The fogging of windows in a car creates certain inconveniences for the driver, connected with the safety of driving a car and with wasted time. Most often, they become covered with droplets of moisture in winter or rainy weather. Misted windows are often the cause of road accidents. So, the windows in the car fog up from the inside - what to do?

Causes of fogging

There are many reasons for this unpleasant phenomenon. The most common are the following:

  • Condensation due to internal and external temperature differences. Condensation accumulates on the surface and the windows fog up.
  • Increased humidity inside the passenger compartment in rainy weather (wet clothes, seats and car mats). You turn on the stove, moisture evaporates and settles on the car windows.
  • Clogged pollen filter. It absorbs dust and moisture poorly. The latter is easily deposited on the glass.
  • Malfunction of the valve for the intake of clean air into the car. Alternatively, it may be a breakdown of the sensor that regulates the valve.

Important! The presence of drunken passengers in the cabin is also one of the reasons that the windows in the car sweat. Alcohol vapors absorb moisture, and it is deposited on the glass.

How to prevent the windows from fogging up in winter?

In winter, the problem of fogging windows is especially acute, so when buying a car, it is advisable to choose a model with a heated glass function.

Important! The device dries car windows quickly, and you save time on cleaning them.

If the car is not equipped with such a device, and the windows in the car are sweating in winter - what to do?

  • It is necessary to periodically check the health of the stove and fan. To get rid of condensation on the windows faster, it is recommended to turn on the heating system machines and fan. In other words, you should not drive warm air inside the cabin, but use its fence from the outside.
  • There is a special anti-fogging film on the market. The principle of its application is the same as for tint film.
  • There are also special products - anti-fogging agents (sold in the form of sprays or liquids). Before using these preparations, the surface is cleaned, degreased and dried. After that, you can apply the product.

Important! One application lasts on average 2 weeks.

  • You can also make an anti-fogging liquid yourself. To do this, you need ethyl alcohol or denatured alcohol mixed with glycerin (the ratio of liquids is 20: 1, that is, 1 part of glycerin is for 20 parts of alcohol).

Important! It is advisable to apply the anti-fogging liquid using a spray bottle, for example, from a window cleaner.

Folk remedies, or need for invention is cunning

If for any reason there are no store drugs at hand, you can use folk remedies:

  • Shaving foam. Apply a thin layer of gel or foam to the window and then wipe with paper or rag.
  • Salt. It perfectly absorbs moisture, so paper bags with salt laid out under the windows help to successfully fight condensation.
  • Lemon. If the windows inside the car fog up, cut open the fruit, wipe the glass pulp, and then dry the windows with a soft cloth or towel.
  • Newspaper. "Babushkino" means for giving shine to window panes is also quite good against the accumulation of condensation.
  • Soap. Draw squares in the corners of the windshield with regular soap and wipe the glass. A thin film of soap protects against condensation.

The windows in the car are sweating in the rain - what to do?

To prevent fogging of windows from bothering you in rainy weather, you need to follow these rules:

  • Good ventilation of the passenger compartment contributes to the rapid drying of the glass.
  • To dry rear window you can use an additional fan or an interior heater powered by a cigarette lighter.
  • Check the serviceability of the cabin filter periodically. If a malfunction is found, you need to replace the filter or repair the damage.
  • Do not leave wet items inside the machine. If rugs or covers get wet, dry them thoroughly.
  • Do not be lazy in a timely manner to wipe off moisture on rubber car mats.
  • Dry the car interior regularly for preventive maintenance. This is especially true for the rainy season.

Important! To prevent the windows from fogging up, slightly lower the side windows of the car when the car is moving. At the end of your ride, open the doors slightly to let fresh air into the cabin.

How do I clean misted windows?

  1. To clean the windshield and side windows, turn on the heating in the passenger compartment and then direct a warm air stream towards the window.

Important! Be careful in winter. The glass may crack due to the large temperature difference outside and inside.

