The term "cold" refers to various groups of diseases, which in official terminology are called ARI (acute respiratory disease) and ARVI (acute respiratory viral infection). Just like the flu, they are transmitted from person to person by airborne droplets. One of the main differences between a cold and the flu is the absence of a high temperature or its slight increase. Also, with the flu, a feeling of aching muscles, pain behind the eyes often develops - with a cold, such symptoms are usually not observed.

Symptoms and treatment of the common cold

As a rule, a cold begins to develop gradually - 1-3 days after contact with a carrier of the virus. Then the main symptoms of the disease gradually increase - sore throat, cough, runny nose, headache, muscle weakness. Symptoms of the disease may persist for 7 or 10 days. Among the possible complications of growth can be diseases such as inflammation of the middle ear or sinusitis.

For the treatment of colds, various drugs are prescribed - antiviral agents, antipyretics, as well as means to relieve the common cold and cough. It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids, at least 2-2.5 liters per day. Alkaline mineral water, various teas with lemon, honey, ginger, hot drinks with a high content of vitamin C are needed. It is advisable for the patient to stay at home, since a cold carried on the legs can lead to complications. People who are in the same room with the patient need to take preventive measures - wear medical masks, ventilate the room if possible and treat surfaces with a disinfectant solution.

Of course, folk remedies for colds do not help to completely cure the disease. But they can significantly alleviate its symptoms. For example, plants such as chamomile, sage, pine have bactericidal properties, while rose hips and mountain ash strengthen the body as a whole. They may be used as an adjunct to drug therapy.

Among the most popular and effective folk remedies for colds are:

  • tea with lemon and honey. Lemon contains a large amount of vitamin C and has antiseptic properties, and honey helps to absorb vitamins and normalize metabolism;
  • raspberries. Of all natural remedies, raspberry is considered the most effective diaphoretic and antipyretic. In addition, raspberries contain salicylic acid. It is this substance that is the main component of aspirin. But, unlike aspirin, raspberries do not irritate the gastric mucosa. Most often, raspberries are added to tea, and also mixed with honey;
  • garlic. Exists various ways the use of garlic - in crushed form, juice mixed with honey or in the form of steam inhalations. To relieve a runny nose, it is not recommended to put garlic directly into the nose, as this can burn the mucous membrane;
  • Hot milk. It has a calming effect on the nervous system and helps you sleep well. You can also add cinnamon, pepper or honey to milk;
  • red pepper. Beneficial features ground red pepper were discovered in ancient India. It is able to dilate blood vessels and has powerful antiseptic properties. Therefore, it is best to add it to tea;
  • essential oils. They can be taken orally, added to tea, lubricated from the inside of the nose, or used in aromatic lamps. Special medicinal properties have lavender, mint, orange and pine oils.

Not everyone is equally useful and shown folk remedies for colds. For example, honey should not be used by patients with diabetes. People with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract should not consume garlic, lemon and red pepper. Patients prone to increased blood pressure, raspberries are contraindicated. Therefore, even when choosing medicines with the content of natural ingredients, you should consult your doctor.

Yet the best remedy for colds is their prevention. It includes the necessary precautions and observance of sanitary and hygienic standards when in contact with patients and visiting public places. First of all, it is necessary to strengthen the immune system.

Human immunity is a system that protects the body from infectious diseases. Unfortunately, in a big city, there are many factors that contribute to the weakening of the body's natural defenses. This is an unfavorable ecological situation, and an unbalanced diet, and lack of sleep.

Therefore, first of all, for prevention it is necessary to observe the following recommendations:

  • eat well and monitor the amount of vitamins and minerals necessary for health;
  • avoid nervous and physical overload;
  • avoid hypothermia;
  • to refuse from bad habits;
  • sleep enough hours a day.

It should be noted that the means intended to strengthen the immune system and are widely presented on the shelves of pharmacies, for the most part, do not have proven clinical effectiveness. Therefore, the prevention of colds with their help is unlikely to lead to positive results. The same applies to homeopathic medicines - one should not blindly and uncontrollably believe in their properties, rejecting medicines recommended by official medicine.

The most effective preventive measures during the period of colds are the use of medical masks and the restriction of visits to crowded places. The medical mask must be changed every hour, as its protective properties are reduced. It should be used in contact with sick people if they cannot be avoided.

To avoid infection, people living with a sick person with acute respiratory infections or acute respiratory viral infections must wear medical masks, disinfect surfaces and not use his items - cups, towels, bed linen.

