Any car enthusiast, even with little driving experience, is well aware of the importance of good lighting on the road. Especially in cases of poor visibility, which include heavy rain, dense fog and other natural phenomena. At the same time, many drivers are interested in the question of which H7 low beam lamps are the best. Most car manufacturers equip their products with this type of headlight lamps. But not every vehicle owner knows what they are.

Description

Some time ago, H4 lamps, which have two filaments, were still very popular among many car enthusiasts, which makes it possible to turn on high or low beam lighting. Now they have been replaced by a good alternative - H7. It already has one filament, and the lamp is installed in a four-headlight head optics with a separated system of reflectors for high and low beam lighting. Nevertheless, such elements are installed mainly in low-beam headlights. And for long-range lighting optics, H1 lamps are still used, which are already outdated, but have a low cost.

A characteristic difference between these products is the presence of a flange. In this case, the distance between it and the spiral is fixed and constant. Thanks to this, the filament is in focus at all times. What are the best H7 low beam lamps for Kalina or any other domestic or foreign car? Let's figure it out.

Low beam sources

Modern technologies in the automotive industry allow manufacturers to produce a variety of products for head optics. At the same time, each company relies on its own developments and experience. For this reason, all lamps with an H7 base have different parameters regarding power and lighting spectrum, which can range from cold to warm tones.

As for power, according to the standard for H7 lamps it is 55 W. However, there are models with higher values on the market. It is only recommended for SUV owners to purchase them when driving outside the city. Usually in megacities the roads are well lit. Using strong lamps on a vehicle that is used primarily for driving on city streets can cause overload. And as a result, the on-board electrical system will fail.

Many drivers, especially beginners, constantly worry about which H7 low beam lamps are the best. Today there is plenty to choose from, since the modern market is filled with different types of headlights:

  • halogen;
  • xenon;
  • LED

At the same time, lamps of some brands are distinguished by increased luminous flux, manufacturers of others assure consumers that their lamps last three times longer than their competitors, and still others can generally decorate head optics well with their appearance alone. It is worth considering each type in more detail.

Standard

As a rule, high-strength glass or quartz material is used to make the lamp bulb. In its inner part there is a filament and gas with the inclusion of halogen additives. Currently, such lamps are deservedly popular due to their wide distribution. The use of such products does not require any additional equipment. They create the correct lighting and, most importantly, high-quality lighting.

There are also a number of other advantages that allow you to immediately answer the question of which H7 low beam lamps are the best for a Priora or other car:

  • compact dimensions;
  • long service life;
  • for the light quartz shell they have high strength and heat resistance;
  • high luminous efficiency;
  • wide scope of application.

However, there is a significant drawback, which is the strong heating of the lamps during operation and poor tolerance to voltage changes. When replacing lamps, you should absolutely not touch the glass bulb with your hands. Fortunately, there are not many disadvantages, and for this reason, today more than a million cars are driven with such low beam lamps.

Xenon solutions

By appearance you can notice the almost complete similarity of gas-discharge lamps with their halogen counterparts. However, both light sources use different technology. In this case, a characteristic feature is the complete absence of an incandescent filament, since a different principle is used.

What are the best H7 low beam lamps for the Duster? Perhaps this is exactly the case, since they have a special operating principle. The luminous flux is created due to the glow of the inert gas xenon, hence the name of the lamps themselves. It is under pressure in a glass flask. There is also a small metal plate located here, which heats the inert medium. Due to the absence of an incandescent filament, such lamps are vibration-free, which is confirmed by many tests. Compared to the classic halogen counterpart, the glow from xenon is three times brighter. This becomes especially important when driving a car in the evening and at high speed.

Among other advantages, it is worth highlighting the following:

  • low power consumption - about 35 W;
  • service life according to approximate estimates is 2800-4000 hours;
  • lighting brightness - 3000 lumens;
  • the luminous flux is as close as possible to sunlight.

Due to the characteristics of xenon lighting, the question of which H7 low-beam lamps are the best for Kalina should not arise at all. The driver clearly sees almost all objects on the road and side of the road (including road signs) at a great distance. When driving a car in conditions of dense fog or heavy rainfall, the so-called “light wall” is not created. The rays are able to penetrate such an obstacle, thanks to which it is the road that is visible, and not drops of rain or fog.

