Characteristics of the Bridgestone Ecopia 850 summer tire

The Ecopia 850 is Bridgestone's first green tire range designed for sports crossovers.

The "green" line of Bridgestone Ecopia has an innovative rubber compound, with the addition of silicon and a group of polymer compounds. The manufacturer claims that the chemical additives reduce friction, heat, and wheel deformation during rolling. Combined with improved tread pattern new rubber provides confident braking on wet and dry surfaces.

The manufacturer indicates the following as the main advantages of its Ecopia 850 eco-tire:

Low rolling resistance for 3.9% fuel savings;
- comfortable and quiet driving;
- improved braking on wet surfaces;
- increased wear resistance.

The latest development among eco-tires, the Ecopia EP850, is designed to provide SUV and SUV drivers with a comfortable and quiet driving experience. This tire is aimed not only at the comfort of the driver, but also at the protection of the environment - the reduced rubber noise reduces the noise of the car on the road, and the reduced rolling resistance reduces both fuel consumption and harmful emissions from the engine.

The tread of the Bridgestone Ecopia 850 is completely road tread - the pattern is obviously designed for the best grip on the road. There is no need to talk about any outstanding off-road performance: the Ecopia 850 is aimed primarily at dynamic driving, and not at off-road driving, especially in tension.

Compared to the Ecopia 150 and 200, which are designed for two-wheel drive vehicles, the most striking feature is the asymmetry of the tread and the increased frequency of sipes. It can be assumed that the developers of rubber did not count on any separate parameter or technological development, but sought to use a synergistic effect that would allow the rubber to perform as well as possible on cars with precisely two drive axles, as well as an increased mass in relation to mono-drive cars.

Launching a new ecological tire Kazuhito Hasegawa, Head of Development Bridgestone tires for crossovers, stressed: “The work on the ECOPIA EP850 crossover tire was a real challenge for our team. Crossover owners usually expect their large and heavy vehicles to be able to drive on different types of road surfaces, but also excellent handling like u passenger car as well as safety and comfort. For us, this meant the need to combine sustainability and fuel efficiency with optimal wet and dry handling, abrasion resistance and, of course, with low level noise. We developed this tire from the ground up, carefully selecting materials, fine-tuning the finest nuances of structure and shape, creating an optimal tread design. Our hard work has resulted in an innovative product - a tire with reduced rolling resistance and extremely quiet operation. "

The new ecological tire features a wide range of sizes, which allows it to be used on both small urban crossovers and large family cars.

Bridgestone Ecopia 850 test on Daihatsu Terios SUV

The compact SUV Daihatsu Terios and its "twin" Toyota Cami (like the second generation - Daihatsu Terios II or Toyota Rush / Be-Go) have not been officially supplied to Russia, so the car is known only in fairly narrow circles.

The Daihatsu Terios is a lightweight permanent SUV with symmetrical all-wheel drive, similar to the Niva 4x4. It is only a stretch to call a sports car, however, it was all the more interesting to check the road properties of the new Bridgestone rubber for crossovers - after all, most often we are talking about heavy cars, and forget about "little ones".

Daihatsu Terios has a rather rare tire size - 205 70 / R15. However, this size is present in the Ecopia 850 size grid, so we were able to conduct our own curious test.

The first installation of Bridgestone Ecopia 850 tires on the test Daihatsu Terios was easy. The rubber is molded evenly, the thickness is the same, so it turned out to be easy to balance the freshly installed tires.

Usually, new rubber does not begin to fully show its properties immediately - for about the first three hundred kilometers, it needs to be run-in. Our rubber immediately got into a serious test - the weather threw a surprise in the form of a sharp cold snap. Recall time summer tires spring comes when average daily the air temperature exceeds + 7C (or even better, it is set in the region of + 10C). In this case, nighttime temperatures dropped significantly below + 7C - closer to zero degrees.

