Instructions for replacing the timing chain with your own hands

To work on replacing the timing chain on the Nissan Qashqai will need:

  • ratchet with extension;
  • end heads "6", "8", "10", "13", "16", "19";

  • sealant;
  • adaptation KV10111100;
  • puller KV111030000;
  • jack
  • gloves;

  • special puller for the crankshaft pulley;

How to change:

  1. We install the car on the inspection pit.
  2. We remove the right wheel.
  3. Unscrew and remove the motor cover.
  4. We dismantle the exhaust manifold.
  5. Drain the engine oil from the unit.
  6. Unscrew and remove the cylinder head cover.
  7. We turn the crankshaft and set the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position during compression.
  8. We jack up the engine and remove and unscrew the right engine mount.
  9. We dismantle the alternator belt.
  10. Using a special tool, we hold the pulley from turning, unscrew the bolts securing the crankshaft pulley by 10-15 mm.
  11. After installing the puller KV111030000, press the pulley off the crankshaft.
  12. Unscrew the pulley attachment bot completely and remove the roller from the crankshaft.
  13. Unscrew and remove the hinged belt tensioner.
  14. Disconnect the harness connector from the valve of the variable valve timing system
  15. We unscrew the fastening bolt and remove the solenoid valve.
  16. Using a ratchet and a head for bolts "22", "16", "13", "10", "8". We turn the mounting bolts in the sequence shown in photo 13.
  17. With a knife, cut the seal seams and detach the cover.
  18. Having inserted a rod with a diameter of 1.5 mm into the hole, squeeze the tensioner and fix it.
  19. We unscrew the upper bolt with the bushing, the upper fastening of the chain guide and remove the guide.
  20. Disassemble the other chain guide in the same way.
  21. We remove the timing chain first from the crankshaft sprocket, then from the intake and exhaust valve pulleys.
  22. If necessary, dismantle the tensioner mount.
  23. We install a new timing chain in the reverse order of removal, aligning the marks on the chain and on the pulleys.
  24. We clean the joints on the cylinder block and the timing case cover from the old sealant.
  25. Apply a new sealant with a thickness of 3.4-4.4 mm.
  26. We put the timing cover in place and tighten the bolts indicated in photo 20, with such an effort (tightening torque):
    • fastening bolts 2,4,6,8,12 - 75Nm;
    • fastening bolts 6,7,10,11,14 - 55 Nm;
    • fastening bolts 3,5,9,13,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22 - 25.5 Nm
  27. We collect the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal.
