to the maximum. To achieve this effect, Korean engineers had to work hard. The point is that the separate backseat can be adjusted not only in length, but also in the inclination of the back. This makes it possible to adjust the volume of the rear passenger area, as well as the luggage compartment. The second row easily accommodates three passengers, who can use the stand-alone rear lighting.

The back door of the "Matrix" traditionally opens upwards. The trunk here is not to say that it is large - 354 liters "by default", but if you fold the rear sofa, its volume increases to 1284 liters. By the way, under the raised floor in the trunk, he can easily fit a spare wheel.

The chassis, of course, borrowed from Hyundai elantra and it's pretty well set up. The handling of the car is confident, reliable, but by no means sporty. Due to the height - rolls are felt when cornering, understeer increases. But the steering wheel is still "adequate and saturated." At the same time, the smoothness of the ride is quite acceptable (the shock absorbers, however, often do not cope very well at full load). In general, the suspension is virtually silent. There are no unnecessary sounds in the cabin either. Brakes and ABS - work out "by five".

Specifications. Initially, the Hyundai Matrix was equipped with one of two gasoline engines(which work in tandem with a 5-speed "mechanics" or 4-speed "automatic":

  • 1.6-liter 103-horsepower (fuel consumption is about 8 liters per 100 km of track, acceleration to 100 km / h is provided in 13 ~ 14 seconds)
  • 1.8-liter 122-horsepower (fuel consumption is about 9 liters per 100 km of track, acceleration to 100 km / h is provided in 11 ~ 13 seconds)

Later they were joined by a 3-cylinder "turbo-diesel" (it worked only in tandem with the "mechanics") with a capacity of 82 hp. (consuming about 6 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km of track and providing acceleration "to hundreds" in "unhurried" 18 seconds) ... as a result of the modernization of 2005, it was replaced by a new 4-cylinder "turbo-diesel" with a capacity of 102 hp. (14 ~ 15 seconds "up to a hundred" and a consumption of about 5.5 liters), and in 2008 it was updated - the power increased to 110 hp.

Prices. In 2017, Hyundai Matrix in Russia, in the secondary market, can be purchased at a price of 250 to 500 thousand rubles (depending on the condition, equipment and year of manufacture of the car).
