Rating of the best budget winter tires

Not only the quality and comfort of driving, but also driving safety depends on car tires during the cold period. First of all, winter tires are required to ensure the responsiveness of the car and its high-quality adhesion to the roadway for the shortest braking distance.

Here are the important parameters for compiling the TOP of the best tires:

  • Economical fuel consumption;
  • Minimum rolling resistance;
  • The ability to get out of a rut;
  • Resistant to aquaplaning;
  • Effective snow removal from the tread sipes;
  • Large contact patch;
  • Resistance to movement on poor-quality road surfaces;
  • Maintaining controllability at high speed;
  • Wide range of sizes;
  • Abrasion resistance.

In addition to these factors, the price-quality ratio was taken into account, which is especially important when choosing budget tires. Also, the rating is based on feedback from drivers and experts.

The best budget winter tires without studs

Non-studded tires are better suited for mild climates, where frost and sudden temperature changes are rare. Their main advantage is comfortable movement on roads with little snow or on an open roadway.

The rating of budget winter tires is opened by a model from the Belshina brand. Its main advantage lies in its balanced driving characteristics, thanks to which it is suitable for safe operation in the cold. The tires have a deep tread pattern with wide sipes for water drainage. The multidirectional and zigzag shape protects the car from aquaplaning even on a wet road with puddles. The moisture removal technology has proven itself positively when driving on snow and slush. The rubber does not burrow and distributes weight well, allowing you to ride where others get stuck. Tire owners note the minimum noise level, smooth ride and good grip.

Advantages:

  • Compensates for unevenness on the road without causing strong shaking;
  • Silent movement on any surface;
  • Walks well in the snow;
  • Keeps the car securely in urban mud;
  • Low wear rate.

Disadvantages:

  • It is not very pleasant to get out of the rut at high speed;
  • Confident movement on the highway at speeds up to 110-115 km / h.

The peculiarity of the tread pattern provides comfort for trips in urban conditions, but rubber is not quite suitable for long-distance travel. It is somewhat bumpy, which manifests itself at a fast set of high speeds or at sharp turns.

It is a friction rubber for winter with a reliable tread, which is designed for passenger cars. It is characterized by ride comfort, low rolling resistance and high safety when driving on road bumps. The optimal placement of the checkers with a small offset to the edges ensures the model is slow-moving and helps to damp vibrations when traveling on embankments and roads with complex configurations. Due to the large number of grooves with different directions, the model quickly removes slush and snow from the contact patch. The design of the sipes ensures the predictable behavior of the car during maneuvers and turns, and also maintains directional stability.

Advantages:

  • Wear-resistant rubber compound;
  • Combined frame with robust steel belt;
  • Resistance to mechanical damage;
  • Elasticity at temperature extremes;
  • Good road holding in snow and slush.

Disadvantages:

  • Slightly long stopping distance;
  • Small stones accumulate in soft lamellas.

To buy inexpensive winter tires of this model will be appropriate for owners of passenger cars with 14 wheel diameters. The positive change in the updated rubber is the improved traction, which has been achieved by adjusting the compound and tread pattern. Also, tires are distinguished by their ability to quickly accelerate and decelerate under various road conditions and temperatures.

In the center of the rubber there are 2 rows of large blocks that improve the traction of the car. The abundance of grooves on the shoulder areas contributes to the immediate removal of liquid and snow, and also improves directional stability. The symmetrical, arrow-shaped pattern has a positive effect on the even wear of the rubber.

Advantages:

  • Optimal contact patch size (average);
  • Soft move;
  • Strong cord and good rubber composition, resistant to mechanical damage;
  • Good handling on snow;
  • Wear resistance.

Disadvantages:

  • Great care must be taken on ice;
  • At positive temperatures, the rubber can "float".

These tires are great for urban driving as they handle any kind of snow with ease, provide excellent traction and create a minimum of noise.

Best Budget Studded Winter Tires

It is recommended to buy studded tires in regions with frequent frosts and icy roads. Its main advantage lies in its ability to provide good adhesion to slippery ice... Spiked tires are much better on smooth surfaces than non-studded counterparts, but they also create more noise.