The Bridgestone Ecopia 850 tire turned out to be very sensitive to a decrease in air temperature - the rubber was oak, the handling and braking characteristics could be assessed only at a weak "C". The situation improved slightly with the completion of the run-in, but a noticeable sensitivity to low temperatures remained. It can be assumed that the sharp reaction of rubber to a decrease in air temperature is due to the presence of polymers in the composition, which manifest themselves positively only at higher air temperatures.

As a result, we can draw the first conclusion: paired with studded winter tires, the Bridgestone Ecopia 850 tire is not the most convenient option, since winter tires has to be used longer than we would like.

As expected, the Bridgestone Ecopia 850 shows its main advantages on the road in warm weather. First of all, the tires are very quiet - after the spike the contrast is especially noticeable. The road grip is very good: the car goes confidently and smoothly, perfectly playing out minor irregularities. A small bouncing car on this rubber has become much more "educated" - soft and smooth, more like urban sedate cars.

In rut conditions on the road, the behavior of the car also changed: control over the car became more confident, handling improved. In general, the response to rutting has significantly decreased (and for a light car with a narrower than standard track, this can be critical in some conditions, for example, in rain).

So the second conclusion: When the ambient temperature is up to performance standards, the Bridgestone Ecopia 850 rubber really improves the handling of the small SUV.

But it was not possible to achieve a decrease in fuel consumption for the test Daihatsu Terios: improved driving characteristics provoke high-speed driving. As a result, the average driving speed turned out to be 10-15 km / h higher than usual, so the fuel consumption even increased by about 200 ml / 100 km.

Third conclusion: the real influence of Bridgestone Ecopia 850 rubber on fuel consumption remains questionable - other test conditions are required for the purity of the experiment.

The next parameter in the Bridgestone Ecopia 850 test is braking performance. The green tire developers have achieved very good results here. It so happened that on this rubber I had to brake in an extreme situation on the road with rut and irregularities, sharply slowing down from 110 to 40 km / h. For high small car, which does not have not only some super-modern systems of assistance for braking and stabilization of directional stability, but also a primitive ABS, such a maneuver is very risky. However, braking was almost perfect on Bridgestone Ecopia 850 tires. Interestingly, after this experiment, no traces of sharp braking were found on the rubber.

Fourth conclusion: the Bridgestone Ecopia 850 tire brakes perfectly.

On wet roads, the Bridgestone Ecopia 850 also performs well with both handling and braking. The difference in behavior between dry and wet pavement is surprisingly negligible, although, of course, forgetting that a wet road requires increased vigilance must not be forgotten.

Fifth conclusion: warm summer rain, and even a downpour, a car on the Bridgestone Ecopia 850 is not a hindrance.

Off-road tires Bridgestone Ecopia 850, as expected, is nothing special. With these tires, you can drive on a dirt road, easily pass shallow sand and even overcome an area of mud and clay. However, there is no need to count on more. On dry or dense sand, rubber, thanks to the smooth, shallow tread, may even be good (the wheels will not bury). But you can ride on clay only until the first slip. As soon as the wheel skids, the mud clogs up the sipes and the tires turn into "slicks". So, the car overcame the 800-meter ascent along the wet clay ascent, but I did not dare to stop once again - the nature of the adhesion of the wheels to the road was too borderline. Having stopped, it was already possible not to get under way.

Conclusion six: although it is for off-road vehicles, the Bridgestone Ecopia 850 is a completely road rubber designed for a comfortable ride on the roads. It is better to conquer off-road terrain on other tires.

It's too early to talk about the durability of the Ecopia 850 over 3500 km.

SUMMARY

Bridgestone Ecopia 850 rubber is designed for dynamic, comfortable and economical driving of 4x4 vehicles in different variants of transmission of torque along the axles on paved roads.

In the Bridgestone Ecopia 850 tire we have a number of technical solutions:

Specially designed asymmetric tread pattern, which allows water to be removed from the rubber-road surface as quickly as possible and prevents skidding,
- polymer additives in the rubber compound, which improve braking performance and increase tire wear resistance,
- reduced noise level and rolling resistance.