Among the foods that help strengthen the immune system, you can find vegetables, fruits, low-fat dairy products, cereals, chicken broth and pure still water.

How they work:

  • drinking water helps to maintain fluid balance and metabolic processes in the body;
  • tea with lemon, honey or raspberries has a vasodilating and warming effect;
  • fermented milk products have a positive effect on the functioning of the digestive organs and the immune system;
  • fruits and vegetables contain many vitamins and minerals necessary for strengthening the immune system and the health of the whole body;
  • beef is one of the most beneficial species meat. Microelements contained in beef help protect the body from diseases;
  • chicken broth is useful for all those who suffer from colds and those who try to avoid them. It also accelerates the patient's rehabilitation after illness and has general strengthening properties.

Even the most healthy people with strong immunity are prone to colds and can get sick 2-3 times a year. Preventive measures cannot completely prevent the development of diseases, but they help to significantly reduce the number of patients. Of course, adherence to the principles of a healthy lifestyle can several times reduce the risk of any diseases, including colds.

Colds are a sure sign of the onset of autumn. Infections spread at lightning speed and medications are not always able to solve the problem. Where medicines cannot be used, folk remedies for colds will come to the rescue.

Where does the cold come from

Viruses that cause colds and flu do not always cause illness when they enter the body. However, if the immune system fails, then under the influence of favorable factors, viruses multiply and the person becomes ill.

Factors favorable for the reproduction of viruses and pathogenic flora:

  • hypothermia (low body temperature);
  • chronic diseases (permanent focus of infection);
  • weakened, inability to fight an infectious attack;
  • excessive physical and mental overload, stress.

Signs of a cold

A respiratory infection should not be confused with diseases of a bacterial nature, since the approach to treatment is fundamentally different. ARI is characterized by:

  1. An increase in body temperature within moderate limits (up to 38-38.5 0);
  2. General weakness and malaise;
  3. The development of a reaction from the nasopharyngeal mucosa - swelling and nasal congestion;
  4. Gradual increase in signs of the disease;
  5. Hyperemia of the mucous throat;
  6. With the spread of infection in the respiratory tract, a cough appears, which develops into a cough, usually on the third or fourth day;
  7. Headaches.

If timely measures are not taken, the disease threatens with serious complications from the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.

How to treat a cold

Ideally, treatment should be prescribed by a specialist. In any disease, be it the flu, a sore throat or the common cold, consistency and consistency are important for proper treatment. But if the opportunity to apply for medical care no, you should pay attention to traditional medicine recipes designed to combat colds at home.

In contrast to the narrowly focused action of the drug, traditional medicine not only defeats the common cold, eliminates the symptoms, but also strengthens the body, stimulates the immune system, and triggers natural reactions to restore the body after an illness.

There are active points on the face, the impact on which will help to cope with a cold:

  • Points on both sides near the wings of the nose will relieve a runny nose and relieve congestion;
  • From a cold, it is necessary to massage the point between the eyebrows and near the tragus of the ear.

In addition, it is necessary to ensure that the room in which the patient is resting is ventilated, the air temperature does not exceed 22 0 C, the room must be wet cleaned daily, linen and clothes should be changed in a timely manner.

The patient is shown a plentiful hot drink, vitamin-mineral complexes.

If, after the measures taken, the disease does not go away, there is a deterioration in the condition, it is necessary to seek medical help. The doctor will give recommendations on what drugs and how to take in order to recover from a cold.

Cold includes a number of diseases caused by hypothermia of the body. A cold occurs for the simple reason that during hypothermia or in another situation that depresses the immune system, those viruses and bacteria that your immune system easily contained are activated.

Causes of a cold

Fluctuations in temperature and humidity of the air and the associated hypothermia of the whole organism or its individual parts; low body resistance.

Cold symptoms

General malaise, cough, runny nose, sometimes fever. Symptoms of a cold, or, more correctly, SARS (acute respiratory viral infection) do not appear at once and do not disappear immediately, some, such as a runny nose or cough, can last for quite a long time.

Cold treatment

With a cold, bed rest is indicated. If you endure a cold "on your feet" and do not treat it, complications are possible on the internal organs, and these consequences will affect you in adulthood.