  1. Blow air around your car windows when it rains. The temperature of the air stream is not important here. The air can be cold or slightly warm.
  2. To prevent the rear window from fogging up, turn on its heating immediately after starting the engine.
  3. It is advisable to clean the windows from condensation when there are a minimum number of people in the cabin, since the exhaled air contains moisture. Windows will clear faster.
  4. If the machine is equipped with an air recirculation device, this should also be used to prevent the glass from fogging up.

Important! In winter, do not turn on the "wipers" immediately, as they may break or scratch the glass. First, use a special ice-thawing agent, after which it is advisable to use a plastic scraper or brushes.

The windows fog up on all cars, regardless of the brand. The only difference is that some models provide anti-fogging systems, while others do not. Now you know what to do if the windows in your car are sweating. Compliance with impeccable cleanliness in the passenger compartment and periodic ventilation ensure a safe and comfortable ride at any time of the year.

Misted windows bring a lot of inconvenience to car owners. The visibility of the road is impaired and the risk of an accident increases. Most often, people face similar problems in rainy weather and in winter. To relieve drivers of headaches, many manufacturers began to produce cars with a heated glass function. However, most of the vehicle owners are still forced to solve problems on their own.

Clouded glass, on which condensation accumulates, is far from always the result of a change in the weather or the fact that a drunken passenger is in the cabin. There are many other factors that can be eliminated to improve visibility.

Reasons for fogging car windows

Of course, the most obvious reason is condensation. When the air temperature is very different from the temperature inside the car, water droplets are formed and deposited on the surface of the glass. They sweat. Also, the deterioration of visibility can be affected by:

  • Increase of humidity in the car interior. When in rainy weather, people get into the car in wet clothes and turn on the stove, this leads to rapid evaporation of moisture, which settles on the surface of the windshield and side windows.
  • Hammered cabin filter... If this device stops absorbing moisture and dust in the required volume, then condensation will also form on the glasses.
  • Defective clean air valve. If the dampers of the sensor stop functioning in normal mode, then the circulation of air flows in the passenger compartment of the car is disturbed.

Also, the problem may lie in the system, which is responsible for a kind of drainage in the car. If the holes for removing excess water are clogged with foliage and dirt, then this often provokes perspiration on the glass.

As a rule, solving technical problems in a car helps to get rid of fogging of the car windows. But, sometimes the car owner simply has no time to engage in diagnostics or the reasons for the appearance of perspiration are associated with other factors. In this case, you need to follow the recommendations that will help solve the problem.

  • Sit in the car only with clean shoes so as not to introduce excess dampness into the passenger compartment. Anyone who has ever sat down in a car in winter or during a heavy rain is well aware that it is simply impossible to completely clean boots in such a situation. The only way is to wear galoshes or shoe covers on the street. Agree, few people want to become such a "mod" and even more so to offer such solutions to car passengers.
  • Use rubber mats. They collect all the water from the boots, which can be easily poured onto the street. These funds more protect the bottom of the car from corrosion. However, while the car enthusiast waits for the snow on the boot tread to melt and drain onto the mat, moisture will evaporate and settle on the windows. Therefore, this also does not help to fully solve the problem.
  • Setting up the stove and ventilation. When it is humid outside, many advise you to simply switch the standard car fan to the air circulation mode, which, as it is believed, after numerous runs through the stove, will become much drier. However, in practice, such manipulations with recirculation of air flows lead to even more fogging.

  • Use of salt. Some craftsmen, having read that salt absorbs moisture well, begin to diligently rub glass with it, especially in winter. Of course, this component dissolves snow well and absorbs liquid, but do not forget about the abrasive properties of salt. If you start rubbing the glass with it, then small scratches will remain on them, which will only lead to their greater pollution and wear.

There is no point in wasting time on the methods described above. Better to get rid of excess moisture build-up using more effective methods.

How to get rid of perspiration

First of all, it is worth replacing the cabin filter. Drivers rarely think that the service life of this element is no more than 20,000 km. Experts recommend buying new activated carbon filters. Such products perfectly clean the air and do not allow chemical vapors to enter the interior.

