The main element of the ventilation, air conditioning and heating system of the interior of any car is the stove radiator. Sometimes it fails. The reasons for this can be very different - from the unsuccessful design of the system itself to the poor quality of seals and coolant.

The device and principle of operation of the stove radiator

The heating system is designed to provide interior ventilation, while maintaining a comfortable microclimate in it. This is very important for the driver and passengers, especially in winter. The device and principle of operation of heaters in most cars are the same.

The principle of the interior heating system is the same for most cars.

The system operates as follows. The fan (6) supplies air from the street or, if recirculation mode is on, from the passenger compartment. The air flow is cleaned by the cabin filter (3), distributed by the mixing flap (2) and partially passes through the radiator (5), where it heats up. The other part of the stream goes directly. Heated and cold air are mixed and distributed by the flap (7), providing interior ventilation. The temperature is regulated by changing the position of the baffle (2). With the help of a damper (7), the flow is distributed throughout the cabin - air is supplied to the legs, to the windshield and side windows, etc. The radiator (5) transfers heat from the antifreeze heated in the cooling system to the air flow passing through its honeycomb. The circulation of the coolant (coolant) through the pipes of the heat exchanger is carried out forcibly using a water pump.

Peugeot 307/308 stove features

In a Peugeot 307/308, the heater and air conditioner are located in the same housing. This is convenient, since both devices use the same air ducts - the stove heats up, and the air conditioner cools the air entering the passenger compartment. The heating system consists of the following elements:

  1. Windshield blower ducts.
  2. Dampers that distribute the air flow to the windshield and dashboard vents.
  3. Air ducts that direct air to the dashboard.
  4. Tubes that direct air to the leg area.
  5. A damper that distributes the air flow between the dashboard (chest area) and the lower deflectors (leg area).
  6. Stove radiator.
  7. Cabin air filter.
  8. A damper that controls recirculation and incoming external flow.
  9. External air inlet.
  10. Air intake from the passenger compartment for recirculation.
  11. Fan impeller.
  12. Fan motor.
  13. Air conditioner evaporator.
  14. Drainage for draining condensate from the evaporator.
  15. Thermostatic damper.
  16. Ventilation, heating and air conditioning unit housing.

In the Peugeot 307/308, the heater and air conditioner are located in the same housing.

The fan has several modes of operation with different intensity of the incoming air flow. The rotation speed of the electric motor is changed by a block of resistors included in the fan supply circuit. By changing the position of the thermostatic flap (3), a comfortable temperature in the passenger compartment is achieved. Another flap (2) distributes the air flow between the windscreen and the dashboard. The airflow direction can be precisely adjusted using the deflectors located on the panel. Blue arrows indicate cold air, red - hot air.

The heater radiator is located behind the front panel. It can be accessed from the side from the driver's seat. You can remove the radiator without dismantling the dashboard.

Removing the radiator does not require removing the front panel

Heating and air conditioning control

Cabin climate controls are located on the center panel between the driver's and passenger's seats. The control unit itself is quite simple and ergonomic, so it will not be difficult to set a comfortable temperature, intensity and direction of air flows.

Management is carried out by the following elements:

  1. Air flow direction regulator.
  2. Button for turning on the air recirculation mode.
  3. Rear window heating button.
  4. Air temperature regulator.
  5. Fan speed switch.

The control unit for heating and air conditioning of the Peugeot 307/308 passenger compartment is quite simple and ergonomic

Heater malfunctions and ways to eliminate them

The stove may stop working for various reasons. The cause of its failure may be a malfunction of any element of the heating system.

If, when the fan is turned on, air does not enter the passenger compartment, it is faulty. This can happen when:

  • failure of the fan speed switch;
  • fuse failure in the motor power supply circuit;
  • problems with the windings or rotary brushes of the electric motor.

Finding the cause of a motor malfunction is not that difficult. Using a multimeter, you can easily identify a short circuit or open circuit, the presence or absence of a voltage of 12 volts at the contacts.

Severe frost can also break the damper that distributes warm air flows. In addition, a low air flow rate can be caused by a heavily soiled pollen filter. In this case, the filter must be replaced.

Weak interior heating

If the radiator of the stove does not give off enough heat to the air passing through it, the temperature in the cabin will be low. The main reasons for this situation:

  • lack of antifreeze in the cooling system;
  • stove radiator leak;
  • clogging of the stove radiator tubes;
  • formation in the radiator airlock;
  • faulty thermostat valve.

Low interior temperatures can be caused by a lack of coolant in the cooling system. Therefore, first of all, you should check the level of antifreeze in the expansion tank and, if necessary, top up coolant.

The reason for the low temperature in the cabin may be a lack of antifreeze in the cooling system.

