We asked logical questions: how will an increase in the disc diameter affect the sprung masses and, accordingly, the suspension resource; whether additional tests were carried out, during which the engineers made a decision to upgrade the units, or did the tests show that the increase in dimension would not affect the condition of the "walker" in any way.

These questions were sent to the press service of the car plant. Have been posted twice. But after five days we did not receive any answer. Therefore, we decided to cite the opinion of experts-observers of "Kolesa.ru" and ask you, our readers, what do you think about this.

Currently, the maximum dimension of wheels available for equipping Vesta is 195/55 R16. At the Lada stand, a sedan on 17 discs "shod" in Michelin 205/50 tires was exhibited.


However, in the official images, the Vesta Exclusive is equipped with 17-inch wheels, but with 225/50 Hankook tires. We assume that the tire size of the serial Vesta in the new modification will be 205/50.

Now directly to the comments of our experts.

Losses in dynamics, comfort and efficiency are mainly associated with an increase in the mass of the wheels, if the increase is minimal, then the negative consequences will be insignificant. The increased price of rims and rubber is in any case compensated for at the expense of the buyer. But whether AVTOVAZ will reconfigure the suspension taking into account changes in the elastic characteristics of the wheels and their mass is a big question.

Today Vesta has a very well-designed suspension in terms of balance of driving performance. Time and tests will show whether the car will retain its advantages in the form of a very successful combination of smoothness and handling.


But low-profile tires are not always good. Almost any bump is a "hernia" or through damage, sometimes - a violation of the geometry of the disc followed by rolling (which also does not benefit the disc).

Now let us consider the situation when the diameter of the entire wheel grows with an increase in the diameter of the disc.

This will affect many parameters at once: overclocking, maximum speed, braking, fuel consumption. The speedometer will begin to "lie" a little more, however, it is not critical. In short, all parameters will become worse, only the maximum speed can grow a little. And the clearance will be higher. Otherwise, everything is much sadder: the car will accelerate worse, and it will be noticeable.

In 2016, AvtoVAZ announced the creation Lada Vesta and Lada xray in exclusive versions. The first cars were presented at the auto show Lada "Exclusive"... The innovation of the models is 17-inch wheels. To date, such wheels are already being actively installed on Lada Xray, but Vesta is still content with only 16 inches.

In light of these events, a reasonable question arises: how will an increase in wheel diameter affect the car's suspension? AvtoVAZ does not answer this question. Let's try to figure it out on our own.

Maximum allowable size wheels for Lada Vesta - 195/55 R16.
Vesta was presented at the motor show with Hankook 225/50 tires. Presumably the size of Vesta Exclusive wheels will be 205/50.

As a rule, increasing the size of the disk has a positive effect on manageability. This happens by reducing the sideways compliance of the wheel. The volume of the braking mechanism also increases.
By increasing the diameter of the disc on Vesta, the engineers most likely wanted to add “sharpness” to the control system.

It should be remembered that with an increase in mass wheel rims dynamics is lost. If the changes in dimension are insignificant, as in our case, then the consequences are almost imperceptible.

However, how will the suspension be changed in the new version of Vesta?

Now Vesta's suspension is designed in such a way as to balance its driving characteristics as much as possible. This greatly affects the smooth running of the machine and its handling.

Of course, everyone knows that an increase in the disc diameter is not always accompanied by an increase in the wheel. Sometimes low-profile rubber is worn on a large disc diameter. In this case, only the appearance of the car changes, and, in part, the handling. However, there is a significant disadvantage - road irregularities. Any pit or bump leads to damage.

Consider the opposite situation - with an increase in the size of the wheel rim, the wheel itself also increases. In this case, the car will accelerate and brake more slowly, but the maximum speed may increase slightly.

A large disc diameter is not always a big weight. Here you need to look at the whole wheel as a whole. However, the weight of a 17-inch wheel on the new West will be marginally more than a 16-inch one. We hardly notice this on the car's suspension. Basically, you will be able to feel the changes on a bad road.

The wheel is fastened to the car hub using four bolts through the holes on the disc. It has four holes centered on a diameter of 100 mm.


The simplest and cheapest option is stamped steel wheels on Lada Vesta. They are manufactured by die stamping. External differences in parts depend on the characteristics of the stamp; in accordance with its shape, the product takes on its final appearance. In addition to the base metal aluminum, the alloy contains magnesium, strontium and titanium additives.