If you want to buy inexpensive winter tires, which would give confident grip on a road covered with snow and ice, Kama-Euro-519 is good choice, because it retains its elasticity even in severe frosts. The double-layer tread contributes to good handling in domestic conditions.

The lower layer is made of high-strength rubber, which, in combination with the studs, helps to maintain stability on the road. The tread pattern upper provides a smooth ride at low temperatures. Although the sidewall of the rubber is elastic, it easily takes impacts without the appearance of ghouls.

Advantages:

  • Good grip on ice;
  • Small braking distance;
  • If it goes into a skid, then smoothly, allowing the driver to react;
  • Quiet running;
  • Allows you to easily get out of a rut.

Disadvantages:

  • Requires running-in, during which the characteristics are reduced;
  • On a clean road, it does not behave very stable under strong acceleration.

If you need to buy car tires at a low price and for several seasons in advance, then this model fits perfectly, on average it is enough for five winters.

Marshal studded tires offer a high degree of safety and reliability. The listed properties of the tire were acquired due to the special composition of rubber, which does not change its characteristics when the temperature drops and always remains elastic. Aggressive tread design with multidirectional grooves contributes to reliable traction, even with side contact. The rubber is produced with a large number of solid blocks and wide channels only on the sides, which guarantees a large contact patch and the ability to perform relatively difficult maneuvers.

Advantages:

  • Minimum noise;
  • Confident braking on snow and ice;
  • Excellent car handling;
  • Strong thorns that rarely fall out;
  • Long-lasting material.

Disadvantages:

  • In case of a sudden change of lane, care must be taken;
  • The thorns do not dig deep enough into the ice.

A feature of the model is the specific placement of wedge-shaped studs, which provide excellent handling on rolled snow and on an icy track. The presence of notches on them improves stability even at high speeds.

If you need tires for winter, inexpensive, but with excellent driving performance then the Roadstone model is the right solution. The tread demonstrates excellent grip on ice and snowy trails. The key advantage of tires is the 12-row studding system, which protects against skids, slopes, skidding and guarantees excellent handling and driving safety.

The arrow-shaped pattern improves the responsiveness of the car on any type of coverage, even with temperature changes. Numerous longitudinal channels are responsible for efficient drainage of liquid from the contact patch and prevent gliding effect. The V-pattern is sturdy for a more confident ride.

Advantages:

  • 12 rows of spikes;
  • Keeps the car on ice well;
  • Wave-shaped sipes improve vehicle control;
  • Minimum wear resistance;
  • Acoustic comfort for passengers.

Disadvantages:

  • Sometimes slipping occurs on ice;
  • Heavy rubber slightly increases consumption and acceleration speed.

Rubber provides strong traction, but only when studded. If they are worn out or dropped out, the tires become slippery. True, 12-row studding disappears for a very long time and rarely.

The Ice Cruiser 7 model is a budget analogue of the Ice Cruiser 7000. The tires have a continuous rib in the center with small notches to wick moisture away. In the shoulder area, large checkers with deep slats are installed for quick drainage. Owners of tires note its excellent grip on asphalt, high maneuverability and directional stability. The fine-pored rubber compound is durable and provides effective contact with the road surface, which positively affects the responsiveness of the braking system.

Advantages:

  • High cross-country ability on ice and snow;
  • The tendency to self-cleaning of the tread grooves;
  • Management stability;
  • Impact and puncture resistance;
  • It brakes well on all types of surfaces.

Disadvantages:

  • Creates a little noise;
  • Hard rubber, there will be weak vibrations on bumps in the road.

Separately, it should be noted the reliable fixation of the spikes. Owners who use these tires for a season often note that none of the four wheels lose studs.

The question of choosing winter tires sooner or later arises before every motorist. Today, a huge number of similar products are presented on the market - studded wheels, all-season tires, the so-called Velcro. All winter tires can be divided into two large classes:

  • European;
  • Scandinavian.

European rubber is designed mainly for wet asphalt, light snow cover and air temperatures down to -10 degrees. According to buyers, it is not the most suitable for Russian roads, but it has an important advantage - a diagonal tread pattern, and it also has grooves for removing moisture. It is convenient to use them in the southern regions. In the rating of the best winter tires, the first places are occupied by Scandinavian models. They are designed for movement on deep snow, ice and a number of other road surfaces. Longitudinal patterns are not provided here, they have a peculiar tread pattern, which is staggered. This allows you to easily maintain control of the vehicle even while driving on the most problematic surfaces such as loose snow. In the top 10 models of winter tires, most of the places are occupied by such models, moreover, they have an excellent price-quality ratio.

