The power steering pump is considered a high-tech unit that pumps fluid under a certain pressure into the steering mechanism and circulates the fluid in the steering system. Today we will discuss the power steering pump in more detail. Chevrolet Aveo.

How is the power steering installed correctly?

Due to the lack of a power steering on a Chevrolet Aveo car, many motorists decide to install the power steering on their own car. Naturally, it will also be necessary to adjust the gearbox speed sensor, otherwise, at the start of the movement at low speeds, the driver will not notice any changes. That is wheel it will be a little harder to spin.

At the moment of a set of high speeds, the steering wheel will move to the owner of the vehicle with a low level of resistance.

The most difficult procedure is considered to be the replacement of the gearbox. To carry out this procedure, you will need to cut a hole in the front flap and slightly modify the bipod. To install the gearbox, it will be necessary to install the bracket to which the power steering pump is screwed onto the head of the cylinder block. After that, you need to change the pulley on the crankshaft, and the drive for the pump using a belt drive. Next, you will need to think over the location expansion tank and also combine all hoses and fill in oil.

Changing Oil in Power Steering

How no problem replace oil in Power steering... All videos on the page.

Place the waste container in a free area and route the disconnected hose into it. If the container is installed below the liquid level, then part of it will drain from the system on its own.

To speed up the process of pumping out the remaining liquid, hang out the front of the car (it makes it easier to turn the steering wheel when the engine is not running) and turn the steering wheel in different directions.

As an option for completely pumping out the liquid, you can connect a pump or compressor to the reservoir and purge the system, squeezing out the remaining oil.

Disconnect the second hose from the tank and remove the tank.

Thoroughly wash the tank, you can use gasoline for this purpose.

There is a non-removable filter in the tank, the contamination of which also negatively affects the operation hydraulic system steering gear. Therefore, if the filter cannot be cleaned, replace the tank with a new one.

It's time to use the assistant (if you are smart, then the assistant is not needed). Insert a funnel into the hose that goes straight to the power steering pump (disconnected last), fill in fluid and turn the steering wheel from side to side. Repeat this procedure until a clean liquid.

Connect hoses to the tank and install it.

Top up hydraulic oil to level.

Now you need to pump the system and get rid of the air, for this we turn the steering wheel and add oil if the level drops.

Hydraulic fluid performs one of the most important control functions vehicle... However, like any other oil, it requires timely replacement. How to change the oil in the power steering on a Chevrolet Aveo on your own, we will consider in detail the relevant article.

Oil change process

Power steering is the main unit in the control system of any vehicle. In order for the power steering to be in good working order, it is necessary to monitor the condition of its parts, mechanisms, and also to change the working mixture in the system in a timely manner.

Power steering fluid is an oil that transfers resistance in the structure from the pump to the hydraulic cylinder. In addition, the oily solution lubricates all parts, protecting them from excessive wear and friction. The circulation of oil in the power steering occurs through the connecting nodes and hoses, including the power steering plastic expansion tank.

On Chevrolet Aveo and many other vehicles, the power steering oil is the main consumable, the state of which determines the entire operation of the node. However, the operating instructions do not indicate the exact timing of the oil change.

Some motorists mistakenly believe that the hydraulic mixture poured into the system at the factory does not require replacement throughout the entire period of operation of the Chevrolet Aveo. In turn, experts recommend changing the solution after 150 thousand kilometers. In some cases, an oily solution requires emergency replacement.

Signs of changing the power steering oil in a Chevrolet Aveo car:

  • discoloration, sediment appearance;
  • the appearance of a specific smell (burning);
  • force is required to turn the steering wheel;
  • the appearance of noise, vibration, shocks when working with the steering wheel of a car

The appearance of such signs indicates a malfunction of the power steering. In order to troubleshoot the problem, the first thing to do is to replace the solution.

Initially, at factories, cars are filled with Dextron II or Dextron III liquid. Accordingly, when replacing, it is necessary to select the same class or its analogue.

Prevention of power steering serviceability:

  • control of the oil level in the expansion tank (up to the MAX mark)
  • checking the color and smell of the mixture;
  • checking the tension of the drive belts;
  • checking the power steering distribution system for leaks.

Timely preventive measures will protect the vehicle from excessive wear and tear and save the driver's budget.

The oil change process consists of several stages:

  1. Pumping out the old mixture;
  2. Washing the filter;
  3. Filling with new oil.

Also, there is a complete or partial replacement oil in the power steering system.

First step

In order to replace the power steering fluid on his own, the driver will need the following tools:

  • Phillips screwdriver;
  • standard set of socket wrenches;
  • jack;
  • medical syringe for 20 ml;
  • rubber tube;
  • empty container for draining liquid, with a capacity of 2 liters;
  • watering can;
  • new mixture.

IMPORTANT: Work is only carried out with the engine stopped.

Second phase

Initially, it is necessary to raise in front of the car with a jack; in this position, no pressure will be exerted on the power steering system.

