Tires from the Russian manufacturer Cordiant are often compared in terms of performance with tires from the Finnish manufacturer Nokian. Such a comparison is quite appropriate because most of the tire models are the same in terms of performance and the components used in the rubber compound for the production of tires. They can also be compared with unspoken indicators such as safety, comfort of use, grip on the road surface and other characteristics.

So which tires are the best and which models should you choose in different seasons? Let's consider these issues in more detail.

Cordiant tires

ATTENTION! Found a completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also did not believe until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

Russian tires Cordiant have some advantages that most other tire models from other European manufacturers do not have. These advantages, first of all, include the ability to use tires in the harsh winter time, their safety margin is incredibly high, and the design features of the tires and the composition of the rubber compound allow these tires not to lose air pressure during sudden temperature changes. For the use of such tires in Russian conditions, this is a very important advantage, since most European modifications car tires have such an unpleasant property - tire pressure drops sharply with a sharp jump in air temperature.

It should also be noted that the Cordiant tires have excellent grip. A large number of winter tires are studded, which gives such excellent traction even on a completely icy road surface, even when driving on such a road at very high speeds. The braking properties of these tires are also well developed - the braking distance, even on slippery surfaces, is quite short.

Susceptibility to temperature extremes, adhesion and braking qualities- these properties can be considered the most important advantage of using Russian tires. This is not to say that these tires no longer have positive qualities, but all other properties are less well developed.

Nokian tires

Finnish Nokian tires are well known to both Russian drivers and everyone else around the world. Everyone knows perfectly well that these tires have excellent performance characteristics and are renowned for their safety and reliability of use. Let's take a closer look at all the benefits that drivers of cars equipped with these Finnish-made tires get.

To begin with, all Nokian car tires have excellent grip, even on Russian roads. I must say that a large number of factors contribute to this - these are the design features of these car tires, and the optimized tread pattern for each model of Finnish-made tires, and the composition of the rubber compound that is used for the production of Nokian tire models.

The optimized pattern of the projector has widened grooves in almost all models, and this allows water masses to be removed from the contact patch in a fairly short period of time. This property prevents the formation of a water wedge when driving on a wet canvas, which, in principle, indicates the actual absence of drift from a straight trajectory during high-speed movement.

It should also be noted that all Nokian tires have a very high degree of safety and reliability. Tires are made from a large number of synthetic materials, which can indicate the lack of environmental friendliness of the materials, but in reality this is not so - in the composition of the rubber compound, the presence of natural rubber predominates.

The best tire models Cordiant

The best car tire modifications in lineup Cordiant can be considered Comfort PS 400 and Winter Drive, according to the opinions and estimates of independent experts. The first model is intended for use in the summer season, but many Russian drivers often use it in winter as well, since the margin of safety and excellent grip allows this to be done.

The only drawback of this focus is the loss of tire pressure, after all, this is a summer model that is not really intended for use in the winter season. In general, both grip and excellent rolling resistance, and excellent properties of removing water masses from the contact patch are quite developed in this model and are in no way inferior to many leading models of European production.

As for the Winter Drive model, this winter modification also has an exceptionally high level of safety of use, and also creates excellent reliability when driving on poor road surfaces in winter. This tire model is equipped with studs, which allows you to significantly reduce the braking distance under any braking. It should also be noted the high acceleration properties, which are achieved thanks to the optimized tread pattern. It is because of him that the tires fit tightly to the roadway, allowing cars to quickly accelerate and brake sharply.

Best Nokian Tire Models

The most leading models of car tires by the Finnish manufacturer Nokian are the Hakka Green and Nordman SX modifications. The first model is a summer model, and it has a huge number of advantages. In fact, these tires have no shortcomings - each quality is highly developed, which allows drivers to feel comfortable and safe for drivers of any car on the road in any condition in various weather conditions.

It is especially worth highlighting the adhesion to the roadway, which allows you to keep a straight trajectory when driving on low-quality roads. Also in this model there is excellent noise isolation - the sound of wheel contact during high-speed movement is practically inaudible. Also, the properties of water repellency and rolling resistance are at a fairly high level.

As for the Nordman SX model, all the same qualities can be noted here. The only thing that should be noted here additionally is a better grip on the road surface of any quality. These tires have an excellent, optimized rubber compound with absorbent gels, natural rubber and silica. All this together gives these tires excellent performance in all conditions of use.

Final comparison of tires Kordiant and Nokian

If you compare best models Shin Kordiant and Nokian, it becomes clear - after all, tires Russian production are still not up to the level of performance that is in the production of Finnish tires. In all respects, Nokian tires are superior to Russian counterparts, except for one component - if we consider the conditions of use in Russia, then, of course, Cordiant tires win here, since they were created for use on Russian roads.

However, they have also found use on European roads. In all other respects, Kordiant tires are noticeably inferior to Finnish products - in terms of grip quality, braking properties, and speed characteristics and many other features.

