Many users of this car are not aware that they have such a system that allows you to reduce body roll in corners and increase suspension travel when off-road. After all, all its components are located at the bottom of the car, and it does not have control keys either, i.e. it works in automatic mode.
To tell the truth, such machines are not often repaired by definition, reliable, and we do not do maintenance, only repair electronic systems, so we ourselves had to study how it works. The system is a closed hydraulic circuit with valves and hydraulic struts that control both stabilizers lateral stability... The video shows the system in action.

But unfortunately, the day comes when she makes itself felt - on dashboard its malfunction lamp lights up - KDSS.
The valve block body is made of silumin, and under the influence of reagents from the road, it starts to corrode, the surface becomes uneven, and the sealing gum that protects the "electronic" part becomes powerless to moisture penetration.

All this bandura is, in theory, non-separable, sealed from the factory, and is now being sold at a price of 85tr. + Further fluid replacement and pumping of the system. I think it will be over a hundred.
So why not repair it) In general, everything worked out, restored the valve leads, removed the rotten connector, I had to solder a little, of course, everything was sealed and took measures so that this did not happen again, protected from direct ingress of dirt and water.

KDSS

Like all genius, KDSS is pretty simple. Liquid circulates in a closed loop with accumulators, valves and sensors, passing through two hydraulic cylinders connecting the anti-roll bars to the body. If the car is driving on a flat highway, all system valves are closed, and fluid loses the ability to move freely through the system. The pistons of the hydraulic cylinders are locked, and the stabilizers are rigidly connected to the body, which as a result prevents roll when cornering. When the car hits the broken asphalt, the accumulator valves open, compensating for the sudden changes in fluid pressure, which significantly reduces body vibrations.

On the off-road, the electronics turn off the stabilizers altogether. All valves are open, the pistons inside the cylinders are completely free, and the suspension is able to make maximum strokes, providing the best possible grip.

The driver does not have to go into the details of how the system works. He does not even need to bother switching modes - the electronic control unit itself knows what and when to do it. Those who had the opportunity to compare the behavior of cars with and without KDSS, unanimously declare that the system, they say, allows you to feel much more confident both off-road and on a good road. And there is nothing to say about turns: in a sharp bend and at a good speed, the help of hydraulics that supports the body in a horizontal position can be simply invaluable.

Developed in 2004, the system is highly reliable. As a rule, the owners of KDSS cars have no complaints about its work. You just need to remember to change the fluid after 60–80 thousand km and check the pressure balance, but certainly from dealers who have special equipment and qualified personnel for this. Otherwise, the system will simply stop “feeling the way”.

When it comes to safety, you shouldn't be trifling with trifles. Even a tangible, as it may seem at first, overpayment, in fact, is not such extravagance. The difference in price between Prado-Comfort without KDSS and the Elegance version equipped with it is considerable - 203 thousand rubles. However, this amount includes a lot of other options, without which the luxury SUV looks like an impoverished graph - xenon headlights, sill lights, roof rails, parking sensors, a rear-view camera, rain and light sensors, heated and electrically adjustable seats and much more.

The electronically controlled system of kinetic stabilization of the suspension for an off-road vehicle is useful and necessary. What is KDSS

The KDSS system on the Prado 150 is a kinetic stabilizer that ensures smooth movement and stability off paved roads. In simple words - stabilization of the suspension in off-road mode. It minimizes roll when cornering, making the ride as safe as possible.

KDSS is represented by a hydraulic device, controlled by electronics. As soon as the sensors give a signal about a change in the road surface, the system instantly rebuilds to suit the new conditions.

Structure:

  • 1 hydraulic cylinder located in the front and rear stabilizer;
  • 2 hydraulic circuits connecting the spaces of the hydraulic cylinders;
  • hydraulic cylinders to support the front and rear stabilizer.

When the machine is tilted, the KDSS stabilizes its position, which prevents it from tipping over. During off-road driving, the pistons begin to move freely towards each other.

Reliability, malfunction and repair

KDSS is reliable, but it has a number of features. On vehicles with the system, a defect was detected, which consists in a leak in the installation. Due to the accumulation of condensation on the dashboard, the malfunction icon lights up, the vehicle's controllability is sharply reduced, the device does not work properly. Code C1851 must mean that the sensor reading corresponds to a pressure not exceeding 0.9 MPa (9.2 kgf / cm 2, 130 psi).

Corrosion is found on the unit. Moisture gets on it from under the control valve body. After a while, corrosion destroys the entire device.

If there is KDSS on the Prado 150 and the indicator is on, what to do in this case, every driver should know. It is necessary to check for condensation and remove it. The reason for the error is in it, so the light came on.

To prevent breakage, lead the valve connector outward, additionally treat the block with a sealant. The usual procedure will protect against damage to the sensor.

Block replacement

If KDSS breaks down on Prado 150, repair is required. When condensate gets on the unit, corrosion appears, as a result of which it breaks. This is one of the common problems.


Oil seeps through the rotten metal. When such a block is disassembled, it breaks down and cannot be restored.

Whatever they say, but there are people whom the KDSS system apparently got, and there are craftsmen who amputate this system.

Here is the report of one rugged man from the city of Krasnoyarsk.

The beginning of the year was marked by the end of the warranty for my restyled Prado. The day before, I made TO-60 with the replacement of stabilizer bushings in a circle. A week after the end of the warranty, a knock appeared and began to intensify rear suspension, after 10 days it became unbearable. Knowing about the problems in the reliability of KDSS (especially on restyling), in the hope that the shock absorber or some kind of silent block is jammed, I drive the car into a hole, the assistants swing the car while standing on the footrests, I find out with horror that it knocks rear cylinder KDSS. I am going to the dealer to bow, after inspection, the dealer declares that it is necessary to replace both cylinders even if the front one is in good working order, they have the following regulations. They announce the price of spare parts, replacement work, fluid injection and calibration ... the amount is about 150,000. I had to think about it. I know a person who changed 5200 mileage cylinders under warranty for the first time, and then two more times during the warranty period. The fact that Toyota knows about this sore, remade the cylinders three times, there were different part numbers of the cylinders, and without defeating the problem, Toyota chose to remove this system from the new cars of the main trim line, leaving it only at maximum speed. Therefore, I decided to remove this system. I have nothing against KDSS, the idea is good, but its reliability, coupled with the cost of replacement, has given it a verdict.

I ordered all the components at Avtodok, the most expensive parts are stabilizers. Before including them in the order, I rummaged through Avito and found what I was looking for in a new condition, original and for half the price. A man for himself mistakenly ordered stubs for a car with KDSS, but the usual ones came, he got rid of them with pleasure, I bought with pleasure. The rest of the small fasteners - ordered.
Next, I wanted to see how everything assembled looks like live on a factory-equipped machine with such stubs, I wanted to take the dimensions for the installation locations of the welded brackets and clarify the dimensions of the brackets, the drawings of which were laid out by the person earlier. I was more interested in the rear axle.
