The timing belt is replaced every 60,000 km. mileage, in addition, the belt must be checked periodically (every 15,000 km) and if cracks, delaminations, deformations, sweetness, traces of oil are found on it, then the belt is replaced. If traces of oil are found on the belt, the cause of oiling must be immediately eliminated. (most likely this is due to the crankshaft and camshaft oil seals).
A broken timing belt, worn or sheared teeth can lead to engine damage and costly repairs.

Gas distribution mechanism: 1 – a gear pulley of a cranked shaft; 2 - timing belt; 3 - tensioner roller; 4 – a gear pulley of a camshaft of a drive of final valves; 5 - a gear pulley of a camshaft of a drive of inlet valves; 6 - support roller; 7 – a gear pulley of the pump of a cooling liquid

How to check the timing belt

To check the timing belt, we turn off the top cover of the belt, which is held on by 6 bolts, and remove it

1 - two bolts ("on 16"), 2 - three bolts ("on 13"), 3 - one bolt ("for 8")

After removing the cover, the belt will become visible. We take a key with a "18" head and begin to turn the crankshaft pulley (for its bolt) and gradually inspect the belt along its entire length section by section for defects. .

For accurate tension checks timing belt services use a special device. To approximately determine the tension of the belt yourself, you need to take the belt with two fingers and try to twist it around its axis (see figure). If it is possible to twist the belt by more than 70 °, then it must be tightened.

To tighten the timing belt, you need to unscrew the two screws and remove the bottom cover.

On the timing belt tensioner, loosen the nut with a regular wrench. We take a special key for tightening the belt (you can buy such a key for VAZs in spare parts - it fits) and rotate it counterclockwise, which tightens the belt. Tighten the roller and tighten its loosened nut.

Now we check the belt tension as described above, after turning the crankshaft pulley a few turns, grabbing its bolt.

Remove the engine guard, accessory drive belt, both timing belt covers, crankshaft pulley (blocking the flywheel with a screwdriver to turn it off).

the red arrow marks where you need to insert a screwdriver to block the flywheel for turning and removing the pulley

Unscrew the plug from hole 2 for the TDC finger (it is located on the block near the first cylinder)

Now set the 1st piston to the TDC position. Screw in the crankshaft pulley bolt with a bushing (or with several washers).

Turn the crankshaft clockwise until the camshaft pulley stops at its triangular mark 1, in the middle of the mark 2 located on the cylinder head cover.

Now insert the TDC setting pin into the hole. Scroll, if necessary, the crankshaft clockwise and insert the TDC pin until the crankshaft is completely blocked.

Note. The special locating pin can be replaced with an ordinary M10 bolt, the thread length of which must be at least 75 mm. If the thread is longer, then shorten it by screwing nuts and washers onto the bolt.

After screwing in the adjusting pin, the crankshaft cannot be turned clockwise.

Loosen the tension roller nut 7
Remove the timing belt and tension pulley.

Attention. After the belt is removed, the shafts must not be turned!

Installation

Install the tension roller. In this case, the holes must be outside.

We install a new timing belt, while making sure that the arrow of the belt direction, which is drawn on it, is oriented clockwise (b).

Aligning the labels (A)

the timing belt is installed in its place in the following order:
crankshaft pulley, idler pulley, camshaft pulley, coolant pump pulley.

Tension the timing belt as described at the beginning of the page.
After that turn out an adjusting finger. Turn the crankshaft two turns, align the marks on the pulley and cylinder head cover, and screw the adjusting pin back into the hole to check the TDC position of the first piston. Reinstall the belt if necessary.

Turn out an adjusting finger and establish all removed details upside-down.

The procedure for checking and tensioning the timing belt using this tool is described below.

Press the tension roller against the timing belt.

Tighten the idler nut.

Remove the TDC pin.

Install the timing belt pretensioner on the camshaft pulley 10

11 force 10 Nm

Remove fixture

Install tool Mot. 1135–01 12 . Tension the timing belt by turning the tension roller counterclockwise. Adjust the timing belt tension using the gauge within 165 ± 10 Hz.

