Changing the oil in the Renault Duster razdatka

Axle oil change

What and how much oil to fill in the bridge and the Duster 4x4 razdatka

According to the manufacturer, the oil in the transfer case and axle cannot be changed and is filled for the entire service life of the vehicle.

But underfilling the oil in the distributor and the bridge is quite a frequent occurrence on Renault Duster.
In this case, only 2 cm was missing to the level, it is not scary, but to calm it down I had to change it.

Since it is not clear what kind of oil was filled, I had to play it safe and buy a new gear oil Total Syn Fe 75W-90, Renault recommended oil, solidifies at temperatures below 50 degrees.

To change the oil in the transfer case and the Renault Duster bridge, there will be enough 1 liter.
In this report, it took 1 liter and 50-100 grams, this is when filling to the maximum, to the level of the drain holes and taking into account the complete draining and flushing of the rear gearbox and distributor.

  • We start with the rear gearbox
  • You do not have to lift the car, if you lie on the ground, then there is enough space.
  • Unscrew the drain plug (bottom) with a hexagon
  • Drain the oil, the oil will be black enough, this is normal.
  • We twist the plug back, do not forget about the gasket

The oil will not drain, so you can use the vacuum hose to drain the oil completely.

The hose is exactly vacuum, because the walls are not compressed. We insert one end of the hose into the filler hole of the gearbox, resting the hose against the bottom, the other end of the hose to the vacuum pump (or create a vacuum with our lungs), the hose is taken long so that oil does not get into the pump or swallow it.

You can also flush the gearbox and drain completely the flushing fluid in this way. The oil drains out of the distributor well, you do not need to rinse it.

It is convenient to pour oil into the rear gearbox with the help of such a device.

We push the hose and pour new oil into the filler hole (top), the oil must be poured to the very edge of the hole.

We twist the upper plug on the gearbox and wipe the traces of oil with a rag after replacing

Moving on to the transfer case

We remove the right front wheel(passenger side), you can simply turn it out if it is convenient.

The transfer box is located on the passenger side, right behind the wheel. See the photo below.

We find the filler hole, it is also the control one.

Transfer case oil level is normal.

To access the drain plug, you will have to partially remove the protection by unscrewing the six mounting bolts so that the protection hangs only on the front ones. The drain plug of the transfer case is indicated by an arrow.

The oil drains out of the distributor well, you do not need to rinse it.

We drain the oil, tighten the drain plug. Putting the protection together in the reverse order.

Oil was poured everywhere exactly along the edge of the filler hole (it even poured out a little).

The control and filler hole of the box is located in the same way as the dispensing port, but on the left side.

In the box, the oil did not change, only the level was checked - almost flush with the edge.

When may a transmission oil change be required?

If it is necessary to carry out certain work on the machine, for example, to replace the drive oil seal, then the oil will need to be drained from the box. Also, with long-term operation of the car in difficult conditions or with high mileage, it will also be necessary to replace the transmission fluid.

Although the regulations say that the oil is infinite, but this is how it looks on a run of 45,000 km

The car can be equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission and 5- or 6-speed manual. Consider the process of changing the oil on the version with manual transmission.

What kind of oil to fill?

For your information!... The volume is 0.55 and 0.38 liters, respectively.

Level check

If, during operation, oil leaks appear on the gearbox on the car, then it is imperative to check its level. There is a hole in the front of the box crankcase, which is designed to check the oil level in the box itself. It is closed with a threaded plug. To check the oil level, you need to drive the car into a hole or raise it, remove the engine protection and unscrew the plug on the gearbox housing. The oil level should be near the bottom of the hole. If it is less than it should be topped up. After completing this procedure, if necessary, replace the O-ring on the plug and tighten it.

Is not the first mass-produced crossover, but its predecessor, the compact SUV Renault Koleos, went unnoticed. Largely - due to the oversaturation of the European market with cars off-road... To rectify the situation, the French decided to start producing a cheaper, but no less reliable car... And they succeeded - Renault Duster, assembled at the Romanian plant, turned out to be more in demand. Its production started in 2010, and a year later the production of the model was launched at the Moscow enterprise Avtoframos. The popularity of the crossover of domestic assembly is largely due not only to the relatively low cost, but also to the ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance of the car with your own hands. In particular, an operation like the reducer rear axle Renault Duster does not require a specialized instrument and high professionalism of the performers.

Replacement frequency

According to the data given in the manual, the transmission fluid in the rear axle gearbox and transfer case does not need to be replaced throughout the entire life of the vehicle. However, even a layman understands that this is nothing more than a marketing ploy. Indeed, even in European countries, where the quality of highways is incomparable with our roads, this operation is performed quite often for a variety of reasons. In domestic conditions, it is recommended to change the oil in the gearbox and Renault Duster distributor every 75 thousand kilometers, especially with an aggressive driving style and harsh vehicle operating conditions.

Which oil to choose

At the factory, the manufacturer pours mineral 80W90 into the transfer case and rear gearbox Renault Duster, corresponding to the API GL-5 specification (pour point - minus 27 degrees). Since in a significant part of the territory of our country such temperature range clearly not enough, you should replace it with the Syn Fe 75W90 semi-synthetic transmission fluid from the same manufacturer, which can work normally at temperatures down to minus 50 degrees. Filling volume the rear gearbox, according to the manual - 0.55 liters, 0.4 liters are poured into the transfer case. Thus, no matter what permissible oil will be poured into the transfer case and Renault Duster gearbox, it is enough to purchase a liter can of fluid (if you do not change the lubricant in the gearbox in parallel).