Other helpful tips to consider are:

  • There should always be clean soft napkins in the car interior. If the windows are suddenly fogged up and there is no time to search for the root cause of perspiration, then you can clean the glass from the inside and direct a fan at them. This will help to temporarily fix the problem.

  • Works with the trunk. First of all, it is worth removing all wet things from the luggage compartment and generally making it a rule not to litter it. Also, some car owners cut small openings in the side trim and cover them with plastic grilles. Such a cardinal measure allows to improve air exchange in the car interior.
  • Bonnet grill. If snow or dirt accumulates on it, then you should not be lazy to clean this part before each trip.
  • Warming up. Before you start driving, especially in winter, it is recommended to first warm up the vehicle interior a little. This should be done gradually so as not to create sharp temperature changes. It is best to direct the heating to all glasses and turn it on to medium mode.

Sometimes there is no time for such manipulations. In this case, some turn on the stove to a full and get not the most best result... To quickly get rid of perspiration, it is recommended to use special formulations.

Specialized anti-fogging

The easiest way to get special liquid and spray it on car glass. The cost of the anti-fogging agent ranges from 80 to 600 rubles, depending on the composition of the product. The cheapest drugs use glycerin. However, this liquid leaves rainbow smudges on the glass.

It is better to give preference to mastic-based anti-fogging agents. They are more expensive, but much more efficient. After covering the surface with such a product, water droplets will literally repel from it. The actions of such trains are enough for several trips (up to 72 hours).

Important! This type of fluids will only work when applied to clean, dry surfaces. Spraying an anti-fogging agent on a fogged glass will not change anything.

In winter, it is more rational to use various anti-freeze and anti-ice. They can not only be poured into glass washers, but also sprayed onto the windows from the inside of the passenger compartment. These liquids contain alcohol, which keeps surfaces clean for longer.

Some people make their own anti-fogging agents. To do this, it is enough to mix 20 parts of pharmacy alcohol and one part of glycerin. The resulting mixture is poured into a spray bottle and applied to glass.

There are other methods, using the cheapest remedies, to help you forget about perspiration.

If there is no specialized liquid nearby, then you can temporarily solve the problem with the help of:

  • Shaving foam. The composition is applied in a thin layer to glass and wiped with a clean cloth.
  • Lemon. For this method, you need to cut the fruit and rub it with glass pulp. After that, the surfaces are wiped with a soft cloth.
  • Salt. If you use this component correctly, you can achieve a good effect. It is enough to fill a few paper bags with salt and place them next to the glasses.
  • Newspapers. This "grandfather" tool helps to temporarily clean the glass and prevent the formation of condensation. It is enough just to wipe the windows with thin paper.
  • Soaps. With it, you need to draw small squares at the four corners of the glass. After that, the entire surface is wiped with a dry cloth. Thus, a thin protective film is formed on the glass, and the visibility does not deteriorate.

In custody

Most of these methods allow you to get rid of the problem for a while. However, if the glass begins to sweat with enviable regularity, then it is best to carry out a complete diagnosis of the car. As a preventive measure, it will not be superfluous to periodically ventilate the car interior, dry the upholstery, clean the rugs and drain the liquid from them in a timely manner. Sometimes moisture accumulates in the soundproofing material. So it's worth finding out everything possible reasons perspiration.

Almost all car enthusiasts are faced with the fact that the windows in the car fog up from the inside and you need to know what to do in such a situation. Sweat-covered windows significantly impair visibility and often lead to road accidents.

Even experienced transport owners do not always attach importance to this, considering that such a problem is commonplace, natural and ordinary. But it is worthwhile to establish the reasons for such a process and try to prevent them, so as not to waste time before each trip and not put yourself and passengers at risk of an accident.

Why is this happening?

Evaporation occurs on the windshield as a result of a natural phenomenon called condensation. The transformation of water droplets from a gaseous to a liquid state occurs when there is a difference in temperature and humidity inside the transport and outside. If people get into the car, the amount of moisture rises sharply, from which the windows fog up a lot.