Tighten the tension roller nut with a torque of 50 Nm.

Rotate the crankshaft two turns.

Install the TDC pin.

Remove the TDC pin.

Reinstall the timing belt pretensioner on the camshaft pulley 10

Apply pretension at a point 11 force 10 Nm

Remove fixture

Check the timing belt tension with a strain gauge. It must be within 165 ± 10 Hz.

If the belt tension is out of specification, adjust and tension again. If the tension is adjusted correctly, install all previously removed elements and parts.

timing belt this is a very important part of the engine that needs to be monitored and changed in time to avoid serious consequences and costly repairs. In this article, we will consider replacing the timing belt on engines 1.4 and 1.6 16 valves and 8 valves.

In order to replace the timing belt, it is not necessary to go to a specialized service and pay money. You can do this procedure with your own hands in the garage or in the yard of your house. All you need is a tool kit and a jack, I think any normal motorist has these things in the trunk.

As mentioned above, the timing belt requires increased attention, namely timely replacement, and this should not be neglected. On the official site Renault It is recommended to change the timing belt every 60 thousand kilometers. But there are times when during the diagnostics it turns out that the part is already pretty worn out. In this case, the belt must be replaced as soon as possible. Until it broke.

In order to start replacing the timing belt, it is necessary to remove the front right wheel (in the direction of the car), the protective cover and. Next, unscrew the crankshaft pulley with a head of 18.
After that, we need to support the motor from below, substituting a support under the drain hole in the pan. The next thing is to unscrew the upper right engine mount, the bolts are 16.
Next, you need to remove the protection, first remove the lower plastic one, and then the upper one. Now you need to screw the crankshaft pulley bolt back so that you can turn the crankshaft clockwise, placing washers or nuts under it in advance. We set the camshaft to the mark.

When everything is set, loosen the tension roller with a key of 16 and remove the belt. Now you are ready to install the new belt. We install a new tension roller in place, take the belt and see two marks on it at the top and bottom, determine where the top and where the bottom mark will help the arrows and inscriptions, they are near the top mark, we set this mark on the camshaft, and the bottom mark, respectively, on the crankshaft pulley .

Installation should start from the crankshaft by aligning the marks on the pulley and belt.
After that, we put the belt on the pump and on the camshaft, then on the tension roller. The marks on the camshaft must match, if this did not happen for some reason, align the marks. After the marks matched, you can pull the roller. Upon completion of work, I recommend turning the crankshaft one or two turns clockwise to make sure that the pistons do not collide with the valves.

Video instruction:

In order to change timing belt on 16 valve engines you will need a device for fixing the camshafts, once you have done it, you will use it more than once in the future, given that it is not so difficult to do. This plate is made of 5 mm metal.

Plate drawing

Having made such a device, we proceed to disassemble the gas distribution mechanism, raise the car, unscrew the front right wheel and remove the plastic protection. Then we remove the attachment belt and unscrew the upper engine mount, having previously supported it from below. The next thing to do is remove the plugs from the camshafts, for this you need to remove the air receiver.

After that, you need to scroll the crankshaft to set the camshafts so that the slots stand horizontally relative to each other.
Now we need to fix the crankshaft, this is done using a special hole in the cylinder block.
We unscrew the bolt that is shown in the figure above, and in its place we screw in a bolt with an M10 thread, its length should be exactly 75mm, this can be achieved by screwing several nuts onto it, or cutting it to the desired length.

This is what it looks like from the inside.

After the bolt is tightened, turn the crankshaft clockwise until it stops and fix the camshafts.
Then we remove the protection, first the lower then the upper. Next, loosen the tension roller and remove the belt from all pulleys. We change the tension roller and put the new belt in place, it is necessary to start from above, on the camshafts and then on the crankshaft. The rest of the assembly is done in the reverse order of disassembly.

