One of the largest Japanese car manufacturers. Basically, these are minicar models. Also produced are compact minivans, pickups and SUVs. This technique is known and respected all over the world. In 1951, the Hatsudoki Seizo Co company was reorganized, after which it was named Daihatsu, and in 1967 it was merged with the company.

Today Daihatsu mainly produces small cars. The laconic slogan “We make it compact” reflects the company's philosophy and emphasizes the focus on small cars. In light of global trends, the company's developers are confident that they are moving in the right direction, and strive to produce even more compact and economical small displacement cars.

The rise of mass production

The first passenger car with a pickup body was developed by the company in 1960. The unit with the short name Hi-Jet had a 0.35 liter engine. By 1962, on the basis of Hi-Jet, the company was producing a second pickup truck, which was named New Line and was equipped with a 0.8 liter engine. In the 70s, Daihatsu started exporting to the UK. At the moment, the company is among the leaders in the production of compact cars, which are popular all over the world.

Iconic models

Daihatsu Copen is one of the smallest coupe-convertible cars produced by Japanese company Daihatsu since June 2002. Officially sold only on the domestic market. The Daihatsu Mira hatchback is the basis for the creation of this two-seater convertible with a hardtop. The car has become a cult among young people in different countries along with Mini, Smart and other subcompacts. You can often see various modifications of the interior, trimmed, for example, with crocodile leather with rhinestones.

When the roof of the Daihatsu Copen is raised, the boot volume reaches 210 liters, but when the semi-hard top is retracted and placed in the space behind the double cabin, only 14 liters are left for luggage. More than 50% of Daihatsu vehicles are sold in the domestic market in Japan. The rest is exported to more than 146 countries. There is no Daihatsu representative in Russia, although a limited number of models, including the second generation Terios, can be bought at a car dealership.

Daihatsu cars in Japan occupy a niche mainly for young and active people who prefer mobility and comfort. Small cars produced by Daihatsu enjoy stable success among residents of large cities.

For a long time, Daihatsu cars have enjoyed a stable, albeit local (mainly in the Far East) popularity on the territory of Russia. In the minds of motorists of the late nineties, Daihatsu is a small "jeep" - "the right cornfield" (Rocky and Feroza models), or an even smaller car with right-hand drive. Rumor has consistently attributed outstanding economic performance to the firm's products. It was generally accepted that this car consumes little, and serves for a long time, but if it has already broken down, it can simply be thrown away, since there are no spare parts for it, or they are too expensive. Almost nothing was known about the fact that Daihatsu is, in fact, a division of the Toyota concern, and that many parts of cars of these brands are interchangeable. The glory of the "dark horse" pursued the company until the mid-2000s, before the massive sales of Daihatsu in Europe and the appearance of new Daihatsu left-hand drive vehicles in the European part of Russia.