The combination of these technical solutions allows to obtain a synergistic effect of innovations precisely on all-wheel drive versions of 4x4 vehicles.

A wide range of standard sizes of Bridgestone Ecopia 850 rubber covers almost the entire range of all-wheel drive crossovers, minivans and SUVs sold and imported to the Russian Federation.

The greatest effect of the use of Bridgestone Ecopia 850 rubber can be achieved during long tourist trips on public roads, especially when traveling in European countries.

The Ecopia brand originated from the words Ecology and Utopia - a kind of environmental perfectionism turned out. The previously unheard-of drive for economy is driven by modern European regulations: emissions can be reduced mainly by reducing fuel consumption. I am sure that few of the readers seriously asked about the search for economical tires - the first place is usually the ratio of grip properties and price. But the characteristics that Japanese tire makers promise are very curious: the lightweight Ecopia line (EP150, EP200 and EP850), which appeared this year, allows to reduce fuel consumption compared to B250 tires by 7.1%, 12.3% and 3.9%, respectively. ! It is difficult to believe in such numbers, but if they close to the truth, this is a major breakthrough in the tire industry.

A / T 697 - the most off-road new tires in the range

On an off-road training ground Land rover Experience I was able to carry out a mini-test of another range of tires specifically designed for SUVs: Dueler H / P Sport, Ecopia EP850 and Dueler A / T 697. From now on, all cars of the training center will be equipped with these tires. The first in line - Ecopia EP850, which record comfortable and quiet driving, good braking on wet surfaces and traditional Bridgestone high sidewall strength. With a 15.7% reduction in rolling resistance, this tire promises a 3.9% reduction in fuel consumption compared to the Dueler H / L 683. The linear range includes as many as 23 sizes (15-19 inches). Of course, all the subtleties of the novelty are difficult to immediately feel, but some information can be obtained. For example, driving up a mountain with a 45-degree incline or driving with a 30-degree incline. First, the Discovery adheres perfectly to the concrete surface without showing signs of slipping. And secondly, with a steep side slope, there is practically no meander of the tire sidewall - everything is withinpermissible. Another model, the Dueler H / P Sport, which mimics the Potenza RE050 pattern, is aimed at premium SUVs such as Range rover... For these purposes, a high-speed section has been prepared at the landfill, laid along an unpaved ring track. Already more interesting. But it is even harder to "understand" the tires here. Oddly enough, on pure asphalt tires Range can be quite recklessly controlled, only occasionally swimming out of the corner with the front axle - and everything is extremely predictable. The third novelty is the Dueler A / T 697, which is currently the most off-road tire in the SUV range. MT-shnye mud tires so far they have not been supplied to us, which is very strange - where, if not in Russia, will there be at least a close demand for them? But the 697 Dueler also behaves well on the intersection. And judging by the performance distribution diagram shown at the presentation, the tires have become more durable and passable (compared to the 694 model), although there are fewer sipes on the shoulder block forreducing the noise level. Overall, Bridgestone is on the right track. It is especially pleasing that the company constantly conducts tests for strength and wear resistance, as a result of which Japanese tires are perfectly adapted to Russian realities. And for our country, these features are still more important than fuel efficiency.

June 4 and 5 Bridgestone took a test drive summer tires on the tracks of the international off-road training school Land Rover Experience. Reporters from leading automotive publications had a unique opportunity to test Ecopia and Dueler summer tires, as well as test their key features in real off-road conditions.

The test drive of Bridgestone summer tires was held in partnership with the Land Rover Experience. In early 2014, Bridgestone and the Land Rover Experience International Off-Road Training School in Russia signed a cooperation agreement. All Land Rover Experience training vehicles are now fitted with Bridgestone tires for the ultimate driving pleasure on the most challenging off-road trails.