Another reason for poor air heating can be a coolant leak from the radiator of the stove as a result of mechanical damage or a leakage of the connections of the inlet or outlet pipes. In this case, a puddle of antifreeze forms under the driver's seat mat and on it, and bad smell... However, a faulty radiator in the cooling system can also cause a coolant leak.

Low interior temperatures are often caused by clogged radiator pipes. The problem can sometimes be solved by cleaning and rinsing the device. If this does not help, the radiator is replaced with a new one.

With a prolonged lack of coolant in the system, an air lock can occur. A faulty expansion tank cap valve can also cause air to enter the radiator. As a result, the normal circulation of antifreeze in the heating system is disrupted, and the air in the passenger compartment cannot be heated to a comfortable temperature. The air lock is removed by means of the thermostat valve of the cooling system.

If the thermostat valve is faulty, the antifreeze will circulate only along the large cooling circuit, which will become impossible to close. Therefore, after starting the engine, you will have to wait a long time until all the liquid in the cooling system heats up. This problem is solved by replacing the thermostat.

Replacing the heater radiator

With all the variety of malfunctions of the heating system, most often the reason for its incorrect functioning is the failure of the stove radiator. Limescale and deposits resulting from the use of low-quality coolant gradually clog its pipes. The radiator must be dismantled to clean, flush or replace.

Removing the radiator

To remove and replace the radiator of the Peugeot 307/308 stove, you will need:

  • new sealing rings for radiator pipes;
  • slotted and Phillips screwdrivers;
  • a set of wrenches and caps;
  • pliers;
  • a container for draining antifreeze with a volume of about two liters.

Dismantle the radiator as follows.

  1. Three fastening screws are unscrewed and the side wall of the center panel from the driver's side is removed.

    To remove the side wall, unscrew the three fastening screws

  2. The radiator cap fittings are disconnected from the inlet and outlet pipes supplying antifreeze. The screws for securing the branch pipes are unscrewed.

    To disconnect the pipes, you need to free them from the fastening bolts and screws

  3. Coolant is carefully drained from the pipes into an empty container. The expansion tank cap must be tightened. In this case, 200-300 ml of antifreeze will pour out, and with an open plug - about 2 liters.

    Antifreeze should be drained with the expansion tank cap screwed on.

The radiator can then be removed from its seat for flushing or replacing.

Installing the radiator

When installing the radiator, you will need to perform several additional operations.

  1. From the side passenger seat the side wall of the central panel is removed. In cars with air conditioning, manufactured before restyling, the temperature sensor is removed from the socket.

    In order not to damage the radiator of the stove during installation, it is necessary to remove the temperature sensor from the socket

  2. New gaskets are installed instead of the old ones in the sockets of the inlet and outlet fittings of the radiator cover or on the branch pipes supplying the OD.

    It is better to first put the gaskets on the pipes - in this case it will be easier to connect them to the fittings of the radiator cap

  3. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling. The temperature sensor (if any) is installed after the radiator is installed.
  4. V expansion tank antifreeze is topped up.
  5. The air lock is removed from the cooling system. The drain bolt on the thermostat is unscrewed, then the engine starts. When antifreeze flows from under the valve, it twists.

    The air lock is removed through the drain valve of the thermostat. The drain plug of the supply pipe can be accessed from the engine compartment.

This completes the work on replacing the stove radiator.

Flushing the stove radiator

New stove heat exchangers for Peugeot 307/308 are inexpensive. However, many car owners prefer to flush the old radiator instead of replacing it. For this, a solution of citric acid is used, which removes scale and other deposits from the inner surface of the tubes well. The flushing procedure is as follows:

  1. Dissolve 100-150 g of citric acid in a bucket of cold water, stirring and heating the water until warm.
  2. A heat exchanger is placed in an empty bucket and filled with an acid solution.
  3. The radiator bucket is boiled for two hours.
  4. The radiator is rinsed with running water.
  5. As a result, most of the deposits and slag are removed from the radiator. You can also use an acetic acid solution for rinsing (a liter of acid per bucket of water).

    You can clean the radiator without placing it in the bucket. For this, 500 ml of water and 150 g of citric acid are poured into a clean kettle. The solution is brought to a boil, poured into the radiator tubes and left for 30–40 minutes. This procedure should be repeated several times, each time pouring in a freshly prepared hot solution. After that, the radiator is rinsed with water and installed on the vehicle.

    Many people use for washing such products as Coca-Cola, Fairy, Calgon, "Whiteness", "Mole", etc. However, experts do not recommend doing this because of the specific composition of these substances. There are acid and alkaline preparations specially designed for flushing radiators (including cooling systems). These include:

  • Russian LAVR Radiator Flush Classic;
  • American Hi-Gear Radiator Flush - 7 minute;
  • German LIQUI MOLY Kuhler-Reiniger and others.