What to look for when buying winter tires?

When choosing winter tires, be sure to pay attention to the following product parameters:

  • The maximum load level that the tire can withstand;
  • Resistant to wear and tear;
  • Speed index.

All this information is located on the marking indicated directly on the tires themselves. Wear resistance is defined under the Treadwear lettering. Dealing with this quality is very simple - 100 units are equivalent to 50,000 kilometers. With the load, the situation is much more complicated, since here you need to take into account the mass vehicle... This parameter must be equal to at least one third of the vehicle in a fully loaded state. The third important quality of tires that is taken into account when choosing is the speed index. It is also reflected in the markings on the tires. For Russian roads, the most optimal indicator is S. These tires do not at all impair the speed characteristics of the car, but they have good wear indicators.

More stable grip on ice, almost independent of ambient temperature. As a price to pay for confidence, you have to put up with the drawbacks - with a slightly higher braking distance on the asphalt than with friction tires and increased noise. In addition, new spike tires require running-in - about a thousand kilometers at low speed and without slippage in the longitudinal and transverse directions.

Also, studded tires are harmful to any road - they affect not only asphalt, but even cobblestones. It is the spikes that mercilessly gnaw longitudinal ruts in the asphalt.

In most European countries there are thorns. And where they are still allowed (including in Russia), their size, weight and quantity per running meter of the tire (tread), as well as their pressure on the road.

How do the clutches cling to the ice?

Non-studded tires, popularly called "Velcro", are called by experts (English friction - friction). The tire clings to the ice by the edges, which are formed due to multiple local cuts in the tread - sipes.

Friction clutches are quieter, less vibro-loaded and are able to compete with studded tires on snow and ice, and work even better in frost above 25 degrees. But due to the preconceived attitude of car owners (they say, rubber cannot cling to ice as well as iron), they are too slow to regain their place under the winter sun.

The only drawback of friction tires: at an air temperature of about zero, the "hold" on the ice decreases.

Running in friction tires is fundamentally different from running in studded tires: on the contrary, you need to drive actively, trying to move more and open the tread. The goal is to remove the grease that remains in the depth of the chill molds (it protects the 3D-lamellas from destruction when removing the molds from the "baked" tire). The second important moment of intensive running-in is the abrasion of the thin upper layer of sintered rubber of the tread, which has a lower coefficient of adhesion.

For different markets

Manufacturers divide friction clutches into two subgroups. The first one is soft tires Scandinavian directions, which are more focused on snow and ice (basically these are the ones present in our market). They have a softer tread (55 Shore and below), and a large number of sipes make them "loose" on the asphalt. To compensate for this disadvantage, lamella cuts have recently been made voluminous. With a low coefficient of adhesion, they open up, forming additional edges that cling to ice and snow. On the asphalt, under the influence of significant lateral forces, the sipes are assembled into monolithic blocks, improving the reaction of the tires.

The second group - tires for warm and wet Central European, with more developed drainage grooves in the tread, made of a harder rubber compound. They are divided into two subgroups: hard (tread hardness about 65 Shore units) and soft (55-60 units). Both of them, albeit to varying degrees, are focused more on asphalt and wet snow than on ice, and therefore are not so popular with us. The tires of the second group are suitable only for those who move exclusively within the metropolis, where the streets are thoroughly cleared of ice and snow.

To each his own!

For vehicles not equipped with ABS, we have studded tires. Frictional ones when braking on locked wheels sharply lose traction. In addition, we recommend “spikes” to novice drivers and those for whom a car is just a means of transportation.

If you have been driving for years and enjoy driving it, try soft friction tires... You will be pleasantly surprised by both the comfort and their ability to cling to the ice surface. Just be careful on ice at near-zero temperatures!

On the "European" clutches - a pleasure. In terms of reactions, such tires are not much different from summer tires.

However, it is better not to stick out outside the metropolitan areas: it is alarming on the ice on these tires.
