There are a lot of reasons why it may be necessary to remove a high instrument panel on a VAZ 2109 car - this is the replacement of the panel itself, disassembly of the interior heating system, various body repair including work related to painting a car. Before we can remove the panel without any problems, it is necessary to completely dismantle various attachments, devices, decorative trims, etc.

To complete the work, prepare a standard set of tools and you can start:

  • First of all, it is necessary to remove the steering wheel itself, since it will interfere with us very much. The process of removing it, see the corresponding article - How to remove wheel.
  • Next, we pull out the suction of the carburetor (in the case of injection engine it will not be) and remove the plastic handle from the drive rod.
  • Remove the console trim by unscrewing its two screws on the sides.

  • Remove the cigarette lighter and ashtray.

  • Remove the fan motor speed control knob.
  • Next, prying with a screwdriver, remove the decorative levers for driving the interior heater.

  • Disconnect the block with the supply wires from the mode switch of the stove fan, and also remove from the contacts the two supply wires of the backlight lamp of the heating control panel.

  • We continue to remove the decorative control knobs - the headlight hydro-corrector and the instrument backlight power control knob on the panel.

  • Now we need to remove the hydrocorrector and the dimmer, for this we unscrew the nuts of their fastening with a suitable socket head. Then push them inside the panel, then we will pull them out.

  • On the left and right sides, remove the air deflectors for heating the side windows and immediately use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew one screw each securing the top panel lining.

  • Remove the outdoor light switch on the dashboard by gently prying it with a flat screwdriver and pulling it out as far as the wires allow. Disconnect the block with the supply wires from the switch and set it aside, and push the block back into the panel.

  • Remove the radio, if you have one, and then remove the standard socket for radio equipment, again if you have one.
  • Remove the center screw that secures the panel overlay.

  • Now we need to remove the instrument panel trim. Before removing it, you need to snap off the latches located under the dashboard, using two flat screwdrivers, which are inserted along the edges and pressing them slightly, moving upwards, raise the panel. Then we completely remove it.

  • Now that the cover has been removed, you can easily disconnect the power wires from the cigarette lighter and its backlight.
  • Disconnect the wires from the connector for turning on the alarm and the backlight.

  • Next, remove the decorative trim for the front speaker and glass heating switches and rear fog lamps. If a speaker is installed, it must also be removed.
  • Then we stick our hand into the hole for the speaker and disconnect the pads with power wires from the fog lamp switch and rear heating windshield.

  • Remove the instrument cluster by unscrewing the two screws securing it to the panel. Then, pulling slightly towards ourselves, unscrew the fastening nut and take out the flexible drive cable with the speedometer.

  • We disconnect the blocks with the supply wires from the combination and remove it to the side.

  • We do the same with the ignition switch, namely, we disconnect the block with the supply wires and remove the ground wire of the ignition relay from the connector.
  • There will also be a wire for the air damper opening control lamp next to it. There is no such wire on the injector.

  • On each side, unscrew one bottom screw for securing the panel.
  • Disconnect the supply wires for the illumination of the glove box.

  • We unscrew the screws securing the heater panel and take it down so that it does not interfere.
  • Then we unscrew the screws securing the guide rod of the interior heater.

  • And at the final stage of dismantling work, we unscrew the remaining panel fastening screws - the upper side and central screws. Remove the panel.

On this renovation work on completed.

Possible malfunctions

What malfunctions are typical for dashboards of VAZ cars? Check out the main list after watching the video about connecting the shield from the VAZ 2110 to the "nine" (video by Garage B.F.S).

  1. The speedometer does not work. There may be several reasons for this - a break in the cable, its incorrect installation or wear of the socket. Try to disconnect the cable and reconnect.
  2. Not fixing the vehicle's mileage. Usually this problem is solved by replacing the device.
  3. This or that indicator does not light up. Perhaps the sensor itself is out of order or the light bulb has burned out.
  4. The instrument panel illumination does not work. This is usually due to burned out light bulbs or poor contacts. There may also be problems in the electrical circuit, but this rarely happens.
  5. The coolant or oil level sensor is giving incorrect information. For example, the driver is warned of a lack of engine fluid level or refrigerant boiling in expansion tank, but in fact, with these parameters, everything is normal. The problem is usually solved by replacing the sensors.