Belt replacement Timing Renault Logan

The timing belt (timing) is a fundamental element of any car. Its damage or rupture will disable the vehicle and make movement impossible. Belt replacement Timing Renault Logan, according to the manufacturer's regulations, is carried out every 60 thousand kilometers or after 4 years of operation. Repairs are easy to do at home if you know the catalog numbers of new parts and how to install them.

Checking and inspecting the condition of the timing belt on Renault Logan is carried out at intervals of 15 thousand km. If cracks, chips, cuts and other mechanical flaws are found, the part is replaced.

How to choose the right one and what are

Renault Logan in different years of release of the first generation (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), in addition, a redesigned line (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 onwards) were equipped with different types of engines. These were k7j with a volume of 1.4 liters and k7m - 1.6 liters (8CL), in addition k4m (16V) and d4f with a volume of 1.2 liters. The 2nd generation continued to be equipped with designated engines, in 2016 the range of engines offered was expanded by two more h4m (1.6 l) and k9k (1.5 l) units, offering them in dci versions. In order for the efficiency of the timing mechanism to remain at the appropriate level, it is worth installing only spare parts recommended by the manufacturer. Articles of belts that should be installed on Renault Logan (2004-2017):

  • Car with internal combustion engine for eight valves (belt and tension roller): K7M (K7J) 710 - 7701477024; K7M (K7J) 800 - 130C17480R. These repair kits have uniform belts and different rollers.
  • 16KL (belt, tension roller and guide): K4M 690 or 697 - 130С17529R.

Among the companies that offer belt spare parts, the following are more needed and have the highest level of properties:

  • Unique belt and rollers from Renault;
  • Koyo;
  • gates.

Already today, there are analogues, the cost of which will be significantly lower than unique parts. Choosing a belt is simple without the help of others, taking into account the type of motor. There is no need to try to save on prices, because they are buying a fake, which installation) (it will become a prerequisite for a quick failure of the belt and will require repair in another way to replace the mechanism. Not every driver will be able to distinguish a real part from a fake. Usually, an official representative recommends changing it at a car service belt every 60 thousand km, and offers to receive the original from the catalog, with the correct dimensions and parameters.

Attention! Neglecting the frequency of timing belt diagnostics, the period of which is determined by the manufacturer's manual, is unacceptable. The regulations provide for inspecting the condition of the part every 15 thousand kilometers, changing the device - after 60 thousand kilometers.

Replacing the timing belt Renault Logan. Elementarily simple.

Timing belt replacement for Renault logan 1.4 (trivial) from KulibacheyReplacing the belt Timing for Logan 1.4-1.6 8 V.-Timing belt .

Such instructions apply to both the first and the 2nd phase of Logan, regardless of the year of manufacture and type of unit.

It is imperative to replace the belt in pairs with rollers. Some incorrectly believe that with all this it is worth changing the pump, but it must be updated according to the regulations every 120 km.

According to the reviews of the owners, when the car has passed the designated 60 thousand km, the belt is rarely in disrepair. Often, the device can pass more than just a kilometer without complaints, but this is fraught with consequences: an unexpected break in the belt will become a prerequisite for the valves to begin to bend.

When the belt is in excellent condition, and the plastic rollers have to be disassembled, cleaned or new ones installed. Otherwise, due to a weak tension, the part can jump off by 1-2 teeth (typical for 16-valve engines), as it is also called, it will jam.

On most Logans, the distribution mechanism is equipped with a belt, the chain is installed on cars with H4M units in car and hatchback bodies, and in the latter case, the regulations do not indicate how long such a part lasts and when it should be changed.