The speed and intensity of this process depends on how cold the surface turned out to be. If the temperature is below the so-called dew point, then condensation occurs very quickly. This indicator is also influenced by other conditions:

  1. The difference in temperature in the cabin and outside - when cold and heat come into contact, condensation forms on the glass.
  2. High humidity of objects and other objects in the car. For example, in rainy weather, when the car warms up, water intensively evaporates from wet clothes, rugs, rugs, seats, etc. And it remains on the glass.
  3. Exhaled alcohol vapors from the passenger are also often the cause. After all, when you drank a little alcohol, drops of water settle on the surrounding surfaces much faster.
  4. A clogged filter, which is obliged to absorb excess moisture and dust, ceases to perform its function. As a result, an excessive amount of water remains on the glass panes.
  5. It may also indicate a malfunction of the air valve, its sensor, or the blower system dampers. Then the forced ventilation is reduced, which leads to the accumulation of moisture.
  6. If even a slight leak of antifreeze from the radiator of the stove begins, it is almost impossible to notice it without a special check. But in this case, the relative humidity increases by almost 20%, which is manifested by excessive fogging of the windows in the cabin. In this case, not only air evaporation is detected, but also an oily trace on the surface.
  7. When the seals on the car doors are old, they lose their integrity. Then during the wash vehicle some water gets inside and does not always have time to dry naturally.

What to do if car windows fog up?

When fumes are constantly observed on the windows, you need to have simple tools at hand. Choose the method that you like best:

  • Start the transport by heating it. Turn on the fan at the same time, this will significantly speed up the process.
  • You can blow the glass with warm air in any other way.
  • It is advisable to clean the surfaces of accumulated moisture before all passengers get into the cabin.
  • You can install a special device for recirculating air so that the windows in the car do not fog up.
  • Keep a suitable soft cloth on hand to quickly absorb excess moisture from the surface. Do not forget to dry it on time. For example, one dries at home, and the second you take on the road. Swap them at the end of the day.
  • Today, more convenient means have been invented in the form of special nanofilms, sprays, gels, solutions and other chemical materials that can prevent the formation of condensation on car glass by creating a protective surface.

There are also folk recipes:

  1. Use shaving foam. It needs to be applied quite a bit on the inside of the glass and wiped with a rag.
  2. The edible salt in paper bags is laid out on the bottom of the panel. If you put it under the windshield, it will quickly absorb excess moisture. Periodically they need to be changed to fresh ones.
  3. Rub the cut lemon on the windows from the inside of the cabin and pat dry with a towel.
  4. Even a simple newspaper can quickly remove condensation from the surface.
  5. In the corners, you need to draw small circles or squares with a simple soap, and then wipe windshield, thereby creating a special protective film made of soapy water.

It is also important to carry out preventive work on car care:

  • Change the cabin filter in time, clean the corresponding cavity, sump and drain hole. This is recommended when changing seasons, for example, in autumn and spring. With less intensive use - once a year.
  • To prevent excessive accumulation of condensation in the cabin, you need to periodically dry all carpets and seats. It is also undesirable to keep a large number of fabrics, bedspreads, rugs so that they do not absorb moisture.
  • To improve ventilation, periodically check the operation of valves and other airflow systems. Sometimes you can open windows or doors to ventilate the cabin.

How to remove fogging when it rains?

This problem often worries motorists during the rainy season. To quickly cope with excess vapors, you need to adhere to the following rules:

  • ventilate the salon often;
  • heat it up with a fan;
  • do not leave wet things inside for a long time;
  • after each ride, dry the seats and other wet objects, avoid puddles on the rubber mat, wipe it down;
  • monitor the operation of ventilation systems, fix breakdowns as soon as possible.

In the rain, this trick will also help. While you are driving somewhere, you can slightly lower the side window, and when the car is in the garage, it will not be superfluous to open the doors to let in more fresh air inside.

How to get rid of the problem in the winter season?