Here are some doctor's tips to help manage a mild cold:

Constantly monitor the temperature with a cold, if it does not rise above 38 and the state of health at the same time is normal - do not take antipyretic drugs, the heat destroys viruses and microbes. It is necessary to resort to antipyretic drugs for the treatment of colds only in cases where the temperature is above 38 ° C

Drink more fluids when you have a cold: hot tea, rosehip infusion, cranberry juice, warm milk. Together with the liquid, viruses and their toxins will be washed out of the cells of the body. It is undesirable to drink plain water so as not to reduce the supply of salts in the body. To deal with the chills, put on cotton underwear and something warm over it. Firstly, multi-layer clothing retains heat better, and secondly, the components of such a “wardrobe” can easily be varied depending on body temperature.

Put an extra pillow under your head before bed if you have a cold with a runny nose.- this will facilitate the outflow of mucus, and a runny nose with a cough will not be too strong in a dream. You can simply raise the head of the bed.

Feeling the onset of a cold, spend a couple of days at home in bed. This is both the warmth necessary for a cold, and saving energy, which is better spent on fighting the virus.

If you lose your appetite while treating a cold, do not force yourself to eat. Ideal for treating colds are products such as kefir, yogurt, fermented baked milk. The bacteria found in lactic acid foods help fight colds. Use immunomodulators such as garlic, onions, fresh lard. Onions baked, unlike raw, can be eaten in any quantity.

If a cold lasts more than a week, can not do without drugs. It is better, of course, that a doctor picks them up and prescribes them for the treatment of a cold. However, surveys show that most people prefer to treat their colds without resorting to doctors. Only buy medicines in trusted pharmacies, because the market is littered with fake medicines. Moreover, the most popular ones are especially often faked: analgin, aspirin and other common painkillers and antipyretics.

When treating a cold, it is impossible to suppress a cough with pills., with the help of coughing, the lungs and bronchi are cleared of mucus and microbes. Expectorants are recommended: mukaltin, licorice root, plantain.

In the treatment of colds, acupressure is recommended. With the onset of a runny nose, experts advise pressing on the points located next to the wings of the nose, under the nose, between the eyes and in the center of the chin. To reduce chills, act on a point just below the elbow joint. For headaches, massage the area between the large and index finger(if you bring them together, the desired point will be on top).

Treating a cold with home remedies, Vanga's recipes

Colds people are more susceptible in spring and autumn. The majority treats a cold as an inevitability and does not even try to cure it, believing that, no matter how you treat it, cold It won't go away for at least a week anyway. In fact, you can cope with the disease if you catch a cold at the very beginning and do not let the cold take over your body. In addition, at the initial stage, it is not only not necessary to swallow pills, but it is not necessary either, because there are many other effective methods of treatment.

Runny nose with a cold

There is a saying: if a runny nose is not treated, it will pass in a week, if treated, in 7 days. This is far from true. If you start to be treated on time, you can get rid of a runny nose in just a couple of days or even prevent its occurrence.

At the first symptoms of a cold and runny nose, irrigate the nasopharynx with saline. Then the runny nose will pass not in a week, but in two days. Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of boiled water and use a syringe to rinse the nasal passages in turn. In this case, you can not throw your head back - you need to stand directly above the sink so that the water pours back. You can use a very weak infusion of garlic to irrigate the nasopharynx, when preparing the infusion, try it on a healthy person, the infusion should not pinch the non-inflamed nasopharynx.

One of the most effective ways to deal with stuffy nose is steam inhalation. Add a few drops of menthol or eucalyptus essential oil to boiling water, cover your head with a towel and breathe over the bowl of boiling water. Eucalyptus and menthol have anti-inflammatory properties and make breathing easier. If you add a little dry cinnamon to this water - it will help to warm up and sweat, or 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, which improves blood circulation and copes with viruses.

Another well-known remedy for a runny nose and colds is to steam your feet well before going to bed. Foot baths do help, but only if you soak your feet for no more than five minutes. The fact is that the effect of foot baths is based on the mechanism of vasoconstriction (most nose drops have approximately the same effect). When you soar your legs, the blood rushes to the lower extremities, the vessels of the head begin to narrow, and the runny nose disappears. If you keep your feet in the basin for a long time, say half an hour, your vessels will begin to dilate again, blood will again rush into the nasal cavity, and inflammation may develop that is much greater than the original. That is, paradoxically, instead of disappearing, the runny nose will intensify. Soaring your legs for a long time is useful for colds without a runny nose, thereby raising body temperature and helping the immune system cope with viruses. Attention! Any hot baths are contraindicated at elevated temperatures!