Features of replacement and adjustment

Renault Logan timing belt replacement is done without the help of others, if you adhere to the annotation and have the necessary tools in your arsenal (repair kit). Today, on the net you will find many photos and videos, the pages of which carefully show how to change the designated element. Do the job in the following order:

  • The front wheel is removed from the right side.
  • The protective cover of the generator belt is dismantled, where for this purpose its upper mount is unscrewed for you (it is enough to deflect it to the lowest corner).
  • The alternator belt is removed, why the self-tensioning roller should be set aside with a 15 key.
  • The belt is bent, using an air gun, it is unscrewed and the crankshaft pulley is removed.
  • Two bolts of the timing guard are unscrewed when using the 8 head.
  • The upper support of the engine is removed, why it is propped up - a support is placed under the oil drain plug.
  • The right motor support is unscrewed (with a head of 15, 5 mounting bolts are unscrewed).

  • Remove the upper timing belt cover.
  • After that, you should set the labels (scroll with the key to 16).
  • Loosen tensioner mounting nuts.
  • The belt is removed and tension roller, with the previously removed crankshaft pulley.
  • After that, you should find the state of the pump: with free running and smudges, the part also changes to the newest one.
  • Before installing a new belt, it is necessary to check the condition of the seals: even a small amount of oil spray is a reason for replacement.
  • The correct procedure for installing a new element involves cleaning the place from dust and dirt.
  • The new belt is installed together with the crankshaft round gear: the gear is inserted into the belt, and the timing marks are combined (after installation, you must try not to knock them down).
  • Is put tension roller.
  • Combined and checked by our client remains labels.
  • Assembly is done in reverse order.

When replacing the timing belt, pay attention to the condition of the sealing rings of the camshaft plugs.

Hello. We will replace the timing belt with Renault Logan with engines 1.4-1.6 (K7J, K7M). Such motors were installed on Logan until 2010.

The timing belt for Renault Logan with engines 1.4-1.6 (K7J, K7M) is changed after 60 thousand kilometers.

Tools:

  • knob
  • extension
  • head for eighteen, sixteen, thirteen, ten, eight
  • engine support
  • fork for timing belt tensioner pulley
  • wheel bolt wrench

Vendor code:

  • original timing belt for Renault Logan, set - 7701477024

Step-by-step instruction

1. Jack up and remove the right wheel.

2. Remove the plastic cover to access the alternator belt. Next, remove the alternator belt. We have shown this operation.

3. Unscrew the crankshaft pulley. Eighteen head bolt. It is best to unscrew the bolt with a pneumatic wrench, then there are no problems with fixing the crankshaft. If there is no pneumatic wrench, then you can lock the flywheel with a powerful flat screwdriver and unscrew the bolt. It is better to do this with an assistant.

After unscrewing the bolt, remove the pulley.

4. Now we need to support the engine from below in order to unscrew the right engine support. We take a powerful support and substitute it under the drain plug. There is a cutout in the crankcase protection and it is unnecessary to remove it.

We substitute the support and lower the jack.

5. We unscrew five bolts of fastening of the right support of the engine.

6. Set aside the hose from the absorber to the intake manifold and the wire.

Hose and wire on latches. Everything is elementary there.

7. After the hose and wire have been removed, remove the engine support.

The bolts can still be under the head for ten, depending on the year.

We remove the casing through the bottom.

9. We unscrew five bolts of fastening of the top metal casing.

Four head bolts for thirteen, one for ten. If the car is manufactured before 2008, then the bolts will be sixteen under the head.

The bolts that are marked below sit on the sealant from the factory due to the fact that oil channels pass there. These bolts will be difficult to loosen. Also, do not forget to lubricate these bolts with sealant when reassembling.

Marked bolts that need to sit on the sealant

10. After unscrewing the bolts, remove the upper casing.

11. Now we need to set the pulleys on the marks. To do this, you need to combine the arrow on the camshaft gear with the letter D (Dacia logo) on the valve cover.

To rotate the engine and align the marks, you can use the bolt that secures the crankshaft pulley. We put a large nut on the bolt and screw it until it stops. Then scroll clockwise until the marks are aligned.

The nut on the bolt is needed so that it rests on the crankshaft gear.

12. Unscrew the nut of the tension roller with a head of sixteen. After unscrewing the nut, remove the timing belt and pulley.