During the test drive, participants were able to test three Bridgestone summer SUV and crossover tires: Ecopia EP850, Dueler A / T 697 and Dueler H / P Sport... Each model was tested on a separate track, demonstrating key advantages and high cross-country performance.

The main trail with concrete slopes, ascents, side slopes and ditches allowed to experience the possibilities Ecopia EP850... Participants of the test drive were able to get to know in practice the main advantages of the novelty in 2014: comfortable and quiet driving, optimal handling on various surfaces. Ecopia-specific, highly directional blocks provide effective braking (the EP850 brakes 4.1% shorter than conventional tires) and handling on dry and wet road and the combination of short and long grooves reduces the noise level. The increased tread block rigidity, especially in the longitudinal direction, and the innovative rubber compound provide the Ecopia EP850 with low rolling resistance, which in turn provides 3.9% fuel savings as well as reduced CO 2 emissions.

For bus Dueler H / P Sport, specially designed for premium SUVs, the “Dynamic” track was chosen - an unprofiled unpaved track with a length of 1,100 meters with turns of varying difficulty. The asymmetrical tread pattern and high silicon content provide reliable wet grip, high-speed stability and unrivaled comfort. Dueler H / P Sport provides precise vehicle handling and stable trajectory when cornering.

In turn, the bus Dueler A / T 697 tested on the Lesnaya track - a difficult-to-pass section of a forest track with descents and ascents. The unique characteristics of the Dueler A / T 697 allow the driver to drive confidently in off-road conditions. Stiffer blocks and reinforced sidewalls distribute the load evenly across the contact patch and thereby increase the tire's grip and mileage. The redesigned tread pattern in the complex reduces noise, vibrations, providing a comfortable and quiet car driving.

“We are proud of the strategic partnership with the Land Rover Experience, an international off-road learning school. By organizing joint test drives, we provide an opportunity for everyone to learn more about safe driving techniques and the key role of tires in this matter, providing the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge. For us, as for the Land Rover Experience, safety is always our top priority, ”comments Mr. Kuroki Minoru, General Director of Bridgestone CIS LLC.

Bridgestone summer tires were tested on Land vehicles Rover Defender and Land Rover Discovery, Land Rover Range Rover.

Bridgestone Ecopia EP850 tire reviews

Yandex Market

Great model

Advantages: 1. Relatively quiet tires 2. Perfectly holds on a wet road, in heavy rain, even if you find yourself in a rut 3. The sides are strong - I park near the house to the curbs. No hernias, no other problems 4. Minimum wear 5. The price is reasonable
Disadvantages: not noticed
A comment: We are driving this rubber for the third season, we have already covered more than 50 thousand km. We were in the Crimea with my family - they drove along the rocky mountain roads near Bakhchisarai to the Volga off-road. The rubber is strong - there were no breakdowns. We are satisfied and recommend to everyone.

Great model

Experience of use: more than a year

Advantages: 1) Stable on everything. 2) There is even some cross-country ability (to my surprise). Perhaps while the new one. 3) Brakes well. 4) No aquaplaning detected. 5) Quiet. 6) No wear identified. 7) There were no penetrations. 8) Light balancing. 9) Soft.
Disadvantages: 1) Pro-in Thailand. 2) Nondescript appearance.
A comment: Skated 1 season at Pradik in Moscow. After winter on Bridgestone Blizzak The DM-V2 did not feel any noise reduction. Either the Velcro was so quiet, or these were so noisy. Everything else is just pluses. You can take it!)

Eduardovich Arshak, Ecopia is a little noisier than Blizzak DM-V2, I myself ride such, otherwise there are some pluses, low wear and tear!

Good model

Experience of use: less than a month

Advantages: A good road tire, moderately soft compared to the regular dueler. The noise for me is so within the normal range, given that there is no Shumka from the manufacturer in the car.
Disadvantages: Lots of stones get stuck in the tread. Price.
A comment: The price last year was 1000-1500 rubles. less is the main disappointment. the dollar seems to have fallen and the price has risen. Those. was mid-budget, and now in a different price range.