Instructions for draining old fluid:

  • it is necessary to unscrew the cap of the expansion tank;
  • remove the filter and clean it with plain water or a cleaning agent;
  • pump out liquid with a syringe and tube;
  • disconnect the hoses and pour the solution into the container;
  • turn the wheels several times to the stop so as to drain the liquid remaining in the system.

After the power steering is cleaned, you can start pouring new fluid.

Third stage

When buying a hydraulic fluid, you must follow the rules:

  1. The red color of the solution is intended for cars with automatic transmission gear;
  2. Green for mechanics;
  3. The yellow liquid is neutral and is most often used in Chevrolet Aveo cars.

It is necessary to pour liquid into the expansion tank up to the maximum mark. After that, you need to turn the steering wheel several times until it stops. So the solution is distributed along the entire perimeter of the power steering. You may need to top up the fluid after this.

If you begin to notice problems (a hum or noise appeared when turning the steering wheel, etc.) in the operation of the power steering (GUR) - you should think about changing the oil in the power steering... This usually means that the hydraulic oil is dirty and needs to be replaced.

In the Chevrolet Aveo, oil change in the power steering is not regulated, i.e. the driver only has to monitor the level and top up the missing amount. However, experienced aveovody recommend replacing the power steering fluid at least every 100 thousand km.

Help:

  • Volume working fluid the power steering is 1.1 liters.
  • The manufacturer recommends using DEXRON-III hydraulic oil in power steering.

Before undertaking the replacement of the power steering fluid, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the diagram of the steering mechanisms of the Chevrolet Aveo T-250.

    Oil level in the power steering reservoir

And also the manual can be used to bleed the vehicle's steering system.

He unscrewed the cap of the expansion tank and pumped all the oil out of it into an empty bottle with a syringe.

Pre-purchased a 20 ml syringe in the First Aid Kit for 1.8 UAH. The only thing was to cut off the needle and the free edge of the case from the needle.

Now they can choose a liquid (in our case, this is the power steering oil). I began to select liquid from the expansion barrel. Less than half of the canister has been collected. This is the volume of liquid in the expansion tank.

Why did I do this, you ask? To reduce the oil level in the expansion tank of the power steering, where the return pipe of the line enters. We need to unfasten the return line branch pipe. But if we shoot right away, oil will start pouring out of the tank - through the inlet of the return line. The tank is full. Therefore, the first thing we do is empty the tank.

Have you pumped out all the oil? Now you can safely disconnect the return line pipe, through it the liquid returns to expansion tank... We twist the lid on the tank.

Next, remove the return line pipe from the tank itself. Here we need pliers, we will need to pull off the antennae on the clamp of the pipe itself, removed? Now it will need to be moved a couple of centimeters along the pipe.

Now pull the tube slightly - and voila, you disconnected it from the expansion tank

We remove the expansion tank to the side. And the end of the back pipe must be inserted into an empty canister or bottle, into which we will drain the remaining oil in the power steering system. The canister can be easily installed on the hoses, just below the nipple location. She became very tight - so I didn't have to hold her

I advise from above to seal the space near the tube in the very neck of the bottle or canister (depending on what you use) with a rag. In order to avoid splashing oil - at that moment when it flows out of the pipe, it just spits at that moment.

Now we start the engine and start turning the steering wheel from one side (all the way) to the other side, also all the way. We carry out this procedure until the oil comes out of the system. The moment you turn the steering wheel, it can kind of fall through, spin tightly - do not worry this is normal (about 15-20 seconds are allocated for this procedure, it is no longer possible to turn the power steering pump without oil, as it can simply burn out)

I poured all the pumped out oil into One canister - the photo shows the entire volume of the liquid.

The oil had a pleasant pink color, not black or dark - as many write.

Now, to change the oil in the power steering, we need to insert the hose from the return line into place and secure with a clamp. It is also necessary to screw the reservoir. Unscrew the lid and fill in oil to the maximum.

We start the engine and very quickly run to the expansion tank, the oil level in it should not fall below the filterwhich is located at the very bottom of the expansion tank of the system, the oil has gone into the system - feel free to top up again to the maximum.

Next, we go to the driver's seat and start turning the steering wheel from side to side (All the way) - in order to pump the system completely (in the process, look at the expansion tank, the approximate volume of fluid that fits into our power steering system is about 0.95 liters, keep this in mind)

And now we start the engine, turn the steering wheel again to the stop. We repeat this process 8-10 times, then we check the expansion tank - the bubbles with foam should already be gone. We turn off the car and go for a smoke break, it should stand for about 10-15 minutes. Now again you need to add oil to the maximum mark that is on the wall of the expansion tank and tighten the cap tightly. Now we can congratulate you! Now you know how to change the oil in the power steering.

P.S When complete replacement The oil in the power steering is produced, I recommend getting behind the wheel and driving a couple of blocks in a square - in order to completely pump the system - since air could remain in it.