Why, in this case, having such irrefutable advantages, xenon lamps have not yet completely replaced their halogen counterparts from the market. It's all about the shortcomings. For such lamps to work, they need an additional ignition unit. To start them, a voltage of 25 kV is required, and during operation they consume less - 80 V. Another no less serious disadvantage is the high price. In addition, it is recommended to install such lamps only on those car models that are equipped with headlight range control, otherwise you cannot avoid dazzling oncoming drivers.

LED alternative

When deciding which H7 low beam lamps are the best for a Nexia, Ford or any other car, many experts unanimously agree that the future lies with LEDs. Moreover, this applies not only to the automotive industry, but also to most other industries where there is a need for high-quality lighting.

Such lamps are the most economical among all other analogues. Compared to incandescent elements, energy consumption is 10 times lower. As for the service life, there is an opinion that LEDs can work up to 100 thousand hours. They also withstand vibrations and shocks, and the luminous flux meets many requirements. Due to the absence of mercury, such lamps are completely harmless, so they can be safely disposed of. There is only one important detail here - their use requires special optics. Due to their characteristics, LEDs cannot shine at a point, which imposes certain difficulties, since conventional optics do not allow you to adjust the luminous flux.

What are the best H7 low beam bulbs in the rain? The choice fell on LEDs, but it is worth knowing about a number of disadvantages. The most important of them is the very high cost, due to which this market segment is not so widespread. Other no less important point- the stated period is completely refuted by practice. Instead of 11 years, the manufacturer itself guarantees good performance for 3-5 years. This is due to one phenomenon called LED degradation. That is, the crystals gradually die off - first they lose their brightness, and then they become completely silent. Another drawback is the unpleasant spectrum. As experts in the field of psychology note, approximately 80% of respondents have a negative opinion regarding the use of such lamps at home.

Difficult choice

A wide variety of lamps for low beam lighting sometimes confuses when choosing a worthy product. However, it is worth highlighting important criteria for yourself and adhering to them as strictly as possible:

  • luminous flux brightness;
  • how comfortable the lighting is for the eyes;
  • life time;
  • Energy consumption;
  • price.

At the same time, when deciding which H7 low beam lamps are the best, you should not be guided only by cost and purchase models that do not inspire confidence due to their low price. The personal safety of the driver and his passengers depends on the correct choice. From the total number of manufacturers, several companies can be identified that offer products of decent quality:

  • Osram;
  • Philips;
  • Bosch;
  • Narva.

When giving preference to one brand or another, it is worth asking what its reputation is. Although there are pleasant exceptions, when products from a little-known company are not inferior in quality to world leaders.

Osram

This is a leading manufacturer of lighting equipment with a worldwide reputation, which was founded just over a hundred years ago - in 1906 in Munich (Germany). Osram products are widely distributed among most car manufacturers, including the popular Renault concern. The high reputation of the company allows us to once and for all close the question of which H7 low beam lamps are the best for Ford Focus 2. The lamps produced have both standard power and there are models with increased light output. By purchasing light sources for low-beam headlights with the Osram marking, you can be confident in their durable and high-quality operation.

Philips

An equally world-famous company specializes in the production of a wide variety of products, including halogen and gas-discharge lamps. Few people know, but this particular manufacturer is involved in the production energy saving lamps, which are currently quite popular.

In the automotive industry, Philips is the main supplier of lighting sources and optics to the assembly lines of many factories. In addition, the company supplies its products to secondary market, significantly expanding its range with halogen, xenon and LED lamps.

Bosch

Another company from Germany, which, in addition to lighting equipment, produces other components necessary for the car. Not sure which H7 low beam bulbs are the best? Regarding this brand, two words in German are enough - Bosch ist Bosch. What "Bosch" means in Russian is "Bosch".

Narva

Among the candidates under consideration, this is the youngest, but this does not mean at all that the company produces low-quality products. The manufacturer began mass production of halogen light sources in 1969. Since then, the Narva brand has become quite popular and recognizable all over the world, largely due to the optimal price-quality ratio. True German quality - this is exactly the phrase that is fashionable to hear from the mouths of many car enthusiasts, both among professionals and beginners.

Night time is the most dangerous time for a motorist. Most accidents occur at night, therefore, special attention should be paid to the choice of headlight lamps.

Rating of the best lighting devices

For the convenience of car enthusiasts, a rating of H7 halogen lamps for cars has been compiled. It includes popular samples of lighting devices, often purchased by car enthusiasts.

The basis for including a particular model in the list was its compliance with the following criteria:

  • Compliance of the distribution of luminous flux installed in a standard headlight lamp with the state standard.
  • Distribution of luminous flux (illumination of the roadside, oncoming lane, road).
  • Actual electricity consumption.
  • Power of light radiation.

