It is very difficult to assess which car is in GTA Online the fastest. Fast at what, in a short drag race? Circular with corners? The one with the highest maximum speed? Backward, J-turn, and acceleration up to 60 mph?
There are many ways in which you can measure speed, but for this article I have focused on two - lap time and maximum speed. Below are the five fastest cars to race on a standard ring in GTA Online (where handbrake control, cutting corners and acceleration affect the speed of the lap). Then the five fastest cars in a straight line race (where they all hit their maximum speed).
If we compare cars in these two metrics, we can roughly determine which car is the fastest in GTA Online. The following results are from detailed and scientific testing I have done on this YouTube channel. You can look at the docs with lap times and maximum speed for a better understanding of my methodology.
This article was updated in March 2018 to keep up with the changes to The Doomsday Heist DLC, and only focuses on the Supercars that can be raced. The only exceptions are Rocket Voltic, Vifilante and Pariah from the Sport class. From the data above, you can figure out which car you need for circuit racing with a lot of corners, and which one for racing in a straight line at speed. But the best in one situation is not necessarily the best in another. For example, Tempesta and Zentorno are ranked quite low in the list of fastest supercars (26th and 20th respectively), despite the fact that they are in the top six in circuit races. Also, 811 and Banshee 900R show themselves poorly in the round robin (24th and 30th places), but they are leaders in maximum speed.
So what if you only want one car that fits every situation? The car is a jack of all trades to buy and use everywhere. Well, according to the results, there is only one candidate - a car that is in the top six there and there: the Dewbauchee Vagner.
When looking at lap times, there was almost a second difference between the Tempesta at 5 and the Autarch at 4. For a track that is only a minute long, this is essential. Especially considering that the difference between Vagner at # 1 and Autarch at # 4 is also almost a second. So let's take a look at the Big Four and see why Vagner dominated so confidently.