Cough with a cold

At the first sign of an incipient cough, your main task is to warm up well and strengthen your immune system to help your body get rid of this scourge.

A good warming effect gives an infusion of peppermint. Pour a tablespoon of mint with a glass of boiling water, heat for 5 minutes over low heat, strain. Then stir in this infusion a teaspoon of honey, the juice of a quarter of a lemon and drink the infusion hot before going to bed. In most cases, after such treatment, the cough disappears literally overnight. To fix the effect, it is good to make a hot compress by mixing three parts of hot water with one part of apple cider vinegar. The compress is applied to the throat and chest for 15-20 minutes.

Well, in order to strengthen the body's defenses, it is worth leaning on ascorbic acid and foods that contain vitamin C, that is, citrus fruits and fresh vegetables. And as an addition, an “anti-cold” cocktail is suitable: take a teaspoon of rosehip syrup, 2 tablespoons of beetroot juice and kefir, squeeze the juice of half a lemon into this mixture.

Sore throat with a cold

Gargling with warm water to which a few drops of eucalyptus, thyme or cypress oil are added will help to quickly cope with a sore throat. All these plants have an antibacterial effect and help fight infection.

A hot bath with 10 drops of lavender oil and 5 drops of cinnamon oil also helps. However, if, in addition to a sore throat, you also have a fever, it is better to cancel the bath - hot water combined with heat puts too much stress on the heart. Therefore, instead of a bath, it is better to simply rub your feet with a hard towel.

A tablespoon of dried coltsfoot leaves is brewed like tea in a glass of boiling water. Filter, add a tablespoon of honey and three tablespoons of beer. Take warm in a tablespoon 2-3 times a day. Beer can also be used as a compress if alcohol compresses irritate the skin of the neck. Heat a glass of beer to 30 degrees, add 1 teaspoon of honey and stir well until the honey dissolves. Soak a napkin in this composition, wrap it around your neck and wrap it with a warm scarf.

Treatment of runny nose and colds by fasting

It is bad to live when a runny nose begins. And if this happens, please don't blame nature. It's not about drafts, wet feet, or cold. The reason lies in the loss of inner purity. When there is too much waste and toxins, the body rejects them with a runny nose. Don't think of it as a viral exposure or disease. You must understand that the vital forces in this case are working for you.

If you are in fellowship with nature, you will help her in her cleansing work. You must not do anything to interfere with the cleaning process. The only thing required of you is fasting!

Nature knows best what to do. In this case, you have only one thing to do - lie down in a warm bed. Stop taking all food, including fruits and fruit juices. From time to time, drink large amounts of hot distilled water with a little honey and lemon juice and nothing else!
Keep the bedroom well ventilated and clean, don't read, don't turn on the radio, don't watch TV. Just sleep and rest. Try not to waste energy on talking with relatives and friends. Isolate yourself completely.

How long should you fast during a cleansing crisis? Such crises occur at any time of the year, but most often they occur in cold weather. Most often, three days is enough to get back on your feet, but sometimes it can take a week or ten days. Do not worry about the days, you yourself will find that your health has become better after the cleansing crisis.

For most people, the method seems too simple. It seems to them that they must definitely do something, be treated, they are possessed by fears. There is no need to panic, even if it seems that nature is working too long for your purification and health.

Each person should treat his health with the more attention, the more he is imbued with an understanding of his body. He must keep the organism in the highest state of health, and this is more important than the knowledge of other sciences.

Each person is the builder of his own character, but he is also the custodian of his own health and well-being.

Nature, having created man, gave him an amazing mind and creative abilities to skillfully use natural forces for his health. Fasting is only one of the paths leading to natural health. Nature gives us a simple cleanser. We only have to be at one with nature and bring our life into line with its immutable laws. And thanks to the natural way of life, we can bring our physical, mental and spiritual capabilities to the highest perfection. There are no shortcuts to health. Nature expects us to do our part. When we are hungry, we do it. But nature will never show her miracles until we ourselves are willing to bring our lives and habits into full conformity with her laws.

Any excess is contrary to nature.
trust nature
No person has the right to take any obligation to heal another, because this is the work of nature.
By fasting and eating only natural food, as well as other natural habits, anyone can make their life healthy. Purification is an internal biological function that can only be performed by the body itself, and by fasting, you make this work more efficient. Nature is constantly trying to make you more vital and healthy, and therefore, when nature begins cleansing crises, she knows what she is doing. Follow nature, she will never let you down. Fasting is the greatest helper. (P. Bragg The Miracle of Fasting)

Prevention of colds and SARS

Here are some pretty simple rules to help you avoid SARS.