Summary

As a result, we can say the following - even if we consider the model lines of both car tire manufacturers in full and try to compare them with each other, then such a comparison is inappropriate and meaningless here - car tires from the Finnish manufacturer Nokian win with a clear advantage. In the model range of the Finnish manufacturer, there are no such models that would have either low performance, or at least average.

This suggests that the Finnish manufacturer has really worked hard on the technologies for the production of its own products, which ultimately brought Nokian tires to a qualitatively new high level. The Russian manufacturer, on the other hand, should only work further in this direction. This is not to say that the Russian tires Kordiant are all so bad - not at all, many characteristics are very well developed. But still, this development is not at such a high-quality level as that of Finnish-made tires.

Recently, more and more motorists are paying attention to Nokian tires. There are many winter tires in the company's lineup, which attracts buyers. However, many of them are wondering whether it is better to purchase tires from another manufacturer? To answer this question, compare Winter tires Nokian with models from other brands.

Nokian or Goodyear

Top winter model Nokian has Hakapelita 8. Goodyear has Ultra Grip Ice arctic... On winter Russian tracks Hakkapeliitta tires 8 feel perfect as they were designed for this very environment.

On the surface of the rubber there are spikes in an increased number. Paired with a modified tread pattern, they contribute to a significant improvement in grip in difficult conditions.

They are resistant to the effect of aquaplaning, as they have a drainage system through the grooves of which moisture and snow are removed. They have improved wear resistance, ideal grip on ice and snow, and also provide a minimum braking distance.

However, in a rut, tires behave unstable, while being characterized by a high cost.

Goodyear is also tailored for harsh winters and off-road. Due to the change in the composition of the rubber, they have an increased resource. The advantages of this model:

  • directional stability will remain at high speed,
  • resistant to the effect of aquaplaning.

But when hitting a track, they can go into a skid.

If we compare Nokian and Goodyear, then it is impossible to give an exact answer. Nokian has better grip and passable properties, but the cost of these tires is higher. If financial opportunities allow, then it is best to buy Nokian, if not, then Goodyear, since they also have acceptable indicators.

Nokian or Cordiant

Cordiant has the best model - Snow cross... Its cost is about the same as that of Hakkapeliitta 8, so the comparison conditions are approximated. Cordiant improves vehicle dynamics and prevents slipping on snow and ice. Controllability in such conditions is excellent.

The directional stability of the tires is at a decent level. However, on asphalt pavement, the braking distance increases, and at high speeds, fuel consumption increases significantly. Among other things, additional noise is generated due to the tread pattern.

Hakapelita 8 has no such disadvantages. There is only one - a weak resistance to rutting. However, compared to the minuses, Cordiant is only a minor flaw. As you can understand, Nokian is a noticeable leader in comparison with Cordiant and is suitable for any operating conditions.

Nokian or Hankuk

When choosing winter tires, many motorists face a choice: Hankuk or Nokian? To answer this difficult question, consider the Hankook WinterI Pike RSW419 and Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8. Both models are studded and are presented in the same class - for passenger cars.

Nokian has the following advantages:

  • increased resource,
  • perfect grip and flotation in harsh conditions,
  • minimum braking distance.

However, its disadvantages - when you run into a track, there is a risk of skidding, and the cost of tires is quite high. The Hankook tires have slightly worse performance, but the grip is almost the same due to the increased number of studs.

The cost is much lower. That is why it is better to choose between these two models in accordance with financial capabilities.

As it turned out, Nokian is clearly in the lead compared to Cordiant. However, she is on a par with Hankook and Goodyear. Therefore, when choosing, it is best to take into account individual preferences and the allocated budget.

The end of 2015 was marked by key changes in the Russian tire market: it overtook the sales of winter tires and, as a result, significantly increased its market share. At the beginning of 2016, another event took place that seriously worsened the market position of Nokian - former employees of the company reported that the tires that were sent for tests were different from the serial ones. Which explained the constant victories of Nokian in various tests, especially those that were produced at their sites in Finland.

Against the background of this scandal, another story related to the Finnish company remained unnoticed. In June 2015, Nokian Tires PLC filed a lawsuit against JSC "Kordiant" with the requirement "to prohibit the defendant from any actions to use the industrial design protected by the patent of the Russian Federation", which is a tire Cordiant Snow Cross. From Nokian's perspective, the herringbone tread pattern used in the Cordiant Snow Cross is taken from the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7's tread pattern. design features, tires are no more alike than other tires with a similar pattern. Nokian's attention to the Cordiant Snow Cross tires is due not to a technical issue, but to a market one!

Cordiant Snow Cross

It should be noted that similar tread patterns have been used by almost all tire companies for over 15 years. At the same time, each company makes its own changes to the pattern, which allow the tire to perform better in difficult winter conditions. An example of a tire with a similar tread pattern is Pirelli ice Zero and Bridgestone Blizzak Spike-02.