1. OSRAM NIGHT BREAKER UNLIMITED.

The unique properties of the light bulb are that it creates a light beam whose length is 40 meters longer than that of conventional car lamps, and the emission spectrum is 20% whiter. All these parameters allow this model in the H7 base to illuminate a larger space with white light, which allows the driver to avoid a possible accident at night.

The actual luminous flux intensity is 1500 Lm. The results of the study showed that the tested light device illuminates the right side of the road better than any other model from the proposed list. All this allows us to consider this light bulb the best and confidently recommend it for purchase. Average price 1,200 rub.

2. BOSCH Plus 90.

In 2009, Bosch released H7 halogen car lamps with increased luminous efficiency for more efficient road illumination at night. The work creates longer and wider cones of light, allowing you to see obstacles on the road in advance and avoid a collision.

The roadside illumination indicator for this light bulb is several times higher than the operating requirements. The purchase will cost 1,370 rubles.

3. PHILIPS Vision Plus +60%. The combination of 60% increased luminous flux and affordable price(600 rub.), makes this model very good option for purchase.

Its actual luminous flux is 1450 Lm, and the illumination of the roadside is within the standard. All this, as well as the manufacturer’s brand, allows us to recommend the lamp for use.

4. PHILIPS Vision +30%. In terms of luminous flux intensity, it exceeds standard lighting devices by 30%.

The actual flux intensity of this light device is 1390 Lm, and the illumination of the roadside exceeds the standard, which is a good indicator.

In terms of price (350 rubles) and quality, the light bulb is a good option, however, due to the design features, it tends to blind the driver of the car in front.

5. PHILIPS X-treme Vision +100%. According to the manufacturer, lamps of this type have a luminous flux intensity that is 100% greater than standard lighting devices and a beam of light extended by 35 meters.

The actual radiation intensity of the light bulb is only 1400 lm. With roadside lighting, the situation is a little better, although it does not reach the PHILIPS Vision Plus +60% indicators, but it still fits into the standard.

After all the tests, we can say with confidence that the lamp did not live up to the declared characteristics and is inferior in them to its “less” powerful brother. The price of the considered model is 1000 rubles.

6. HELLA H7 +90%. A good budget option from a subsidiary of Philips.

HELLA H7 devices +90%, the best in their price range (690 RUR). They provide excellent light intensity (1400 lm) and provide good illumination of the right side of the road at a low price.

7. OSRAM SUPER +30%. The manufacturer does not set any inflated characteristics, except for the stated 30% more light output.

The luminous flux intensity as a result of the test was 1350 Lm, which is a satisfactory result, but at the same time, the degree of illumination of the roadside is significantly lower than that of other models.

The glare zone of such a lamp is many times greater than the norm, as a result of which it will blind drivers driving towards and ahead through the rear-view mirrors. Price 300 rubles.

8. KOITO Whitebeam III. Light bulb with increased light output, due to the increased temperature of the filament. To prevent its burnout, the pressure in the flask is doubled compared to standard devices.

How to choose a lamp for a car with an H7 socket?

Choosing headlight bulbs can be a challenge for inexperienced car enthusiasts, especially considering the wide range of lighting products on the market. Therefore, below we will look at the advantages and disadvantages various types lamps, and we’ll tell you what to look for when purchasing.

Halogen lamps

Halogen lamps are by far the most popular, and all because they are simple and economical, plus they have a wide range.

Most often, the lifespan of such a lighting device is about 1000 hours, and the cost of replacing the light bulb is very small (up to 500 rubles). Despite this, for most large automobile companies, halogens fade into the background. What is the reason? And the reason is simple - the efficiency is too low (about 10%) and the life period is relatively short.

Xenon lamps

Xenon is a more efficient solution, since its efficiency is more than 90%, which means much less electricity is consumed and heating is minimal.

The design difference from “halogen” is the mandatory presence of a special ignition unit. It is necessary to create and regulate high voltage, without which xenon will not work. This is why xenon lamps take a few seconds to reach maximum brightness.

LED bulbs

Light-emitting diode (LED) lighting devices have appeared relatively recently. Their main advantages are considered to be low power, huge resource and reliability.

Despite this, there are a number of disadvantages that should be taken into account. Despite the low power of LEDs, they generate quite a lot of heat. That is why LED headlights need cooling sources such as radiators. Due to such a complex design, their price is very high.