"How to replace the radiator of the Peugeot 308, 408 stove

It is no secret that replacing the radiator of the stove in Peugeot, and in other cars, they begin to deal with with the onset of cold weather, when there is a need to heat the passenger compartment and dry it.

I don't see the point of specifically detecting a stove malfunction, since it will manifest itself by the lack of heat in the cabin, and you can easily understand that it is faulty by lifting your hand to the air deflector on a heated car (this is where the warm air should blow from), if instead of a hot stream of air, you find that the air is slightly warm or even cold:

  • first of all, open the hood of the car,
  • check the coolant level, if there is no antifreeze, accordingly it does not enter the stove radiator, diagnose for leaks,
  • if the level is normal, it is necessary to inspect the pipes of the stove, carefully check, they must be hot,
  • if the above is normal, then most likely your stove radiator is clogged with various deposits and oxides and should be replaced

Replacing the radiator of the stove must be done in a warm room, since it is especially pleasant to stand on your knees in front of the car in the cold, only one thing pleases that there is no need to remove the dashboard, everything changes from the driver's side at the gas pedal.

A small set of tools is required to replace the heater radiator

  • Torex for 20,
  • slotted screwdriver
  • a tray for draining antifreeze,
  • possibly an enema for pumping out antifreeze or automatic pneumatic pumping,
  • key with a head or socket for 5.5,
  • platypuses,
  • one liter of antifreeze to match the color of the one you have filled in the expansion tank.

Let's start removing the stove radiator

  • it is necessary to remove the side plastic panel, for this we need a screwdriver with a Torex for 20, the self-tapping screw is hidden behind the second plastic panel which is located along the tunnel, it is necessary to bend it and unscrew the self-tapping screw.
  • then we remove the panel that is located above all the pedals, it is removed quite simply
  • we get access to the radiator of the stove and unscrew the four self-tapping screws
  • we prepare a container for draining and pumping out antifreeze pipes

The cover of the expansion tank must be opened and closed back to release excess pressure from the cooling system

  • remove the clamping clips from the radiator pipes
  • slowly take out the nearest and longest tube from the radiator of the stove and slowly pump out all the antifreeze that flows by gravity
  • after removing all antifreeze, remove the retainer from the shorter tube
  • unscrew the self-tapping screw from the clip of the plastic fastening of the two tubes located near the gas pedal
  • move the tubes to the side and take out the stove radiator
  • install a new radiator and assemble everything in reverse order

Be careful that you operate your car, as this is very important for the interior heater, it is not recommended to mix different types coolant, otherwise, when mixed, they can foam or precipitate and leave deposits on the inner walls of the stove radiator, as well as on the entire cooling system, including the main radiator, which is located under the hood.

After all the procedures for replacing the stove radiator, it is necessary to bleed the cooling system.

  • add coolant to the expansion tank to the level
  • we unscrew the air vent on the rubber pipe of the stove in under the hood at the wall separating the interior and the engine compartment
  • having released all the air from the system, close the lid on the expansion tank
  • sit down in your beloved Peugeot car and start it
  • set the stove to the maximum temperature
  • we press the gas pedal for about 3 thousand revolutions
  • we warm up the car and feel the heating of the air at the deflectors with our own hands
  • if the air does not warm up enough, we increase the engine speed, so that the pump would squeeze out all the air from the radiator of the stove
  • after the hot air has gone from the heater, we check the level of antifreeze in the expansion tank

Peugeot cars are quite popular among many people all over the world. First of all, this is due to the fact that vehicles differ from this automobile concern in reliability, beautiful design, functionality. At the same time, the owners of Peugeot are still faced with the need to repair the car. This does not mean that vehicles are unreliable. This question is about scheduled maintenance or repairs due to the fact that the car was not operated correctly. One of the most common types of renovation works is a replacement Peugeot radiator... Note that repairs can be done by yourself. To do this, you need to understand the technical component of the car.

What to do if the stove in the car does not work?
Antifreeze is leaving the expansion tank - the reasons and how to eliminate them Replacing coolant, antifreeze or antifreeze
Car engine cooling system, principle of operation, malfunctions The engine is heating up, the reasons for the engine overheating
The stove blows badly in the car - what to do

According to an unwritten law, all problems with the cabin heater appear only in the most severe frost, or, at least, with the arrival of winter. If the stove on the Peugeot 308 does not work, you need to consider all the reasons and eliminate them as soon as possible. There are many reasons, so let's get down to business without delay.

The stove does not work on the Peugeot 308: we are looking for air supply

Warm air does not always enter the passenger compartment due to a breakdown of the stove.

Consider the case when warm air simply does not enter the passenger compartment, and we will deal with the heater itself later. The lack of warm air can be caused by several reasons.