For the layman, the tread patterns of the Cordiant Snow Cross and Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 tires are indeed very similar. At the same time, the tread pattern of Cordiant Snow Cross is patented in the Russian Federation, which means that it has at least 5 significant design differences from other tires with a similar type of tread pattern.

The confrontation between the key players in the tire market - Cordiant and Nokian - took place in the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg. The trial lasted more than a year: after Kordiant JSC won the first instance, Nokian's lawyers filed an appeal. The final decision was made by the court on May 23, 2016, when the court upheld the decision of the first instance unchanged, and Nokian's complaint was dismissed.

Nokian also tried to influence through Rospatent. The company filed an objection to the then-issued patent for Snow Cross tires. Having received the first decision of Rospatent to refuse to satisfy the objection to the grant of the patent of the Russian Federation No. 92061 for Snow Cross tires, Nokian applied to the Intellectual Property Rights Court to invalidate this decision, but the Court, by its decision dated 06.12.2016, dismissed Nokian's application.

Winter tires from 12 manufacturers were tested in two stages. This was done by the Krasnoyarsk CSM and the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the SB RAS.

At the first stage, the institute's laboratory assistants took samples of tires for an experiment and began to test them for quality. Checked for wear, frost resistance, elasticity and the permissible limit of sub-zero temperatures.

Each tire was sampled three times and tested in three ways. First, a piece of rubber was cut off, passed through a machine with a "coil" until it starts to rub - this is how the samples were tested for strength. Then another piece was dipped into a container with nitrogen and alcohol. The third sample was pressed from above with a press - this was how the level of frost resistance and elasticity was determined.

As experts explain, 12 samples are tires that are most popular in Russia and in Krasnoyarsk in particular. Samples were selected in 3 sizes:

  • 205 / 55R16- used on KIA vehicles Ceed, Ford focus, Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Huyndai Elantra, Mazda 5, Opel Zafira, Renault Laguna, Seat Toledo, Skoda SuperB, Subary Legacy, Toyota Auris, Toyota Avensis, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Corolla Verso, VW Passat, Renault Megane and etc.;
  • 225 / 65R17- used on Toyota vehicles Rav4, Vanguard, Honda cr-v, Suzuki Grand vitara, Honda CR-V, Dodge Caravan, Grand Caravan, Journey, Mazda CX-5, etc .;
  • in the light truck segment, the most popular size was taken 185 / 75R16 ° C- used on cars GAZ 3302 "Gazelle", "Sobol" and their modifications.

“Considering the fact that in the winter of 2017 in the Krasnoyarsk Territory the temperature was below minus 55 ° C, of particular interest is the study of brands that initially position themselves as“ tires for harsh winter conditions"these are: Nokian and Cordiant," the study says.

Also, attention was paid to the price of tires. The most informative about the quality is the indicators of frost resistance and temperature limit of fragility. The third indicator, abrasion, largely depends on the testing conditions - in the laboratory or in the fields.

The operating temperature of the tire is of great importance - the operating temperature of winter tires is below 0 ° C, the composition of the rubber compound is designed in such a way that the performance characteristics give the maximum performance at negative temperatures (including "mileage"). It is for this reason that the operation of winter tires in the summer leads to a sharp decrease in the resource of the tire, while the tire does not provide proper adhesion to the roadway (the braking distance increases), the principles of the FMC explain.

The results of the monitoring showed, the researchers believe, that all tires, by their characteristics, are suitable for operation in the harsh Krasnoyarsk conditions. At the same time, they have a slight difference in temperature indicators, and prices differ significantly.

Among the sizes 225/65 R17 (sample 5–8) the undisputed leader was sample 7 - Cordiant Snow Cross. He showed top scores in terms of temperature and at the same time it turned out to be democratic in price, and "therefore has the best ratio of price and quality." Samples No. 5, 6, 8 ( Yokohama iceguard IG55, Dunlop Grandtrek Ice 02, Toyo Observe G-3 Ice) have good temperature performance, but a higher price.

Among 185/75 R16 ° С (sample 9–12) the best temperature coefficients were shown by sample no. 11 Nokian nordman C at the highest price. Samples No. 9 (Kama-Euro-520), No. 12 (Codriant Business CW-2) also have good temperature characteristics at a lower price. Sample No. 10 of the Matador MPS 500 Sibir Ice Van brand, being in the same price segment, in terms of temperature indicators is slightly inferior to samples No. 9, 12.

The latter considered options in the size 205 / 55R16. Samples No. 1, 2, 3 have practically the same temperature indicators (minus 65-66 ° С), while sample No. 1 (Cordiant Snow Cross) has the most low price and, accordingly, it is most interesting in terms of value for money. Sample no. 4 (Hankook Winter I * pike RS w419) had a temperature limit of brittleness of minus 54 ° С, while at not the lowest cost, the sample showed the lowest result, the experts summed up.