A good barrier to infection is a gauze bandage, or mask. It will protect you in crowded places. But do not forget: the mask protects only for 2-3 hours, after which it should be changed to a fresh one.

Studies have shown that during the day a person's hands come into contact hundreds of times with discharge from the nose, mouth, eyes.

Shaking hands, touching doorknobs, handrails in public transport are all ways of transmitting infection through the hands.

Microbes enter the nose, mouth, and eyes through the hands.

Therefore, it is advisable, if possible, to refuse handshakes in general (especially during epidemics of viral diseases). Hands should be washed frequently, especially during periods of unfavorable epidemiological situation.

In order to prevent influenza and SARS, it is very important to limit contact with sick people, this is especially true for children. It is advisable to avoid crowded places, use public transport as little as possible. Long walks in the fresh air are useful.

General strengthening measures

One of the important methods for the prevention of acute respiratory diseases (in this case, we are not talking about influenza) is hardening, which is aimed at normalizing the function of the human respiratory system under conditions of exposure to low temperature regime which reduces the risk of infection.

For the purpose of prevention, it is recommended to take multivitamins with a high content of vitamin C. Ascorbic acid has a general strengthening effect, as it participates in redox processes, carbohydrate metabolism, and regulation of the blood coagulation system. Vitamin C is rich in citrus fruits (lemons, oranges, grapefruits, tangerines), a lot of it in sauerkraut.

Inside, ascorbic acid is taken 0.5-1 g 1-2 times a day.

Garlic and onions are a very affordable and indispensable means of prevention during the period of mass incidence of influenza and colds. Every day it is enough to eat 3-4 cloves of garlic or 1 fresh onion.

Additional measures

Additional preventive measures include gargling and toileting the nose.

For rinsing, you can use solutions of furacilin, soda, infusions or decoctions of medicinal plants (chamomile, sage, eucalyptus).

For the toilet of the nose, the anterior parts of the nose are washed with plenty of soap and water. In this case, the mechanical removal of foreign elements occurs. You can lubricate the nasal mucosa with oily onion-garlic infusion.

  • Recipe: 0.3 cups of vegetable oil, 3-4 cloves of garlic, 0.25 onions.
    Soak vegetable oil in a glass bowl for 30-40 minutes in a boiling water bath. Finely chop the onion and garlic, pour over the chilled oil. Leave the mixture for 2 hours and strain.
    For preventive purposes, you can do 10-15-minute warm foot baths with the addition of dry mustard, after which it is very useful to rub the feet with any warming ointment.

It should be remembered that alternative methods of prevention will be effective only if they are applied systematically.

We must not forget that during periods of epidemics, weakened people become victims of diseases first of all.

The risk group includes people with any chronic diseases, subject to frequent stressful situations, malnourished, alcohol abusers.

You need to be especially careful about yourself in the spring, when the body is in a weakened state after a long cold period. At this time, when everything in nature comes to life, a person often begins the so-called spring depression. The causes of spring fatigue can be the consequences of colds, lack of sleep, lack of sunlight, vitamin deficiency.

Gradually accumulating, these negative factors become especially noticeable in the spring. It is not always possible to drastically change something in your life (for example, quit a boring job).

Therefore, you can try to start with what is quite affordable: rearrange the furniture, buy new things if possible, and get rid of the old ones, plant new houseplants, etc.

All this will certainly improve your state of mind. But if, nevertheless, you did not manage to overcome the spring crisis and you fell ill, then take all possible measures for a speedy recovery.

Diet for colds

With a very severe cold with a high temperature in the early days, you need to refrain from food, drink plenty of fluids, fruit and vegetable juices diluted with water. It is recommended to increase the body's resistance and reduce the duration of the disease 1-2 times a day to drink the juice of one lemon (vitamin C), dissolved in a glass of water with a teaspoon of honey. It is useful to take garlic decoction once a day (3-4 crushed garlic cloves pour a glass of water and boil), which has antispasmodic and antiseptic effects, flushes toxins from the body and relieves fever. After the acute stage of the disease is over, you can gradually move on to a balanced diet, initially limiting the consumption of meat, eggs, cheese and starchy foods.