What to look for when choosing lamps with H7 socket?

First of all, you should listen to the recommendations of the manufacturer of your car. The repair and operation manual will probably contain several recommendations that will relate to the specifics of choosing lighting devices for headlights. In addition, you can adhere to the following recommendations.

  • Life time. This is one of the most important parameters on which the frequency of replacing the headlight bulb depends. Most halogen lamps will not last you more than a year, but there are models with an extended service life that last 4 years without any problems. LEDs are the most durable in this regard, and can work for up to 10 years without interruption.
  • Power. The power of the lighting device should not exceed 60/55 W. Otherwise, you not only risk melting all the wiring, but you will also blind oncoming drivers.
  • Colorful temperature. H7 lamps with a color temperature of 3000-4300K shine with a yellowish tint. This light is perfect for bad weather conditions (rain, fog). LED and xenon lamps have a temperature of 4300K-6000K with a white tint. This light is pleasant to the eyes and does not strain them during long trips.

Which driver driving at night has not experienced glare from an oncoming vehicle or turned the interior rearview mirror away from the headlights of the car driving behind? The oncoming driver doesn't seem to shift high beam on the neighbor, but, flashing your headlights at him, you understand that he is driving on the neighbor. This result is partly due to “collective farm xenon”, partly due to low-quality or inappropriate low-beam lamps. Well, which ones are high-quality and appropriate? Let's check it in our test.

For the test, we took ten standard halogen lamps model H7 12V 55W and two types of the same lamps, but with improved characteristics.

The tests were carried out in the Russian division of the MAHA company using a device for measuring the light parameters of headlights of motor vehicles, model MLT 300, made in Germany. The manufacturer recommends using this stand for use in car service centers and car assembly plants. The measurements were carried out in accordance with the requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union “On the safety of wheeled vehicles” (TR CU 018/2011) regarding the requirements for lighting and light signaling devices.

According to the method prescribed in technical regulations, the position of the control point for measuring light intensity in the “low beam” mode in the direction of the graph line is located in the same vertical plane with the optical axis of the device for checking and adjusting headlights, and directed at an angle of 52 degrees below the horizontal part of the cut-off boundary of the low beam light beam. Strength light at a given point should not be less than 1600 cd.

If we translate all the basic requirements for the light of halogen lamps into ordinary language, then the lamp is only required to provide a certain luminous intensity, not dazzle oncoming drivers, illuminate the roadside well, and not dazzle the vehicle in front through the interior rearview mirror.

Test method

Tests were carried out on the left headlight of a commercially produced car Lada Vesta. The car was placed on a special flat surface without slopes, first the existing lamp was checked and minor adjustments were made according to the recommendations issued by the device.

Since the headlight was positioned at the desired point, it was already next step H7 12V 55W low-beam car lamps were replaced and readings from the stand screen and light spots were recorded, which can be seen on a special mirror installed in the device for these purposes. Two lamps of each type were installed to assess the stability of the indicators. The headlight was not adjusted for each new lamp inserted.

The set includes two identical lamps, blue lamp bulbs. As with standard lamps, the base contains all the necessary information.

Test results

For a better understanding of the results obtained, we will analyze in detail one result of the lamp, the readings from which we set for a sample to clarify the readings obtained from the device.

Top line with a bend in the middle- This is the cut-off line, above which light should not spread.

Red dot- the brightest point, which must coincide with the inflection point of the cut-off line for asymmetrical low beam.

Yaw Angle (angle of rotation)— the angle begins at the inflection point and lies between the left inclined section of the cut-off line and the horizontal line of symmetrical light distribution of the low beam.

RollAngle (rotation angle)— the angle on the right between the light distribution boundary from the turning point and the horizontal.

PA — vertical deviation of the brightest point from the inflection point, measured in percentage for a base distance of 10 meters.

IP — horizontal deviation of the brightest point from the inflection point, measured as a percentage for a base distance of 10 meters.

I — luminous intensity in kilocandelas.

Red arrows show where the inflection point needs to be shifted - this should be eliminated by adjusting the headlight.

Left slanted line is responsible for illuminating the side of the road, straight lines on the right - for directing the light beam towards the oncoming flow.

The cut-off line should not go beyond the specified lines, since if the horizontal line is exceeded, drivers of oncoming cars will be dazzled, and if the inclined line is exceeded, drivers of passing vehicles in front will be dazzled through the rear-view mirror. And if the cut-off line is below the lines, the lighting range will suffer.