Terrible model Usage experience: over a year

Advantages: The size
Disadvantages: Everything
A comment: Wrote a review here about Ecopia 850, but it was not published. By the way, a lot of mine real reviews do not publish, mostly enthusiastic. Renault duster car. Traveled in the summer on a regular Amtel. I wanted to buy something on the road so that I could drive fast on the highway, I don't climb into the mud. I got these tires after reading reviews, and the price was right. But when I drove along the highway, I did not understand at first. Firstly, the car did not accelerate on them, as if it was sticking to the asphalt. Further, the noise, or rather the howl was and is always on any surface, and where the Amtel goes quietly, these howls are low. Consumption, on the contrary, increased by 1.5 liters. The joints may be quieter, but I did not understand it. One only advantage, unlike Amtel, is the lack of aquaplaning. And for me in the summer it is important, because it rains are not uncommon. My advice is, don't trust the reviews. Take the eminent brands of rubber Continental Continental contact. Having traveled on it for two summers, the tire began to make noise even more, worn out almost completely, in puddles and in a downpour, driving on the highway for more than 70 is scary, throws it out of the way. The result was a rupture of the lateral surface at a speed of 130 with a loaded duster of 250 kg, this is a consequence of lapping to the curb near the house. When the tire was flat on the rim, the sidewall felt like a rag. Now I'm looking at other brands for the summer with this size. I don’t know what to take, all the reviews are fake, if there are real ones, then the moderators may have overlooked them. Even here I am writing a review for the second time about this rubber, they can delete it again.

Zhemaletdinov Rifat, In her native Bridgestone (summer version), Nissan Qashqai, she left for 6 seasons. The run over the summer has been small, there have been more, incl. over long distances.

Olga Trifonova, Do you have the same 850th? We drive at different speeds. you probably never went more than 140, and I never go less than 140.

I bought 2 tires Tigar Summer Suv 215/70, quieter than this one, I have not tested rubber yet. And I have already driven on different surfaces, in the rain on the highway 150-170, the road holds perfectly. I drove through a deep puddle at a speed of about 100, even the steering wheel did not twitch. In frost -5 it is also ideal, the joints are not audible at all. Now I hear the howl of a defective quife at the checkpoint, starting at higher speeds, although I previously heard only from 30 km per hour, now from 60-70. Who knew that there is such rubber, then Bridgestone Ecopia would not buy.

Great model

Experience of use: more than a year

Advantages: price stability excellent road holding
Disadvantages: not very pretty
A comment: I have been driving these bagels for the second year - the road holds well, I entered the water at a speed - it drains the water normally, through the mud on all-wheel drive relatively normal, because it is intended for asphalt. For two years, the wear is very small. Generally satisfied. Advantages: Stability both on asphalt and on a primer (clay / sand), "does not float" in a rut, swallows uneven asphalt, ideally holds the road in heavy rain
Disadvantages: noisy on dry asphalt, fine gravel gets stuck in the tread
A comment: Today we were pleased with the tires in disgusting weather - a heavy downpour, with wind and zero visibility, the track is flooded with water so that the water from the oncoming stream does not just pour over the car, but also quietly flies far beyond the right side. At the same time, the car "rushes like a tank" and calmly withstands the onslaught of nature. When "flying" at 90 km / h on wet asphalt with a track - no aquaplaning and other "joys". It rushes through the clay like a stubborn donkey :) But fine gravel gets stuck in the tread, and then knocks on the bottom. To my ear, they are noisy (but this is a purely subjective perception) Size 225/65 / R17

Great model

Experience of use: several months

Advantages: price relative to leading brands, good stability on wet roads, in rain perfect rubber... Balances well.
Disadvantages: a bit noisy, I compare to Nexen