13. Before installing the timing belt and roller on the Renault Logan, we wash and clean everything that closes with casings.

14. We dress the roller and bait the nut.

15. We begin to install the belt from the crankshaft gear. We put the belt on the HF gear by combining the marks on the gear and on the belt.

Marked on the HF gear and belt

We put the belt on the pump, camshaft and on the roller. See that the mark on the camshaft gear is aligned with the mark on the belt.

Label on the RV gear and belt

To determine which mark on the timing belt goes to the KV gear and which to the RV gear, you need to look where the inscriptions on the belt are. Where the arrows for the direction of work and the inscription about the manufacturer are drawn, this means that this is the top of the belt, and the nearest mark goes to the RV gear.

16. After installation, the timing belt has slack, it must be removed by turning the PB gear counterclockwise a little.

17. Now we need to create the correct timing belt tension on Renault Logan. Experts set the belt tension force from experience, but if you are a beginner, then set the roller as in the photo below. This will be the optimal belt tension.

We insert the fork into the roller and take it up to give the timing belt a stretch. As soon as the required belt tension has been created, with the other hand we tighten the nut of the roller fastener.

The photo shows how the roller should stand with normal belt tension.

18. We reassemble and do not forget to put two bolts on the sealant on the upper casing.

It will take a beginner about two hours to complete the job. Ask questions in the comments, I will be happy to help you save a penny on the service.

Video lesson

In the service book of cars of the Logan family, it will be indicated that the timing belt must be changed at 60 thousand. But there is evidence that the frequency of replacing the timing belt with Renault Logan is 4 years. You just have to see what comes first. And according to the regulations, a few more parts are always changed along with the belt, and not all of them relate to the drive mechanism. We will try to list them further.

The original timing belt and consumables in the video below.

Kit "belt + idler" for different 8-valve:

  • For internal combustion engines K7M (K7J) 710 - 7701477024, width 17.3 mm, number of teeth 96;
  • For ICE K7M (K7J) 800 - 130C17480R. The difference between the two sets is small. The belts are the same, the rollers are different.

Set "belt + two rollers (tensioner, guide)" for 16-valve internal combustion engines:

  • K4M 690 or 697 - 130C17529R, 27.4mm, 132t.

All articles were taken from the Renault catalog.

Replacement schedule (factory frequency)

Be aware that the timing of replacing the timing belt with Renault Logan does not depend on the engine model. The manufacturer recommends:

  • Inspect the timing belt and adjust the tension - every 15,000 km;
  • Carry out replacement, even if there are no defects - every 60,000 km or 1 time in 4 years.

The listed information refers to the models of the first and second generation. For Logan sedans of the “3” generation, things may look different.

Replacement terms according to the experience of the owners

Whoever changes the belt says this: there are no scuffs or delaminations after 60 thousand.

Old and new timing belt

The belt itself is designed for 90-120 thousand. But videos are a different matter. They can only be removed and cleaned, but it is better to replace them. Otherwise:

  • Loosening the tension will cause the belt to jump 1 or 2 teeth. For 16 valves, this is not uncommon;
  • Jamming the roller also does not entail anything good.

The water pump is usually changed after two hundred thousand km. But the regulation provides for another figure - 120 thousand. Make your own choice.

Adjustment

The tension is adjusted in different ways. On the K4M motor, unscrew the screw with a “13” key. Then a hexagon is installed in the slot on the roller (see Fig.). One edge is 6 mm.

Timing belt tensioner

By turning the hexagon, the rectangular marks are matched. Then the screw is tightened again.

As for the 8-valve engines, there is no “automatic tensioner” here. Everything is manually adjusted. First loosen the mount using the “16” key.

Tension roller, 8-valve Renault

With a special key shown in the photo, the roller is turned to the right or left and the desired tension is obtained. The fixing screw is then tightened.

The special tool in question is a key for 8-valve VAZ engines. Good luck choosing!