Stove motor does not work

Stove motor not working.

The most commonplace - stove motor does not work ... You can hear it right away, and theoretically it can be easily eliminated. Stove fan fuse may blow. It is located in the engine compartment fuse box with a rating of 40 A, designated F1. If the fuse burns out systematically, it is necessary to replace the heater motor, in addition, the stove motor switch may fail. It is checked by the method of ringing out with a multimeter.

Damper failure

Dampers on dual-zone climate control

If the motor operates normally at all speeds, it is possible that one or more air supply dampers are out of order ... The front damper (or dampers on dual-zone climate controls), which distributes the flow of warm air, breaks down most often due to the fact that it is made of not the most durable and high-quality plastic.

In the cold, it stiffens and, when triggered, wedges or breaks, respectively, air supply is impossible.

In this case, the prospect is not very bright, since without dismantling the front panel to the last screw , you will not be able to get to the damper. Previously, the damper itself was not part of the spare parts and it was necessary to collective farm the broken damper with adhesives, bandages and clamps. Today it goes on sale under the code 16070-440-80. Dampers can be purchased for both single-zone climate control and dual-zone.

The officials do not undertake the replacement of the dampers and suggest replacing the heater assembly.

Cabin filter

We take out the old cabin filter and change to a new one

The air supply with the operating motor of the heater and the working dampers may be absent or weak due to the fault of the cabin filter.

If it is clogged, there can be no question of any warm air, it simply has nowhere to come from. It's easy to check. , the heater turns on. If the air goes out, we change the cabin filter and enjoy the warmth in the cabin.

Antifreeze, air locks and drips of the interior heating system on the Peugeot 308

The situation when the stove blows well, but the temperature of the supplied air is below normal or the air is completely cold, first of all we are looking for the reason in the state of the coolant.

We check the system in the following sequence:

  1. Checking the level of antifreeze in the expansion tank ... At a low liquid level, it may simply not completely fill the heater radiator, as a result, it will not warm up and warm up the air. We add antifreeze to the maximum mark, and the same brand that is filled in the system, in extreme cases, distilled water.

    Add antifreeze to the system to the maximum level

  2. Antifreeze leaks can be a pretty serious problem. ... If the liquid level in the expansion tank drops, it is necessary to carefully examine all the couplings of the hoses and nozzles, and in addition, look at the oil level - there is a possibility that the antifreeze goes into the crankcase. In this case, the oil level will rise, and on the dipstick we will see a gray-brown emulsion. Then it is necessary to take urgent measures (finding the leak, replacing the head gasket, changing the oil and filter, flushing the lubrication and cooling systems).

    Check the oil level with the dipstick

  3. Airlock ... A fairly common breakdown when the owner missed a low level of antifreeze and the system trapped air. Also, a plug may appear due to incorrect assembly or refueling of the cooling system. It is not uncommon for air to enter the cooling system due to vacuum caused by a malfunction of the expansion tank plug valve.

    Replace the faulty expansion tank plug valve

More about airlock

The air lock prevents the liquid from circulating, as a result of which the heated antifreeze may not enter the heater radiator.

We turn the drain valve to the desired position

To remove the air lock, a liquid drain valve is installed on the thermostat. It turns to a certain position, after which pressure is supplied to the expansion tank in any way possible. Air will escape through the valve, however, some antifreeze may be lost.

We are looking for the cause in the thermostat and heater radiator

Like the heater radiator itself, the thermostat can cause poor circulation of warm air in the cabin.

If thermostat defective (the thermal valve does not work), it does not allow the antifreeze to circulate in a small circle, bypassing the main radiator of the cooling system. As a result, the liquid cannot warm up to the desired temperature. It is easy to track it by the antifreeze temperature gauge or check the radiator pipe with your hand - if it is warm, the thermostat did not close the valve.

We will replace the old thermostat with a new one

Clogged cooling system radiator

However, the most common reason for a non-working stove on a Peugeot 308 is itself heater radiator .

If in the summer period a clogged radiator of the cooling system is calculated by overheating, then in winter such a fate may well await the radiator of the stove.

He too clogged with silicates from low-quality or worn-out antifreeze, scale. As a result, its throughput drops sharply and it cannot provide heating of the passenger compartment. Here you can go in two ways - flushing the entire cooling system, but local flushing of the stove radiator will be more effective.

Briefly about flushing the radiator

This requires draining the antifreeze, dismantling and flushing the radiator. It is easy to get to it through the removed cover near the gas pedal. After removing the heater radiator, it is blown with compressed air, washed with special descaling agents while heating it with a hot air gun. After several cycles of flushing, at least 100 ml of liquid must be placed in the radiator, and air must flow freely.

We use liquid to flush the radiator.

After these operations, the stove will warm up like new, good and good roads to all!