ClearLight

When installed in a headlight, lamps from this manufacturer do not provide an inflection point at all; the device could not even determine where this point could theoretically be located. Even with a weak luminous flux with a maximum value of 4 cd, these lamps will dazzle oncoming drivers. No amount of headlight adjustment will save the situation, so they cannot be installed in headlights.

General Electric

These lamps have no deviations along the cut-off line. Luminous power averaged 16.4 cd. The sameness of the cut-off boundaries indicates the stability of the parameters of the products. When installing, it is necessary to make a slight adjustment of the headlight, since the inflection point is shifted slightly to the left.

KRAFT

Both lamps have an aperture ratio of 16.3-16.5 cd, however, when installing the first lamp, it turned out that its cut-off line was slightly higher than normal - it was impossible to drive without adjustment.

When installing the second lamp, it turned out that its cut-off line was greatly lowered - this indicates instability of production (one shines higher, the other much lower). Lowering the cut-off limit will result in a decrease in visibility distance.

Osram

The average luminous intensity of the control samples was 18.5 cd. The inflection points almost coincide, but they are slightly shifted to the right, which can be easily corrected by adjusting the headlight. Otherwise there are no comments.

Nord YADA

One of the lamps does not require adjustment after installation, but the second has a cut-off limit slightly higher than the standard - this indicates some instability in the production of lamps. The average aperture value was 19.7 kcd - one of the highest values among budget lamps.

"Dialuch"

The limit of light and shadow is too high towards the side of the road for both lamps - without adjustment, drivers of vehicles in front will be blinded. However, even after the adjustment, the cut-off line for the oncoming lane will drop below normal, which will lead to poor visibility. However, the average aperture ratio is not bad - 19.9 cd. This best result in terms of luminosity among conventional lamps.

"Innovator"

The first installed lamp failed the cut-off parameters. Adjustment will not help: the lane towards oncoming traffic goes up (!) by 1.8 degrees, and it should be directed down at least 0.5 degrees. Also, the angle towards the side of the road is exceeded - the vehicle in front will be dazzled. Under no circumstances should such a lamp be used.

The second lamp fits into the requirements for the chiaroscuro limit, but the huge difference in luminosity is frightening: 21.8 and 14.9 kcd - the luminosity of the two lamps differs by one and a half times! Such instability in product quality should be alarming.

StartVOLT

StartVOLT lamps have a blurred inflection point - when installed in a headlight, you will need to make adjustments to shift the inflection point to the left. The aperture is 16.5-16.6 cd, which looks average compared to other tested lamps.

Narva Range Power Blue

One of the two lamps in the kit will not require headlight adjustment; the second will require a small adjustment to move the inflection point to the left. The average aperture result is 18.3 cd. The only thing you can overpay for when buying this kit is for the pleasant white light that the headlight begins to shine with after installing these lamps.

Philips

The packaging of standard Philips brand bulbs states that the bulbs have +30% visibility. Taking into account that the standard lamp has an illumination rating of 16 cd, and the Philips lamp has 18.6 cd, then, indeed, the result is an improved luminous flux, although not by 30%, but by about 16% compared to the standard lamp. Also, almost all brands have the same luminous intensity, they just don't advertise it. After installing the lamp, you will need to make some minor adjustments, since the inflection point is shifted to the right.

What's the result?

The main conclusion that we have made and would like to convey to our readers is that when replacing a lamp, it is necessary to adjust the headlights, since the design features do not allow each to work as efficiently as possible.

Based on the results, all test participants were divided into two main groups. The first is lamps from little-known companies, which we recommend avoiding, since their characteristics and quality raise serious concerns. These include lamps from the Innovator, KRAFT and ClearLight brands.

The second group is lamps that do not cause any particular complaints in terms of their parameters, however, they will require mandatory adjustments for maximum efficiency. These are both lamps from Philips, StartVOLT, Dialuch, Osram and General Electric. In addition, it is worth noting that you should be careful when treating loud signs of improved characteristics: the percentage of “improvements” of both Philips lamps turned out to be half as much as declared.

Nord brand lamps would most likely be ahead due to best price, if both showed equally good results. And so, in terms of price, quality and characteristics, Narva Standart, the winner of our test, comes out ahead. Narva Range Power Blue tuning lamps are also good if you are willing to pay five times more for aesthetics. And the Philips Vision Plus lamp, despite the best indicator of luminous intensity, scored “penalty” points for the need for mandatory adjustments, inflated parameters and the highest price.