Checking the oil level

Unfortunately, underfilling transmission fluid possible even in the factory. This situation has recently become more common, so regular checking of the oil level in the rear gearbox and transfer case should become a habit for every owner of this crossover. It is not difficult to determine how much oil is in the gearbox and Renault Duster distributor, this operation will take you no more than 10 - 15 minutes, if you provide convenient access at the bottom of the car. It is enough to unscrew the filler hole of each of the units and make sure that the liquid reaches its lower edge. If not, top up until it starts to flow.

Regulations for changing the oil in the razdatka and the Renault Duster gearbox

If, during the next check of the lubricant level, you find that its color is too dark, this may become the basis for replacing the transmission fluid, regardless of how many kilometers you have driven since the last replacement. The sequence of actions for a Renault Duster car:

The procedure for Renault Duster is somewhat different:

Since this operation is rarely performed in the absence of transmission fluid leaks, it is likely that you will have to perform it at intervals of two to three years.

> Checking the level and adding oil to the rear gearbox Renault Duster

Renault Duster Checking the level and adding oil to the rear gearbox

The 4 × 4 transmission oil poured into the rear gearbox of the car is designed for the entire life of the car and in the regulations Maintenance there are no operations to check the level and change the oil.
However, during long-term operation of the car in difficult conditions, the manufacturer recommends changing the oil in the rear gearbox after 30 thousand kilometers.
km of run.
In this case, we recommend checking the oil level in the rear gearbox at every service and always - if an oil leak from the gearbox is detected.
We carry out the work on a viewing ditch or overpass.
Check the oil level through the control (filler) hole on the cold rear gearbox.
Inspection and drain holes are located on the rear wall of the gearbox housing.

Rear gearbox hole locations: inspection plug at top and drain plug at bottom.
We clean the rear gearbox housing around the inspection hole.

Turn the hexagon "10" counterclockwise ...

... and take out the control hole plug.

The plug is sealed in the gearbox housing with a metal washer.
If the washer is damaged or strongly compressed, replace it with a new one.
The oil level in the rear gearbox must be at the bottom edge of the hole, which can be checked with a finger.
If the oil level is significantly lower than required, use a filling syringe transmission oil add oil to the lower edge of the hole (oil will start to flow out of the hole).
When the excess oil flows out, remove the oil drips with a rag and wrap the cork.
If it is necessary to drain the oil from the rear gearbox, clean the gearbox housing around the drain hole.
We put a container with a volume of about 1.0 l under the drain hole.

Turn off the drain plug with a "10" hexagon and drain the oil into the substituted container.
A metal washer is installed under the plug to seal.
At the end of draining, wrap the drain plug, pour oil into the rear gearbox through the control hole and wrap the plug.

Usually, the rear gearbox does not cause problems for owners of all-wheel drive versions of the Renault Duster car.

A video about changing the oil in the Renault Duster gearbox is below.

It is not necessary to lift the car to change the oil in the rear gearbox. You can just lie on the floor or drive into the viewing hole.

The plug on the gearbox is unscrewed with a hexagon.

The cork is marked with an arrow. Prepare a container for draining immediately

Place a container (one or more liters) under the used oil. When the oil is completely drained, you will notice that it will be black in color. This is in the order of things, since a lot of production products have accumulated in it.

After draining, it is necessary to replace the O-ring on the drain plug in order to avoid oil leakage during further operation.

It should be noted that not all of the oil will drain from the gearbox during the process. Therefore, a vacuum hose must be used to drain it completely. You should rest it with one end against the bottom of the gearbox, and connect the other end to a vacuum pump (you can also create a vacuum with the lungs). The hose must be of sufficient length to prevent oil from entering the pump itself if used. It will also help to avoid getting oil into the mouth when the vacuum is created by the lungs.

You can use a hose like this

Flushing

After draining the oil, rinse the gearbox special liquid, which is sold in the store and is designed specifically for this purpose. This liquid is drained in the same way as oil.

Fill

Using a funnel to top up oil

This is done with a hose. A funnel is connected to one end of it, and the other is inserted into the drain hole. The oil must be filled up to the edge of the drain hole. Next, the cork is screwed into place, and traces of smudges are wiped off.

Alternative way

A syringe for washing the ears will work too.

An alternative method involves the use of a powerful syringe. These are sold in the pharmacy, their ears are washed.

And you have to tinker with the distributor

After this procedure, you can begin to change the oil in the transfer case.

  1. The front wheel (right) is removed. It is also possible not to remove it, but simply turn it all the way to the left.

The wheel was removed, the control points are visible in the figure

  2. Remove partial protection. You will need to unscrew the 6 bolts that hold it in place.

    Oil drain "front"

  3. After draining, tighten the plug by changing the seal on it.
  4. Reinstall the protection.
  5. Fill in new oil through the filler hole. It is necessary to fill in oil up to the level of the hole, when it begins to pour out of it by itself. For this, you can use the same device with which oil was poured into the rear gearbox.
  6. Tighten the filler hole by changing the seal on the plug.

The manufacturer claims that the oil that is poured into the transfer case and rear gearbox during production cannot be changed throughout the entire service life of the Renault Duster car.

According to experts, this rule applies more to European countries where the quality of roads is good. In domestic operating conditions, the oil in these units has to be changed. There is also an underfilling of oil in the gearbox at the factory. Typically, the underfill level is small and not critical.

Oil selection

Replacement will require about one liter of oil. It is necessary to pour oil into the gearbox up to the level of the drain plug. Also, when carrying out work after draining the old oil, it is recommended to flush the gearbox.

conclusions

As you can see from the above, you can easily change the oil in the transfer case and rear gearbox on your own. The main thing is to adhere to these recommendations.