Even more acute fogging of windows worries the owners of their own vehicles in the cold season. Then not only drops of excess moisture collect on the glass, but also freeze, which is why the cleaners often break if you turn them on too early.

The reasons that condensation increases during the cold season are as follows:

  1. Glasses without heating quickly reach low temperatures, which are well below the dew point. This increases the warm-up time.
  2. If the air humidity is high, or in rainy or snowy weather, too much water gets into the passenger compartment. When it accumulates, then when the stove is turned on, evaporation and condensation form quickly.
  3. Even when the car is moving, the glass is constantly cooled by the oncoming air currents. Therefore, it is rather difficult to maintain the surface temperature at a certain level.

The best ways to deal with the problem.

Good afternoon. In today's post, I will tell you why the windows fog up in the car, consider the mechanism of condensation formation, an algorithm for troubleshooting that leads to condensation and give folk methods of dealing with condensation. The ones given by me will allow you to quickly determine the malfunction and get to the place of repair, even with a faulty heater.

How does condensation form on glass?

If you had a chance to walk in the early morning in late summer - early autumn, you could observe dew on the grass. Dew is the same condensation.

The scheme of its formation is as follows - atmospheric moisture is deposited on the surface with a temperature below the dew point.

The temperature-humidity graph of dew fallout looks like this:

Now let's imagine a car interior with passengers in the rain or in winter.

A person exhales water vapor in large quantities. In winter, this is clearly visible:

Naturally, when the car is not moving (or when the ventilation system is not working), the amount of water vapor in the cabin air will increase.

When the outside temperature drops, the inner surface of the glass inevitably becomes a place of moisture condensation, since its temperature is below the dew point.

If the heater is in good working order, it constantly renews the air in the passenger compartment, dries it and maintains the temperature on the glass surface above the dew point. Thus, for a working system interior ventilation glass does not fog up.

Why does the glass fog up?

The reason has already been mentioned above - the glasses fog up, since the humidity is above the dew point, and the temperature on the glass surface is below the condensation point.

Pay attention - when you approach the car in the morning, its windows fog up and freeze from the outside, and if you turn off the heater when driving in the cold season, the windows will fog up and freeze from the inside.

Let us examine the reasons for the increase in humidity in the cabin, and as a result of the fogging of the windows (given in terms of prevalence).

Clogged pollen filter.

For everyone modern cars a cabin air filter is installed. It is located in the heater and looks something like this:

Over time, the cabin filter becomes clogged and the passage of air through it becomes difficult. Accordingly, the air renewal in the passenger compartment slows down and the humidity rises.

Symptoms of a clogged cabin filter:

  • Weak air flow in all operating modes of the heater
  • Overhead hum of the cabin heater engine
  • The glasses are sweaty directly at the blowing points.

In general, the cabin filter is changed once a season.

Ingress of water into the salon.

It is also a very common reason for the fogging of windows.

The interior water constantly evaporates and increases the humidity in the passenger compartment.

With such a malfunction, you will definitely easily find what will get wet, but not the fact that you will easily and quickly find the cause of the water ingress.

As a rule, with such a malfunction, the windshield and the top of the front side windows do not fog up, but the rear (without heating), and the side windows are covered with rather large drops of water.

The repair is carried out simply - we are looking for where the water enters the salon, we remove it, and we dry it.

Antifreeze is much more dangerous than water. It is unhealthy!

The ingress of antifreeze into the passenger compartment is manifested in the same way as the ingress of water, but there is a fundamental difference - the glass fogs up more, incl. and frontal.

You can distinguish water from antifreeze by the sweetish taste in the mouth and the damp passenger floor.

Repair is simple - we look for a leak (radiator, taps or pipes) and replace damaged parts.

Here is an example of a cabin heater radiator soaking up, because of which my glass fogged up and froze in my car.