Installation and repair instructions

If you are faced with the problem of failure of the dashboard of a VAZ 2109 vehicle, then the most the best option will be replacing the flap with your own hands. In order to properly replace, you will need the instructions for dismantling and installing the shield, which are given below. To complete these steps, you only need flat and Phillips screwdrivers. The instruction is shown using the example of a low dashboard, but in general it is identical for the rest of the dashboard options. N Don't forget to disconnect the battery!

  1. First of all, it is necessary to de-energize the system; for this, disconnect the terminals from the battery.
  2. Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the plastic trim around the steering wheel. You may not need to remove it, but it is advisable to do it for greater convenience.
  3. You can also disconnect the steering column switches by simply disconnecting the wiring harness.
  4. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the two small screws securing the dashboard visor, dismantle this element.
  5. After these steps, you can compress the springs and remove the electronic shield from the center console.
  6. The next step is to disconnect. It is necessary to be most careful when dismantling so as not to damage the cable, especially if it is old. Otherwise, it will need to be replaced.
  7. Next, turn off the white outlet and remove the econometric hose.
  8. Then, the cable for resetting the data of the daily mileage of the car should be disconnected from the speedometer.
  9. The final step will be to disconnect the red connector and dismantle the shield itself. A new panel is replaced and installed, after which further assembly is carried out in the reverse order.

As you can see, the procedure is not particularly complicated - it is enough to do everything in accordance with the instructions and there will be no problems in the further operation of the device.

Learn about how the dashboards are replaced on the "nines" from the video below (the author of the video is Sdelaj Sam! Pljus interesnoe!).

Removing a low instrument panel on a VAZ 2109 car is carried out in order to replace it or perform various repairs, in which its presence will interfere with operation. For dismantling, prepare a standard set of tools, remove the steering wheel and you can proceed.

The order of work is as follows:

  • First of all, we remove the decorative knobs for controlling the interior heater and the mode switch for the heating motor.

  • Next, you need to unscrew the screws securing the decorative cover of the console. The screws are located on the sides. After that, take the cover back a little, as far as the internal wiring will allow.

  • Now we disconnect all bags with wires from the cover. They should be pre-marked so that they do not mix up in places during the subsequent assembly. This includes - outdoor light switch, fog lights, hazard warning lights, heated rear window.

  • We immediately disconnect the power wires of the cigarette lighter and its backlight.

  • Next, we unscrew the screws securing the interior heating control panel, only four screws.
  • Remove the screws securing the instrument cluster visor.

  • Having removed the visor, we squeeze the spring clips and remove the instrument cluster itself from the panel.

  • Now unscrew the nut that secures the speedometer drive and disconnect the cable.

  • Immediately remove the economizer hose from the fitting, remove the block with supply wires (white and red) and disconnect the speedometer's daily mileage reset cable. Set the combination aside so it doesn't get in the way.

  • Next, remove the plastic knobs for turning on and adjusting the brightness of the combination backlight and the headlight hydrocorrector. After that, with a socket wrench, we unscrew the nuts securing the regulators to the panel body and, having removed the nuts, push them inward.

  • We proceed to the ignition lock. Disconnect the bag with power cables, then insert the key into the lock and turn it to the zero position to release the steering wheel lock.
  • Remove the steering column tube with the lock.

  • Pull the air damper rod slightly towards you and remove the decorative handle. Then unscrew the two screws and remove the rod guide.

  • And at the final stage, it remains to unscrew all the screws securing the panel to the body. Namely - two side, bottom, screw located in the glove box, unscrew the screws securing the console at the bottom.
  • Remove the panel.

This completes the repair work. Install in reverse order.