  1. Heat the air in the passenger compartment. To warm up the air in the cabin, you must turn on all the available devices: rear window heating, heater, air conditioning, recirculation system, blowing.
  2. Dry the rugs if they are made of rags. If rubber, it is easier to drain the water from them and wipe dry.
  3. Dry the soundproofing.
  4. Ventilate when the car is stationary.
  5. Upon arrival at your destination, open the door for a couple of tens of seconds so that the temperature inside and outside does not differ much.

Today, there are ways to prevent fogging of car windows. There are two methods:

  • stick on a protective film (anti-fog);
  • use folk or chemical means to protect against moisture (car window defoggers).

Anti-fog films for car windows

A novelty in the field of protecting glass from moisture is a specially designed anti-fog film. The same film is applied to motorcycle helmets. Using this method, you do not have to often use chemicals. Such a film perfectly fulfills its functions and, moreover, is durable.

The use of anti-fog films, in addition to protecting against moisture, also strengthens the glass, also protects against infrared and ultraviolet rays.

Anti-fogging chemicals in the car

The auto chemistry industry is not stagnating, with new anti-fogging for auto glass constantly appearing to protect against moisture build-up. The disadvantage of using a chemical anti-fogging agent is that the special liquid can be "thermonuclear" with a terrible smell, as in the case of non-freezing liquids with a smell.

How to use an anti-fogger

  1. The first step is to thoroughly wash and wipe the glass of the car.
  2. Then you need to shake up the chemical liquid.
  3. The application of a chemical solution, depending on the design of the package, is carried out by spraying or with a napkin, a cloth.
  4. Now you have to wait 30 minutes. Do not touch or wipe with your hands.
  5. When the anti-sweat is dry, the glass should not be touched either.
If it happened that the anti-fogging agent was applied correctly, but the windows in the car are still sweating, then this is for two reasons:
  • or you got a fake liquid;
  • or the applied layer has been washed off or wiped off by hand.

To protect yourself from acquiring a fake, it is advisable to buy the product in specialized large stores. On the track, as in the case of antifreeze, antifreeze and anti-freeze, there are a lot of fakes.

Consider the most popular anti-fogging car windows in Russia and the CIS countries:

These funds were tested at the same time. And the result was checked with a light transmission device (luxmeter) through the glass.

  • # 1. The best anti-fogging agents for auto chemicals were the German Sonax and the English Karplan. The level of light transmission after using them decreased by 8%, that is, the minimum humidity, which almost did not impair visibility.
  • # 2. The second in this rating test came out Russian Sintec and American Abro. They reduced visibility by 12%.
  • No. 3. On the third also Russian production Wells and Eltrans. They darkened the visibility by 21%.

Folk remedies for anti-fogging of auto glass

Folk remedies help to protect against the formation of moisture on the glass from the inside. According to reviews of drivers who have used certain folk remedies.

So, with what folk remedies to rub the glass so that you do not sweat:

  1. Lemon. Using lemon, namely rubbing the glass and wiping it dry with a clean cloth, the glass from the inside will keep dry for a long time.
  2. Toothpaste. Perfect if the composition contains menthol. Rub and wipe dry with a rag. Do not rinse with water. Headlights are protected in the same way.
  3. Shaving cream. Also, as in the case of toothpaste, if there is a refreshing component in the composition, for example, menthol, then this tool will perfectly protect against moisture.
  4. Coffee. They do not need to rub. It must be placed in an open dish and it will absorb moisture from the air.
  5. Newspaper. The principle of using the newspaper is the same as with coffee. Simply put on the front on the dashboard and on the back on the shelf in front of the window. Will absorb moisture from the air. The easy way.
  6. Diaper. Used to absorb moisture. It is enough to open it and put it next to the window.
  7. Potato. Rubbing potatoes will create a protective starch film for a while.
  8. Salt. Also, the moisture-absorbing element cannot be rubbed with it.

Output

As the saying goes: the best defense is offense. In this case, it is better to do the procedures in advance, since even though I use a film, even a liquid means - it all takes time.

You should also pay attention to the condition of carpets, interior trim. If wet, wash and dry. Monitor the condition of the air filter periodically.
